on the topic of pygmalion, the version i heard was that our boy Pyg was a sculptor who all the single women on the island wanted to marry him to the point that Aphrodite came down and was like 'hey you need to marry a woman' and he cunningly suggests that he will as soon as he can finish a sculpture using her as his model (thinking she'll say no because she's busy with goddess stuff). She says yes and then he proceeds to sculpt as slowly as he possibly can but eventually finishes because you can't just keep carving into marble forever if you want a life-size statue because you'll wear it down to a nub. She says ok time to pick a wife and in his final cunning move he says the only woman he's ever loved is this statue, so she turns it into a real person

the version on wikipedia is different but it still has that air of "oh i'm totally heterosexual, I have a crush on [platonic ideal of a woman that he'll never have to interact with for real]! it's just that all the women i know irl are unappealing to me" which is a common thread when gay and ace people reminisce about lying to their het classmates in middle school (except the platonic ideal is whoever is a current popular celebrity of the correct gender, rather than a statue like pygmalion chose)

so yeah i love pygmalion but i'm still squicked out by the "born sexy yesterday" trope and loathe the "man literally creates a woman and then has sex with her" trope even tho those are all clearly indirectly influenced by the pygmalion myth

Young Avengers; Young Avengers Special; Young Avengers Presents: Wiccan & Speed-- introduces Billy Kaplan and Tommy Shepherd, who learn that they are Wanda's reincarnated sons and begin searching for her.

Avengers: Children's Crusade-- the Young Avengers, Magneto, and Quicksilver discover Wanda as an amnesiac living in the care of Doctor Doom. They help her recover her memories and her powers are returned to normal.

Avengers vs. X-Men-- Wanda rejoins the Avengers. Alongside Hope Summers, Wanda helps banish the Phoenix from Earth and causes a proliferation of new mutant to manifest, the first step in her redemption for M-Day.

AXIS-- Wanda & Pietro learn that Magneto is not their father after all, and they're not actually mutants.

Uncanny Avengers Vol 2 (miniseries)-- the twins learn that their powers are the result of the High Evolutionary's genetic experiments.

Scarlet Witch (2016)-- Wanda returns to her magical focus and has henceforth been written as an adept spellcaster. The series does a lot of worldbuilding around witches and witchcraft. The twins learn that their birth mother was actually Django's sister, Natalya Maximoff, and that they are descended from a long line of Scarlet Witches.

Doctor Strange (2016)-- Wanda is featured in the Last Days of Magic storyline.

Uncanny Avengers Vol 3 #26-30-- Wanda rejoins the Avengers Unity Division and begins a relationship with Doctor Voodoo.

Avengers Vol 1 #675-690-- a crossover event titled Avengers: No Surrender.

Quicksilver: No Surrender-- an excellent miniseries following the previous event. Wanda and Jericho use magic to aid Pietro.

Avengers: No Road Home-- a sequel to No Surrender.

Strange Academy-- Wanda becomes a faculty member at a school for young magic users.

Darkhold (2021)-- the original Darkhold is discovered; Wanda's prior experiences have made her strong enough to handle it without corruption; she merges the Darkhold with her own soul and uses it to bind Chthon.

Trial of Magneto (2021)-- Wanda stages her own death as part of an elaborate scheme to gain access to, and magically enhance, the Krakoan resurrection system, leading to her final redemption for M-Day.

Scarlet Witch (2023)-- Wanda opens a metaphysical shop in upstate New York and constructs a magical portal called the Last Door, which opens anywhere in the world for those in need.

Avengers (2023)-- Wanda joins a new iteration of the Avengers, led by Captain Marvel.

Contest of Chaos-- a crossover event. Agatha attempts to create a new Darkhold, much is revealed about the origin and nature of chaos magic.

Let's talk Magneto's letter!

I'm not marking this as spoilers because we've probably all seen the panels from Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver floating around the internet at this point (but I do apologise if I do accidentally spoil it for someone - take this as your warning to scroll past and not read this post).

So after many months of speculation as to what the letter could be and if it has big reveals the contents of the letter is not a lore changing or retcon inducing reveal but .... Drum roll please.... that Magneto thinks the twins should stay apart, that they are dangerous together (particularly that Pietro is dangerous to Wanda and Wanda coddles Pietro) and that Pietro should have stayed dead after Magneto murdered him.

Jokes aside and let's get this out of the way because I know a lot of the Magneto is right crowd have been calling for Orlando's head over this character assassination or trying to argue Magneto is in fact right about the twins (despite the story and the twins themselves saying otherwise) - Magneto being an abusive douchbag to his kids is the norm, we only have 60 years of their relationship in the 616 verse alone to prove this. Yes there is nuance to this that makes it all very interesting, one of the most interesting dynamics in Marvel, and I personally never expected to hear Magneto saying the silent part out loud because I do think cannon shows that he loves all his kids Pietro included (but is incapable of loving them the way a parent should), but this is simply an over exaggeration and not out of character. Its no surprise he says this to his son. It's also of note that Magneto never actually intended for the twins to see the letter or Storm would have given it to Wanda when she visited in SW#2 to deliver the news of Magneto's passing, it might have been Magneto trying to work out some feelings and opinions rather than protect them as he claims (cause again he didn't actually intend for anyone to see the letter, he sealed it shut in a box). He is justified in feeling frustrated that his last words were weaponised against his children (lol Mags being like how dare my own hurtful words were used to hurt my kids - no one hurts them but me)

Magneto is one of those genderbended boymoms that is jealous of their daughter and views then as competition. Only in this case it is with his son and the competition is for Wanda's affections. The fact is, Magneto is always going to loose that fight and he knows it.

The more I think about it the more I like that this letter wasn't a big reveal (though I'm sure the recton everyone is hoping for will come some day -I'm glad it wasn't today) but something that played into the themes of this series. Their father, the Wizard and the Giver are all saying the twins should stay apart and the story and the twins say no and prove them wrong. A lot of the twins greatest feats are reactive and evolving, tying back to the red queen hypothesis mentioned in issue 4.

On a side note if the Giver really wanted to deal with the twins she should have gone to dear old daddy Mags and he would have nipped that problem in the bud in a jiffy seeing as he and the giver are of a like mind when it comes to the twins. Technically you just need to get rid of one of them seeing as the Givers worry is about the twins together but let's see what the new Scarlet Witch solo has to say about that (I hope Pietro's role in this isn't forgotten but you can never tell with Marvel)

What the letter is is a classic case of a narcissist parent setting up a golden child and scape goat dynamic. Seeking to isolate the twins from each other. It's very clear he's self projecting onto his son (and Lorenzo Tammetta deliberately emphasises the similaries the two have in appearance to drive this fact home) and blaming Pietro for moments that happened that can apply to himself and are in fact caused by his actions for example his willingness to abandon his daughter to die and murder of his son in HoM. Both the major trigger points for the creation of the HOM verse and no more mutants. I'm not saying Magneto is souly to blame here but he does have a big contribution to what happens that he never has taken accountability for (along with the X-Men who play as victims and the avengers who did own up to what they did but otherwise keep silent about the blame the twins get from the X-Men).

A lot has been said about the impact of the letter on Pietro and I don't think I can add much more other than to emphasise how crushing that has be to hear from a parent and abuser even if you hate them. The twins helped each other survive for a very long time and we're each others everything parent, twins, best friend, protector, etc. You've spent time and energy and dedicated a portion of your life to protecting someone to the degree of making it your reason for living for a long time (please note I am not saying this is a healthy mindset for Pietro- hes taken it too far sometimes) and in a hypocritical tyraid are told it's all for nothing. Pietro handles it really well and comes out this with his head held high. Reacting calmly, expressing his love for his sister and throwing Magneto's words back at him. I think as a Quicksilver fan we can be reasonably happy with this outcome (but I do understand some fans frustration to hear Quicksilver be degraded that way and told he's bad for Wanda while she gets forced to interact with men that did treat her like shit like Vision and Magneto - however the point is that Magneto is WRONG and Wanda herself reiterates this point).

Now the one person who's screwed over by the writing and out of character in that scene is WANDA. Sure she tells Magneto he is wrong but that gentle response (even if she does react with a degree of unhappiness to see Magneto back) and effort to be neutral is so odd for her given that she sent the Wizard to a hell dimension for hurting her brother a few pages prior and has been even more vocal than Pietro in calling her father out in the past. She's as protective of her brother as he is her and I can't believe she would be written as a daddies girl and standby while a man who abused them both continues to abuse her brother.

The contents of the letter is also not great for Wanda. And I would argue is a subtler abuse tactic. Like a lot of the focus is rightly on how shitty it was for Magneto to say what he did in his letter to Pietro but we're also not considering the the negative implications it has for Wanda as well. Wanda has been working to establish herself as independent and not defined by the men in her life for so long and here is her "father", infantalising her and saying he knows better than her about her own life and what keeps her safe, that is seeking to take away from her the one pillar of support she's always had and one of if not the important relationship to her, a lot of Wanda's lowest moments did happen when Pietro wasn't even around, when everyone including Magneto abandoned her, her brother was there. The twins do have a codependency and that codependency does have it's toxic elements, Magneto touches on it but doesn't go into detail. Wanda is codasended to and told she is "coddling" her brother and everything else is Pietro's fault. The letter is worse for Pietro but it's shitty for Wanda too, she is a grown woman& a mother here is a man that abused her talking down to her, saying he knows best for her and her opinions are wrong, seeking to isolate her and undermining her authority.

The twins are right for saying Magneto is wrong but wish Wanda would get more angry at this undermining. Maybe like Pietro she is just very jaded and tired of the whole thing with Magneto. These words would be upsetting if they didn't in their own way love their father too as fucked up as it all is.

Now to be fair - does Magneto's letter have any merit? That isn't to easy to answer but in the interests of equal analysis let's try!

So I think one think that Magneto touches on but doesn't go into or outright say is the twins codependancy. He is a few years late to the party but he's been dead and their not dad for a while so well give him a small amount of leeway in his old age. I don't think the twins codependency is necessary a wholly bad thing but it does have it's nagative elements and in some cases has held the twins back. If we are to adopt a charitable approach her Magneto in his own twisted and emotionally constipated way may be trying to encourage the twins to be independent, to discourage his son from defining his self worth around his ability to protect his sister. Ofc I am reaching a bit here as Magneto could have just said this (though we'll never see the full contents of the letter - both Wanda and Mags may be summerising the worst parts of it) and done so in a way that wasnt cruel.

I also do believe that Magneto in writing those words to a degree did believe or convinced himself that he was not writing those words out of Malice and that it was an attempt to protect the twins (though I will reiterate how much it was actually intended to protect them when Magneto didn't actually intend for the twins to see the letter but at least he owns up to the fact he did write those words). In his mind he was being cruel to be kind but the narrative makes it clear that even if he had "good" intentions - he is nevertheless still fundamentally misunderstanding his children and self projecting onto his son. I'm not mad about this -its in character and I feel this letter is set up for a longer plot thread and I hope it's explored but let's see!

It certainly makes me feel that Pietro's lack of mention in RoM was extremely deliberate as was his lack of appearance in last week's FoX issue despite his cameo in the previous one to save the Magneto and Pietro reunion for this comic (the Xoffice are collaborative)

Is the writing for this scene perfect? no! Is Magneto potentially a tad one note? Yes but being a dick to his kids is in character and it's unsubtle but sometimes it needs to be.

I know that you're my enemy (but I love you all the same) 👀👀👀👀

Ooh! That one was actually the first fic I ever posted on Ao3 (and is still technically in progress even though I haven't updated it in over a year 😬). It's for a 2009 cartoon called "Wolverine and the X-Men" that only got one season. In canon there was a Nightcrawler/Scarlet Witch star-crossed lovers thing going on, and since Nightcrawler is my favorite X-man I wanted to explore it more!

Summary: She couldn’t stop seeing the wonder in Kurt’s eyes when she’d taken him to the concert, or the joy at simply being able to walk outside. She couldn’t stop seeing the betrayal and disappointment in his eyes when he discovered the dark secrets beneath Genosha’s glittering facade. Now he had been returned to her. Now he was safe. But could he ever forgive her?

I don't know how familiar you are with common X-men storylines, but basically, Genosha is an island that Magneto nominally built as a sanctuary for mutants away from humans. Nightcrawler (aka Kurt) helped some other mutant refugees get there, then was offered the grand tour by Magneto's daughter (aka the Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda).

Kurt was a mutant who was born with extreme physical mutations (blue fur, solid yellow eyes, prehensile tail, a little bit like Quarry from TMNT 2003) that made it impossible to blend in with the general human population, so he grew up in a circus freakshow.

Genosha was really the first time he'd had the opportunity to just go out and be a normal person. So Kurt and Wanda were basically having fun and going on dates until he found out that Magneto was imprisoning anyone who caused trouble or disagreed with him—and that Wanda knew about it.

Kurt escaped back to the mainland (despite Wanda's best efforts) to try to warn the X-men, but he was intercepted, knocked unconscious, and brought back to Genosha to be imprisoned indefinitely, with Wanda as his jailor.

Kurt's presence forces Wanda to start reexamining her father's cause and his methods—to ask herself if the ends really do justify the means, and if the ends Magneto is working towards should be pursued at all. The part i'm chipping away at now is how Wanda's betrayal really reinforces Kurt's existing trust issues.

Wanda's trying to figure out if she's a person worthy of Kurt's love, and Kurt's grappling with the fact that he still cares for someone who hurt him so deeply, even though he tends to be "once bitten, twice shy".

My favorite part that I've posted so far actually doesn't have anything to do with Wanda and Kurt's relationship, but Wanda's relationship with her father and her twin brother Pietro, who has been banished to the mainland by Magneto to do his dirty work:

Unbidden, her thoughts turned to her brother Quicksilver. Pietro. It had been unthinkable, once, for him to be so far from her side. Some days, she still found herself turning to tell him a joke, or show him something that would make him laugh. It had been years since Father sent him to lead the Brotherhood, but the absence of him still ached. You mean years since Magneto cast him out , a traitorous thought whispered. She tried to tell herself that Father would call Pietro back soon. Maybe next year. Maybe after Trask and his Sentinels had been dealt with. Maybe after the X-men fell, or came to join them. Maybe… In her bones Wanda knew Father would never let him come home. Quicksilver had done too much of Magneto’s dirty work, still continued to do it in the desperate hope that this time, it will be enough. This time, he’ll be proud. This time, he’ll love me . But Genosha was a place for new beginnings. And Pietro — insolent, questioning, playful Pietro — didn’t fit his vision. Wanda couldn’t (wouldn’t) answer whether Magneto would go to war for [ordinary mutants], but she had known for a long time that he would never go to war for his son.

"Wolverine and the X-Men" sets up such an interesting situation with his three children. First there is Wanda, the Scarlet Witch, his loyal right hand and trusted general. Second (always second), there is Pietro, Quicksilver, his son who he sees as little more than a troublesome pawn. Then there is Lorna, Polaris, who is protected and sheltered and the only one treated like his actual child, probably because she is the only one who inherited Magneto's abilities. The different ways Magneto plays favorites with his kids makes me hate him so much more than the actual war crimes he commits.

My favorite part that I haven't posted yet would have to be this:

“Kurt, are you awake?” Wanda. Kurt didn’t even try to stop the animalistic hiss that crawled up his throat.  “Are you alright?!” He should have known better. He should have known better. No one could be trusted until proven otherwise, and kindness was always suspect. How many times did that lesson have to come back to bite him before he finally learned it? “...Kurt?” Nightcrawler unfolded himself from his perch on the wall and started pacing around his new cage. He dragged his nails along the walls to feel for any seams or imperfections, but even the grid lines of light were perfectly smooth with the metal around them.  The rasping screech his claws made on the metal set his teeth on edge, but it should make his feelings towards Wanda the Scarlet Witch abundantly clear.

Like, yeah Kurt will still be falling in love with her, but he's going to try to convince himself to hate her first.

Fatherhood for Magneto is complicated. I enjoy Fannon fluffy dadneto but it's important to remember that that is Fannon and it should probably stay that way unless the cannon makes this shift earned - which quite frankly it hasnt. I love Magneto as a character - he is genuinely one of the most fascinating and complex characters put to page ever and I understand people loving him. However Magneto got that popular for being a complicated morally grey. Character. The Magneto is right mindset gets taken to far sometimes and while funny in small doeses the girldad Magneto jokes while victim blaming and laughing and his abuse of Pietro and ignoring his abuse of the girls goes to far.

I will preface this by saying I do believe he loves his children or he genuinely believes that he does. However, Magneto had lived a very traumatic and difficult life, his experiences have changed him with the loss of his first child, Anya, the only one he got to hold as a baby and actually raise (not sure if we can count what Magneto did for the twins after talking them in as young teens raising exactly), ironically set him on the path to mutant supremecy (at the time) and ironically lead to him abusing his children. He loves them when they are fitting his ideals for them and he lashes out at them when they don't.

Magneto abused all his children. This is something that should not be ignored no matter how popular Magneto is as a character. Hes pimped them out, verbally abused them, hit them, blackmailed them, manipulated them, used them as batteries, tried to kill them, actually killed them and abandoned them to die.

The twins, Lorna and Magneto's relationships only work if they are blood related because why on earth would any of those kids want anything to do with Mags after all that. Yes there is strength in choosing to forgive your abuser but it also takes and Equal amount of strength of not more to cut them off, chose not to forgive them but to let go and move on. This is what the letter from Magneto does for Pietro in Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. This is what Pietro choses to do - let go of the anger. It's a different approach to his sister but a valid one and what Magneto says is exaggerated (maybe to take some onus off Wandas proclaimed petty decision to burn the letter and to justify Wanda a little) but not out of character. I think in that moment the two of them reach some sort of understanding and Pietro at least lets Magneto go from his life somewhat. Pietro recognises that what Magneto does is self projecting and this is in line with the self hating Magneto that is still present after RoM.

We see some development on Magnetos part as he reiterates what he believes (even though the twins and Wanda's last door show him to be wrong) but calmly and he lets his son go - whereas the Magneto of the past would have been screaming and threatening.

As for his relationships with his daughters I would be on bored of it was earned and the girls were allowed to maintain their personalities, their anger and their gripes. Magneto only reaches out when he gets his dream, when they are being good, he doesn't say sorry, doesn't have to struggle to make things right the comics instead have the girls reach out to him contrary to all their character development. Their is no mention of the past, a hashing out of feelings, it's very unearned but because Magneto is the most popular character and women are meant to be forgiving creatures that's what we get. Marvel just wants to profit off this family but not so the work or bring out what actually made the family dynamic popular.

In AUs things are different but we're talking about the 616 verse. We went from things not being good to Lorna and Wanda suddenly shifting to daddies girls and it's unsatisfying and insulting to the girls as characters. At least Pietro's abuse is acknowledged and he's allowed to work through it and have feelings on it. What about Lorna and Wanda?

I'm not saying the family has to be messy all the time but comics need to let the women be even in the dynamic and the reconciliations to come in an emotionally satisfying way. We need to acknowledge it's a complicated family dynamic with lots of history in which the patriarch has done wrong and maybe he isn't automatically entitled to enjoy his kids. At least not if that means undoing a lot of said kids character developments for the sake of bringing wholesome magnet fam into the main verse.

Gentle Magneto is adorable but let's not ignore the past!

Also let Magneto interact with his grandkids again if Pietro and Wanda (though her boys are adults so her say would be more limited) let him. Cause his uncomplicated adoration for his grandkids is so cute. The third generation of the magnet family is very underultised.

reading people comment on Magneto's fatherhood and how the writters be making him restore his relationship with both Lorna and Wanda but become like a mortal enemy to Pietro.

He is not like this. He loves all of his children dearly. Just let my man enjoy his kids for ONCE.

May 13th - Magneto

Known by many names, Erik Lehnsherr is a powerful Mutant who has been willing to go to any extreme to protect his species as Magneto, the master of magnetism.

Born in Nuremberg, Germany to a middle class Jewish family, Erik and his family fled to Warsaw during the rise of the third reich.  Erik was ultimately arrested and sent to the concentration camp in Auschwitz, Poland.  The young man witnessed and endured countless atrocities while imprisoned in Auschwitz  and was the only member of his extended family to survive this senseless holocaust.

Following the war, young Erik discovered he possess the abilities generate and control magnetic fields.  These powers came from Erik’s being a Mutant.  Furthermore, his abilities led to him being feared and hated by much of the human world.   I this coupled with his experiences during the holocaust caused Erik to entirely lose faith in mankind and he dedicated himself to creating a world in which Mutants would become the dominant species on Earth, lording over all inferior species.  To this end he renamed himself ‘Magneto’ and began to accrue loyal acolytes among likeminded Mutants.  

Seeking to subjugate humanity by brute force, Magneto found himself in direct conflict with his one time friend and ally, Professor Charles Xavier, as well as Xavier’s new team, the X-Men (Mutants who shared a dream of peaceful coexistence with humanity). This would lead to numerous battles between Magneto and his Brotherhood of Mutants (often referred to as the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants) and The X-Men.  Magneto additionally faced off against other heroes, including The Sub-Mariner, The Inhumans and The Fantastic Four.    

Following subsequent confrontations with The X-Men, Magneto aided his former rivals in battling the threat posed by the villainous Reverend Stryker.  It would prove the first of many instances where Magneto and the X-Men’s interests co-aligned; Magneto was even placed alongside The X-Men by the Beyonder during the Secret Wars event.  Magneto ultimately became a member of The X-Men, although there would be numerous instances where their interests would deviate, leading to conflict.  

His reputation as an inspirational figurehead among Mutantkind resulted in Magneto being named the leader of the Mutant nation of Genosha; and he was presumed killed when Genosha was destroyed.  He resurfaced some time later and rejoined the X-Men.  His presence acted to accelerate the growing philosophical divide among the X-Men, culminating in a schism wherein half the X-Men left to pursue a more extreme, militant agenda in their efforts to safeguard Mutantkind.  Magneto sided with this faction under the leadership of Cyclops.

Earlier in his life, Magneto had a torrid romance with a Romani woman named Magda.  Following Magda’s tragic death, Magneto was led to believe that she had bore him twin children and these children were actually the former members of his Mutant brotherhood known as Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch.   Magneto has had a tumultuous, often strained relationship with his son and daughter.  Years later he would learn that they were not actually his children and was only manipulated into believing so by the devious High Evolutionary.

Magneto’s actual daughter is the X-man known as Polaris, who possesses similar powers to her father.  Polaris was the result of a brief affair Magneto had years ago with a young woman; he and his daughter have only learned of their connection more recently and the two have since become close with one another.

With the advent of the Nation of Krakoa, Magneto has rejoined Professor Xavier, ending their long-time to help establish and govern the fledgling Mutant nation.  

Versions of Magneto have appeared in the Fox Films’ X-Men movies, portrayed by actors Michael Fassbender and Sir Ian McKellen.  Magneto first appeared in X-Men Vol. 1 #1 (1963).

I loathe fandom magnet fam. 😒😒😒 So much of it is like watching an episode of the Simpsons. Like a bad sitcom. (via @hellspeed )

I’m putting this it’s own separate post because wow do I have things to say about Fanon Magnet Family. It’s not imo as bad as Fanon Bat Family but it has it’s very terrible takes and I want to rant about it.

1. Lorna is Daddy’s Little Girl.

Disgusting. This imo has 100% has to do with Wolverine & the X-Men cartoon that features this very Princess in Need of rescue Lorna and her father the King of Mutants. Lorna was confirmed to be Magneto’s daughter in Uncanny X-Men (1963) #431. That’s literally DECADES after her first appearance. The way Fandom has reduced her to being Magneto’s daughter and not her own character annoys me. However I will ask @salarta who knows way more about Lorna than I do to weigh in on this if they want.

2. Wanda is the good twin, Pietro is the bad twin.

Every time I see this, I literally want to rage. Like fuck that, you can’t just label one as good and the other as bad. I love Wanda with all my heart but she is just as flawed as Pietro and isn’t perfect.

3. Wanda is oppressed by her twin brother!

I will BURN every single copy of that Scarlet Witch Solo. I literally hate how writers constantly use Pietro in a creepy overprotective misogynistic writing so that Wanda can have her “GIRLBOSS” moment for standing up for herself. Did you all forgot it was literally Pietro doing whatever his sister wanted to do? He wanted to leave the Brotherhood before her but stayed because Wanda felt she owed Magneto for him saving her.

4. The Wanda only stans.

Listen, I do not say this much but those fans who are ONLY here for Wanda and constantly reduce Pietro to that trope in no. 3. I do not interact with them at all. I get you might have a favored character but Pietro & Wanda are a set. Do not separate. You either love both or you aren’t allowed to have any takes on them.

5. Magneto was right.

No, the fuck he was not. Magneto is a man with a shit ton of issues and he isn’t right about everything and it’s so fucking annoying to see fans think Magneto can do nothing wrong. I love a character doing war crimes as much as the next person but honestly, Magneto killed his own son. Magneto murdered people. Pietro has the right to not forgive Magneto for a ton of stuff and yet it’s always handwaved away with “Magneto was Right”.

6. Pietro is in love with his twin sister

Can we NOT make this into incest? Can we please for ONCE acknowledge the fact that platonic/family/friend relationships can be JUST as emotional and devastating as romantic ones? Thankfully this seems to have died down in recent years but I literally hate how Ultimates made it a thing just to be edgy and fans went with it. 

7. The Happy Family

God, what comics have you been reading? They are so messy and dysfunctional and I love that. I understand wanting fluff fics and arts and I die over them too but like, it really puts me off to have this weird “everyone is happy, and Cherik is main ship” pop up into literally any Magnet Family stuff.

At this point I know there is more fanon out there that I dislike but I can’t remember because I’m mentally spent, but I want to ask @esteicy-blog @teal-bandit @allwillbeone and anyone else to add more if they want.

My favorite Marvel/Xmen families.

Let's start with Charles Xavier. Who here knew he has a son? Because he sure didn't.

Charles Xavier met Gabrielle Haller and the two had an affair. Long story short, he left while she was pregnant and didn't find out about it until Legion accidently on purpose kills Charles Xavier and accidently jump starts a whole new mutant universe that exists entirely in his head. Oops. I mean spoilers.

Legion aka David Haller. Is an Omega level Mutant who basically doesn't realize he is a mutant because he has dissociative personality disorder in which case he legit has a different ability for every one of his many and I mean many personalities. His main ability is telepathy, like father like son am I right? But his ability goes even further than basic telepathy, any one who dies near or around him gets sucked into his mind and he gains new abilities. But unlike his superhero father. He is an anti hero because every one of his personalities is fighting inside his head to get out. As a result, bad things happen around him, he gets new abilities and he has no idea what the heck is going on. I highly recommend watching Legion (an Fx show), trust me, he is such an unreliable narrator that you, as a viewer, also have no idea what is real and what is in his head.

Moving on. Let me talk about Magneto.

He is my favorite omega level mutant but much like his frenemy Charles Xavier. He also has no clue he has children. But unlike Xavier. It's not because he left while the girl was pregnant, more like the mother ran away because Magneto is cuckoo for cocoa puffs. His children also having a few screws loose.

Now Magneto has shit luck with family. He lost his original family during the Holocaust, and literally every single one of his relationships either dies or runs away from him once they learn of his powers. That being the case of Magda, who gave birth to Anya (who dies due to their home burning and collapsing with her inside), Magda runs away once Magneto seeks revenge on the officers who had prevented him from saving his daughter, thus revealing his powers and frightening Magda who was pregnant with twins and Magneto didn't know it at the time. Now the comic books are a fickle thing. For a time it was believed that Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch were the twins Magda had run away with but it was later revealed they are not. Now. I am a firm believer that they are related to Magneto because we have never seen or heard from these missing twins. Hence why I am including them in the Magneto family that I adore.

So let's keep diving into this family lineage.

Quicksilver has no children, but Wanda does. She creates twins, Billy and Tommy, after she suffers a psychotic break. It's believed that with the help of Mephisto and/or Agatha Harkness, she was able to have children with her synthezoid husband, the Vision. Quicksilver, who has always disapproved of their relationship tries to intervene, shit happens, Mephisto steals the babies and reabsorbs them back into his body to gain more power (Wanda having unknowingly used apart of Mephisto's soul to create twins out of nothing), Wanda collectively loses her shit once again, briefly becomes a villain because she cannot handle losing her makeshift family, goes insane and eventually seeks solace on a mountain. Unbeknownst to her, her twins had been given souls of their own, and as such were resurrected into Billy Kaplan and Tommy Shepherd. They become part of the Young Avengers superhero team as Wiccan and Speed. Wiccan having greater witch powers than his mother and Speed having similar abilities to his uncle. Billy has a boyfriend turned husband Teddy (a Kree/Skrull hybrid born from the Princess and Prince of the Kree and the Skrull respectively).

And that's where we are currently at. I love the family lineage of two of the greatest mutants the world has ever seen

I don't pretend to be a comic book expert but like it just fascinates me how crazy the offspring are. Even Billy goes through a period of hysteria when he learns his boyfriend is a shapeshifter and goes through a sexuality crises as Teddy could be a girl if he chose but Teddy chooses to be a guy, an alien guy, but a guy. And then Teddy is needed to help put an end to the Kree-Skrull war and as a result, Billy, much like his mother, goes a little depressive/crazy when the anchor/love of his life is not near him. But that's much later and I hope Disney doesn't screw up a great LGBTQ couple.

WandaVision: Dissecting the MCU’s Most Successful Superhero Couple

Disclaimer: I am only using the term WandaVision as the coupling name for Scarlet Witch and Vision. I am not centring this discussion on the upcoming Disney+ series but rather talking about the 6 year build up to it.

Introduction:

Despite the fact the likes of Hank Pym’s Ant-Man & Janet van Dyne’s Wasp along with Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman are Marvel Comics’ most prominent superhero couples, Scarlet Witch and Vision have always been that “unusual couple” that became a fan-favourite, didn’t diminish either character’s individual stories and, once the two were officially introduced into the MCU in 2015′s Avengers: Age of Ultron, became a hotly anticipated coupling by fans from their somewhat instant connection.

Not only is this comics-accurate love story finally being realised in the MCU, but the fact Kevin Feige feels as passionate about them as fans like I do that he is giving them their own series to shine, along with Wanda herself being involved in the MCU’s next big arc with exploring the Multiverse, I think it is safe to say that WandaVision have outshone the likes of Ant-Man and the Wasp and other couplings to become the MCU’s It couple.

Well, considering Disney+ released a new behind the scenes series called Marvel Legends last week with the first two episodes focusing on Wanda and Vision, despite them being no more than clip-reels of the characters MCU timeline, I wanted to delve in deeper and discuss how characters that were deemed B-worthy enough to be sent to streaming...which suddenly seems like the place to be...have suddenly become the hottest commodities in the MCU.

The Age of Miracles:

Wanda Maximoff first appeared in the MCU in an mid-credits scene for 2014′s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, adding the cherry on the top of what was already a glorious cake of a movie by unofficially introducing Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Sidebar, this was, at its time, very confusing for fans who believed that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were owned by 20th Century Fox in their X-Men movies. However, after the announcement of the Maximoff twins in the MCU and Quicksilver appearing simultaneously in 2014′s X-Men: Days of Future Past, it was revealed that a deal was made between Fox and Disney that the twins would only have certain traits in either universe.

For the X-Men movies, they would be Mutants, have their origins as the children of Magneto and...even though this never happened...appear as members of the Brotherhood of Mutants.

For the MCU, the Maximoff twins are known as enhanced individuals gaining their powers from the Mind Stone after experimentation from HYDRA. There is no mention of them being Mutants, their parents were indirect victims of Stark Industries, and despite Pietro having his original speed physiology powers, Wanda started off with Psionic Manipulation rather than Chaos Magic as her comic-book counterpart has.

However, it has been confirmed by Kevin Feige that Wanda’s shapeless red energy is magic of the same elk to Doctor Strange, just untamed. Meaning the upcoming alternative sitcom reality Wanda has created in WandaVision restoring Vision, could be an application of her latent reality warping powers.

The Maximoff Twins were officially introduced in 2015′s Avengers: Age of Ultron originally as operatives of HYDRA, before moving on to serve Ultron until defecting from him after realising he was evil and joining the Avengers in their fight to save their home country Sokovia.

Vision meanwhile was officially introduced at the end of the second act for the movie but his predecessor JARVIS was first introduced in Iron Man way back when in 2008...the movie that started it all.

As Tony Stark’s A.I. assistant, JARVIS was stated by Stark to be a top of the range program that runs more of Stark Industries than anyone other than Pepper Potts as CEO. However, when Stark had the ingenious idea to create Ultron...otherwise known as RDJ wanting to steal Hank Pym’s most famous comic-book storyline...as a peacekeeping program to safeguard Earth from extra-terrestrial threats, in typical sci-fi fashion Ultron goes evil and seemingly destroys JARVIS.

However, JARVIS simply retreated into the server only to return after the Avengers acquire Ultron’s recently created synthetic android. The Science Bros. transfer JARVIS’ conscience into the synthetic body and with the help of Thor/s thunder charge Vision was born.

I have to say also, while superhero movie trailers do get me excited for said superhero movie, seeing the reveal of Vision in the final Age of Ultron trailer gave me that wow factor moment only X-Men trailers usually do.

Comics to Movies:

As I have always admitted, I am not as in-depth with the comics as the movies. However, Scarlet Witch and Vision are two characters I have followed pretty since I first found out about them in the mid-noughties as a teenager.

But what cemented the two as my favourite Marvel characters overall, from Comics, to Movies to TV, is the literal creation of the twin sons Wiccan and Speed who became key members in the Young Avengers.

Now yes, both characters have had lives separate from each other because, as I said before, they are still their own characters despite being also known as a couple. But while Wanda has had a somewhat twincestuous relationship with her brother in far comics history, and Vision had his own family of synthetic androids including daughter Viv, who was a playable character in Marvel’s Avengers Academy, I find the best in Marvel Comics writing was actually after their twins were reabsorbed into the demon Mephisto as they were fragments of his soul and Wanda went crazy heralding in the House of M.

Also, not only is Wanda apparently getting her Scarlet Witch moniker either during or after the MCU Multiverse arc, but also a more comics-accurate costume. Up until now Wanda’s costume in the MCU has been they street-casual which does suit the Wanda of Sokovia. Even when she joined the Avengers and got an upgraded costume it did seem more like something someone could wear for a casual day out...as proof, my sister dressed up as the MCU Scarlet Witch by finding clothes in standard clothing stores rather than costume outlets.

My favourite Scarlet Witch outfit to date has been her full-length red gown complete with headdress from the comics, the headdresses of Magneto’s daughters are so iconic that when Polaris crafted her own out of Magneto’s medallion in The Gifted I was fanboying so hard.

We already know Wanda will be wearing a Halloween costume inspired by her iconic comics suit in WandaVision, but if the Halloween costume looks that impressive, I cannot wait to see what her actual supersuit looks like.

Throughout the MCU:

Right from the start, I really enjoyed both Scarlet Witch and Vision in the MCU, despite Scarlet Witch still not to be known as Scarlet Witch to date in the MCU. But from when we see cameos of Wanda and Pietro as experiments of HYDRA, that one quick shot of Wanda displaying her powers I was sold.

Vision meanwhile gave himself a somewhat modified version of his comics-accurate cape because he saw Thor had a cape and wanted one. He could also wield Mjølnir, does this make him worthy? It must do despite the Avengers constant mithering about it. If you can wield Mjølnir you’re worthy.

Talking from a romance perspective, it was a big tease of the two getting together right up until 2018′s Avengers: Infinity War as while it was teased in 2016′s Captain America: Civil War, a romance wasn’t actually shown until we find them in Scotland.

Interestingly enough in the comics, the couple retire to New Jersey rather than Scotland.

Also, like a lot of heroes, both Wanda and Vision seemed to get an upgrade in powers every movie. We always got teases of both their full potentials in the quieter moments like when Pietro died and Wanda, feeling her twin dying, vaporised the surrounding Ultron Sentries in a moment of distraught heartache and when Vision destroyed the last Ultron Sentry.

But it wasn’t until Captain America: Civil War, where we learned that Wanda could control the Mind Stone powering Vision and Vision could easily severely injure another hero and then in Infinity War when either Vision created a human guise for himself or maybe Wanda did, while Wanda not only made short work of Thanos’ army but could also destroy the Mind Stone and, in Endgame take on and possibly defeat Thanos single-handed, that we got a true display of her powers.

MCU creatives have stated that Scarlet Witch is in fact the most powerful MCU hero after it was originally stated Captain Marvel was, so when Wanda finally upgrades and realises her true potential this should be fully realised making Scarlet Witch the most powerful MCU character.

WandaVision and MCU Future:

Here’s what we know about WandaVision:

Wanda finds herself in a sitcom television universe potentially of her own making after not only losing Vision, but not forgetting also Wanda has lost her family including her twin brother as well as friends and teammates Black Widow, Captain America and even Iron Man.

For someone who was late-teens early-twenties at the time of Age of Ultron, this makes her late-20s early-30s by the time of this series, my age, and so obviously all of this loss and grief will play havoc on one’s mind let alone everything else she has gone through.

Also Vision is back but I still don’t know to what extent that is, is he only back in this alternate sitcom reality or has Wanda willed him back into existence in the same way that she willed their twin sons into reality in the comics.

Speaking of which, we know the couple have twins in the series as when they’re in their 80s sitcom setting, we see two bassinettes and it’s hinted we will see them as teenagers.

It has to be Wiccan and Speed, it can’t not be. This would be a massive red mark on WandaVision’s scorecard if it isn’t. I have recently heard rumours they could be human-android hybrids to match the parents and someone even suggesting Viv could be one of the twins...but I can’t fathom why if the Young Avengers are coming into play with the confirmation of Kate Bishop, America Chavez and Stature, why these two core characters wouldn’t be at play.

The other hotly anticipated character introduction is Kathryn Hahn as Agnes...again if this isn’t Agatha Harkness then it is major tease. Agnes is surely an alias for Agatha Harkness who in the comics and even X-Men: Evolution was Scarlet Witch’s mentor for controlling her powers.

The only difference between the two incarnations is in every other version of the character Agatha is an old woman whereas Kathryn Hahn looks like Kathryn Hahn. It will also be great to see Agatha Harkness in a comedic setting as Kathryn Hahn is hilarious.

We also have returning MCU characters Jimmy Woo, Monica Rambeau and Darcy Lewis added to the series. All three may not be connected or they all could be working for SWORD which is the successor to SHIELD first seen in the post-credits scene for Spider-Man: Far From Home.

I’m thrilled to have Kat Dennings back in the MCU and considering both she and Randall Park have a history in comedy, the sitcom settings should suit them well.

I’m not sure why any of these characters are connected to Scarlet Witch or Vision considering all three are connected to separate heroes Ant-Man, Captain Marvel and Thor respectively, but any excuse to bring them back I’ll take it.

What is also more or less confirmed is the ending of WandaVision will see a massive witch fight between Wanda and Agnes resulting in Wanda tearing a hole in the multiverse starting the Multiverse arc in the MCU which will be picked up in Spider-Man 3 and resolved in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with Wanda set to appear in both movies.

As for Vision’s fate post WandaVision, it is currently unknown where he will appear next if at all, and it may actually depend on the success of the series, but we know that Wiccan and Speed will become part of the Young Avengers so they’re staying on.

It is also worth noting that in the Young Avengers, a second version of Vision known as Jonas was a member of the team created through Nathaniel Richard’s neurokinetic armor gaining sentience after having Vision’s operating system downloaded into it.

Nathaniel Richards is a distant relative to Reed Richards aka Mister Fantastic who is set to appear in the upcoming Fantastic 4 movie, but is also a time remnant of Kang the Conqueror who is set to appear in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania and may be alluded to in the upcoming Disney+ series Loki.

Nathaniel is also Iron Lad, who forms the Young Avengers as part of the Avengers Fail-Safe program. Do you see how this all ties together?

So basically even if we don’t see this Vision again after WandaVision, we may see Jonas in the Young Avengers.

As for the future for Scarlet Witch post-multiverse, if they are bringing in Wiccan and Speed, I really want the next big arc to be the Children’s Crusade. I know fans want House of M...WandaVision is possibly as close to House of M as we’re going to get.

Children’s Crusade is how Wiccan and Speed learn about and are reunited with their estranged mother who has lost her memories and is living in wedded bliss with Doctor Doom...who could easily be introduced in said Fantastic 4 movie.

Conclusion:

Whatever the future holds for Scarlet Witch and Vision, no one can deny that this love story has not only been an organic one, but with it set to be the running theme for WandaVision, this love story is most definitely one for the ages.

The mysterious Death of Charles Xavier Part 2

The chippering birds are singing loudly on the bare branch of the tree near Maximoff´s household. One girl wearing a purple cloak and spreading towards the woman at the entrance of the house- the woman is wearing scarlet and is holding a teacup hovering in the air- and hugs said the woman. “Miss Maximoff, guess what? I got accept into the school!’

Kitty is beaming as she’s holding the letter of acceptance. Wanda Maximoff hugs the girl, her hand is gloved with velvet red and once the hug is broken, the Scarlet Witch titled her head. “School?”

Kitty beams and explains in one go, without needing to breathe, what really happened, and then takes a moment to breathe. Wanda blinks at the explanation.

“I see, let’s drink tea and talk,” Wanda set the table-one can see the magic items and even feel the charm itself. Kitty is familiar with going to this place, however, Kitty never saw the Darkhold...too advanced and too dangerous.

“So, from what you told me, you want to go to Hellfire School to solve the mystery of Charles Xavier´s death, ok, may I ask why?” Wanda asked curiously as the young pupil is tying up her hair in a ponytail at the last minute.

“Well, I...” she is cut off as a strong wind flips her hair, she looks around to see a new person in the room. “Oh, hello Mr. Maximoff,” Kitty greets him. Pietro rolls his eyes-it´s possible to see the corner of his mouth twisting in a smile- and speaks to the girl.

“I told you to stop calling me that, Mr. Maximoff makes me feel old...and I already have white hair,” he mentions his hair as proof of his words.

Kitty nods sagely. “Ok, Mr. P”

Wanda chuckles at that. Pietro sighs.

“Well, it’s better...and you what you two are talking about? magic stuff?” Pietro asked interested and resembling a curious puppy. Wanda shakes her head.

“Actually no, we´re talking about Kitty going to Hellfire School,” Wanda explained cautiously. “The school where Prof X was murder,” she raises her eyebrows and gesture to Kitty Pryde.

Pietro takes the hint. “So, let me get this straight, you wanna solve another mystery?” Pietro asked, and Kitty nods mutely. “Of course, here we go again, ok...did you know Prof X´ house was a school before the Hellfire took over?”

Kitty denies and now is giving undying attention to Pietro.

“Yeah, the Hellfire used to be a school for all mutants, well, he had a group of mutants called X-Men...Scott was the leader,” Pietro snickers and Wanda gives him a pointy look at him.

“After the death of Prof X, yes Kitty he was called like that, the X-Men disbanded, and re-grouped in other places,” Wanda pipes in calmly.

Pietro grimace now. “Our sperm donor was friends with Prof X,” he looks a bit revolted, “or maybe more than friends when the bald man died...our sperm donor cried like we never saw before, nor we´ll,” Pietro added somberly.

Wanda nods. “Yes, Magneto was so distraught by Prof X´ death...he even tried to take the school to honor his “friend” death," Wanda takes a sip of his cup of tea. “Then, by the intervention of law, Madelyne Pryor got the acquaintance of the school,”

Wanda can see the gears on Kitty´s mind working.

“But, what about Jean Grey? Should she be the one to be the heir? I mean, Prof X had a son ....who rejected him, the school in several ways, even legal ways,” Kitty remembers that story and has the clips saved on her pen drive.

Pietro interjected. “Well, yes. But Jean and Maddy are twins,” Pietro seems to want to make a joke and Wanda shakes her head. “Anyway, Maddy was made the heir for reasons we do not know...and then she and Emma created the Hellfire school, a place for mutants who are real genius!”

kitty blinks remembering this story. This time Wanda scoffs.

“Emma is a bitch,” Wanda replied and Kitty is shocked by the choice of words. “Sorry Kitty, but, she is....we have a bad history. Anyway, it was her idea to make this school so...exclusive,” Wanda is clearly not pleased.

Pietro nods in agreement. “She’s also one of the few telepaths who are powerful enough to hold the title Prof X left open,”

“And to make our sperm donor back off, say what you will about Emma, but she’s truly strong to make Magneto think twice before anything, few have this...privilege,” Wanda replied cooly.

Kitty nods. “And how the body was found? I mean, Prof X is/was a powerful telepath... I find it hard to believe he was murder in the traditional way,”

Pietro and Wanda sent a look to each other.

“Kitten, look, is already too late to say how dangerous and morbid this all is, again, not your first mysterious death nor will be your last...but, Prof X had many secrets, made many enemies...his death is not truly investigated,” the twins talked together.

Kitty holds her tongue to not say how funny that was.

“I know...but like you two said, together! I had to do this once again,” Kitty states conventionally.

Wanda sighs and then speaks. “You know, Reeds tried to solve it...”

Pietro shakes his head. “He’s that smart and I bet he knows what happened but refuses to share it,”

No one argues against that.

Kitty holds her letter. “Well, guess I have to be smarter than him,” she jokes. “and yes, I´ll solve the case,”

“Just be careful, Kitty, those students are scary smart, one of them, moon girl is so smart she...created a dino,” Pietro exclaimed perplexed.

Wanda chuckles. “You have a twin you is a witch. This surprised you?!”

“Wanda, have you made a T-Rex? No, I don´t think so,”

Kitty watches them bicker for some time.

Cameron is a rational man, at least, he truly hopes he is. When his daughter develops magic and mutation well, the man was freaking out, but, thanks to Terry, his dear wife, the man got a grip and did the right thing.

This, however, is a matter they both need to discuss quickly as possible. “Terry, listen, I have a friend in New Orleans, he has a house for rent, we can go there...Kitty can study in that School of magic in New Orleans, We can live there,” Cameron suggested.

Terry’s lips are now a thin line. “Look, we´re jumping horses here, your job...how that would work?”

Cameron raises his hand. “We have a filial in New Orleans, I can be transferred there,”

Terry is biting her lips now. “Yes, but the legal process would take a while, plus, we never enter contact with that school, Wanda told us, remember? That New Orleans magic school has time to accept new students...and I think we´re far behind,” Terry responds worriedly.

“True, but I was thinking...maybe Scarlet Witch could...you know, open some door for Kitty,” noticing his wife’s gaze, Cameron amends. “Look, I´m not happy with any of this, but, do you want our daughter to be the sole magic user here?”

Terry blinks.

“I´m a muggle, ok, but even I know Kitty must be lonely here. She’s the only witch in this area, is involved in dark mysterious and well, is the only witch too young to join a coven,” Cameron replied.

“Oh...but she has so many friends, does she needs witch friends?”

“I don´t know, again, I´m a muggle, but, wouldn´t hurt...Kitty can be more close with her magic side, it feels as if we´re trying to force her to choose one side,” Cameron states.

“All paths lead to Hellfire School then, and I hate it, I don´t want them to bully her...look, our daughter may not be magic, but, those kids...” she trails off.

Cameron nods slowly. “I´m afraid too, but let’s be real, what option do we have here, we once tried to lock her in her room to stop her from tangle her in dark mystery, and...we found out her former principal is Satan,”

“Mephisto” Terry corrected.

“Yeah, so...let’s try a new approach, maybe this is just the typical ‘’rich dude is killed for money’’ and will be bored, hey, sometimes rich people kill each other for money, not for Satan,”

The door slams and the two adults jolt.

Kitty enters the house. Still holding the letter. “Mom, dad...”

Terry just hugs her daughter, “tell me, do you want to go to this school?”

Kitty nods.

“Promise to call us?”

Kitty nods.

“Then...fine...guess we have no choice, but, look is temporary, you heard me, temporary!”

Crash Course: Billy and Tommy

For the uninitiated who just found out about these two via WandaVision, here is the sequence of events that leads to a) why the boys have different last names and b) why Tommy has white hair:

   Vision and the Scarlet Witch, 1985: Billy and Tommy are born while Wanda and Vision are living a ‘normal’ life in New Jersey. It is later established that Wanda’s pregnancy was, initially, only a psychosomatic ‘hysterical’ pregnancy due to jealousy over her brother’s marriage to Crystal Amaquelin (Inhuman) and birth of their daughter Luna.

   It is also later established (in Young Avengers Presents: Wiccan and Speed) that Billy and Tommy were actually created by Wanda, using her reality-warping powers and the power of an eldritch god which had inhabited her body, using fragments of the soul of Mephisto, lord of Hell.

  During a battle, Wanda momentarily loses the focus which keeps the souls attached to the twins’ bodies, and they vanish. However, the fragments of soul which created them were purified by her love, and instead of returning to Mephisto, were instead reborn in the bodies of two boys living in separate parts of New England: Billy Kaplan, in the Upper West Side (later Chelsea), New York, and Tommy Shepherd, in Springfield, New Jersey.

Though it has been considered dubiously canon now, early on it was hinted that both boys were adopted at the same time; Billy also mentions having two brothers who are never named and only mentioned once.

   Young Avengers v1 issue 1-6, April 2005: After the events of Disassembled. The Avengers are defunct, due to Wanda’s mental breakdown over the loss of her children caused a causality chain-reaction that led to the deaths of several Avengers (including Jack of Hearts and Ant-Man, Scott Lang). A group of boys, led by a time-displaced youthful version of Kang the Conqueror (Nathaniel Richards, a distant descendant of both Tony Stark and Reed Richards) is determined to change his destiny as a supervillain by reforming the Avengers and being a hero called Iron Lad and leading a team consisting of Patriot (Eli Bradley, nephew of Captain America/Josiah X, America: Red, White and Black), Hulkling (Teddy Altman, son of Captain Marvel [Mar-Vell] and Princess Anelle of the Skrull Empire, who is unaware of his heritage at the start and believes himself to be a mutant), and Asgardian (Billy Kaplan, who aside from being a massive Avengers fanboy doesn’t have an immediately recognized connection to the Avengers). Cassie Lang, daughter of the late Ant-Man, demands to join the team, calling herself Stature (she has stolen Pym particles and can grow and shrink at will) and later, after rescuing her family from a hostage situation, Kate Bishop insinuates herself into the team as well and is, at the end, simply called Hawkeye.

House of M, August 2005: The Young Avengers are too new to be ‘involved’ in the event, but the twins (and their creepy ‘brother’ Tyler) are present as small children in Wanda’s delusion. She re-lives their birth, and re-traumatizes herself in their loss. It’s a whole thing. Her daughter with Nightcrawler (TJ) from another reality shows up. (Nocturne is an actual bean please read up on her).

Decimation, January 2006: “No More Mutants.” 198 mutants out of millions are all that remain after Wanda’s proclamation. Fortuitously, two of those who remain are Billy and Tommy (and TJ)

Young Avengers v1 issue 7-12: Teddy is caught in the middle of an intergalactic power struggle: both the Kree and Skrulls want him, as he has significant positions of power with both races, and his mother (who he discovers was really his nursemaid who spirited him away from the Skrull homeworld to protect him) is murdered by the Super-Skrull. In order to rescue him, the Young Avengers use the Vision’s programming (now stored in Iron Lad’s old suit, now named Jonas) to track down another potential linked mutant. They break Tommy out of a mutant-research facility his mother had remanded him to after a run-in with the law. Tommy is unstable and violent, but it’s immediately clear he and Billy are twins and there is More To The Story. Billy drops the Asgardian name, starts calling himself Wiccan, and accidentally outs himself as gay (and dating Teddy) to his parents.

Young Avengers Special: Wiccan and Speed: Billy and Tommy go back to Vision and Wanda’s home in New Jersey to look for clues to their past. The Mephisto connection is established and it is confirmed that they are, in fact, Wanda’s children.

Civil War, 2006: After the New Warriors cause Nitro to detonate in front of an elementary school, killing hundreds of innocents in the process (known as the Stamford Incident), the government pushes through the Mutant Registration Act, forcing all superpowered individuals to either register with the federal government or else be deemed a risk and placed under arrest. This divides the Young Avengers -- Cassie, Kate and Jonas believe it is for the greater good, since they could still work as superheroes, just with government oversight, but Billy, Tommy, Teddy and Eli join the faction led by Captain America, which deems it unconstitutional and just plain wrong. They have a run-in with the Runaways, where they are captured by a mad scientist using Noh-Varr (Marvel Boy) as a mind-controlled soldier. Wiccan’s ears are covered with sound-dampening devices to prevent him using his powers, and he is forced to watch as the scientist attempts to study Teddy via surgical means. (it’s a little gruesome, fair warning) Later, during a night patrol these four are caught, and though they are quickly rescued, after Wiccan and Cloak transport them to another location, it turns out to be a trap, and Billy is captured and imprisoned in an extra-dimensional prison called 42.

It is speculated that he was imprisoned for anywhere from one to six months. It is also speculated that during this time, due to the verbal component of his powers (he must speak his will into being, at this point) that he was either comatose or muzzled during this time.

After being freed, Billy spends several months in shock, sitting at a window in a near-catatonic state, unable to react as his friends and family try to bring him out of it. Eventually, Teddy approaches him, and lays down an ultimatum. He proposes marriage, on the condition that Billy gets out of that window. In the issue’s last panel, they share their first on-panel kiss.

Tiny queers all over the world rejoiced.

The Children’s Crusade, 2010: The Young Avengers work on the sidelines for a while, until Wiccan accidentally overloads his powers during a fight with the terrorist group Sons of the Serpent. The Avengers want to put him on lockdown until he can control his powers, but he knows that if he can find Wanda, she can teach him all he needs to know. After busting him out of his ‘suite’ at the Tower, the rest of the Young Avengers accompany him to Wanda’s last known location -- Latveria, specifically its capital Doomstadt, ruled by Dr. Doom. There, they meet Magneto, and learn that Wanda has no memory of her past, and is a guest of Dr. Doom in his palace -- in fact, she is his fiance, and they are due to be married! Billy can’t let this rest -- he knows there’s more to it, and sneaks out of the inn they are staying at, leaving an apology note for Teddy and striking out on his own to break her free. It is revealed that Doom was taking advantage of Wanda’s amnesia in order to get access to the Cthonic power she still possessed, but after taking it for himself, Wanda’s memories return, and with the help of Billy, the rest of the Young Avengers (and absolutely no help from the Avengers or X-Men, who both show up to try and fight it out). In the end, Wanda embraces her two sons, promising to be a greater presence in their lives.

Sometime during this time, both Tommy and Teddy have begun permanently residing with the Kaplan household in Chelsea, NY.

Young Avengers, vol2, 2013: In an attempt to bring Teddy some happiness, Billy browses all possible realities to find a version of his mother who had not been murdered by the Super-Skrull. He appears to find one, but she turns out to be an extradimensional parasite called Mother, who can influence adults (here meaning anyone over the age of 21). Loki (still in his 10-year-old form due to having died and been reborn it’s a long story) appears, claiming he can help them vanquish Mother if they trust him, but America Chavez also arrives to try to discourage them. Kate and Noh-Varr have some sort of friends-with-benefits thing going and arrive with a spaceship. Tommy works at a tech-assembly company as a temp, where David Alleyne (formerly Prodigy, who lost his powers on M-day) also works. I admit my memory of this series is spotty since I wasn’t a huge fan, but it establishes that Billy is an entity known as the Demiurge, who created the reality America Chavez was born from and may, possibly, be the most powerful entity in the Marvel universe.

New Avengers vol4, 2016: Post-Secret Wars, in which a Cosmic Cube broke the Marvel multiverse and Dr. Doom attempted to put it back together again, with varying degrees of success.  Bobby Da Costa (Sunspot, formerly of the New Mutants) has inherited the vast wealth and criminal empire of the organization formerly called Advanced Idea Mechanics -- A.I.M. Now calling it Avengers Idea Mechanics, he gathers a team to protect the Earth from extradimensional foes who are, apparently, spawned from a hyperfuturistic alternate version of Reed Richards. Chimeras with floating crystals for heads are nullifying magic all over the globe, but Wiccan and Songbird figure out how to use her scream to shatter them. Then, a Cthulhu-like entity called Moridun infects Billy, and a future version of the Avengers arrive in the past to kill him, including a beardly, barbarian-looking version of Hulkling. Eventually, Billy figures out that Moridun feeds on negative emotions -- and well, I’ll let Billy’s words speak for him:

“”I know what poisoned thoughts are like, Moridun. I always have. I get anxiety. I don’t think I’m good enough. I don’t like myself, even though I know -- rationally -- I know -- doesn’t matter. I have bad days, bad thoughts. And sometimes... sometimes, yeah, they’re hard to fight. But I don’t let them win every day. And I’m damn sure not going to let you win today. You’re just a cheap little bully who likes breaking toys, Moridun --

and you shouldn’t have let me see you! GET OUT OF MY HEAD!”

I freaking love this comic okay you get to see future Teddy go back home to his husband who’s standing at the sink washing dishes and talking about their daughter Katie and I cried when I first read it.

Bobby also gifts the boys a SUPER SWANKY PENTHOUSE RIGHT OFF CENTRAL PARK.

At this point, there is also a Scarlet Witch solo series, which I highly recommend reading. She is shown owning her mental illness, cutting Pietro out of her life in order to maintain it, and coming to grips with the loss of Vision and reconnecting with her sons.

There is also the Death of Magic run, which establishes a lot of lore about Billy as the Demiurge. Unfortunately, during a lot of this era Tommy is nowhere to be seen.

However, at the start of the latest event, Empyre, we find out why: He’s moved out of the Kaplans’ and in with David, who he has been dating since the events of YAv2. He seems genuinely happy, which makes me happy.

Now: Billy and Teddy have finally gotten married. Billy is still working toward becoming the best damn sorcerer and potential pseudodeity he can be, Teddy has put down his destiny as the Great Unifier, and everybody’s just happy.

I don’t care what Marvel does in the comics anymore my sons are happy.

I’m sure I missed some details but this got WAY LONGER THAN I INTENDED IT TO.

OH YEAH THERE’S A WHOLE COMIC WHERE VISION TRIES TO ‘RECREATE’ THE FEELING OF BEING PART OF A FAMILY AND INSTEAD OF CONSULTING WITH HIS ACTUAL LIVING SONS HE BORROWS WANDA’S MENTAL ENGRAMS AND MAKES HIMSELF A CUTE LITTLE WIFE AND TWO CUTE LITTLE KIDS AND IT ALL GOES TITS-UP IN A HURRY GDI VISION

My review of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver #4

I would give it 4/5 stars - lots to like but not without its problems - probably could have used another issue to flesh it out. Spoilers below the cut

I enjoyed it a lot more on my second reading than my first! However I would say this is one of the weaker of the 4 Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver issues. Stronger than the first one but #2 and #3 were better.

Firstly the art and the colours are killing it. I am going to miss Tammetta's work going into the next series. Williams also does a great job with his bold colours.

The summary of this issue following the announcement of the scarlet witch book did get this on the wrong foot for me because it is all about Wanda which I felt was disrespectful for a co-lead 60th anniversary series for both characters. While the last book itself is a little more Wanda heavy it has a much better balance than issue 1 did and Pietro walks away from this book with his head held high in my opinion (and if the Q&A at the end is to be believed he will have more regular appearances in the Sclaret Witch solo as the Giver is still after him as well - good he brings the missing piece to Orlando's books - a lot of fun and someone Wanda can genuinely emote off of and who matches her beat for beat)

How Orlando would write Pietro was one of my biggest worries going in but I have been really happy with his portrayal so far and wouldn't mind him writing Pietro more. We see a good exploration of his powers and his emotional maturity after his growth in Quicksilver no surrender is on full display! He shrugs off the reveal from Magneto's letter to give his sister the pep talk she needed to control her full power, takes out the frightful 400, lands a solid blow on the Wizard and his confrontation at the end with Magneto was a good one - hes so done with his fathers BS and shrugs it off, tells his sister how much he loves her and leaves. I like that his relationship with Monet St Croix has not been forgotten - Orlando and Tammetta were really like - we're going to have a parent say one of the worst things they can to a child so we're gonna get this man laid (Pietro and Monet messy sex marathons was not something I thought would become cannon but I'm happy it did - I hope the comics keep this couple around for a while and explore them - I hope Monet appears in Wanda's next solo cause I want to see her interact with Wanda).

Cthon Wanda was very very cool. I am excited to see what is coming up with the Giver plot however I do feel this mini could have benefitted from an extra issue, cause having to set up the next Scarlet Witch solo does bog things down a bit. The twins don't actually interact much this series, for something that was advertised as being about their relationship I think it really needed a lot more of that - they spend nearly two issues separated so I think we needed more of a moment between them to resolve their fight. Unfortunately my fear that Magneto would overshadow everything sort of happened with his small appearance at the end immediately making it all about Magneto.

Speaking of Magneto the revelation in the letter is one I liked the more I thought about it. It's not a big reveal but it is Magnetos abusive tactics on display at his finest- a clear setting up of a narcissist parent creating a golden child and Scapegoat dynamic. I know a lot of people are taking what he says as him being right at face value and crying about Magneto being character assassinated or this being an affront to Pietro and I disagree. Yes it's a bit over the top considering what we saw in RoM and Krakoa but it is not out of character. Magneto has always been a dick to his children, Pietro in particular - I could go on for days but this review is long enough - but let's not be surprised that the man that murdered his son and was willing to let his daughter be murdered for mutant kind is a good father in any sense of the world. I think the story itself and Wanda and Pietro saying so to Magneto's face that he is wrong about the twins is very apparent. Tammetta emphasises the physical resemblance between Pietro and Magneto to make it clear that Magneto is projecting onto his son and to a degree wants to seperate the twins. A tactic he also used when the twins were under his "care" in the brotherhood.

Pietro and Magneto were done well in that scene, however, Wanda's response is what is off and I believe that is what does Wanda disservice as a character. She sent the Wizard to a hell dimension for hurting her brother but only gently tells Magneto he is wrong when he tells his only son that he should have stayed dead and calls him poison to Wanda. Orlando's finally calling out Magneto for what he is but the way he won't let Wanda herself go at Magneto or yell at him feels out of character for Wanda. Also the fact she agreed with Magneto initially pissed me off (though maybe this was her self blaming) Is this building up to something more? Will we get and explanation for it? I hope so but until then I am not happy with how Orlando writes Wanda around Magneto. She did overall take a back seat to the men in this series a bit, Magneto infantalise her and she takes it, vision talks down to her and is the kne figuring everything out for Wanda (I'm glad the vibe seems to be they're friendly ex's with no intention of getting back together and it shohld stay that way- though we got a forced cheek kiss - two series now which forces a Wandavision kiss but not Wanda giving her brother a hug when he's emotionally vulnerable - all for a racist MCU show it's very dissapointing) and a lot of the really good moments are taken up by Pietro until she has her main moment at the end - however twins dynamic is even,their partners, Wanda has a solo coming up so I think this last point can be forgiven.

Overall to wrap up this long review I have enjoyed and had fun with this series overall but it has it's flaws - the Wanda/Magneto dynamic being a big one and sometimes Orlando gets a bit too wordy (maybe a bit rich coming from me) which derails the pace a bit and makes my eyes glaze over - but I'm really happy with this series and hope it's success means we get more co-lead series with the twins or more Pietro in comics in general (and Wanda to keep being as prominent as she is)

WandaVision: How Scarlet Witch and Vision's children could change the MCU

Marvel Studios upcoming Disney Plus streaming series WandaVision seems to be placing a focus on adapting the torrid comic book romance of Wanda Maximoffthe Scarlet Witch and Vision.

Some of what that entails has already been seen previously in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, through their star-crossed affair as an Infinity Stone-enhanced human and a synthezoid who must overcome his own destruction – but one of the more off-kilter aspects of their comic book history may also take center stage in the series: their twin sons William and Thomas.

If you re wondering how an artificial man without human biology can father children, the answer to that and the implications of that answer may be at the heart of the conflict in WandaVision, as it was in the show s comic book source material.

As in the movies, Vision and Scarlet Witch developed a complicated romance in the comic books culminating in their wedding, which led, naturally, to Wanda s desire to build a family and have children – a prospect stymied by Vision s lack of human reproductive material it s been implied he has human-like reproductive physiognomy, so sex is possible but reproduction isn t.

Enter Agatha Harkness, a powerful witch who has served as Wanda Maximoff s mentor over the years though she was first introduced as a nanny for Franklin Richards in Fantastic Four. Though she d later take Wanda under her wing, the pair first met in a noted haven for witches, New Salem, Colorado, facing down a coven of magical villains named Salem s Seven; a group comprised of Harkness s grandchildren, fathered by her son Nicholas Scratch.

When Salem s Seven are defeated after burning Agatha Harkness at the stake, she enters an astral form and imbues Wanda with massive amounts of magical energy from the Seven – magical power Wanda uses to form her twin sons William and Thomas, who become the consummation of sorts of her marriage to Vision.

Though William and Thomas are infants and appear as human children, seen swaddled in blankets in the WandaVision trailer, they are not actually flesh-and-blood in comic books. Instead, they re magical manifestations of part of the soul essence of the demonic Master Pandemonium, one of the many guises of the devilish Marvel Comics villain Mephisto, working through a human agent. 

Unfortunately, the timing of this revelation couldn t have been worse for Wanda, who was still reeling from the corruption and destruction of her husband the Vision, who had turned evil, tried to conquer the world, and rebuilt as an emotionless husk. All of this is too much for Wanda, whose sanity is threatened by the series of events.

To end the madness, Agatha Harkness reabsorbs the twins back into Master Pandemonium s soul, and erases their memory from Scarlet Witch s mind. But the memory of her children returns when Wanda is rescued from the real culprit behind the entire thing – Immortus, one of the many guises of the time-traveling Kang, the villain of Ant-Man to reportedly be played by Jonathan Majors.

Years later, Wanda finally loses her grip on reality and attacks her own teammates, the Avengers - leading to the temporary deaths of Hawkeye, Vision, Ant-Man, and more in a story-arc titled Avengers: Disassembled. And of course, that story led to House of M – an even more complex reality-bending story that had its own easter egg in the WandaVision trailer.

The defeat of Mephisto and Immortus and the disappearance of the magically created William and Thomas wasn t the end of the twins story. The human portion of their souls, created from Scarlet Witch s power and Mephisto s dark magic, were reincarnated as the human children Billy Kaplan and Tommy Shepherd who, despite being born and raised separately, each developed mutant powers; with Billy able to alter reality through spellcasting like his mother Scarlet Witch, and Tommy able to run at super-speed like his uncle Quicksilver, Wanda s brother from comic books who perished in the MCU in Avengers: Age of Ultron and who had a more central role in Fox s later X-Men films.

Taking the codenames Wiccan and Speed, Billy and Tommy reunited as Young Avengers - teen heroes who stepped in following the dissolution of the original Avengers in the aforementioned Avengers: Dissassembled and who have connections to the classic team.

As part of the Young Avengers, Billy and Tommy discover their true heritage as the reincarnated children of Vision and Scarlet Witch, and embark on a quest to find her, encountering Quicksilver and Magneto – who was then believed to be Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver s father it s still kinda up in the air. 

They all discover Wanda is hidden in Latveria with Doctor Doom, who plans to marry the now amnesiac Scarlet Witch as part of the culmination of a longterm plan to manipulate her and harness her reality-altering power – a scheme that goes all the way back to Avengers: Disassembled, which is revealed to have all been influenced by Doctor Doom s dark magic as part of his plan to control Wanda.

Wanda and Wiccan are reunited, with Wiccan using magic to restore Wanda s memories, and confirm that he is truly her reincarnated son. The two reluctantly agree to help Doctor Doom cast a spell that Wanda intends to restore the powers of the mutants she depowered on M-Day, in the wake of Avengers: Disassembled and House of M.

But Doom seizes her reality powers instead, forcing Patriot of the Young Avengers to interrupt the ritual, leading to the death of his teammate Stature as in Cassie Lang, Ant-Man s daughter who has appeared in the MCU alongside her dad, but not before she s able to use Iron Lad s time-travel technology and Wanda s powers to rescue her father, Scott Lang, from his death in the past.

With Cassie dead she too, got better – and the vision board online destroyed in the final battle of the Avengers against Doctor Doom – the Young Avengers resolve to move forward.

Notably, since then, Wiccan Billy has gone on to marry his longtime love interest and Young Avengers teammate Hulkling, and become the official consort of Hulkling s combined KreeSkrull empire – as seen in this summer s cosmic comic book crossover Empyre.

With ties to Doctor Doom and Kang, the story of William and Thomas and their parents Scarlet Witch and Vision seems to be a possible bridge to the next era of the MCU. Considering both are canonically mutants in comic books, and the WandaVision trailer has a House of M Easter egg that may tie into mutants introduction into the MCU, it s a potential eventuality that Wiccan and Speed, their young adult alter egos, could factor into the emergence of mutants on film.

And then there s Agatha Harkness – who may actually appear in WandaVision. Though she hasn t been named, it s been hinted at that Kathryn Hahn s mysterious character may in fact be Agatha Harkness herself, perhaps one of the villains of the show. She was previously described as Nosey Neighbor seemingly an homage to the nosy neighbor Gladys from Bewitched and subtitles for the first trailer identify her as Agnes - not so different from Agatha, and perhaps a misdirection - after all, it s not like folks don t use fake names in the MCU all the time.

Remember it was Agatha Harkness who originally imbued Wanda with the dark magic that let her conjure her children, and who altered her memories of it – something for which she later paid the price, dying at Wanda s hand she came back to life, something she s been capable of doing multiple times.

Considering the roles Doctor Doom and Mephisto played in the original story of Scarlet Witch s children and their mother s downfall, could Harkness be an agent of either of these two notable villains?

And of course, that original story also included some involvement from Immortus, who wanted access to Wanda s ability to alter time through her reality-warping powers. Immortus is an older version of Kang, again reportedly the villain of Ant-Man .

Remember, Ant-Man died in the original Avengers: Disassembled and was resurrected thanks to the time-travel technology of Iron Lad – another of Kang s identities. Could that storyline be adapted into Ant-Man – and if so, what could it mean for the fate of Cassie Lang, who was aged to teen years in the five-year gap of Avengers: Endgame?

And since Cassie, Billy, and Tommy are all big parts of the Young Avengers - themselves likely candidates for an MCU film down the road - this could all be building to the assembly of that team as well, perhaps spread over several films in the tradition of their adult predecessors.

All of these connections through William and Thomas, along with that House of M Easter egg and Wanda s role in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness seem to add up to WandaVision being a crucial chapter in setting up the next epoch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

WandaVision will debut on DisneyPlus later this year, following some updates to the streaming service s MCU schedule.

WandaVision: What Big Marvel Cameos Could Happen?

During a recent interview, WandaVision star Elizabeth Olsen teased that we’re about to see a Mandalorian-level cameo happen in the Marvel series. Without fully spoiling the cameo she was referencing, it was a fan favorite from the Star Wars franchise who emerged in Mando’s Season 2 finale.

WandaVision featuring some notable guest stars hasn’t been a massive secret up until now, and a report that arrived way, way ahead of the premiere suggested that Evan Peters was about to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though it wasn’t known if the actor would play the X-Men version of Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver or not in the Disney+ show.

Olsen’s WandaVision co-star Paul Bettany built yet more hype around one particular addition to the series – possibly someone different to who Olsen was thinking of – and it didn’t really seem like he was talking about Peters.

“I work with this actor that I’ve always wanted to work with and we have fireworks together, the scenes are great and I think people are going to be really excited,” Bettany told the Lights Camera Barstool podcast. “I’ve always wanted to work with this guy and the scenes are pretty intense.”

Bettany also acknowledged some surprises from WandaVision had already leaked, but that the series was building up to a massive finale. “There were more special effects requirements for our TV show than there were for Endgame.”

WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer wasn’t keen to reveal who either Bettany or Olsen were referring to, but confirmed to TVLine that “there are so many surprises left in store” and that fans should settle in “because there’s more coming.”

Let’s have a look at some big potential cameos that could happen in WandaVision’s second half. Judging by Bettany and Olsen’s comments, they could be brand-new to the MCU or returning stars.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver

Though Evan Peters’ inclusion in WandaVision is practically a dead cert at this stage, the opportunity to bring Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s MCU version of Pietro Maximoff back for a cameo in the series could result in a much deeper connection to Wanda herself. The seeds of a potential Pietro return were sown in episode 3 of the Marvel spinoff series when Monica Rambeau – posing as ‘Geraldine’ – accidentally jolted Wanda out of her sitcom daze and back to reality by mentioning that her twin brother had previously been killed by Tony Stark’s villainous murder-bot, Ultron.

Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange

We’ve been told that the events of WandaVision and Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are directly connected, so the most reasonable assumption when it comes to a big upcoming cameo is that Stephen Strange will arrive at some point to tackle the mystical wildness going on in Westview.

But since there’s been chatter about Cumberbatch appearing in the show for some time, Strange being part of the proceedings wouldn’t be either a massive surprise or a particularly thrilling reveal at the end of the day, would it?

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine

Logan was confirmed to be Hugh Jackman’s swansong as his iconic X-Men character, but how hard would Marvel Studios have to push to get him back in action as Wolverine in the MCU? Kevin Feige hasn’t really shown any signs of tackling the X-Men again just yet, nor in fact mutants in general as part of the MCU’s reality, so Jackman reprising his role here would be firmly placed in the “unlikely” column.

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool

Could Ryan Reynolds make a tongue-in-cheek cameo as Deadpool? It does seem like a longshot. The meta setup of WandaVision is arguably the perfect place for Wade Wilson’s antihero to pop up and deliver a few fourth wall-breaking lines to camera, but the chances of Deadpool appearing so far in advance of his own MCU sequel feel fairly slim. Still, we’d love to see the Merc with a Mouth take stock of these strange sitcom scenes – where would he even start?

Michael Fassbender/ Ian McKellen as Magneto

For quite a while in Marvel Comics, Wanda Maximoff was thought to be the daughter of on-off X-Men villain Magneto, played by both Michael Fassbender and Sir Ian McKellen in Fox’s movie franchise. Wanda’s backstory has since been retconned, but there’s a sly joke about Evan Peters’ Pietro Maximoff being Erik’s son in the X-Men films. Could they re(re)retcon Scarlet Witch’s origins to bring back Magneto in WandaVision?

Er, we can likely put this on the Probably Not pile.

Mads Mikkelsen as Kaecilius

Kaecilius bid the world an unhappy farewell during the climax of Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange solo movie. The former Master of the Mystic Arts accidentally got his wish granted to live out the rest of eternity as part of Dormammu’s non-stop torment party in the Dark Dimension thanks to Doctor Strange’s time loop shenanigans, but fans of the actor who played the villain – Mads Mikkelsen – thought that dispatching him so early on in Strange’s evolution was a bit of a mistake. After all, why have just one injection of beloved Hannibal star Mikkelsen on screen when you can have, well, a lot more than one?

So, could Wanda messing with reality give Kaecilius an opportunity to escape Dormammu’s clutches and finally have his revenge? Hmm.

Patrick Stewart/James McAvoy as Charles Xavier

Much like Magneto, Charles Xavier has ties to Scarlet Witch in the comics, and if Wanda breaks down the walls between realities too far, we could start to see them bleed into each other, paving the way for an X-Men introduction in WandaVision. It’d be delightful to see either of these Professor X actors make a cameo during the show’s final episodes, but much like Magneto it could be quite far-fetched.

Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr appeared confident that he was completely done playing Iron Man in the MCU when Phase 3 wrapped up in 2019, but there could surely be no bigger surprise cameo in Disney+’s first Marvel spinoff series than an unlikely return by Tony Stark.

The question is, how could Iron Man possibly come back in WandaVision after he sacrificed his life at the end of Avengers: Endgame, and would it conceivably lead to more appearances by Downer Jr down the road?

Speaking of further appearances from someone we thought had left the MCU for good…

Chris Evans as Captain America

Deadline had some surprising news back in January when it published an exclusive report that claimed Chris Evans was in talks to reprise his role as Captain America in the MCU. It was teased that Steve Rogers could return in various future Marvel movies and shows as a sort of mentor for some of the other characters going forward.

It’s arguably way too early for Evans to show his face in WandaVision, and since Olsen and Bettany indicate that their show’s big cameos have yet to leak, Evans being “the one” should be put on the furthest backburner for now.

Keanu Reeves as Take Your Pick

We don’t yet know if WandaVision’s huge cameo will be from an already-established MCU character, though reports likening it to that of The Mandalorian’s season finale showstopper certainly indicate that it could be. This could all be a little sprinkle of distraction from Olsen and co., however, and a way to keep our minds off the introduction of a new villain who will connect the series to Doctor Strange 2.

Mephisto, Grim Reaper and Nightmare could all be nefarious additions to the MCU in Phase 4, and who better to play one of them than everyone’s favorite puppy avenger, Keanu Reeves? Reeves was close to joining the MCU in 2019’s Captain Marvel as Yon-Rogg before Jude Law landed the part. Has the in-demand actor continued to hold out for a meatier villain role?

Tom Cruise as Iron Man

Rumors that Tom Cruise has been desperate to join the MCU have been circulating for what seems like aeons. We doubt the man’s hurting for cash, but he did have designs on the Iron Man role before Downey Jr laid his claim, and there were definitely whisperings around the time of production on WandaVision that Marvel was trying to tempt Cruise aboard as an alternate reality version of Tony Stark for an appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Since WandaVision sets up the events of the now-filming sequel, could it be Cruise’s brief appearance that Olsen and Bettany are excited about us seeing? Bettany did describe filming with the actor in question as “intense” and that certainly lines up with the experiences other people working with Cruise have had to date.
