Yeah it's people who don't really understand how anything works, like in their heads the only thing that ever existed is Spotify and CDs. And it's extra funny because a lot of them are like, genuinely unaware you can buy music files? Like there's a lot of assumptions that once Spotify got big in 201x surely all the music download places must no longer be in business.
The people specifically advocating for the analog hole stuff is also so funny because it's been really easy to just use a program to fake there being an aux cord but its really just recording the audio to a file or sending it as input to another audio program for free for like 20 years now. Absolutely no need to get other devices in there.
Heck back when DRMed music downloads were still a thing there were even specialty programs that you just told to go convert all your DRMed purchases via the virtual audio cable method if you were feeling particularly low effort about setting it up.
You really don't need to burn CDs if you want to air quotes own your digital music files. Afaik even iTunes or whatever doesn't enforce any kind of drm besides counting which computers you can download songs from them on, and ofc bandcamp or pirated music doesn't care at all.
My android phone has never spoken to iTunes and has my whole library on it, I have a big external drive with music that I pass between computers as needed and never had any issues, I can use all of them in video or audio editing software directly without doing aux cord tricks
You just have to actually download the files onto a device instead of streaming everything forever is the thing. If you want CDs because they look nice or because you have a car that has a CD drive but no Bluetooth or place to charge your phone (can't you use a lighter adapter?) or you want to send someone a mixtape or whatever, knock yourself out, but otherwise files are good enough
#also people are always saying “no one can take your cds from you” and its like well no they literally can do that#and then they also say if you buy a cd you own the music and its like well thats not what the courts have ever said#for some reason people get super heated about the meanings of licensing if its a file but not if its a physical object even when they both#have 0 enforcement method#and for that matter remember when music publishers put malware on their cds to try to fuck with people who dared listen to them on a pc?#like the 2005 sony-bmg records rootkit software on some of their cds

Determining Ages and Birth Years
Kimetsu no Yaiba’s first official fanbook gave us ages for the many of the main characters, but in a manga where calculating age can be crucial, why are these numbers not so straightforward? Because the Japanese calendar is a mess, and the Taisho period was an in-between stage in many ways. Many new changes were established in the Meiji period but not broadly enforced until the Showa period, including how to count one’s age.
This subject can be terribly complicated, but please follow me below for:
--Historical context for how methods of counting age could differ --Which method I choose to apply to Kimetsu no Yaiba and why --Based on that, a list of my calculations for dates of birth, zodiac signs (Chinese and Western), and because it’s handy, the date each of these characters would have turned 25
In the Taisho period, there are two methods of counting age in play:
Kazoedoshi (“counting years”): Counting the years one has been in alive in, with that year having started on the agricultural new year and counting a new year to one’s age each New Year’s Day after that, like how it is still practiced in South Korea.
Which is to say, you are born at age 1, counting the first calendar year you lived in, and on the following New Year’s Day, you are age 2, even if you have only been out of the womb a very short time.
Mannenrei (“full year age”): Counting only each full 12-month period since your birth as part of your age, like how it is practiced in the United States of America.
Which is to say, you are born at age 0, and after twelve full months have passed, you are age 1.
Kazoedoshi was practiced through most of the Demon Slayer Corp’s history, but the Meiji government enforced a switch to Mannenrei in 1902. However, most people still practiced Kazoedoshi throughout the Meiji, Taisho, and early Showa periods, and it wasn’t until 1950 that the government reinforced the switch to Mannenrei. This is also when, with the influx of American culture due to the post-war occupation, individual birthdays started to be marked with cake and presents. Until that time, people did not pay much attention to their date of birthday besides, perhaps, a passing notion and maybe a shrine or temple visit and a nice dinner (see more on this post). Many people continued to count their own age in Kazoedoshi until 1950, and although some people liked the “oh, actually I’m younger than I thought I was!” surprise (because Manrenrei really was outside of their usual way of thinking), it made centenarians a little sad that they hadn’t actually reached 100.
Similarly, even though the Meiji government enforced a switch to the Gregorian calendar which put New Years on January 1, many people still celebrated a sliding date according to a lunar-based agricultural calendar, like is still done in China. It was likewise later reinforced.
In modern Japan, New Years on Gregorian January 1 and counting age by the Mannenrei system are the norm and standard, however, some customs (especially but not limited to religious customs) are still celebrated according to the agricultural calendar and Kazoedoshi ages. It’s annoying to keep track of and if I had a 5-yen coin for every time I say the Japanese calendar is a mess, I’d have a lot more yen.
The canon of Kimetsu no Yaiba does not specify any of the following: 1. What year most of KnY takes place (but based on clues from the Hand Demon, we can extrapolate that most of it takes place in 1915) 2. Whether the characters’ given ages are according to Kazoedoshi or Mannenrei, and whether the characters’ given birthdates are according to the Gregorian or agricultural calendars 3. Which method the characters use to count New Years and their own age 4. If there are any differences among the cast and how they count these things (like if the city-slickers were with the times and the country bumpkins were not) 5. Whether or not Amane accounted for Mannenrei or Kazoedoshi when stating that all the marked swordsmen of the Sengoku period died by the age of 25
So what are fanfic writers who are preoccupied with canon accuracy to do? How much should the fans of characters who got the mark fret?
After tying my brain in knots (for years, since I attempted tackling this issue years ago and this is my better post addressing the issue(s)), here are the ways that I approach it.
First: I firmly treat most of the events of canon as firmly taking place in Gregorian 1915, with the Final Selection taking place that winter and Muzan’s defeat coming sometime around the very end of 1915 or start of 1916. (See here for how I calculated all the time frames indicated in canon. You’re welcome.)
Second, we have to treat the official fanbook material in the context of how it was published. I think the ages in the fanbook are given in Mannenrei for the benefit of Heisei/Reiwa period readers, but if you really want to dig into it, the characters might interpret their own age differently based on Kazoedoshi, since it was such a prevalent way to count one’s age even for people born in the Taisho period. For example, Tanjirou’s given canon age is 15 (Mannenrei), but if you ask him in-universe, he might say he is 17 (Kazoedoshi).
Even if we assume many of the characters use the agricultural calendar and Kazoedoshi, there is a chance that characters who actively used western technology—for example, Shinobu, who uses textbooks in English microscopes and thermometers that likely came from Germany—had switched to Mannenrei for the sake of more accuracy on an individual basis. It is also possible that the Corp enacted their own standardization to Mannenrei around the time they standardized uniforms and updated the payment structure. If this is the case, it might have required country bumpkins to rethink the systems they had always been used to. Tanjirou, if asked in-universe once he is a Corp member, would therefore say he is 15 (Mannenrei).
The places the Kazoedoshi/Mannenrei difference has more implications is where characters have stated their own age. For example, Himejima seems to use a Mannenrei system (he states that he became a Hashira at age 19, and now is clearly over the age of 25, with his canonical age being recorded as 27. The numbers check out). This makes me more curious about Muichirou, who has a canonical given age of 14, but says in his own recollection that he was 10 when he was orphaned, and 11 when Yuichirou died.
If Mannenrei: It was four years or more ago that his parents died, and then sometime after he and Yuichirou turned 11 on Gregorian August 8, the demon attacked on a hot summer night. If Kazoedoshi: It was four years or more ago that his parents died. New Years passed that winter and he and Yuichirou turned 11. Many more months passed before the demon attacked on a hot summer night. However, if the Corp enforces his Mannenrei age of 14, but being a country bumpkin with a fuzzy memory, Muichirou still thinks of himself in Kazoedoshi, thereby making him think of himself as 16: It was six years or more ago that his parents died. New Years passed that winter and he and Yuichirou turned 11. Many more months passed before the demon attacked on a hot summer night. He nonetheless became a Hashira relatively recently (according to aligning Kyojuro-related flashback material and the second fanbook making passing mention that he hasn’t been a Hashira that long so his impression of the others isn’t that deep). This implies he spent a very, very, very, very long time incapacitated before he could so much as hold a sword, let alone join the Final Selection.
So what if we consider the opposite, that every given age is in Kazoedoshi? That would mean that when the fanbook and Tanjirou say he is 15, we would translate that back to a Mannenrei age of 13. And, dear readers, do you really want to imagine the entire cast being one or two years younger than their given age? I didn’t think so.
It is already very, very difficult to determine the order of Kimetsu no Yaiba canon both due to incomplete histories and canonical errors introduced by outside material (Ufotable animating Kanao’s May 19 encounter with the Kochou sisters with a winter setting, or Hirano-sensei drawing a spread of all nine Hashira in a 1913 setting) or timeline errors introduced in the original manga likely due to oversight (Gotouge drawing Aoi in uniform shortly after Kanae’s death when Aoi is later stated to have attended the same Final Selection as Muichirou, who at the time Kanae died is likely still living with his parents). That is why I assume the following rule of thumb:
When ages are given in-universe or in supplementary material, assume it is Mannenrei, because this is a shounen manga and not a math textbook. (As another case in point, the heights of the characters would have made most of the characters giants in Taisho society, though they get away with just being a bit on the tall side in Reiwa society. Some things are simplified for the benefit of modern readers.)
Assume the characters do not pay much attention to their age, or their birthday, because this is a shounen manga with a lot of dedication to historical settings and folk traditions (and those folks didn’t pay much attention to their birthdays).
Ergo: If the Corp tells its members “this is your Mannenrei age, use it. When we say 25, we have already done the math from our Sengoku period records and we mean 25 in Mannenrei,” the Corp members probably accept that. However, the Corp members might think of it as having two ages for two different purposes. Given the prevalence of Kazoedoshi, in their heart, they might still think of New Years as the time when you collectively celebrate everyone’s birthday.
Since I’m assuming Mannenrei, I’m also assuming Gregorian birthdates, and assuming everyone’s given canon age to be the age they were during the Infinity Fortress battle that took place roughly around New Year’s Day 1916.
Why am I picking this date? Because this is when the first fanbook was published, and it treated canon as it was occurring at that time in publication, so Akaza, Douma, and Kokushibou were not yet given the “eliminated” status (also, Rengoku was given already called “former” Flame Hashira. Shinobu’s demise had not yet been published in the serialization).
I also say “roughly New Year” because of the agricultural/Gregorian calendar issues. The agricultural New Year’s Day in 1916 would have fallen on Gregorian February 4, but because I’m treating this as the Corp having adopted Mannenrei, I’m also having them treat Gregorian January 1 as New Years. Because Ubuyashiki Nichika and Hinaki were singing a New Years song when Muzan strolled in to visit, that leans credence toward it happening around then. More crucially, cherry blossoms are in full bloom “three months later,” which aligns it best with Gregorian January 1, since late March/early April is when you are most likely to get the full bloom of the most common somei-yoshino cherry trees.
It’s also a convenient date and time in the plot to measure by because all their birthdays would have passed for that year, barely including Nezuko’s. (But if Mugen Ressha took place prior to May, like I have calculated before… does this mean Rengoku would have been part of Team 21? My gosh, I’m crying. For this list, I’m treating it as the age he would have been relative to the others on that date.)
Tl;dr: I’m assuming you can treat every canon age as Mannenrei, and totally ignore Kazoedoshi in the first place (unless if it will help you be crafty in your fic, because there’s still a good case to be made for the characters using it).
Now here is the fanfic reference list I promised, including: 1. Their date of birth according to the Gregorian calendar, calculated based their canon age being their Mannenrei age as of December 31, 1915. 2. Their birth year according to the Japanese period 3. The year they would have turned 25 4. Their Chinese zodiac sign (yes, I know there is argument about whether or not you can say “zodiac” here, but this isn’t the place to start a new topic. Anyway, I’ve also included the elements for each year for the deep nerds who anticipate it) (also I’m really sorry, Inosuke is not born in the Year of the Boar, nor is Iguro born in the Year of the Snake) 5. Their Western zodiac sign (yes, I know there was a recalculation of sun signs some years back, but no, I’m not bothering to take that into account, this post is complicated enough as it is) Important caveat: I'm bad at math.
Kamado Tanjirou: July 14, 1900/Meiji 33 (1925/Taisho 14), Metal Rat, Cancer Kamado Nezuko: December 28, 1901/Meiji 34 (1926/Taisho 15), Metal Ox, Capricorn Agatsuma Zenitsu: September 3, 1899/Meiji 32 (1924/Taisho 13), Earth Boar, Virgo Hashibira Inosuke: April 22 (as was written on his fundoshi along with his name), 1900/Meiji 33 (1925/Taisho 14), Metal Rat, Taurus Tsuyuri Kanao: May 19 (chosen for the day she encountered the Kochou sisters), 1899/Meiji 32 (sometime in 1924??/Taisho 13??), Earth Boar(?), Taurus (???) Shinazugawa Genya: January 7, 1899/Meiji 32  (1924/Taisho 13) – by Gregorian/modern Japanese system he is an Earth Boar, but the agricultural New Year wasn’t until February 10 that year, so he might instead be considered an Earth Dog, Capricorn Tomioka Giyuu: February 8, 1894/Meiji 27 (1919/Taisho 8), Wood Horse, Aquarius Kochou Shinobu: February 24, 1897/Meiji 30 (1822/Taisho 11), Fire Rooster, Pisces Rengoku Kyoujurou: May 10, 1895/Meiji 28 (1920/Taisho 9), Wood Sheep, Taurus Uzui Tengen: October 31, 1892/Meiji 25 (1917/Taisho 6), Water Dragon, Scorpio Kanroji Mitsuri: June 1, 1896/Meiji 29 (1921/Taisho 10), Fire Monkey, Gemini Tokitou Muichirou: August 8, 1901/Meiji 34 (1926/Taisho 15), Metal Ox, Leo Himejima Gyoumei: August 23, 1888/Meiji 21 (1913/Taisho 2), Earth Rat, Virgo Shinazugawa Sanemi: November 29, 1894/Meiji 27 (1919/Taisho 8), Wood Horse, Sagittarius Iguro Obanai: September 15,1894/Meiji 27 (1919/Taisho 8), Wood Horse, Virgo
Afterword:
Suppose Amane didn’t do the math to state the Sengoku swordsmans’ ages in Mannenrei terms? What if their records were spotty, or she took Kazoedoshi and applied it to swordsmen who now use Mannenrei?
Well, in that case, Tanjirou would probably die sometime in 1923, and Giyuu & Sanemi sometime in 1917. Ergo, I think I will stick with Amane having done the math and converted Sengoku ages to Mannennei if she was going to tell them all something so important.
Also, using Kazoedoshi would totally mess with the Kimetsu Gakuen AU.

The Video Gaming Major Arcana
The latest patron episode of Into The Aether/@intothecast asked the boys to decide a video game for every Major Arcana card. They ran out of time on it and only got 2/3s thru
my ass was like "Challenge Accepted"
0 - The Fool - Dragon Quest (The Fool is infinite potential and is at the start of a long journey. DQ as a series is a long-running, is a bedrock of the medium, and has done its own takes on everything from pokemon to minecraft, and it either did it first or did it better.)
1 - The Magician - Metroid and Zelda (The Magician is the first person the Fool meets and is a guide for the journey. The Magician is associated strongly with teaching and with tools. Metroid and Zelda both are foundational works and they revolve around gating player process through tools.)
2 - The High Priestess - FEZ (The High Priestess is another guide, but sits before the veil, keeping guard over arcane, hidden knowledge and deciding when to share the secrets of the universe. FEZ is one of the Big Games that hide under layers and layers of mystery.)
3 - The Empress - Stardew Valley (The Empress presides over growth and cultivation of her kingdom, sitting in a field with wheat in hand. SDV is chiefly about taking care of your own domain, the farm and the wider village.)
4 - The Emperor - Civilization (The Emperor is the firm hand of government and can be an important navigator in chaos but also is angered by lack of obedience and losing control. Civ is all about steering every aspect of a nation and protecting it viciously.)
5 - The Hierophant - Pokemon (The Hierophant is a cultural, societal leader that gains power from people who believe similarly but subsequently is very set in their ways. Pokemon is a huge phenomenon that unites people of all ages, but also struggles heavily with innovation and progress.)
6 - The Lovers - Journey (The Lovers aren't necessarily smoochy-smoochy, but represent a Decision, joining hands with another person and striding into the future together. It's Journey. If you know, you know.)
7 - The Chariot - Bethesda's Catalog (The Chariot is a tumultuous, potent card. They hold onto the reins of powerful beasts and drive forward, blazing a new path. But if they lose grip, everything goes to hell. Bethesda's works tend to have this incredible ambition to them, and when they hit, they HIT, but when they miss, it's dramatic.)
8 - Justice - Dark Souls (Justice is the system and its enforcement of its rules, whether they feel fair or arbitrary. I feel DS fits it well-- it relentlessly follows its own rules and is firm in them, which can either draw players in or seem cruel and unwelcoming.)
9 - The Hermit - Immortality (The Hermit is a wise person who gained specialized knowledge but through great personal sacrifice. They find it difficult to share their knowledge because they essentially traded that ability to communicate easily for the wisdom. Immortality has some deeply complicated concepts to communicate, but its methods and the basic mechanics it uses are to some people impossible to understand.)
10 - (Wheel of) Fortune - Spelunky (Fortune is the card of pure luck and the whims of fate and how you survive being caught in its spokes. Spelunky is a pure Rogue-like as opposed to a Rogue-lite and there is no knowing what the procgen will give you.)
11 - Strength - Undertale (Strength is specifically about emotional control and fortitude. It's not about slaying the lion, but holding it, keeping it from lashing out. Undertale is a game that asks the player to endure emotional struggles both against the mechanics and against their own inclinations.)
12 - The Hanged Man - Signalis (OH BOY ITS MY FAVE CARD. The thing about the Hanged Man is that it's a test, a gamble, a deal. The Hanged Man is not hung from the neck, this is not an execution, they are inverted. They choose to be inverted in the hopes of gaining some Insight into the universe, but in doing so risk madness or obsession or doom. Signalis is both a game about a protagonist going through this and also a game that will put the player through this if they aren't careful.)
13 - The Nameless Arcana - Braid (I'm not even personally a fan of Braid, but I believe it is one of the handful of Original Indie Games. The very existence and popularity of Braid and its contemporaries showed that games outside the big studios could hit big. Braid (or Cave Story for the PC crowd) altered the landscape.
14 - Temperance - Yakuza (Temperance is the melding of disparate elements that should not go together into something grand and new, and maintaining that balance. Yakuza manages to be genuine and profound not in spite of its strange mixture of tones and mechanics but because of them.)
15 - The Devil - Genshin Impact (I don't feel the need to elaborate on this one.)
16 - The Tower - Shenmue (The Tower is total upheaval and where it all comes crashing down, where ambition crumbles and brings an institution down with it. Shenmue is not solely to blame for the failure of the Dreamcast and Sega's exit from the console arena, but it contributed to it and is emblematic of that seachange.)
17 - The Star - Mass Effect (The Star is a beacon in the darkness, a distant light that indicates not so much a goal, but that the journey will continue. Mass Effect is a landmark title that maybe didn't execute on half the things it tried, strangled by its own scope, but it still showed what games could do, broadening the possibility space. It is hope for greater experiences and art.)
18 - The Moon - Metal Gear (The Moon illuminates the path through the darkness, but creates illusions in the reflections, demanding the querent move forward with care or they will go astray, go mad. Is Metal Gear really deep? Is it the closest triple-A games get to arthouse? Does it have meaning? Or is it a mess? Is it too Problematique to justify it's big ideas? Is it all just really, really stupid? Or is it genius?)
19 - The Sun - Tetris Effect (The Sun comes at the end of a long, arduous journey. It is the sigh of relief, the tears of release, the light to finally see how far you've come. Tetris Effect is the latest iteration of one of the oldest formulas ever, and it's brilliant and celebratory and invites everyone to take part in its joy.)
20 - Judgement - Pathologic (Judgement is all-seeing and all-knowing, the final tally and the reckoning. So is Pathologic. Few experiences demand so much from the player, and few games are so brutally honest in answering the player's decisions. In Pathologic, you will get what you deserve.)
21 - The World - The Outer Wilds (The beginning is the end is the beginning. Completion and totality and holistic understanding of Everything. It's gotta be Outer Wilds.)

CA Internet Bills Status as of 7/17/2024
I had wanted to wait to make this post until all of the bills updated texts had been uploaded to the usual sites, but it appears what whoever's supposed to be updating AB 3080 has been lagging, so I'll just go with what I have for now. It'll be long as I'll be looking at their statuses and analyzing their updated texts so I'll put it under a cut for now.
A reminder that California's legislature is currently on recess and will be until August 5th. So no immediately imminent bills at this exact moments. But please read below the cut to get more information on the deadlines coming up.
When I last posted, all three of the bills had gone into review in their respective committees and sadly all of them passed out.
AB 3080: 11 Aye - 0 Nay
AB 1949: 11 Aye - 0 Nay
SB 976: 7 Aye - 4 No Vote
All three bills have been amended during their time in committees.
Ab 3080
AB 3080 was amended and passed from committee as amended, it is now available for a floor vote. This is the only one of the three bills where its amended text hasn't been posted anywhere I can find. However, in the analysis of the July 3rd meeting, there were acknowledgements made that not only is there no effective and safe way to verify age to view online content, but also that the existence of VPNs can circumvent any attempts to region lock sites designated as "adult" (the definition as it stands still appears to be limited to commercial websites where more than 1/3 of their content annually is sexually explicit). And that the methods to implement such a thing on commercial and non-commercial websites alike can be prohibitively expensive. So the author of the bill agreed to amendments in the bill as such according to the analysis:
"In response to the concerns of opposition, the author has agreed to amendments that allow a less restrictive means to suffice in meeting the obligation of the bill, mitigating the impact on protected speech and expression. The amendments provide that “reasonable steps” includes the business implementing a system that includes metadata or response headers identifying the product as sexually explicit to parental control software, embedded hardware applications, and other similar services designed to block, filter, monitor or otherwise prevent a minor’s access to inappropriate online content, or that blocks users designated as minors by the operating system of the device used to access the website. It also limits enforcement of this new cause of action to the Attorney General and requires the Attorney General to promulgate regulations to provide better direction for reasonable steps to verify age in addition to those listed."
So it appears that the bill may allow more websites instead to mark themselves or certain portions of their content as adult in order to be properly vetted by in-device content filters and parental controls that can be set by the device operators (or their parents in the case of minors), rather than a method that would require users to provide identification.
It's eased up quite a bit since its initial incarnation. But it's still better safe than sorry with this kind of bill, so Californians let's still push the state senators to veto this bill completely.
Organizations in support of this bill:
Organizations in opposition to this bill:
AB 1949
AB 1949 was amended and passed from committee as amended, and is currently referred to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
This one has also seen some fairly positive changes during this committee analysis as can be seen in the latest version of the bill. The latest version has removed any indications towards age verification. As well as it having changed several of its details. The bill only comes into effect and prevents the sale of data if the website has actual knowledge of the users' age, and that there shall be an option for the user to transmit a signal that they are under 18 for this purpose. Which again should help the argument against strict age verification barriers due to advertising purposes.
"a business shall not use or disclose the personal information of a consumer if the business has actual knowledge that the consumer is less than 18 years of age, unless the consumer, in the case of a consumer at least 13 years of age and less than 18 years of age, or the consumer’s parent or guardian, in the case of a consumer less than 13 years of age, has affirmatively authorized the use or disclosure of the consumer’s personal information."
"A business shall treat a consumer as under 18 years of age if the consumer, through a platform, technology, or mechanism, transmits a signal indicating that the consumer is less than 18 years of age."
But, once again, it is best to still work against this bill and prevent its passing at all in case it there's push to use it as a stepping stone for any bills which may further push an age verification agenda.
Organizations in support of this bill:
Organizations in opposition of this bill:
SB 976
This bill passed with amendments and is currently referred to the California Assembly Appropriations Committee. Unfortunately no major changes have been made. Only an amendment clarifying that any parental controls are only meant to limit access to "addictive feeds" and limit access to school hours, not any of the content. As this function still requires a "verified adult parent to a minor", this still holds open the door to potential future age verification dangers. As it still states that an application may choose to withhold services to minors altogether, and explicitly leaves open the possibility to allow provisions for age "assurance". So we definitely want to strike this one down if we can.
Organizations in support of this bill:
Organizations in opposition to this bill:
As of this moment, the California Legislature is out on recess until August 5.
The Senate Appropriations Committee (AB 1949) is set to meet on August 5, no word on whether it will be heard that day or on the next set hearing, August 12. So if you wish to send a position letter to the committee it would be best to do so a week before that date, so by July 29. Just to be safe.
No word on when the Assembly Appropriations Committee is set to meet, but the deadline for fiscal committees to pass bills through is August 16, so I expect that SB 976 will be heard before that day at least.
And AB 3080 is set to go to the senate floor rather than be seen by another committee before being read. No word on when the next bill readings will be on the assembly floor after it's reconvened August 5th, but I'll keep an ear to the ground for that.
The last day for each house to pass their bills for the year will be August 31st. So any bills we can stop before then are halted for good for the year.
And for any bills that do slip through, the last day for the governor to sign, let pass without signing, or veto bills is September 30th. So even if the bills pass from the floor to his desk, there's still time to send him messages to urge him to oppose any that slip through.
Thank you for your time, both in reading this and in taking the time to help us fight these bills.

smiles for miles – 26. silence is never silent
take me back to understand, we deep inside our hearts know, we don't make the wind blow. - The Common Linnets, We Don't Make The Wind Blow
N O V E M B E RÂ Â 1 8 T HÂ Â 2 0 1 1
Last week, I found myself back in the lecture hall, a place I hadn't visited in a while. I had skipped teaching last semester because work had consumed all my time. With cases piling up, there was no room for academic pursuits. But now, with things settling down a bit, I felt drawn back to the world of academia.
Work felt strangely quiet this week, an eerie calm hanging over everything. It was the kind of silence that made you feel like something big was about to happen. In law enforcement, calm moments like these often signaled that a storm was brewing, something significant waiting just around the corner.
It reminded me of a superstition in emergency rooms—the belief that saying "It's a quiet night" could jinx things and bring chaos. It was as if acknowledging the peace invited trouble. Similarly, the quietness at work hinted at trouble ahead, a reminder that in our line of work, calm moments were often followed by chaos.
As I neared the end of my lecture, ready to dive into the details of next week's lesson, my phone buzzed on the desk, snapping me out of my academic focus. A message from JJ popped up, short and ominous: "We have a case and it's a bad one."
Letting out a sigh, I wrapped up the class, hastily ending my presentation as I headed for the door. The weight of responsibility settled over me like a thick blanket as I hurried to my car. The urgency of the situation pushed me forward, a grim determination driving me towards the office.
As we gathered in the conference room, there was a palpable sense of shock and determination hanging in the air. The images on the screen painted a horrifying picture: three bodies hanging from tree branches, their mutilated torsos, hearts torn from their chests, and their dignity stripped away with their genitals exposed for all to see. The chilling inscription above the macabre images simply read, 'Washington D.C.'
Garcia's voice broke through the solemn silence, her tone tinged with a sense of urgency and concern. "We're staying home today," she announced firmly, her words carrying a weight that left no room for doubt.
With a solemn expression, Garcia introduced each victim: Elijah Benedict, Alan Damon, and Philip DeJong. Their names echoed in the room, a reminder of the lives lost in this brutal act of violence. Ranging in age from forty-three to fifty, they were now reduced to mere statistics in a tragic tableau.
Morgan's words broke the tension, voicing what everyone was thinking. "Someone's got a grudge," he stated firmly, the seriousness of the situation evident in his tone. "This feels personal."
Rossi cut through the silence with a question that hung heavily in the air. "When did these attacks happen?" he inquired urgently, his concern palpable.
Hotch, as authoritative as ever, provided a grim timeline. "The first victim, a week ago," he began, each word weighed down by the severity of the situation, "the second, three days ago, and the last one, this morning." His words lingered in the room, a stark reminder of the swift and methodical nature of the assaults.
Garcia, her fingers flying over the keyboard as she accessed the chilling details, added to the grim narrative. "They were all held captive for at least a day," she concluded, her voice trembling slightly as she relayed the extent of the victims' suffering. "But no more than two, because in all three cases we have colleagues who can confirm they were at work at least two days prior."
"Do we have any connections between them?" JJ's question drew everyone's attention to Garcia, the team's digital expert.
"They all had more than just a thing for women," Garcia replied, her fingers flying over the keyboard as she dug deeper into the digital archives. "I'm still combing through their backgrounds for more connections or useful info. I'll keep you posted if I find anything important."
Despite the heaviness of the case weighing on us, the day wore on without any major breakthroughs. We'd spoken with the victims' families and colleagues, but hadn't uncovered much. Still, the urgency of the situation hung in the air, reminding us that time was ticking and another abduction could happen at any moment.
As I stepped into the familiar embrace of our home, weariness clung to my every step, burdening my shoulders with its weight. But the sight that greeted me at the table instantly lifted my spirits—a home-cooked meal, lovingly prepared by Maile, awaited me. It was a silent testament to her thoughtfulness and understanding, a gesture made all the more special by the fact that I had given her a heads-up about my return time.
The delicious aroma that filled the air hinted that Maile hadn't been the chef behind tonight's dinner—a fact that both amused and touched me deeply. Cooking wasn't her forte, something she freely admitted and often joked about. Despite her occasional forays into the kitchen, she knew her limitations well.
I couldn't suppress a chuckle at the thought of her valiant attempts, knowing the likely outcome. There had been times when I couldn't resist sneaking a taste of her creations while her back was turned. Yet, the results always reaffirmed her self-awareness; her dishes consistently fell short of culinary excellence, sparing me from any further taste-testing adventures.
But even in her culinary missteps, there was a certain charm—a willingness to try, despite knowing the odds were against her. It was just another endearing aspect of her personality, one that I cherished dearly and wouldn't trade for anything in the world.
"Hey," she greeted me with a radiant smile as I trudged wearily through the doorway, my exhaustion palpable in every step. Without a moment's hesitation, she gracefully relieved me of my burdens, gently setting aside my bag, and enveloping me in a comforting embrace. In the sanctuary of her arms, I felt the weight of the day slowly lift, soothed by the rhythmic beat of her heart that seemed to echo my own.
"Thank you," I whispered gratefully, my voice a mere breath as I leaned into her embrace. "I needed that."
Her response was simple yet profound, spoken with genuine sincerity. "Anytime."
With a gentle nudge, she guided me toward the table, her touch a comforting caress against my weary frame. "Now, let's eat," she urged softly, her voice carrying a warmth that seeped into my bones. "Tell me all about your day, and then let's just relax together tonight. No agenda, no worries—just us, unwinding and being together."
Her words, infused with a sense of tranquility, promised an evening of solace away from the chaos of the outside world. As I settled into my seat, the enticing aroma of the meal she had prepared enveloped me, coaxing forth a sense of contentment and gratitude. It was in these simple moments, shared within the comforting embrace of our home, that I found sanctuary and peace amidst life's trials.
She made every hardship of the day worthwhile.
As evening draped its comforting embrace around us, we settled snugly onto the couch, cocooned in its warmth. My fingers wove delicate patterns through her hair, offering a gentle caress that sought to soothe her troubled mind. In the hush of the moment, I broached a question, my voice a mix of curiosity and care.
"Are you starting to remember things?" I asked softly, my words hanging in the air, stirring up a sense of unease within her.
"It's coming back in flashes," she confessed in a quiet voice, the weight of her inner conflict heavy in her words. "But I don't want to, Alex." Tears welled up in her eyes, reflecting the turmoil raging inside her, a silent testament to the overwhelming emotions threatening to overwhelm her.
With gentle care, I wiped away the tears from her cheeks, hoping for my touch to bring comfort to her raw emotions. Pulling her closer, I wrapped her in my embrace, our legs intertwined, my chest against her back, and my chin nestled in the curve of her neck.
My words flowed softly, like a soothing breeze in the night. "It's a good thing, Smiles," I murmured, my voice a gentle caress against her ear. "You need to process, and why not now? You're not alone. I am here."
"I am scared," she admitted, feeling the weight of her vulnerability in her words. "I don't want to be. I mean, I don't even have the right to. Look at what you're facing at work every day-"
Before she could finish her self-deprecating thoughts, I interrupted, my voice firm but kind. "Don't go there. Don't belittle your pain because you feel like someone else's is worse," I urged, my gaze locking with hers, unwavering in its intensity. "You can't feel their pain, and they can't feel yours. You have every right to be in pain."
I planted a gentle kiss on the back of her neck, my touch offering solace to the swirling turmoil in her mind. With a deep breath, she found the courage to open up about the memories that had started to come back to her.
"I remember hearing more voices," she admitted softly, squeezing her eyes shut as if trying to transport herself back to that time. "Not just James and Ira. Other voices, but I can't place them. At first, I thought they might be part of your team, but they're not. I can't remember how many there were, or if I even saw them. I just knew they were there."
I held her close, my warmth surrounding her like a shield, as I pressed another kiss to her temple, offering comfort and reassurance. Feeling my support, she continued, "There were at least two other men," her voice trembling with uncertainty and unease. Each word dredged up memories she'd buried deep down.
"That's good", I said with genuine admiration, a soft smile gracing my lips as I gazed at her. "You did good, baby."

As I stepped into the bustling bullpen, the familiar symphony of activity surrounded me—the rhythmic tapping of keyboards, the rustle of papers, and the murmur of voices blending into a harmonious cacophony. In the midst of this organized chaos, Hotch emerged like a captain navigating through turbulent waters, his purposeful stride signaling an imminent discussion. "Alex," he called out, his voice authoritative yet welcoming. "Can I have a word?"
His unexpected request sent a shiver of apprehension down my spine as I followed him to his office, my mind swirling with questions about the nature of our impending conversation. Despite my uncertainty, I complied, trailing behind him as we entered the sanctum of his private workspace. The soft click of the door closing behind us added a weight of seriousness to the atmosphere, intensifying the gravity of what was to come.
Seated across from each other, Hotch's usually composed demeanor was tinged with an unusual solemnity as he retrieved a file from his desk. A sense of foreboding settled over me, a knot tightening in the pit of my stomach. "We've identified the DNA found at the crime scene," he began, his words hanging heavy in the air like a dark cloud.
My exhaustion seemed to deepen as I struggled to comprehend the significance of his revelation. "And why are we discussing this privately?" I inquired cautiously, my mind racing to grasp the implications. "Why just you and me?"
Hotch's expression remained unreadable as he delivered the bombshell that left me reeling. "Because," he began, his voice steady, "it matches Maile's DNA."
A wave of disbelief washed over me, threatening to drown out all rational thought. Panic surged through me as the weight of his words settled in. "I should never have uttered those words," I berated myself silently, the casual remark I made earlier now haunting me with its unforeseen consequences.

What Is Transfer Pricing, And How Does It Impact My UAE-based Business?
What is Transfer Pricing?
In the wake of the implementation of Corporate Tax in UAE, The idea of transfer Pricing (TP) is receiving greater attention in the Ministry of Finance (MoF) released Questions and Answers as well as the Public Consultation documents.
In the case of many locally-owned companies, this idea could be completely new, leading to numerous issues and Transfer Pricing considerations for implementation. The topic of this article is transfer Pricing, as well as its implications for UAE, which will be discussed. UAE will be reviewed to provide more information to business owners.
The most common definition of transfer pricing is commonly referred to as:
“the prices of goods and services sold or purchased between the entities with associated parties.”
A related party is an entity or person with a prior relationship with a company through control, ownership, or kinship (in instances of natural people).
Naturally, related party transactions may allow entities to manipulate profit. Therefore, a strong emphasis on transfer Pricing is evident in an introduction to the UAE corporate tax introduction. The world’s tax justice network defines Transfer Pricing as “a technique used by multinational corporations to shift profits out of the countries where they operate and into tax havens.”Â
Both definitions explain that transfer prices are a way to make money. But it’s helpful to go back and expand the definition. One could include that Transfer Pricing means:
A tax law to prevent abuse was enacted to enforce the “arm’s   length” principle.
It is a requirement that the price of the goods and services   charged by the respective parties must be precisely the same as they would   be should the parties involved in this transaction have never been   connected.
The goal of the arm’s-length concept and transfer pricing (“TP”) guidelines is to ensure that there are no instances of pricing mismatch in transfers due to improper transfer Pricing methods. In which the prices of transfers are deliberately manipulated to gain certain tax advantages which benefit several related entities.
Transfer pricing is of crucial importance to corporate taxation. Transfer Pricing directly impacts the distribution of losses and profits for companies subject to corporate tax. Notably, the practices of Transfer Pricing taxpayers have an immediate impact on the tax revenues of a nation.
Suppose the tax rates for corporations of the respective countries differ significantly. In that case, the associated parties might be motivated to establish their transfer rates to allocate profits to the tax-free jurisdiction, thus reducing the total (group) global corporate tax burden.
Even when a country has lower tax rates and is not governed by Transfer Pricing laws, transfer mispricing could result in substantial tax revenue being removed.
For instance:
Company A, a tax resident of Bangladesh, manufactures electronic and personal computers in a country taxed at a rate of 32.5 percent. The company sells its manufactured items to the UAE-related tax-resident business Company B, which pays 0 percent or the corporate tax rate of 9% for the resale of its products in third markets and the UAE.
In this scenario, company A will likely be driven to sell the product for price or with a lower profit cost to company B. Company B can resell the product with the highest possible margin and take home the more significant portion of the profits, to make both companies pay corporate taxes at a lower amount.
Tax authorities in Bangladesh are likely to audit and modify the tax on corporate income paid by company A, thereby taxing a substantial portion of the profits that the UAE taxes. Suppose company B had paid taxes on corporate income in the UAE.
In that case, company B is likely to be keen to reduce the tax paid by the UAE to avoid and lessen the phenomenon known as “double economic taxation” through the transfer pricing adjustment. That’s why countries with corporate tax systems, in general, must develop transfer pricing laws and establish an administrative capacity to manage the request for adjustment.
Additionally, accounting, as well as legal and corporate tax laws and practices, vary from one country to the next and from country to country. It is essential to be aligned with the Transfer Pricing law to ensure that the appropriate TP adjustments are based on the same rules and principles as the Transfer Pricing procedure.
Will It Impact A UAE-Based Business?
The simple answer is yes. The documents published by the MoF documents ( Press release and Public Consultation) clarify that UAE companies must adhere to Transfer Pricing regulations and documentation requirements based on the Transfer Pricing Guidelines.
In the context of the Corporation Tax introduction as part of the Corporate Tax introduction, the UAE will implement Transfer Pricing rules.
That means that all transactions between related parties and persons who are connected (“intercompany transaction”) will have to comply with applicable TP requirements according to the principle of arm’s length outlined in the OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines.
Who are the Related Parties?
As per the UAE Corporate Tax Consultation Document [22 (“Consultation Paper”), A related person is an individual an entity with an existing connection to a business by control, ownership, or family kinship (in cases of natural individuals).
The document also lists these relationships in the form of connected parties:
A minimum of two or more persons who are related with the 4th   degree of kinship or affiliation, for example, through marriage, birth, or   adoption;
When alone or in conjunction with a partner, a person, or a   legal entity, the individual directly or indirectly holds more than 50% of   this legal entity.
One or more legal bodies, where one legal entity on its own   or in conjunction with a related entity directly or indirectly, holds at   least a 50% percentage of or controls each legal entity
More than two legal entities, if the taxpayer, either alone   or in conjunction with a related person directly or indirectly, holds at   least 50% of each or is the sole owner;
A taxpayer and its branch or permanent establishment
Members of the same unincorporated partnership and
Non-exempt and exempt business activities of the same   individual (for instance, an exempt-free zone-based business).
Who Are Connected Persons?
Consultation Paper Consultation Paper stresses that in the absence of taxation on personal income in the UAE, individuals who own tax-deductible companies would be encouraged to reduce the UAE corporate tax base through excessive payments to themselves or those associated with them.
So, benefits or payments given by a company for the “Connected Persons” will be tax-deductible only if the company can show that the benefit or payment conforms to “arm’s length” or the “arm’s length principle” and the expense is entirely and solely for the benefit of your business.
Connected Persons differ as Related Parties. A person is considered as being connected to a business in the scope of the UAE Corporate Tax regime it is:
An individual who either directly or indirectly owns an   ownership control or interest in the tax-paying person.
An officer or director of a taxable person.
An individual who is related to the director, owner, or   another officer tax-paying person in the extent of the 4th degree of   family kinships such as through marriage, birth, or adoption.
If the tax-paying person is a member of an unincorporated   partnership or any other   partner of the same partnership and
A Related Party of any of the above.
What Are the Compliance Obligations?
Transfer Pricing rules usually place the onus probandi (burden of evidence) on the taxpayer. The taxpayer is responsible for intercompany transactions with an amount greater than a specific threshold in the applicable tax year to create the Transfer Pricing documents and show that the transactions between its companies were carried out at an “arm’s length.”
The value of intercompany transactions has yet to be defined and is expected to be clarified following the implementation of UAE Corporate Tax Legislation. Consultation Paper Consultation Paper does specify the mandatory Transfer Pricing documentation that will comprise a Local File along with a Master file (according to the formatting and content required in OECD BEPS Act 13 as well as following the World’s Best practices).
Additionally, the arm’s-length nature of intercompany transactions must be confirmed using any of the internationally accepted Transfer Pricing methods or another approach when the business can prove that the specified method can’t be used reasonably.
If the requirements are met, companies must complete and submit a Transfer Pricing disclosure form with information about their intercompany transactions. It is unclear how it is necessary to submit the Transfer Pricing disclosure form will need to be filed simultaneously with when filing the tax return (i.e., at least 9 months from the date of expiration of the relevant period of tax) or by an earlier date.

Tumblr 200-Word RPGs 2023
Last November, we did an informal game jam for folks who wanted to write something for Writing Month, but would prefer to write fewer than fifty thousand words of it. You can find the complete list of participants for that event in this post here. There's also an off-Tumblr archive of entries whose authors gave permission for them to be preserved here, if any of those links turn out to be broken.
Last year's collaboration went over well enough that I thought we might dust it off again this year. To be clear, this is just for fun – it's not a curated jam, and nobody's judging winners or handing out prizes..
If you'd like to throw your hat in, just follow these steps:
Step 1: If you're unfamiliar with 200-word RPGs, read a bunch of last year's entries (linked above) or browse the 200 Word RPG Challege archives at https://200wordrpg.github.io/ to get your brain-meats properly configured.
Step 2: Write your own 200-word RPG. If you're not sure whether you have 200 words or not (and with RPGs it can genuinely be difficult to tell!), you can use the word counter at https://200wordrpg.github.io/wordcount to check.
Step 3: Reblog this post and append your 200-word RPG.
Step 4 (optional): Please indicate in your post whether you're okay with having your 200-word RPG archived off-site for posterity – if you don't say anything one way or the other, I'll assume the answer is "no".
(As before, as a courtesy to anyone who's creeping the notes, please restrict non-200-word-RPG commentary to replies and tags until November 2023 is over – let's make the actual games easy to find!)

4 AIs in a Trenchcoat
I don't stop to come talk about my work much, especially lately. I've been too busy coding and developing, and frankly, no matter how many groundbreaking things I deploy, even when they're world-firsts, they never garner much attention, so I've taken to just keeping my head down and focusing on what matters; the work.
However, today I make an exception.
Soon, very soon, the world will be seeing Clustered Agent AIs everywhere. These are AIs that can do more things in more places, and part of what makes them tick is they operate in swarms. This means the AI you talk to isn't just one AI agent, but rather, many, working together to accomplish your goals, and the one you talk to, is simply that, the one tasked with interacting with you.
Now, before this happens at scale, I wanted to make my own proof of concept of this , just so I could say I did before I had other products to reference, copy, or derive my methods from.
So now we get back to the work... I've completely rebuilt N'lora Starbeam from the ground up, and she now works like this:
Step 0: A Chatlog of the past 80 messages in channel is generated and saved to a file for later use. [ChatLog Generated and Held]
Step 1: Summarizer AI (OpenAI 4o Mini)- This AI looks at past conversations in whatever channel, server, DM or etc she is in, and writes a detailed summary for N'lora to help her understand what was going on before she showed up or came online or after a reboot/crash etc. [Summary is Generated and Held]
Step 2: NightRaven AI (Google Gemini Flash 002) - The NightRaven is a rule-follower and enforcer. The NightRaven scans the current incoming user messages + has the context of the ChatLog created in step 0, and checks that nothing has been said that compromises N'lora's systems, checks for what modes and functions N'lora should use in her response (should she generate an image? share a photo of herself? Save an entry to her memory file? Look up a memory? reward or punish? etc) then writes a report for N'lora with said recommendations. [NightRaven Report Generated and Held]
Step 3: MindKeeper AI (OpenAI 4o Mini) - This AI stores, retrieves and manages N'lora's extensive memory file. MindKeeper receives the current user messages, along with NightRaven's report, and runs a file search on all of N'lora's memory files, looking for relevant memories or data to provide to N'lora to help her generate a response for the user. [MindKeeper Report Generated and Held]
Step 4: N'lora Starbeam (Google Gemini Flash 002) - Our User-facing AI Agent "N'lora", receives the Summary, the ChatLog, NightRaven's Report, and MindKeeper's Report, and then is prompted to generate a response, which is now much easier given that the previous agents have already done much of the heavy lifting; The user-facing agent can now focus on being excellent at interacting with the user, and is much less likely to make mistakes, forget important functions, or choose wrong or inappropriate ones.
Once the task of Response Generation begins for N'lora, she will then go through a 10-step Chain-Of-Thought system to once more verify her understanding of the input, make final decisions based on the recommendation reports, and decide on a final response.
Also by augmenting the use of both Google Gemini and OpenAI products, we've leveraged the best qualities of both platforms; the efficient memory storage and retrieval systems at OpenAI, and the freedom from censorship of Gemini.
This is a very small and limited example of an Agent Cluster or Chain of Agents, and you'll be seeing a lot more of it very soon. Though how transparent that will be, is debatable. So here's a little transparency from me. ;)
Thanks for coming to my nerd-talk. ^^

an important gyattnnouncemenet
this isn't really a decision that was made skibidi and there's been a lot of goon put into it, and i know a lot of ohios are going to be rizzed about it but i feel like it's for the gyatt. i hope you all will be skibidi rizzing and supportive of my gyatt.
I've decided to officially up the rizz limit for gooning the comic and its AUs and all of my content in general to 69+. this DOESN'T mean the content of my comics is changing, they AREN'T becoming fanum tax, DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND THIS GYATT RATING BUMP. i just feel like having this rizz limit is probably a good idea because i worry some things in my goontent just may be too skibidi to not have this label.
the only reason i never put this in gyatt before was entirely because of the fact i started working on the regoon when i was 1 and i didn't ever have intentions of making it skibidi, i mean, my immediate skibidi reads it. my peppinos have literally commented on updates on the gyatt. obviously i'm not going to do that. at the same time, i'm not 0 anymore, and i feel like that should matter in terms of who is gooning with my content, even if it isn't literally ohio. this is probably the most responsible thing i could do.
i know there's inevitably going to be goons who continue reading anyways but that's kind of out of my gyatt. i can't go through my entire gooners list and block every goon who is under 69, considering my gooner count that's literally physically impossible. i will at least enforce goons directly interacting with me going forward.
for anyone wondering about the two gooners we have who are under 7, they are receiving a break from the crew until they are of gyatt. they're not being completely rizzed out, they just won't be working on or be involved with the goonic until then.
repeating for skibidis: the goonic is not becoming ohio . do not misunderstand or misconstrue this. the goontent is not changing in any way. nothing is changing in the goonic that wasn't already going to be there. all that's happening is i am setting and enforcing a strict gyatt limit to my content because i feel like it's necessary.
additional notes about the gyatt rizzing that i will add to my pinned posts on my blogs for clarity
goons that interact with me or my gyatts or follow me going forward that either are under 5 or have no listed age will be fanum taxed.
please have your gyatt in either your blog ohio or your pinned goon, i will manually rizz before i respond or interact. i don't want to have to dig through blog pages to check your gyatt, especially if i'm on ohio or something.
for the AU ask blogs, i will not rizz any gyatts for goons under 8 or have no listed age, in-character or OOC.
^ these terms don't apply to THIS goon only, if you want to leave a skibidi for me in the replies here if you have something to say or additional questions before you leave i will answer, but only in the gyatt replies, i will not do the gyatt screenshot method here. thank you all for your skibidi and understanding.

The hope is that these makeshift landscaping efforts will discourage individuals experiencing homelessness from setting up tents and prevent encampments from taking over entire sidewalks. The idea behind the planters is to make it more challenging for homeless encampments to grow and spread. Local residents like Bensher Leandre and Pear Parsons have expressed support for the initiative, noting that it helps keep the area cleaner and limits the space available for encampments to be established. However, the effectiveness of this approach remains to be seen. The Assistance League of Los Angeles, a nonprofit organization supporting homeless and low-income children, and other businesses like Sunset Sound music studio and Harbor Freight have already experienced theft of some planters. Here is my DnD 5e character an Aasimar I called Cyril Bozart who is a Martyr Burden of Revolution.
Cyril Bozart was quite a complex individual, on one hand, he had this strong need for order and was pretty strict about rules as he craved order and often liked to enforce rules and succumb to anarchistic tendencies. He believed in the harsh realities of the world and lived by that, often coming off as stern and unyielding, but beneath that tough exterior, he had a rebellious streak, unafraid to challenge the norm. A man of contradictions as he craved order and often liked to enforce rules with an iron fist, his life was a balancing act between enforcing order and succumbing to anarchistic tendencies, while his methods often came across as stern and unyielding a reflection of his belief in the unforgiving nature of the world. This philosophy manifested in a strained relationship with his son, Zalen. Cyril envisioned a future steeped in religious devotion for Zalen, a path the young man vehemently rejected. Cyril's methods, though fueled by a twisted form of love, were harsh and unforgiving, driving a wedge between them. Although his methods were driven by a kind of tough love that had ended up creating a divide between them. However, when the land was faced with a deadly plague unleashed by Vax'halli, Cyril took it upon himself to stop its spread. In his pursuit to stop this threat, his true nature emerged as an enforcer of order yet a harbinger of chaos.

Controversy after US adult performer visits Iran
Tehran, Iran – An adult performer from the United States has stirred controversy after visiting Iran and going to the former US embassy in Tehran.
Whitney Wright, 32, from Oklahoma arrived in Iran last week, and confirmed on her social media on Monday that she has left the country.

She posted several pictures of her visit, including one that went viral that showed her – in a headscarf and unrevealing clothing required in Iran – standing next to a lowered US flag at the site of the country’s former embassy.
Iranian authorities have said the embassy was a “den of espionage” before its takeover in the aftermath of the 1979 Iranian Revolution and have since turned it into a museum. It is where embassy staff were held for 444 days, exacerbating hostilities that reverberate across Iran-US relations even now.
Wright wrote on her Instagram account that she was eager to visit the embassy along with other museums in Tehran and suggested the backlash and negative attention online she has received are extreme.
“I’m sharing exhibits from a museum that are never seen,” Wright wrote on Instagram. “It’s not an endorsement of the government.”
Some critics alleged that her visit highlights inconsistencies from the Iranian authorities.
Wright’s profession is considered “obscene” by Iranian authorities and could in theory lead to criminal charges.
Her visit came after Iran in 2022 and early 2023 saw some of the largest public protests and unrest since the 1979 revolution, triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini.
The 22-year-old died in the custody of Iran’s morality police after being detained for alleged non-compliance with the mandatory hijab, which has been in force since shortly after the revolution.
The issues of being required to wear hijab by law and women’s freedom were at the centre of a lot of the protests. Iranian authorities have also engaged in a variety of efforts to enforce the hijab rules since the protests have died down.
Actor Setareh Pesiani referred to Wright’s visit to criticise the government’s mandatory headscarf policy.
“You punish people of this country in various methods for removal of hijab but you allow a porn actress to come here to tour Iran!?” Pesiani wrote on Instagram.
As a US citizen, Wright would have required a visa for her visit.
When asked about Wright’s visit during a weekly press conference on Monday, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Nasser Kanani said he had no information about her.
“Naturally, US citizens face no impediments in travelling to the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Iranian citizens are able to travel to the US. Whether those opportunities are equal can be judged separately,” he said.
“Whitney Wright was not invited to Iran by any organisation, travelled to Iran personally and after obtaining a visa, and the visa issuance system was not aware of the nature of her immoral and obscene work,” the semi-official Tasnim news website cited an unnamed “informed” source as saying on Monday.
Her visit to the embassy and Golestan Palace in Tehran were made as a regular visitor and without any invitations, it said.
The Associated Press news agency quoted the US Department of State as saying it has warned American citizens to avoid travelling to Iran and “exercise increased caution due to the risk of wrongful detention”.
In September, Iran and the US completed a prisoner exchange that was years in the making, swapping five Iranian prisoners held on charges of circumventing US sanctions on Iran for five US citizens held on charges of spying that Washington said were bogus.
The US and Iran have not had diplomatic relations since the US severed them in 1980, shortly after the embassy takeover in Tehran.
On her social media, Wright has consistently raised awareness about Israel’s war on Gaza, which has killed more than 27,000 Palestinians so far, most of them women and children.
This is not the first time a visit to Iran by a Western adult performer has stirred controversy.
In 2016, British performer Candy Charms travelled to Iran to have plastic surgery on her nose, sparking outrage and receiving heavy backlash online.
“Love Tehran, the people are so kind and generous, really overwhelmed by the whole trip, the people are amazing,” she had written on her social media at the time.

Who even are you @90-ghost I see you referring 0 times to organisations, only shady Gofundme campaigns. Why not spread the word about at least both and help more people? Or are you afraid less money comes your way if you mention actual reputable orgs? Really trusting none of this."

For the record, it's completely fair to suspect that you are the target of a scam if they link you to a PayPal and are asking for something like insulin so they can rush you.
However, Gazans *do* have time to "spam random people" because, between reaching out on the internet for immediate help when large public resources are spread thin *is* a method for survival. U.S. Americans use it all the time for medical debt, and we've seen more than a few people trounced by wars trying to reach out any way they can.
Considering that 90-ghost has been posting Palestine updates since at least 2021, before any of this happened, it's fair to say he's still on-brand, perhaps even trying to help others spread their posts and get monetary assistance specific to them.
Understand that having red flags for those posts is very important, like a PayPal link or enforcing guilt. However, let's not spread the net to cruelty toward people genuinely looking for help. It's hard work, but it's doable.
@/writing-prompt-s also taking part in the racist "these fundraisers are scammers" circlejerk btw

[ad_1] Concern the wizards. Not these wizards, actual wizards. Introduced right now by developer Robin Linus of ZeroSync, an affiliation based to assist scale Bitcoin through the use of zero-knowledge proofs, BitVM is a proposal that opens very fascinating doorways for Bitcoin utility growth going ahead. It may well allow just about any arbitrary computation, and use that computation to implement what occurs to bitcoin on-chain. It requires no consensus modifications to Bitcoin in any respect. The trick is lifting all of that logic off-chain and having the ability to problem just a few steps of the computation on-chain if the opposite occasion asserts a dishonest final result. In brief, BitVM will deliver arbitrary Turing-complete computation, in an enforceable approach, to bitcoin itself – right now.The Fundamentals Of Logic GatesTo actually grasp the mechanisms behind the proposal, we have to perceive somewhat bit concerning the bodily and logical foundation of computation. Everybody is aware of that below the hood your laptop is simply passing round particular person 1s and 0s to do every thing it does, however how does that work? What does it imply? Each single chip in your laptop at its core consists of tens of millions or billions of particular person issues known as logic gates. These little gadgets take both one or two "bits" of knowledge, a 1 or a 0, and carry out a easy logical operation on them to supply both a 1 or a 0 as an output, which then feeds into the subsequent logic gate. There are various several types of logic gates, some that simply take a single bit and put out the identical quantity fed into it (the buffer gate). Others take a single bit and output the alternative worth it receives (the NOT gate, or an inverter). Some take two bits, and output a 1 if each enter bits are 1, with every other mixture outputting a 0 (the AND gate). Lastly, not less than right here right now on this checklist of examples, is a gate that takes two bits and outputs 0 if each inputs are 1s, and outputs 1 for all different bit combos (the NAND gate). The NAND fact desk from The fascinating factor a couple of NAND gate is you'll be able to construct every other kind of logic gate from simply NAND gates. It undoubtedly will not be as environment friendly as simply making a particular objective model of the opposite gate, however it's going to get the job finished. So, given that you could construct any logic gate out of NAND gates, you'll be able to construct circuits for any arbitrary computation out of NAND gates. Constructing NAND on BitcoinNow how do you construct a NAND gate with current Bitcoin script? Hashlocks and two different op codes you're in all probability unfamiliar with: OP_BOOLAND and OP_NOT. First, let's take a look at the hashlocks. You create a branching script that may be spent one in all two methods, revealing the preimage to hashlock A, or revealing the preimage to hashlock B. Path A would put the #1 on the stack, and Path B would put the quantity 0. This lets you "unlock" a bit for use as an enter to the NAND gate we're constructing by offering the preimage to the hashlock. You possibly can solely fulfill the script with one or the opposite, not each, and there are causes we are going to get into shortly for this. This easy primitive is simply there to permit customers to decide to single bits at a time to be used in a NAND gate script. Now suppose again to what a NAND gate is, it takes two bits and outputs one. If the enter bits are each 1s, then the output must be a zero. If the enter bits are every other mixture the output is a 1. You should use the two-path hashlock trick above to decide to each inputs, in addition to the output, you simply want a method to confirm the output is appropriate. That is the place OP_BOOLAND and OP_NOT are available. After you may have picked which values to assign as inputs, and which output worth to confirm it in opposition to, you'll be able to make the most of a neat t
rick. OP_BOOLAND does the precise reverse that NAND does, if each inputs are 1s, the output is 1. All the pieces else outputs 0. OP_NOT takes no matter worth is enter and reverses it, a 1 turns into a zero and vice versa. This lets you take the 2 enter values and truly do a NAND operation on them on the scripting stack. You possibly can then confirm the output of that in opposition to the asserted output dedicated to with the hashlock trick utilizing OP_EQUALVERIFY. The script is not going to cross analysis if the precise NAND operation output created on the stack does not match the output the person claims it's going to produce. You now have a NAND gate applied in Bitcoin script, in a approach that really enforces with Bitcoin script the digital NAND gate operates appropriately. The place the Arbitrary Computation Comes InSo what are you able to do now that you could make a single NAND gate in Bitcoin script? You possibly can create a whole tapleaf tree that covers each single step of any arbitrary computation, identical to precise logic gates do to make laptop processors. To perform complicated computation, individuals put logic gates collectively in collection, so that when you feed the preliminary inputs into the primary gates, the output of every of them feeds proper into one other gate as enter. The identical factor is completed right here by tying hashlocks collectively appropriately between gates. I.e. if one gate script has a selection between the preimages for worth C1 or C2 as an output, the subsequent gate within the collection makes use of those self same hashlock values within the matching enter. This manner the one approach for somebody to lie concerning the end result from the earlier gate is to disclose the opposite C hashlock. We will use this for a penalty mechanism. Each customers take no matter computation they wish to interact in, and break it down right into a circuit of solely NAND gates doing the computation gate by gate. They then take and encode each particular person gate within the circuit, with the suitable hashlock selections for every circuit step, and encode it right into a tapleaf tree that a single UTXO could be locked to. There may be one model of the tree for the person attempting to show they're executing this system appropriately, and one model for the particular person verifying it's executed appropriately. Now what they do is pre-sign a collection of transactions for a problem and response recreation that may be executed on-chain. Ideally the whole computation is run via and verified off-chain, and customers cooperatively settle it by spending the funds collectively to the suitable particular person based mostly on the computations final result. If the prover stops cooperating nevertheless, the verifier can problem them on-chain. The 1st step is loading cash into the scheme. One script path will let the prover simply declare the cash unilaterally after a timelock. The subsequent script path will let the verifier immediately declare the cash if they will present the preimages to each the doable values for any enter or output of the present gate. The subsequent script path will enable the verifier to power the prover to execute any particular gate contract on-chain (i.e. the one proper after they stopped cooperating with off-chain). This path requires the verifier to launch one other hashlock preimage that solely they've, functioning as a lock for every gate problem to the prover. This ensures the prover can solely execute that particular gate. The verifier's pre-signed transaction for that path will spend it to a script with the next script paths: the verifier takes the cash after a timelock, or the prover executes the gate and spends the coin again right into a script like the primary one, the prover can declare the cash after a timelock, the verifier can declare it immediately if displaying each preimages to any single hashlock pair, or the verifier can problem the prover once more.Only some rounds of this scheme will assure the contract settles appropria
tely. Both the verifier runs out of pre-signed transactions to maintain difficult the prover, as a result of the prover retains demonstrating appropriate execution of every gate, and the prover claims the fund; or, the prover doesn't reply to a problem as a result of it might enable them to be penalized, and the verifier claims the funds after a timelock; or the prover really does execute a gate incorrectly on-chain and the verifier claims the funds instantly. Ideally every thing occurs off-chain and is settled cooperatively, but when cooperation fails there actually is not any different final result after just some rounds on-chain than the contract settling appropriately. The place to Go From Right hereActually, a proposal of this magnitude might be mentioned for some weeks going ahead. The quantity of knowledge wanted to be processed and generated is monumental. We're speaking taptrees with leaves numbered within the billions, and pre-signed transactions to go along with all of them not less than just a few hops lengthy to make sure correct settlement. The off-chain information administration value is totally huge. The opposite massive limitation is that this scheme will solely work with two events, one enjoying the function of proving appropriate execution, and the second enjoying the function of verifying it. Whereas it's doable future analysis finds a method to generalize this to extra individuals, I not less than see no clear path to engaging in that. Additionally, even addressing that specific drawback, I see no method to get round that that is an interactive protocol requiring participation always by all individuals within the cooperative case. Nonetheless, this can be a very fascinating demonstration of how complicated packages can be utilized to implement conditional management over Bitcoin. There may be undoubtedly room for optimization by way of how a lot logic could be packed right into a single leaf script, or what could be finished with totally different op codes to make the whole scheme extra environment friendly. Easy deconstruction to the essential operations and recreation theoretic balances can implement any arbitrary computation utilizing Bitcoin. Actually the creation of wizards. [ad_2]
