Damn I need to say this, this fandom (and all fandoms) face such cognitive dissonance when trying to do mental gymnastics about what is what. I did too in my initial years.

But if there's anything my decade long fandom membership taught me, that is, NOTHING THAT SEEMS TO BE TRUE IN THE ENTERTAINMENT WORLD IS TRUE. The relationships that we are being fed are definitely not.

The problem begins when we, the real life people, try to apply our real world logic, to entertainment industry relationships. The rules won't apply, people could hate each other and work together cause it's money (eg actors). The sole motive is money and lots and lots of it, so anything goes. And because how competitive it is and volume of money involved is high, manipulation needs to happen at the larger scale, so the media gets involved. And narratives are fed to clown the human monkey mind.

I personally 100% believe Larry is together because of how protective they are of their personal lives and how hard the denials are. It's something sacred and worth keeping out of the public eye, which is why they do it. Their relationship is not for our consumption and they are sending that message to us loud and clear and I respect that.

i feel like so much of the reason that harry became somewhat out of favor in the eyes of the general public is because of so many people’s terrible understanding of “queerbaiting”, thinking that that’s what Harry was doing. It’s what happened when Kit Connor was bullied into coming out of the closet. Also along with his Grammy’s acceptance speech and saying “this doesn’t happen to people like me” and people just looking at him as a cis straight white man. Hopefully people online have done some maturing since then in the time he’s been on break. I would hate for people’s online marks to dampen his spirit at all. Although with the state of the world right now, I couldn’t and wouldn’t blame him for going with a more conventional “straight man” persona and appearance moving forward simply to protect himself and his mental health.

I agree that some mistakes here and there and overly aggressive stunts may have left some people feeling slightly off about him. I think Harry plays a very dangerous game trying to balance being authentic while also leaning into his overly sexualized image. That creates a lot of confusion and worries me a lot.

But honestly though, I don’t think people outside of this bubble (lgbtq+) seem to care that much, they just accept his straight fuck boy image without question. That said, I think a combination of missteps, like his Grammys speech, certain stunts, and his movies, may have shifted things in a direction he didn’t entirely envisioned. And, as I mentioned before, Harry’s controversies attract a lot of attention. So relying too heavily on that kind of attention is risky because it can reach a point where there’s nothing meaningful left for people to say about him or his music, which is what truly matters.

That’s why I think it’s so important for him to keep evaluating what parts of himself he’s comfortable sharing and focus on what feels meaningful. I’m not going to lie, I would and will judge him harshly if he shifts his career to something that didn’t feel authentic to who he is in the most meaningful things of his career, because one of the things I truly admire about Harry is his bravery. Whether it’s raising flags (literally or figuratively), making the kind of music he does, wearing whatever he wants, or giving the bold performances he’s known for, those are things no one can take away from him. Mistakes happen, and marketing is a necessary part of the industry, but at the end of the day, his authenticity is what sets him apart.

I haven’t really seen any of the more recent U.S. election news hitting tumblr yet so here’s some updates (now edited with sources added):

There’s evidence of Trump cheating and interfering with the election.

Possible Russian interference.

Mail-in ballots are not being counted or “recognized” in multiple (notably swing) states.

30+ bomb threats were called in and shut down polling stations on Election Day.

20+ million votes are still unaccounted for, and that’s just to have the same voter turnout as 2020.

There was record voter turnout and new/first-time voter registration this year. We definitely should be well over the turnout in 2020.

U.S. citizens are using this site to demand, not only a recount, but a complete investigation into election fraud and interference for the reasons stated above:

An investigation for election interference and fraud is required. We desperately need a recount or even a revote. The American people deserve the right to a free and fair election. There has been evidence unveiled of Trump cheating and committing election fraud which is illegal. There is some evidence of possible Russian interference. At least 30+ bomb threats were called in to polling places. Multiple, notably swing states, have ballots unaccounted for and voting machines not registering votes. Ballots and ballot boxes were tampered with and burned. Over 20 million votes that we know of are unaccounted for. With record turnout and new voter registration this year, there should be no possibility that there are less votes than even in the 2020 election.

Sorry, I didn’t want to come off as rude. I just wanted to make sure I read your posts correctly because I have a hard time telling if something is sarcasm or if it’s meant for fun or if there’s context hidden between the lines and so on. I think the article from the Sun is no different than the consistent “harry is better off solo” shit we’ve seen in the media for the past 8ish years. I think it’s ridiculous to believe anything from the Sun, and they’re jumping on the back of the 1d reunion rumours a few days before the Brits for some clout and clicks. 99% of that article is mainly talking about how Harry’s team thinks it’s a bad idea and what they have to say about it, with no direct quote from harry himself (but a very chatty “source” instead!).

I think he’s been consistently marketed as “better” than 1d, and of course they have that angle, because it’s what gets people listening. It’s literally to get him more famous. That article says something about how he’s worked so hard to have now earned “respect and credibility” as if 1d weren’t respected or credible because they were a boyband. Which is what boybands have always been viewed as. It’s the same formula we have seen time and time again. 1 successful breakout star, the rest left behind. “He would never go back, that’ll be a step back in his career!! Stop the rumours!! We have more money to make off him!! He will never be a successful solo star again if he goes back!!! It’ll halt his whole career!! It’ll look like a money grab!! No one will take him seriously anymore!!” which is…….

Kinda true in a bit of a roundabout way. Solo harries will spontaneously combust and be upset with him, of course they will, and it would be extremely tricky to have this done right without looking like he’s losing credibility or whatever other shit they wanna spew. I think if harry did a big interview explaining what 1d meant to him and that he’d love to do it to honour the fans and the boys and how he got to where he is now and assure everyone he’s not stopping his solo career, maybe it’d calm them down. If he genuinely doesn’t give a fuck and goes against what his team has to say about it, it’ll be an absolute power move but yes, it will look like a money grab. And it’ll look like a money grab if any of the other boys agree to do it. To “boost their fame” and then another article about a vendetta or whatever comes out.

And you know what this boils down to at its very core? This absolute fucking bullshit about “losing credibility” if he were to go back? This shit about boybands?

Anyway, young girls run this damn music industry, by the way. Young girls keep the pop genre running. They keep these artists afloat. And they have done nothing but keep harry going since 1d ended, and (most) continue to support the other boys in their own careers. It is no different being a fan of an artist to being a fan of a sports team. Hell, those guys keep the sports industry running, and they’re more hysterical (and way more violent) than we’ll ever be.

My point is, that boybands don’t get taken seriously because young girls don’t get taken seriously. But we are the driving force behind pop music. And until there is some recognition and a tip of a hat to 1d for everything they went through and their work ethic, some good media, a fucking doco, SOMETHING, his team is gonna advise him not to go back. Hell, they will still advise against it, but hopefully he can make his own decisions throughout this renegotiation/change of management/label and be able to do the things he wants to do. I hope he speaks up. And he has a fuckton of power to change things, and that’s why his managers freak out.

Okay, well, final notes and if you got this far, congrats. Maybe there will be an encore sometime. But my point is that none of those boys would’ve been advised to go back if they were in harrys shoes. If Louis had run the same career as harry, did the exact same thing as harry to a T, people would be hating on him too. Honestly, I hadn’t seen this rebellious side of Harry before, especially since I’m a bit newer to the fandom. I knew H and L fought against closeting during the band days, but I hadn’t seen these moments where Harry looks genuinely frustrated with the whole sex symbol/womaniser image. You can literally see how tired he is with it all.

Since we don’t really see that frustration anymore (at least not explicitly), I wonder how Harry has learned to deal with everything. I think he’s distanced himself from his public persona enough to use it to his advantage (like in songwriting) and even poke fun at it.

At this point, I guess he’s not forced to do anything, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t affect him. I wonder if we’ll get a song on HS4 that reflects how he felt during 2022-2023, when he was under a lot of public scrutiny and criticism.

Oh, if that’s the first you’re seeing of it, there’s so much more to hart than what you see today. That video makes me so sad.

I think when he went solo he made a conscious decision to “claw back” some of his privacy. Stepping away from social media and learning how to really work and a private life was a big step. I think therapy has helped him immensely.

People complain about how we only get “Harry Styles TM” these days, but I think he’s why we still have Harry Styles with us as a healthy, sane person. I truly can’t imagine being him without being able to turn off the circus of being “THE Harry Styles.”

why do people talk about harry like he's got no control? That’s not a realistic take on his situation. hes on the same level as someone like Taylor Swift. It’s ridiculous to think someone like TS doesn’t have control over her career, even if her image is highly curated.

He made his choice and he is playing both sides, and he’s happy with that. Good for him, I guess. I don’t blame him— in the entertainment industry, you either sell your soul and become one of them or face sabotage, like Louis.

I partially disagree with this take, anon. If anything, the bigger an artist is, the more they are in the hands of their label. This idea completely ignores how the industry actually works.

So many major artists end up tied to insanely abusive contracts with no way out because they’re worth too much, and the label wants full control over their careers. One Direction was (arguably) even bigger than Harry, and look at the awful situation they were in. And it’s not just the.. huge names like Michael Jackson, Prince, and Kesha all faced industry control issues. And let’s not even get started on boybands in general.

The difference with Harry, I think, is that he learned from everything he went through in 1D and started his solo career with that knowledge. Over time he gained influence and bargaining power. I fully believe he has significant creative freedom now and makes his own choices. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t still part of a massive business machine with contracts, obligations, and a carefully curated image.

I don’t think he’s being forced to do or not do anything, but I do believe he’s highly advised, and his choices ultimately come down to whether he wants to keep playing the industry game. That’s where the confusion comes in… he has freedom, but at the same time, he really doesn’t. The bottom line is that he’s not being held captive. And if he were truly stuck in something he didn’t want to be a part of, it’s hard to justify why he’d still be here, actively making choices that keep him in the industry and playing both sides.

And with Louis it’s even more fascinating because he’s much more closed off and I can imagine he doesn’t let many people in and he’s got such a close-knit circle. (which Harry does too.) But those who are part of it, are the nicest and most down to earth people who praise the floor Louis walks on. It really reflects well on Louis. And people who worked with him all get starry-eyed. Some U.S. election news updates (as of afternoon November 7, 2024):

Many states, including major battleground ones, have started recounting votes on their own despite there still being no national call for a recount. Some of these states recounting or considering recounting as of November 7, 2024 include: Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Nevada, Arizona (considering), and Texas (considering).

Most news outlets have been covering state laws regarding recounts and what a recount could mean. Notably, right-wing sources like Fox News have not mentioned the possibility of a recount or the high demand for one (hmmm).

In cities such as Chicago and Philadelphia, people took to the streets in a peaceful protest to demand a recount (wait, you can protest peacefully?? without starting an insurrection?? Crazy).

More information alleging Trump cheating has come forward, although many people are expressing their frustrations over there being little to no coverage of election interference by the mainstream media. Additionally, many Democratic voters are vowing to boycott news sources such as CNN and MSNBC due to their apparent tone-deaf and lackluster response to the allegations.

On Twitter, hashtags such as “Do Not Concede Kamala,” “Recount 2024,” “He/Trump Cheated,” and “Rigged” continue to trend nationally since election night.

Also in the Twitter hellscape, Elon Musk has been removing posts with resources, posts alleging Trump cheated, and posts with information on how to check your ballot and demand a recount. This is awfully suspicious and concerning behavior from someone who has also been accused of bribing voters, which is a federal crime.

Many people are also sharing their grief over the extreme likelihood of programs and services such as Social Security, Medicare, SNAP, the Department of Education, and others being diminished or fully gutted as many Republican lawmakers and Trump have promised to do. Already today (Nov. 7), House Republicans have proposed a bill that would reduce social security payments for U.S.Americans who receive disability benefits or a pension.

There are also concerns over imposed tariffs, the United States losing its NATO membership, and the potential dissolving of the United Nations.

Many MAGA Trump supporters have started to be more emboldened, not just in the Twitter space. Multiple parents have come forward to share that young boys at their children’s schools have also begun repeating the “your body, my choice” mantra, leaving other kids in distress.

Speaking of distress, nationwide, queer and trans people have been largely absent from work and school. Since election night, LGBTQ+ and other helplines have had long waits due to such high demand.

Politically, sitting President Joe Biden addressed the nation today to discuss a “peaceful transfer of power.” He addressed people questioning Donald Trump’s win and the election system saying: “It is honest, it is fair, and it is transparent, and it can be trusted, win or lose."

Needless to say, no one was pleased by his response and are still demanding an investigation or recount.

Other political figures such as Bernie Sanders and the Obamas’ released their own statements regarding the election.

The video shows people in the streets of Chicago and in front of Trump tower peacefully protesting in demand for a recount and investigation.

The second video was also posted to Twitter by CALL TO ACTIVISM (@CalltoActivism) on November 6, 2024. It’s a video from MSNBC reporting on the strange behavior of Trump leading up to the election where he repeatedly said he didn't need votes. These statements seem to imply that regardless of how people voted, he expected to gain power.

The next image is of the official statement regarding the election results by Barack and Michelle Obama.

The statement reads:

And many of them worry that Artificial Intelligence and robotics will make a bad situation even worse. Today, despite spending far more per capita than other countries, we remain the only wealthy nation not to guarantee health care to all as a human right and we pay, by far, the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs. We, alone among major countries, cannot even guarantee paid family and medical leave.
