Just ran Vanaspati with Thancred, Raha, and Alisaie, and I gotta say; It's really easy to see how loved your WoL is when you take a mechanic to the face and all three companions fire off a heal at the exact same time.

Ok, for no good reason really, except @weiixian asked in a tag on a post I RBed:
How gay is Hikaru no Go on a scale of 1-10?
(First, you may want to check out my rec post.)
I’m going to answer SPECIFICALLY for the Chinese drama, because it’s more relevant and I’m trying to get people to watch it, lol.  There are really good analyses of the anime, anyway.  (Mild Spoilers for the drama below.)
So, to borrow language from this essay on AniGay, Hikaru no Go has always been implicitly and metaphorically gay, rather than explicitly gay.  The anime fits in with other sorta classically shipped animes in that ‘WOW those two boys are REALLY obsessed with each other, huh?’ kinda way.
But with Hikago, it’s really not accidental.  You get the sense the people making it really understand what they’re doing.
The same goes for the Cdrama, but even more so, I feel.  Now, it’s very on the downlow.  Someone could easily watch the drama and not notice the gay implications at all...at least until the last episode.
The drama actually goes FURTHER than the anime or manga in making it hard to ignore the implications.  It’s still 100% deniable, because they’re friends and rivals!  But, uh, they’re sharing a bed and like Totally Married by the end?
HOWEVER, there are 34 episodes to get through before the gay stuff starts being REALLY obvious.  So if your ONLY reason for watching something is to watch obvious romance, it’s probably not the show for you.  (I’d recommend an explicitly BL drama.)
I do think the show is good, and engaging, though IMO it picks up as it goes and you have to get past the first few episodes to know if you’ll enjoy it.  The main actor doesn’t even appear until ep 3.  There are a lot of enjoyable side characters and emotions to be had that have absolutely nothing to do with the main ship.
The drama of the Go matches and world is very compelling and you become super invested over time.  (Less so in the drama than the anime, tho.)  But really, there’s a reason this story has been adapted multiple times.  It’s very good.
There’s also the side-ship of Fang Xu/ Bai Cheun.  This also doesn’t really show it’s shippiness until the last couple of episodes, though they interact throughout.  This is a drama-only ship, btw.  Also Fang Xu is super attractive eyecandy, okay.  I just need to get that out there.
But overall it’s a coming of age story, in the context of a game, pursuing a dream, making choices, making friends, struggling, achieving, dealing with losses...the gay is basically a cherry on top?
So it’s difficult to rate.  Do I think the show writers and actors are completely aware of the undertones and even play them up?  Yes.  Like by the end state how gay is it?  Like a 7 or 8?
But for most of its run?  Maybe a 3.  It’s hard to rate because it is so subtle.  Which honestly makes it perfect for a Chinese censorship environment.  Or the general anime market 20 years ago, tbh.

Masterlist of Amedot Moments & Tidbits
This is a post I originally made and maintained starting around the time Beta came out, but accidentally deleted it recently (rip the hundreds of notes it had accumulated). Luckily, I was able to find an earlier version via Google Cache, so behold: the edited masterlist, ten whole pages long in Google Docs. As of 1/30/2021, this contains every moment from the show and comics and won’t be updated unless more media is released in the future.
If you can think of anything I might’ve missed, please let me know! Reblogs are obviously welcome. I’ve also got a video of all amedot moments in the show if that interests you. Amedot rights!
IRL
Amethyst and peridot gemstones are commonly paired together in jewelry, similar to how ruby and sapphire (a canon couple) are.
There has been a fair bit of art of them drawn by the crew. There are multiple pieces of them interacting by Danny Cragg, Maya Peterson has drawn art of them (she has an amedot tag of her own art on her tumblr, plus some other romantically suggestive art of them together), Nicole Rodriguez has drawn shippy art of them (she doesn’t have an amedot tag, but some can be found in her peridot tag), comic writer Grace Kraft has drawn them (she has a tag), and Rebecca Sugar has drawn them together, too.
Catch and Release
When Peridot is running up the stairs, Amethyst pulls out her whip and says “Hey” to Peridot in a rather provocative tone.
Too Far
Peridot is obviously desperate for Amethyst to pay attention to her and see her as cool. She made jokes about the other gems to impress her (even if she was unknowingly being rude) and said to Steven that she thought she was being “cool” by doing so, and tries to make Amethyst laugh with her names for things (ex. “rythmatic pulverizer”). This behavior is typical of someone who has a crush, and was not just due to Amethyst’s status as a quartz; Peridot argues with and states that she dislikes Jasper, another quartz (and not a defective one, at that).
Peridot was visibly upset when Amethyst didn’t find her funny and said she felt “smaller” when Amethyst gave her the cold shoulder.
Peridot goes out of her way to save Amethyst from the drill head, even managing to break her leash in effort to do so.
After saving Amethyst, Peridot is shown to have fallen on her; that and her reaction seem to reference the anime trope where the character will fall on their love interest and immediately become flustered.
Peridot’s apology at the end of the episode! This is probably the most heartfelt apology she’s given (compared to her actions at the end of Back to the Barn and throughout Barn Mates), and she specifically calls Amethyst “the best gem here”. She also admits that she was in the wrong with her statements and this is the first time she does so – compare with Back to the Barn, where she acts like Pearl needed to prove herself to her before Peridot could apologize. In that way, this was a huge turn for her character.
That little exchange of smiles at the end. It’s adorable.
Steven’s Birthday
Amethyst invites Peridot to join them and even blows up a cute lil Peridot-shaped balloon.
It Could’ve Been Great
Peridot tries to impress Amethyst with her knowledge about gems (specifically how they immediately adjust to the gravity of any planetoid), and is disappointed/surprised when Amethyst doesn’t find it interesting.
Peridot tries to compliment Amethyst by saying that the Beta Kindergarten was nowhere near as impressive as the Kindergarten Amethyst originated from.
Message Received
Aside from Steven, Amethyst was the most visibly upset at Peridot’s betrayal, likely due to how close they were.
Log Date 7 15 2
When trying on the paint cans Steven gives to her, Peridot is shown to want to impress Amethyst with her new height. She also wants to show it off to Pearl, but she’s specifically trying to help Amethyst, whereas it’s just her height she wants to show Pearl; she wants Pearl to see how tall she is, and wants Amethyst to see how capable she is and actually wants to do something to actively help her.
If we assume Peridot’s shipping chart represents the gems, and that the green is Peridot and the purple is Amethyst, it is clearly shown that they are paired together.
Peridot’s descriptions seem to imply that Percy and Pierre represent Peridot and Amethyst respectively, and she obviously thinks those two belong together. At the very least, the pairs have similarities.
Amethyst says that she uses shapeshifting to be cool and directly shapeshifts into Peridot, showing that she obviously thinks Peridot is cool.
Amethyst is shown to know Peridot well enough to perfectly mimic her speech patterns, and says that she has been practicing doing so. She also says it’s “hard to beat the original”, to which Peridot responds to by blushing and giggling.
Peridot states that she finds Amethyst’s company entertaining.
Barn Mates
Peridot seems to be picking up some phrasing from spending time with Amethyst, directly referenced in the “Holy smokes!” scene.
Hit the Diamond
As soon as Peridot says that she’s scared, Amethyst immediately decides to ambush the Rubies in her defense.
Too Short to Ride
Peridot shows off her tablet-velcro innovation to Amethyst, attempting to impress her again.
Amethyst tries to win Peridot’s desired prize for her.
Amethyst gives a whole little speech to Peridot about how they like her for who she is, which shows that Amethyst genuinely likes Peridot for who she is and wants her to enjoy herself.
Amethyst tries to throw away Peridot’s tablet. While not necessarily the right thing to do, she was still trying to help Peridot in doing so. This also unintentionally means that Amethyst is the reason Peridot discovered her powers.
Amethyst also casually touches Peridot a lot throughout this episode (ex. putting her arm around her shoulders). Peridot doesn’t seem to mind this, in stark contrast to how she reacts when Mr. Smiley touched her.
Beta
Peridot is obviously very excited to see Amethyst; she runs down to see her, arms open wide, shouting her name happily.
Peridot is excited to show her art off to Amethyst (and specifically Amethyst).
When Steven tells Peridot why Amethyst is upset, Peridot doesn’t hold her attitude against her and immediately tries to make her feel better by telling her that she’s better than Jasper and insulting Jasper’s Kindergarten. I mean, it’s not the best way of comforting someone, but Peridot hasn’t been shown to be particularly good at comforting people.
This episode makes Amethyst the first person for Peridot to give affectionate nicknames (Ams, Big A).
Peridot is also obviously more physical with Amethyst (for example, putting her arm around Amethyst’s shoulder) similar to how Amethyst was with her in Too Short to Ride, even though Peridot seems to be have an aversion with physical contact except with those she is very close with.
Earthlings
Peridot seemed particularly worried when Amethyst left to fight Jasper, even more so than Steven did.
They both seemed to share a mutual desire to protect one another. Even so, they were also trying to protect Steven, so this doesn’t necessarily solely indicate romantic interest.
Back to the Moon
When Amethyst walked away from Peridot during Doc’s rant, Peridot reached out to her for a few moments.
The Kindergarten Kid
Given Peridot’s previous attempts to impress Amethyst, her behavior at the beginning of the episode seems to be in attempt to show off to her. She may also be trying to show off to the other three Crystal Gems as well, but she specifically says some things in response to Amethyst and has tried to impress her more in the past than the others, so this is possibly directed more at her.
Amethyst is the most clearly insulted by Peridot’s comments at the beginning of the episode, showing that she really does care about her opinion. However, she forgives her after Peridot beats the corrupted gem and admits her misjudgments.
Amethyst is the first to compliment Peridot’s ability to bubble.
Last One Out of Beach City
When they arrive at the party, Amethyst tells Pearl to talk to a nerd. While this isn’t necessarily just referring to Amethyst and Peridot’s own relationship, it could be interpreted that way, as Amethyst calls Peridot a nerd rather frequently.
Adventures in Light Distortion
Amethyst seems to be actively listening to and taking interest in Peridot’s comments about the space ship, shown further when she refers to Peridot saying the gravity engine “bends reality”. While not necessarily romantic, it does show how their relationship has developed since It Could’ve Been Great, when she mostly ignores Peridot’s similar comments.
The New Crystal Gems
When Lapis says she doesn’t know who Amethyst is, Peridot seems visibly annoyed.
Peridot indirectly states that she thinks Amethyst has a good sense of humor (an opinion which she has voiced multiple times before).
Back to the Kindergarten
Amethyst’s entire motivation in this episode is to cheer Peridot up; she obviously cares a lot about her wellbeing and emotional health. It is obviously very effective, as Peridot begins to feel better throughout the episode in direct response to Amethyst’s actions, which goes to show just how well Amethyst knows her, and how much Peridot cares about Amethyst’s opinion.
The first time Peridot smiles since the beginning of her depression is in direct response to Amethyst complimenting her. She’s also very visibly blushing.
The two are essentially flirting throughout the entire episode. Amethyst poses while leaning against a wall while complimenting Peridot resulting in the above reaction, they joke with each other while gardening, and at one point Peridot can be heard speaking passionately to Amethyst about their project while Amethyst smiles at her with half-closed eyes. Amethyst replies, “Oh yeah?” in a tone that sounds very obviously flirtatious.
Again, Amethyst is shown to casually touch Peridot a lot; she puts her hand on her shoulder and even picks her up and carries her at one point. Again, Peridot is perfectly okay with it.
The gardening project happened because of Amethyst, and ultimately is what taught Peridot that even when some things are beyond saving, there is always hope to be found somewhere, and sometimes you have to move on. This is another major character development for her - again, one caused directly by Amethyst.
Letters to Lars
Amethyst and Peridot are seen doing improv together and seem to consistently agree with and encourage each other. While this isn’t necessarily romantic, it does show that they have been spending a good deal of time together casually offscreen.
Can’t Go Back
While Lapis is spying on the Crystal Gems on Earth, Peridot can be seen looking upset. Amethyst approaches Garnet and Pearl in what seems to be a worried way, and the three of them talk to Peridot, who eventually seems to brighten up. It seems like Amethyst noticed that Peridot was upset and came to the others with her concerns, leading to them cheering Peridot up, making her the direct cause in Peridot’s change in attitude and showing, again, that she cares for her emotional state.
As the Crystal Gems walk away, the projection of Peridot is the first to walk through Lapis, followed by Amethyst. This could be symbolism; Peridot is moving on from Lapis and her sadness over her leaving, with help from and while forging a stronger relationship with Amethyst.
Made of Honor
Amethyst and Peridot are seen standing together and casually interacting on multiple occasions throughout the episode - more than either with anyone else.
At one point, Peridot leans back on a chair while talking to Amethyst before falling over. The way it’s posed looks like a pretty textbook example of flirting (
and then making a fool out of oneself in attempt to flirt).
At the end of the episode, Amethyst puts her arm around Peridot’s shoulder. This is, yet again, an example of how physical they are with each other.
Reunited
Like in Made of Honor, Amethyst and Peridot are seen standing together and casually interacting multiple times onscreen.
Peridot is very physical with Amethyst in this episode, grabbing her arm and hiding behind her and pushing her in attempt to help push Steven’s shield. This shows again how physical they are with each other, and again shows that Peridot is very comfortable being physical with Amethyst (noticeably more so than with any other character at this point) despite her aversion to contact.
They can be seen bragging to each other about how they attacked Blue Diamond. Bismuth is also there, but they noticeably seem to be directing their boasts at each other.
Change Your Mind
Peridot and Amethyst seem to be taking inspiration from each other on their new regenerations. Amethyst has a triangle shape around her gem now, and Peridot has her stars on her knees like Amethyst’s old designs.
After the battle with White Diamond, Peridot immediately runs over to Amethyst and practically tackle hugs her. This is far more physical than she’s been with anyone else before in the series, and they both seem genuinely overjoyed to be with each other. Amethyst also holds her hand up right beforehand, either to wave or high five her.
Steven Universe: The Movie
When Amethyst recovers from Spinel’s attack, Peridot doesn’t initially realize that she’s back to normal and reacts very strongly upon seeing her, exclaiming that she can’t bear to see Amethyst “vacant and bereft of personality”. Interestingly, Peridot doesn’t seem affected at all to see Ruby, Sapphire, Garnet, or Pearl in such a state, but she’s so upset by the sight of Amethyst reduced to a shell of herself that she physically refuses to look at her.
In addition, Peridot immediately changes attitude and reacts excitedly when Amethyst tells her that she’s back to normal, despite the fact that the world is in dire threat of destruction.
When the gems are seen working on repairing the city towards the end of the movie, Peridot can be seen riding inside of Amethyst (who is shape shifted into a crane) to put up the donut on the Big Donut. They share a wink and a smile while doing this. It would have been just as easy for Amethyst to put it up on her own; Peridot isn’t really doing much to help, she’s just chilling there to hang out with Amethyst.
Bluebird
Throughout the episode, Amethyst and Peridot are the only two characters to point out that Steven likes tomato soup. Of course, this isn’t really evidence and by no means indicates anything romantic, but it does highlight how similar their thought patterns have become in certain ways. It’s reminiscent of the “Holy smokes!” scene back in Barn Mates.
Everything’s Fine
Peridot mentions to Steven that Amethyst told her that he was prohibited from messing with plants. Since Steven Universe: Future focuses so heavily on Steven, the other gems don’t interact all that much, but this makes it clear that Amethyst and Peridot, at least, are hanging out offscreen.
2017-Present Comic Series
Please note that all the comics are written by different people, and are considered “level 2 canon”; rather, not inherently canon but you’re free to consider them canon as long as they don’t contradict the show. Any italicized points are from entirely non-canon comics that directly contradict the show in some way. Even the non-italicized ones are not necessarily canon, however.
All throughout Issue 4 (in which Amethyst, Peridot, and Steven visit a renaissance fair together), Amethyst and Peridot are continuously very physical with each other, especially Amethyst towards Peridot.
When Steven calls Peridot cute, Amethyst can be seen blushing and holding her hands up to her face in a way that shows her clearly gushing over how “cute” Peridot is. While this is pretty typical behavior for Steven regarding cute things, it really isn’t for Amethyst; she just thinks Peridot is that adorable.
Amethyst is very excited when Peridot wins a joust, notably more so than Steven.
In Issue 9 (in which Vidalia gives Peridot and Lapis art lessons), Amethyst models for them. Peridot is notably very enthusiastic while illustrating her.
Amethyst seems concerned for Peridot specifically when she and Lapis start arguing.
In Issue 11 (in which Steven, Lapis, and Peridot take part in a cooking competition), Peridot runs into Amethyst at the competition and is especially happy to see her.
In Issue 17 (aka Peridot Becomes A Gamer), Amethyst is the first of the Crystal Gems to try to convince Peridot to get out and do stuff.
She also seems to be cheering for Peridot during her match against Pearl.
Although Peridot had been entirely immersed in the video game when the others first approached her and then smug during her match against Pearl, she actually indulges in some genuinely lighthearted banter with Amethyst before their match. She actually seems pretty happy, despite the context of the comic. In turn, she also reacts downright fondly when Amethyst loses.
Amethyst is also the first to comfort Peridot when she admits that she’s been using video games to cope with Lapis leaving, and in turn opens up to her a bit in attempt to empathize.
In Issue 33 (in which Peridot introduces Amethyst and Pearl to Camp Pining Hearts), Amethyst is the first to approach her and asks to watch the show with her.
Amethyst and Pearl make Peridot blush when they agree to continue watching CPH with her.
It’s Amethyst’s comment about Percy and Paulette’s lack of chemistry that gets Peridot excited; she blushes and gets the star effect in her eyes.
Harmony
Peridot and Amethyst are seen paired together throughout the course of the comics, walking close to each other, sitting together inside the Harmony Core, etc.
There’s a panel where Peridot’s Twitter is visible, and Amethyst is, interestingly, the only other gem visible in her image gallery.
Camp Pining Play
At one point during rehearsal, Amethyst comes up behind Peridot and announces herself while sparkling.
Peridot is clearly impressed and enthusiastic about Amethyst’s acting abilities.
Crystal Clean
Similarly to in Harmony, Peridot and Amethyst are often paired together.
Amethyst is also physical with Peridot like in the show, grabbing Peridot’s arm once she gets onto the warp pad at one point, which Peridot doesn’t seem to mind.
Directly after this, when they warp back into the temple, Amethyst seems to be standing in front of Peridot in a protective position.
Misc.
Peridot and Amethyst’s relationship has been consistently shown to advance the plot and cause them to develop as people – it is undebatable that they are important to each other’s characters and the plot as a whole.
Amethyst has more nicknames for Peridot over the course of a few episodes than she has for any other character, including characters like Steven and Pearl who she has known for the entire series.
Overall, there are actually quite a few parallels to rupphire (one saving the other soon after meeting (Too Far and The Answer, with one even being followed directly by the other, drawing further attention to this), both couples being short with somewhat opposing color schemes, one being higher ranked and the other lower ranked on the gem caste system, one acting on emotions and the other one logic, etc.) The parallel is strengthened in Steven Universe: The Movie, when Sapphire saves Ruby from a berserk pizza cutter; this scene is even more similar to the drill scene from Too Far.
As with rupphire, amedot also parallels conniverse in the sense that one saved the other when they had very little knowledge of each other, both are short in stature with somewhat opposing dispositions, etc.
Relating to the former two points, Rebecca Sugar has called the act of saving another in such a way as was done in The Answer as “ridiculously romantic”. Given all the parallels with two of the show’s largest ships and then this

I’m kind of in a mood suddenly so below the cut there will be me just talking about fanfics I have read or am reading and why I like fanfic and stuff because I need to just
Fanfiction fucking rocks the basic part before all the stuff about it as the story just...it’s so easy to access and there’s so much and it’s just all there on the internet I don’t have to find a physical book
And on AO3 (where 90% of good currently-updating fic is afaik) there is TAGGING where you will know what you’re getting into (unless the author suddenly adds a sex scene and only then updates the tags but at least they give a warning at the start of the chapter but it doesn’t bother me as much as it did a couple years ago as long as I know it’s coming I know it’s a tool and it has its uses) with character drama and deaths and all that jazz not to mention how Ash being a badass has a specific tag and just other random things having tags that are important parts of the story
Like there are multiple fics I have found (not all of them are living fics sadly) of writing Ash’s journey in the beginning differently, like there was one I saw once that I kind of forgot to keep reading where he went to Sinnoh (and was still rivals with Paul and I think their ship tag was there?) and it said it was following game plot and then there’s one that I definitely don’t have open anymore because it didn’t update for some amount of time where he had a Joltik and then a Ferroseed and it’s really cool and a different one that’s still living and it’s called Pity of the World and Jesse + James (who is genderfluid in this fic) + Meowth are good people and stuff and just steal abused Pokemon and they run into Ash and they all end up being travel buddies and Ash understands Pokemon (not literally of course that’s not this fic) and also just knows what James’ gender is before they say anything and also in one chapter Zapdos is in Gringy City and says something about friendship being for mortals or something??? idk we’ll see and then there’s a different fic that I was reading and lost when switching devices and Ash was raised by Pokemon and literally can speak Pokemon and it was really neat but I haven’t tried to find where I left off because I’m too lazy for that tbh but it is still updating it’s Symbiosis or Symbiotic or something like that
Most things involving Ash that aren’t shippy or weird like that (ok there are some I’m not interested in but whapdfajaldjakjdf) end up being really cool because he’s a fucking legendary magnet which can either be played for laughs or deadly serious or just not be part of the fic if it isn’t relevant and so many fics use Aura it’s really cool (including Pity of the World I think he mega evolves Pidgeot (who evolves before leaving) when he fights Sabrina who does not have a doll in this fic) and there are different ways they do it and the thing I was mentioning about his connection with Pokemon like maybe it’s just a bit more than normal or it’s just yes he is everything and I kinda skipped out on gens 6 and 7 of the anime but I get enough to understand what they mean in chat fics and when referring to it in other fics it’s really cool
I think I mentioned Creepypasta and how there were two Harry Potter Creepypasta fics, one that was one and was slow to update if it wasn’t dead and one that was on the fourth one actually I was wrong about what number it was I think and updates every two weeks the first one is more lighthearted/written by a younger person like Slendy is a character and Harry x a lot of the ‘pastas I guess and it takes place starting before 4th year and the beginning is kinda meh with some weird dialogue and absurd levels of Dumbledore Ron and Hermione bashing but it does call out some of the other legitimate problems like how the lake trial in the tournament just kidnaps people which is very big because it was Ben who was kidnapped so big yikes there and honestly it’s not what you want to read if you want something really high-quality and serious like not that it doesn’t take itself seriously but it feels closer to something I would have read when I was in middle school than most of the Sanders Sides fics I read (just using that as comparison because the vast majority of that is well-written stuff). Then the other one!!!! For one it has a much more realistic/developed take on the Creepypastas’ existence like how the stories are how they exist with Slenderman being a cosmic horror being thing more than a character with character which is always really cool and Jeff kidnaps Harry as a baby (he is Boy when he is with the Creepypasta and Harry when at Hogwarts and there’s some really cool stuff about how they’re different) and, having lived with murderers, Harry gives zero fucks about things and kills Fluffy in the first book long before other stuff happens, Quirrel tries to use him to get the stone but gets annihilated at the mirror because family and then Voldemort is just a giant white snake for the rest of the series so far and also because he sucks Lockhart tries to exorcise Harry because Harry is fucking nuts and it’s great and also Harry is a Hufflepuff and there is probably more Gryffindor bashing than is necessary and pretty much all the adults get bashed for sucking (like in book 3 the boggart stuff is called out for being hella dangerous for them also Harry can’t cast the Patronus charm make of that what you will idk what) though Harry does make for quite the conversation topic among the teachers, Harry x Neville is the main ship and Neville eventually gets resorted into Hufflepuff because the Gryffindors are being massive dicks to him, also Harry flirts with Draco because Harry gives no fucks and it’s great (also both books give Luna lots of love, like the young one she’s a Seer like from Madame Macabre’s old webcomic that’s dead as it gets and the long one she’s just a good character and shit) and Harry makes these books to spread Slenderman’s legend throughout Britain/the Wizarding World and Draco may have gotten one and survived???? but now Neville has one during the summer months (and also through feeding Fanged Geraniums or whatever live stuff and blood instead of bonemeal he is creating Audrey II and straight-up says something about having to call it Harry Jr. but that’s probably just a little joke and isn’t going to stay beyond this but it’s just fun because Little Shop of Horrors slaps) and I have big fear about him doing the stuff and getting hurt and Harry/Boy conflict will be scary
There’s this other fic I found when trying to find good fics involving Ash and it’s kinda weird and seems to be written by a younger author but we’ll see where things go, like Harry got transported by Celebi to the world of Pokemon and Giovanni is Silver and Ash’s dad and they live with him and also Harry does too and he’s in a wheelchair and also is really smart and I wish we had gotten to spend a bit longer seeing their dynamics before when Harry is 14 the Goblet of Fire somehow spits his name out and Celebi helps with getting Harry (and also the other three because of course) safely there without dying because dimensional travel is hard and Celebi is friend and Luna gets to be important here too I think she’s shown up as a named student and guided them to a room and seems to know things about the castle and that’s kinda all there is so far there’s a bit more but it’s not got a lot yet I hope the author keeps going it’s a weird idea but I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes
Oh I forgot to talk about it but there’s this whump Ash fic that was being written under one title but it got dropped and now it’s being rewritten with the same concept but under a new title and going about a lot of things a different way it’s just the same starting premise and the fic is Helpless and Ash almost dies multiple times and there’s this theme of adults failing him and also Gary fucks a thing up and Ash needs support and therapy (a good number of fics have Ash needing therapy but given the shit he’s been through that is not surprising especially from my limited knowledge of Kalos holy shit Lysandre was doing some mad shit) and it’s just good but it is a lot of hospital and Ash being hurt and almost dying so be warned if that isn’t a safe read for you
The reason I don’t just outright block explicit anymore despite the horrors of trying to find safe Pokemon fic on AO3 amidst the consensual porn, incest porn, pokephilia porn, etc., is I randomly decided to try and find some Sonic fanfic on AO3 because a couple people on YouTube have been doing Sonic story stuff (Sonic What If has some good stuff that’s just... what-if scenarios and then there’s Sonic Rewritten which takes a game’s plot and then redoes it but good like the Deadly Six having personalities or Sonic 06 not having maybe bestiality or Generations being more than ‘oh past and present stages now have nostalgia’ and Robotnik and Eggman are significantly different people in that one and it’s really cool) and I thought maybe I would find some good stuff on AO3 (which I have but nothing that I want to ramble about specifically though there was one fic where Eggman does Tails clone and then his original body dies so he’s stuck looking like Tails and it’s kinda wild) and I found a fic that was marked explicit because torture and violence (honestly it wasn’t that bad) and I like it and don’t want to miss something that I might like by accidentally blocking it and now when I try to find Pokemon fic I have to see Leon x Hop and Pokemon x human smut.
There’s one Sanders Sides fic that I was reading and I don’t remember the name nor do I know if it’s updating I think I lost it but it started from the beginning of the series with the Dark Sides being a platonic poly family and when they weren’t in the episode they were talking about it/the Light Sides and it’s honestly really really good and the author just decided to have Deceit’s name be Janus and it was amazing when it turned out that was his real name it was just great but IDK if the fic has been abandoned, I think I lost it in the shift, but it was really good (but sympathetic dark sides and unsympathetic patton and roman and logan for a bit so do be warned if those aren’t comfortable for you)
Oh yeah I remembered another fic I can talk about there was this one Creepypasta fic and it’s completed and it is a Jeff x Reader but it kind of just stops being about the romance after a certain point and just goes way off the rails. It starts like ‘oh this will be a normal x reader with mansion and Slendy is dad and Zalgo is probably evil’ and then NOPE SLENDERMAN HAS BEEN RAISING FAMILIES THAT LOVE HIM TO TURN THEM INTO CRYSTALS TO MAKE HIM MORE POWERFUL AND ZALGO IS AGAINST THAT and it just is great like I never see Zalgo being good, like Slenderman being evil or whatever is plenty common (especially in the innumerable ARG fics I don’t read because I don’t have the attention span to learn what the fuck the source is) but never in tandem with Zalgo being anything but chaotic evil n shit it’s wild and it’s great and also Slenderman’s parents have faces I guess idk that was weird also there is one smut chapter but like the author said you can skip the smut and I did and didn’t feel like I missed any plot stuff so if that’s a no for you just keep an eye out for the author’s warning. It is by a younger writer, as demonstrated by its daily updates while it was being written, tiny chapters, and some general writing style stuff common to younger writers, but honestly I just love it for being something so wildly different, under the guise of a typical x Reader fic.
Speaking of ship stuff and Creepypasta the trilogy of Sans x Creepypasta fics are amazing. The writer definitely improves over time, the beginning of the first book kind of has the weird ‘then I knew I was in love’ stuff from a couple of the pastas (then again I’m ace and demiro so starting romance is just generally weird) but it is just a really good series. Sans ends up with seven kids in the third book and, while everyone else in the Undertale cast is bashed in the first two, Papyrus does seem to get some redemption in the third, so there is that. Also Murderer Sans is a fantastic tag, Gaster made a deal with Zalgo to create the skelebros and Sans is more demon than Papyrus by a lot and Zalgo is trying to kidnap Sans and Sans’ children so he has his family together to destroy the world and wander free and it’s wild and also Chara and Flowey show up and also LJ being an angel is mentioned and relevant to the plot for a bit so that’s neat and I don’t know all the details of how it ends because I lost it when I shifted and didn’t want to find where I was but it’s a great fic (albeit with a few things I can argue on) and the author has also been writing other Sans x Creepypasta stuff but I haven’t read it because idk
I really wish I had a good Minecraft fanfic to gush about but I really don’t it’s hard to find Minecraft fic that isn’t tuber-based, either Dream and friends (which occasionally I find a good one but so much is either Dream SMP which I have no interest in getting into, involves people I don’t know from Dream SMP, or just is shippy or straight-up doesn’t have a premise I’m interested in) or Hermitcraft (I fell behind so I have no idea what’s happening anymore) (but also like Mianite and Aphmau stuff but not as much as used to, but now Dream rules all so), and it just sucks. Like if some of it was Team Crafted fic I would be on board like hell yeah give me that nostalgia juice but it’s so much shit I just don’t know. I love the idea of Minecraft fanfic because there are so many options for the world and you can either make your own characters and you probably have to but then there’s just if you use Steve Alex Herobrine or Notch how they are written depends on the author and I live for that shit it’s a big part of why I read Creepypasta fic it’s because I like when there are different ways characters can be done (not unsympathetic or sympathetic like Patton so much like straight-up different characters) like Herobrine and Notch are the big ones like good vs evil, involved vs not, serious vs comedic, there are so many different ways to play them and I’m so disappointed AO3 doesn’t have much of it and so much of it is just Dream stuff and it usually just isn’t what I’m after in a fic.
The only other fics coming to mind right now are two wildly different fics involving Springtrap x Reader, one of them is being transferred from Wattpad for copy reasons, complete with tiny-ass chapters and that language that’s just so middle-school in the best way possible (like William and Springtrap are different consciousnesses and they way the author describes their struggle at one point is just so similar to a stupid thing I did and I have so much affection for it) and the other is legitimately really really good and the reader-insert has recently found out that Springtrap is William Afton and has murdered many children and they are currently dying multiple times to help his victims pass on because they can see ghosts and it’s actually really good and I have no idea where things are going, reader has currently met up with Michael Afton, currently all purple and dead and stuff, and has learned about remnant (weird-ass shit from modern FNAF lore) and it’s getting wild. I feel like there are two types of FNAF fic, ones in the style of FNAF 3/4 and earlier and ones from maybe 4 onward. Like ones where the lore was basically ‘bad man committed murder against children and they’re possessing the animatronics and that’s why they’re trying to kill you’ and then 4 starts having some more expansive lore ish and then after that it just goes everywhere with remnant and scooping and even more locations and also the books matter probably??? There is this one fic involving Glitchtrap that hasn’t updated in a bit and it’s fun, I like the idea of Glitchtrap and really wish I could read more fic just centered around FNAF VR. Then again, BEN was always one of my favorites and after I stopped being absolutely terrified of Herobrine I really liked his possibilities, maybe I just like the story utility and possible execution of characters with wide-ranging powers over technology and affecting the real world outside of it, IDK.
Ok I’m out of ramble energy, and also topics unless I go more in-depth about specific character options, but my energy is gone so I think that’s the end of it. I typed 3,000 words about fanfictions I’m reading and probably could have talked more about some of them if I wanted. This is my new hyperfixation. I guess. At least I know I have one, it’s reassuring to know for some reason, like for a while I missed how much Pokemon was my life in elementary school and Minecraft was in sixth grade, like it was nice just having something to focus on, though maybe that’s just the college and depression talking.
That was good, I’m glad I did that. Y’all are loved.
If you seriously read this entire thing... Wow. I really appreciate you digitally listening to me talking about random fanfic shit that I like. You’re really really cool.

SO many thoughts on Frozen 2
So I've been doing a lot of thinking on Frozen 2 after reading a lot of other fan ideas, reviews, etc, and rewatching the first movie and basically obsessing myself into an interesting state of mind. I HAVE A LOT TO SAY. I accidentally wrote out a long, long, LONG post so uh, congrats if you read it. SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SURE.
1. My biggest thought by far is in regards to people saying that Elsa found herself in the first movie, and why must she struggle through who she is again? Well...because you don't stop finding yourself, and especially at a young age. I'm 33. I think I got past hurdles in expressing myself and accepting who I am, everything from what were weird interests (to me) and even my own sexuality, three of four damn times. It was annoying. And fascinating. And each time there were deep emotions and investment in it.
Elsa found in the first movie she's not a dangerous monster and that she could exist with and love her sister. That's huge, don't get me wrong! But the anxiety was still there and we still see traces of it in the second movie. It didn't up and vanish no matter how many snow toys she might make children or how many times she skated with Anna. And with that kind of high anxiety, and after years and years and YEARS of locking herself away, she was just at the start of things I'd say by the time the first Frozen ended.
It's totally reasonable, imo, that down the road after finding some acceptance in herself and Anna, she would be wondering WHY she is what she is, where she came from, as there's so much mystery in her life. Her parents left her feeling guilty, lonely, ironically powerless, locked up, and with no damn answers for herself. She needs to find herself.
Arguably, so does Anna. Again, I can make similar arguments for her, lonely in the first movie, not much contact with others, striving so hard to be close to her sister. She achieved the latter admirably, and so her journey to find who she is with access to more of the world is a big deal. She always wants to open a door. And she wants to go through each one with Elsa, which is something that had to be handled at least a little.
Again, you never really stop growing, discovering, and questioning. Elsa may have found a huge, huge part of herself, found why she is there and who she is, but I'm sure she will still struggle a little with her new place in the world. This brings me to another subject -
2. Elsa and Anna now separated. There seems to be a lot of division on this topic, and I get it. I didn't really want them apart either. They really do belong in each other's company. And a note, I don't ship Elsa and Anna, so maybe I've lost some of you here ahaha (I don't really ship anyone though). I love their close cuddly sister relationship a lot and felt they were absolutely robbed of it for so long which is probably WHY they often hug, hold hands, touch each other, are somehow right with each other.
However...at least for the time being I think it's also important for their growth as characters. Elsa and Anna both care for Arendelle, but Elsa didn't feel she was 'meant' to be there, so to force herself there for her sister could be damaging when understandably, she would want to understand more about the spirits and the forest that gifted her mother with her. She is a part of the forest, of the Ahtohallan. And to force herself into a role she isn't dedicated to wouldn't be in Arendelle's best interest, so she wouldn't want that either. Elsa has shown she needs that understanding of her role, needs to be where she feels right, somewhere that speaks to her, and for now that is in the forest with the Northuldra people.
Anna loves Arendelle, loves the people, and to ask her to stay in a place where she doesn't belong wouldn't be right either. Sure, part of probably just nodded and said yes because Elsa proposed the split, but Anna also learned that she can do what can be done without her sister. Thinking her sister was dead, she still put on foot in front of the other and achieved her goal of destroying the dam. I do believe for now just the knowledge of knowing Elsa is alive and thriving is enough for her to feel happy.
They also see each other. That much is left clear to us and it's not a long journey for Elsa lol. Probably not for Anna either when Elsa can guide wind, earth and water to help. ...Fire too but yea lol.
They are apart just enough. Elsa can still drop in and have Anna cuddle her to sleep while Kristoff does...idk...talks with Sven. For as many cuddle nights as I imagine those two have had, Kristoff is a pretty chill dude.
3. The parents. Hooboy the parents. A very valid criticism is that Elsa and Anna's parents treated Elsa totally mcfreaking WRONG and yet so much centers around them, and then suddenly Elsa is dueting with her momma in Ahtohallan and crying.
Yea there's some confusing emotions going on there.
The girls loved their parents a lot regardless of if they really messed up. I am sure Elsa didn't know how to feel but didn't want to lose them as she already felt alone and hidden. The topic has come up that her dad knew the forest, her mom was FROM THE FREAKIN PLACE, so how did they mishandle so badly?
Panic, I think. I view it as a lot of panic, for many reasons. Anna being hurt was the primary one, but I wondered if they thought it could indeed lead to the forest waking up and causing trouble. They didn't expect magic outside the forest, didn't know what impact it could have and Iduna never exactly counted on having Elsa as she was.
I don't think they were bad people. Just unprepared and I kind of think this is how it went down with Ahtohallan as well. I posted about this before but I feel like...her parents weren't able to cross, not even her mom, because of how they squandered their gift. They took something wonderful and locked her away, made her conceal and hide from the spirits that wanted to connect with her. So when they decided to sail off and find answers and leave the girls alone, the spirits said "nope, you messed up, you don't get to come in here" and down went their ship.
But to complete Elsa there had to be something, they had to connect her with her mother's heritage and tie her to her meaning in the world. So, Ahtohallan showed her Iduna. Her parents loved her and if there's one major theme in these movies and characters it is the power of love along with self acceptance. Love is what brought Elsa as she was into the world! And that strong emotion and realization resonated, so we see Iduna as a large key.
Whoosh, Im getting tired, and I'm pretty sure I have more to say...but I'll craft that more later.
Some of my leftover thoughts right now are pretty short...I feel Elsa was displayed as ace, but that really depends on the viewer anyway. As much as I would love to see Honeymaren and Elsa, the brief snippets in the movie don't do it for me, but I am sort of relieved to see Elsa having a friend. She deserves a friend that isn't her sister or her sister's fiance or a...snowman. I'm not sure she really tried to bond with anyone in Arendelle, being that she was still sorting her life out after the events of the first movie.
But maybe there will be some more releases of official material, and we'll see. I just hope some of the absolute hate for Kristoff and Anna stops. I'm not overly into it, it's just kind of a boring dynamic to me right now, but not every romantic relationship is super exciting and stuff. They fit well and we see that Kristoff's first words to her after being lost in the woods are "I'm here. What do you need?" He's a good guy, stop hatin' on him.
Oh! That brings me to another thought though - I read a couple of posts where others felt he interrupted Elsa and Anna's moment at the end of the movie. I couldn't disagree more! Elsa didn't display any negative emotion toward it. I think she was happy for her sister, wanting her as happy as she could be in that moment, and the proposal added right in. Anna had felt alone and at her rope's end in the cave, then she got her sister back and after running off on him sort of, Kristoff proposing. Elsa saw her sister elated. And Anna got to have her sister as part of that momentous life event!
Besides, Kristoff is one of those Elsa counts as everyone she's ever loved within those walls. When they met again she embraced him too. I think Elsa was happy to have family again, have it fuller and to know someone she trusts will be there with Anna as she rules. Kristoff's a silly character and it's hard not to write him off when he's alongside such bright stars as Elsa and Anna, but he has a good, solid role. He belongs and so did that part of the moment.
Ugh, and I thought I was tired before...
Guess this is where I wrap this up!
Please, if any of you want to talk about this, even to disagree, don't hesitate to drop an ask or message. I don't want anyone to think I'm actively crapping on their interpretation - this is how it came across to me and after my third viewing I was finally able to get this written. If you didn't like the ending, that's okay, and if you ship Elsa and Anna, Kristoff and Ryder, Elsa and Honeymaren, Olaf and Gale, you do you and follow your shippy heart.
As for me I'mma hit post and get some cake.

Mun Things and Fandom Notes
about the mun. fill this out  &  tag a few people you’d like to get to know better !
tagged by the lovely @vetlanwrites tysm tagging some people I haven’t tagged before: @amalgammuses, @animus-inspire, @kychchc, @rotinthedark, @warofthebeasts & YOU!
name: my name is [ loud music interrupts ] nickname:  you can call me Kat or KF! preferred pronouns: she/her age range:  30+ favorite animal:  cats pets: cat and a dog tattoos/piercings: I had my ears pierced several times and they won’t stay pierced so I gave up on anything -shrug- star sign: virgo! I’m an August bby how long have you been in this fandom?: doing just the ones I currently have muses for, and not the ones I’ve only talked about -
Dragonball(Z) - I’ve been writing in DBZ since... oh geez, the late 90â€Čs? I think the first fic I ever posted was DBZ and it was around that time. I didn’t start rping it until like, early 00â€Čs though.
Final Fantasy - I actually dabbled in 9 a little bit around the time it came out in ‘00 (my friend had it!) but I wouldn’t say I really did much until I really got into 7, and that was around... geez, ‘05? I rped it a little with a friend around then but I didn’t really start writing it much until nearly ‘10. #latetotheparty Yet I do consider it my “home” fandom - I always come back to it.
Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons - early ‘00s! My first HM/SoS game was Friends of Mineral Town on my trusty GBA and I love it so much to this day. SO excited for the remake!
Legend of Zelda - I really, really loved Ocarina of Time from the get-go when I got it on the N64 in ‘98 (I got it again for the GameCube and the 3DS and would totally buy it for the Switch, just sayin.) Majora’s Mask creeped me out a bit and was stressful but I liked it, too. And then of course later titles like Twilight Princess were just... -chef’s kiss- but I didn’t really dig into the fandom until ‘10-’11 when I started rping Link with a friend and briefly tried joining a forum rp group (shoutout to ZRPG!) with an OC
Marvel Cinematic Universe - I want to say around ‘12, when Avengers came out? Like, I’d seen Iron Man but I didn’t really dig into it until then.
PokĂ©mon - late 90â€Čs / early 00â€Čs because I first started my Pkmn journey playing Gold and Crystal. While I didn’t write fanfic or rp it, I definitely had headcanons and a lot of feels.
Sailor Moon - early 90â€Čs! I first watched the anime as it came out, though I’ve since forgotten most of that and only have the manga/crystal in my head to run interpretations off of. It was so pretty tho.
Stardew Valley - a newer fandom for me, I really only started getting “into” it about a year ago, but man... I love it, I really do
Star Wars - despite early access to the OT as a kidlet, I didn’t actually get “into” Star Wars until the Prequels in ‘99 (fite me) when I fell in love with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan and promptly, voraciously, dove into fixit and timetravel fanfic. By the time KOTOR came out in ‘03 I was hooked.
Threads of Fate - I think I got into this one on the ground floor, so to speak. My friend had just gotten it and I borrowed it from her and my brother’s PS1 in ‘00 and that was it, I was in love.
why did you choose this specific character/s?:  under a cut bc I have like... nearly 30 muses now
I’m doing alphabetical order (by fandom / first name) bc it’s just easier to go down my list:
tl;dr I picked them all because I love them. Read on to find out why. Click their names to read their bios!
Dragonball Z
Vegeta - oh man, actually one of the first characters I ever rp’d or wrote in fic, and that’s saying something. I picked him because I love him. He’s an absolute ass, but he grows so much throughout Z. (I have yet to see Super, hoping to one day remedy that but we’ll see!) I guess I picked him up for nostalgia’s sake? I really love the character and think there’s a lot of growth yet to see buried under that pride and ego. If you can unearth it.
Final Fantasy
Angeal Hewley (FF7) - actually my first muse on Tumblr, back in... oh, 2013? The blog has been deleted, but he was the first muse I ever played seriously out of FF7. There’s parts of Angeal that really resonate with me, enough that - when I was a less experienced writer - I got tangled up in him a bit too much, made him a bit too personal, and I realized I had to take a step back from writing him. But I love Angeal, and after some time had passed, having written him in various fics, I’ve felt confident adding him... even if I haven’t done anything with him here yet.
Cait Sith (FF7) - I know a lot of people see Cait Sith as all sorts of negative things, but frankly I adore the little guy. And I guess I took him on partially because I couldn’t take Reeve on and not take Cait on, but partially because I see so much in him that could be interesting to explore and would really, really love to. (Any Reeve’s or AVALANCHE - or Turks! - come at me!)
Chaos (FF7) - I picked Chaos up on a whim, as far as Tumblr goes. I really enjoy rping him/Vincent off Tumblr and writing him in fics, and I suppose I just wanted to present a different side of him than I usually see. I’ve even had a thread that has a great deal of promise so I think it was worth it.
Genesis Rhapsodos (FF7) - my third FF7 blog, I think? It’s still up, though obviously not in use, just because I’d put so much work into it. I really adore Genesis, and love writing him. I love his sass and flare, but I love that he’s deeper than all the fire and flamboyance, if you’re willing to look past that. I’m lucky that I’ve had some lovely partners to explore him with, though I’d still kill for an Angeal to throw him at. XD Or a Sephiroth, for that matter.
Lazard Deusericus (FF7) - Lazard, my second FF7 blog and an unexpected love. I picked him up because I had recently started writing him in earnest with an off-Tumblr rp partner ( @thegeeksqueaks ) and was really enjoying him, and hadn’t seen him on Tumblr yet so thought I might get more partners that way. (It turned out there were a couple but they were inactive.) His first blog was accidentally deleted - over five years worth of character development and relationships - so after briefly working him up again solo I brought him over here. He’s not getting the same level of attention but it’s worth it not to be juggling blogs.
Reeve Tuesti (FF7) - pre-Remake, most of the Reeve rpers had gone inactive (shoutout to the fabulous @engineering-robotics and @animus-inspire for coming back!) and just... I love the character too much not to see him in the RPC. Of course, I love to write him period myself so I’d love more threads there but regardless he’s so much fun.
Tristan Pierce (FF7 OC) - Triiiiiiiiiis. Tristan was actually born as an NPC off of Lazard’s blog, who took a life on his own because he was just... so full of life. He actually had his own blog, too! I’ve barely done anything with him here, but I still keep him just because he gives me feels and he’s just neat. (He does still appear in the background of Lazard’s threads though.)
Harvest Moon / Story of Seasons
Iris (SoS) - I actually picked up Iris as a muse first for a fantastic HM/SoS/SDV/etc rp group I’m in a couple years ago, and liked playing her so much I thought I’d bring her here. Elegant lady novelist? Yes please.
Neil (ANB) - unlike Iris and Trent, I haven’t written Neil anywhere else, but he’s my love from A New Beginning and just... he seems like he’d be fun to write? I’d love to flesh him out.
Doctor/Trent (FoMT/MFoMT; DS/CUTE) - Trent, like Iris, is one I write for the rp group and I legit picked him up because of the opportunity for h/c I am not sorry. But seriously though, he’s grown on me so much and I love my awkward doctor.
Legend of Zelda
Midna (Twilight Princess) - TP is one of my absolute favorite Zelda games, and Midna a favorite character. There’s just so much to her you don’t get to see that I was really hoping to get to dig into, still hope one day to. We’ll see. Worth keeping on roster.
Revali (Breath of the Wild) - my newest addition! I keep saying in complete seriousness “Genesis with more feathers” but seriously, I may have a type? I love him so much and wanted to see more of him, and by god if I have to do it myself so be it. (I have been playing a ton of BOTW lately which probably has a lot to do with it. XD)
Sheik (Ocarina of Time) - I love them so much. OoT didn’t have a ton of character building, but the sheer implications of the character speaks volumes that I want to explore. I’m lucky enough to be getting the chance to, too.
Marvel Cinematic Universe
Tony Stark - did I mention I have a type? I feel he makes a good argument for it. I originally picked Tony up because I just fell head over heels for the character in the first couple Iron Man movies + Avengers. I... am less in love with him in the later movies, not gonna lie, and am so far behind on lore that I’m considering dropping him. But yeah, originally picked him up just because he had so much potential. Thx Disney, great job there.
Pokémon (gameverse)
Lily Hart (HG/SS OC) - another OC of mine, this time for a fandom that... I only really know through the games, as opposed to manga/anime. I picked her up because I really liked the idea of doing events or little ask things with her, and still may try to initiate some more of those. We’ll see?
Sailor Moon (manga/Crystal)
Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury - I actually picked Ami up because of a plot with @magicalxgirlsxrp where we were splitting up the Inners and the Shitennou for some mega threads. XD But yeah, I do like her. Even if she’s a challenge to write sometimes because she’s very much not like me, and very much smarter.
Kunzite - Kunzite I have always loved, always, and I’ve had him on here because I really wanted to explore him more. I love him even more after the teasing in Crystal of what might have been, be still my shippy heart.
Mamoru Chiba/Endymion/Tuxedo Mask - super fond of Mamoru, too; I didn’t care for him so much in the 90â€Čs anime, but in the manga and Crystal I really became more fond. I do a few things differently, I think, but don’t we all? I picked him up for that very reason, in fact.
Minako Aino/Sailor Venus - Minako is really interesting to me because there’s so much more to her than her airheaded, bubbly persona that fits her like a glove... but is just as superficial. I mean, she’s sunny and happy but she’s also the OG Senshi, the leader of the Inners, a powerful, commanding fighter - she’s complex, and I really wanted to explore that + getting to have fun with her bubbliness.
Nephrite - another picked up from @magicalxgirlsxrp‘s enabling. But I do find him really interesting so it works out well. Haven’t done a lot with him, but we have plans. Plans I’m looking forward to.
Stardew Valley
M. Rasmodius - I knew I really wanted to do something with SDV, once I got to playing it, but I wasn’t sure who. I thought about Sebastian and Elliot, but already had interacted with a couple who were just fantastic. So instead, I did a good fallback of mine - because I never, ever get tired of playing mages. Ever. XD
Star Wars
HK-47 (KOTOR) - the attitude. I wanted to write HK entirely because of the scorching levels of sass from this droid.
Liana Raine (SWTOR f!JC) - the Jedi Consular storyline is one of my favorites out of all of SWTOR (tied with the Inquisitor, but I’m revamping her) and I really just wanted to keep playing with it even once I’d done the dedicated storyline.
Revan (KOTOR LS!F) - give me female Revan you cowards. -ahem- I have feels about Revan, okay? I love her so, so much - she even had her own blog, I love her that much. I would absolutely love to do something more with her but I will hold on to her if for no other reason than to make sure at least one black, female Revan exists in the world. (I want all the timetravel and crossover threads, hit me up.)
Tharan Cedrax (SWTOR) - another for attitude, really, and also definitely my type. XD He’s charming, he’s snarky, he’s sassy, he’s brilliant... I very much like Tharan and really felt he, like most of the companions, deserved more screentime. So, I’m here to give it to him.
Threads of Fate (Dewprism)
Duke - he’s so cool. I mean, he’s a dork, but his powers are amazing and he’s just a fun, incredibly upbeat character to play. And well, anything to spread my love of that teeny fandom.
Fancy Mel - Mel hits all the sweet spots for a mage character. She’s got flavor, she’s got amazing powers, and she had room to create a fantastic backstory with amazing crossover potential. Is she a bit OP? Yes. But she has no intention of using it for anything but her amusement/whimsy.
Rod the Bladestar - I love Rod. I love his oddly genteel manners, I love how he’s unwittingly sexist but quickly cleans up his act when put straight, I love how driven and passionate he is. Could do without such a typically-Square-outfit, but you can’t have everything. (In the right artists’ hands, he might even be pretty amazing, actually.)
Did you read all of that? Amazing. Any of them strike your interest? Hmu and maybe we could plot a thread! :eyes:
Also I sincerely apologize to mobile users who had to read all that because Tumblr can’t get it’s act together.

The Melissa mystery: a look at canon facts
Sooo recently there’s been a lot of confusion about where the hell Melissa is, because she seems to have been forgotten by H50 canon, but we’ve never seen or heard anything about Danny and her breaking up. Are we supposed to assume they did that off-screen and it went unmentioned? Are they still together but so low key that it’s basically invisible? Did Melissa run off with Lynn and/or Charlie Fong and that’s why Danny never mentions her because it’s too painful and/or awkward? Do the writers even remember that Danny used to have a longterm girlfriend? Does Danny remember he has a girlfriend?
> Getting to the actual content of this post <
I can’t answer any of those questions, but what I was able to do is go back through the most recent couple of seasons and search the dialogue for any trace of Melissa. Fair warning that there are a lot of opinions peppered in here.
> Why not look at the episodes she appeared in? <
That would be better, of course, except that there are shockingly few of those for a woman that Danny has been dating for five years by now (assuming, for the moment, that they’re currently still together). That’s half a decade, people, shit, and in all that time she only physically appeared in six episodes, the most recent of which was almost two years ago (hence the understandable confusion in fandom about where she went).
Here’s an overview of episodes with Amber/Melissa in them:
4.12 O kela me keia Manawa (her first meeting with Danny; she introduces herself as Amber)
4.19 Ku I Ka Pili Koko (Amber and Danny’s first time and Amber accidentally meets Grace; Steve and Danny are trapped under a collapsed building and say “I love you” to each other for the first time)
5.16 Nanahu (s5 Valentine’s Day episode: Amber’s abusive ex-husband turns up and stabs Danny and she runs him over with her car; from this point on, she goes by Melissa, her name from before she had to go in hiding from her ex)
5.24 Luapoʻi (the episode where Danny learns Charlie is his son; he gets texts from Rachel asking him to come meet her and he tells Melissa it’s work, but when he goes to take a shower his phone keeps buzzing and Melissa discovers that he was lying to her)
6.14 Hoa 'inea (s6 Valentine’s Day episode: Melissa writes Danny a card telling him she loves him, but he doesn’t say (or write) it back even though they’ve been together for two years; they have a fight because she wants to feel like a priority in his life, which is never resolved on screen)
7.16 Ponui I Ke Aloha (s7 Valentine’s Day episode: Melissa, Danny, Lynn and Steve go on a double date organized by the women, but Danny spends most of the weekend chasing some kid around; Danny at one point super casually says “I love you” to Melissa during a game of volleybal, in a way that doesn’t look like the first time, so apparently he did start doing that at some point after 6.14)
Conclusion: Melissa’s appearances span about three seasons/years, but half of the time we get to see her, she’s making an appearance because it’s Valentine’s Day, which bugs me for reasons that aren’t what this post is about. In short, it seems to suggest she’s only useful when some romance is required and she has literally no other relevance or link to anything else in Danny’s life, which is... not healthy, unless they’ve talked about that, which the show never suggests they have. Rather the opposite, what with Melissa wanting Danny to take her seriously.
The other half of the time, Danny seems to be lying to her or avoiding her, even though we never see her do anything that would warrant this kind of behavior (and she comes straight from an abusive relationship, so please, do fucking better, Danny, because I know you have your own history and insecurities, but you’re being an unintentional asshole). But again, not strictly what this post is about.
> So we last saw her in 7.16. What about everything after that? <
That’s what I wanted to know, too! Because I didn’t have time to rewatch almost two full seasons (as of the time of posting this, the most recent episode is 9.14), I instead went for a somewhat less elegant approach: I ctrl+F searched episode scripts from this website for every episode post-7.16 for the keyword “Melissa”. There are two immediately obvious problems with this approach:
The scripts are pretty rough. They’re pretty much dialogue-only (transcripts, really, not scripts), but that’s not a problem if spoken words are the only thing I’m looking for anyway. The bigger danger is that there could be discrepancies between the transcripts and the actual dialogue, but everything I’ve seen (and I’ve used this website a lot in the past) seemed pretty accurate.
I only searched for “Melissa”, so if Danny ever mentioned her as just “my girlfriend” or anything similar, my method didn’t pick up on that.
> Gasp! So what did you find? <
[insert drumroll] đŸ„ Frighteningly little!
Here’s an overview:
8.06 Mohala I Ka Wai Ka Maka O Ka Pua
This is the episode where Danny hires a stress counsellor for Steve. Melissa is mentioned (by Danny) when the counsellor asks how many times a week Steve has sex, and Steve exaggerates the number and Danny corrects him, saying he knows “because Lynn speaks with Melissa and then Melissa shares with me”, which freaks Steve out a tiny bit. The conversation moves on after Steve asks Danny to do him a favor and stop discussing intimate details of Steve’s relationship with his girlfriend.
In other words, Melissa’s name is mentioned here, but in a discussion that’s actually about Steve’s sex life (which makes it very shippy on the McDanno front in the most ridiculous of ways, but that’s a different story). It does, however, tell us that Melissa is still in touch with Lynn, Steve’s girlfriend at the time, which shows that she has at least some outside connections to Danny’s life.
And then... nothing. No, seriously, 8.06 is the only mention of Melissa (by name, at least, but it seems odd to have Danny talking about a girlfriend without naming her, so I’m going to assume it really is the last time) after her last appearance in 7.16.
Other thing to note: Melissa is not anywhere in Danny’s visions of the future in 8.11. Kono and Chin are included by way of pictures on a wall, because they’re characters whose actors left the show, but Melissa isn’t in those pictures.
> Conclusions <
Here are my main take aways:
Danny and Melissa are still together in 8.06, because he definitely talks about her like they are.
At the time of writing this (early February 2019), 9.14 is the most recent episode to air, which means that Melissa hasn’t been mentioned in the past rougly one and a third season.
Each season of H50 covers about a year, because the show seems to stick relatively well to our irl passage of time. This means that between 4.12 (Melissa’s introduction) and 8.06 (last mention of Melissa’s existence) very nearly four years would have passed. Danny and Melissa therefore have a relationship of four years before she vanishes, then we get a year of nothing, and now, in season 9, Danny is possibly flirting with Rachel and there’s no mention whatsoever of whether he’s single or not.
Which, to contrast this, does happen in 7.20, in which the news of Rachel and Stan’s divorce breaks and there is a character explicitly suggesting that Danny would want to get back together with Rachel. In that episode, Danny says he doesn’t want that and he has a girlfriend who he “like[s] very much”.
The last time Melissa is mentioned is when Danny tries to justify telling Steve and a virtual stranger that he knows intimate details about Steve’s sex life. Chew on that one for a bit.
In the last three episodes where Melissa physically appeared, things never went very smoothly for her relationship with Danny. One time he lied to her, one time they had a big fight, and the last time she had organized a romantic weekend and he spent most of it distracted by, with all due respect to Danny, very petty nonsense. Melissa says she’s okay with it all, but it wouldn’t have been super weird if at some point after 7.16, the show had somehow worked in a mention of a break-up (if they couldn’t bring Melissa’s actress back to show us that scene, which would have been ideal - they did that very nicely for Gabby, Danny’s only real canon girlfriend before Melissa).
Steve and Lynn, on the other hand, do get a formal mention of a break-up (in 9.01). They were together for two and a half to three years before splitting (their first date was in 6.07). This all makes the whole silence on the Danny and Melissa front even stranger.
Most important point, perhaps: there is no mention of Danny breaking up with Melissa. There is no mention of Melissa leaving. There is no mention of Melissa still being around, either, but that’s the state the show left things in last time we heard of her.
> A last word / Conclusions part 2 <
Clearly, Melissa got abducted by aliens.
Okay, so maybe not. She did disappear, however, and to the best of my knowledge she did so without a trace, even after I put some serious effort into finding her. She is last seen in 7.16, last mentioned in 8.06, and we don’t know if Danny and she broke up at some point after that or not.
Of course there’s a near-endless number of possible headcanons to fix this glaring plothole (she’s still around but very much in the background; there was a quiet break-up and Danny doesn’t like to talk about it ever; their relationship is and always has been a cover story for something and Danny has just given up the pretense at this point; Melissa has been working as a secret super scientist and has been travelling back and forth to Mars to find a way to achieve world peace and she’s so close that she hasn’t had time to come home in two years but Danny totally understands and supports her career; [make up literally whatever you like]), but really, at the end of the day, the people responsible for canon very seriously dropped the ball here by not even alluding at a breakup, which would have been so easy.
So was this laziness on the part of the writers? Maybe. Probably, even, because somewhere something went wrong (assuming this isn’t part of some secret bigger plan which they’ve waited literally years to reveal) and it’s kind of their job to make sure it doesn’t. I guess they might have meant for Melissa to come back at some point, but when things turned out differently (for whatever reason, such as changes in the plot or scheduling issues with the actress), they feared that it had been too long and viewers would have forgotten her, so they ignored the issue completely, which is fine, except that it’s also nuts. This show is known to make characters vanish sometimes, but I don’t think it’s been this bad for anyone with a huge personal link (and established four-year romantic relationship!) to any of our main characters.
But yeah, whatever the underlying reason, in-universe or out, this seems to be the state of things. I honestly don’t even know if I’m mad. Mostly I’m just completely baffled, I think. Despite her long involvement with Danny, Melissa is a very minor character and I never meant to spend this much time thinking about her or writing up long Tumblr posts, but dammit - she deserved better, and the way she’s been treated feels emblematic of Things H50 Does Wrong, specifically in regard to minor characters, women, and romantic relationships. That’s what gets me the most, maybe. She’s all of those problems, compounded into one, cranked up to eleven and with a bow on top.
> A shameless plug <
Should anyone need a healthy dose of catharsis after this, here’s a fic I wrote a while back where Melissa dumps Danny because he’s a better boyfriend to Steve than to her, which feels more relevant than ever after writing this: Please don’t tell me (how this story ends). It has happy ends for everyone, because that’s my jam. ✹
> The tl;dr version <
Melissa? Melissa who? (Alternately: What the fuck, dear H50 writers?)

So, quite a long time ago, I had a WIP. It was called Down Here Among the Wreckage, an SG-1 Sam/Jack darkfic angst-overload story that I always had every intention of finishing, but am very sure now I never will. So I am liberating the partial, but nearly finished next part of the story as I promised I would to some people over on twitter. Very un-beta’d, very unfinished, and probably not the shippy resolution you were hoping for, but maybe some small smidges. There was to be a fifth part, but that is pretty much just a couple of sentences and one final ending scene. So maybe I’ll come back and post that too. For you, my wormhos and Jomantha fans. ;) As always, my inbox is open if people have specific questions about this fic or any of my fics. Yes, even the SG-1 ones.
Down Here Among the Wreckage – Part 4 – Aftermath
Kiras is going to die.
He sees the truth of it in every face he passes on his journey three levels up and two sectors over. People who would normally never give way to him seem to melt out of his path in deference, and to anyone ignorant of the situation, this might seem like a mark of Kiras’ status, that he is a fierce fighter no one would dare to waylay for even a moment. That couldn’t be further from the truth, Kiras thinks with the sort of wryness only a dead man walking can muster. To block his way would be to risk associating oneself with the taint of the doomed, or worse, open up the possibility of the death mark being passed off to them. Not that Kiras has the cards to play, the clout to work with to make that even a possibility. There is a reason, after all, that this task has fallen to him. But debts and bloodpacts have a way of appearing from the place least expected, and the others respect that enough to step out his way, to give him that one honor.
There isn’t a point in wishing things different, so Kiras just walks with whatever dignity he has and tries to pretend the message in his hand is anything other than what it is—a death sentence.
As he nears the upper chambers, the hallways rapidly depopulate until there are only two guards at the entrance doors. They don’t look at Kiras or the message in his hand, but merely open the door, their eyes carefully riveted to the ceiling.
Kiras summons whatever small cache of courage he has and enters the room.
Netan is not alone, twelve of his most powerful lieutenants sitting with an arrogant sort of ease around a heavily laden table as Kiras enters. They are smug in their conviction that Kiras will pay for their sins. Which he surely will.
Kiras doesn’t bother hating them. What was the point?
“Read it,” Netan commands.
It takes Kiras a few tries to start, to get the words out, the numbers of casualties, ships lost, the mere pittance that returned from the doomed run against Anubis.
Netan’s face darkens as Kiras reads, the lines of his face impossibly hard, but he does not bellow or rage. Like maybe he already knew the numbers. Perhaps the point is not the numbers, but what Netan will do to Kiras because of them. An example.
There are worse things to be.
“An explanation?” Netan asks.
The lieutenants rumble self-importantly about the Tau’ri and the Valedin, playing lip service to Netan’s prejudices until he lifts his hand for them to stop.
Netan holds out his cup to Kiras. “Would you hold this for me?” he asks, voice almost
gentle.
Kiras feels a shudder of revulsion travel down his spine, even as he reaches for the cup. “Yes, sir.”
There will probably be a little money. No large sum, but some form of payment to his family back on Yartan for his loss. It is the way of children traded to the Lucian. (He has long since learned not to use the word ‘stolen’, even in the privacy of his mind. Mind-words too easily become tongue-words, and death comes readily enough without thoughtless speech.)
With his hands now free, Netan reaches for his weapon.
Kiras squeezes his eyes shut.
There is a rapid succession of blasts, and Kiras only has enough thought to be thankful that death doesn’t hurt as much as he imagined it would. It’s only when he cracks one eye open in the succeeding silence that he realizes there were twelve shots.
Netan stands nearby, rubbing casually at his hands with a cloth, dabbing away the oil his blaster left on his skin, the burn of ozone still heavy in the air. After nearly a minute of careful, methodical grooming, he turns to Kiras and holds out a hand.
It takes Kiras a moment to realize what he wants, nearly stumbling with haste to hand back the cup.
“You may go,” Netan says.
Kiras nods, bowing almost to the waist like they did to the ancient kings centuries past, not letting his eyes stray towards the table and its damning bloody silence. “Yes, sir.”
Kiras is not the quickest or the smartest, but it occurs to him as he unashamedly flees the room of death that the only reason Netan let him live was for the story to be spread, growing larger and larger with each retelling.
Kiras dutifully complies, stopping to whisper the horrors into every ear he passes, but does not bother to exaggerate.
The original story is horrifying enough as it is.

Cam stares down at the dubiously smudged glass slammed down on the bar in front of him. The scent emanating from the slosh of liquid that follows makes his eyes water, but at least comforts him that whatever might have been living in that glass before certainly wouldn’t be anymore.
He can only hope the man who served him makes a better informant than he does a barkeep.
"Bottom's up," the scruffy guy says.
Cam glances down at the bar, noticing a distinct lack of a second glass. "None for you?"
The barkeep laughs. "Are you kidding? That crap'll rot you from the inside."
Cam frowns, but doesn't answer as another patron sidles up to the bar and is cheerfully poured a generous serving of the rotgut in question.
Can this really be the guy Reynolds sent him to collect intelligence from? He has the air of a burned out hippy to be completely honest. The only thing that makes Cam think this guy could have anything legitimate to offer are his eyes. They are dark and beady and make Cam think of cockroaches and that old saying about the end of the world. This guy seems like he would land on his feet every damn time.
Deep in his thoughts, Cam accidentally takes a sip of the drink in front of him. He sputters, nearly spitting it out before he remembers he's not supposed to be drawing attention to himself, especially here of all places. With great effort, he swallows it down, his eyes stinging. Hell, he supposes he should just be thankful he hasn't gone instantly blind.
Down at the other end of the bar, cockroach man throws back his head and laughs.
It's nearly dawn by the time the crowd empties out, making it safe for them to talk.
The bartender doesn’t even bother waiting for Cam to ask, just a slides a slim data device towards him. "Rumor has it that Netan finally lost his shit."
Cam raises an eyebrow, trying not to imagine just what the normally self-possessed-to-the-point-of-ice Netan would look like in a temper. The stuff of nightmares really.
The barkeep nods, leaning in as if to share salacious details. “Personally killed all twelve of his lieutenants if the stories can be believed. With a sword.”
Jesus. “Doesn’t like having his ships blown up much, does he,” Cam surmises. Like they hadn’t all equally strolled into a trap. Netan had lost ships, yes, but they were the ones to lose lives.
A lot of lives.
The informant shrugs. “Personally, I would have at least taken the time to interrogate them first,” he says, sounding as if torture is just the logical first step.
“Yeah?” Cam says.
The guy’s eyes narrow. “You understand that you were betrayed, right? How else could Anubis possibly have known?”
How indeed. But that is a worry that is far above Cam’s pay scale. If he were actually still getting paid. He’s got other things to worry about.
“Any final word on just how many ships made it back to the Lucian Alliance?” Cam tries to sound as casual as he can, like it doesn’t really matter. If Netan is losing his shit as much as this guy says, they’d be fools not to assume he will turn on them next. Knowing exactly how many ships he managed to snatch back from the fight with his hidden recall technology is vital.
“Enough that you should worry.”
“Yeah?” Cam asks.
The guy shoves the data device towards him again. “It’s all there.”
Cam palms the device, knowing it’s time to get up and walk away. He picks up the glass again. “Hypothetically, what would happen to someone taken prisoner by the Lucian?”
A bushy eyebrow lifts above a flinty eye. “You mean other than being tortured and killed for information?”
Cam fights back a wince. “Yes. Other than that.”
He shrugs. “Well, you know where most of the wealth driving the Alliance comes from.”
“Naquadah,” Cam says.
He nods. “Someone has to work the mines.”
Cam spins the glass between his palms. “You happen to know any of the locations of those mine?”
He laughs. “Now that is information worth more than both of our lives.”
Cam gets up to leave, the drive disappearing into his pocket.
“Hey.”
Cam turns back. The bartender seems to be struggling with something. “I hear Jack O’Neill is alive. Is that true?”
“You know O’Neill?”
“A couple of lifetimes ago,” he says with a wry grin that almost looks nostalgic.  “So
it’s true?”
“It is,” Cam says. “Or it was.” Is being frozen in ice with a brain overloaded by Ancient knowledge more dead or more alive? Cam doesn’t know. “It’s complicated.”
The guy nods. “Things always were with him.”
Somehow, Cam thinks that’s the understatement of the century.
*     *     *
Jason Reynolds paces his office, the small victory they managed to wrest already fading in the face of the odds shifting against their favor yet again.
The Lucian Alliance aren’t quite the allies dreams are made of. They still need to neutralize Anubis once and for all, if the written ramblings of Jack O’Neill are to be believed, and now they get to look back over their shoulders, always wondering when the Lucian Alliance will make their move.
Earth is vulnerable. Prime for the picking. They need whatever intel they can get their hands on. A job he would dearly love to give to Jack O’Neill, if he weren’t locked away in a block of ice. Instead he sent Cam, whose restless energy since the battle has been only growing. Something about the battle rattled Cam in a way the loss of Earth had not. Or maybe, Reynolds thinks more likely, something was finally the straw that broke the camel’s back.
“Netan believes we were betrayed,” Mitchell announces upon his return, sliding a slim data device across the table towards him.
Jason shakes his head. “There are a million ways Anubis could have discovered our plans.” Not to mention that he’s beginning to suspect that Anubis was moving the pieces towards that showdown for a lot longer than any of them realize. Netan can take his paranoia out on whomever he wishes. The past is past. Jason is more concerned with their rather shaky future.
“We need to focus on what Netan is planning next.”
Mitchell’s jaw clenches. “I think you were right. I think we have to assume that Netan knows.”
Jason wishes he could say he was surprised. “You’ll take care of it?”
Mitchell nods. “I can be on Earth in two days.” Jackson isn’t going to like it, but Jason has bigger concerns than the scientist’s pangs of conscience. He’s trying to save an entire race.
“There’s one more thing, sir,” Mitchell says, lingering in front of the desk.
Jason sighs internally, knowing what is coming and really not looking forward to it. He’s indulged Mitchell so far, but it’s time for that to end.
“If there were survivors, your contact seemed to think—”
“If there were survivors, Colonel,” Jason interrupts, voice hard. “That’s a giant if. And we have more pressing certainties ready to bite us in the ass.” None of them can afford to have Mitchell continue to be so distracted, to have his focus split. It’s going to get people killed. “You need to let this go.”
Mitchell stiffens, mouth open and face outraged, ready to push on forever if Jason gives him so much as an inch. So he doesn’t.
“Is this going to be a problem?” Jason barks.
Mitchell looks like he might fight for a moment, his face eventually smoothing to a sort of emotionless mask that may have disturbed Jason under any other circumstances. “No, sir,” he says, voice clipped.
Jason nods. “Then get gone.”
Mitchell turns on his heel and stalks out.

Daniel shivers, burrowing his face deeper into the furry lapel of his coat. Despite the obscene amount of gas generators they have down here, it is still an ice cave. He warily glances up at the ceiling, his mind calculating the sheer weight of ice and rock above their heads. He’s far too aware of what can happen when the slightest foundation shifts.
Shoving his hands deeper in his pockets, he shifts from foot to foot as the rings in front of him whine into life. Cam materializes out of the light, cursing roundly as he does.
“Goddamn, it’s colder than a—“
“Welcome to Antarctica,” Daniel interrupts what would no doubt be a colorful colloquialism. “You were expecting bikinis and tiny little umbrella drinks?”
“No,” Cam says, “but I also didn’t think I’d have to worry about my balls turning to ice.”
Daniel rolls his eyes. “It’s a bit warmer back in the lab,” he says, canting his head.
“Wait,” Cam says, and Daniel feels his stomach clench, having some idea of the sort of thing that would bring Cam all this way.
Cam glances around, canting his head off to the side away from listening ears. “The Lucian are coming.”
Daniel grimaces. He wishes he could say that was a surprise, Netan turning on them. Vala always warned them that this was a terrible idea. But he also knows that Cam would never come all this way just to tell him that. “And?”
“We need Sam.”
Daniels sighs. “Reynolds sent you to get her?” He would wonder why Reynolds sent Cam to collect her, when her own father is already on the planet, except Jacob doesn’t want her going back to Omega. He won’t stop her, but he isn’t going to talk her into it either.
Cam shakes his head. “I need you to take her. I have a few other things to take care of.”
Daniel’s eyes narrow. “Other things?”
Cam’s face isn’t giving anything away, and that is disturbing enough in and of itself. “Don’t worry about it.”
Yeah. Like that is going to happen.
Cam slaps his hands against his thighs, probably trying to knock feeling back into them. “You’ll get her there?”
Daniel frowns, thinking of Sam back in the lab behind him, the way she’s been since they discovered her down here with nothing but a frozen body for company.
“Idun, Daniel,” she snaps, pacing around the small space, her breath bursting out in white puffs. “Where did he go?”
Daniel’s long since given up trying to get her to sit still long enough to get medical to look her over. He steps aside as another tech swarms through the space, taking readings. “Sam, he died. His body failed and he didn’t have the resources to make a new one.”
She looks like he may have well taken a sledgehammer to her, her face paling. “And the other Asgard?”
He shakes his head, refusing to look at the frozen visage of Jack O’Neill behind him. “There are no more Asgard, Sam.”
No more miracles.
Sam turns abruptly away from him, but not before he sees the stark bleakness of her expression.
He finds her later, her hand pressed over the ice covering Jack’s face, her voice low as she speaks. “Is this why? Because you knew I’d never be able to find a way?”
Jack has no answers to share.
“Jackson,” Cam says, his hard voice snapping Daniel back to the present. “Just get her there.”
He turns and walks back to the rings.
Daniel walks back into the main lab, the hastily installed set of heavy duty doors sliding back in place behind him. He lets out a sigh at the relative warmth of the space. Shrugging out of his thick parka, he drapes it over the back of his chair, glancing at the crumpled collection of papers strewn across his desk.
The papers are covered with writing, some much more legible than others, all written in a evolving dialect of Ancient that has kept Daniel struggling for weeks to decipher. Jack’s last words, scribbled on the back of anything he could get his hands on.
The longest piece of writing is a letter. About Anubis. To be honest either Daniel’s Ancient is rusty or Jack was more than a little gone when he wrote it. It’s full of strange phrases like ‘death is not the end’, ‘not human’, and some word Daniel can’t define at all that might have something to do with non-corporeal. Ascension?
He’ll build himself a new body. He always does. Unless you stop him.
Daniel can’t make sense of it.
The only thing that convinces him that they aren’t just the rantings of a delusional man is the careful note in the margin. “Tell Carter, tell her I, just thank her for me. Thank her for saving me in every way that a person can be saved. Take care of her.”
Daniel glances up at Sam on the other side of the lab, currently lying on her back with her head stuck in an Ancient console. He’s doing his best to do what Jack asked him, but Sam has always been like a force of nature.
They limit her to ten-hour shifts, forcing her back up to the orbiting Prometheus for rest and warmth. That still hasn’t stopped her from hacking her way back down here from time to time. Daniel still hasn’t decided what is worse, the listless hopelessness she was mired in at first, or this manic, focusless rush to solve a solution to an unsolvable problem that has obsessed her since. Endless lifelessness or a bright thing threatening to burn out far too fast?
Daniel takes a deep breath and crosses the space. “Sam.”
She’s muttering to herself, what sounds like the basic conjugation of simple Ancient verbs. She’s insisted on Daniel teaching her to read and speak the Ancient language, no matter how slow it is going or how much Sam clearly doesn’t have an aptitude for it.
“Sam,” he tries again. “I need to—”
She pops out, wagging a finger at him. “Ancient.”
Daniel sighs. She only wants him to speak to her in Ancient, even if it makes all of their conversations take ten times as long. They don’t have time for games. “They need you back at Omega.”
Sam seems to consider that for a moment before sticking her head back in the console. “Too bad.”
“Sam,” Daniel says, dragging a hand over his face.
“No, Daniel,” she says. “Do you honestly think anything would make me leave--?” She abruptly swallows the end of the sentence, just enough for Daniel to know there is a lot she isn’t saying.
“Dammit, Sam,” Daniel says. “Don’t you get it? If Netan obliterates us, then none of it meant anything. Not you coming back, not Jack sticking his head in that thing again. It’s all meaningless if we let this happen.”
Maybe it’s a low blow, but she needs to understand what is at stake.
She slides out of the computer, giving him a hard look. Pushing to her feet, she walks away from him.
He paces after her. “You don’t think they’ll take this place from us as well? That he won’t want to get his hands on the weapon that destroyed Anubis?”
She stops in front of her desk, leaning her palms against the surface. He knows she’s processing something, so lets her take the time, trying not to feel a beat of hope that he is finally reaching her.
Eventually she paws through one of the drawers, pulling out a small slip of paper. She holds it out to him. “Can you tell me what this means?”
Daniel sighs. He thought he could get her to understand just how high the stakes are, but she’s too damned wired into this. “Sam,” he says.
She thrusts the paper towards him again.
He takes it. “Unam sumis,” he reads out loud. At this point, he’s used to Sam asking him questions about translating Ancient, but there’s something odd about the phrase. Like maybe it’s a dialect?
Sam’s jaw tightens. “What does that mean?”
Daniel shakes his head. “I’m not sure. I’d really need to see it in context.”
Sam shakes her head, flapping her hand as if telling him to get on with it.
“Fine,” Daniel says, straightening his glasses. “I think it literally translates as ‘we are united’ or ‘we are one’, but it probably really means something more like, ‘We’re in this together’.”
Sam turns and takes a few steps away from him, the only sign that any of that meant anything to her the slight clenching of her fists by her sides.
“Sam?”
She turns back to him with a nod, looking more determined and focused than he’s ever seen her, not since
before. “If I help
when it’s done I get my own lab and complete access to Idun’s research for as long as I want it. No matter what else comes up.”
She’s bargaining with him. That should hurt except he never thought to see her like this again, eyes sharp and bright, her teeth dug deep into a project that is impossible by any standard of measurement.
“I’ll arrange it with Reynolds.”
“Your word,” she presses.
“I promise.”
Her shoulders lower and he supposes that should make him feel better, that his word still means something to her.
“Okay,” she says. “Then I know what to do.”
*     *     *
Jacob sighs, dragging a hand over his face. There was a riot in Alpha section today. One Jaffa and one human died, four more seriously wounded. All over an incident involving farm equipment if the reports can at all be believed.
He and Cassie have been trying to run things on Earth the last month. There are surveys to be done, populations to count, resources to be pooled. It will take lifetimes, but Cassie had only lifted her chin and said, “Then I guess we’d better start.”
A month in, it still feels an awful lot like nowhere.
Teal’c looks displeased, arms crossed over his chest. “I do not understand why this is happening.” The Earth survivors have been less than welcoming to the Jaffa, no matter how much they are trying to help, to throw in and create a future together.
Jacob sighs. “They’re afraid, Teal’c. Afraid and angry and looking for anything to blame.”
Teal’c nods. “Perhaps it would be better if we returned to Haktyl.”
“No.”
They turn to look at Cassie.
She looks up at them. “This is what their universe looks like now. Let the Jaffa teach the humans to defend themselves. Let the Tok’ra teach them to salvage their crops. Let every human know one Jaffa or one Tok’ra personally. Let them learn to be grateful for the help. It’s the kindest thing we can do for them.” She walks away, leaning down over the maps. “It’s time to go forward or just
let it all die.”
Jacob looks to Teal’c. He merely inclines his head. “I shall speak to the Jaffa.” He leaves the house.
Jacob comes to stand next to Cassie.
Cassie laughs under her breath, shaking her head.
“What?” Jacob asks.
“Nothing,” she says, waving a hand. “Just thinking about Earth’s future being decided by three aliens.”
Jacob gives her a wry smile. “We’ll let the history books have the last say on that one.”
If there’s anyone left to write it.
After a brisk knock, the two of them look up to see Cam enter.
“Hey, kid,” he says, ruffling Cassie’s hair.
She scowls, shoving him off. “You’re like, what? Two years older than me?”
“More like fifteen,” he says, “but nice try.”
“What’s up?” Jacob asks, surprised to see him back on Earth so soon.
“Vala,” he says.
Jacob’s jaw clenches. It was really only a matter of time. “Yeah. Okay.”
“Have someone watch her ship and the Stargate.”
Cassie sighs. “It’s a mistake.”
Maybe it all is.
*     *     *
Vala sees him coming, looking up from a few Haktyl women she is trading with.
Cam watches her take in the situation in an instant, her eyes tracking what he assumes are her escape routes, now so carefully cut off thanks to Jacob and a few Jaffa.
“I have to say, I expected you sooner,” she says, eyes defiant under a theatrical pout.
Cam takes her arm. “I’m sure you did.”
He locks her in the back of his ship, not speaking to her again until they are under way.
He tries to resist, but eventually he gets up, walking back into the hold.
“Yes?” she asks.
“The Lucian naquadriah planets,” he says.
Her posture shifts, Vala pulling herself up further. “Yes?” she asks, nearly a purr.
“Do you know any of their locations? The ones any prisoners of war are most likely to be sent to?”
“Are you offering to let me go in exchange for the location? My, my. How you’ve changed.”
Cam gets up to leave.
“I much prefer you this way!”
Cam slams his fist on the controls, the door sliding shut behind him.
*     *     *
Rodney looks up as the door to his lab opens. Sam strides in, Daniel right on her heels looking a little unsettled.
“Sam?” Rodney says, stepping towards her.
She ignores him, walking straight up to her quilt still hanging on the wall. She reaches out, hand tracing faintly over the stitches before she turns for the boards. She picks up a pen.
“Sam?” Rodney tries again, but she ignores him, Daniel reaching out to stop him from pulling her aware from the board.
“Just let her try,” Daniel says.
For a while it looks like she’s just tugging threads, the whole thing threatening to pull apart. But then it happens.
“Oh my God,” Rodney breathes.
Daniel glances at him. “Genius or gibberish?” he asks.
Rodney rubs at the back of his head. “Genius,” he says, head nodding like it’s on a spring. “Definitely genius.”
Sam builds them a sliver of hope out of nowhere.
“It’ll still take a miracle,” Rodney feels the need to point out.
Daniel smiles. “That’s Sam’s specialty.”
*     *     *
Now that Sam is on Omega and working, everything has cleared enough in his head that Daniel can finally make sense of Cam and his additional task on Earth.
“Son of a bitch,” he says.
He barges into Reynolds’ office.
“Where is she?”
“I’m sorry, Daniel,” Reynolds says. “This is the way it has to be.”
If he’d accepted that, Earth never would have been freed.
Vala lies in the cell, one hand pressed to her ear as if listening intently to the crystal walls.
“Netan’s turned on us,” Daniel announces.
He tries to see any reaction, but he just can’t read her. Instead she shifts, swinging her feet to the ground.
“I told Jack this was a terrible, terrible idea.” Her hand lifts to the wall, nails dragging down across the crystal.
She doesn’t press for any information, and if she was really playing them, wouldn’t she?
She leans back against the wall, arms folded up behind her head. “Well. If Netan becomes your new overlord, at least your bosses won’t have to decide what to do with me.”
“You’re right,” Daniel says. “They won’t have to make that decision.”
Stepping to the side of the cell, Daniel swipes his card, punching in his code.
Vala pushes to her feet at the sound of the cell unlocking. She looks like she’s waiting for him to assassinate her.
He pulls the door open and steps out of her way.
“What are you doing?”
“I thought that might be obvious. I’m letting you go.”
“How do you know you can trust me?”
He notices that even as she’s clearly wary of his motives, she still steadily heads for the open door. “I don’t,” he says. “But I gave you my word.”
She’s staring back at him as if he’s the most mystifying creature she’s ever met.
Daniel glances at his watch. “You’ve got a fifteen minute window. It was the best I could do.”
That seems to decide her. “It’s all I need.”
“Vala?” he asks as she glances up and down the hall.
She turns back.
“Even if we can protect ourselves, deflect Netan this time
that won’t stop him, will it?” Daniel says.
“No,” Vala says. “It won’t.”
She slips out the door.
*     *     *
Netan turns as the guards escort his visitor inside his chamber. “Vala. Welcome back.”
He looks for any sign that she resents being here, once again so carefully wrapped up in the world she spent a great deal of energy escaping once upon a time. She would have known the cost though, that day she walked back into his world with two Tau’ri in tow.
Her fingers trail along the edge of the desk. “They tried to lock me away.”
Netan smiles. It was inevitable that the Tau’ri would finally see Vala for what she really is. “And yet, here you are.”
Her lips curve. “Locks can be delicate things.”
Just like people.
“The Tau’ri?”
Her disdain for them is clear in the careless flick of her fingers. “Obsessed with rebuilding Earth.”
He’s long since stopped wondering where her information comes from. It always seems to bleed into her skin, breathing it in like most beings do with oxygen.
“The Ancient weapon they used to defeat Anubis?”
She picks at her nails as if bored. “Depleted.”
“And the rest? Do they know?”
She smiles, a sinuous gesture that sends a thrill of sensation up his spine. She’s truly magnificent. And once again all his.
She settles herself in his lap, looping her arms around his neck. “The poor darlings have no idea what’s coming.”
*     *     *
Netan’s fleet approaches Omega, their secret little base no longer secret.
“There’s a shield, sir.”
Netan glances at Vala.
She is still lounging sideways on her chair, hands languid and bored. “A pathetic last gasp.”
“She’s right, sir. The energy read out is very weak.”
“Full volley,” Netan orders. It is time the Tau’ri learn their place in the grand order of things. This new galaxy they have birthed together. The secrets of the Asgard will be his.
“Are they returning fire?”
“No. Nor have they launched any ships.”
They are no doubt still protecting fragile little Earth. Strange. But Netan did not come so far by being timid. “Increase power to forward weapons.”
There’s a pulse of light, the moon seeming to shrug, the shield flying outward. At first he thinks this is their feeble protection at last fizzling out, but then the three closest ships crumble in a shatter of light, the shock wave rolling through his own ship, consoles sparking and going dark.
He turns, but Vala is gone. He feels the knife slide into his back the same moment he catches the trace of her scent—spice and mystery, seduction and betrayal.
He should have killed her the first time he ever laid eyes on her.
Her lips are cool against his skin, one last poisoned kiss. “It’s a great, wild, beautiful galaxy out there, Netan,” she whispers like a caress against his cheek. “There’s no more room for tyrants.”
She twists the knife.
*     *     *
Cam and Daniel board the disabled ship. There is no one there but bodies, the knife still sticking out of Netan’s back.
Cam picks up a small piece of paper left stuck to the main view screen. There is a series of numbers.
Coordinates, he realizes.
Good luck, it says. I hope you find what you’re looking for.
The Lucian prison camp is in disarray, Netan’s death reverberating through the galaxy, and it only takes a small force to overrun the last remaining feeble overlords.
They free the slaves, help them set up a mining operation owned and operated by the slaves, not the Tau’ri.
After a month, Cam finally has to face the truth.
Kate is not here.
“She’d kick my ass if she were here.”
“Who?”
“Kate,” he says. “She’d kick my ass and she’d be right.”
She’s dead. She died doing what she believed in, what they all believed in. And he’s not going to dishonor that by getting himself killed for a ghost.
It’s time to start to rebuild.
*     *     *
Daniel looks up as the door to the lab opens. He has no idea how she made it in here, how Omega seems to be as porous to her, but he’s long since stopped bothering trying to figure it out. It’s just part of who she is.
“Netan’s dead,” Daniel says like this isn’t something she’s already certainly aware of.
“Is he?” Vala asks, eyes on her fingernails like they are the most fascinating things in the universe. “Did he finally turn his back on the wrong lieutenant?”
Netan was notorious for not allowing any lieutenant with the strength to challenge him to survive. He never would have been so foolish.
“Not likely,” Daniel says. “After all, no one has stepped in to fill the hole. No one strong enough to hold it all together. The Alliance is in chaos.”
She isn’t giving anything away. “I suppose people will have to start making decisions for themselves then. Unless the Tau’ri plan on
” Her eyes lift to his face.
“No,” Daniel says. “We learned this lesson long ago.”
“And yet
your good intentions will always lead you into another catastrophe. It’s your race’s curse.”
Some days he thinks he would do anything to get a straight answer out of her. But the rest of the time he’s smart enough to get that he’s better off not knowing.
“You should know that we aren’t looking for you. That we won’t.”
She smiles, and Daniel realizes it doesn’t actually matter to her, one way or the other. They can come after her or not. It doesn’t mean they would ever catch her. He tries to imagine her as ever defenseless, maybe as a small child, but he thinks even then she must have taken care of herself.
She steps forward up to the glass, looking down to where Sam is working below, the archive of Asgard knowledge she bargained for finally completely open to her.
“It all makes a lot more sense now,” Vala says.
“What does?”
She slides him a look, her head canting towards Sam. “Jack.”
Daniel’s brow furrows. “What do you mean?”
She considers him for a moment, as if trying to decide if he’s being deliberately obtuse or not. “As long as I’ve known Jack, he’s been searching for something,” she says. “A fix it, a cure, a magic remedy.”
That doesn’t sound like Jack, but then again, the way he used to be is hazier and hazier in Daniel’s mind. His skepticism must show because she tilts her head to one side and gives him a half-smile that makes her look bizarrely vulnerable. That’s not a word he ever thought to associate with her.
“When you’re desperate enough, you’ll take hope anywhere you can.” Her eyes harden. “It’s the reason conmen exist in the first place.”
He knows for a fact that Vala is every type of chameleon, that she isn’t above using every weapon in her arsenal to get what she needs. But he also understands in that moment that the one thing she never does is play people for their hope.
It makes sense now, why she didn’t betray them, not when it mattered most. No one breathes pure, unfounded, struggling hope quite like a Tau’ri. What hadn’t they been prepared to do, just on the merest whisper of hope?
What hadn’t Jack been prepared to do?
“The tattoo,” Daniel says, something clicking into place.
Vala nods, looking back over at Sam, leaning on the railing.
“It looked Maori,” he says, trying to think back and remember the details.
Vala shrugs. “If you say so.”
Something is whispering at the back of his mind that he’s on the right track. “The Maori believe that the human body is sacred, having come from the place of the gods,” Daniel explains. “So sacred, in fact, that a pure body is dangerous to other people, can cause physical and spiritual harm.”
Vala gives no sign that she’s listening.
“The tattoos are about rendering the body less pure, diluting the sacredness, making it benign.”
Vala turns then, looking up at him. “A way of rendering oneself impotent,” she says, and Daniel gets the feeling she knows way more about this than she’s letting on.
“To keep himself from harming anyone around him,” he surmises. The placement on the back of his neck is doubtlessly anything but accidental.
Vala nods, that fragile half-smile on her face again. She looks back over at Sam, watching her for a while. “Has he always loved her?”
It actually takes a moment for Daniel to work out the pronouns, to figure out what Vala is asking him, but then it’s like a ton of bricks dropping on him. “God,” he breathes. He’s never let himself notice it before, but looking back, it’s so damn clear. “I think he has.”
Vala nods. “She won’t give up, will she?”
“No,” he says, and the faith is so damn easy to find for once. Or maybe he never really let himself give up on her. “She’ll figure it out. She always does.”
“You know, Daniel,” Vala says, fingers trailing down his arm. “You’re not half bad.”
Daniel raises an eyebrow at the sincerity in her voice, but her expression shifts so fast he thinks he must have imagined it, her eyes sparkling with that wicked gleam once more. “For a worn-out, cranky Tau’ri that is,” she amends.
He crosses his arms over his chest, giving her a wry glance. “That means a lot coming from a heartless thief.”
Her smile stretches even wider. “It’s almost enough to make me feel bad about the twenty credits I lifted off you the first time we met,” she says, flicking her hair over her shoulder and turning to leave the room. She pauses by the door, throwing a look back at him. “Almost.”
And then she’s gone.
Somehow, Daniel knows she’ll be back.

Buguese x Aqune Headcanons
I’ve been keeping a list of these for a while. I’ll totally ignore some of these based on the kind of fic I want to write, but these are some general ones. I probably have more I'm just not thinking of.
Yes, this is all senseless shippy stuff, but I really wish there were more headcanons for this series (and more fic), so only fair to throw mine out there.
-Aqune always had feelings for Buguese in the back of her head, but was also in love with Hunter, so she put that aside. That and, given her circumstances, she doesn’t think starting any sort of romantic relationship is practical, period. She starts to realize how much she loves Buguese after he saves her in ep.49. Of course, she doesn’t have much time to think about it/dwell on him then, because as far as she knows, he’s dead and the entire world might be destroyed next. Post-series, she has a lot more time to think about it, and is completely aware that yes, she’s in love with Buguese.
-Buguese has been in love with Aqune for a fair bit of time. It’s just expectations that she would obviously hate him or at least never prefer him that makes him push all that aside, best he can. It’s too much a guilt trip to think of a relationship working out. Especially during the time of the series. Also, he’s busy fighting a war and more-or-less expects and even hopes to die, so it’s really out of the realm of possibilities for him.
-Buguese, being the workaholic he is, is obviously torn about being in a relationship with Aqune even in a post-series setting. Of course he wants to, but he’s well aware that there are still a lot of Insectors that don’t like humans/vice versa. If he starts a relationship with a human while he’s emperor, at least publically, it could be potentially messy. Aqune really wouldn’t mind a “secret” relationship though, so long as they could be together. She also thinks, on the flipside, it could be helpful to show the world a human and Insector united. Since human/Insector couples are probably rare to non-existent. Even if there are a few, if the human is a Spider Rider and the Insector is the leader of their race, that’s got to be monumental.
-Although their relationship is a “secret”, it’s not a very well kept one. At least, the Spider Riders know, as does Grasshop because Sparkle told him, though he could probably figure it out anyway. Stags figured it out, and probably Beerain. They just have the consideration to keep quiet about it, Grasshop with some persuading, probably, because he has a big mouth.
-Before Buguese and Aqune officially hook up, Aqune spends a lot of time healing him. And it’s a lengthy process, because of how close Buguese came to dying. Even though Buguese doesn’t like accepting help, not being strong enough to fight if another conflict emerges is a bigger problem in his pessimistic mind. And if it’s Aqune doing the healing, he can put up with it. Obviously.
-Buguese is actually the one to confess first. He’s really paranoid that Aqune will eventually stop visiting, and just stay with the Spider Riders forever. So he just wants her to know before the “inevitable” happens.  Aqune wanted to confess in the past, but she’s afraid of being rejected. She already felt kind of sad over Hunter choosing Corona (though she was happy for them), even though she wasn’t sure she liked Hunter that way anymore. And well, she had a lonely existence. Even though she has a lot of friends now, the thought of outright being rejected is daunting.
-They have a private wedding pretty quickly, with the intent on having a more public one when they can. Buguese still doesn’t want a lot of guests, because he doesn’t find parties practical for any reason, but if it will make Aqune happy, he’ll allow it.
-Aqune, naturally, does the cooking. Buguese tries, with disastrous results. (He’s still a better cook than Corona. It’s more that he has a lack of delicacy.) Aqune actually has a big appetite, and she’s really happy to not have to ration things. So she likes to cook a lot for her and for others. Buguese is still more practical and tries not to eat tons, even if he technically could. (Especially cactus. He loves cactus). However, when it comes to Aqune’s cooking, he finds it harder to resist. Aqune becomes interested in learning all sorts of new recipes. She often goes out to buy different kinds of fruits and vegetables, because they’re better for Insectors, who don’t like meat. She has the time, because Buguese often has political things to take care of. But he’ll come with her when he can. Buguese can get a bit too protective, and fears she might end up in trouble. Aqune doesn’t feel threatened, but she finds this more cute than annoying. She likes the affection.
-Still being a handmaiden, Aqune likes to go and help at Oracle shrines. Buguese is less enamored by this hobby than the cooking.  But he has hobbies that she doesn’t like (namely, he does a lot of sword-work practice, wanting to always be prepared), so he feels he can’t complain too much. Aqune does sometimes come to train with Buguese, just to spend the time with him. She isn’t really concerned about further threats though, and doesn’t wish to fight ever again.
-It’s extremely hard for a human and Insector to have kids. After much trying, Buguese and Aqune have one daughter. And it’s an extremely rough pregnancy for Aqune. She can’t get out of bed much. But it’s worth it in the end. They make a mutual decision not to try any more, for Aqune’s well-being, even though she wanted lots of kids. Their daughter isn’t too healthy at first, but she’s very fierce and adventurous. She gets better over time, as her body becomes stronger. Aqune encourages her to make a lot of friends with both the humans and Insectors, and get out and enjoy herself. (Well, by that time, if their relationship was a secret to anyone, it would be super hard to keep.) Buguese is naturally over-protective, but with limits. He wants her to be happy too. Just, he’d be happier if she took more after Insectors than humans. She actually does take after him the most. She’s stubborn, can be kind of arrogant, and loves to fight. (Play-fight really. Neither parent wants to think of her in an actual battle.)
-Buguese eventually re-builds The Ultimate Machine-Sector/Dark Opal, without the condition of needing the Oracle’s power to run. (He still likes building machines, in general.) He likes to take Aqune for rides in it. Aqune is actually scared of flying, due to trauma of falling from a ship in her past. (Her mask made it not an issue previously.) But she starts to get more comfortable with it thanks to this.
-Flying aside, they probably don’t go on a lot of traditional dates. They both prefer quiet, intimate time. Rather than congregating where a lot of other people are, they spend time cuddling in a locked bedroom at the castle. Aqune loves being buried under Buguese’s cape. It’s so warm and comforting.
-Buguese is torn over how to tell Aqune what he does know about her past. (He doesn’t know everything. Just that he found her in the forest, and they met once before, when he attacked her village. She saved his life, and she was treated as an exile as a result.) He thinks she may hate him, and rationalizes that it’s not a happy story anyway. He probably tells her this soon after they actually hook up. Mainly, he’s so pessimistic he’s still trying to figure out how the relationship will quickly come to a terrible end. Aqune is a bit startled by it, but says that since she doesn’t actually remember it, it doesn’t have the impact it probably should. However, she insists she isn’t angry with him, and is glad that he was willing to tell her. Of course, after hearing this, she wants to go to Nuuma and try to awaken these memories for real. Buguese takes her, still wanting to be sure she doesn’t hate him, and also thinks he can try to build better relationships with their nation (Yes, he’s that much a workaholic). And Aqune is really glad to help with that. When they go, Buguese is disliked for obvious reasons, but she’s incredibly defensive of him.
-Aqune asks Buguese to tell her about his own past, in which he admits he doesn’t really remember much either. He never actually put much thought into it, so this surprises even him. In fact, Buguese was artificially created by Mantid. He is actually slightly younger than Aqune. It’s just that he always had an adult body since his creation. Like the super-soldiers Mantid created. (Okay, I base their pasts heavily on Teletoon Corp stuff, but I just find this idea amusing.)
-Aqune’s earrings were a present from Buguese. Because she definitely didn’t have them before being with the Insectors, based on the flashbacks.
-Buguese is usually the one to wake up first, but he’s pretty used to going on minimal hours of sleep. He’d rather let Aqune sleep in if she has nothing to do.
-Buguese actually has a separate house outside of the castle, that he and Aqune use sometimes when they want to get away. Actually, he always had it, he just almost never used it because he was too busy and stayed in the castle. Aqune used it more than him in the past. (She always knew about it and was allowed to use it.) There’s actually barely anything in the house. Just some basic furniture and appliances.
-Buguese is still jealous of Hunter, and worries at least in the back of his head that Aqune would choose him. Of course Aqune catches onto this and assures him it’s not true, but he can never quite get over his dislike for Hunter. He’s just petty like that. Of course, he’s still civil towards Hunter.
-Aqune loves being princess-carried by Buguese. Buguese loves carrying her. She’s actually pretty light.
-Aqune likes to play with Buguese’s antennae. She just finds them cute. Despite the fact that Buguese has human-like senses, the antennae still function as a sensory device. So, it’s sort of an accidental turn-on for him.
-Aqune and Buguese make out a lot. Typically when no one else is around to see. But still, a lot. They’re actually very affectionate with each other. They like to hold hands too.
