SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3 REVIEW

God, Shadow is so fucking cool.

It's honestly refreshing seeing the increase in quality with the Sonic movies. The first one I wasn't as big on as everyone else seemed to be. I thought it was a fine, generic kid's movie about a cartoony character getting sucked into the real world and trying and failing to blend in while being a nuisance to a human character, which has unfortunately become its own genre. Sonic 2, on the other hand, is exactly what I wanted the first Sonic movie to be, with much better action, writing, and story than the first one. It was nice seeing a video game movie that was so unafraid of being one and unafraid of including cheeky references to its source material and having the climax center around the Death Egg Robot and the Chaos Emeralds.

And now we come to Sonic 3, easily the best live-action Sonic movie we've gotten so far (I haven't seen the anime movie with Metal Sonic in it, for all I know, it's better than Citizen Kane). I'm not a big fan of Sonic in these movies, I just think he's too annoying, I did think his arc of not being too irrational and going at his missions alone was fine enough. What I liked about the character writing in this movie is just how Team Sonic plays off of each other. All 3 of them get plenty of great moments to just riff off of each other, and Tails and Knuckles are just as fun to watch as Sonic is. I did also feel something when Sonic and Knuckles started arguing at the end while Tails desperately tried to defuse the situation, and it ending with Knuckles saying that even though Sonic broke his trust, he still respects him as a friend is a nice way to end the scene.

But who cares about Sonic, Shadow is the guy on the cover, that's who this movie is about! I love everything to do with Shadow in this movie, he's just the coolest. From him fighting his way out of G.U.N. headquarters to his first fight with Sonic where he rides through Tokyo on a motorcycle with a gun to him going Super at the end is just incredible to watch. Having played Sonic Adventure 2 and generally knowing his entire story through cultural osmosis, I wasn't too shocked by any of the flashback scenes with him and Maria, but I did like how it mirrors Sonic's story of being an alien who was met with hostility, save for one human who genuinely cares about him. I wish that it was more subtly told and that they didn't beat you over the head with the message, but whatever, this movie is made for children. Funnily enough, there were only 4 people in the theatre with me watching it, all of them were adults. That's actually hilarious.

The only other thing worth noting about the movie is Jim Carrey as both Robotniks, and just like the last 2 movies, he does a great job. Most of the funniest jokes in the movie came from how he delivered his lines and how the movie is just so unsubtle with the fact that Stone and Eggman are gay for each other. Eggman's final line in the movie lays that point on thick as well. As a wise hedgehog once said, "My fucking god, these bitches gay! Good for them."

Overall, Sonic 3 is one of the best video game movies out there. It's no Mario Movie or Detective Pikachu, but it's still stellar nonetheless. If you're a Sonic fan or even interested in the Sonic series, this is well worth your time.

A progression of my fandoms from early childhood to now (I just think it’s funny how I slowly went from typical girly-girl interests to being a theatre kid/geek 😂):

Peppa Pig - Since I was a toddler, basically, this show taught me to speak

Disney Princesses (specifically Belle) - From the time I gained sentience to around the time I turned 12, Disney princesses were my favourite thing, but whilst I still have a fondness for them now, they’re not my favourite thing anymore

Jessie/Liv and Maddie/KC Undercover - From the ages of I’d say 10 to 12, they were my favourite Disney channel sitcoms, they made me laugh so hard and even though I watch them much now, I still really enjoy them if I’m feeling nostalgic

Lego Ninjago - Found it on Netflix and got hooked, can’t remember how old I was, maybe 7-8? My time as a fan of this didn’t last that long, but it did teach me how to spell the word ‘nephew’ (I watched everything with subtitles to help with my spelling)

Descendants - I distinctly remember being a mega fan as soon as the first film came out, I was 8 and I’ve seen every single piece of Descendants media and read one of the books, the fourth movie disappointed me when I did a nostalgia watch

Ever After High - Discovered this show on Netflix shortly after Descendants, remember loving it and being devastated when it ended but can’t remember exactly how old I was

Musical theatre - I don’t remember exactly how old I was, but the day I watched a Watch Mojo countdown of the best musical villain songs in the back of the car whilst on holiday and googled Heathers the musical’s plot, I knew in my heart that I’d never go back… I was definitely far too young though

Team Starkid/Hatchetfield - Long story short, I discovered them in lockdown when I was 13 whilst looking for ‘slime tutorials’ of other musicals, and I’ve been hooked ever since

Marvel/MCU - I watched Wandavision during lockdown when I was 13 so I could talk about a popular show, actually enjoyed it then fell down a rabbit hole of researching and watching everything from the MCU, and I still love it

Chucky - I found the Kill Count YouTube channel in 2021 - I was 14 - and thought the Chucky movies were so fun, and so I wrote some of my first ever fanfic about it (I’m sure some of my friends here remember 😅)

Doctor Who - Blame David Tennant, I developed a major crush on him around the end of 2022, and I decided to watch the 2023 Doctor Who specials with him and Catherine Tate, then my mother and I watched every episode starting from Eccleston up to Gatwa, now we’re on Pertwee in the Classic Era having skipped half of Hartnell and pretty much all of Troughton 😅

Northanger Abbey Readthrough Ch 24

My emotions while reading this chapter: 😬🫣😳😖🙄

Catherine being like, "I know you can fake a funeral and a body! No one can fool me!"

After trying one more time to see the mysterious mother's room and failing because of the General, and seeming to make him angry, Catherine resolves on going alone. Which is kind of noble of her, but girl...

I don't know what exactly Catherine was hoping to find in that room, like bloodstains on the floor, a locked-up Mrs. Tilney, a series of clues? But whatever it was, the actual room breaks her out of her fever dream and she's desperate to get away. Unfortunately she runs into Henry and then questions his stair climbing abilities:

“Good God!” she continued, not attending to his address. “How came you here? How came you up that staircase?”

He used his legs, Catherine. Poor Catherine tries to get away, but Henry keeps talking to her until she's compelled to tell the truth. Henry quickly recovers from the surprise of being told that Catherine thinks his father is a murderer and describes Mrs. Tilney's last illness.

The amount of hedging in this paragraph, Tilney has become a horticulturalist:

You have erred in supposing him not attached to her. He loved her, I am persuaded, as well as it was possible for him to—we have not all, you know, the same tenderness of disposition—and I will not pretend to say that while she lived, she might not often have had much to bear, but though his temper injured her, his judgment never did. His value of her was sincere; and, if not permanently, he was truly afflicted by her death.

He loved her... well as much as he can love... well he's not very nice but... I mean she didn't exactly have a happy marriage... but you know, he was fine... I guess.

And then he launches into his whole speech about how they are ENGLISH and the English have LAWS. You know there are still murders in England, right? Mr. Tilney?

Other funny parts:

"No, and I am very much surprised. Isabella promised so faithfully to write directly.” “Promised so faithfully! A faithful promise! That puzzles me. I have heard of a faithful performance. But a faithful promise—the fidelity of promising!"

You know who else promises faithfully and doesn't keep their word? Lydia Bennet!

��Oh, yes! he was to come there with Wickham, you know. But, gracious me! I quite forgot! I ought not to have said a word about it. I promised them so faithfully! What will Wickham say? It was to be such a secret!” - Pride & Prejudice

And Henry Tilney calculating out the time Catherine needs to dress:

It would be not long enough for the Netherfield ladies, by the way, they take a full hour and a half to dress, even in the country! At five o’clock the two ladies retired to dress, and at half-past six Elizabeth was summoned to dinner. (Pride & Prejudice, Ch 8)

So fun fact about me is that I'm extremely picky when it comes to celebrity crushes and I don't have many because of that.

But Alan is just so intense? Like any character he plays I'm immediately in love with? Is this how people feel with Sebastian Stan or Chris Evans?

Severus Snape got me into him since I've rewatching Harry Potter after many years (I am pretty sure I saw the last two movies in theaters) and I was just like "wait he's so hot actually".

I need to watch more Alan movies to feed my yearning, do you have any recommendations?

Same for me, I’m so passionate about cinema and theatre that I’m very picky.  I was 8 when I saw Alan for the first time in Harry Potter and fun fact here : Snape was already my favourite !!! (There were only three books at the time, therefore we didn’t even know he was the real hero). 

And yes, Alan has such a magnetism, a charisma, it’s almost impossible for me not to be entirely absorbed in his work.  For recommendation, I guess you have already seen the usual Sweeny Todd, Die Hard, Sense and Sensibility and Robin Hood. Truly Madly Deeply is just breathtaking. Not Hollywood fancy things to make you cry here, just the blunt reality of life, everything is subltle, even the ending and Juliet Stevenson is just an amazing actress.

I really like An Awfully Big Adventures, but it can be a bit... disturbing, at least the end. On the contrary, Gambit is just hilarious.

I really like Blow Dry, it's so british, blunt, funny and a bit sad but yet again, with subtlety. I have a lot of affection for Phil and is broken heart.

A Promise, Michael Collins, Mesmer, Snow Cake, and Judas Kiss are less known but are still worth to be seen. And of course : Close my eyes because, we are all in love with Sinclair. But honestly, now I just watch the scene with Alan and I skip everything else.

You can definitely sign your message with a cake, because I love cake haha (I don't know what my liver thinks about it, though).

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Ted Lasso is the only fandom I'm actively writing in right now. In the past I've also written for Grace and Frankie and The Devil Wears Prada (DWP) as an actual active member of the fandom. I've also dabbled in Doubt, a specific National Theatre production of Twelfth Night, Dead To Me, Killing Eve, 9 to 5 (film), Supergirl, and Carol.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

Even now, all five are DWP Miranda/Andy fics. That is wild.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do! I think I've replied to nearly every comment I've received. I really, really appreciate comments no matter how quick or detailed they are and while I don't think writers have an obligation to respond to anything they don't want to, I always love hearing back from writers when I comment on their fic. Receiving a fic comment feels like an incredible opportunity to thank someone for reading and chat about the story. One of my favorite things about fandom is the interactive component; when I publish something in a lit mag, I might hear from a few people about it, but when I publish fic there's a built-in audience/community and I do not take that for granted.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Maybe "Millimeters" (Grace/Frankie), in which Grace ends the story pining for Frankie, who is in a relationship with someone else? But even that story doesn't actually have an angsty ending; by the time I published it, I was already in the process of publishing a multi-chapter fic that was the third and final part of the series and that has a very happy ending.

No matter how much angst I put characters through in fic, I am pretty committed to endings that have some degree of hope and at least the possibility of joy!

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I could answer with so many fics, but I'll go with "The Adventure" (Ted/Rebecca) because its ending is explicitly about Rebecca appreciating her life, sharing this appreciation with Ted, and feeling happy about her immediate future.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

If I have, I've blocked it out. I often put a note on my fics saying I am open to constructive criticism, and while I occasionally get criticism/questions/requests for additional tagging/etc. (all of which I welcome!), I've never gotten a properly hateful comment.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Absolutely! The sex I write tends to be relatively feelings-y, but that doesn't mean it isn't smutty! I absolutely love writing sex and a significant portion of my stories contain some kind of explicit content. I'm not totally sure what "what kind" means but by this point I've written solo sex, couple sex, and group sex in a variety of queer and hetero contexts. I've written more femslash sex than anything else, but I love writing it all!

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I have tried but never successfully published any. I was really trying to make a DWP + Grace and Frankie crossover work for a long time but it just isn't the way my brain operates. I did write a story about Grace and Frankie watching Killing Eve with their ex husbands, though! :D

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not word-for-word/reposted, but I've had significant passages and concepts from fic plagiarized. It annoyed me.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not yet but some may be in the works?! I've had lots of fic podficced before, and while all the podfics are in the same language, they still feel in some ways like a delightful act of translation.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes! The Ted Lasso Ted/Beard podfic @boglady, @podklb, and @rockinhamburger "Just Missed You," which we created for @pod-together.

I've also collaborated more loosely on a couple fics, like the Ted/Rebecca fic "Rebecca Welton, 2021" (@boglady wrote the first chapter and gave me permission to write chapter two and @diane-lockharts permission to write chapter three) and the Beard/Ted + pre-Beard/Rebecca/Ted fic "Before and After" (@theodore-lasso wrote the first chapter and gave me permission to write a chapter two).

I might be forgetting something older, but those are the ones that come to mind.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

Impossible question! When I'm fixated on something it's my most favorite thing forever in a way that sort of limits my ability to think broadly and actually answer the question. So it FEELS like my answer is a tie between Ted/Rebecca and Ted/Rebecca/Keeley/Roy and Beard/Rebecca/Ted and any Ted/soulmate situation and that might actually be accurate because I can't recall my brain deep-diving into character quite like this before. But also, Miranda/Andy?! To have started writing about them in 2008 and to still read them sometimes and to have beta-read stories about within the last few months...that's some wild staying power, man.

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Oof, I've had a couple barely-started AU ideas for Ted Lasso that I am just 100% sure I'll never have the energy to write. Everything else, never say never! Either I don't want to finish and won't or I want to finish and might!

16. What are your writing strengths?

Detail, I think? I really love thinking about super-specific sensory experiences and exactly how a character would feel and respond, and trying to carve "meaning" from the ordinary little details that stack up to form life.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I sometimes struggle with blocking and describing movements. I also struggle a lot with conveying big feeling transitions. For instance, I might be able to write yearning, and I might be able to write that same character in a reciprocal relationship with the person they once yearned for, but that moment when things change can be really hard to write.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

As long as it's in-character, yeah! I don't think I've really had cause to do this. The closest thing recently might be Rebecca sending a text message in Dutch. I didn't translate it; translating it wasn't required to understand the meaning of the story, so it was more like a bonus for anyone who cared to translate it.

I don't love it when a character who speaks multiple languages peppers their speech with random well-known-to-English-speaking-audiences words in a non-English language when it feels like the writers is just reminding the reader about this fact about the character. But I love it when it's done in a way that resembles how people actually switch between languages as they speak!

20. Favorite fic you've ever written?

Fic I haven't published yet! Always gotta have aspirations. <3

"Lavender II" (Beard/Rebecca/Ted) is a fic that I worked incredibly hard on and feel proud of because it just ended up being what I wanted and needed it to be, so maybe that's my favorite out of stuff I've actually already written.

No, but my brother (7 years old at the time) was allowed to pick my name (a risky play by my parents right there) and he picked one that "matched" with his.

Yesterday.

I actually don't cry too often unless I'm frustrated or someone else is crying but I was reading Vagabonds by Eloghosa Osunde and the chapter "Gold" hit me right in the heart.

I don't play any any more but when I was younger I used to do figure-skating, fencing, and ultimate frisbee (that one was very brief though).

I also do dance but not everyone counts that as a "sport" sport.

Do fish live in water? Yes. It is my love language, my sense of humour, my personality entire.

6. What is the first thing you notice about people?

Probably their height (I'm pretty short, it's hard not to notice when someone is towering over you or when they're actually closer to your height for once).

Also their interests, if I find out someone has a specific interest/hobby within the first meeting then that's going to be my marker for them until I get to know them better (and I will shower them with things linked to their interests in an attempt to befriend).

7. What's your eye colour?

Blue with some grey.

8. Scary movies or happy endings?

I've watched 2 scary movies in my entire life and have no desire to see any more. Happy endings.

I can memorise lots of peoples names very quickly, normally within 20 minutes. Not a very impressive talent but it comes in handy.

Luxembourg, have fun finding it on a map without looking it up.

11. What are your hobbies?

Reading, watching dramas, embroidery, language learning (we're on languages 4 and 5 right now), researching social and cultural history, dance, and musicals/theatre. I also love hiking but it's not something I get to do very often.

14. What were your favourite subjects at school?

I loved pretty much every subject I did at school (at least until I had to do exams in them) but the ones I never fell out of love with were Literature and Philosophy. History would have made the list but unfortunately the teacher I had for the last 2 years of school ruined it for me.

15. What is your dream job?

The job I'm doing right now. It's true that sometimes I hate it and I've cried plenty of times over it and have even contemplated quitting more times than I can count.... but it also brings me moments of great joy and I can't imagine doing something else, at least not at this point in my life. I think even if I didn't have to work, it's still something I would choose to do with at least some of my time.

I can't remember them all... Though my role as the Chorus is to narrate, or rather, direct the story, so it can't be helped.

It somehow feels like I'm the only one going on and on and on...

At the start, I can kind of get away with reading off my notes as part of reciting the prologue lines.

But every line afterwards has to be said off the top of my head... I don't feel like I have the brain capacity for that.

Wataru: Hm. The role of the Chorus was originally a simple one anyone could do.

This story is a special one, so the difficulty's ended up increasing, hasn't it?

If we appoint someone to play alongside you, you should be able to share the lines...

Recently, I've been having nothing but nightmares of forgetting my lines and freezing on stage.

And so, I'll occasionally use my vocal mimicry skills to speak your lines for you.

It will be limited to scenes where I'm not present as Juliet, but I'll hide in the shadows and speak in secret.

Well, in the worst case scenario, I am able to throw my voice to trick the audience on where it's coming from.

But when playing Juliet, I wish to be completely absorbed in the play.

If you need my help at those times, please give me a signal.

In the unlikely event that you miss or forget a line, I'll say them for you, in your own voice~ that's the plan.

Though, I do want you to do your best to say your own lines when possible. I don't seek perfection from the current you, so please try to do as much as you can.

i don't know many, but man. i like a good sung-through musical. means i can listen to the whole soundtrack from start to finish and have cohesively consumed a whole narrative. and tbh? falsettos, but even in trousers too, don't really have Bad songs. i've listened to the falsettos 2016 revival and in trousers 1979 original cast soundtracks dozens of times (both separately and together). which, i mean. compared to the other musicals i have here, i haven't even listened to their whole soundtracks (which. to be fair i did see those live). and yeah you have the really good songs that Everyone likes. the Thrill of First Loves and the Whizzer Going Downs and what have you, but you listen to the tracks a second time, or maybe watch the proshot again, and you get the smaller less-appreciated songs in your head. not included in the fav songs list because that thing's long, but i love A Breakfast Over Sugar. i get Set Those Sails and A Marriage Proposal and Miracle of Judaism stuck in my head. and its great! not to mention just how good and how important the story is .. i could go on but aough ..... long

Um... I don't really.. have a third that I can think of that's on par. But, it's School of Rock. It's awesome. my sibling had a track record of not liking musicals when they had to come and see it with me (when i still went out to watch musicals aough ...), but I think this was the first one they really liked - enough for me to get them a key ring of the show! (they cried during If Only You Would Listen too :]) It was a wonderful performance, and the kids were so good and coordinated too! They let us take pictures of the ending song ... which i just took a video of, so i still have that. I watched School of Rock during my ... hardcore theatre kid era though so.. i've got a few cringe worthy memories of it .. but yeah is good :]

I did see Moulin Rouge once as well, despite never having seen the movie, and that was very good as well. Though I'm not much for jukebox musicals (can't deny that Moulin Rouge tracks can be freakin' awesome though) and I think I was too busy ogling heehee

Hey guys! Time for HSMTMTS Appreciation Week Day Three: Favorite Quote/Scene/Original Song/Performance! I honestly don't think I would be able to pick for both of those, but I'll at least talk about one of my favorite quotes (if I try to talk about anything else this will most definitely be late, because it's midnight in 8 minutes, so we'll see - or maybe I'll make another post sometime lol. Coming back here with an edit from later in the post: yeah it's past midnight lol. Ignore that - I'm sure for other people it won't be xD).

And that quote is: "And now we're all here, maybe for the last time together. For some of us this has become. . ." "Family."

LISTEN OKAY!!!

XD Yeah, maybe a stereotypical quote, but it's always the first one I think of when I think of HSMTMTS quotes. It's just so relatable to almost any theatre kid, and I totally feel it. Especially given that this is in 1x06. At the end of the year before last, my amazing theatre teacher left. And last year, our musical was cancelled, shortly before we lost one of our members. I know that fear. During my rewatch, it hit me how much I did, when EJ said "I'm sorry no one will get to see you play Gabriella" (something like that). And that specifically relates to ANOTHER experience lol. My first real musical was High School Musical. I was cast as Sharpay, and I was so excited. COVID killed it, and after months of waiting and trying, we performed it on Zoom.

So I just feel this scene so much. They all have no clue what's going to happen, they're angry, they're upset, they don't want to lose this. And they're just barely starting to come together as a cast. But they know. They know that they're family. And it's right after this quote that they decide to do something about it.

And it brings me back to how much I love the Wildcats (guess I'm going to talk about that every post this week lol). They truly are a family, and seeing it from in Season 1 is just so special. And even though they keep going from here, and keep growing, this quote is the moment we know. The moment THEY know. That they're a family, and they're not going to give up on each other. Despite how different they all are, and despite their different opinions and emotions in that moment or all the time, they're not going to leave or give up. And I just love that, so, so much :').

I don't know if I managed to find all the words I wanted to there, but yeah lol :'). Now, since it's past midnight anyway, I will actually talk about the other options for today a bit lol.

Again, I could never truly pick a favorite of any of these lol, these are just examples of some of my favorites.

Favorite Performance: Stick to the Status Quo. Is this because of Seb? Maybe, who knows. But seriously xD, it's so good. The dancing, to AAHHH GINA'S BACK!!! AND SHE'S AMAZING!! To SEB MATTHEW-SMITH SLAYING THE HOUSE DOWN!!! It's just so good xD. And it's at the point during the show where they're all still having a good time, not switching roles and losing their minds yet lol. The amount of times me and my sister would be watching YouTube and see if in the search history and just. Look at each other. And immediately watch it again xD. It's just so epic.

And, this could be a point for or against it, it does make me feel some feelings (besides love for my babeys). Related to previously discussed crazy theatre happenings lol. It's kind of a bittersweet thing for me, just feeling a tiny bit off "I never got that". But it's worth it lol.

Favorite Scene: Honestly I genuinely don't know what to put for this lol. I want to put SOMETHING specific, even though this is probably harder to pick anything close to a favorite than any other category, but still lol. Okay, I thought of one lol. Yes, it includes a seblos moment, but shush, I can do what I want lol. Anyway! Carlos welcoming Ashlyn to the queer community :'). That entire scene lol, with EJ coming up after that and supporting Carlos, and then SEB!!! MY SEBLOS REUNION!! AND A KISS!!!! It's just such a good scene, I love it so much :'D. Like, seeing Carlos welcome Ashlyn and give her the pin :') - especially considering it like 100% definitely for sure confirmed it <33. And then seeing a bit of Carlos's insecurities, but EJ reminds us of that Wildcat love in saying that he doesn't have to do anything he doesn't want to do :'). And then Seb, showing up and being the cutest ever, and Ashlyn looking so happy that he's there, and Carlos seeing him, and just aAH!! I love them all so much <33 😭❤️❤️❤️🥰. I love all of those mini-scenes in one scene so much :') :'DD.

Favorite Original Song: Oh my gosh, I love them all xd. Okay, here are a few of my favorites (but it's a lot of them lol): In a Heartbeat, Born to Be Brave, Second Chance, and You Ain't Seen Nothin'. But honestly those are just some of the ones that get stuck in my head a lot or I listen to a lot lol.

In a Heartbeat: the perfect Seblos song. Also Ricky just. Being there. Always makes me die xDD. But seriously, it's SO CUTE, and it's a BOP (and Frankie's voice is amazing)! But seriously it's perfect for Seblos, like I said, and it's just so sweet :'). I have literal records (like in documents where I talk about it lol) of me freaking out over In a Heartbeat lol. It's perfect <33. Also, don't even talk to me about the homecoming suits sequence ❤️❤️.

Born to Be Brave: The icon of the series. I mean, clearly, since (SPOILERS) the last episode is named after it. Honestly if there's not a reprise of it I may riot /hj. But seriously, it's such a cute and empowering moment between Nini and Kourt, and of COURSE it's also empowering on Carlos's side :'D. And as someone who loves just dancing crazy however I want with my friends at dances? Yeah :'). Love <33. Anyway, it represents such big moments in multiple character arcs, and I just love it so much :')). Plus, again, it's a BOP!! And the ACOUSTIC VERSION!!! Don't even get the started on that :D.

Second Chance: THIS SONGGG!!! It makes me feel so many feelings 😭😭❤️. It's such a great summary of all four of their character arcs, and the VISUALS!!! They just kill me so much. Everyone back in their episode one outfits 😭😭💔❤️. And it back to the core four, especially knowing Nini's pretty much done :'(( ❤️. Honestly, I really want a song similar to Second Chance for everyone at the end of Season 4. I know we probably won't get it, but just- flashbacks to everyone's first outfits (honestly I'd take/love flashbacks in general 👀 but the point here is like Second Chance lol), everyone getting a part. And oh my gosh, if they all had individual lines? Like the little phrases the core four have in Second Chance? I don't know how that would even work (four overlapping in Second Chance works but everyone would be a LOT lol o.o xd), but it would be so cool. Anyway, Second Chance makes me so sad and nostalgic but it is SO GOOD!! It hurts but it hits xD. I just love it so much <33.

You Ain't Seen Nothin': This one, like I just said, just hits xDD. It's a BOP!!! And the video call format of it is really cool :D. But honestly, everyone gets their own part (as I saw pointed out in the comment section of it once lol, it fits everyone's voices, like Belle), and it's so upbeat and GOOD and just AGH!! I love it so much. It also accidentally makes me feel a bit of Feels™ (we're not worrying about that phrasing right now), because happy/"yeah let's make them most of this"/"we do amazing things and we will do amazing things" songs do that to me sometimes lol, but still. It gets stuck in my head SO MUCH!! Like the other songs I feel like are more appreciated/iconic than this one, but it just STUCK to me. I don't know why, but I don't care xDD. I love it <33. Also, it brings together everyone from the episode really well, just like the calls did throughout, but with music :D. And again, it's just so uplifting :). And also again, I love it <3 ❤️🥰🥰.

Also, special shout-out to the beginning of Here I Come for getting STUCK in my brain!! It's just. OUAGH!! Not that I don't love the entire song, but there's something about that beginning 👀. And also, again, the Wildcats loving each other gives me feelings xdd <33.

Watching a bootleg of Phantom on YouTube because we don't have a DVD player right now and Phantom is only streaming if you pay for it right now.

I first saw this musical 20 years ago (well, it will be 20 years ago in October, didn't quite get to 20 years. I wanted to see it for my birthday this year in October for the 20th anniversary of seeing it on Broadway but unfortunately that won't happen, even though I'm moving close to New York later this month).

I am so glad I got to see it three times on Broadway when in New York last month. I didn't know if I'd be able to see it again and I ended up seeing it three times on that trip. Such a beautiful production.

I heard Laird Mackintosh is the Phantom for the final performance? Is that true? I love him. Ten years ago he was I think Andre when I saw it twice on Broadway. He's put so much into Phantom. I also heard that Ben hasn't performed at all this month. Strange. I hope he's okay.

The first (Oct. 2003), second and third (Nov. 2013) times I saw Phantom on Broadway, Hugh Panaro was the Phantom and he's one of my favorites (as you might guess from the icon), even though the first was ten years before the second and third (that I saw two days in a row).

The fourth, fifth and sixth times (which was last month, March 2023, two days in a row then one day break in between for the third) it was Ben Crawford.

Somewhere between that I saw it twice on tour, once at Pantages with Chris Mann (July 2015) and the other at the Segerstrom with Derrick Davis (July 2019). I'd previously met Chris Mann on his tour for The Voice.

Also Love Never Dies at the Pantages with Gardar Thor Cortes as Mister Y (April 2018).

I still have the DVD of the 2004 movie I got as soon as it came out on DVD when I was like 8 (9? When did the DVD itself come out?) it doesn't work anymore and I have a different one to replace it as well as the 25th anniversary production of course.

I really need to buy a Playbill to replace the one from when I saw it in 2003, which I have seen some on ebay so at some point I will get one. I also really want to replace the Andrew Lloyd Webber 2002 Gold CD which was the first way I listened to any Phantom songs before I saw it live. I fell in love with Music of the Night at 6 years old before I even saw the musical. This musical has meant so much to me and it helped me through a lot when I was 16-18, and the height of my Phantom obsession. I am still very proud of the Phantom collection I have, every English translation of the original novel and a French language one of course, so many DVDs and a few VHS tapes, CDs, cassette tapes, books of and about Phantom and its adaptations. I've written papers on this story for college. I have seen so many adaptations, met my best friend and love because of Phantom and had many wonderful friendships because of this story.

I will miss you, Phantom on Broadway, which was my first introduction to this wonderful, tragic story. I will see you again once you come back for your inevitable revival at some point in the future. 35 years is a long time and you've had a great run. The Majestic won't be the same without you. Break a leg to whatever will be in the Majestic next having to deal with any lingering ghosts in that theatre! The Phantom will always haunt that stage, I'm sure, it's been his home for 35 years. You are a beautiful theatre and it will be so strange to see something else in the Phantom's place.

15 questions to get to know me

Bestie @oonajaeadira didn't tag me in this but I'm gonna do it anyway just to spite her.

1. are you named after anyone?

No and I'm a bit salty about that. I have two brothers and they both have family names. My name was picked at random and my middle name was originally going to be my first name until my mother heard a terrible nickname for it at the grocery store. I am so thankful for that because I HATE my middle name and don't use it unless legally required.

2. when was the last time you cried?

Last night! It was just a few tears, but I just started watching Euphoria and have been cruising through it and watched Season 2 episode 5, "Stand Still Like the Hummingbird," which was gut-wrenching and also one of the best episodes of TV I've ever seen.

3. do you have kids?

Nope and that's not going to happen. For the longest time I didn't want kids and then I went through a few years where I did, and now I'm just happy being the weird aunt to kids who aren't even related to me.

4. do you use sarcasm a lot?

I try not to. The majority of the time it comes off as cruel to me.

5. what’s the first thing you notice about people?

Weirdly, their hair. It's weird because I know nothing about hair or hairstyles but maybe my eyes just start with the top of the head when I meet someone. But I find myself thinking a lot, "wow, they have cool hair!"

6. what’s your eye colour?

Yellow ring around the pupil, blue ring around the outside, green in the middle. I do love them even though an optometrist once asked me what I say my eye color is and I said, "hazel?" uncertainly and they replied, completely deadpan, "That's a made-up color." So I just say "green."

Also fun fact: my dad and I have the exact same weird eye color AND are the only two in my immediate family who are near sighted.

7. scary movies or happy endings?

scary! sometimes I need a good happy ending, but a lot of the time I get mad when I feel like it's not earned.

8. any special talents?

I'm a really fast learner of anything I'm interested in. Also very good at teaching myself new skills.

9. where were you born?

a stupid town in Minnesota. but now I live in an awesome city in Minnesota and never go back there.

10: what are your hobbies?

Reading, writing, video games, puzzles, knitting, gardening, house projects, and hiking. I just want to be an old timey spinster.

11. have you any pets?

I have the best pets! My two black cats who are twin boys (from the same litter). They're sweet and snuggly and sometimes are assholes and are very entertaining. They totally make my life better and the three of us are super bonded.

12: what sports do you play/have you played?

Growing up my dad and older brother were really into sports and I tried to follow suit but was terrible at everything I tried. I did softball, basketball, tennis, and golf. My other problem was I just didn't care about winning or not and everyone else did, which I thought was dumb. I just wanted to have fun.

Thankfully I also did music and theatre and thrived in those. When I was older I trained in martial arts for ten years, which was the first time I realized all the things my body could do because I wasn't competing, just learning. I also do open water swimming in the summers, just because I really like to swim.

13: how tall are you?

5′9″

14. favourite subject in school?

"Language Arts" (English) was always my favorite, as well as orchestra, theatre, and art.

15. dream job?

I want to be retired and travel a lot. Seriously. If I had the choice, I would not work. Or maybe run a B&B in Costa Rica.

From my Covid Journals. At the start of the Pandemic, it was suggested that families and individuals keep journals of that time for history. Some did.

March 14th, 2020.

More countries locked down. World Health Organization, and the CDC a month or more late calls it a Pandemic. This delay has already cost lives. Spain Italy France Ireland soon the rest of the European Union will shut down. All restricted to their homes. The Saudi's and India went days ago. Parts of Africa gone silent. Mr. Trump our head of State was forced to declare a State of Emergency. He had for a critical month refused anything because he didn't want public reports of deaths thereby damaging his re-election chances. 

He even tried to stop that infected ocean liner from docking in San Francisco because it would raise the death numbers. ...hurting his political chances. He would have left them to all die at sea to get re-elected. The Port Authority ignored him let them in under quarantine on an offshore island. He is grossly incapable autocratic and some close to him now think disturbed. At any other time he could be put up with for the balance of his term. However, for this planetary emergency he’s worse possible person to be in the White House.

That's what's happening. 

Local State County City, and Township authorities have taken matters into their own hands. There ‘is’ a national pandemic contingency plan but it isn’t being used. We cannot rely on the executive branch. No one foresaw such other than in a case of nuclear attack. A disturbed head of state was never considered a possibility.

After this if we live. The Constitution may have to be changed.

There are some rushes on markets however, most shoppers keeping their heads. Though price gouging has begun. NYC is slowly shutting down. Shops starting to close. Theatres closed. Work hours staggered limits on public gatherings. Reflecting the lack of a specific plan the schools remain open. Parents are voting with their feet. As of Friday, 60% of kids were kept home. 

Personal stuff. I’ve been directed to our Medical Hub ‘Kings County Hospital’. The largest in the State Southern District. It’s overflowing with the infected. The morgues full. They’re using commercial and National Guard refrigeration trucks for the dead. These fill the hospital parking lots. It like a horror movie come true. I’m directed to walk into that nightmare to get my Diabetes meds. They won't do it through my pharmacy. They want to see me first. Part of the system still business as usual others in full Defcon-1. ...Chaos. Those with Diabetes have an 85% chance of infection. ...I’m staying home.

In time the Vaccines came. No real cure but these control it. ...you mostly don’t die. I got infected but had the vaccine and the boosters...I lived. A year ago, I would have certainly perished. ‘Butchers bill for the Pandemic to date: 8 Millions dead world-wide. 14 millions if related deaths counted. Over One Million perished in the United States. Closer to two millions perished if related fatalities counted...these not for political reasons. 80,000+ dead in NYC...where I live. I watched my neighbors die all around me. World economy wrecked...Supply Chains disrupted. 

The world chaos led to a major WW2 style land war in Europe. The Russo-Ukrainian War. This ending 80 years of European peace. So far no nukes. Hundreds of thousands dead millions forced from their homes. Further chaos an attempted violent coup in this country. 

Mr. Trumps neo-authoritarian mobs assaulted the Capitol Building after he was voted out. They attempting to arrest and execute members of the government. Then install Trump as ‘President for Life’ ending American democracy. It was put down. Not even in our Civil War did such happen. It was the first violent transfer of power in our history. Mr. Trump voted out refusing to leave tried to overturn the election. The Pandemic killed more than people...it killed dreams.

Chapter 8 : Fatal Night

Rain sheeted down the window when Y/N opened her eyes. She groaned and rolled over, as the previous night's events flooded back into her consciousness. Feeling the other side of the bed cold and empty, she sat up so fast that it made her head spin. Surely, it must be a dream that followed the nightmare. Dr Rochester had no reason to stay beside her, trying to comfort me.

When she clomped down the stairs still in a haze, the front door was wide open and Matt and Jade were standing near the porch, watching a car retreat.

"We need to talk," a voice hissed over her shoulder before dragging her back to the kitchen. "What did he do to you?" Rachael's eyes hardened.

"Who did what?" Y/N retorted in confusion.

"Stephen." She hissed. "I saw him leave your room." So last night she wasn't dreaming about him after all. He was there. She didn't know why but it filled her with some sense of relief. But then a new worry set foot. He had said Matt wouldn't be happy to see him beside her.

"Did Matt see him too?"

"No." She answered somewhat taken aback. "Did he do something?"

"No. Nothing." She couldn't understand the reason behind Rachael acting so paranoid. If everything she thought was a dream, wasn't a dream then he seemed nothing like a cannibal to her. She needed to make Rachael comprehend that her concerns were futile. "He stayed with me because I asked him to. I had a nightmare and I didn't want to be alone."

"You could have called me," she accused.

"I didn't want to interrupt you and Jade!"

Rachael flinched but her eyes were still hard on her. They didn't realize how long they had been staring at each other until Matt cleared his throat.

"External issue is resolved. What is the internal conflict?" He waved his finger between Y/N and Rachael.

"Nothing," she muttered, stomping out through the back door. Y/N shrugged her shoulders as Matt groaned, muttering something as girls.

"What happened to that animal?"

"Dead. The Rochester and Barton kids burnt it alive. Can you believe it?" He grumbled. "By the time Steve and I reached where they had caught it, it was set in ablaze."

"Calm down dad." She gave a small squeeze to his hand. "It's over now. And nobody will be killed anymore."

"Yeah..."

By four o'clock the sky had glowered into an inky blue. Janet and Y/N were on their way to the movie theatre. She knew from experience that once Rachael got upset, it would take her a day or two to be cordial with her. Till then the best thing to do was to avoid her. Emily was the first person she thought about when she wanted to avoid Rachael. Since she was worried about her calculus test, Y/N settled the evening with Janet. She was more animated than Emily and that was all Y/N needed for the time being. Her endless supply of tales kept her mind off Rachael, making time pass effortlessly.

"Look." Janet nudged her as they got out of their seats. Her eyes wandered off to where Janet pointed. "Is he stalking you now?" As if he sensed them watching, Bucky stopped long enough for their eyes to lock. Y/N broke away first not before receiving a low grin. She had told Janet and Emily about him, though at first, they felt she wasn't considering herself lucky enough to have him, and they eventually got concerned about his persistence.

"It's just a coincidence," Y/N said, trying to reassure herself more than Janet. The Rabbit had been tagged as the best horror movie, so having Bucky in a theatre full of enthusiastic horror lovers wasn't supposed to be disturbing. But since she had many forced dates with him, she knew the movie theatre wasn't on his list of the top hundred places to visit on any day.

A horror movie was particularly disturbing after what had happened last night but she didn't complain. She hadn't mentioned it to Janet, hoping it would shrink and shrivel in her memory, like other unpleasant incidents. Y/N was happy to go along with whatever Janet wanted; after all, she was getting what she wanted – away from Rachael's hostility and Matt's inordinate concern.

Y/N was a bit nervous when the movie started. For twenty-ten minutes, there were only teens making out with each other.

"I thought you picked up horror," she whispered to Janet.

"I did. Wait for them to go to the drive-in." She whispered back.

The group attended a drive-in screening of a banned film. Everyone who watched the film was attacking and devouring one another. Only the leads, busy making out, were unable to see the movie through fogged-up windows and were unaffected as mass violence erupted. They fled to the projection room and destroyed the film. Hours passed and instead of going to the cops, the two decided to find the director and force him to hand over all copies. Once found, they killed the director and burned the original film. But after they leave the director's hide-out trailer, setting it on fire; they return home to find that the film had been released on then the window showed the city descending into terror.

The rest of the movie comprised gruesome attacks and the endless screaming of those who hadn't watched and were unaffected. Though Y/N was unaffected in the beginning, gradually it brought back the memories of her escape from Queens. She stood up and bolted for the door, earning a few glares for disturbing the intent watchers.

After a few minutes, Janet came searching the hallway.

"Do you mind leaving early?" She whispered, feeling nauseated.

"No, of course not," she said, warping an arm around Y/N as they headed for the parking lot. "Only another twenty minutes are left. It sucks anyway."

"Was the movie too much for you? I thought you weren't scared. You didn't scream even once," she said, getting behind the wheel.

"No, it just brought back unpleasant memories."

"Oh," she said, "You were in Queens." Y/N nodded in response.

The road felt longer on the way back from Marysville. Night – cold and stony - had set in. She hadn't paid much attention to the road and was confused when Janet pulled over abruptly in the middle of the highway.

Y/N looked around, clouded, into the fogged darkness until she realised an uprooted tree blocking their way.

"Where are we?"

"Minker," Janet answered, her eyes still glued to the GPS on her phone.

"Do we go back or walk?"

She gave her an annoyed look. "Who is going to walk for twenty–eight miles?"

Y/N couldn't blame herself for the ignorance. She had been hardly out on her own, exploring the unknown territory.

"There's a short – cut through the creek but," she paused, grinning at her.

"It's not safe." Y/N completed. "We watched a horror movie. Our way back home is blocked. Now we're taking the unknown, creepy shortcut. What else could go wrong?" she huffed.

"Many things," she sassed, reversing and heading back to Sedro – Woolley.

The wooden planks creaked from underneath as Janet drove over it agonisingly slow.

"Make it fast," Y/N hissed, "Do you want to end up in the river?"

"If I go fast, we'll end up there anyway."

It was their third bridge in the last two hours. Janet's shortcut turned out only as a pedestrian road. So they had been twisting and turning in the forest roads and ended up still midway between Darrington and home.

"God," she sighed in relief when the tyres hit the roads. Even with the nuclear plant nearby, the road seemed unsettlingly empty and dark. And the fog had got worse, making things incredibly creepy. A pattering rain flushed out the wispy clouds of fog hovering above the road. The outside lights flickered again. A cold feeling prickled up the back of her neck, and the hairs on her arms tingled. Her sixth sense warned that something terrible was going to happen.

Just then they heard an impact before she registered the dark silhouette skidding across the hood of the car. Janet screamed and stomped on the brake. The silhouette thumped into the windshield with a splintering crack. She jerked the steering wheel right, sending them spinning on a collision course.

When Y/N opened her eyes she saw Janet unconscious, her head leaning against the window. Her head throbbed and a shrill ringing pained her ears. It was getting quite difficult to keep her eyes open as she fumbled for her phone. The glass of the passenger window was set to vibrate by thin air. No sooner did it explode; a fist came in through the window, clutching her throat. He was dressed in total black and blended with the night, making it hard to tell what he looked like. Y/N gave a hoarse cry as he began to squeeze the life out of her with a lethal smile.
