Endless knowledge, endless power, and yet Hastur always found himself to be confused by you. So tiny, so frail against his mighty form, one that you had grown close to despite the knowledge he had feasted on mortals, feasted on the innocent and guilty alike, yet you always sought comfort in his endless robes.

“For what does my most devote follower need?” He asked one day as he felt your presence against the back of his robe, feeling the way your arms came to wrap around the vast colours of soiled yellows and whites of his sins, your face pressed against the fabric that smelt of the sea. When you did not reply, he allowed his body to shift ever so slightly to look down at you, seeing the way your hands trembled and shook. Though his form of slightly involved his body contorting in inhuman ways, his spine audibly growing and shaping in order to allow him to commit the impossible.

Like a rabbit or sheep ready for the dinner table, your soul smelled divine to him as the two of you stood in the manor’s library.

“I cannot aid you unless you speak up, mouse.” His hand came to cup itself under your chin, raising your face away from his clothes, tentacles appearing from the abyss to slowly stroke at your legs. “Ah, have you been crying, little one?” He muttered, his thumb coming to caress your cheek. “I can smell your sadness,” he muttered softly, even if his voice may boom like the mountains in your mind, “who did this to you?” To make a devotee cry, to sadden the one thing that did not fear him besides the snake wrench that wandered the halls, it was a notch on his soul, one that fanned the embers of rage that constantly welled in his heart.

“No one…” You finally muttered, your words soft and meek in reply, “the world is just too loud, lord.”

“Too loud?” he questioned as you buried your face back into his robes, escaping the merciful touch of the Lord in Yellow as you weeped. “What thing do I have to silence to bring you peace?” For you, he would send any animal, person, god to the abyss, to the eternal silence and madness that was where he crept, but yet your fingers clenched tighter on his cloak and he knew all at once something that made his soul ache and burn.

This was not something he could squash with the weight of madness. He could not even grasp it in his feeble hands. “Talk to me, dear mouse. What is it that makes you cry so?” As you began to talk about the sound of the wind in the trees, the texture of food you dislike, the feeling of cuts and bruises on your skin that would not fade; it all overwhelmed you so, caused for your mind to whirl and your senses to increase.

“Stay for as long as you need, mouse.”

Wrapping the edges of his coat around your shoulders, he did not let you leave until your heaves softened and your eyes dried, you were his most devoted follower after all.

I just want to use this post to talk about how much I appreciate the way Good Omens does gender. Angels/demons canonically don’t have sexes and don’t subscribe to the concept of gender at all. Throughout the show, we see lots of angels and demons varying gender presentation and it’s considered perfectly normal. Even with all the rules angels/demons have to follow to avoid getting into trouble with their respective sides, there’s never been any rules whatsoever regarding gender. Angels and demons exist, they have names, they dress how they want, and whatever humans think is irrelevant. As someone who is non-binary and agender, it warms my heart to think of an existence where gender isn’t limiting at all. I’m really grateful to Neil and Terry for making a story about existing beyond gender that has had such widespread impact.

And regarding how they interact with humans, on the show we’ve seen a variety of pronouns but what I find interesting is the characters use only one at a time. Gabriel is always he, Beelzebub and Muriel are they, Shax is she, Aziraphale and Crowley are mostly he. And Neil said in an ask reply that any pronouns you use for angels/demons aren’t wrong because to do it right, you need to know the tongue of the angels. I guess it’s sort of my headcannon that when they talk about each other, angels/demons instinctively translate into whatever human pronoun they want to use. Like they could never misgender each other because human language is too limited anyway and they’re just using it as best they can. Idk I just really appreciate seeing a race of beings that innately understand each other’s gender/identity and have absolutely no concept of judgement about it.

I had trouble sleeping last night so I kept thinking about an Aziracrow Hercules inspired AU

Per usual I bulleted every though I have underneath:

Mostly taking beats from the disney version (with a dash of the TV series for anyone who remembers)

Angels are the Gods on Olympus, not really using the royal caste system but those like Gabriel and the Metatron are higher beings with larger titles

Demons live/work in Hades and go on Earth to make deals with humans to create servants they can use

Aziraphale is the first god "born" in eons and therefore the youngest, he is taken care of by his nanny Muriel

Lucifer meanwhile at the same time receives a vision from his advisor Beelzebub that the young god will grow to be strong enough to defeat him and bring balance to the gods, demons, and earth (spoiler: Luci doesn't want this lol)

Sends his minions Hastur and Ligur to kidnap and remove the god-essence from the little one before taking care of him (plot plot they fail to remove ALL the essence so he looks normal but has his super strength still)

Tiny vulnerable baby Azi is found by Nina and Maggie, a sweet childless couple who raise him as their own

Fast forward: Azi learns of his origins from nanny Muriel, trains for years to be a hero to prove himself, soon is ready to start his journey

Runs into seemingly human damsel Crowley (gender fluid in this version/doesn't mind any pronouns), rescues, and is immediately smitten by them

Crowley meanwhile is only a pawn, using a disguise provided by demons to hide their true Gorgon form

This was a curse put on them as a human servant to the temple of the Metatron, she was found in the arms of a favorite priest and, though it was against her will when it happened, was made to be a monster who's eyesight would turn anyone who sees them into stone

blah blah plot plot out of despair he signs a contract with Lucifer to be a lure on land and especially given the important job of watching out for/bringing down Aziraphale

Has a hard time trusting Gods, Azi is no different in Crowley's eyes at first

plot plot Azi is a hero but not a TRUE hero yet

Goes on a date with Crowley, who realizes he's in love but Hastur so rudely reminds her she's a servant, one who has proven to be useful now

Demons use Crowley to get Aziraphale to give up strength

Azi is heartbroken to learn he was lied to but still loves Crowley enough to save them (after the latter push them aside like in the movie)

Azi brings balance to the world through love/being a real hero (plot plot) and goes to save Crowley's soul in Hades

Azi is offered a place in Olympus as a god, but turns it down and asks to be with his Crowley

Also either 1) Crowley is turned human again either as a reward for being a hero or on Aziraphale's request they are given the form that makes them most happy or 2) Crowley is still a Gorgon and either we don't worry about it or Azi is just immune as a final gift from the Gods

Good Omens - How they look at you || preference

Warning: Fluff, eye contact, conversations, nothing crazy or odd haha

Good Omens characters x reader (gender fluid)

Aziraphale -

He is a very sweet Angel and would listen intently, very similar to Michael Sheen himself, he would tend to stare at your lips more then your eyes as he likes to take in every single word to leave your mouth. His eyes would gaze you up and down as he likes to see every detail on you.

Crowley -

Most of the time due to Crowley’s glasses, you wouldn’t even notice what they are looking at, but she would definitely be staring at you with a calm stare, listening well. Even when you weren’t speaking to him, he’d glance at you and listen, sometimes a soft smile on their lips.

Gabriel/Jim -

Gabriel would never stare you in the eyes as he is higher ranked than you, however Jim would be super sweet and lock eyes with you obvious if it is making you flustered, he would listen well and nod with everything you say, even when you’re taking to others, he would glance at you with his big smile.

Beelzebub -

They usually find eye contact a weird and odd thing that makes them extremely uncomfortable, but they love to look at you as you speak or do your own thing and not look at their direction as they can finally look at you without getting nervous.

Newton -

He would do everything in his power to gain eye contact with you whenever you’re together, but being the awkward and shy bean he is, he may panic and go onto some rant about something embarrassing he did and instantly regret saying it as you just laugh it off and continue to chat.

Anathema -

She doesn’t really care at all about whether it makes people uncomfortable as eye contact would be completely normal to her even if it makes you flustered, she is very confident and wouldn’t notice just keeping the eye contact all the time and listening, looking at all the details on your face, even if you aren’t looking at her.

Nina -

Nina wouldn’t really be one for eye contact and it would make her slightly shy and awkward. Secretly liking it on the inside though. So her eyes would be looking down and peaking up when you glance around/away from her eyes, smiling when she can look at you with confidence.

Maggie -

She would give you the sweetest and most bubbly stare ever. Big soft eyes full of love as she stares at you, adoring you as you speak about everything you love and hate, taking in mental notes of it all. Flashing you many smiles as a way to show she’s listening to you still.

Hastur -

He would start off questioning you on everything and finding you odd, but slowly getting a small smile whenever you both chat and realising you aren’t as bad as he thought you might have been. His eyes would definitely explore your body language constantly.

Muriel -

They’re literally a little soft Angel who just wants to learn about Earth and humans. So they would adore listening to you all the time and hearing your stories, having a huge smile and glistening eyes as you teach them things they never knew about.

Crowley was already a Duke of Hell in S1. It's in this Hastur scene...

I must admit I kind of always thought Crowley was one of the Dukes of Hell. At least in the modern era. This scene with Hastur in S1 really makes no sense unless Crowley is one.

In order to stall Hastur this long, Crowley would have to be high up in Hell-- a Duke of Hell-- for this whole scene to make any sense. This would also make sense since we've seen that, in the last few decades, Crowley has gained quite a bit of power in Hell. He leads presentations/a group training in the '70s. He receives commendations for outstanding job performance, largely for claiming credit on such things as the Spanish Inquisition and WW2. Being powerful enough to get away with some things and have the freedom to stay on Earth for as long as he wants but not being the Grand Duke of Hell and so having to deal with bureaucracy and interfacing with Heaven is kind of the best possible deal Crowley could work out for himself in Hell and he has over the last few decades before he becomes persona non grata after the end of S1.

This scene tells us that the Lords of Hell and Dukes of Hell are the same thing. There's one at the top-- Grand Duke of Hell, which was Beez through the end of S2. (That's the position she tells Shax she could try to be with Beez now gone & leaving a power vacuum in her wake.) "Lord" is a title in Hell that is equally applicable to anyone of any gender. Those in Hell referred to Beez as "Lord Beezelbub" because they were the one in charge but if, say, Shax were to become Grand Duke of Hell (which is so not happening lol), she would be referred to as "Lord Shax", even though Shax identifies as female to the extent that the supernatural beings do gender here and uses she/her pronouns. I would presume that because Crowley here, when trying to convince Hastur that he's been promoted to Duke of Hell, refers to him as "Duke Hastur", that any Duke of Hell is referred to like that so, technically, Crowley has been "Duke Crowley" for quite awhile now.

Death, the Witch and the Devil are gender selectable, Hastur and He Without Name are the only men being added as ROs, while Peisinoe is a non-binary RO.

There’s also a secret romance option that will be added later, and she’s a woman, but that’s all I can say at this point 😌

For fanfiction purposes, how would you write transfem yellow? I’ve thought of writing a fic for this hc but like I have no idea how to approach it. I think that narratively and character wise he would see it (the transition to femininity) as pure rebellion, due to both the king and the cast being masculine/male dominated. Just curious.

You're so right about how the rebellion aspect would absolutely fit Yellow! It could work really well with him rejecting the masculinity of John/Hastur and saying things like "I am not the King in Yellow, I am the Queen of myself", trying to forge his own unique identity separate of the masculine expectations others have place on him.

Honestly, considering Yellow's curiosity for human life, I feel like it would be cool for the first moments of gender realization to come from humanity somehow! Like Arthur could be talking to a woman and Yellow could show interest in her lifestyle, or Yellow could notice the hairpin or the skirt/dress of a woman passing by and latch onto that gender expression. And then his exploration of identity could mix with an exploration of humanity, and how his identity/gender fits into the world? And he starts aligning himself with humanity (and womanhood specifically), separating himself from Arthur and rebelling even more against masculinity? (idk just throwing an idea out there, you can take it or leave it either way lol)
