Gale smooths a hand down the front of his white shirt, then tugs his trousers a little higher up to make sure they sit right on his hips. He put some calming music on to ease his nerves but a part of him remains jittery because he knows Georgia and Neil are going to take photos of him and Bucky downstairs. He really doesn’t want to pose, he sucks at it.

Staring at his reflection in his closet door mirror, he sighs and ties his long hair up in a neat bun. He can’t believe it's prom already. His last high school dance. A sad, melancholic feeling aches in his chest when he thinks about it, but there’s some excitement behind it too. Soon, he won't have to depend on anyone or to fulfill their expectations - he’ll be able to do whatever he wants and take his life in whichever direction he chooses. He’ll be free.

He glances at the black tux draped over his bed. His mom bought it for him. His mom. She asked Gale to spend a Saturday with her and they went to the mall where they ended up buying it. Then she took him home - back to Bucky's place - gave him an awkward hug and asked him to send her a picture if he decided to wear it. Gale spent the rest of that evening crying in his room. He still wants to cry whenever he looks at it. But he wants to wear it nevertheless. He's used to the pain of knowing what parental love is but never getting enough of it. You treasure what you can.

He reaches for the jacket, but before he could put it on, the door of his room creaks open. He doesn’t even have to look to know that it's Bucky - he’s the only one who never knocks unless he’s locked out. He whistles when he catches sight of Gale and grins at him in the mirror. Gale gives him a small, amused smile and slips his jacket on.

"Well, hello there." Bucky purrs at him and wraps his arms around his waist.

Gale turns around in his embrace and raises his eyebrows at him. "General Kenobi!"

As expected, Bucky guffaws like an idiot at the joke. He always does when Gale quotes one of his dumb memes back at him.

"You look gorgeous." He says once he stops laughing. His eyes glittering half-moons, squinting at Gale in joy.

"Hm-m." Gale hums and drops his gaze to the floor.

There’s a beat of silence, then Bucky drops a kiss to the corner of his mouth as if to say, come on, don't be sad, let’s have fun. Gale turns his head to press their lips together properly, and by the time he pulls away, they’re both smiling. He doesn’t want Bucky to prod at him to say what's wrong, so he looks for a distraction, and his eyes land on the ends of Bucky’s tie hanging undone over his chest.

"Do you need a hand?" He asks, tugging on the silky fabric.

Bucky rubs the back of his head. "Yeah. I didn’t wanna ask Mom. God, can you even imagine?"

Gale makes a contemplative sound and starts working on the knot. He learnt it from his grandpa when he was still alive. He used to spend long weeks every summer with the old man. But Bucky, of course, never had much male influence in his life, and Gale doesn’t think he was ever super close to his grandparents, so it shouldn't be a surprise that he still hasn't learned how to do this.

"You could have asked Neil." Gale says as he adjusts the knot until it sits perfectly on Bucky’s collar.

Bucky doesn’t reply anything to that, which is odd enough from him that Gale looks up. Bucky's sad puppy eyes stare back at him for a moment before Bucky blinks whatever emotion he felt away and holds up a hand.

"May I have this dance?"

Gale crosses his arms and gives him an unimpressed look. He has a good guess what the hell that silence meant. Bucky's feeling clingy again. That’s why he came to Gale and not to Neil, isn't, that's why he’s right here flirting when they're literally about to leave to do this the whole night. But it makes sense if Gale looks at it from Bucky's paranoid eyes - another milestone gone, another step closer to their dreaded college decisions and the separation Bucky fears.

Gale thinks about calling him out on it. He considers giving in to the tinge of annoyance he feels, but he lets it go. Exhales it through a small smile. Tonight is for fun and love, not fights.

He takes the hand offered, and finds himself being spun immediately. It makes him laugh.

"What are you doing?"

Bucky grins at him and tugs him close, swaying with him in a clumsy slow dance through the room to the music coming from Gale’s phone. He squeezes Gale’s waist with his right hand. "Warming up. We'll have to make an impression on the dance floor, baby."

"You can go make an impression with Curt while I hang out with the rest of the guys."

"I can’t dance with Curt, he knows he’s gonna be Prom King and won't shut up about it."

"Always such a jealous boy, Bucky." Gale tuts and surprises Bucky by pushing back and spinning him in turn. It makes Bucky grin so wide that Gale can barely see the blues of his eyes.

"I'm not jealous." Bucky chuckles and loops both of Gale's arms around his neck to hold him even closer. They rock side to side together. It feels nice enough that Gale wishes they did it more often. "I made a deal with him. If he wins, he’ll adopt you. Then I can call you princess and you can’t protest."

For a moment, Gale just looks at Bucky and feels a rush of fondness bubble through his veins at the sheer ridiculousness of it. Then he bursts into a laugh. "All right." He finds himself nodding despite his better judgment. "I'll be your princess tonight."

"Yeah?" Bucky's smile wavers in his surprise, as if he thought he'd only tease and flirt, not that Gale would go along with it. But Gale feels good now. The nervousness is gone. He feels free.

He tips his head up to rub his nose to Bucky's. "For one night." He smirks and kisses Bucky's mouth.

Barb has the tough-guy vibe but as soon as Viva gets flirty with she is putty in her hands. Viva well and truly knows this, she loves to tease her and watch her get annoyed (They both know she's not really annoyed)

Barb has a few commitment issues, she struggles to see why someone would just like her after only meeting her mere seconds ago, Viva is always there for Barb, even if she doesn't realise it.

Their first kiss is totally that one "first kiss meme" (I'll find the image somewhere) Barb is the one who hasn't kissed anyone ever and Viva is totally the one expecting a kiss with tongue.

Barb loves taking Viva to concerts, they dance the whole night together and then sleep at whoever's place is closest, which is usually Barb's.

Viva loves to braid Barb's hair and Barb taught herself how to braid so she could do Viva's hair. It took her a while and she nearly ripped her hair out in the process but it was worth it for her girlfriend.

Barb is way more lovey-dovey than she seems to be, she's actually the sweetest girlfriend. She'll buy Viva her favourite flowers all the time and will play her favourite songs on her guitar, even if they're trashy pop songs. She does it because she loves to see Viva smile.

Viva's smile can brighten Barb's whole day and it reminds her that she has people who actually love her, with no conditions attached

Likewise, Viva absolutely adores seeing Barb's smile, especially if she's the one causing her smile.

I don’t think I’ve read it enough to have a sense of something like this. I really disliked Laurie’s scenes with Adrian though. So it’s not so much ‘he wouldn’t say that’ as ‘I would prefer to ignore the fact that he said/did that.'

2. Did they kiss in the study? Yes/no + why you are 100% correct about this.

I think they did. The first time I read it, I didn't really wonder if something had happened, only what had happened: I didn’t know if they’d only kissed or done anything more. Later, it seemed to be confirmed by Ralph’s letter that they’d not done ‘anything more,’ I just assumed it was a kiss, and I don’t really think the dialogue following the ellipses makes much sense without anything having happened. “Now you see what I mean, Spud. It would never have done, would it? Well, goodbye.” What could Laurie have seen if there was nothing besides a hug or handshake or something? What would never have done? Why ask him to ‘come here’ at all?

Straike, I hate him with a fiery passion. The man had a dog put down, not because he was sick or anything but simply because he couldn’t be bothered to care for him. Vicar? Ridiculous.

9. You can break the fourth wall (at any point in the novel) and say a single sentence to our protagonist, Laurie Odell. What do you say?

'This is not Ancient Greece, stop being weird,' at the exact moment Andrew is telling him his traumatic life-story and Laurie is preoccupied worrying about Dave. Also related to the question, but not really asked for: if I could I’d also tell Andrew he doesn’t have to feel ashamed of how he feels about Laurie. Well, more accurately, I’d give him a modern copy of ‘Quaker Faith & Practice’ and have the relevant passages highlighted, so I know he won’t miss them. It makes me very sad for both Andrew and Dave that their whole lives could've been very different (and much happier) if they were born four or five generations later.

9. What's a question you have about TC? One you haven't found an answer for yet.

I can't think of any, besides wondering how Mary Renault could've written it because it's so good. I love the use of subtext, the way she describes emotions you've felt before but never would've been able to put into words on your own. In terms of characters and story, I do have a random question about Bunny: was it supposed to be implied that he was a perpetrator of sexual assault? I got that idea when I was reading the car scene between him and Laurie but I was unsure.

Okay so short answer: it's a very cursed fanfiction that became an inside joke in my irl friend group :D

Long, very infodump-y answer: A large chunk of my irl friend group (@eztliiiii, @retsameki, and I are the ones on tumblr, my gf and the OG malevolent stan respectively) are obsessed (hyperfixated, to tell the truth) on this one horror-ish podcast called Malevolent, made entirely by Harlan Guthrie alone (it's really fucking good, check it out-) and the main concept is that this guy, Arthur Lester, is possessed by this voice in his head who eventually names himself John, and John has control of Arthur's eyes, and they go on mystery horror solving adventures as reluctant allies, except they're 100% queer for each other. Ez says they're aroace, which yes, but also if John had a body they'd kiss. anyway i digress- so John is slowly possessing pieces of arthur in the podcast, and one day while ez was scrolling ao3 looking for very normal fanfic.... xe stumbled on... this.

Anyway it's become a Thing in our friend group, we all recorded audio recordings of us reading out the tags, we have a whole discord channel dedicated to it, lots of things. We all regularly bring it out to <j> traumatise </j> ez, and it's generally really funny.

SaL anon here bestie, currently cheering, laughing, and digging in for what looks like an amazing season. You know there are a lot of ways they could have told the story of Buck realizing he's bi, but by far they went for the most hilarious and ridiculous route and I a HERE for this kind of nonsense. ABC seriously said "Okay, Buck's gonna get really jealous of Eddie's new guy friend...who he spends more time with than his girlfriend who Buck isn't jealous of (and who hasn't spoken in 4 episodes and is known for being the babysitter when Eddie needs to spend time with his new guy friend). Buck will go to ridiculous lengths to get Eddie's attention, including loudly clanking around the gym while sweaty and playing a sport he hates, while sweaty. But then, get this, the new friend will confront Buck and Buck will conclude for some reason THAT'S the person whose attention he wanted, something even the new friend doesn't believe, but he kisses him anyway. How funny would that be." ABC, and Tim specifically, you are not fooling anyone about where this is going.

Seriously I'm so happy, even if Buck's first kiss wasn't Eddie. Tommy isn't going to be around long it seems (especially if he has any sense of self preservation) and maybe Marisol will be lucky to get a full sentence in before she's out the door the way they're going. But I think this is the best way to tell this particular self discovery story, not in an overly angsty, stressful way but in a fun way that's over the top. I'm happy about the way they did it, and am definitely curious about how they will develop Buck through the season. Let's buckle in my friend, we're finally getting some good soup 🎉🎉🥂🥂!!!

My friend, I am still giddy over how much fun I had all around with that episode! Maddie and Chim were in peak Sassy Sibling mood with Buck, we even got some Mom-Mode Activated Maddie, we got silly call shenanigans, we got a heartbreaking call, we got some Grant family drama bringing up stuff from the past, we got happy smiling Eddie, we got sass-master Ravi, AND we got kicked-puppy pouty faced Buck begging Eddie to pay attention to him all episode and still somehow coming up with the wrong answer to his jealousy question 🤣 Epitome of that "the risk I took was calculated but MAN am I bad at math" meme. I love him.

I was reserving my judgment to see how this was going to play out, but so far, I am not hating it! It really does feel like Tommy Knows What's Up, but he gets to kiss Buck out of it, so why not? and while I don't ship them, the kiss was REALLY soft and sweet and Buck is being pursued for once so like, I'm willing to see how Tommy moves Buck's story forward. It definitely gave me the vibes that this is going to be the thing that helps push Buck to his "oh" moment about Eddie (hopefully with an accompanying montage to shut up the "this came out of nowhere" people 🙄). I'm typically not on the "this character needs to date around and use other people to be "ready" for the relationship they ACTUALLY want" train, but so far this storyline was handled well. Like, it's SO clearly about Eddie but also it's SO clear Buck has not connected those dots yet but Tommy HAS. So it's not like Buck *knows* and is stringing Tommy along waiting for Eddie to be single. It has the potential to be a sweet, fun, joyous experience for Buck without ever undercutting his relationship with Eddie because again, Tommy sure seemed to know whose attention Buck was REALLY looking for. For now, I'm on board to see how the ride plays out! And with Tim being better at keeping the stories focused on the mains, I think we are going to get some REALLY good Buck moments with his family around all this, while Tommy does the job of a side character and moves the story along.

I am cryyyying though at the way Eddie's girlfriends have never even registered for Buck because at no point did they interfere with his time with Eddie and Chris, but Eddie spends time with ONE (1) dude, and Buck is just BESIDE himself about it. Poetic. Baby boy you are sooooo close to a realization! Also, not the synopsis calling out Eddie reevaluating his relationship the second Buck gets into one 🤣🤣🤣 Boys you are NOT subtle.

We are being FED and I am strapped in for the ride! Lets goooooo! The joy and heart and soul of the show has been restored and it feels sooo good!

Canon-wise, I don't ship Morty with anyone, tbh. I do keep the crushes he has in my portrayal, but I don't care for any of them. No it even Jessica or his nameless girlfriend from the Vat of Acid episode.

All the ships I have for Morty have been developed through RP interactions and they all have taken some time to develop, which is something I love, because I'm a sucker for slow burns. And well, some are still on their way to develop, so they aren't actual ships yet.

Morty & Morty with @advnterccs: they are currently my OTP for Morty. I loved the way Rin and I built their relationship from best friends to mutual pining to crushes who have kissed each other but aren't together, to the moment they actually got together x'D Speaking of that, they had their first anniversary last New Year's Eve and damn, that's one of the longest ships I've ever had xD

Morty & Meg with @shctupmeg: they are sort of dating, but not official yet. I find it funny, because Meg had a crush on Morty all along, while he considered her just a dear friend. Tho, the moment she started to look elsewhere, he realised that maybe he did like her back that way x'D They had their ups and downs, but I think their relationship is maturing just right!

Morty & Fish with @imprvdente: Chloé and I had sort of started it with the idea that Morty and Fish would be BFF, but both our dumbasses ended up catching feelings xD This is another funny situation, because it's mutual pinning while they are both convinced that the other doesn't like them back. Will they ever get their shit together? Good question!

Morty & Marsha with @mnstcrsiiistcrs: Marsha sort of categorises as one of Morty's crushes. Cute, smart girl who gives him a smidgen of attention? Ofc he's gonna crush on her. There hasn't been any real ship talk, so for now I'm going to keep it as one-sided crush. Which is pretty much very IC for Morty xD

I don't have a 5th ship, because these four are the relationships I have for my Morty and who have taken a romantic turn, more or less. I guess the last mention could be Morty & Meg & Morty, since I have a polyship with Rin and Allie (which I adore with all my heart).

Tbh, I'd love for Morty to get another boyfriend. With Rin's Morty I wasn't able to delve into it, because we had the whole 'me from another timeline' thing to deal with and because out Mortys kind of saw our Ricks getting together and that gave them the epiphany they needed, but I want my Morty to experience bi panic the moment he realises that oh shit, he likes boys too xD

THE HUMMING SOUND of early spring rains fades away as the minimal pouring comes to an end. The clouds polarize, almost losing their cotton-white look as they move apart, and the atmosphere bathes everything in deep relentless blue. It's the last few mintutes of sunset, and looking at the skies is almost overwhelming to the eyes. Two bright dots appear parallel to one another, suspended in an otherworldly dance, far away. Shou recognizes them as planets, but he isn't sure which ones, his knowledge quite limited, he vaguely recalls one being Jupiter. 

They're beautiful, for sure, a rare and breathtaking little thing that deserves tiring his neck to look up and admire the view, but they're so easily rivaled. Now don't get him wrong, stars and planets and a big, bright full moon were some of his best companions, their inspirational presence a constant theme for his creativity and every other good thing that came along, every other beautiful thing that came along, and felt like it doesn't belong in his hands. 

But these hands hold onto another's, and it doesn't feel wrong to be a safe place, to help take care of something precious. As the angles change and the point of view shifts, there he is, right here on earth, centering his vision and all of his thoughts, the star of his night wearing a heartthrob smile. And Shou believes is probably staring like he's never seen a human before in his damn life. He'd have felt pretty dumb for it if he were a little more self-aware, would've fussed and whined over his own embarrassment, but right now all he wanted to do was capture that smile and kiss it senseless.

It's a little selfish, a little stupid, considering he also wants to listen to Daisuke, and talk to him, and make him laugh ... and all these things and many other things couldn't go together at once. When has he gotten so greedy ? The idea is almost funny, how much he wants and how much he wants to give and how simple it all is ; how easy it is on his heart to love and be loved. But above anything, above all else, there is the profound desire to protect what he has, and the means to this end - to keep anyone safe - might not be as simple as the rest of his wishes.

What wouldn't I do to keep you safe ? 

It's rare that he worries about such things, if ever. And to speak of them out loud was a whole different matter, but he talks anyway, when the need to overwhelms him at the end, then he's an open book in ways he's never been to anyone else, mistrust and a deeply rooted, well-hidden sense of discomfort always standing between himself and finding a safe place. But Daisuke wouldn't dismiss him, wouldn't consider the topics at hand then look at him like he's grown a third head, wouldn't think that's it's odd or strange and ask him if he fell and hit his head when he was little or something. None of that, he shakes his head, none of that.

The warmth of reassurance cuts through him like a knife through butter, curls pleasantly in his stomach and glows shyly in his cheeks. He turns and allows his face to be ambushed by the dense bristles of Daisuke's hair, smiling easily into it. His heart swells with trust offered on a plate of gold, and in his chest there is the sting of something blooming ; confidence that thrives on the edges of his limits and how they're not particularly easy to reach. Of course I'd keep you safe. Yet it feels false, knowing a promise of guarding from someone like him -bloody knuckles and cold eyes- is a promise of violence and apathetic cruelty, both of which hasn't yet been truly tested for their capability, for how far he'd go to achieve something he wants.

Even then, if worse comes to worst, if anyone as much as tries and plucks a feather from these wings that allowed Daisuke to soar and be free, defying the gravity of the dull laws and tedious lives Shou still couldn't accept-  if anything were to ever intend to harm him-  the esper's lips land a kiss on top of the thief's head, grateful and smitten, and he can only hope that Daisuke would forgive him.

hello hello! here is a bit about, like, the brady and quinn of it all:

they are still high school/program besties. quinn still lives in the tkachuk basement and then spends most of his time hanging out with brady anyway

the year before they go off to college, when the hormones are at maximum hormone, quinn gets something spilled on his sweatshirt and borrows one of brady's to wear for the night and seeing quinn walk around in HIS sweatshirt that is a size too large, smelling like HIM, absolutely serves as a sexual awakening moment for brady.

Kagami would want to but he would be too embarrassed that others would see it. Kuroko might have a funny picture like Kagami with tiger ears or something that isn't obviously romantic and can be interpreted as merely an attempt to torment Kagami should someone see it.

There's no way Kuroko wouldn't at least once leave a horror movie style note at a time Kagami was in the shower and unaware Kuroko was in his apartment. However, Kagami would realise it was Kuroko in about three seconds. Kagami would be the one to leave a cheesy note or two at a point in the future when he gets over himself.

Who buys the other cheesy gifts

Kagami would more easily slip into a truly cheesy gift realm when he's not self-conscious and gets all up in his feelings. Kuroko would be more aware of where the line goes, and more intentional about nuance and connotations so he would never be as cheesy as Kagami is at his worst. But most of the time Kagami is just sweet, though. I always loved the idea of him giving Kuroko a safety reflector that read "stay visible".

Kuroko. (I kind of drew it already.) He wouldn't have done it if Kagami hadn't been obviously about to confess and then suddenly change his mind, leaving Kuroko too frustrated to let the moment pass.

It's hard to pin down their first date since they were already spending most of their time together as friends who slowly grew towards dating, but they were both nervous and shy ever since they began to realise their relationship was changing.

Kuroko just lets them live in the house, after all they take care of far more annoying bugs. Unless there's someone around who can't handle seeing a spider, in which case he would take it out. Kagami wouldn't really care either I think, except when he's in a mood and everything gets on his nerves, then he would just step on them out of irritation. But then he would feel bad later and next time he would take the spider out, until he got too irritated again.
