Nordstrom Rack with Jamie Seiden
Our chat with Jamie Seiden - a remote project manager for Nordstrom Rack- was very insightful and engaging! Surprisingly enough, one of the most informational parts of this talk was for insight into going into an industry early career. I learned about the Buyer Executive Training Program at Nordstrom Rack. Additionally, hearing about how climbing the ladder at Nordstrom Rack looks like was very interesting. She told us more about her experience with the application and interview process. She found the job through indeed, had 3 interviews, took an excel test, and learned about the company for her best foot.
Additionally, we learned more about the history of Nordstrom Rack, and what her job path has looked like so far. Nordstrom Rack as expanded a lot as a company: purchasing Hautelook in 2011, launching an online site and their own consistent product, new branding last year, and refreshing the image to acquire younger customers.
Jamie has been with the company for 10 years and jumped around from home merchandising assistant, beauty assistant digital merchandiser, shoes assistant digital merchandiser, and now a marketing project manager. Hearing about her different career jumps even in the same company showed a lot what an early career in the industry looks like - as well as what job in that sector look like.
After this chat, I am interested in being a project manager at some point in my career. I think what Jamie does sounds like a role that interests me, and fits within a lot of my skills! I'm excited to learn more from other industry professionals going forward!

Outlet Stores and Discount Retailers
Many high-end designers have outlet stores or offer their collections at discount retailers. These stores often sell designer dresses at a fraction of the original price. Be sure to visit these outlets or check their websites for incredible deals.

Sample Sales
Designer sample sales are events where you can find one-of-a-kind pieces and samples at significant discounts. Keep an eye on announcements for sample sales in your area or online.

Subscribe to newsletters from your favourite designers and retailers. They often send out exclusive offers, promotions, and early access to sales to their subscribers.
Secondhand and Thrift Stores
Don't underestimate the treasures you can find in thrift stores and consignment shops. With a bit of patience and a sharp eye, you might discover vintage designer dresses at a fraction of their original cost.
Social Media and Apps
Follow designer brands on social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter. Some brands run exclusive promotions or giveaways through their social channels. Additionally, consider using shopping apps that aggregate deals and discounts from various retailers.
Keep an Eye on Fashion Events
During events like Fashion Week, designers may offer special discounts and promotions on their collections. It's worth checking for these opportunities, especially if you live in or near a fashion hub.
Outlet Malls
Visit outlet malls that house a variety of designer stores. You can find multiple designer dress options in one location, often at lower prices than in standalone boutiques.
Buy Versatile Pieces
When investing in a designer dress, aim for versatility. Choose a dress that can be worn on multiple occasions or easily paired with different accessories. This way, you'll get more value out of your purchase.
Consider Emerging Designers
Keep an eye on emerging designers who may offer high-quality dresses at more affordable prices compared to established luxury brands.
Negotiate and Ask for Discounts
When shopping in boutiques or smaller stores, don't be afraid to negotiate or ask for discounts. Sometimes, retailers are willing to offer a better deal to make a sale.
Quality Over Quantity
Instead of buying numerous inexpensive dresses, focus on investing in a few high-quality designer dresses that you genuinely love and will wear often. This approach can save you money in the long run.
Attend Fashion Swap Events
Swap events are a fun way to refresh your wardrobe without spending money. You can exchange dresses you no longer wear for pre-loved designer dresses.
Shop Abroad
If you have the opportunity to travel, consider shopping for designer dresses abroad. You may find unique pieces or lower prices, especially in countries known for fashion.
Wait for Major Sales Events
Plan your shopping around major sales events like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or end-of-season clearance sales. These events often come with substantial discounts.
Check the Return Policy
Before making a purchase, familiarize yourself with the store's return policy. It ensures you have the option to return or exchange the dress if it doesn't meet your expectations.
Care for Your Dresses
Properly care for your designer dresses to ensure they last longer. Follow the care instructions on the label to maintain their quality and value.
In conclusion,
The process to find and buy designer dress is achievable with careful planning and smart shopping. By following these tips and tricks, you can add stylish designer pieces to your wardrobe without emptying your wallet. Remember that patience and persistence are essential when searching for the best deals and steals in the fashion world. Happy shopping!
