I’m super curious because I was always on the fringes but never in it—why do you think the hp rp community died?

Welcome! It's cool that you liked the community, it's a time that I look back on very fondly :)

I think there are two main reasons that the community petered out (and I will probably forget some reasons).

Firstly, JK Rowling is a terf, and with a community that was so heavily LGBT+, a strong disconnect was created between the RPers and the source material. People didn't want to cosplay and have that connection to such crappy political beliefs.

Secondly, I think a lot of cosplayers moved to TikTok when that became popular in the community. Making TikToks is, in a lot of ways, easier than making gifs to post on Tumblr, and the TikTok algorithm makes it so that your cosplays are viewed by more people than they would be on Tumblr. When popular people in the hp rp community moved to TikTok (like @asktheboywholived and @sirussly), the community inevitably had less traction here.

I also think there are a few other reasons that come to mind, but these are the main two imo. I'm really curious what everyone else thinks of this!

HEY, NERDS!

Fellow newbie to tumblr so I’m not sure if this is even gonna reach anyone but I hope it does. I’m a 23 year old bisexual male.

I’d love to find some writing partners. 18+ ONLY.

I have a few fandoms I love to write in such as Stephen King’s It (2017), Stranger Things, Harry Potter, Marvel and a few more. I really love using OCs as well. World building is so so fun, so let’s create our own characters!

I only rp on discord, I’m a descriptive literate writer and I expect my partners to be as well. I’m okay with smut as long as the characters are adults, I have only like two limits with writing plots and such for trigger warnings and I’m a pretty fast responder if I do say so myself. Plus, I cosplay!

I’ve been rping for almost 12 or so years now and only really have one steady friend to do it with. I also love to act and do video/voice calls in character though that’s now required at all! I have so much to say but I’ll end this post and hopefully I can talk more with you if you choose to message!

A few tidbits before I go:

I’m a Libra sun, Aquarius moon and Cancer rising. INFP, Ravenclaw and I’m the CST zone!

In middle school me and my friends did this thing called “half day shenanigans” whenever we had half days

We took turns picking a theme then all got dressed for it — one time we did cottage core, my friend picked Harry Potter, another picked fantasy/ren faire — we’re all super into cosplay and ren faires and whatnot, so usually between the three of us we could make it work. And then we’d take our bikes and do something completely random

We went to a Target, bought 99¢ marshmallows and Starbucks(pre-boycott ofc), I grabbed some school supplies and one person got the latest paper copy of Heartstopper. We got some weird looks but we always had the best time, same for when we went to play board games at a local rp store/board game cafe(that actually was the biggest hit), once we got my mom to take us to the aquarium on tickets we got from a school thing. Another time it was just us figuring out scar makeup in my bedroom(we had other people over with my mom and brother. The parents were genuinely concerned we’d gotten in a fight, we were very proud)(and then had to take it off because I had a doctor’s appointment)

Absolutely the most fun, and we weren’t as awkward because we weren’t the only ones. Sure, it led to a very last-minute Sirius Black running through a target to find a random Ravenclaw, but honestly it was the best. Bonus, a lot of folks loved seeing it

My friends and I used to do this thing where we'd dress up on a theme and go do something totally normal.

We dressed up as pirates and went bowling.

We dressed as vikings and went to the grocery store. The security guard told us we had to move our longship because it was illegally parked.

We dressed as Romans and went to Blockbuster. The staff chanted, "toga! Toga! Toga!" at us.

We dressed up all steampunk and went to the museum. Tourists kept taking our picture.

and i totally don't mind!! i wrote for the harry potter fandom before moving over here. but i ended up doing rps and cosplays more after making some friends who did the same. it was fun, but it was an extremely toxic environment. plus, we all kinda went our separate ways with the fandom after realizing that Rowling is literally insane. i do still keep up with a few people though.

i've kept my blog as an archive, just so i can see how far i've come with writing (and proofreading omggg). but, harry potter was never a BIG portion of my life like tloz has been, so it was easy to move forward. i did take a long break before writing again though. and i'm so glad i got back into it!! it's honestly the best part of my day <333
