Don’t mind me, just thinking about how Alicent and Rhaenyra’s best relationships were with their sworn protectors/knights in shining armor (Criston/Harwin), and their worst/most abusive relationships were with Targ*ryen men (V*serys/Da*mon)

Back to my AU where Rhaenyra marries Harwin and he watches over his babies whenever Rhaenyra has to go off for her Queenly duties.

Lucerys Targaryen is only a few months old, can't be left alone for long so Harwin tends to him when Rhaenyra is not around. But, lately, Prince Aemond has been sneaking into the newborns chambers and Harwin will watch as he stands on his tippy toes to stare at his newborn son as he sleeps the afternoon away while the rest of the world is awake and abuzz with life outside those double doors.

Prince Aemond, only a year and a few moons old, likes to babble in his own baby language to little Luke who can't understand a word he's saying but flails his tiny arms and kicks his legs around as though he does.

Jacaerys will whine and kick when he catches his uncle inside Luke's room. Harwin scolds him one day and asks him why he doesn't want his uncle Aemond to visit his younger brother and Jacaerys replies with a loud; "'Cause he wan' to steal him!"

Harwin thinks he's overreacting like an elder brother would until he finds Prince Aemond barely holding Luke up in his arms as he walks down the hall while little Luke is wrapped in a blue blanket, his tiny legs wobbling with every step as Harwin almost falls over with how hard he's roaring with his laughter.

"My prince," Harwin chuckles as he picks the two up and Prince Aemond screeches like a little angry dragon when Harwin's son is taken from his arms. "Luke needs to stay in his crib, yes? You wouldn't want your nephew to get hurt, now would you?"

It takes some coercing but Prince Aemond finally permits Harwin to return Luke to his tiny crib and he settles his teeny son back onto his bed as he holds onto his sky blue blankie.

Harwin smiles as he looks down and catches Prince Aemond still staring at little Luke and his son smiles as he catches his uncle's gaze.

"Do you love Luke, Prince Aemond?" Harwin asks.

"Yes!" Prince Aemond immediately gasps out, not even turning away to look at him as he answers, his gaze solely focused on Luke. "I wuv Luke." Harwin chuckles and pats his head.

"I'm glad, Luke loves you too, Prince Aemond," Harwin tells him and Prince Aemond glows so brightly one might think he was trying to imitate the sun. "You know, I think you are Luke's /favorite/ uncle."

Prince Aemond gasps so loudly and slaps his hands over his mouth dramatically before he falls on his butt in complete shock. Then, he slowly turns up to look at Harwin with wide eyes. "...favorite?"

"Yes!" Harwin laughs. "You are Luke's favorite, Prince Aemond."

"Favorite," Prince Aemond repeats and slowly looks over back at Luke and grins. "Favorite. Yes, I'm Luke's favorite! Like you are big sister's favorite!"

Harwin nods, thinking nothing of it. "Exactly, Princess Rhaenyra is my favorite as well."

Prince Aemond claps his hands and laughs like he just discovered something incredible. "Favorite! If I'm Luke's favorite, that means that we are gon' get mawwied!"

Harwin nods again. "Yes! That's exactly-"

And then he stops.

"Wait," He blinks. "Married?"

"Yes! Yes!" Prince Aemond shoots up and grips the bars to Luke's crib before bouncing on his feet. "Mawwied! Luke and I shall be mawwied when we older!"

Harwin is too stunned to stop Prince Aemond from rushing out of the room to inform a Septa of him and his son's future marriage, already planning out where they'll be wed (on Dragonstone, he finds out later) and what Luke will wear (a pretty green emerald dress like the Queen dresses in) and what will be served during the celebratory dinner (lemon cakes, as is little Luke's favorite dessert).

I'm not sure if I even have five fandom fics posted 😂 So we'll see how this goes! In no particular order..

1 All of our Book's Pages Dog Eared (Equestrian!Jace x Farrier!Cregan, House of the Dragon)

Inspired by a friend's incredible fic that got me into Jacegan as a ship, a british take on hotd horsefic. My longest multi-chapter for a fandom, I'm so proud of it. Farrier!Cregan takes a temp job at the Red Keep working for world famous dressage rider Rhaenyra Targaryen. Gets more than he bargained for in the form of her eldest son...

2 Shield that Guards the Realms of Men (Gen - for now. Harwin Lives, House of the Dragon)

This was wholly inspired by the hotd season 2 trailer seeing jace and cregan at the wall, and ended up making me expand a little personal drabble about Harwin being sent to the wall rather than dying at Harrenhal. When Jace visits the wall with Lord Cregan Stark to gain favour for his mother's war, there's a familiar face waiting for him in the Lord Commander. (Planning a Chapter 2 with some Jacegan but i've not managed to get around to it yet)

3 The Princess, The Queen and the Prince Consort (Canon Divergent!Harwin x Rhaenyra, House of the Dragon, Episode rewrite)

A rewrite of that scene in 1x06, where Harwin gets to punch Crispy. Rewritten based off of a roleplay over on @scripturient-roleplay. What if Harwin and Rhaenyra had been able to marry, and he survived into the dance?

4 To The Sea We Shall Return (Canon Divergent!Harwin x Rhaenyra, House of the Dragon, Episode rewrite)

Another episode rewrite, this time 1x07, the funeral on driftmark and Aemond losing an eye. We see things go down from Harwin's POV. I had a lot of fun with this one! Again, based off of a roleplay over on @scripturient-roleplay. Rhaewin living their best lives.

I don't have anything else published, but honourable mention to the Rhaewin F1!AU that I posted here just for fun that's since become over 100 pages of google docs rambling.

I’m going to argue book!Rhaenyra didn’t love him either. Since she was 8 she had loved only Criston, and after he rejected her she started a relationship with Harwin. Then we have George RR Martin himself coming out saying he wants to write a Rhaewin novel.

So although Daemon’s his favourite character George doesn’t view Daemyra as a romance worth telling, then we have the show where both the writers and actors are solely Team Rhaenicent.

Like how much more clear does the universe have to make it: Daemyra is not a romance! 🤣

For a few seconds i thought you're some anon person trying to fight 🤣🤣 sorry, it's bc that happened so many times past months

But YEAHHHHH! You're so right about that. i also never thought that book!Rhaenyra really loved Daemon. Neither book!Daemon loved her (or Laena, sorry but IN MY OPINION i don't feel Daemon, especially in the book, really loved any woman).

And i'm not even being an anti shippers or anything like that, bc i always LOVE non-canon ships or ships that don't even make sense. But what pisses me off about some Daemyra shippers is precisely bc they wanna talk bad about show!Rhaenicent and act as if Daemyra was a perfect true love story, even though GRRM doesn't see that couple in that way in his own books.

And i admit that i would LOVE a novel about Rhaewin. i always said that in the SHOW i imagine the only people Rhaenyra really loved romantically were Alicent and Harwin. And the reactions were always like "BUT RHAENICENT IS NOT EVEN CANON IN THE BOOKS 😡😡" or "WE DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT RHAENYRA'S RELATIONSHIP WITH HARWIN REALLY WAS LIKE 😡😡"

So... yeah, Rhaenicent isn't canon in the books and everyone knows about that, but Daemyra isn't a true romance in the books either. And apparently even GRRM is a Rhaewin shipper 🤣🤣

Saying again: I'm not an anti Daemyra. I even like the ship sometimes and i like their dynamics, but what gives me the "ick" is ppl talking bad about some other ships with Rhaenyra and acting like "a dragon needs another dragon 🤭🤭", like some reblog said. A dragon needs another dragon? Mhmm maybe. But these dragons were in love with each other? i don't think so...

currently reflecting on the missed opportunity to observe the growth of harwin's bond with his sons is especially heart-wrenching, particularly in light of lucerys' death. i cannot wait to see the emotions that rhaenyra will invoke this coming season.

I don't even ship Alicent with Rhaenyra, I'm more of a Laenyra fan and I hate that they won't remove the polyamorous relationship of Rhaenyra, Daemon and Laena (And maybe Harwin, hehe), that is to say, Laena deserves my love more than the green stepmother, but the moment I saw the trailer I even screamed when Aemond said that; maybe I got used to it; I just pray that if they gave Rhaicent, also give us Jacegan, I think this is much more canon than them.

The Dowager Queen (8/?)

Description: Harwin is finally able to be by Rhaenyra's side during the birth of their fourth child. While he does so, he observes the dynamics between the Targaryens.

Next chapter

Harwin had stood guard outside Rhaenyra’s room for all of their sons’ births, a grueling task, but one he knew he must endure for the safety of Rhaenyra and their children’s reputations. But now they’re married, and it’s safe for him to kneel by her side and let her hold his hand in her punishing grip.

“After the men see my hand, they will call you Lady Breakbones.” He jested weakly, willing his strength into Rhaenyra as her screams echoed off the vaulted ceiling.

“Once more, My Queen, the babe is nearly here.” Maester Orwyle said, his expression unflinching as Rhaenyra cursed him out in both Valerian and the Common Tongue.

“I will tear this babe from my body if it does not—” Rhaenyra’s threat died as she gave one final push and fell back against the pile of pillows, utterly spent.

Harwin smoothed back her hair and held his breath, waiting for the tell-tale cry of a newborn babe.

The moment between Rhaenyra’s cursing and the cry of their child seem to stretch forever, his heart pounding against his chest like the mighty wings of his wife’s dragon.

Finally, a small cry was heard, and a midwife brought the child to him. “A girl, My King.” She said, a bright smile on her face.

The entire realm knew how they longed for a girl, and Harwin blinked back tears of joy as he stared down at their daughter’s face.

She opened her eyes, and he let out a bark of a laugh, rousing Rhaenyra from her exhausted state. “What? Is she alright?”

He carried their daughter over to her gently, as if she were the most precious jewel, a thing of beauty made of the most delicate of spun glass.

Rhaenyra held her and her eyes sparkled with mirth. “A Targaryen child by blood and coloring, how ashamed those who spoke so vilely against our sons shall feel.” Then she brushed a finger down their daughter’s cheek. “Your brothers will be so excited to meet you, sweet Aemma.”

Harwin felt his heart would burst, and for a moment he felt a great wave of grief overtake him. His father would’ve loved a granddaughter, a little princess that belonged solely to the Strongs, that bore their family name with no shame, no doubt.

“Harwin, come see, her expression reminds me of your father.” Rhaenyra called; her whole being focused on Aemma.

He did as she asked and fought back tears. Aemma’s expression one of a fatigued curiosity stirred such powerful memories his head dropped to Rhaenyra’s shoulder, and he wept, both from sorrow and joy.

Rhaenyra’s hand carded through his hair as she dismissed the maester and midwives. “Oh, Aemma look at your father, can you believe this is the man they call Breakbones?” She teased, not unkindly, but affectionately, an understanding smile on her radiant face. “Fatherhood has softened him.”

He took her hand from his hair and pressed it to his lips, applying soft kisses to the pads of each finger. “You are a goddess, brilliant and determined, the strongest woman in the realm.”

She smiled at him and scooted ever so carefully over so that he could lay beside her. He curled his arm around her, bringing his wife and daughter into his embrace. This is where they should stay, where he could protect them.

Rapid knocks at the door caught his attention and soon enough the door was flung open, Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey barreling in, followed by Alicent and Helaena.

“I did try to keep them outside, but…”

Rhaenyra smiled at Alicent and beckoned her over with one hand. “Come, meet your niece.”

Alicent bounded over with a childlike joy that looked so odd coming from a woman he had previously considered dour and strict, that he nearly began to laugh once more.

“I am glad we have done away with the grandmother title; it did make me feel so dreadfully old.” She said, kneeling beside the bed, a soft look in her eyes. “Oh, Rhaenyra, she is beautiful.”

Helaena came up behind her mother as Harwin threw his arm out to keep the boys from jumping onto the bed.

He knew it was not the supposed age that truly bothered Alicent, but the reminder of her marriage to Viserys. He had suggested the change after seeing how Helaena crinkled her nose at anyone referring to Jacaerys as her nephew.

While he found the idea of betrothing blood together appalling, he would not question his wife’s traditions. All he could do was ponder aloud if it would not suit all parties better if Rhaenyra and Alicent were to operate as sisters the way they had before.

Both women had fallen quite naturally back into the position, and soon most of the court referred to them as such.

“I want to see her.” Joffrey whined impatiently, trying to slip under Harwin’s arm.

“Let Jace see her first, he is the eldest.” Rhaenyra said gently, nodding at their firstborn.

Jacaerys carefully climbed up onto the bed and slightly pulled the blanket away from Aemma’s face. “What did you name her?”

“Aemma, the gentle one.” Helaena said softly, staring at Aemma from beside Alicent.

“Yes, that—that is right, her name is Aemma.” Rhaenyra said, looking at Helaena with a curious look in her eyes.

“You were right, Helaena, I owe you a lemon cake.” Jacaerys said, giving Helaena a smile Harwin knew was saved specifically for her.

Helaena reached out and stroked Aemma’s tuff of silver hair. “Ours will not share this coloring.”

Jacaerys cheeks, still rounded but soon on their way to the sharpening that came with manhood, flared a bright pink and Harwin saw Rhaenyra’s shoulder shake with silent laughter.

“I want to see Aemma too.” Lucerys protested, finally losing his patience and clambering up on the bed, Joffrey following after with gleeful delight.

“Boys.” Both Alicent and Rhaenyra chided, their voices riddled with the exhaustion that only grows after years of motherhood.

“Sorry.” Lucerys and Joffrey said, moving with a deliberate slowness as not to further upset their mother.

“She is so small, was I that small?” Joffrey asked, his eyes wide with wonder.

“No, you were fat and round like a toad.” Lucerys jested, his hand, still small, resting on Aemma’s blanketed form.

“No, Jace tell him that is not true.” Joffrey cried.

“No, of course, not, you were merely ugly like a toad.” Jacaerys snickered, unable to resist joining in.

“I think toads are lovely, they are able to jump very high, and they sing without care.” Helaena said, giving Joffrey a soft smile.

“See, this is why I love Helaena the most.” He said, scrambling off the bed to wrap his arms around Helaena, hiding behind her.

Jacaerys reacted immediately, pulling Joffrey from her. “Joff, you must ask first.”

Joffrey pouted, his shoulders sagging, and he turned to Helaena.

She bit her lip then nodded.

He brightened and wrapped his arms around her once more, sticking his tongue out at his brothers.

Harwin shook his head fondly and thanked the gods for the joy they had blessed him with, before he pressed a kiss to the crown of Rhaenyra’s head. “You did this, you have given me, the realm, so much joy.”

Rhaenyra tilted her head up and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. “It is you who has brought me such joy.”

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Alicent slip from the room, a white cape following behind. “Perhaps you should encourage your sister to pursue her own joy.” He whispered, lips brushing against Rhaenyra’s with each word.
