Got lots and lots of solenoids?
We were chatting with a customer and realized we need a better solution for customers with many solenoids or other high-current on/off loads. This breakout will make it easy to control and power many inductive or high-current loads. An mcp23017
https://www.digikey.com/short/nf4pn2rc
expander over I2C provides 8 output pins, each connected to an AO3406 N-Channel FET
https://www.digikey.com/short/rh398zbh
with a 1N4007 flyback diode.

Terminal blocks allow for quick wiring to power and each high current output, including one chunky block for the power input. The other 8 expander I/Os are exposed if you want buttons or simple LEDs. The breakouts have stemma QT for fast chaining/control over I2C.

RPi + Kano OS + PICO-8 workstation
Tumblr media
Last year, game dev Dylan Bennet tweeted about this project he was working on: the setup of several workstations to teach kids to develop games with PICO-8.
He’s using Raspberry Pi’s with Kano OS installed (from Kano PCs). The monitor is a 10.1″ LCD screen with the RPi attached on the back.
The setup looks smart and cool, specially for kids learning the ropes!
be sure to check Dylan Bennet’s twitter feed and other endeavors, like his PICO-8 Game Development Zine and itch.io page.

Ladyada's desk gets a scope cart
We've always wanted a portable scope cart
for our workspace to have our test equipment either by the desk for firmware work or at the soldering worktable for rework debugging. At our new office, we finally have space for one! We picked up this 'dental cart'
- It is not super fancy, but it is metal, and it came together fairly easily. We like the mini top shelf for the scope and the second shelf underneath for the power supply and electronic load. The drawer can hold leads or probes. We've locked it next to our desk so we have more desktop space, and it's easy to peek over as we bring up new boards like the metro RP2350
We'll also get the VGA output into our video streaming setup to show off signals we're working on.

🎉New Pico 2 W just dropped - and CircuitPython is ready to go!🎉
We just got the OK to put the Pico 2 W in the shop. You can pick it up at
, and you might be wondering: hey, do you have CircuitPython built for it? The answer is YES! We have secretly added support, and v9.1.2 has a build ready. We'll be adding it to the
downloads page shortly, but if you've got one in hand before launch somehow, you can check out the builds in the Absolute Latest S3 Bucket
the pico 2w is a great upgrade with twice the speed, twice the SRAM and twice the flash memory, solving many frustrations folks had with the original Pico W.

Best PICO-8 Handheld ?
There are many projects, hacks and devices that support PICO-8, either out-of-the-box or with some tinkering required.
Tumblr media
The ClockworkPi Gameshell is one of those, and one of the best... Or not. That depends on your needs and your budget.
As with many other consoles meant for hackers and tinkerers, the Gameshell has its pros and cons.
Krystian Majewski from the Lazy Devs Academy already did a very thorough review of the Gameshell specifically for PICO-8 usage, so you better watch that video:
youtube
You should judge for yourself if the console suits your needs and if it is a good candidate for THE BEST PICO-8 HANDHELD.
In our opinion, the cons outweigh the pros: It’s very expensive, and the lack of a keyboard (in contrast to the PocketCHIP) means you can only use it to play games in portable mode... And that’s a deal-breaker for us. But if you are looking for a handheld to only play your PICO-8 games while developing in another platform, then the control scheme is ideal.
Tumblr media
Also, if you are an emulation or retro-gamer fan, the Gameshell seems to be much more capable than the aforementioned CHIP.
The assembly-kit / DIY / easily hackable nature of the Gameshell is also a fun aspect of it, but if that is useful or just a gimmick is another thing that you’ll have to judge for yourself.

Raspberry Pi PICO case
Tumblr media
A few years ago, a user by the name of gradualgames  posted this photo on the BBS of a Raspberry Pi case customized with a 3D printed logo of PICO-8.  Simple, but extremely cool!
