In a year in which words of hate, bigotry, and ignorance flowed without pause, you helped turn up the volume on a different message: LGBTQ Jews are welcome, celebrated, and included in our communities.

As anti-LGBTQ policies and violence are on the rise, it is especially important that #LGBTQ youth know they are not alone. Today is #SpiritDay, and millions of people are wearing purple to show their support for LGBTQ youth. Our LGBTQ Safe Zone stickers are another way to visibly show your solidarity year round--in your classroom, synagogue, or office. Link in bio.

Our hearts break yet again, and again, and again. Over the brutal murder and disfigurement of trans teen Ally Lee Steinfeld in September--the 21st murder of a transgender person in the U.S. this year, which we learned this weekend will not be prosecuted as a hate crime. Over the murder of 50 folks in Las Vegas this morning, and the hundreds more injured in this senseless act. Over the ongoing tragedy in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Our tradition teaches us that in times of sadness and in times of pain, we come together as a community. Together, we pray for an end to such needless hatred and destruction. And while we pray, prayer isn’t enough. We also must come together to act.

"At the end of Yom Kippur, the shofar will sound. A tekiah will go out. One long unified blast. The cry of the soul that connects each of us and the world...My prayer is that the vibrations that resonate within us spur us to step boldly, with broken hearts, courage, and humility into 5778." Keshet board member Rabbi Becky Silverstein shares hopes and prayers for Yom Kippur. Link in bio.
