I tried my best to replicate the Harvest Moon art style a la Tree of Tranquility/Animal Parade in order to draw a Human!Farmer!Beel. This idea is thanks to @misc-obeyme ‘s and their Human!AU! Just a cute farmer boy bringing a lost sheep back! (BG literally from the HM:ToT game lol)

Show me your top 3 bokumono/story of seasons/harvest moon styles! You can also explain why, or not!
I go first
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tree of Tranquility: The art's color grading is so warm, and the stylization of the characters was/is refreshing! The artist for this game (and Animal Parade) is Mika Nunokawa, instead of regular series artist Igusa Matsuyama.
Save the Homeland: Sorry AWL fans, this game has the crown for the old-type stylized 3D models. I wish they stuck with this a bit longer. :c
Tale of Two Towns had that really nice in-between style of chibi and full size that I really enjoyed. (I also like Story of Seasons 3DS for a similar reason, but not as much as Tale of Two Towns'.)

i've divulged, it's your turn
what farming sim is your favorite, and what cast of marriage candidates are your favorite?
Alright, here we go.
[Rubs hands together.]
I started out in the farming simulator genre on the Gamecube with the original A Wonderful Life. Despite that, I'm not super nostalgic for it and actually passed up on the remake. For the most part, I prefer the Wii and 3DS titles. My sister and I both had copies of Sunshine Islands and Islands of Happiness as kids, so that's near and dear to our hearts. So is A Magic Melody (GC, not remake), which I beat many times.
Arguably, though, my favorite is definitely Animal Parade. I played it as a kid and I remember liking the both Witch Princess and Wizard, which were probably early signs that I was pansexual. Rune Factory 4 was another favorite of mine though now that I'm older, I actually don't like it as much in retrospect? It's still a great game though.
I think where marriage candidates win though, it's Rune Factory 5 hands down. Lucas, Ryker, Ludmila, Beatrice, and Reinhard (Ludmila definitely awoken something in me, but I just had to go with the one voiced by Alejandro Saab). The fact that you can date and marry regardless of your character's gender feels so revolutionary for these titles, so I'm glad that Marvelous committed to it!
Honorable farming sim mentions include Stardew Valley, Disney Dreamlight Valley, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons which I have sunk so much time into (even if the latter two aren't technically part of the farming simulator genre). Stardew Valley is probably my favorite of the non-Rune Factory and non-Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons style (I always marry Alex or Haley, haha) though Disney Dreamlight Valley still continues to steal a lot of my time!

for your farm sim ask game! 🍅🍍 (for the festival question, pick from any of the games! or if that's too broad, animal parade?)
Thank you so much for the ask 💚
From my Farming Sim Ask Game
Below the cut, because I can't give short answers to these questions 😅
🍅 (Tomato) - Favourite and least favourite festival?
I always enjoy the Animal Festivals in these games. It's just so rewarding to see all your hard work paying off. I really miss them in games that don't have them (like AWL and Stardew Valley).
The Animal Parade Animal Festival is particularly great because you've got the Livestock Contest, the Pet Contest and the Horse Race all in one, plus sales venders and a silly photo stand. I love it when they give us more than just the main festival activity to do!
For least favourite, I'm actually going to choose a non AP festival - the Pumpkin Festival in FoMT/SI etc annoys me, because the child characters (and others) come to you that day. Which isn't that bad, but it means I have to hang around, not just the farm, but close to my farmhouse all day to see them.
The reason the Pumpkin Festival is more annoying to me than, say, White Day, is because it falls on the last day of Autumn! So I'm frantically trying to harvest my crops and get my animals indoors for Winter, and I have to keep stopping every 10 minutes or so to talk to a kid that just demands candy from me! Grrr.
🍍(Pineapple) - What is your favourite art style of all the games?
This is a tough one, since there's so many different styles across the games.
I would probably have to say the original Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life.
There's definitely an element of nostalgia in my choice, but I also adore how realistic the game felt at the time.
I'm still blown away by some of the scenery even 20 years later (that river is gorgeous!!)
Tumblr media
I also love the more realistic animal designs as well. Bubble cows are iconic, don't get me wrong, but I'll always pick the AWL cows as my favourites.
As much as I adore the remake, I'm a little sad that it lost something with the slightly more cartoony, saturated aesthetic. That's just my opinion, though.
Thank you so much for asking 💚

Also I’m not criticising Stardew Valley at all - I love that game so much I bought it for PC, Switch and iPad lmao. Compared to FoM the characters are a little more flat but that’s all, otherwise Stardew is a fucking amazing Game.
I’ve played Harvest Moon DS the most followed by Animal Parade for the Wii and Tale of two towns for the 3DS and several others I don’t remember the names of right now 💀 but all in all my criticism goes towards the HM/SoS games post 2016ish I’d say and especially after 2020.
I just remember that huge feeling of disappointment when I started story of seasons a wonderful life and expected a nostalgic feeling and instead got hit with utter shock at how flat (and kinda ugly :| ) all the characters got. I adored Celia in DS, in sos wonderful life she just scared the shit out of me with the horrible design and deadness in her eyes.
And probably unpopular opinion but I don’t like the whole 3D Animating thing going on in the new games, the camera floating around 360 style and all. I loved my little 2D Pixel characters and still do. Celia my beloved…
It’s the same with cartoons, the 3D clayification of Heidi, Biene Maja and more. :(
If well done I ofc love 3D games like Bg3, the forest etc. haha
Also I scrolled a bit down your blog and am wondering if you’re German? Bc if yes, I could’ve done all those essays in german instead 😭
Lmao how did u know I speak German?! Jk, but I agree totally with what you said about friends of mineral town, I never played the og so I was really excited to play the remake and I couldn't even get past the first season of the first year, I got bored so quickly, I think it's because the map feels so claustrophobic again. Like, I'm not asking every farming game to be open world, but SDV did a fantastic job at having a town, a forest and a mining area and not make it feel like I'm stuck in some kind of cultist town where outsiders are not allowed and you can't leave.
I'm not totally against the 3D models, I really just adored trio of towns, the characters are 3D but you still get a cute 2D sprite of them, I found that was a perfect solution for HM games. I think I'm just really nostalgic about classic Disney animation, since I don't like the new modern 3D animation style either. I get it cheaper but it also lost its charme like that, such a shame. (But yes, we can agree on Biene Maja and Heide, keep KiKa shows 2D for the love of god!)
I'm kinda worried if they ever decide to remake Animal Parade (my beloved), that they'll fuck it up like they did with wonderful life, I'd rather they just don't touch it and the game can live on as a pleasant memory from the past.
SDV is obviously an amazing game overall, I'm not hating on it either, it was one of the best modern farming games I've played, it's literally become the standard for farming games (for better or for worse).
But since I don't think we'll ever get that magical, whimsical feeling from HM/SOS ever again, I think FoM might just become a classic in that genre. Of course the game is in ea but I have hopes and dreams 🫶

🍁 Autumn- and Halloween-Style Traditions Present on Planet Arsteine in the World of HERA 🌟
Harvest Festival/Spirit Festival
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This annual festival is similar in a few ways to the harvest moon festivals present in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese culture. Families and friends come together to make and eat (a lot!) of food, release lanterns and light candles to honor ancestors and the celestial goddesses, watch the moon and be thankful for their many blessings and a bountiful harvest. In the more rural parts of Arsteine this is referred to as the Harvest Festival, but in large cities like the capital, Thruhairth, city dwellers call it the Spirit Festival, which has the same festivities as its country counterpart but they claim they have the louder music, more confetti (Thruhairth dwellers love their confetti), and stronger hard cider!
March of the Masks
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Around the same time as the Spirit Festival, another spectacle takes place in the capital city and that's the March of the Masks. An entire parade of citizens dressed in traditional garbs who have donned (usually eerie and unsettling) versions of the elegant animal and mythic creature masks usually worn by nobles at balls. The March of the Masks originally started as a way that peasants would mock the nobles and royalty for wearing these animal masks, making their own mangled, startling versions of animals like foxes, deer, wolves, rabbits, etc. Eventually however, the all residents regardless of financial or social standing claimed the act as tradition and now the March of the Masks (complete with choreographed dances, music, singing, and sparklers!) is a much-anticipated event in the capital Thruhairth.
The Star Dance
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meant to honor the seven celestial goddesses, the Star Dance is a peaceful, respectful homage presented to the stars in the form of an elegant march beneath the stars along holy routes the empresses were thought to have taken. Priestesses look upon the Star Dance as both a serious custom and also a party of their own, however, often opening the temple to host families and devotees for the night with tea, sweet cakes, and dumplings. Families often arrive in their best robes, with children thought to receive good luck if they can avoid eating sugar before the moon rises (which as you can imagine is like asking the stars themselves not to rise).
Thanks for reading, and be sure to check out HERA: To Catch a Star here and stay tuned for book 2 in the HERA trilogy coming very soon! Be sure to like, reblog, and share with friends!

Honestly loving Fashion Dreamer right now. Is it quite as good as Style Savvy was? No, but if they listen to the feedback of the player base and implement suggestions, it can get better. But logging into online mode (all you need is an internet connection, no Nintendo Online needed!) and seeing people make us cute outfits (We now have two muses, one female [or "type A"] and one male [or "type B"], with the male being inspired by Julius from Harvest Moon: Animal Parade and Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility.) and being able to make outfits for those newer to the game than us is so nice! And all the different Cocoons are so neat, especially Cocoon Fun! Logging in to a flood of notifications from other players liking whatever We set to be our trendy item or stuff in our store (can it even be called a store if you don't buy items?) or even just what our muses wear is so nice as well. We always make sure to send a thanks stamp for such interactions as well as a nice stamp for outfits made for us! It's only basic etiquette, really. Yeah, the whole fact that a gender binary basically still exists despite the characters being labeled with such neutral terms as "type A" and "type B" is a big disappointment, but overall the game is still very fun!
