Hi! I’m not sure if you’re taking requests but I saw you reblog those prompts and I was wondering if I could get
“Can we please kiss? I’ve been wanting to kiss you since we left that place.”
With Echo or a clone of your choice (whoever you think the prompt fits the best with). Obviously you don’t have to so please don’t feel pressured to do so. Thank you and have a good day and drink water it’s important
Thank you so much for the prompt!
I went with Hardcase, as I just felt it fit quite nicely!
I hope you like it!
Pairing: Hardcase x Jedi!Reader Word count: 3282 Rating: M (suggestiveness, tiny amount of blood, injury, peril, innuendo, angst, tongue kissing, pining)
“Well this is new!”
Hardcase was practically trembling with excitement as the stone wall in front of you slid into the floor, revealing an old, cobwebbed tunnel deeper into the ancient temple, his grin practically palpable under his helmet.
“Focus, Case,” you reminded him gently, igniting your lightsaber, the cool blue glow bouncing off the walls, illuminating the cracked stones that made up the floor, “we’re here to investigate, remember?”
“But this is like a real treasure hunt!” he laughed, adjusting his grip on his blaster, bouncing on his heels as he waited for you to take the lead, “It’s exciting!”
“More exciting than mowing down battalions of battle droids?” you teased softly, flushing when the trooper nodded. In all honesty, you’d been somewhat surprised when Hardcase had volunteered to accompany you on a recon mission, knowing he much preferred action.
“Huh,” he chuckled, “not quite, but the company is definitely better.”
“Are you flirting?” you asked a little incredulously, barely holding in a nervous giggle.
Out of all of the men you worked with on a regular basis, Hardcase had quickly become one of your favourites. While most saw only a hyperactive, battle-hungry clone trooper with a limited attention span, you’d come to know him as kind, surprisingly gentle, generous, brave and incredibly smart.
In fact, he had been the one to unlock the wall you’d just passed through, figuring out a pressure puzzle with little effort.
“I, uh… Am I allowed?” he asked nervously, a soft click sounding as he unclipped his helmet with his free hand, deftly clipping it onto his belt. The moment you saw his face again, your heart fluttered, cheeks flushing brightly.
Like all clones, he was extraordinarily handsome, but there was something about him that set him apart from his brothers, a youthful energy that permeated every cell of his being, made him look brighter than everyone else. That, and you loved his tattoos, often wondering how far down his body they went.
If they continued over his chest and stomach, what it would be like to trace your finger along the lines, how he would shudder under your touch…
“If you don’t want me to, I… I can stop?”
His offer drew you back to the present, blinking the fantasy away as you shook your head, hoping he couldn’t see how red your cheeks were in the dim light as you giggled again, not quite meeting his gaze.
“I don’t mind,” you murmured, “but just a warning, I give as good as I get.”
“Oh?” Hardcase raised an eyebrow, his grin firmly back in place. “Miss perfect little Jedi isn’t so perfect after all?”
“I never said that,” you teased with a wink, Hardcase’s gaze darkening a little, his pupils dilating, “I just don’t mind a hot guy paying me compliments is all.”
Another smirk crossed Hardcase’s lips, as he shifted a little closer, walking right next to you in the small space as you continued into the tunnel.
“You think I’m hot?”
Another bolt of nervousness shot through you, followed by the heat of embarrassment and something else…
You’d be lying if you said you hadn’t thought about him in that way, in the loneliness of your quarters, laying in your bunk in search of sleep. Of course your mind would wander… it was only natural.
Your silence seemed to be enough of an answer for Hardcase, his grin widening even more as he swept his hand over his head, pretending to sweep back hair.
“Hmm… hot enough for a Jedi, huh? Now there’s an accolade I can get behind.”
“Oh kriff you,” you mumbled, trying to hide your embarrassment.
“If you insist,” Hardcase retorted without missing a beat, chuckling at your reaction. “What happened to ‘giving as good as you get’, huh?”
You were about to respond when an odd looking stone slab in front of Hardcase’s path caught your attention, a gasp caught in your lungs as you tried to warn him, all too late as he placed his foot squarely on it, the floor immediately giving way.
“Hardcase!”
He let out a scream as he fell, your body instantly following him into the hole in the ground without hesitation. Reaching out with the Force, you felt him below you, tugging at the tendrils of energy, wrapping them around him, pulling him to a halt just above the ground.
Carefully, slowly, you lowered the both of you down, onto the pile of rubble created by the collapse, Hardcase reaching out to grab your arm immediately, his eyes wide.
“Are you okay? Are you hurt?” he questioned urgently, patting down your arms, checking your robes for any tears.
“I’m fine, I’m fine,” you reassured him breathlessly, noting a small gash on the top of his head, a trickle of blood oozing sluggishly from it. “Are you?”
He flinched as you dragged your fingertip just below the cut, exhaling deeply as you willed the Force to heal it, watching as the skin knitted together perfectly, all signs of the injury immediately gone.
“Wow… That was… Have you ever done that, like, during sex?”
The question caught you completely off guard, your eyes widening before you doubled over with laughter, tears springing to your eyes.
“Case, we’ve just fallen down a hole in an abandoned temple, almost died, and you’re asking me if I’ve ever used the Force during sex?”
Looking almost offended, he tilted his head to the side, frowning.
“Well… Have you?”
Rolling your eyes, you let out a huff of laughter, pulling your comm out of your pocket and flicking it open, trying not to laugh as a channel opened.
“Master Skywalker,” you smiled as Anakin answered the other end, his small holographic form flickering in the darkness, “just to let you know, we’ve run into some… issues. We’re working to find our way out of the temple, but it looks like the relic room is too dangerous to get to at the moment.”
“Roger that,” Anakin smiled, letting out a soft sigh, “should have known better than to think this would be easy. You guys need any help?”
You smiled at Hardcase, his gaze averting as he flushed a little, your own laughter barely contained.
“No, we should be fine, we’re just…”
“Mesh’la, look out!”
Before you could even answer Hardcase, he was barrelling into you, strong arms wrapping around your waist, plastoid digging into you through your clothing as he dived with you, just in time to stop your body being crushed by another set of falling bricks from above, dust clouds rising through the darkness.
Your comm slipped from your grasp, clattering to the ground and into pieces as the rocks tumbled from where they fell, crushing it thoroughly.
Once the shock had subsided, you felt gloves hands running over you again, a ringing in your ears slowly fading, Hardcase’s worried voice cutting through the static.
“Mesh’la? Are you okay? Maker, that was close. Hey, can you hear me? Did you hit your head? I tried to stop it, but…”
“Case,” you murmured, wincing as you moved to sit up, your back definitely bruised where you’d hit the floor, “I’m fine, really.”
Shooting you an unconvinced look, he wrapped an arm around your shoulders, the motion gentle and tentative, and one you were utterly grateful for as your leg gave out, pain racing up your leg from your ankle.
A cry of pain left you before you could stop it, Hardcase taking your entire weight easily as you fell back, catching you and lowering you down onto the ground, careful to avoid any rocks.
“Yeah, you’re not fine,” he huffed, “time to rest, tough girl.”
Letting out a whine, you glared at him through the darkness, panic suddenly rising through you.
“My lightsaber, I dropped it when I fell!”
Hardcase let out a soft laugh, earning him another glare as he cautiously released his hold on you, unclipping his helmet and sliding it back onto his head, turning on the navigation lights. You raised a hand to shield your eyes from the piercing light, lowering it once he turned away, murmuring a soft apology.
“I’ll find it,” he reassured you in a tone so gentle, it almost made you question if this was the same trooper you were joking with mere minutes ago, “but first, we’re gonna patch you up and get a fire going, okay?”
“Fire?” you spluttered, confused.
“Yes, fire. Hot thing that puts out heat, you know?”
“I know what a fire is, Case,” you frowned, earning you another soft laugh, the sound making your heart flutter.
You watched in the light from his helmet as he shifted his pack from his shoulders, laying it on the ground and pulling out a small metal box, his gloved fingers working deftly as he opened it up and pressed a few buttons, a flame flickering to life from the inside.
“There we go, that’ll settle in a moment,” he reassured you as he shuffled to your other side, placing the contained flame close enough to heat you but not close enough to be a danger. The warmth of it immediately seeped into your skin, a shiver running through you as Hardcase moved back to his pack, careful not to aim his lights at your face.
“Right. Ankle next,” he nodded to himself, pulling out a small medpack, your eyebrows raising.
“I always wondered what you kept in there,” you chuckled softly, the trooper catching himself before he looked up and blinded you with his lights again.
“Oh, this isn’t what I usually carry. Usually it’s more blasters, ammo packs, lube, condoms, sex toys, you know, combat stuff.”
“Har-de-har,” you deadpanned as he giggled, pulling out a roll of bandages and a small bacta pack.
“I’ll need you to lift your robes, m’lady,” he instructed, his grin evident even through his modulator,
“Without even buying me dinner first?” you gasped in faux dismay, grinning at him as Hardcase watched you roll the fabric up, then moving to do the same with your trouser leg.
“I can still do that when we get out of here, if you want,” he said plainly, his voice suddenly far too even, your heart fluttering.
“You don’t have any credits,” you smiled weakly, sadness striking your heart as Hardcase sighed and shrugged.
“Would still take you somewhere nice.”
It struck you that he suddenly wasn’t joking, that he actually meant it.
“Case,” you breathed as he tore open the bacta packet and smoothed it over your ankle, his touch tender and careful, unwinding the bandages next and pulling them tightly to your skin, using the adhesive edge to seal it once he was done.
“Better?” he asked, packing away the empty packets.
But your focus was no longer on your ankle, your throat tight as you swallowed, mind reeling.
“Case,” you called again, the trooper freezing where he was now crouched over his pack, reorganising it.
Heaving a sigh, he resigned himself to whatever came next, shoulders slumping as he stood up and turned back to you, switching off his lights as he did.
“Yeah?”
“C’mere,” you beckoned him closer, “come sit with me.”
The shake of his head betrayed his hesitation, another sigh leaving him.
“Gotta find your lightsaber,” he murmured, “I’ll…”
“Rina’s diner.”
You could almost imagine the shocked expression on his face as his head snapped round to look at you, simply staring.
“W-What?”
“Rina’s diner,” you repeated with a nervous smile. “They serve Clones and Jedi, part funded by the Republic. We don’t need credits to go out. We could… We could go there.”
The silence that followed your statement seemed to drag on forever, the crackling of the fire and Hardcase’s modulated breathing the only sounds around you until he reached up to his helmet once again, pulling it off with a soft ‘whoosh’.
“You’re… serious?” he mumbled, barely able to meet you gaze, the nervousness in his expression making your heart clench, “You’d… go out for dinner? With me?”
Nodding, you swallowed hard, pushing down your own nerves.
“When we get out of here, I’d love to, Case. You’re…”
You trailed off, lost for words as he bent down in front of you, one gloved hand moving to cup your face, his thumb brushing over his chin.
For a moment, he simply fixed you with an intense gaze, your heart fluttering almost violently in your chest, breathing ragged as he leaned in a little closer, his eyes flicking to your lips.
Your eyes slipped closed, a soft whimper leaving your lips as his breath ghosted across your skin, a shiver running through your entire body. Pursing your lips, you steeled yourself, only to have him press the tiniest peck at the edge of your mouth, his turned up in a shit-eating grin.
“What… What was that?” you questioned sharply as he pulled away, barely holding back giggles.
“You think I’m giving myself away on the first date?” he smirked, letting out a huff of fake annoyance, “I’m not a whore, mesh’la.”
“This isn’t a date, Case,” you reminded him sternly, glaring at him, your mouth tingling where his lips had brushed yours.
“To your knowledge,” he chuckled as he donned his helmet once more, turning around and reactivating his lights. Almost immediately, he stepped into the darkness, making a triumphant noise. Within moments, he returned to the fireside, removing his bucket once more and passing you your lightsaber, his expression a swirl of emotions. “Maybe I set all of this up just to get you alone? And I know we don’t exactly have candle light, but…”
“Case,” you sighed, shaking your head. He turned to look at you, eyes wide. “You… I thought… you were going to…”
You trailed off as embarrassment flooded you, tears pricking at your eyes. You felt so confused, so conflicted. The way you felt went against everything you’d been taught by the Jedi, and yet you were willing to take the risk. But his teasing hurt in a way you couldn’t explain, an ache in your chest that seemed to numb your limbs.
“Do you not… want to?”
Hardcase’s eyes went wide with realisation, his hands immediately seeking yours, thumbs stroking over fingers as he held them, swallowing hard before his eyes met yours once more, pained at seeing the tears there.
“No, no, mesh’la, I… I want… I… I’m… scared. I’ve never…”
He breathed out a frustrated sigh, frowning at himself.
“Look, I… I’m just a clone. I’m not… different. I’m just… I’m hyperactive, and annoying, and even my vode can’t stand me sometimes, and…”
“Hardcase. Shut up.”
He stared at you in shock, mouth slightly agape.
“You are none of those things,” you breathed, heart fluttering as he sat on the floor in front of you, swallowing hard. “You are brave, smart, kind and so, so funny. I treasure my time with you, I miss you when I’m not with you. You make me feel… seen. Understood. You treat me like a friend, not just a Commander, not just a Jedi. You’re so much more than you could ever know. I… I care about you. A lot. And I…”
You held your breath as he leant in closer, the nervousness in his gaze not lost on you.
“You what?” he prompted, eyes darting between yours and your lips again, his tongue darting out for a moment, his breath hitching.
“I…”
Your confidence faltered as his breath washed over your face again, another pleasant shiver running up your spine.
“Tell me, mesh’la,” he pleaded, desperation lacing his tone, “please.”
“Hardcase,” you breathed, his lips mere inches from yours now, your whole body trembling with anticipation, “I…”
A sudden light from above had you leaping apart, frustration and relief rushing over you in equal measure.
“Commander! Hardcase! Can you hear me?”
The familiar voice rang out above you as you looked up, shielding your eyes from the brightness that now flooded the collapsed area below the tunnel.
“Yeah, Rex, we hear you!” Hardcase called back, forcing a smile. “The Commander’s injured, but I’ve taken care of it. She’s stable.”
“Atta boy, Hardcase,” Rex chuckled, “hold tight. We’ll have you out in a minute.”
“Great,” the trooper grimaced, shooting once last look of longing down at you as cables began descending into the crevasse before he pulled his helmet on, moving to extinguish the flames in his survival pack. “Just great.”
*-*-*
Your trip to medbay had been a short one, checked over and okayed by Kix, given painkillers and sent on your way.
After your debrief, you headed for the mess, eyes searching for a familiar tattoo, trying to push down the disappointment you felt when Hardcase was no-where to be seen.
You wandered the halls of the Venator for a time, passing by the training rooms and common areas, greeting the troopers you passed, but still, there was no sign of him.
It wasn’t until you’d finally given up your search and returned to your private quarters that a familiar outline had caught your attention, Hardcase sat on one of the large window ledges that looked out into the blue glow of hyperspace. Dressed in only his blacks and lower armour, he seemed a little smaller, your heart constricting in your chest as you took him in, watching the play of blue light across his features, his eyes wide with wonder.
“Hey,” you called softly as you approached him, making him jump. Within moments, he was scrambling to his feet, gaze locked on you, his throat bobbing as he swallowed, “I’ve been looking everywhere for you!”
“You… You have?” he asked cautiously, eyes darting all over your face, almost avoiding your gaze. “I… I wanted to check in on you, make sure you were okay after…”
He trailed off, swallowing again as his eyes finally met yours, an unreadable expression on his face.
“Look, I… I wanted to apologise, for the tunnel, and I…”
He sighed, shaking his head, looking away for a moment.
“Case,” you began, stopping dead when he held a hand up, rolling his head back before fixing his gaze on yours again, letting out a frustrated groan.
“No, no, please, I need… I need to tell you. I… I like you, a lot. Like a lot, and… I’m an idiot,” he sighed, clenching his jaw. “I… Just… Can we please kiss? I’ve been wanting to kiss you since we left that place. Well, since before, actually, but I… I didn’t know how to… and I…”
You cut him off as you crashed your lips into his, the sensation sending pleasant bolts of arousal and relief through your entire body, your arms moving up to wrap around his shoulders as his smoothed up your back, pulling you against him.
The feeling was utterly divine, his lips so soft and pliant as your tongues began to dance together, a groan torn from his throat.
“H-Holy kriff,” he breathed as you finally parted, his eyes blown wide, breath coming in pants as you stood, simply holding each other, his forehead coming to rest against yours. “Can we… can we do it again? That was…”
“Get inside,” you ordered as you pulled him towards the door to your quarters, his mouth seeking yours once again as your stumbled backwards, searching for your keycard, licking into his mouth while you fell against the durasteel, his hips rocking against yours, desperation taking over him.
“Yes, Commander,” he grinned, yelping as he fell backwards through the door, your body crashing down on top of him, both giggling wildly as you slammed the door shut behind you, locking yourselves away from the rest of the world.

Pairing: Rex x Jedi!ofc
Word count: 6.4k Tags/Warnings: childhood trauma; family drama; angst; in true TCW fashion, I decided to add some telenovela vibes this chapter; I have spent an unreasonable amount of time creating Lexie's backstory so I’m just gonna include everything I have; Fives being a little shit part 7?; Echo is once again pure and innocent; last instalment of Rex being insecure; I couldn't resist doing a "the view is beautiful/it really is" scene, I am extremely corny tbh
A/n: Finally found the time to make a cover yay. Took me long enough, I know
Previous chapter | Next chapter
cyare - beloved vod'ika - little brother/sister vode - brothers osik - shit, crap shabuir - extreme insult - *jerk*, but much stronger ner kar’ta - my heart; I'm using it more as 'my love'

“You were right, vod’ika”, Echo remarked, coming to stand next to her in the door opening of the LAATi. “The mountains here really are beautiful”.
Lexie could only nod in agreement, her heartrate getting faster and faster the closer they got to New Irin, the capital city. It felt surreal being back home, flying over the bright red Secca woodlands, the granite mountains towering all around. She really had abandoned all hope that she would one day return here. Rex was stood right behind her, holding on to one of the handrails and watching her reactions and body language closely. The others didn’t seem to notice exactly how distressed Lexie was in that moment, but he did, since he knew the most about her past.
Lexie and Anakin had decided to bring a squad with them to the surface, among which were her friends. She was really grateful for it, and of Anakin and Ahsoka being there too, but most of all she was glad that Rex was there, his presence in the Force always felt so safe and comforting. At one point, as the gunship encountered some turbulence, she allowed herself to stumble backwards, just so that she could bump into him and feel his hand on her waist as he steadied her. It was a small gesture and only lasted a couple seconds, but his tight grip had the desired effect, calming her, grounding her in the present.
The LAATi reached the valley where New Irin was located, and Lexie felt tears gather in the corners of her eyes as she glimpsed the familiar light-pink, granite buildings, and in the distance, on top of the highest hill in the area, the Royal Palace. She closed her eyes and focused on her breathing until she felt the gunship touch down on the landing platform.
A choked laugh escaped her lips as she opened her eyes and saw the Chagrian man waiting to welcome her. He looked much older, the lines on the orange skin of his face more prominent, but his eyes held the same warmth that she remembered from when she was a child. Madar, the chief household administrator, the man who would escort her back to her quarters after catching her and Myria stealing sweets from the kitchen in the middle of the night, but who would never alert her mother of her shenanigans. The man who always had kind words for her and who never looked at her with apprehension like some of the other palace workers did after her Force-sensitivity became known. She stepped off the gunship and hurriedly walked the short distance towards him.
“Madar”, she beamed, a wide grin on her face.
“Your Highness, it is my greatest honour to welcome you back home”, the Chagrian said, placing his right fist over his heart and bowing his head. The gesture was mirrored by the ten royal guards that were stood behind him, on the either side of the platform.
“Did he just say ‘your highness’?”, Jesse quietly asked after stepping off the gunship, leaning closer to Fives and Kix. The surprise in his voice was felt by all of them.
Anakin and Ahsoka walked towards Lexie, both with similar confused expressions on their faces.
“You, uhh, you’re getting quite the welcome here, Lexie”, Anakin said.
“Is that how you address her?”, Madar asked, visibly offended.
“I, uhh…”, Anakin started.
“Madar, it’s alright”, she tried to intervene.
“No, Your Highness, that is not proper”, he continued with indignation before his gaze moved back to Anakin. “This is princess Alexis Alia’Khalla, and you should show her the resp-”
“Madar”, Lexie said in an authoritative voice, “I said it’s alright. This is Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker; we both have the same rank within the Order, things like that don’t matter there”.
He looked at her, eyes full of confliction, not pleased with the lack of etiquette. “Of course, Your Highness. Apologies”, the Chagrian bowed his head.
“Did you know about this?”, Echo quietly asked Rex and the others turned their heads to hear his answer. The Captain simply nodded.
Lexie could hear the whispers between the men behind her and she could feel it through the Force, the confusion and surprise they were all feeling.
“Give me a second, will you?”, she asked before turning to face the group.
Anakin was looking at her with an amused smirk on his lips, while Ahsoka’s eyes were wide with surprise and, much to her annoyance, Fives’ head was cocked to the side, which meant that a shit-eating grin was most likely plastered on his face under the helmet. She looked up at the sky and took a deep breath in before lowering her gaze once more. Let’s get this over with.
“My mother was the late Queen Axanna. That makes me the former crown princess of Seccaya. Any questions?”, she said dryly, crossing her arms over her chest.
“Do we still salute you or do we need to learn how to curtsy?”, Fives did not waste a second to tease her. Jesse and Hardcase, as well as Anakin started laughing, and even Kix was quietly snickering.
“Funny”, she jeered, making a face at the ARC. “Any actual questions?”.
Echo raised his hand and she gestured for him to speak. “Do we still address you as ‘sir’ or do we need to use ‘your highness’?”.
“Really Echo? I expected this osik from Fives or Jesse or Hardcase, but you too?”, she snarled.
“N-No, it-it’s a genuine question, the reg manuals have different guidelines for addressing royalty…”, he defended.
Lexie took a few steps until she was stood right in front of him, glaring at the black visor of his helmet. “Have I been demoted in the last 10 minutes and someone forgot to tell me?”, she asked sarcastically.
“N-No?”, Echo replied, a little embarrassed.
“Then what do you think, Echo?”. The others started laughing again.
“I… I’m sorry, Sir. It was a stupid question”, he answered, straightening at attention.
“Any serious questions?”, she asked again, looking at the other men. “No? Great. Let’s go then. We wouldn’t want to keep Queen Moira waiting”, she said sardonically as she turned around.
“Oh. My apologies, Your Highness, I thought you knew. Queen Moira has passed away three months ago. It is Queen Anara that requested your presence”, the Chagrian informed her.
Lexie froze in place, her eyebrows shooting up. Her aunt was… dead. The woman who had orchestrated the coup, who was responsible for her mother’s death, who had chased her off her own planet, was dead. And she had no idea how to react. She felt like laughing, but that would be inappropriate, although understandable considering everything. She also felt disappointed because as much as she was dreading facing her, she did have a few choice of words she wanted to say to her aunt. But she also felt sad for her cousins since she knew the pain they must be feeling. Maker, if only she could hold Rex’s hand right about now.
“I… I did not know that. How, uhh, how did she die?”, she asked, looking at Madar.
“Her late Majesty was ill for quite some time”, he answered solemnly.
“Right… that’s…”, she trailed off. Lexie cleared her throat before bringing her hand up to her chest. “Let’s not keep Anara waiting then”.
Rex was just a little bit behind her and watched the exchange with growing concern. With everything that she’d told him, and with everything that he’d just learnt, he knew that Lexie must be feeling very conflicted right now. He knew her tells, he knew from the way she was rubbing slow circles on her sternum that she was distressed. But there was nothing he could do but follow behind her through the palace corridors and offer small nods the few times she looked back towards him. The other troopers had been escorted to the guards’ quarters, but Lexie had asked that the Captain accompany them. She needed him close to her.
It was strange. It didn’t feel like home anymore, but, at the same time, it did. It felt like one of those dreams where your brain tells you that you are in a certain place, but the scenery around you is something else entirely. She recognised the paintings on the walls, she knew what each room behind every closed door was, she remembered the damn burgundy carpet she was walking on, yet still, everything felt so foreign.
“So”, Anakin started from her side. “A princess”.
“Mhm”, Lexie hummed in agreement.
“You’d think something like that would come up in conversation”, he mused, brows slightly furrowed.
“Not when you’re trying to keep a low profile”, she responded dryly. “I wasn’t exactly certain that my aunt wouldn’t send someone after me”.
“You still could’ve told me”, Anakin continued. “I would’ve kept the secret”.
“I just wanted to leave it in the past. Don’t take it personally, I never told anyone”, she explained.
“So nobody knew?”, he asked.
“My master and the Council knew. But that’s it. I’ve only just given Rex a heads up before we came out of hyperspace”, she said quietly.
Anakin briefly looked behind towards the Captain; that explained the conflicted feelings he had sensed around him while on the gunship.
“It just wasn’t something I wanted to think about, let alone talk about”, Lexie continued, looking from her friend to his Padawan. Ahsoka was quiet, listening and nodding and Lexie felt grateful the young girl really did seem to understand. Her eyes moved back to Anakin and she sighed a breath of relief when the slight frown on his face finally disappeared.
Anxiety gripped her chest again as they reached the throne room and Lexie began to feel nauseated. She really wished she could just turn around and walk away, but that wasn’t an option. Not for her as a Jedi and not for her as a princess. She still understood all too well the rules she had to play by and she cursed them in her mind. The tall door slid open and she walked inside. The room was large, with a high ceiling and a skylight which allowed the warm sun to brighten the interior. It looked exactly as it did when her mother used to sit on the throne, and for just a fraction of a second Lexie actually expected to see her.
But her eyes then immediately landed on Anara. Her cousin. The Queen. She looked almost the same as she remembered her, with light brown hair tied in an intricate side braid, wearing red and burgundy, the royal colours, her posture straight as she sat on the throne. Her eyes were different however, still the same hazel, but the look she saw in them, it was almost sad, uncertain, anxious. A mess of emotions were fighting inside of Lexie, anger and pain, relief, happiness… love. She could barely make sense of her thoughts.
Madar announced her entrance and then formally introduced her fellow Jedi. Anakin and Ahsoka bowed their heads in respect, but Lexie stood tall, crossing her arms over her chest and staring the woman down. Just be calm.
“Anara”, she spoke more coldly than intended.
“Alexis”, the Queen responded. “Did you forget etiquette since you've been away?”.
“Do you mean since I was chased off the planet?”, Lexie corrected bitterly.
“Don’t be like that”, Anara pleaded.
Lexie let out a scornful laugh. She felt like a youngling getting scolded. “Why am I here, Anara?”.
“So we can make things right. It’s time Seccaya joined the Republic, and it’s time you were welcomed back home”, she replied in a forced calm voice.
“Alright, let’s sign that treaty then, so I can be on my way”, Lexie responded.
“Not so fast…”, Anara said, her voice suddenly strained and she seemed a little unsure of herself. “Myria is getting married in two rotations and-”
“Are you kidding me?”, Lexie interrupted, anger bubbling up inside of her. “Please tell me you did not drag me all the way here for a wedding. Anara, there is a war going on. I am a general!”, she raised her voice.
“I dragged you here so you could attend a diplomatic event that would signify Seccaya joining the Republic. With you at the wedding, it would send a message-”, the Queen tried to respond, her irritation growing as well.
“A message? So that’s what it’s about. I attend the wedding and show people that I support you, is that it?”, Lexie scoffed. The bitterness and anger she was feeling towards her aunt seemed to have won the battle in her mind and were now being directed at her cousin.
“No, that’s… yes, it would show everyone that you don’t plan to challenge my rule, but that’s not why-”.
“Unbelievable”, Lexie laughed bitterly.
“Alexis, let me speak”, Anara pleaded, getting up from her throne. “Seccaya is divided. And with the war going on that cannot happen. We need to show the people that we are a united front. That we can put the past behind and focus on a future in the Republic”.
“Put the past behind us? You really expect that after everything you’ve-”
“Me? I was a kid too, Alexis. I was just a kid”, Anara retorted, pain clear in her voice.
Lexie felt as if she had been punched in the gut and looked at her cousin with wide eyes. She knew Anara was right but she could not get her anger under control.
“Let’s all take a breath”, Anakin intervened. “Lexie, a word?”.
The two Jedi walked back towards the door. Lexie glanced at Rex as she passed him, knowing that his eyes were on her. She could sense his concern and a pang of guilt stirred in her stomach. She was letting him down, she was letting everyone down.
“I am not trying to lecture you, Lexie, but you are letting your emotions cloud your judgement”, Anakin spoke to her in a low voice.
“Do you know what ‘the past’ she wants me to just put behind is?”, Lexie retorted in an angry whisper.
“Yes, I’ve pieced things together. But what exactly is your plan here? Challenge her? Get the crown? Because you know the Order and the GAR cannot interfere in that-”
“I don’t want the damn crown. But I want justice. I deserve justice”, she said through gritted teeth.
“What does justice look like, Master?”, Ahsoka asked, having walked to Anakin’s side.
Lexie rubbed her temples with one hand, taking in a deep breath. What does it look like?
“I… I don’t know”, she admitted quietly.
“You should try to figure that out”, Anakin stated, before he walked back to the center of the room. “Your Majesty, you requested our presence here in order to sign a treaty. Do you actually plan to do so?”, he addressed the Queen.
“I requested my cousin’s presence, Master Jedi”, Anara corrected. “But to answer your question, I do plan to sign it. After Alexis attends my sister’s wedding”, she informed, looking towards Lexie who was still stood at the back of the room, lost in all the conflicting emotions she was feeling.
“Master Khalla?”, Ahsoka got her attention, placing a hand on her arm.
“I will consider it and get back to you”, Lexie said loudly, before turning and walking out of the throne room.
“Go after her”, Anakin told Rex.
Lexie paused right outside the door for a few seconds before realising she knew exactly where she wanted to go. She started walking down a corridor, vaguely aware that Rex had also left the throne room and was quietly walking behind her. She didn’t stop however, she continued ahead, then up a staircase and down another corridor, until she arrived at a wide balcony. Best view from the palace. She stepped outside, holding the coloured transparisteel door open for the Captain to follow her, then walked to the granite balustrade.
Rex took off his helmet, placed it on the ground, then leaned against the railing next to her, looking at the scenery in front of him. The entire valley was visible, with all the small, stone building of New Irin and the wide river cutting through the middle of the city. All around he could see the mountains, some of the taller peaks covered in snow. It was actually peaceful. He turned his head to look at Lexie and noticed the tears silently rolling down her cheeks. He gently brought her in his arms, holding her tightly against him. Lexie wrapped her arms around him and allowed herself to cry.
“I’m here. What do you need?”, he softly asked.
“I… I don’t know… j-just hold me?”, she replied with chocked sobs.
“I’m here, I got you”, he reassured her, running his fingers through her hair, careful not to unravel her braid
Lexie stayed like that, quietly crying and shaking in his arms. It was too much; the entire day had been all too much. But she somehow had to make a decision, and soon. Could she put the past behind her? Could she forgive Anara? Was there even anything to forgive? Her cousin was right, she too was just a kid when the coup happened, Lexie knew it was unfair to place the blame on her. And yet she still couldn’t shake the anger she felt at that request.
At least Rex was there and his strong arms around her felt like a lifeline keeping her from sinking further down into her pain and anger. Once the tears stopped falling, Lexie slowly pulled away from the Captain’s embrace and wiped her face. “Thanks”, she mumbled.
“Are you feeling any better?”, Rex asked, concern still present in his voice and one of his hands still resting on her arm.
“Yeah. I’m just… ugh this is so kriffed up. I’m not sure what exactly I even expected but… I don’t know, hearing what everything is actually about… it just made me really angry”, she tried to explain.
“You really think that it’s just about politics?”, Rex asked. “Because, cyare, you know I am on your side, but you didn’t exactly let her speak”.
Lexie looked at him in disbelief, anger stirring inside of her again.
“She was anxious when she brought the wedding up. I noticed it. Did you not sense it?”, Rex continued, rubbing small circles with his thumb on her arm. “It felt like more than a political stunt”.
“I… I did notice”, she admitted.
“I don’t know the politics of this planet very well but I remember reading that a lot of people were opposed to the coup-”
“Yeah, there were a couple of years of unrest”, Lexie interjected.
“Wouldn’t your aunt’s death bring all that back up? With some people calling for you to take the throne, while others supported your cousin?”, Rex asked. “The Seppies could take advantage of that”.
Her anger deflated as she considered his words. “It’s really annoying when you use logic and reason against me”, she quipped, rolling her eyes.
The Captain huffed a small laugh.
“Lexie”, he quietly said, “do you want to challenge her? Take back the crown?”.
“No”, she shook her head, without needing any time to think about it. She had considered it over the years and had come to terms with everything a long time ago. “I’ve been living a completely different life for the past 14 years, I couldn’t even imagine myself as queen anymore. Anara has been preparing for this during that time. And she was always kind, you know? I have good memories of her”.
Rex exhaled deeply as he heard her answer, a tentative smile curling his lips. He had not realised how worried he was about the possibility that she'd want the throne, that she'd stay on Seccaya and that their little love affair would simply be over.
“Then?”, he prompted, trying to push all those feelings aside.
“It’s still just… it’s not right, what happened”, Lexie said quietly. “I don’t know how to just put it behind me”.
“I know, cyare”, Rex agreed, his hand briefly cupping her cheek. “I’m sorry you had to go through that”.
“Thank you”, she whispered.
Rex pulled his hand away and looked around. They were in the open after all, they had to be more careful. Lexie leaned against the railing again, looking at New Irin.
“You know I’ve never really seen the city? I accompanied my mother to a few places, but I was a kid, I couldn’t just wander around”, she remarked after a few moments lost in her thoughts.
“What are you suggesting, princess?”, Rex asked teasingly.
Lexie’s head snapped back to him and she let out a laugh. “So that’s definitely going to stick now?”.
“Absolutely”, Rex replied with his half-smile.
Lexie shook her head and chuckled, leaning into his side, her arm firmly placed against the plastoid of his armor.
“Maybe we could go explore the city, later today or tomorrow”, she mused.
“That sounds nice”, Rex agreed.
A silence settled over them as they watched the sun slowly sink behind the tall mountains on the horizon, the sky turning a light pink.
“I’ve missed this place”, Lexie sighed wistfully. “The view from here is so beautiful”.
“It really is”, Rex said quietly, his head turned towards her.
Lexie met his gaze and started laughing. “You are so corny”.
“You love it”, he noted, nudging her with his elbow.
“Yeah, I do love it”, she chuckled.
Something about that little exchange made Rex’s mood suddenly change, anxiety clouding his mind. She really was so beautiful and so special to him. He loved her. But realisation abruptly hit him that this was her home, and not just this planet, but the palace they were in. She was royalty. By any account she should not even look his way. Lexie sensed his shifting emotions and looked at him with furrowed brows.
“What is wrong?”, she asked.
“It’s nothing cyare”, he tried to lie.
“Rex, talk to me”, she pleaded, placing a hand over his.
“I just…”, he hesitated. “I guess it just suddenly became real. You, uhh… you really are a princess”.
“Is it really that weird?”, she asked, turning to face him.
“No, it's just...”, he shook his head. “Why are you with me?”, Rex decided to bluntly ask.
“What?”.
“I don't understand. You're a princess, and a Jedi, and I'm just... I'm just a clone. Why would you be with me?”, the Captain explained.
“You are not just a clone. Do not say that!”, she dismissed forcefully.
“Lexi-”
“No”, she interrupted him. “You are a clone, yes. But you are not ‘just’ anything! Rex, you are an amazing person, you are smart and brave and kind. You are everything I aspire to be. Honestly you are a way better person than I am”.
“Cyare-”, he tried to protest.
“No, it's true”.
“It's not”, Rex insisted in a determined tone of voice.
“Okay, fine, but I am not better than you in any way. Please believe that. I am so, so lucky to have you. Honestly. You bring light into my life”, Lexie admitted, taking both his hands in hers.
“You really mean that?”, he gently squeezed her hands.
“I do. I... I really care about you… ner kar’ta”, Lexie said, voice more timid that she wanted.
Rex’s eyes lit up at her use of Mando’a and a bright smile appeared on his face. Lexie loved it so much when he smiled like that, he looked so young, so carefree. A smile of her own tugged at the corners of her lips and she could feel the blush on her cheeks. She had been a little worried she would mess that up, but from his reaction, it seemed she had pronounced it correctly.
“Cyare-”, the Captain started, but was interrupted by the sound of the balcony door opening.
They both automatically let go of each other’s hands and took a step back.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt”, a nervous voice sounded.
Rex looked at the young woman that had stepped through the door. She looked like a younger version of the Queen, with light brown hair, tied in two braided buns, and hazel eyes, but Rex could also see the resemblance to Lexie, their facial features very similar. The two women could easily be sisters. His eyes moved back to Lexie, who was frozen in place, eyes wide and on the verge of tears.
“Myria”, she whispered.
“Hi, Lexie”, the young woman replied, looking close to tears herself.
A chocked laugh escaped her lips, as Lexie quickly walked to her cousin and hugged her tightly, a gesture reciprocated.
“I’ve missed you”, Myria said. “I’m sorry I wasn’t here earlier, I was at an event all the way across the city, I came as soon as I heard you’d arrived”, she hurriedly explained.
“It’s fine, it-it’s so good to see you”, Lexie said, breaking form the hug.
Myria glanced towards Rex then back at Lexie, a questioning look in her eyes.
“Right, sorry. This is my Rex-uhh captain, my captain-”, she stopped her flustered blunder and cleared her throat. “This is Captain Rex from my battalion. That’s… uhh… that’s what I meant to say”.
“I think you said it correctly the first time”, Myria remarked in an amused tone of voice.
Both the Captain and Lexie blushed. “I’ll… uhh… I’ll let you two catch up”, Rex took a few stepts towards the door. “General. Your Highness”, he nodded to the two women before stepping back inside.
“Captain”, Lexie stopped him and he turned in the doorway. “Your helmet”, she said, walking to the balustrade and picking it up from the floor. She tossed it to him, chuckling to herself at the embarrassment she sensed around his Force signature and he mumbled some thanks before quickly putting his helmet on and taking his leave. Once his face was safely obscured and he was walking away, Rex smiled to himself. He actually enjoyed hearing Lexie say that he was hers.
“Oh, he’s cute. Do they all look like that?”, Myria asked.
“Aren’t you getting married?”, Lexie laughed.
“Just an observation”, Myria replied with a chuckle. Her body language then stiffened and Lexie could sense the shift in her demeanour. “I’m glad your brought that up actually. I, uhh… Anara said your conversation didn’t go well earlier…”.
“Uhm yeah, I didn’t handle that very well”, Lexie admitted sheepishly.
“You have every right to be angry, Lexie. Hell, I-I’m still angry at what my mother did, but please believe me, Anara was just nervous about seeing you again and-”, Myria said, getting flustered.
“Myria”, she stopped her. “I shouldn’t have reacted like that. It’s not Anara’s fault, nor yours, I shouldn’t have taken my anger out on her”.
“It was my idea actually”, she spoke quietly.
“What was?”.
“Asking you to come to the wedding. I want you there, I really, really do. But it-it also happens to solve some of our problems, so I thought it would be a win-win. There are… there are a few movements that have sprung up in the past few months, calling for the crown to go back to the true heir-”.
Lexie huffed out a laugh. “Sorry, this… this all just sounds so kriffing absurd. I haven’t really thought about anything like that in so long”, she explained.
Myria chuckled as well, although it was clear that she was still feeling uncertain. “Yeah… I guess you had other things to focus on”, her eyes scanned Lexie’s Jedi robes and at the lightsabers hanging from her belt. “So… what will you do?”.
“I’ll do what’s best for Seccaya, of course. And that is getting that treaty signed”, she stated.
“So you won’t challenge Anara?”.
“No. But I want an apology”, Lexie declared, her voice slightly shaking. “I want a public apology for what I had to go through… and for my… for my mother”.
“That won’t be a problem”, Myria assured her. “I guess you haven’t stayed informed with everything going on here. W-We always knew it was wrong, what our mother did… we knew it was wrong and it caused an irreparable rift between us… Anara didn’t have much of a choice, but I left as soon as I could, I’ve been studying at the University of Alderaan for the past 5 years. I only came back for the funeral. Lexie, I’m getting married only 3 months after, you should know what an insolent gesture that is. Do you not remember the lamentation rules?”.
“I… I guess I didn’t think much about it”, she admitted. She looked towards the valley, noting the bright lights shining on the taller, historical buildings and in the public squares; it really didn’t look like a city in mourning.
“We want to make amends. Both of us”, Myria insisted, taking hold of her hand. “So, please, come to the wedding”.
“Of course I’ll come, Myria”, Lexie replied with a small smile.
“And you’ll walk behind me? Next to Anara?”, her cousin asked.
“I thought Anara would be your guide”, she remarked, her voice laced with curiosity.
“She doesn’t know Helmut that well. One of our friends from university is going to do it, he introduced us, so it makes sense. I kinda… I wish I could’ve asked you but-”.
“But I don’t know him at all”, Lexie interjected, a wistful smile on her lips. “Tell me about him? And about you, what you’ve been doing. I’ve missed so much…”.
“Do you want to go back inside? I want to tell you everything, and also to hear everything about you. And I know that Anara would also like that”, Myria said nervously.
Lexie took a deep breath before agreeing. Make amends – that really does sound nice. She followed Myria to Anara’s quarters, where Lexie apologised for her behaviour earlier that day. The atmosphere was still a little tense but the three women spent the next couple of hours talking, getting to know each other again. It was bittersweet and some of the events they had to talk about were difficult to approach, but this time Lexie managed to keep her mind calm, to listen, and to understand how hard it had been for her cousins too. It was a good start and Lexie allowed herself to feel emotions that have been buried deep inside of her for years.
After the conversation with her cousins, once they had to turn in for the night, Lexie decided to go talk to her friends for a bit. She wouldn’t be able to sleep yet anyway, she always struggled with hyper-lag when travelling between planets.
It still felt weird wondering the palace halls, knowing exactly where she had to go and what turns to take. After all these years she still knew the place like the back of her hand. She made her way to the west wing, where all the palace workers had their quarters, and down a corridor until she reached the guards’ rooms. Muffled voices and laughter let her know that the men were still awake, which she had expected.
As soon as she walked in, Fives jumped up from the bunk he was laying on and bowed in an exaggerated manner. “Your Highness”, he said, shit-eating grin plastered on his face.
“Shabuir”, Lexie mumbled, yet was unable to keep a smile from tugging at her lips. Her eyes locked with Rex’s, who was sat on a bunk farthest away from her, and who was doing a poor job at trying not to appear amused by his brother’s antics.
“Is that the kind of language a princess should use?”, Jesse piped in, bringing a hand up to his chest in fake shock and causing the others to start laughing.
“Don’t push it”, Lexie warned with a chuckle, crossing her arms over her chest. “Anyone else got something to add? Get it out of your system?”, she said, looking at Kix and Hardcase. The two shook their heads with a chuckle. “Good. Sitrep, Captain?”, she asked in a more serious tone.
“I spoke to Appo earlier. No threats detected on the long-range scanners. Sector’s still clear, General”, Rex replied matter-of-factly.
“Let’s hope it stays that way”, she replied before she sat down on one of the bunks, next to Echo. Lexie then turned her head to look at him. “Sorry I was a bit too harsh earlier. I thought you were making fun of me as well”, she said quietly.
“It’s alright vod’ika. I did ask right after Fives’ bad joke”, Echo said with a small chuckle.
“Hey! That joke was really good”, Fives defended. Lexie rolled her eyes but did not protest.
“So are you still gonna be our general, Lex?”, Hardcase asked.
“Why wouldn’t I be?”, Lexie looked at him confused.
“We heard some of the royal guards talking about it earlier. People are apparently expecting you to take back the throne”, Kix explained.
“Oh. I guess people are going to be disappointed then. I’m only here to get that treaty signed… and for a wedding apparently”, she chuckled.
“At least you’ll have some fun”, Hardcase said.
“We’ll all have some fun actually. You’re invited to the party, just checked with Myria earlier. Hope you have your dress uniforms with you”, she informed them with a smile. The men seemed quite excited about that.
“So what’s the plan for the next two days?”, Echo asked.
“Well, assuming the Seppies don’t attack, this is a pretty relaxed mission. Anakin, Ahsoka and I have to attend an official dinner tomorrow evening, and I will be spending some time with Myria in the afternoon, but besides that there isn’t really anything scheduled. I want to go explore the city tomorrow, you guys can come with if you’d like”, she offered.
“What about for the wedding day?”, Fives asked with a grin. “When do we party?”.
“That day is gonna be bit more chaotic. There’s quite a few traditions that need to be followed before the ceremony. Then the ceremony itself takes place in the mountains-”.
“Is it that whole thing with walking through water?”, Echo interjected. “I was reading about it earlier”.
“Yeah it is. People here worship nature, and water, as the source of life, it’s viewed as the most important. So for a marriage ceremony, the betrothed couple is led through a river by a guide, until they reach the cave where the river springs from and they get married by a high priestess. It’s meant to symbolise the couple’s commitment to walking together through life. I think it’s really cute, it’s always been one of my favourite traditions from this planet”, Lexie explained, her eye lighting up. She was actually so excited she would get to attend her cousin’s wedding. She’d missed her home and all its customs.
Rex listened intently, hanging on her every word and, before he knew it was happening, his mind started imagining the two of them walking through the river, promising to spend their life by each other’s side. He flinched as he caught himself, it was way too soon to be thinking of these things, he’d probably scare her away if he said any of it out loud. The Captain realised he’d been staring at Lexie for too long and averted his gaze, and almost let out an exasperated groan as he made eye contact with Fives and noticed the knowing smirk on the ARC’s face. It was almost like his vod’ika had the annoying ability to read his mind.
Lexie told them a bit more about some other traditions and celebrations she’d missed in the past 14 years. Echo kept asking questions about the things he’d read about Seccaya and she happily responded to all of them. It was nice being able to talk about her home without feeling that deep pain she usually did. Of course her past still hurt, but she was home, she was actually home, something she hadn’t even allowed herself to dream of since she was just a kid. It felt like she could finally breathe again.
“I should probably go to bed”, she stated after realising she’d been in that room just talking to her friends for over an hour. “I’ll see you all tomorrow”.
“I’ll walk you back to your room General”, Rex offered, getting up from the bunk.
He ignored the looks his vode exchanged and followed Lexie out the door. They were silent for a while, their fingers gently brushing against each other as they walked side by side.
“I, uhh…”, Lexie started, a bit unsure of herself. “There’s a place I need to go to in the morning… would you come with me?”.
“Of course, cyare”, he responded. “What is it?”.
“You’ll see tomorrow”, she said quietly.
“Alright”, he hooked his pinkie around hers and Lexie looked up at him and smiled.
They continued walking silently until they reached her room and she stopped, leaning against the doorframe.
“I’d ask you to come in, but…”, she started.
“I should head back before they get suspicious”, Rex finished her thought.
“It might be too late for that. Did you see that look Kix gave Jesse as we left?”, she shook her head with a chuckle.
“Let’s hope it’s still just because they think I have a crush on you”, he replied with his own amused huff.
“Aww, you have a crush on me?”, she teased, making him roll his eyes.
Rex looked around, making sure the corridor was empty, before leaning in and capturing Lexie’s lips in a gentle kiss. He missed the taste of her lips, the feel of her arms around his neck, just being this close to her. He didn’t want to let go but he eventually had to break away. They were too in the open and he really did have to return to his brothers before too much time would pass.
“Good night, Captain”, Lexie whispered, softly caressing his check for a brief moment.
“Good night, princess”, Rex replied with his half-smile.
Lexie huffed a small laugh and watched as he disappeared down the corridor before entering her room and jumping into bed.

“I appreciate you coming with me, by the way, Tech. Herbalism isn’t for everyone.” You chuckle as you bend down to inspect some nearby plants, using a scanner to check their properties.
After some members of your group had fallen ill, you asked Tech, quite reluctantly, to accompany you in finding a remedy. With credits scarce, medicine wasn't readily available to any of you.
“I do believe our best choice is to go to Felucia and seek out some Nysillin,” he says, looking around as he follows you. “But you are welcome.”
“We don’t have the time to go all the way to Felucia,” you sigh. While you partly agreed with him, it would take at least three rotations to get there from your current location, and none of you knew if the illness would spread or worsen in the meantime.
You stand up, and the two of you continue walking through the dense foliage, the air humid and slightly sticky. “If you see any flowers, point them out to me.”
Tech adjusts his goggles, scanning the area meticulously. “Understood. Though I must point out that identifying medicinal plants without a proper botanical reference could be inefficient.”
“I know, but we have to try something,” you reply, keeping an eye out for any potential remedies.
Your reluctance to Tech coming with you was simply from a place of feeling, precisely, your feelings for him. He made you both nervous and giddy but you knew nothing would ever come from it. So, instead you just relished in the time alone with him.
A few minutes later, Tech halts, his attention fixed on a cluster of vibrant orchids nestled among the greenery. “There,” he points, “those orchids might have some medicinal properties.”
You walk over to the orchids, marveling at their beauty. “Good eye, Tech. These could be promising.” You carefully gather a few specimens, making sure not to damage the stems and petals. Tech goes ahead and takes your scanner, beginning to analyse their chemical composition.
You crouch down beside him, looking at the scanner, curiosity piqued. “Can you tell me anything about them?”
“It states here that orchids have been known to possess a variety of medicinal compounds. With any luck, these might help mitigate the symptoms the others are experiencing,” he explains. Truthfully, some of his words go in one ear and out the other because you can't help but quietly admire him.
He turns his gaze to you, his eyes curious. “Do you believe these orchids will suffice?”
You snap out of your reverie, clearing your throat and looking down at the pile of scattered petals. “O-Oh, of course,” you say swiftly, helping Tech gather some into his backpack carefully.
You look back at the orchids, the soft mix of pink and purple flowers filling your senses. “These are so beautiful. Seems a shame to pick them.”
Tech looks at the flower and thinks for a moment. “I suppose they are nice on the eyes, yes.”
The next few moments feel like a dream as you watch Tech pluck a small strand from the bush. Your skin grows warm as he takes a hold of your chin with his thumb and index finger, turning your head towards him. Breath catching in your throat, you watch as he brushes your hair behind your ear and tucks an orchid into it. “I hope this will suffice,” he says softly.
You blink at him, taken aback. Where had that come from? Had he hit his head? Your silence lingers, and Tech suddenly realises his gesture was nothing short of flirtatious. “We,” his voice squeaks adorably, and he quickly clears his throat, “we should head back to the ship.”
You nod, still processing what just happened. “Yes, of course.”
As you walk back to the ship, the orchid in your hair has you recalling back to Tech did. His gentle words, his lingering touch on your skin… it was lovely. Tech walks beside you this time rather than behind, his usual composed demeanor slightly rattled, and you can’t help but smile at the thought of the brilliant, logical man having a tender, spontaneous side. Just for you.
You steal a glance at Tech, and your eyes lock. He looks slightly flustered, the tips of his ears turning a deep shade of red. As the Marauder comes into sight, you decide to take a gamble and stop. “Tech?”
He stops too, looking at you with curiosity. “Yes?”
“Thank you for coming with me. I know I already said that before, but I really appreciate your help.” Your voice is soft, and your fingers fidget nervously behind your back. “And for the flower in my hair… it was sweet of you.”
Tech smiles, taking a step closer. “You asked for my help, and I gave it. There is nothing to thank me for,” he says. His eyes flicker to the orchid in your hair and then back to you. “I apologize if this is forward, but I have always secretly favoured orchids. Both for their medicinal properties and, as you said before, they are beautiful and…” He trails off, his fingers flexing as he takes a deep breath, “and so are you.”
Your heart feels like it might burst from your chest, and your eyes glisten with unshed tears at his sweet words. Does this mean he likes you back? The possibility makes your heart race. But it could just be Tech being straightforward, yet you had never seen or heard him act this way with anyone else.
“Really?” you ask, the question sounding silly instead of just thanking him.
“Yes.”
You realize that you both have stepped closer to each other, your chests almost touching as he gazes down at you with gentle eyes. His gaze flickers from your eyes to your lips, but he’s nervous, and truthfully, so are you. Tech isn’t easy to read sometimes, making it hard to decide if he wants to kiss you or not.
You can feel his ragged breath on your face, his posture straight and stiff. So, you take the lead, standing on your toes and pressing a soft kiss to his cheek. You let it linger, smirking as you feel him take a sharp inhale of breath.
When you pull back, you gauge his reaction. He’s bewildered and quite in awe. Eventually, he breaks out into a grin, and reading the situation correctly, he places a hand on your cheek and slowly leans in. His nose brushes against yours, and his lips are about to meet yours until…
“Are you two back?” A voice calls from the ship, and you both jolt back, alarmed. You look to see Wrecker coming into view, rubbing his tired eyes. “Any luck?”
A wave of relief washes over you both, thankful that the intimate moment wasn’t fully interrupted, but both a little disappointed it didn’t happen. Tech gives you an apologetic look before following Wrecker, who retreats back inside.
That afternoon, you make a remedy with the orchids and hand cups to each of the batch, making sure they drink it all and monitoring their progress through the rest of the day. By the fourth hour, they are looking better than before, and you feel immense relief.
You and Tech don’t have time to speak about what happened that day, but when he is asleep in his bunk, you notice you still have some leftover petals. So, with a small thought, you retrieve his helmet and begin placing the flowers along the edges of the visor, scattering them along the top.
The next morning, your heart swells and you realise you’re completely smitten with him as you see Tech wearing his helmet, the cute still flowers adorning it. He doesn’t seem to mind them at all.

𝓓𝓮𝓪𝓻 𝓓𝓲𝓪𝓻𝔂..
Pt2. Captain Rex x F!Reader x Fives What happens when two of the men you admire suddenly begin to show just how interested they are in you, days after your secret diary goes missing? Word Count: 3514 Warnings: Edited but most likely has some grammar mistakes, reader is scared of water. A/N: Ugh this took my poor little brain too long to write but it's here now and I'm very proud <33
The rhythmic buzzing of cicadas paired with the summer heat and sunbathing on the beach was the perfect situation to find yourself in. The negotiations had gone smoothly, and your squad was permitted a spontaneous shore leave.
Navy blue waves licked lazily at the sand; the water contrastingly cold to the desert-like temperatures of the beach. A cool breeze accompanied the waves, providing a semblance of comfort as it danced with tall, sparse strands of wild grass.
You were seated on a sunbed, just beneath the dark shadow of an umbrella, enjoying the distant echoes of laughter from your squad. It was extremely uncommon for them to enjoy anything but the popular bar, 79s, on their days off.
You had to bargain with the Jedi council for a solid half an hour before Master Windu had finally given you the nod of approval.
Now, Rex reaped the benefits of shore leave in the form of a nap in the sun. You had made sure to apply a kriff ton of sun cream onto his back and shoulders and neck before he had fallen asleep, a mumbled 'thank you' rolling off the tip of his tongue as his eyes became droopy.
He was severely sleep deprived; always being assigned to Skywalker's side rather than yours. It wasn't that he didn't like Master Skywalker, it's just his missions and plans were always reckless and exhausting, and they ended with a few too many casualties.
Of course, that was always inevitable, and Rex did his best not to linger on the fallen, but it didn't always come to him easily.
But with you, he could rest assured.
With you, he could relax under the warm sun, feel the burning sand, and enjoy the comfort of seaside waves.
His caring nature also ensured that everyone would be provided for whilst he was asleep. Bringing extra sun-cream, a cooler filled to the brim with water bottles and ice lollies, and extra towels as well as beach balls.
Where did he get the credits from?
Well, that was a code that nobody could decipher.
Nevertheless, there you were, relaxing with your beloved Captain. Fives had dragged most of the squad into the waves, insisting that they play volleyball. He had tried to take you too, but your reluctance and uncertainty deterred him.
He had waved you off with a 'Watch me, General' and a wink before he engaged in a series of games of clumsy water volleyball.
Since they'd undergone ARC Trooper training, it became more uncommon for Echo and Fives to join the 501st on longer campaigns.
Each time they were reunited, Fives would glance to Echo with a small smile. And now, he was busy wrestling with Hardcase in the shallow parts of the water, laughter escaping the two as Echo hit the ball into the air.
A series of hoorays and pats on the back erupted as the ball hit the water with a splash.
One score for Echo's team.
You were content with watching from the side lines, if you remained far from the water.
If you still had your diary on you, you'd probably busy yourself writing down the details of this day, so the memory could continue to live on long after the war was over.
But just a few days prior it went missing. You thought you misplaced it and ransacked your entire quarters for it. By the time Rex had knocked on your door, nothing was in its' correct spot. Crumpled bedsheets, swinging closet doors and a chair in the middle of the room as you had searched under your desk.
He wanted to question your panicked state, but as soon as the words 'Mission' and 'Jedi Council' were said, you had put a halt to your search mission.
Rex hadn't tried to ask since.
But now, forced to sit by idly, you were mesmerised by the beauty of none other than Fives himself. He was an ARC Trooper for a reason. His shoulders were broad, his waist slim and his thighs - thick and strong and defined from hours of battle and constant training. His tan skin was wet with salty sweat and even saltier water, and if one were to squint hard enough, they could see droplets running down the side of his neck.
You often found yourself feeling grateful to Jango Fett for having such fine genes.
As if reading your mind, Fives decided to stretch, and in the process flexed his biceps. How big were they?
Was it just you or did it get twenty degrees hotter?
His head slowly turned, and for a moment, you made eye contact. It was quick, but it was still enough to have your heart racing. A smirk stretched across his lips as he caught sight of your blooming blush.
The moment was cut short as Jesse splashed salty water right in his face. You didn't even get a chance to process the expression on his face, the water having wiped it away, as a surprised yelp escaped Fives.
His hand flew to his face, a guttural groan leaving his lips as he swore. His form was hunched over, his hand wiping at his eye.
Before you knew it, you were up and running towards the water, your sunbed abandoned and dusty in your wake.
"Fives?!"
His attention snapped to you at the sound of your voice.
A gasp left your lips.
His eye. The usually tawny skin surrounding his eye had now gained in darker colour, the area a faint red under the sunlight. Tiny, crimson vessels coated his sclera, reaching with thin, curly tendons towards his iris.
Just what was in that water? Surely it shouldn't be this bad.
Jesse was quick to utter apologies, his mouth cast into a downturned smile.
"Jesse it's fine," Fives insisted, "It's nothing." He continued, rubbing at his eye, the corners of his lips fighting an oncoming scowl. His attention quickly diverted from Jesse, focusing on you just as your feet reached the water.
Your body stuttered, your movements faltering as you glanced down at the waves.
Fives eyed you wearily, noticing the hesitation plastered all over your features.
But then in a flash, the water was already hitting your knees, lazily crashing against your waist as you progressed further. Goosebumps rose all over your body, visible under the blaring sun.
Your stomach twisted into a ball of thread, bile rising in your throat. You squeezed the water bottle and towel in your hands, then proceeded to raise your arms into the air like a cheering fan.
The water was now waist-deep, splashing against your torso and swaying your body back and forth.
Pieces of broken pebbles dug into the balls of your feet, and you had to supress the urge to scream when a floating piece of seaweed tickled at your ankles.
A small wheeze left your lips though, and as you reached Fives and looked up, you noticed the concerned expression on Jesse’s face. Was it for Fives or for you? You couldn’t quite tell.
"Let me see." You requested, placing your busy hands on top of Fives’ shoulders.
"General, I'm fine. It's just a bit of water." Fives winced as he attempted an eyeroll, his hands having wrapped around your wrists.
He failed to notice the brief flash of panic in your eyes or the tension in your jaw as the water splashed onto your chest.
"Just a bit of... Water?" You repeated, swallowing harshly. Tugging your hands from his hold, you looked back up at him. "You look like you’re on some hard spice, Trooper. We’ll get your eye rinsed; we don’t know just how safe the water is."
The men behind him had gone awfully quiet, Fives noted as he silently pleaded with you. His eyes searched yours, his head tilting just the slightest. He wasn't a fan of silence, at least not when it came from his squad mates. And he knew all to well that they were watching like hawks, supressing their laughter.
However, as you stood there looking up at him, he couldn’t help but allow his resolve to crumble just a tiny bit. Who could say no to those sweet puppy eyes? Maybe Echo. Most definitely not Fives.
"Alright, lead the way." He finally let up, heaving a sigh. His eye was stinging a bit too much and it’s not like he minded the extra attention from you.
A snicker left one of the men behind you, and Fives was quick to whip his head around, motioning for them to ‘zip it’.
"General?"
"Fives?" You pursed your lips as you looked up at him, though you didn't last long as your gaze faltered, focusing on your primary target, the sunbed. You wouldn’t be rinsing his eye on the sand; it was too hot, and it felt like walking on lava rocks.
“Is it that bad? Or did you just want me all for yourself?” He asked, nudging your side with his elbow.
Wordlessly, you pushed him onto your sunbed.
“Aggressive, I can work with that.”
“Shut it.” You laughed out, shaking your head.
By that point, Rex had slowly begun waking up, rubbing tiredly at his eyes.
A confused hum left his lips as he noticed the state of your clothes. They were wet. Soaking wet, in fact.
"General?" His voice was deeper than normal, more guttural as he was recovering from his nap. "Why are you...Wet?"
“No reason, Captain.” You shrugged your shoulders with a wink.
Rex looked to Fives, giving him a confused look. He sat up in his sunbed, crossing his legs and rubbing his face. “There’s a first time for everything, I guess.”
“First time? First time for what?”
“Oh? Didn’t you know? Our General- “
“Rex.” The way his name rolled off the tip of your tongue had shivers running down his spine. It carried authority and a warning, but the captain was feeling quite daring. His chest puffed up, his whole demeanour changing. This wasn’t your sweet Captain Rex, this was cheeky Cadet Rex, ready to tell the most embarrassing of stories to his brother.
He looked over to Fives, leaning back on his hands.
“Our General over here is terrified of water.” He mused, recalling a specific memory, “On one of our first missions together, we were sent to a swampy planet. The General had us all fooled at first,” He paused, snickering at the displeased expression on your face, “The second a frog swam by, she was screaming and jumping into my arms. Jesse almost blasted the poor thing to bits!”
“Rex!” You exclaimed, throwing the damp rug at him, “You promised not to tell anyone!”
Rex sputtered as the cloth hit him square in the face, launching it into the air in retaliation. “Fives isn’t just anyone! Am I right or am I right?”
Fives looked between the two of you, his brows raised in shock and his eye looking much better.
“General? I’m not just anyone, I’m your favourite ARC Trooper!” He shook his head, pressing a hand to his chest. “I can’t believe you!”
Before you could deny his words or assure him, Rex was already stood by you.
“See General? You hurt his feelings.”
“N- No I didn’t! Fives you are my favourite, just don’t tell anyone, alright?” You pleaded, attempting your best puppy eyes yet. Your attempts faltered as he shook his head, feigning a hurt look.
“I’m not sure, General. You’ll have to make it up to me somehow,” He paused, exchanging mysterious looks with Rex.
“How can I make it up to you?”
“Oh I don’t know.. I’ll have to get back to you on that.” He retorted, pouting at you. Sometimes you forgot just how childish the man could be. You clutched the empty water bottle in your hand, readying it as your next weapon for Rex.
Turning towards him, a fake scowl twisted your expression.
“Don’t look at me like that, General, it’s a waste of a pretty face.” He quickly said, shielding his face as you raised the water bottle. Before it could leave your hands voluntarily though, a pair of arms wrapped around your waist.
“H- Huh?” A gasp left your lips as your body was swiftly rotated and slung over Fives’ shoulder like a sack of rations. That man really harboured more strength in those biceps than you knew. “Fives? What are you doing?”
“I’m having you repay me! Starting now!” He exclaimed and began moving. Rex moved to his side, keeping in step with Fives. Your eyes widened as the sunbed slowly moved further and further, becoming a distant promise of safety and comfort as salty waves made contact with Fives’ feet.
“Fives! L- Let me go! Please!” Your voice was reaching new peaks, rising higher and higher as you began kicking your legs. “I- I can’t swim!” You continued, lightly hitting his back.
His steps began to slow. You held your breath, leaning your head as far from the water as possible.
“You can’t swim? Are you serious or are you bullshitting me, General?” He asked, looking towards Rex, who only gave him a shrug of his shoulders.
“I promise! Please, please, please don’t go any further.” You pleaded once more, looking over to Rex too. Your hands were clasped together, as if you were praying to the two men. He exchanged glances with Fives, wordlessly communicating.
Rex looked over to you, pursing his lips.
“What’s holding y’guys up?” Hardcase shouted, coming closer and closer. “And since when did the General go into water that isn’t a part of her refresher?” He asked, coming to a stop with the three of you.
“Hardcase! You know I can’t swim! Help me, please!” You began kicking your feet again, leaning your head to the side. Your hands pushed against Fives’ back, attempting to heave yourself off.
His grip on you only tightened, and a squeak was forced from your chest as his palm squeezed your thigh.
“The General is a worse swimmer than me! At her level she isn’t even a swimmer, she’s a sinker!” He exclaimed, pointing to himself, Fives’ shoulders shook as a small laugh escaped him. You could feel the blood rushing to your cheeks, setting your skin aflame.
“Fine, I’ll let you go, but only ‘cause I trust Hardcase.” His voice was gruff as he lifted your body, slowly placing you in the water. Goosebumps attacked your skin once more, but this time from the chilling cold that encased you. Looking up, Fives wore a grin that challenged that of the cheshire cat. “You should see yourself, General. You look like an angry loth cat.” He said, pinching your cheek with one hand as the other rested on your waist, his hold firm but gentle, his thumb caressing your waist in small, centred circles.
Swatting his hand away, you looked back down to the water. It rested just below your hips but would venture higher up as the waves moved back and forth.
“D’you wanna go further?” Fives asked, his voice much closer now. Looking around, you noticed that Rex and the others had moved further into the water, where it now reached their chests.
Shaking your head, you turned back to Fives. “I can’t swim, plus I don’t have the same height advantage as you,” You paused, pointing to the others, “I’d be under water where they are now.”
A soft chuckle escaped his lips, crows’ feet tugging at the outer corners of his eyes. Your hands rose to his chest, steadying yourself as a rogue wave lifted your feet off the ground.
“C’mon, you can sit on my shoulders? I’m sure the others would be more than happy to have you around.” He asked, giving your waist a faint squeeze.
You took a moment to think over his proposition. Sure, being on his shoulders would mean you get to, mostly, stay out of the water. But what if you fell off? You cringed at the thought of water invading your nose, burning your windpipe and choking you from the inside out.
“I- I don’t know…” You paused.
Slowly, you looked up, your breath hitching in your throat. He was already watching you, admiring the tiny expressions you made as you watched his brothers. There was this smitten look resting across his face, as if you were the prettiest little thing he’s ever seen.
His face was so close, his body slightly brushing against your own. His scent invaded your senses, so much so you could almost taste it on the tip of your tongue.
The sunlight reflected in his eyes, outlining the different shapes and shades as if you were looking into a kaleidoscope. His irises had this gorgeous colour of warm honey, and they sparkled like a pair of amber crystals under the soft sunrays.
His skin glowed under the warmth, the rich olive colour becoming tanner the longer he sat outside of his armour, making Fives look healthier and happier. All of the men, in fact. Though their armour kept them safe and sound, you couldn’t help but marvel at the sight of them. They were in their zone.
Fives’ hand moved up to your face, his eyes concentrated on a stray piece of hair. The soft smile kept playing at his lips, never fully going but never fully staying.
There was a tension in his jaw, however, as his fingers toyed with your hair. It was like he was holding something back.
He moved the strand away, gently tucking it behind your ear, as best as it would go anyway.
“You’re gorgeous, cyar’ika.” His words came out as a whispered prayer, his gaze so tender and loving as he caressed your cheek with his knuckles.
It was as if your brain short-circuited again; his words dropped on you like a heavy boulder, so sudden, and yet your heartbeat was now racing a thousand miles per hour. Your breath was caught in your throat, and your mouth suddenly felt dry. Was this normal? Were you panicking or were you blushing? Were you going crazy? What was happening?
“F- Fives…” You whispered, your grip on his chest tightening. You never expected those words to come from him, or anyone at all. They weren’t meant for you. But if so, why did they make you so happy? So ecstatic and why did he make you swoon so hard?
He leaned his face a tad closer, just enough for you to feel his breath fanning over your lips.
You could feel his warmth, it was comparable to the sun itself. It rode in your veins, it had your blood bubbling up in excitement the longer he looked at you. You were just a small planet orbiting his sun, being pulled in closer and closer until all you could feel was the heat and the burn of him.
His tongue darted out to lick at his bottom lip, ridding it of dryness and discomfort.
But that small action had you going wild, feral even.
In that split moment, your gaze flickered to his lips. For a man who spent the majority of his life on a battlefield, his lips sure looked plump and made just for kissing.
It was like you were gravitating towards him, like a comet curve-balling around his planet, entangling around his soul and burning brightly at each twist and pull. His hold on you had your legs melting, as if you were nothing but a shard of ice, being thawed away at by his warm touch and sweetly whispered nothings.
His hand tilted your jaw, just enough for your lips to rest an inch from his. Any closer, and you’d be kissing, melting into one another.
Before either of you could do more, say more, the distant voice of Hardcase called out to you.
“Are you two comin’ or what?!” He shouted, cupping his mouth with both hands.
You jolted in your spot, effectively snapping out of whatever spell the man before you had cast on you. Clearly, he had been put under a spell too as his hands retracted and his posture stiffened.
“We’re on our way!” He shouted back, waving Hardcase off. His attention quickly returned to you, but the spell was now gone.
A lump formed in your throat, and you swallowed it down with struggle.
Uncertainty and fear tugged at your heartstrings, and Fives knew exactly what that meant.
“G- General-“
“I need to go.” Your voice was meek and shallow as you retracted from his touch, as if he left your skin with painful burns and sears wherever his fingertips touched. “Alone.” You continued, placing a hesitant palm on his chest as Fives attempted to follow you.
This couldn’t be happening.
With your back turned to him and your figure disappearing into the distance, Fives couldn’t help but curse under his breath. His lips slightly agape, he stood in the same spot you left him in just moments ago.
How could he have ruined everything in such a short amount of time?

Bacta and Bandages Chp.2 (Rex x Reader)
oops, I added some angst with your fluff. sorry about that.
Chapter 1. Chapter 3.
Vod
CW: Mentions of clone abuse, bruises, clone mistreatment, Medical procedures, needles, Talk of nightmares, panic attacks, flashbacks, Reader is gender neutral, no use of (Y/N), reader is a doctor, if I miss a tag LMK!
Minors DNI
Ahsoka was your first friend after you spent a few rotations adjusting.
She was bubbly, spunky and energetic. Despite all of that, she had a heart of gold and was trying her best to be a good Jedi.
The young togruta was the one to show you around the venator-class ship. She told of the inner workings, the decks, where the barracks are located, the mess hall, even a lounge type area with an endless supply of caf.
It was through her that signaled for the clones to warm-up to you. Rex was still formal and professional, but you’d nod and smile whenever you passed each other in the hall.
Hardcase and Kix were easy-going. The day you arrived and settled, they approached and properly apologized for slamming into you earlier. It was rather sweet.
In fact, a lot of the clones were kind to you. Some were tense, ‘shinies’ you’ve learned is the term for rookies. Some were more open and genuine. Though, a couple seemed somewhat fearful. As if afraid of offending you.
Over time you hoped to break these walls.
Currently, you were treating a clone, Jesse, for a blaster bolt graze from a training incident. Rex was also in the medical bay, arms crossed and staring rather disapprovingly at the poor trooper. Both were mostly silent as you treated him with bacta and bandages.
Simple fix…What antics caused him to shoot his own arm though? By the look on Rex’s face, it must’ve been something ridiculous.
Once you removed his glove, you paused. The wound was on the back of his wrist, it was minor, but the real concern were the bruises that littered his skin. They were the size and shape of fingers, as if someone grabbed Jesse.
You were trained to recognize instances of abuse. After all, people of any gender would come to your hospital carrying the wounds their loved-ones left. But clones weren’t allowed romantic partners.
So who hurt Jesse?
Your eyes drifted to Captain Rex before looking at your patient, “Jesse, would you like to…have some privacy?” You held his hand, offering him kindness if he chose to accept.
Something seemed to click for the both of them, “Oh! These?” The trooper you were treating gave you a smile as he motioned to the bruises, “Rough-housing with the boys! We’re brothers after all and things can get…”
“Rambunctious.” Rex finished his sentence.
Liar.
You didn’t press, “Well, tell your boys not to be so rough.”
The captain scoffed, “Good luck with that.”
After you stabilized the bandages, you gave Jesse a small smile, “There. Easy treatment.” You slipped your gloves off, “I’ll give you some painkillers to take before you sleep. That way the healing pain doesn’t keep you awake.”
“It’s alright Doc.” Jesse shook his head, “I’ve been through worse.”
You turned to look at him again. Your concern was evident, but you couldn’t force information out of him if he wasn’t willing to give it, “If you get hurt at all, by anything or anyone, you can come to me.”
I’m here to help you.
The trooper nodded with a smirk and stood, correcting his glove and armor again, “Thanks doc.” He gave you a salute before walking out of the medical bay.
Rex was going to follow but you spoke up first, “Captain Rex?”
He paused and turned to look at you, “What is it, Doctor?”
Your words had to be careful. One wrong move and you could label yourself as ‘unsafe’ for the clones to go to if they needed help. After a second you spoke calmly, making sure Rex knew you only wanted to be a safe person, “If you, or anyone needs anything, I’m here.”
He gave you a small smirk and a nod before leaving the medical bay.
Later that night, you were looking over medical reports when the doors opened. Two troopers, ones you haven't met before, were standing in the doorway. They were both clad in their blacks, most likely having been sleeping.
One of them, with a shaved head and a scar on his lip, had his hands on the shoulders of another trooper with the standard military haircut. It looked like the former had led the latter, who was shaking and distressed, to you.
“Doctor?” The leader seemed startled, “I um…I found him…”
“I got you,” You stood from your desk and motioned to a bed, “What are your names?”
“I’m Denal.” The stable one got the other onto the bed, “This is Vaughn.”
Denal and Vaughn. Got it.
You knelt by Vaughn’s feet, “Hey, Vaughn.” Your voice took a softer, gentler tone. You were clearly dealing with someone in great distress, “What happened?”
“He had some kind of nightmare and just…bolted. I found him in a supply closet.” Denal answered.
Nightmare. Panic attack? Most likely.
You nodded, keeping at a lower eye level with the panicked soldier, “Vaughn…I’m going to help you ok?”
His brown eyes looked around wildly.
“Does this happen normally?” Your questions were directed at the other trooper now.
He shook his head, “When we have nightmares, usually we can calm each other down. I’ve never seen him this bad though.”
The clones rely on each other for emotional support. Good to know.
If Vaughn wasn’t responding to your words, he wouldn’t be coherent enough to follow directions to calm him down. It seemed like he was caught in some type of flash-back. His mind was in overdrive and he was thrown into this attack.
Something triggered him. The nightmare.
“Denal,” You stood, keeping a hand on your patient's shoulder, “I’d like to use a mild sedative on him, do you think he’d consent to that?” you turned to face him. Perhaps clones weren’t fans of medication. After all, Jesse rejected painkillers earlier…
The coherent trooper nodded, “Yea, if you think that's best.”
Oh, so maybe Jesse wasn’t a fan of meds.
Wordlessly you went to one of the medicine cabinets and prepared the sedatives for him. You’d have to inject them, and in Vaughn’s current state, you weren’t entirely sure if that would end well.
Once things were prepared, you returned to kneel next to your patient, “Vaughn, I’m going to inject you with this, ok?” Your palm opened revealing the needle, “This will help, if you’ll let me.”
His eyes were staring directly at you, but they weren't seeing you.
“Denal, can you hold his hand?”
The other trooper sat next to his fellow soldier and grabbed his arm, “It’s gonna be ok, vod.”
Vod?
You didn’t comment as you slipped the needle into Vaughn’s arm. The sedatives were administered and you stood to toss the empty syringe. The medication kicked in fast, because the trooper stopped shaking when you returned to his side.
“Vaughn?” Your voice was still soft and quiet, “Do you know where you are?”
He looked around, before nodding, “The Resolute.”
You gave him a gentle smile, “Good. How are you feeling?”
“Tired.” He croaked, “What…”
“Nightmare,” Denal answered, “You had a bad nightmare. Geonosis again?”
Vaughn was at the battle of Geonosis?
You heard the reports and numbers. Half of the Republic's army had been wiped out on that planet. Many Jedi as well. It was a bloodbath.
Your patient nodded slowly, “Yea…”
“S’ok vod,” the other soldier put an arm around his shoulder and pulled him close.
You reached and put a comforting hand on his knee, “Do you want to sleep here until you need to be up and awake?”
The medical bay offered some more privacy. It was quieter and if he woke up again, he wouldn’t need to worry about waking his fellow soldiers.
To your surprise, he shook his head, “I’d rather be with my brothers.”
Brothers…The clones are brothers…of course…
You nodded in understanding, “Alright…I understand.” carefully, you got to your feet and sat down on his other side, “But if you feel like you need some quiet, you can come here.”
He gave you an exhausted, but grateful smile, “Thanks, doc.”
The two stood, but before they left, you asked, “Denal, Vaughn, what does vod mean?”
They shared a look with each other before Denal answered, “It’s mando’a. For sibling.”
“Sibling…thank you.” You smiled, “Get some rest, alright?”
Both of the soldiers left you alone again. After straightening the bed, you moved to your desk and picked up your datapad again.

the mistake you can't live without (Rex x Reader)
Summary: After spending hours by your side in the med bay, Rex decides that maybe mistakes are meant to be made.
Rex x Jedi Reader (gender neutral), angst with happy ending.
A.N: Got inspired by the song The High Road and since Rex seems to be a source of angst for me, it fit perfectly. This is entirely from Rex's POV.
Warnings: Mentions of injury/hospitalization, self deprecation and questioning ones self worth, mentions/implied steamy situations.
The urge to take hold of your hand was eating him alive.
Kix said nothing when he stood guard at your bed side, just gave him a little smile and nod. Kix knew, but the captain couldn't much care right now. Hours passed and the pain in his chest never ceased, if anything it grew, spread like a poison down to his finger tips. And maker did they itch to touch you, as if his skin on yours was the only way to cure that poison.
Instead he focused on the steady rise and fall of your chest, the assurance that you were breathing- something that wasn't so easy to see when he pulled you from that wreckage. You had felt so small and cold in his arms as he screamed for Kix and he didn't think that memory would be going away any time soon.
It should have been him. It was his job, it was what he was made for!
But he knew what your answer to that would have been: that protecting others was what you were made for, the job the force had laid in your arms. It was one of the reasons he admired the Jedi so, their dedication to life, their fierce protection of the innocent and those who relied on them.
He still should have protected you. What good was he if he couldn't? Just another reason he didn't deserve you. Just another reason he held himself back from taking you in his arms.
And force, did he want to take you.
Every time you stood close to him, so close he could feel your warmth seep through the spaces in his armor. Every time you smiled at him, that smile that made his heart skip around like some child playing in the park. Every time your hand grazed his shoulder, the touch that set his skin on fire in the most delightful way.
Every time you spoke to him in that intimate tone, told him how proud you were to fight beside him, told him he was worth more than he knew, told him you would always be there for him.
He didn't know his heart could soar and shatter at the same time until he met you.
Rex jumped when Kix tapped him on the shoulder. When he turned he had a tray of food shoved onto his lap and Rex looked up at the medic in bewilderment.
Kix winked, "Knew you wouldn't leave the General's side, so I had Echo bring up some food from the mess."
The captain let out a long breath. Maybe he'd been holding it the whole time. He hadn't even realized how many hours had passed of him just sitting there with his eyes on your breathing.
"Thanks," he said and briefly thought about giving him a grateful smile, but realized it would probably just be a grimace.
He forced himself to swallow a few bites, again because he knew what you would say. You would tell him he needed his strength, then when he still resisted you would narrow your eyes and turn it around on him. Tell him he owed it to his men to stay strong and healthy. And you'd be right. You were almost always right.
His eyes couldn't stay away from you though, not even here. He always found it hard not to look at you when you were in the room. As if his gaze could never get its fill of you, as if trying to burn your visage into his mind.
And what a visage you were. That effortless aura of power and control, but still somehow so soft at the edges. Soft enough to laugh when Fives and Hardcase were at it again, soft enough to smile at Echo when he sassed his brothers, soft enough to ask a 'stick in the mud' captain to join the fun.
He always told himself to look away. You didn't deserve to be ogled, didn't deserve to feel his eyes running over every feature that he adored.
Rex was starting to realize that everything he did around you was a mistake. His feelings were a mistake. Even if there was ever a chance that you wouldn't recoil at his feelings, you were a Jedi. Even on the slim chance that you felt the same, you could never love him back.
That didn't stop him from letting little things slide, small acts slip through. His hand brushing yours. Eyes lingering even after you catch him staring. Leaning in just a hair closer than needed. Smiling at nothing more than you being near.
Whispering for you to stay with him between calls for a medic.
Every slip-up big or small was something he should regret.
When had he gotten so comfortable making mistakes? He had never allowed for such sloppy behavior before, he prided himself on his control and meticulous nature. It would seem as though he started to let mistakes slide, so long as they were tied to his feelings for you.
Rex wondered if you even noticed. He wondered if he wanted you to notice. If he ever made you uncomfortable he would never forgive himself. But, as far as he could tell, you were never uncomfortable with him. You always lifted your fingers towards his brushing hand, smiled at his lingering gaze, leaned in to match his closer than needed posture.
Maybe...
He closed his eyes and sighed. This was no time to think about that. Besides, none of that mattered. You were a Jedi. Anything that could ever be between you two would always be a mistake.
Again, Rex had lost track of time. Tup cleared his throat right behind him and only then did he take turn from you again.
"Sorry, Captain, but General Skywalker wants to see you. The Jedi council wants your personal report on what happened."
Rex saw the way his eyes flickered to you, the guilt that flashed across his face for just a moment. Tup had been one of the ones you saved with the force, one of the troopers you had pushed to safety as the building caved in. Tup, Fives, and himself. Just another day in the field, another time they owed their lives to you.
His body felt like it was made if durasteel as he rose. As much as he wanted to stay, wanted to be there when you finally woke up, duty came first.
And that's who he was. Duty. It always had to come first. You knew that, so both of you knew that any feelings between you two didn't matter in the end.
Duty came first, and anything else would be a mistake.
Rex hadn't been by your side when you woke. Anakin had ordered him to get some sleep the moment he was done debriefing the council. There were only a few times that he had wanted to defy orders, and that was one of them. In the end though, he knew his general was right, and of course, just like his eating, he knew you'd insist on it too.
Not that much sleep came to him. Every time he closed his eyes he saw your body in the midst of that rubble. Blood covered and as still as a corpse. Rex had seen too many of his brothers like that to not fear the worst as they dug you out.
He laid awake with nothing but his thoughts and in the end fate had kicked him again; he hadn't been there when you woke. Kix insisted that you were fine, well on the mend, nothing a few hours in a bacta tank couldn't solve.
Rex had to ignore the ringing in his ears as you explained that you managed to mitigate the worst of the impact with the force, cocooning yourself with it until the sheer weight was too much.
All in all, you were fine. All things considered it had turned out better than anyone could have hoped.
That didn't stop Rex from collapsing in the first dark hallway he found. His stomach heaving up bile in place of the food that wasn't there. He had kept such a tight hold on his grief and worry that, when it was rapidly replaced with relief, his body couldn't take it anymore.
You were okay! You were safe! You were alive!
His eyes watered when the dry heaving reached its peak, but he was able to get his breathing under control eventually.
How could relief cause such an effect on his body, even when it was relief over you? He pressed his forehead to the wall, the cool durasteel soothing him. Maybe he just need sleep, or food, or both. Maybe it was all just a combination that made his composure snap.
In the end all that mattered was that you were okay. He could live with himself so long as he knew that you hadn't died because of his mistakes. And of course, all he told you was that he was glad you were safe, because anything more would be an even bigger mistake.
Unfortunately for him, it seemed that fate, or the force, or some maker who hated him had other plans.
He had been in the gym, practicing his forms when the news came. Dressed in nothing but shorts and a black top, he had already worked up quite a sweat when Kix and Jesse wandered in. They were also dressed in training clothes and Kix was wearing an amused smirk as he talked.
Usually he wouldn't pay them any mind, but Rex paused when he heard your name and 'injury' in the same sentence. Wheeling around in an instant he called out, marching towards the men and all but demanding to hear what they had just said.
Kix straightened up, seeming taken aback for a moment, "Uh, was just joking that I should have a frequent visitor program, the General was in for another injury just now."
"What!?"
Kix and Jesse shared a quick look before Kix mentioned that you were in your quarters resting and- and Rex didn't know what else he had said because he was out the door in an instant.
Perhaps he looked like a mad man as he ran down the halls, but that was the furthest from his mind. It hadn't even been a week since you fully healed from getting near crushed to death and you were injured again? He didn't think he heart could take this, this constant cycle of aching worry and blinding relief. Especially since he knew that someday, that relief may never come.
He bypassed the keypad by your door all together, electing to pound his fist against the durasteel instead. If it wasn't locked he would have opened it without a word.
A call of your name died in his throat as the door hissed open, your eye wide the second they met his.
"Rex, what-!"
"Are you okay?" he closed the small distance between you two in an instant and the door slid shut behind him, "Kix said you were hurt again, I- what happened?" his hands were hovering over your arms, needing to touch, to hold, but afraid of hurting more. "Was it your last injuries? Were there complications-"
You held up your hands, shushing him gently, "Rex, Rex, I'm fine. I was training with Anakin and Obi-wan, and Obi just managed to nick my hand." You waved the bandaged palm, "Bacta patch is taking care of it as we speak."
Without thinking, he took your hand in his, gazing at the wrapping as he felt that blinding relief again. Just a scratch, just a little burn, it was nothing. So why did he feel so sick again? His fingers were stroking your palm an effort to ground his reeling thoughts as he felt the urge to tuck it against his chest.
He flinched when he felt your other hand brush his cheek
"Rex, you're shaking." It was a whisper, as intimate as the closeness of your bodies. "What's wrong?
He finally broke his gaze away from your injured palm to meet your eyes. What a mistake. Those eyes were so full of worry, a silent plea to confide in you, to let you in. You were right, he was shaking, and his heart was pounding in his chest violently. He should be calming down now, now that he knew it was nothing, that you were fine, that you were safe.
Instead, all he wanted to do was envelop you in his arms and beg you to never worry him again. Wanted to bury his face in your neck and tell you every little want and need in his heart.
The hand that was clasped in his started stroking his knuckles. "Rex, pleas-"
"I can't do this any more," he whispered, before dropping your hand, cupping your face, and pulling your lips hard against his.
He knew he shouldn't, knew it was a mistake, but he just couldn't take it, not now, not anymore! The hands holding your cheeks must have been rough against your soft skin, because he heard you moan into his mouth.
It was only then that Rex pull back, ashamed, " 'm sorry," he whispered as he began to step away, "I shouldn't have done that, I'm so sorry."
But your hands gripped his shirt tight, yanked him back against you.
"Don't you dare," your words were breathless as you cupped the back of his neck, "don't you dare stop kissing me, Captain," and your lips were back on his, all passion and desperate desire. Just as his had been.
It was his turn to moan into the kiss, wrapping his arms around you, making sure every centimeter of your bodies were pressed against each other. All he could think of was the way you moved against him, the way one hand slid down to grip his arm while the other moved to grip what little length his hair had.
But it didn't take long for reason to seep in.
When you pulled back for air his mind cleared just long enough for him to say, "We shouldn't, we shouldn't be doing this."
"Why?" was your only panting response.
He shook his head, and since he couldn't bare that look in your eyes, he closed his and pressed his forehead to yours. "I have no right. No right to impose my feelings on you, you're a Jedi-"
"I don't care," that was practically a growl as pulled back, making him look you in the eyes again. "I don't give a damn anymore. Rex, I love you, and now that I know you feel the same, I don't care what the Jedi say." You moved then, pressing his back against the cold metal of the wall. Then, placing a hand over his heart you said, "This can't possibly be wrong, Rex, I know it, I feel it." Next your hands were cupping his face, just as his had done when he first pulled you in. "Rex, do you want me?"
His answer was quick, as easy as breathing. "More than anything."
"Then don't stop kissing me."
He was a man who followed orders, and said nothing else as he leaned into your waiting lips. He wasn't holding back this time. The captain relished the whimper you let out when his tongue slipped passed your lips, eating it up, wanting more.
If you didn't care, then he couldn't find it in him to care either, not now, not here with all his dreams coming true. Mistake or not, it was yours and his to make, here, now, together.
Your robe found its way to the floor when he started backing you up towards your bed. He would spend hours giving you the worshiping attention you deserved, devote night after night to fulfilling any desire you wanted. If this was still a mistake, if he was a mistake, than damn it, he would make damn sure he was a worth while one.
Anything you wanted was yours, he swore it. Anything that was in his power to give was yours for the taking. He would make himself the mistake you couldn't live without.

Swimming In Stars
Captain Rex x Jedi!reader
Warnings: none
Summary: while on shore leave the reader decides to go off on an adventure of her own, stumbling across a certain clone captain in the process.
It probably wasn’t the smartest idea to be sneaking out of the temple the night before shore leave ended, seeing as there were still reports to file and mission plans to go over. . . But then again you weren’t exactly known for making smart decisions.
The temple guards were easy enough to slip past, especially after years of you and Anakin memorizing the shift changes. You could probably do it blindfolded if you were being honest. . . And backwards.
The sun had long since set when you departed, a deep navy cloak wrapped around your form,the hood pulled sharply over your head as you dove through one of the open temple windows and onto the ground below. The cloak had been a gift from a woman on Pantora that you had helped rescued from enemy fire. You had tried to decline but she insisted, practically wrapping you in it as she did.
You didn’t wear it often though, only using it for special occasions. . . Such as sneaking out of the temple in the dead of night. Normal things like that.
Having resided on Corucant for most of your life, you knew the streets well and you navigated them with ease, blending in well as you did. Without your Jedi robes you were as common as the rest of the species who perused the streets.
Though you had a particular mission in mind unlike most of them: 79’S.
Normally you held little interest in the clone bar, despite it being a common discussion topic amongst the clones. . . But when you overheard Jesse and Fives talking about going the night before shore leave ended you couldn’t help but find your interest peaked.
It wasn’t like you hadn’t done stuff like this before- force when you and Anakin were younger it was a weekly occurrence to sneak out and wander the clubs and cantinas dressed in civvie clothes.
But it had been so long.
And if you were being honest you could do with a night out.
79’S wasn’t hard to miss, not with its giant neon sign and clusters of clones moving in and out of the doors. No one paid you a passing glance as you moved between the throngs of white armor. And if anyone did, they didn’t care.
Slowing to a stop in the middle of the raging bare you cast your eyes around you, thankful that over the years so many clones had picked up signature markings. But then again with the amount of time you were around certain members of the 501st it was easy to recognize their force signatures.
Your eyes moved across the room to one of the lit up circular booths in the corner. Fives was the first one you recognized, and the Jesse followed along with Hardcase, Kix, and Echo.
A sly smirk pulled on the corners of your lips as you ducked under a clones elbow, twisting between moving bodies as you navigated your way through the crowds.
Keeping your features hidden to the best of your ability you moved towards the table, none of them paying attention to you as they listened to some dramatic storytelling from Fives, the ARC trooper waving his hands wildly in the air as he did.
You didn’t allow him the satisfactory of finishing the story though, because instead you sharply slapped a palm down on the table earning all five sets of deep brown eyes to look up at you.
“Ma’am can we help you?”
Letting your fingers dance across the surface of the table you picked up one of the untouched shots littered about the table. “Getting drunk the night before mission? Mmm I thought you boys knew better.” You hummed, keeping your head low as you allowed your words to simmer.
“Uhhh-“
When you had finally had enough of your antics your amused smirk widened and you suddenly slid into the booth besides Fives, tooling back the shot as you did before turning to peak out at the ARC trooper next to you.
“I’m just kidding, I don’t care what you guys do.”
Fives eyes widened besides you and as you slowly looked around the rest of the table the others did the same.
“General!?”
Slapping a hand over the ARCs mouth you gave him a warning look. “Hey, keep it down!”
Fives nodded beneath your palm and as you slowly lowered your hand you let out a breath. Across the table Jesse leaned forward, keeping his voice as low as he could in the noisy bar. “General, with all do respect what are you doing here?”
“It’s shore leave isn’t it?”
Next to Jesse Hardcase leaned back in his seat, arms sprawled out against the back of the booth. “I didn’t know Jedi knew how to party. I ain’t complaining though.”
“Trust me when I say it isn’t exactly smiled upon, but c’mon- when have any of you known me to stick by the rule book?”
A chorus of rarelys and nevers went up around the table, making you grin.
“But I swear-“ you leaned forward, bracing your elbows on the table as you pointed a finger at all of them. “If you guys say anything I’m freezing you all in carbonite and using you as well decorations.” You paused, “now who wants to go get us a round of shots?”
———————
You could feel the buzz the alcohol was giving you but you were nowhere near drunk. Maybe tipsy but knowing your midichlorian levels that was as probably as good as it was gonna get. Fives, Jesse, and Hardcase on the other hand? They were twice as chaotic as they usually were, leaving you, Kix, and Echo to watch on in amusement.
“How many drinks does it normally take to get him on his ass?” You whispered, having somehow found your way in between Fives and Echo.
“You don’t wanna know.” Echo spoke over the rim of his cup, the two of you eyeing his brother.
“Got it.” Leaning forward slightly in your seat, you look across Echo at Kix. “Five credits he tries to challenge one of us to darts.”
“I’ll take that bet.” The clone medic reaching over to give you a solid hand shake.
But it would seem the rambunctious ARC trooper had other plans. “Uh guys- guys!” Eyes elsewhere, Fives slapping you in the shoulders.
“Kriff, Fives no need to hit so hard-“
“Code Red, code red!”
All sets of eyes apart from yours followed Fives line of sight, a chorus of curses going up as they did. The whole bunch practically sliding deeper down into their seats as if trying to lay low.
That’s when you found what they were looking at. . . Or rather who.
A certain blonde clone captain accompanied by another familiar clone clad in white and yellow.
“I’m getting the vibe that it isn’t common seeing them here.” You spoke softly, head titling slightly as you observed Rex and Cody walk up to the bar.
“Are you kidding me? I mean we constantly ask Captain if he wasn’t to join us but it’s always “I have reports to fill and so on and so forth-“ Fives mimicked, reaching for his drink that you casually slid out of reach from him, your eyes still on the blonde clone.
You considered Rex one of your closest friends, since the beginning of the war you had helped Anakin co- command the 501st, and with it you had become close with the clones under your command.
They were your friends, but none of them held quite a place in your heart such as Rex. He was everything a person should be. Understanding, kind, outrageously smart.
Being in his presence was like standing in a beam of warm afternoon sunlight.
You trusted him with your life.
“Twenty credits says if he spots us the General gives him a heart attack.” Jesse spoke, taking a sip from his drink as the six of you watched them from across the bar.
You blamed the buzz from the several shots for what you did next. “I’ll give you something even more entertaining.” With eerie ease you slid over Fives lap and out of the booth, once more adjusting the hood that was over your head.
“Should we be trying to stop her or-“
“Nah I wanna see how this plays out- plus she’s one of our superiors, I don’t think we can do anything to stop her now.”
As the night had worn on the crowds had somewhat thinned, making it easier to make your way to the bar. With both their backs turned to you a playful grin returned to your features.
You were going to milk this for all it was worth.
With an immense calmness you threw your arms over the shoulders of both the men, sticking your head in between the two of them. “Funny running into you two here. Come here here often?” You mused, eyes bouncing between the shocked looks on both their faces. . . Though Cody’s was also laced ever so slightly with amusement.
“General!” Taking notice of how loud the word came out of his mouth, Rexs eyes darted around before returning to you. “General, what are you doing here?”
“Avoiding my responsibilities.” You spoke casually, glancing over at Cody with an amused smile. “Commander I just know Obi-wan is gonna have a laugh when I tell him your out drinking before we all return from shore-leave.”
The amused look on Cody’s face fell slightly. “Kriff, please don’t tell him.”
“I’m just kidding, I won’t.”
Your turned back to Rex, leaving Cody to order his drink as you did. Y/e/c eyes met deep brown ones that you knew all too well. “I’m surprised to see you here general.”
“I’m honestly slightly surprised to be here. I’ll admit this wasn’t my plan when I woke up this morning.” You smiled, leaning slightly on the bar as you turned your body to face him. “And I definitely wasn’t prepared for a drunk Fives.”
From underneath his breath Rex let out a soft string of curses, before following the way you were nodding your head. You watched in amusement as your group of troopers sent their captain an awkward set of waves, Rex wincing in embarrassment at the state of the men under his command.
“Please tell me you didn’t get them drunk. . . “
“No, of course not!” You paused. “They already had drink when I got here. . . Though I will admit the three rounds of shots were on me—“
“Y/N!”
The use of your first name caught you somewhat off gaurd as Rex slightly scolded you, though the hints of a laugh could be heard behind it.
He had never called you by your first name before. It had always been General or General Y/L/N. For some reason it made you melt.
“What! I haven’t had fun like this in ages, give me a break!” You laughed, watching as Rexs face turned ever so slightly pink.
“If my men are hungover tomorrow I’m blaming you.” Rex shook his head, his own smile creeping across his lips.
“Deal. If they are I’ll bring you Caf for the next week.” You paused. “The good stuff Obi-wan has.”
Rex raised an eyebrow. “I’ll shake to that.” His gloved hand coming up to meet yours in a solid handshake, your nerve endings feeling as if that had just caught fire from his touch alone.
“Also you’re playing darts with us, c’mon-“ without giving him a second to speak you were yanking him out of his bar stool, unaware of the deepening shade of red on the captains face.
“General, I-“
“No buts. Plus Cody can watch your seat.” You mused, looking back over your shoulder at the commander of the 212th, the clone sending you an amused look as he brought his drinks to his lips.
“Don’t let him have too much fun General!”
“I would never!”
——————
It took longer than expected for you to get Rex out of his normal shell and loosen up. You managed to get two shots into him with the aid of several cheering clones and now he was demolishing Fives and Jesse on their fourth game of holo-darts, all the while a soft smirk had laid itself across his features.
You were slowly seeing a side to Rex you had never seen before.
“You got him wrapped around your finger you know.”
You hummed a response, lifting your glass to your lips as you watched Rex throw yet another dart at the board, earning a groan from Fives.
“Y/N-“
The use of your name pulled your attention finally, turning your head to look at Echo was was leaned against the wall next to you. “Sorry what did you say?”
Echo merely grinned, “I can bet you without a doubt that if you weren’t here Rex would not have agreed to play darts with us.”
“That’s because none of you were going to ask him.”
A pause.
“Alright fair point, but if we had he wouldn’t have.”
Playing with the tiny straw in your drink you let out a sigh. “Echo what are you trying to say?”
The only answer was a light laugh and a pat on the back before the ARC trooper moved forward to take his turn at the board.
Glancing around the bar you could tell it had gotten much later. Only a few little groups of clones still mingled, talking casually to one another while one or two sat passed at the bar. Cody had departed awhile ago, only stopping by to say farewell before heading back to the base.
The neon clock on the far wall told you that you should probably be heading out as well. You had to get up early tomorrow to re-walk the Resolute and make sure everything was in place for the upcoming missions.
Grabbing your cloak from where you had discarded it earlier when you had realized the crowds were thinning, you snapped it back into place.
“Alright boys, I’m calling it quits for the night.”
A series of protests went up, and though you prided yourself on how observant you were constantly you didn’t notice how the captain turned his attention towards you as you passed, an echo of his smile from playing darts still on his face.
“So early General?”
With a raised eyebrow you looked over your shoulder. This really was a new Rex. “Captain it’s past midnight. We all have to be up in a couple hours to catch the shuttles back up to the Resolute.”
It was clear Rex had lost track of time, his face falling as he looked past you at the clock on the far wall, it’s neon numbers blinking lazily. He let out a curse under his breath, shoving his remaining dart into the outreached palm of Jesse.
“I told General Skywalker I would have those reports finished by morning.”
“Ooh Captains in trouble.”
“Shut it Fives.”
Shaking your head in amusement you turned to depart, only getting as far as the main entrance before a figure was rushing after you. “General! Allow me to escort you back?”
As you looked over to your left you smiled at the blonde clone settling into a steady pace besides you, the two of you stepping out onto the slowly quieting Corucant street.
“I thought you had things to do captain?”
“I do, but the temple and the clone facility are in the same general direction. Plus it wouldn’t be right to have my general walking alone.”
There he was. Your sweet and polite Rex you had grown so very fond of. You were perfectly capable of defending yourself but you would also never turn down an evening stroll with your favorite captain. “Very well.”
As if you had done it a million times before you absentmindedly looped your arm through Rexs, pulling him slightly down the street, all the while being blissfully unaware of the startled look on the captains face and the red creeping across his cheeks.
In truth Rex had always looked at you like you were the most brilliant thing he had ever seen in the galaxy. The first time he saw you he didn’t think you were real. You were laughing at something General Skywalker had said, your head tilted back towards the sun, eyes squeezed shut tightly in joy.
He stumbled on half his words when he was finally introduced.
And now here he was, your arm looped through his as you led him down some neon lit street in the belly of Corucant.
“How was your shore-leave? I know it was only a week but-“
“It was fine, thank you General. Got caught up on a lot of cadet forms that had been piling up while we’ve been away.”
Laying your free hand atop Rexs arm you gave him a soft smile. “You can call me Y/N, at least for right now. No one else is around, plus I like when you call me by my name. Makes me feel more like an actual person and not a tool for the Republic.”
Rex was silent for a moment, any words that had been on his tongue a moment before had all fizzled out. Kriff, you were going to be the death of him.
“Y/N.” He said it slowly, almost as if laced with caution.
You beamed up at him, giving his forearm a pat. “Rex.”
He fell silent yet again. . . And then coughed awkwardly, turning his eyes ahead. “Uh, how was your shore-leave?”
“Boring. In the temple there’s a lot of time designated for self reflection. It gets boring and much to quiet if I’m being honest. I would rather be stuck in the barracks with the 501st-“
At that Rex let out an amused chuckle. “All due respect I don’t think you’d last a night in there. You haven’t had to go to sleep with the odor of Fives feet in the air. “
“Mm maybe not but when we were padawans there was a couple weeks where I had to share a bunk with Anakin, and let me tell you— half the time he smelled like a wet womp rat.” You paused, “but then again Hardcase sometimes smells that way too-“
You were surprised that your words got a full laugh out of Rex, his head tilting backwards as he laughed. The sight was enough to make your smile widen.
Kriff, you were in so much trouble.
“What?”
“What?”
“You just said you were in so much trouble.” Rexs previous joyful expression had fallen, now laced with concern as he looked at you.
Oops. . . Apparently those words had not just been in your head.
The two of you paused at a crossroads. . . Literally. Though neither of you paid attention to the hundreds of ships and cruisers that buzzed by several yards above you.
“It’s nothing.” Shaking your head, you pulled yourself away from Rex, continuing forward.
“General- sorry- Y/N. Are you alright?” Folding his arms behind his back, Rex moved forward to sink into your pace.
“I—“ you paused, a tiny war raging inside your head as you weighed wether or not you should give him some explanation. “I am not a good Jedi.”
“What do you mean? I may not know much about Jedi but I know that for as long as I’ve known you you’ve done an excellent job.”
“That’s sweet of you to say, but I’m really not. I’ve made a really big mistake that no jedi is supposed to.”
Rex paused in his steps, watching you with a slight tilt to his head. “Which is?”
Your own steps faltered when you realized he had stopped, the action making you look back over your shoulder at him. “Jedi arnt allowed to form attachments. It’s considered a selfish act. . . And yet I’ve done it.”
A pause. “Forgive me but I don’t understand you jedi and your rules.”
“Heh, neither do I Rex. Neither do I.” Turning fully, you gave him a soft smile and for a moment you just watched him, waiting to see if he caught on.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“You really don’t get it do you?”
Another pause. “Get what?”
Your feet was moving before your mind was but when it did catch up you made no move to stop it. You only halted when your toes of your boots were bumping against Rex’s, the captain looking down at you with a wide eyed and curious stare.
“The attachment I have is you, Rex.”
He said nothing, though you felt a shift in the air as his eyes widened and his cheeks turned rosy. “Me?”
“Yeah, I think it was set into place the moment I met you. With your awkward smiles and salutes and your unwavering kindness and understanding.” You looked down, slowly reaching out to grab Rex’s gloved hands.
“General-“
His voice brought your gaze upwards and with it Rex sucked in a gulp of air. “It’s Y/N.”
It was only when you slowly rose to the balls of your feet did Rex shift awkwardly, heat creeping down his neck as he realized what you were doing. “I’ve never kissed anyone before-“
“Neither have I.”
You both knew the risk you were taking and though neither of you spoke it, there was a silent promise that neither of you would say a word of it to anyone.
And with that you pressed your lips firmly to Rexs, and for the first time in a long time. . . The force around you felt right.

~~~
The Kaldonya mission lasted two weeks, two weeks that Rex and Lexie very much enjoyed. The mission ended up being easy, no one tried to assassinate Senator Amidala, and the Jedi and the Captain got to keep pretending to be two regular people exploring the beginning of their relationship. They accompanied Padmé on all the official visits that the Kaldonyans had planned and since she already knew and there was no need to hide anything, they got to just be themselves. They walked hand in hand through the botanical gardens of the capital city and they sat together during theatre plays and Kaldonyan music concerts. It was almost… normal. And with Fives keeping his promise to cover for them, Rex was able to spend every night in Lexie’s room, getting to know each other’s bodies and falling asleep in each other’s arms, without having to worry about a repeat of that first morning.
Not that Echo didn’t suspect it, he just didn’t want it confirmed. He really did care about regulations and always tried to follow the rules; as much as he could anyway, with Lexie as his CO and Fives as his teammate. But it was better to not know, know something like that, because if he did, then he would have to break said regulations and keep it a secret – and he would break them, there wasn’t really a question about that, Lexie was his vod’ika, he really cared about her, but he would still feel a bit conflicted in doing so. If he just suspected it, however, then he wasn’t really breaking any rules by not pointlessly reporting something unfounded.
He had more or less found out a couple of days before the mission finished. Echo had gone to Lexie’s room in order to go over their schedule for the last days of official visits and negotiations, and as they were talking, he could not help but see a dark purple mark on her neck. He tried not to pay attention to it, tried to convince himself that it could be anything, but Echo was always very observant, he was an ARC trooper after all.
He had noticed the tension between Lexie and Rex back on Padmé’s starship, and how that tension seemed to just disappear over the course of their mission. He had also glimpsed them through a window as they were dancing together during the welcome banquet after he and Fives escorted Padmé to her chambers, and Rex had very curiously not been in his room the next morning. Safe to say, it was really easy for him to put two and two together.
So as they talked about the upcoming day, Echo’s eyes kept drifting to the base of her neck and Lexie suddenly froze as she remembered the mark Rex had accidentally left on her the previous night. She’d seen it in the mirror that morning but thought the collar of her dress would cover it, and it had up until then, but as she brought her hand up to it she realised it had shifted down a little. Just enough for the hickey to be visible she assumed. Osik. Hers and Echo’s eyes met again and she cleared her throat.
“I-”, she started.
“I don’t want to know”, Echo interrupted her.
Lexie let out an awkward laugh.
“Just…”, he continued, looking unsure and a bit uncomfortable, “just be careful, vod’ika”.
“I will be”, she said quietly, pulling on the collar.
Echo looked at her a bit longer then shook his head with a chuckle. He didn’t say it but if what he thought had happened really did happen, he was actually happy for her and his ori’vod.
As much as they tried not to think about how things would be after their mission, Lexie and Rex had to face it eventually. Once the treaty was signed and Kaldonya officially joined the Republic, they left and regrouped with the 501st. And were quickly reminded of the harsh realities of war.
Lexie was left in charge of the battalion as Anakin accompanied Mace Windu aboard the Star Destroyer Endurance for a mission. She didn’t even get to speak with her friend for longer than a couple of minutes before he boarded a shuttle in the Resolute’s hangar. The 501st was then called to assist Obi-Wan with ending a siege in the Outer Rim. The battle was harrowing, and Lexie had to constantly force herself not to hover around Rex. She had to trust that he could take care of himself and also had to not show any favouritism. It helped when Fives reassured her that he had the Captain’s back, and Lexie was able to focus more on the battle and fight alongside Obi-Wan.
By the time the siege was done and the two Jedi could contact the Council again from aboard the Negotiator, they were informed of an assassination attempt on Master Windu. There was nothing for them to do, both Anakin and Mace Windu had already been rescued from Vanqor, and were now back on Coruscant, recovering in the Temple, while Ahsoka and Master Plo Koon were en route to Florrum to rescue the remaining hostages.
But one of the hostages had already been executed, and Lexie watched in horror the transmission they received from the Council that showed Aurra Sing shoot Commander Ponds point blank in the head. Rex and Cody were in the briefing room as well, and Lexie had to stop herself from reaching out and taking the Captain’s hand as she sensed the grief and anger that surrounded him.
Lexie knew both Rex and Cody were very close to Ponds, the Captain had told her during one of their late night conversations, months ago. It broke her heart watching Rex avoid her eyes as he asked if he could be dismissed after the briefing finished and it broke her heart even more to know she could not go after him without raising suspicion. At least he had Cody, who also asked to be dismissed and left after his vod’ika, presumably so they could comfort each other.
Rex was quiet on the shuttle that took them back to the Resolute after the 212th was called on their next assignment. It was an unfamiliar situation, as he usually was the one comforting Lexie when the anxiety got the better of her. The only time the roles had been reversed before was after Denal was killed, but during that instance Rex had not been as affected by it, or he had not let her see it at least. And there also hadn’t been a lot of time for her to be there for him either, as she had quite quickly been sent to Garronn. But now there was plenty of time, too much even, as the Resolute had been ordered to patrol the sector for the next three rotations before returning to Coruscant.
Rex didn’t seem to want to talk however, and also didn’t want to take some time for himself. He actually appeared insulted and a little angry with her when she suggested that he should take the rest of the day off. He categorically declined it, and so the both of them headed to the bridge to discuss their patrol trajectory with Admiral Yularen and take care of anything else that needed their attention. They couldn’t talk freely, and Lexie could still feel some tension between them which was making her anxious.
Later that rotation, once the lights in the corridors, training facilities and mess hall were dimmed in order to simulate the night cycle, Lexie was finally heading to her quarters. She’d lost sight of Rex a few hours ago, as he left the bridge to go to the mess, while she had to stay behind in a holo-call with the Jedi currently in nearby sectors. She was exhausted and worried that maybe she had really upset him, so she was a little surprised to find Rex in her room, armor neatly stacked and stored under her desk, while he laid in bed only in his blacks.
“Hi”, she cheerfully greeted him, “didn’t expect to see you here”.
He paused the nature documentary on the small screen above her bed that he was watching and turned to give her a small smile. “I hope you don’t mind… I-I know I didn’t ask, I just-”.
“I don’t mind Rex. You’re always welcome in my room”, she assured as she sat on the bed facing him. She cupped his face, her thumb gently stroking his cheek and he leaned into the touch. “How… how are you feeling?”, Lexie asked after a brief hesitation.
Rex took a deep breath and met her eyes, and Lexie could see the sadness behind them. “Not great, cyare…”, he admitted, his voice a little weak. “Ponds… he was a good friend… a brother”.
“I’m so sorry Rex. What can I do to help?”, she asked him, deeply touched by his vulnerability. He trusted her, he had come to be with her during a tough time and while he wasn’t allowing himself to cry, to break down, he was still showing her a side of him he hadn’t before.
“I just want to sleep and hold you”, the Captain replied with a weak smile.
“Aright”, she said, leaning closer and placing a soft kiss on his forehead. “Let me get changed”.
Lexie placed her lightsabers on the desk next to Rex’s helmet, then quickly took off her combat clothes. She put on the new blue pyjama set she’d bought on Kaldonya during one of their visits to the capital city, then jumped into bed. Rex wrapped his arms around her, holding her tightly against him and taking in her sweet, floral scent. Lexie was snuggled into his side, one leg draped over his and head rested in the crook of his neck. One of her hands found itself on his head, fingers slowly gliding over his buzz cut, an action he found pleasant and calming. They just laid like that without talking, until Lexie felt her eyelids grow heavy.
“Cyar’ika, about earlier”, Rex’s voice broke through the silence.“I appreciate you trying to look out for me, but you can’t give me special treatment”.
“I wasn’t, Rex”, she protested. “I would’ve told Echo, or Fives, or anyone else the same thing. You just lost someone you cared about, you deserve to take a moment to griev-”.
“I’m a soldier, Lexie. I’m used to losing people. I can’t take a break every time one of my brothers dies”, Rex replied matter-of-factly.
Lexie sat up and looked at him dumbfounded. She understood what he meant, why he thought like that, but it was still heart-breaking to hear.
“It felt like you were trying to coddle me”, Rex continued. “I just can’t have you do that”.
“Alright”, she said simply, resting her head back on his shoulder. “I’ll try harder to treat you the same as the others”.
“Thank you”, he placed a kiss on the top of her head.
Lexie fell asleep after a while, a bitter taste in her mouth, wishing things could be different.
She woke up after a few hours, jolted awake by a bad dream. She couldn’t remember what it had been about, but an uneasiness was still surrounding her mind. She had turned while asleep and was now facing the room, with Rex cuddling her from behind. She felt the Captain’s arm wrap around her tighter, pulling her more into his chest.
“Are you okay?”, his low voice asked.
“Yeah, just a bad dream. Sorry I woke you up”, she answered.
“It’s alright”, he said, his voice a little hoarse, kissing the back of her neck.
He held her tightly in his arms, nuzzling her hair with his nose and breathing in her sweet smell. After a while his lips returned to her neck, then trailed up to the spot under her ear that made her giggle, then slowly down to her shoulder. Lexie hummed with pleasure and pressed herself more against him, feeling his hardened length on her ass. The small friction spurred him on, his kisses on her neck becoming more passionate. The arm she was laid on then moved, hand slipping under her tank top, kneading the soft flesh of her breasts.
“Rex, wait”, she breathed.
The Captain stopped, but did not retreat his hand. “What’s wrong, you don’t want to?”
“No, I… Are you sure you want to? you’ve just los-”, she tried to explain, concern present in her voice.
“Cyare”, Rex interrupted, his voice a little strained. “I need to feel something good, something other than…”, he trailed of, letting out a deep breath. “Gedet’ye”, he whispered in her ear.
“You know I’ll always say yes to you”, Lexie replied. She was still worried but she did want to make him feel better.
“Good”, he said with a small chuckle.
Lexie turned her head and he kissed along her jaw and on the corner of her mouth, before his lips found themselves on the sensitive skin of her neck once more, his kisses tuning desperate. She moved her hips, grinding against his hard cock while Rex groaned and pinched her nipples, making her moan.
His left hand hurriedly lowered her pyjama pants just under her ass, then did the same with his blacks, not wanting to waste any second before he could be inside of her. Rex grabbed his cock, aligning it at her entrance and then slowly pressed himself into her. Lexie winced slightly since their rushed foreplay meant that she wasn’t as prepared for him as usually, but once Rex began to slowly move and she adjusted, pleasure overtook her senses.
He still couldn’t believe this was really happening. She was a Jedi, a general, but she was his. It felt surreal that out of everyone, out of all his brother, she had chosen him, that she was breaking the Jedi Code for him, that she was risking everything to be with him. Truthfully, Rex was still half expecting to wake up in the medbay and find out that the past two and a half weeks had been nothing but an injury-induced hallucination.
But she really was there, she was in his arms and she was letting out small murmurs of pleasure as Rex thrust into her, his pace growing quicker and harder. The right arm under her shirt abandoned her breasts and reached higher, wrapping his hand around her throat, an action she immensely enjoyed.
“Do… do that thing cyare”, Rex requested between grunts.
“You like that, Captain?”, she asked in a playful voice.
“Kriff”, he swore at hearing her use his rank, the rhythm of his hips faltering for a couple seconds. “Yes I… I like feeling you inside my head”, Rex admitted.
He resumed his punishing pace, thrusting hard into her. Lexie obliged him, reaching through the Force to find his mind, their thoughts and sensations entangling in each other. Neither of them could really last long after she would do that, overwhelmed by the feeling of the other’s pleasure. His left hand left its place on her hips, finding Lexie’s clit and rubbing fast circles around it, increasing the pleasure both of them were feeling. Lexie reacted by moaning his name and reaching her hand back to scrape her nails over his scalp.
“That’s it, princess, scream my name”, Rex growled, squeezing her throat a little tighter.
“Rex!”, she loudly whimpered as she was pushed over the edge, her orgasm washing over her in powerful waves.
The Captain followed close behind, his release spilling into her with the next thrust. His left hand stopped its assault on her clit and wrapped around her torso, holding her tightly against him, both panting for air. After they caught their breath, Rex slowly slid his softening cock out of her and got up to go to the fresher, returning after a minute with a damp towel and gently cleaning their combined release from between Lexie’s legs. She thanked him, an adoring smile on her lips as she followed every movement with her eyes. She would never get tired of watching how caring he was with her. He went back into the fresher, rinsed the towel and left it to dry on the edge of the sink.
Rex chuckled as he walked back to the bed again, seeing her struggling to keep her eyes open. “Did I tire you out, princess?”.
She huffed an awkward laugh. “You, uhh… you seem to like calling me that”, she said, still unsure how she felt about hearing it.
“What, you don't like it? Cause it felt like you did earlier”, Rex teased.
“No I... I like it but it's… it’s a little weird”, she admitted.
“What do you mean?”, he asked, suddenly a bit nervous. The last thing he wanted was to make her uncomfortable or upset her.
“It's... it's complicated. I don’t really want to get into it right now”, Lexie replied.
“Alright cyare. Whenever you're ready. And I’ll stop using it in the meantime”, he said, running a hand through her hair. Rex felt a pit in his stomach as he could not stop his mind from wondering who from her past had called her that. Maybe that man from Pantora had meant more to her than she had let on? He felt annoyed with himself for being so insecure, why did his brain have to jump to these conclusions?
“No, it’s fine, really. You can keep using it if you want”, she assured him.
Rex’s mouth twitched into a small smile as he continued to caress her hair for a few moments.
“I should probably go back to my cabin”, Rex said, making Lexie whine in protest. “You know it’d be safer; most troopers are asleep right now, less chances to run into anyone”.
“I know. Doesn’t mean I have to like it”, she sighed.
Rex chuckled and leaned to kiss her forehead before getting up and putting his armor back on.
“See you at breakfast in a few hours?”, he asked as he stood in front of the door.
“Of course”, she confirmed with a smile.
Rex moved back to the bed, kissed her, then left her room. Back in his cabin, the Captain cursed himself for being so jealous of someone that he had no reason to worry about. He really couldn’t understand it. He was so confident on the battlefield, sure of himself and of his abilities, and yet when it came to Lexie he easily got insecure. And it’s not like she gave him any reason to worry. She had been open about everything and she had told him that she wanted their relationship, she wanted him. He sighed in frustration, took the armor off again and laid in his cot, but did not really sleep for the rest of the night.
The next three rotations went by quickly. The sector was quite, so Rex spent most of his time working on a battle strategy algorithm together with Fives and Echo. Lexie helped a little too, but she decided to dedicate her time to meditating or to some lightsaber training in order to keep her skills sharp. They sat together during meals, like they usually did, but besides that Lexie and Rex tried to keep their distance from each other, maintaining the appearance of a purely professional relationship. He did sleep in her room during another night cycle and they made plans to find some time for just the two of them once they were back on Coruscant. Lexie planned to take him to Dex’s diner on a date, maybe they could pretend to be two regular people for just a little while there.
Unfortunately, it didn’t seem like that would happen because as soon as Lexie arrived on world, she was summoned to the Jedi Temple. Whatever it was, it appeared to be urgent and she could only assume it would be another covert assignment for her and her ARCs, which made her heart sink, realising she would probably be sent away from Rex for who knows how long.
She couldn’t even talk to him as he was busy ordering some mechanics around, all the way across the other side of the busy hangar of the base. She did get his attention and slightly lifted her comm, signalling that she was being called away. Rex offered her a nod, his expression unknown to her under his helmet, and she responded with a mirthless smile before heading to the landing platform and getting on a shuttle that would quickly take her to the Temple.
Once she got there, she found Anakin waiting for her in the Great Hall. He seemed fully recovered from his near-death experience on Vanqor and, judging by the smirk on his face, it also seemed that he had spoken to Padmé.
“I heard you had a lot of fun on Kaldonya”, he started as soon as she was close enough so they wouldn’t be overheard.
“I did. The Kaldonyans are renowned for their hospitality, there was an event of some sorts for us to attend almost every night”, Lexie replied in a level voice.
“You know very well that is not what I’m talking about”, Anakin continued as they started walking towards the communication center.
“Not really sure what you want me to say about it”, she breathed.
“How serious is it?”, he asked her.
“I… it’s serious. I’m not risking everything for a fling… I’ve never felt this way about anyone before”, she admitted.
“I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you to be careful”, Anakin said in an amused voice, gaining a look from her. “You know I’ll cover for you two whenever you need. Force knows Rex has done that for me on many occasions, time I returned the favour”.
“Thanks, Ani”.
“I’m glad you two finally got together. Took you long enough”, he teased.
“Oh, shut up. You have not suspected it for that long”, she rolled her eyes.
“Are you kidding? I knew he had a thing for you from the moment he stepped in to defend you after your first mission”, Anakin laughed and Lexie looked at him with furrowed eyebrows. “You were more difficult to read, but I started suspecting it after you chose to wear that kama and dye your hair”, he continued, gesturing to her attire.
“I didn’t do that just for him”, she tried to protest quietly.
“Mhm, sure. Anyway, I was certain you liked him back after the siege on Dore’e. You kept hovering around him and I literally found you asleep on his shoulder on two different mornings”.
Lexie raised her eyebrows but did not deny it. She really had spent an excessive amount of time around him during that siege, and slept on his shoulder on more than two nights.
Anakin had to stop his teasing as they reached the room they had been summoned to, but she probably would’ve preferred to keep being subjected to it rather than face what awaited her inside, for the moment the door slid open and she saw the person being projected on the holo-table, Lexie froze.
She knew what the woman’s shaved head and stylized Secca leaves tattoo on her skull meant and she wanted so much to turn back and walk away. But Anakin was right behind her, and he gave her a confused look as he waited for her to move further into the room so that he could also enter.
“First Consul”, she greeted, keeping her voice level and approaching the holo-table. The woman placed her right fist to her heart and bowed her head. she opened her mouth to speak but Lexie lifted a hand, not allowing her to say anything in reply. “What is this about?”, she asked curtly.
“Seccaya is being threatened by the Separatists”, Mace Windu informed her.
“Seccaya is neutral”, Lexie retorted.
“It appears Count Dooku doesn’t want to leave it that way. The First Consul has reached out to us to negotiate joining the Republic. But there is a catch”, Plo Koon continued.
“The Queen requests your presence for final negotiations and for signing the treaty”, the First Consul interjected.
A thousand emotions were swirling in her brain as flashes of memories appeared in her mind. Her mother begging her master to take her away, the hurried goodbyes, watching the planet get smaller and smaller through the transparisteel of his ship, the pain she felt as she realised she would never see her family again.
It all came crashing through so powerfully there was no hiding it and she saw the Council members present, as well as Anakin, turn to give her a curious look. Get it together for kriff’s sake. Lexie closed her eyes and focused on burying everything back down and took a deep breath before speaking again.
“And what would happen if I suggested that another Republic representative should go instead, someone with more diplomatic experience perhaps?”, she asked.
“The Queen will only negotiate with you”, the woman replied, an apologetic look on her face. “She’s expecting you to arrive no longer than within 3 rotations”.
“Well I guess I don’t have much choice in the matter. I will see you soon, Consul”.
“I will let Her Majesty know to expect your arrival”, she said, bowing her head again before the transmission ended.
“Are you up for this, Alexis?”, Plo Koon asked, looking at her.
“I am, Master”, she replied firmly, hands clasped behind her back and fingernails digging into her arm in order to keep her composure.
“For Seccaya, first thing tomorrow you and Skywalker will depart”, Master Yoda said.
“We want the Resolute in orbit during the entire visit, in case Dooku attempts an assault. It’s up to the two of you if you bring troopers on the planet as well, but I would suggest that you do”, Mace Windu added.
“Understood, Masters”, Anakin replied.
“The 104th will be on standby and act as your reinforcements should the Separatists attack”, Plo Koon informed.
Anakin and Lexie bowed their heads then left the room, heading back to the landing platform. Lexie was quiet, trying her hardest to keep the impending panic attack at bay.
“Are you alright?”, Anakin asked her once on the shuttle.
“How did you feel when you returned to Tatooine?”, she grumbled.
Anakin nodded and did not say anything else for the remainder of the short flight to the base.
The next few hours were a bit of a blur for Lexie. She and Anakin briefed Rex on their new mission, instructing the Captain to start the preparations for their departure. They were all concerned about the possibility of having to engage in battle with the Seppies, the siege they had just come from had really done a number on over 50% of their AT-RTs and AT-TEs, and Rex informed his generals that the mechanics had no chance of fixing them before their departure. All they could do was hope that the Separatists would not attack, or if they did, they would not be able to land on the planet for a ground assault.
Lexie then went to the infirmary, needing to go over the inventory for the medbay with Kix, and spent the next couple of hours in there with the medic, filling out requisitions and fast-track forms that could only be approved with the signature of a general. Maker, she hated bureaucracy. But at least it gave her time to sort through her feelings and prepare herself for the next day and by the time they were done and the new crates of med supplies were sent up to the Resolute, Lexie was actually sort of looking forward to seeing her home again. For the most part anyway.
However, she didn’t feel up to going out, no matter how many times Jesse, Fives and Hardcase asked her. They had come help with the crates of supplies and had pestered Lexie about coming to the 79s with them for over half an hour.
“Come on, Lex. When’s the last time we had leave together?”, Jesse asked.
“Yeah, I can’t even remember when you were last at the 79s with us”, Hardcase added.
“It was right after Echo and I came back from ARC training”, Fives piped in with a smirk, making Lexie shoot him a warning look.
“Boys, I’m really not in the mood tonight, sorry. We’re leaving first thing tomorrow and there’s so much left to-”
“There’s nothing left for you to do”, Jesse interrupted, grabbing hold of her shoulders. “Come on, we need you, the Wolfpack is gonna be there and you’re our secret weapon for drinking games”.
“I’ll make it up to you next time we’re all planet-side”, she promised, sliding out of his hold.
“But-”, Hardcase tried to protest.
“She said no, don’t push it vod”, Echo intervened. He’d also come help with the crates and had noticed that something was bothering his vod’ika.
“Alright”, Fives said with an exaggerated sigh. “But next time we’re not taking no for an answer”. Lexie rolled her eyes.
“Well, let’s go then. You’re done here Kix, yeah?”, Jesse said and the medic nodded.
“I’m staying back too, keep her company. You guys have fun”, Echo said, prompting annoyed groans from the others.
“Echo, come on”, Fives groaned.
“No, I’m fine. You go and enjoy a night out”, she tried to decline. “I need someone responsible to bring them back early. We ship out at-”
“0900 hours, we know”, Fives cut in. “I can be the responsible one”, he said, placing his hands on his hips and straightening.
“You?”, Kix asked and burst out laughing.
“Last time we were on Coruscant overnight, Commander Fox commed me at 4 in the morning to come get you from the Corries’ lockup”, Lexie retorted, crossing her arms over her chest and giving him a pointed look.
“Hey, that was only because Rex was pissed off with me. Fox commed him first but he told him to leave me there for the whole 24 hours”, he defended himself.
“Did you find out why Rex was so angry with you, vod?”, Hardcase asked.
“No, but he’s over it now, so no one bring it up and remind him!”, Fives quickly said, shooting Lexie an apologetic look.
“I’m going to the 79s with them, Lexie, don’t worry”, Kix assured her. “I’ll bring them back no later than midnight”.
She thanked the medic and wished the other a fun night. Lexie was actually glad Echo was staying behind. The two of them started walking towards the clones’ break room, but Lexie remembered there was a report she still had to write and told Echo she’ll meet him there after grabbing her datapad from her office.
As she walked down the corridor of the command level, she realised she really should talk to Rex before getting to Seccaya, so she headed to his office. Her anxiety started to rise as she approached the door. She hadn’t technically lied to him, she just omitted a piece of information about her childhood. A pretty big piece. Her hand hovered in front of the buzzer as she briefly wondered how he would react to her confession.
Only Rex wasn’t alone. As she walked into his office, Lexie found Commander Wolffe leaning on the wall next to the window, while the Captain was sat behind his desk, busy with some flimsiwork.
“General”, Wolffe dryly saluted after quickly standing at attention.
Rex followed his example, making her chuckle. He wouldn’t be this formal if it was just the two of them.
“Commander. Captain”, she acknowledged. “Have uhh… have you been briefed on our mission, Commander?”.
“I have, Sir. I assure you my men are ready to reinforce you, should the need arise”, Wolffe replied matter-of-factly.
“That’s good to hear, Commander”, she said, clasping her hands behind her back.
She saw the corner of Rex’s mouth briefly twitch into a smile. He could obviously tell how unsure she was about how to interact with his brother. Lexie had only met Wolffe once, after the 104th rescued the 501st from Felucia, months ago. She’d heard a lot about him from Rex, but otherwise she didn’t actually know him. An awkward silence settled in the room as Lexie had no idea how to continue the conversation. That scar on his face really did make him seem so intimidating...
“Are you going to the 79s with the boys, General?”, Rex came to her rescue. “We were just about to leave ourselves”.
“No, Captain. I’m not feeling it tonight. Gonna hang back with Echo. But the others have already left, you’ll find them there”, she replied.
The expression on Rex’s face immediately turned into one of concern. “Are you alright? Do you need me to stay here and help you with anything?”.
She didn’t miss the curious look that Wolffe shot the Captain. “No, no. I’m fine, don’t worry. You go enjoy your night, Captain”.
“Not sure how much we’ll enjoy it”, Wolffe said bitterly.
“We’re meeting Fox, Neyo and Bacara, having a drink in Ponds’ honour”, Rex explained. “Although maybe we should wait until Cody, Gree and Bly are also on world”.
“Who knows when that’s gonna happen, vod’ika”, Wolffe interjected.
“Commander Wolffe is right. You should take any opportunity you can. I’ll let you get going then”, Lexie said with a small smile. “See you at breakfast, Captain?”.
“Of course, Sir”, Rex nodded and watched as she walked through the door, concern still present in his mind. She really must be so worried about returning to Seccaya, Rex thought, and was really tempted to cancel his plans and stay back with her. He was so worried, he did not realise he was still staring at the door until he felt Wolffe swing an arm across his shoulders.
“Fox told me you have it bad for her, but I didn’t think it was true”, he teased.
“Kriff off, vod”, Rex shoved his arm away.
“You need to snap out of it, Rex’ika. She’s a Jedi, she’ll never let herself look your way”, Wolffe cautioned, genuinely concerned for his little brother.
Rex cleared his throat. “I’m done with the report, we should leave”, he changed the subject.
Wolffe huffed a laugh and shook his head but did not press the mater any further… that is until they got to the 79s where he immediately informed Fox, Neyo and Bacara about their vod’ika’s eagerness to help his general. All four commanders then ganged up to tease Rex, grateful to have something to keep their minds occupied for a little while from the reason they had all met up that night.
Rex didn’t see Lexie again that night. He had messaged her before he left from the 79s, asking her how her night had been and she told him that she and Echo had played holo-darts and Sabacc in the common room with Hawk and some of the other pilots that did not go to the cantina. Ahsoka had also dropped by apparently, so it had turned out to be quite a little party back at the barracks as well.
Rex had wanted to ask if he could come to her quarters once he got back to the base, he had even typed the message, but his insecurities forcefully returned. They had just spent two weeks sleeping together every single night back on Kaldonya and as much as he wanted to always be near her, he worried he would scare her away if he was too clingy. Rex was a perceptive man and had noticed the few instances where she seemed to get overwhelmed while they were together so he did not want to push his luck.
They sat next to each other at breakfast the next morning and listened to Fives and Jesse’s account of their night and then they were on the same shuttle that took them up to the Resolute. But after that Rex lost track of her when General Skywalker asked him to help with Ahsoka’s lightsaber training, having a couple hours to kill in hyperspace.
Once the training was done, and they were only minutes away from coming out of hyperspace, Rex went to look for her, and found Lexie sat on a crate in a more hidden part of the hangar, obstructed from view by the large crates deposited around. His eyebrows frowned in concern as he approached and noticed how worried she seemed. He also noted that she was wearing her burgundy robes again, and was absentmindedly fiddling with the sleeves. She looked up as he stopped in front of her and offered him a small smile.
“Hi”, she said half-heartedly.
“Hey, are you alright?”, he asked, leaning next to her on the crate and placing his helmet on the floor at his feet.
“Yeah, just not really looking forward to everything”, she answered with a sigh.
“I can imagine. It's probably not easy to return home after so long. And with the circumstances behind why you had to leave…”, Rex mused.
A nervous laugh escaped her lips. “Yeah, but weirdly enough that's not what I'm dreading”.
“What do you mean?”, he turned to face her.
“Uhm, what I am dreading the most is all the osik I'll get from Fives and the others after everyone learns my background”, she admitted.
“I'm confused, what background?”, Rex’s eyebrows furrowed.
“Uhm... remember when I told you about my childhood? About my mother being influential on Seccaya?”, she started, unsure how exactly to tell him.
“Yeah”, he said, remembering the conversation they had on Maridun.
“That uhm... that might have been an understatement…”. Lexie closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “You see, my… uhh… my mother was Queen Axanna”.
“Queen Axanna? The Queen of Seccaya? But that would make you the...”, he trailed off.
“Princess? Yeah”, she answered with a mirthless laugh.
Rex's brain short-circuited. The fact that he'd been sleeping with his general, with his Jedi, had been difficult enough to wrap his head around as it was. But a princess? He could not understand how the hell she had feelings for him.
“You're a-a princess? T-The crown princess?”, his eyes were wide as he was trying to process what he just heard.
“Well I'm not really the crown princess anymore. When my aunt took the throne, Anara automatically became the next in line. Then it's Myria and only then it would be me if they didn’t have any daughters, but I'm a Jedi now so I couldn't really rule anyway”, Lexie explained.
“You're a princess?”, Rex repeated, still unable to fully process the information.
“Yeah… it’s not really that big of a deal-”
“Not a big deal? Lexie that is… that is just…”, Rex jumped up from the crate, looking at her in disbelief. “That changes things…”.
The confusion on Lexie’s face morphed into concern and she got up to stand in front of the Captain. “Rex, it doesn’t change anything. Certainly not my feelings for you”.
She looked around, making sure nobody could see them before taking his hand in hers and squeezing it reassuringly. Rex let out the breath he did not realise he was holding and lowered his forehead to hers. His mind was still going at a hundred thoughts a second, but being this close to her, breathing in sync, it was helping him ground himself. The two of them stayed like that for a few moments, until a loud sound signalled that the cruiser was out of hyperspace.
“We should go before they start looking for us”, Rex whispered.
“Yeah”, Lexie agreed and pulled away from him. She moved to leave before hesitating and looking back at him. She could still sense his confusion and anxiety. “We’ll talk more about this later. Stay close to me? Once we’re on the surface? I… I’ll need you close to me”.
“Of course, cyare”, he replied with a small smile.
Lexie returned the smile before walking away, heading for the center of the hangar where the LAAT that would take them to the surface was. Rex picked up his helmet, then waited a minute before heading there a well.
What hurts?
Rex x (jedi?) male reader hurt/comfort
*Summary- After Rex gets sent to Umbara he is immedently sent out to Zygerria. Before he geta to come home to you. Before he can tell you he's okay.*
**Proffesor's note- So this was just suppost to be a rambly talk but i got im my feels, its messy, not proof read and all in all not the best. Its my first fic and i like it so? Also i headcannon that Rex, Kix, Jesse, and Hardcase are batchmates.
!WARNINGS! Injury, talk of injury, major character death(not you or rex) crying, mention of slavery, greif, alcohol and angst.
**Umbara broke him mentally, Zygerria broke him physically; he still came home to you.**
Almost a month. Thats how long you went without talking to your riduur. No "I love you's" no "i miss you's" no "im okay's". You try to keep your morral up. You try not to cry yourself to sleep, to harass the counsal for imfomation, but you were scared. You throw yourself into anything to distract yourself. You clean the appartment untill its so tidy Mace Windu would have tea there. You work to the point of passing out on the sofa in nothing but you boxers and one of Rex's shirt, a half empty bottle of wine on the table along with your dead data pad.
One day your comfortably sitting at the kitchen table on your personal dada pad when you get a message. Its from Kix, it reads "Have you come to see the captain yet?" You furrow your brows confused and type out an answer "what?" He responds "the captain got back last night, we're discharging him today. You didnt know?"
Your heart and chest turn a mix between burning hot and freezing cold as you slip your jacket and boots on and run out of your appartment. You dont live far from the base on Coruscant so getting to the clone hospital dosn't take long. Jesse is waiting for you and he talks with you but your brain dosent prossess much just enjoying the soft comfort of being around family. You turn cold and stop as you approch the ICU. "Jesse?" He stop and turns to you and for the first time today you notice the sad look the dark circles under his eyes. You want to ask whats wrong but Rex if your first priority. "Yes vod?" He answers "How bad? do i-" he cuts you off "Don't overthink this. Go see your riduur." You nod and follow him. All the way down the halls, you feel a prick of anger at how shitty the clone hospital is compared to the nat-born one but you shove it away as Jesse stops and points to the door. "Go on." He urges "Me and Kix are here if you need us." If you wernt so scared you might have asked about Hardcase. The 3 of them are ussauly inseparble, Rex's closest brothers. You push open the door and see him. He has burn marks on his neck and wrists and some slashes on his shoulders. You step in more. "Rex?" He looks at you and you cant tell if he is worried or releved "Cyre'ika.." he responds, his voice is a bit scratchy but he sounds the same, strong, but you can here the twinge of pain under it. "What happened? I thought-" You start "-I know." He cuts you off. "Im here. Im alive, just- tired." He sighs "I bet." You scoff and he laughs but coughs a bit. *stars you missed his laugh.* you take a step closer and he reaches for your hand. "Your okay?" You ask sofly as you take it "Not really. But im better now that im home." You sigh and touch his face "Whats wrong?" You ask. "What isn't?" He responds a bit harshly "Rex." You warn softly "Im sorry just- can you get Kix so we can go home?" You nod and before you know it youre opening the door of your appartment. Rex, sits on the sofa and lets out a sigh but it sounds like a whince. You smile "Do you wanna stay on the sofa or come to bed?" "I want...you." he mumbels "Then you should come to bed." You tease offering him a hand. He takes it and follows you sitting on the edge of the bed. "House looks nice." He looks up at you while you get him some clean clothes. "Your fault." You hand him the clothes and he pauses. "Whats wrong?" You ask concerned. "I have scars." You scoff "I know that ive been with you long enough-" he cuts you off again "new ones." You sigh softly and look at him "im not scared now anymore then i was the first time i saw you shirtless." You smile and press your forhead to his "would you like me to leave?" "No." He says softly "just dont get scared." "I wont." You say determened. He was right he has a lot of new scars, a few blaster marks and scuffs but the ones that scare you are the whip marks and the burns on his neck that look like the marking of slave binders. He clearly dosent want to talk about it now so he instead gets dressed and lays down. You quickly follow but stay sitting up, he moves his head in your lap and wraps his arms around your waist then lets out a soft shiver "Cold?" You ask "No." "Whats wrong?"
Its a long pause "A lot." "Anything i need to know now?" He whinces and you can see the tears forming in his eyes "What hurts" you softly brush your fingers over his buzz, its grown out a bit now; it looks nice. "My heart." you dont like that answer
"Sweetheart...Hardcase is dead." Your fingers stop and your stomach turns "Im sorry- i didn't want to tell you i couldnt tell you- Jesse and-and Kix-" he is trembeling now, his whole body. He tries to pull himself closer but his body is in to much pain to let him. You take a shuttering breath and move your hand to his back "And youre not. Youre here with me. Youre alive and s-safe." You voice cracks and you feel tears well in your eyes you both sit there and cry for a while, safe in your home, together. After sometime the sobs stop and exaustion sets in, you lay down still holding him close. "We'll have Jesse and Kix over tomorrow. Ill take time off work. So will you three-" you start "Darling you know we cant-" "Ill make it happen." You say firmly. "You lost someone you have held close for most of your life. You get to take time to mourn that. You all do.
“It’s a lovely day, wouldn’t you agree, Commander?” You muse, enjoying the sun's warm caress on your skin. Your question is directed to Clone Commander Fox, who trails a few steps behind you as you stroll through the Senate Gardens.
As a Senator, moments of peace and solitude are rare and precious and for you, it’s best spent admiring the diverse plant life. Though Commander Fox, your assigned protector, doesn’t seem to share your enthusiasm.
“It is, ma’am,” he replies curtly, his lack of enthusiasm evident. You decide not to press him and continue your walk with a playful roll of your eyes.
Pausing by a bush adorned with tiny white flowers, you crouch carefully to avoid snagging your regal, albeit cumbersome, skirt. “These are some of my favorites,” you say as Fox halts behind you. “Leucanthemum Vulgare.”
“I’m not familiar with it, ma’am,” he responds, surprising you. Fox rarely speaks unless spoken to, but perhaps after weeks of close quarters, he feels inclined to converse back.
“Just daisies,” you chuckle, standing again. You notice Fox instinctively reaching out to assist you, only to quickly tuck his hands behind his back when you were fine.
Continuing your walk, your feet eventually tire, and you opt to sit on a nearby bench while Fox stands awkwardly beside you. “You can sit with me, Commander,” you suggest, patting the space next to you.
“I appreciate the offer, but I must remain vigilant to protect you,” he replies, giving you a nod and you can’t help but wonder what expression lies behind his helmet.
“I doubt anyone will attack me here,” you say, though Fox’s squared shoulders suggest otherwise. “...or do you know something I don’t?”
He clears his throat and gazes down at you, his eyes meeting yours through the visor. “All Senators are at risk, ma’am. However… your advocacy for Clone rights has made you a target in certain political circles.”
You shrug. “If they want to shoot me for it, so be it.”
“Ma’am, please don’t say that,” Fox winces, looking away and shaking his head. He seems to want to speak freely, but refrains.
“Thank you for protecting me,” you say gently, shifting your gaze to the vibrant flowers that soothe your nerves. “I can’t think of another Clone I’d rather have by my side to appreciate these gardens.”
Fox tenses beside you. “Y-you’re welcome,” he stammers, a rare but endearing lapse in his typical stoicism.
You both settle into a peaceful silence, though you wondered how Fox is faring. Often, you ponder whether he enjoys these quiet moments with you or would rather be back in his office. You recall the amusing sight of his brothers stuffing countless empty caf cups into a corner when you first visited him, and the strain in his voice and stiff body language betrayed his embarrassment over the discovery of his caf addiction.
You just hoped it wasn’t because he was exhausted.
“So,” you begin, snapping out of your worried thoughts, “you’ve walked with me in these gardens plenty of times now, Commander. Is there any particular plant, flower, or tree you like?”
Fox turns his head towards you, tilting it slightly, which you find unexpectedly adorable and you scold yourself mentally for thinking so.
“I’m afraid my answer will bore you.”
You give a wry smile. “I’m sorry, you probably have more important things to be doing, I’m sure.”
“Taking care of you is the most important thing to me,” he says almost sternly. The way he says it sounds almost desperate, not just dutiful. Realising this, he adds, “as it is my current job.”
Clearing your throat, you turn your gaze away, hoping he doesn’t notice the tips of your ears burning with a blush. “I see.”
He nods simply, but after a moment, he sighs slightly. “There is, uh, one flower that catches my eye every time we come here actually.”
You look back at him, surprised. “Really? Which one?”
“It’s over there in the corner to the right.” He nods in the direction, and you stand, asking him to show you.
He hesitates for a moment, unsure if you’re serious. But judging by your smile—something he has grown rather fond of—he nods and leads the way.
You stop in front of a flower bed filled with a mix of pink, purple, white, and red flowers—tall and breathtaking, and quite familiar to you.
“I believe these are Digitalis purpurea,” you say, leaning forward to inhale their delicate fragrance with a soft smile. “I can see why you like them, come to think of it.”
He nods slightly, pleased to have a name for the flower, even if he wasn't going to try to pronounce it. “Why’s that?”
“Well,” you say with a smirk as you turn to him, “it’s also more commonly known as ‘Foxglove.’”
“Oh, really?” he asks, genuinely curious, and you nod in confirmation.
“Quite the coincidence, don't you think?” you add, your eyes sparkling with amusement.
Fox seems taken aback, the irony not lost on him. “Yes, quite the coincidence indeed.” His voice is softer, and there's a hint of a smile in his tone that you wholeheartedly wish you could see.
Fox admires the flowers once more before his eyes drift to the ground where a small bunch had been either knocked or blown off. He bends down and picks them up, then without thinking, holds them out to you. “Would you like these?”
Your mouth gapes open slightly, looking at the outstretched flowers and then at him. “Oh,” you say pleasantly, reaching out and taking hold of the slightly battered and broken stems, “thank you, Commander.”
But you notice that he doesn’t let go at first, instead focusing on the way your fingers brush against his. You feel your heart skip a beat as you both look at each other, neither of you willing to let go. This had to stop. This was completely inappropriate. But yet…
“Senator, Commander Fox.” A voice interrupts you both, and you almost gasp as you quickly let go of the flowers and turn to see who has interrupted this—if you could even call it—moment.
“Thorn,” Fox acknowledges, his attempt to sound composed betrayed by the heavy rise and fall of his chest.
“You are both needed inside. I did try to comm you, but I, uh, must’ve not gotten the signal.” Thorn's tone carries a hint of amusement, and you feel a rush of nervousness and fluster. Did Fox feel the same awkwardness you did?
You glance at Fox, who gives a curt nod to Thorn. “Understood. We’ll head there immediately.”
As you walk back towards the Senate building, you can't help but replay the moment in your mind. The gentle brush of his fingers against yours, the intensity of his gaze behind his visor—it was so unlike the stoic Commander you had come to know.
“Thank you, Commander,” you say softly once the two of you were alone again, glancing at the flowers in your hand. “For the flowers.”
Fox nods, his voice steady but tone also softer than usual. “You’re welcome.”
Later that day, you receive word that you are needed on a different planet for urgent Senate business. As you prepare to leave, you find yourself thinking about Fox and the moment you shared in the garden. An idea forms in your mind, and you act on it impulsively.
Before you depart, you make your way to Fox’s office. It's empty, as he's likely out on duty. You place the flowers on his desk, arranging them neatly. Beside the flowers, you leave a small note:
‘Hopefully you will protect these like you protected me until I come back, Fox.’
And signed with your name. Not just Senator.
With one last glance around the room, amused to see his caf cups still there, you quietly slip out.
When Fox returned to his office that evening, confused with the days events and how he was feeling about you, he never realised he would experience missing someone. Yet as he reads the note you left and looks at the flowers, he does something strange. He pushes his steaming caf to the side and instead, lets the memory of you and the scent of the Foxgloves relax him.
He would not tell the others, but he could not wait for another stroll in the gardens with you.
Masterlist is pinned 😊
Darkness on Umbara Chp.8 (Rex x Reader)
Chapter 7. Chapter 9.
Moment to Breathe
cw: Rex x Reader, Reader is a medic, incorrect military procedure, graphic descriptions of injuries, blood, swearing, death and battle, Spoilers for the Umbara Arc, Pong Krell is an asshole, reader insert, names of non-canon dead clones, Mentions of breakdowns, transwoman clone, Brief mention of inhibitor chips, reader is gender neutral, no use of (Y/N), if i miss a tag LMK
Minors DNI
In the end, you had to be sedated.
When Rex was called to continue the fight at the airbase with the reinforcements, you panicked so badly Kix had to inject you to calm you down.
Luckily, your mind wasn’t clouded and you still had your wits about you. You were still able to treat the wounded, but you didn’t miss how Jesse opted to ‘guard’ you and Kix as you managed to transfer all the wounded into the airbase’s medical facility.
It was clear he wanted to keep an eye on you since Rex couldn’t. And, truthfully, this was the first time you’d had such a breakdown in front of the men. Kix had his own, when Tup tackled him, so the trooper most likely thought both medics of the 501st were unstable.
Even if you were, you did your jobs.
The fight was chaotic as the Umbarans battled for their facility. Luckily, with both Jesse and Kix, you got every injured trooper into the safety of the medical bay before the fighting was even done.
They didn’t have bacta tanks, but they had much needed supplies you used to save everyone you could. Not nearly enough for everyone if Krell decided to pull another suicide mission, but enough to help those that needed it right now.
Fyre. Vim. Oz. Ringo. North. Gabe. Tro. Tess. Zeb. Sante. Reign. Pheon. Dawn. Nim. Jamie. Hek. Recon. Mav. Zeo. Fisher. Hinge. Trident. Iron. Mesh. Steele. Bruno. Zeke. Jumper. Aura. Dia. Silk.
By the time Krell had joined the soldiers, you and Kix hadn’t lost anyone else. You got the troopers stable, laying on cots, and sleeping as peacefully as they could. Those who didn’t require life sustaining equipment were sent to the barracks of the airbase to rest.
You and Kix stepped outside once you both were done with the wounded. Jesse had been keeping a steady guard by the door, preventing anyone uninjured from coming inside and disturbing you.
The airbase belonged to the 501st.
Umbarans who hadn’t died fighting, were led to prison cells somewhere else within the base. Several squads were already walking around, inspecting the Umbaran weaponry. A few were going through crates of supplies, such as weapons and ammo.
You remained silent as you followed Kix and Jesse through the base. The three of you met up with Rex, Fives and Hardcase. There was pride in your lover’s eyes as he spoke to the heroic pilots, “despite Hardcase’s flying, you two saved us all.”
Hardcase sounded as proud and energized as always, “It wasn’t so tough.”
“You sure?” Jesse took off his helmet with a smirk, “You looked a little green when you came out of that fighter.” He teased the hyperactive trooper. All of them were in a good mood, finding the shred of happiness after such casualties.
You wished you could feel the same pride and happiness. But your mental state, as well as the sedatives in your blood prevented it.
“Mesh’la,” Rex turned to you, “Are you ok?”
“No losses since we took the airbase.” you responded, blatantly ignoring his question about you, “The seriously injured are stable and resting in the med bay.”
“That's not-.”
“Captain,” His words were loudly cut off by Krell. The temporary General stomped towards you all, looking as displeased as ever. Appo was tailing him along with another trooper, “Report, what is our situation?”
The 501st captain stepped forward, “General, we have taken the base and cut off enemy supply lines to the capital.” His back was straight, standing at attention, as did the others.
You…remained behind Fives, staying out of the Jedi’s line of sight. If Krell turned his ire to you, you couldn’t promise you wouldn’t do something to get yourself court-martialed.
The besliska raised a large hand and rubbed his chin, “Luck has smiled on you today, Captain.” His tone sounded smug, “Consider yourself fortunate.”
“It wasn't all luck sir,” Rex kept calm and steady, not letting Krell get to him, “A lot of men died to take this base.”
Too many good men. You thought blankly. A part of you felt hollow and empty as the captain mentioned the lost souls.
The General raised his hands, and looked at the dark sky, “A price for such victory.” He looked back down and crossed two of his four arms, “Perhaps you’ll realize this.”
You didn’t miss Rex’s fist clenching in rage. Your lover’s fury was a rare sight. But dammit, Krell was doing a good job at bringing it out. Instead of lashing out however, he took a breath and lowered his head.
The Jedi turned and began to walk away, “Dismissed.”
You and Fives stepped forward. You placed your hand on Rex’s shoulder as the ARC trooper grumbled, “He’s the one who will never realize.”
You remained silent, only squeezing Rex’s shoulder before letting go. You turned and began to walk back to the medical bay, unable to be around anyone right now.
At least those in the medical facility were unconscious.
Once the doors opened, you were surprised to see a trooper. Hana, had been waiting for you, holding a bloody wrist, “Sorry to bother, Doc. One of the bastards were hiding and jumped me.”
You motioned for the trooper to sit down on an open cot, “Are sutures alright?” You wanted to save bandages and bacta. Just in case Krell tried to kill anyone else.
Hana nodded, resting the injury on one of the small medical cabinets that were placed next to every bed. You pulled a chair, set the suture kit down, and immediately got to work.
During your stitching, you took notice of distinguishable features, since this was the first time you’ve seen the trooper without a helmet. White nail polish, small studs for earrings, hair pulled back into a bun, indicating length longer than ‘military standard’.
You didn’t want to assume, but it wasn’t unheard of for there to be sisters among the troopers.
“Hana.” you spoke softly, “I like your nails. And your earrings.” It was a small push, one to ask the question without assuming.
Hana’s surprised look then relieved smile told you all you needed to know. She responded quietly, “I know it's not regulation, but…”
“Who cares about regulation?” You returned her smile, noticing that she also wore waterproof mascara, “If it's what you want, then no one should stop you.” Your suturing was almost done.
Hana nodded, looking at her nails on the hand you weren’t stitching up. Impressively, they weren’t chipped, “I might go blue, next time.” She murmured, “so I keep matching the 501st.”
“Why not paint one hand blue and the other white?” You suggested, deciding to use a patch to cover the sutures, “Something unique.”
It was nice, having a conversation that wasn’t about Umbara, injuries, the soldiers lost or Krell. It was just…about nail polish. A good distraction. Something to get your mind off your earlier breakdown.
By the time you were done, she settled on a pattern of half blue and half white. She walked out of the clinic, with a stitched up wrist and small smile. Maybe she needed the mental distraction of the doom and death as well.
Despite losing so many…at least you made Hana feel better.
You sighed, putting your face in your hands as soon as the door was closed. You basked in the small clicks and beeps of machines monitoring the men's status, taking just a few minutes to breathe. After a second, you heard a shift.
One of the unconscious troopers turned onto his side to get more comfortable. You inspected the medical equipment next to his bed to check his status. He was alive and healing.
All of them were alive.
The doors opened again, and you looked up. Rex was standing there, helmet off and looking at you with both love and worry in his beautiful eyes, “May I…come in?” He asked quietly, as if not to wake the men.
“You don't have to ask, you know.” you responded, giving him a small, tired smile. It was endearing, how he’d become shy when you two were in private.
He walked over to you and brushed his hand over your cheek, “How’s your arm?” the captain asked, looking at the bandages you still wore. The bacta soaked gauze were doing their job, as the wound pulsed and throbbed in pain, indicating healing. Whether all your muscles would return remains to be seen, but at least the nerves and veins were being repaired.
“It’s getting better.” you answered, reaching up to hold his face in your hand. Your eyes narrowed, “You need rest.”
“We all do.” Rex mumbled, closing his eyes and leaning his face into your palm. He breathed deeply before opening his eyes to look at you, “Mesh’la,” His term of endearment for you slipped from his lips, “You’ve saved so many of my brothers.”
That's why he was here. Because of your earlier breakdown.
“I’m alright now, Rex.” you gently reassured him, “I…was panicked. After the battle with the tanks, and getting Silk killed, I was terrified I’d lose you.”
Rex leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on your forehead. One of his hands rested at your hip, holding you close, “Silk’s death wasn’t your fault, none of the losses are your fault,” his tone was so soft, so gentle, “You have saved so many of us, not just on Umbara, but on every planet we’ve been to. Every battle, every fight…you’ve done so much. For all of us.”
“I want to do more,” you responded, “I don’t want you to lose any more of your brothers…I know it's war, but…”
He sighed, “We are clones. We were made to fight for the Republic. Die for the Republic, if the situation calls for it.” His eyes held a certain sadness to it, “We are meant to be expendable.”
“Not to me.” your voice was resolute. He wasn’t expendable. No clone was expendable.
Rex looked at you like you were the moon and stars themselves. He pulled you closer, kissing you passionately on the lips. Your chest met his armor, and he leaned into you, “Ni kar'tayl gar darasuum…” he murmured when you broke away, “Gar cuyir ner kar'ta bal runi…” His forehead was against yours, holding you so tenderly.
“Bal ni kar'tayl gar darasuum,” you whispered back, taking in his warmth and love, “Gar cuyir ner oyay bal narser…”
He kissed you again, only pulling away when one of the unconscious soldiers moved in his sleep.
“I have to find Krell,” he mumbled, looking at you mournfully, “He may have orders…”
“Go, be the 501st captain, cyare.” you gave him a peck on the cheek, “Good luck dealing with him.”
He sighed and stepped back, leaving the medical bay.
You watched him go before checking on all of them men. They were stable still, and luckily, a few were in a good enough state to wake up. A majority of them responded well to your neuro-check. Despite the good response from them, you wanted to keep the soldiers who sustained hits to the head in the med bay.
However, there was an ARF trooper, Rush, who was still slurring his words. It was a terrible blow to the head he had sustained taking the airbase. Putting him back under the effects of sedatives and painkillers, you wanted to move on to everyone else. But…
Well, the Umbarans were technologically advanced. The life support and monitoring systems were intergalactic basics. All from the same base that you were trained with. However, they had systems and machines you had never seen before. You tried to use some of the more heavy duty equipment, but had no luck.
One of them was a scanner, that you could tell. It resembled a datapad, but clearly had the technology and structure of the Umbarans. The screen had values and data that exceeded most medical equipment in the Republic. Your fingers toyed with it, trying to get the thing to work in your favor. Such a small but powerful scanner would be useful.
Your shoulders slumped just as the med bay doors opened again, “Holy fuck you’re still awake!?” Kix’s eyes were wide, staring at you. His helmet was off and he seemed…somewhat refreshed. He probably got something to eat and took a power nap after Krell dismissed everyone.
“Yea, there's still a lot to do.” you looked at him, holding the scanner, “Plus, I’m trying to crack some of this equipment.”
“The hardware and programming isn’t anything we’ve seen before.” The medic looked over your shoulder to see the tablet in your hands, “Oh? What's this?”
“I think it's a hand-held full body scanner. More powerful than anything in the Republic.” you answered, “I want it. But I can’t get the damn program to behave.”
He stepped back, one hand on his hip, “Jesse and Fives are in the east hangar playing with some of their weapons,” Kix gave you a soft smile, “I’ll keep an eye on the guys here, take a break.”
You couldn’t help but return his smile. It was clear the both of you had hit your limits with the losses. But now, after some rest, your spirits were higher.
After you gave an overview of each of the injured troopers, you left the medical bay and went to the hagar. The airbase was more organized now. Supplies were being moved, weapons were being inspected, and patrols were established. The 501st was very efficient.
The hagar wasn't so organized but definitely had more energy. Several soldiers were on floating platforms, inspecting suspended starships. Others were working on the ships themselves, looking at the mechanics and wiring. It didn’t take you long to find Fives and Jesse.
The ARC trooper was with Tup, having pried off a metal sheet from the ship he piloted before. The two of them were discussing something, most likely the controls or mechanics, as they inspected the inner workings of the Umbaran weapon.
Dogma was seated nearby, cleaning his rifle while Jesse was standing at a consol, brow furrowed. He was hard at work attempting to crack the enemy hardware.
You approached, stepping in front of the console, “Hey Jesse,” Your voice was quiet, not wanting to distract the others, or wake up Hardcase who was asleep on the floor, leaning against the ship Tup and Fives worked on, “Are you busy?”
The senior trooper perked up, “Depends,” He leaned forward with a glint in his eye, “I can always make time for you.” you snorted when he winked.
Dogma scoffed, “That is inappropriate.”
You rolled your eyes, but handed Jesse the tablet, “Kix told me you were working on the Umbaran hardware, I was hoping you could help me crack this thing.”
He raised a brow and took it, “What is it?”
“Some kind of scanner, I think.” you answered, sitting down next to Dogma, “But more powerful than anything in the Republic.”
“Might be easier than this fucking thing.” He smacked the console, “Give me a few minutes and I'll-.”
There was a yelp behind you and Fives tumbled off the starship, hitting the ground. The noise woke Hardcase with a jerk, who sat up and looked around confused.
“I told you not to do that,” Tup looked at the ARC trooper's pathetic form on the floor, “I warned you that if you touched the wire, it would shock you.”
“I know, I know.” Fives huffed and got to his feet and dusted himself off, “Fucking Umbarans and their…”
“I cracked the hardware,” Jesse raised the tablet, “It says Fives doesn't have a brain.”
“Son of a-”
You laughed softly alongside Tup who had paused his toying with the machine. Once you stepped up to the console, hand open, Jesse looked at you, “Oh, sorry. I actually didn't. I just saw an opportunity.” He chuckled.
Fives huffed and swiped the Umbara gadget from him, “Give me that. I’ll figure this out.”
“What's going on?” Hardcase slurred from the floor.
“Nothing, go to the barracks and get some sleep.” Dogma mumbled, keeping his eyes down to continue cleaning his weapon.
Hardcase looked around before he silently nodded and stood up, “Sleep well, buddy.” You bid him farewell as he stumbled out of the hangar. A part of you felt jealous at his ability to sleep right now.
You…didn’t think you could. Not until all of this was done.
Tup spoke your name softly, earning your attention, “Are…you and Kix ok?”
Oh, he’s so sweet. Tup reminded you of a shiny fresh off Kamino, overly respectful, overly polite and overly shy. You hoped that with more experience, he’d break out of the shell, learn that you could be a friend, not just his doctor.
You gave him a tired yet genuine smile, “We are, just needed some rest and time to breathe.”
The trooper nodded before looking over at Dogma, “Hey, Dogma, isn’t there something you need to tell our good doctor?”
The other trooper flinched before he nodded, “Listen, Doc…I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said those things on the field.” His dark brown eyes were filled with clear sorrow and regret. His apology surprised you, but you appreciated it nonetheless.
“How’s your jaw?” You asked, crossing your arms.
“Hardcase has a strong right hook.” He mumbled, looking away ashamed, “But it's fine…”
With a sigh you approached and put a hand on his shoulder, “It's not the worst that's been said to me.” you wanted to laugh at his surprised look but remained calm, “Apology accepted.”
He slumped his shoulders and let out a relieved sigh.
“Got it!” Fives practically cheered, causing a trooper on a platform to visibly jump. The ARC trooper gave the scanner to you quickly before he dashed to Jesse’s side to help him with the console.
You looked over the gadget and began to toy with it silently. After a few minutes, the tablet responded to your touch easily. Wordlessly you stood and raised it to Dogma.
After a press on the screen, a fan of light went over the confused trooper. He paused, looking at you, “Doc…?”
The screen blinked, and on it, was an outline of his body. Next to it were values.
Blood pressure. Heart rate. Blood count. Adrenal levels. Liver enzymes. Nerve response time. Bone density. Hours of sleep.
All important values in terms of health and wellbeing. On the outline there were indicators and when you pressed the screen, there was more information. You pressed the area of his jaw, exactly were Hardcase had clocked him.
“Are you sore where Hardcase hit you?” you asked him and he nodded. After his answer, you perked up happily, knowing the scanner worked. However, there was another indicator in his head.
When you pressed it, the information was…off.
To test it, you scanned Fives, only to get the same result. Then Jesse, then Tup. All of them had the same result.
Kiss It Better
Summary: You run a low cost clinic on the lower levels, and Jesse is one of your most regular, and most frustrating, patients.
Pairing: ARC Trooper Jesse x Reader
Word Count: 1373
Prompt: a kiss after treating a wound
Warning: None
A/N: Jesse Fluff for the Jesse Girls (gn). Will I ever be able to write fluff without backstory...prolly not, lol. The Lore is important to me.
Divider by Saradika
When your parents sent you to medical school, they had high hopes for you. They hoped that one day you would become rich and you would be able, and willing, to take care of them and your siblings, so none of them would ever have to work again.
And you could have. You had the option to go and become a doctor to the rich and famous. You were even offered a job.
And you turned it down. You told your family that the client chose someone else, someone with more experience, but the truth was that the idea of playing doctor to people who could afford the best medical care in the galaxy made your stomach churn.
You went to medical school to help people, so that’s what you decided to do.
You reached out to the MediCorps, a subdivision of the Jedi Order, and asked for funding to open a clinic on the lower levels of Coruscant, to help the people who lived there who needed medical attention, but couldn’t quite afford it.
And they agreed.
Which is how you came to own and operate the Little Hope Medical Clinic, with a team of other doctors and nurses who operate under you. Your clinic is able to do everything from neonatal care up to brain surgery, and everything in between.
And it is a point of pride for you that you’ve never turned a patient away.
This does mean that a not insignificant number of your patients are gang members, drug dealers, or junkies…or some combination of the three…but so long as they don’t bring their problems to the doors of your clinic, you’ll treat them all the same.
“Thank you for agreeing to see me so late,” You smile soothingly at the teenager sitting on the medical table, “I know I should have been more careful-”
“Accidents happen,” You reply soothingly as you finish wrapping her arm, “Keep the bandages on for three days, and then come back and we’ll get a nurse to remove them and make sure that it healed properly.”
“Thank you, doctor.” You smile at the teenager’s mother, who looked much calmer now that her son had been treated, “I don’t know what we would have done without your clinic here.”
“Well, luckily that’s not something you need to worry about.” You motion for the boy to hop off the bed, “Alright, you’re all set. No more backflips, kiddo.”
“Alright,”
You see them out of the clinic, the mother paying only for the pain medicine that you prescribed for his broken arm, and you start locking up for the night.
While the clinic never actually closes, having a nurse and a doctor on staff at all hours, the doors get locked at 7 pm, and don’t get unlocked until 7 am. There’s a buzzer if someone needs to get in.
Some nights, the buzzer doesn’t ring at all…other nights it rings nonstop.
So when the buzzer rings an hour later, you aren’t really surprised. Instead you put your book to the side and head to the front door. You push the door open, and sigh when you see who’s on the other side.
“Gentlemen, don’t you have your own doctors to patch you up?” You ask as you eye ARC Trooper Jesse, who’s bleeding from a gash on his head, and his brother, Hardcase, who looks to be nursing a broken arm. Both are regulars at your clinic.
“Well, our brothers would yell at us,” Jesse points out as he presses a cloth tight against his head, “And you treat us with a smile.”
You sigh again, and take Jesse’s arm supporting his weight, “Alright, Jess. You’re with me. Hardcase, room one.”
“Thanks, Doc.” Hardcase mumbles as moves pass you and into the first exam room.
You guide Jesse into one of the further exam rooms and help him sit on the bed, “Alright, let’s take a look.” You pull on some gloves and gently take the cloth from his hands. “It’s not too bad, actually,” You say as you look at the injury, “Just head wounds bleed a lot. How’d it happen?” You ask as you grab what you need to clean the wound.
“I just wanted to come and see your pretty face, mesh’la.” Jesse replies with a grin.
“Mm. Well, you don’t have to be injured to come and see me, Jesse. In fact,” You reach up to clean the wound, pulling a hiss from him, “I’d prefer it if you weren’t injured.”
“Aww…ner mesh’la, always worried about me~”
You huff out a breath, “Of course I worry about you. I see you nearly once a week for various injuries.” You turn and grab some bacta paste, and reach up to apply it to the wound.
“Well, you’re always working, mesh’la. When else am I supposed to see you?”
You place a bandage over the cut, “Let that sit for an hour or so, and then you can take it off.” You turn and toss what you used away, and then you wet a cloth and start washing the blood off his face, “Honestly, Jesse. You make it sound like you get hurt, intentionally, just so you can come and see me.”
“What? Nooo, I would never-” He lies, badly.
“Jesse!”
He grins at you, unrepentantly, “You work all the time, mesh’la. And I know this clinic is important to you, hell, it’s important to me too, but this is the only way for me to catch you.”
“You…” You sigh, “You can just come to the clinic to see me, Jesse. You don’t have to be hurt. I’d really, really appreciate it if you stopped intentionally hurting yourself just to get attention from me.”
“Okay.”
You narrow your eyes at him, “If it happens again, I’m telling Kix.”
“...right. Point made. Won’t happen again.”
“Good,” You finish washing the blood off his face, and favor him with a warm smile, “There, good as new.”
His gaze is warm as he watches you, and a sly grin crosses his face, “But doc, you forgot a step.”
“I forgot a step?” You repeat, amused.
“You did. It’s okay though, I won’t tell anyone. It’s late after all.” Jesse offers magnanimously.
“Okay, Doctor Jesse, what step did I forget?”
“You have to kiss it better,” He says with a growing grin.
“Is that right?”
“It is,” He says, his eyes glittering.
“Fine,” You stand on your toes, and you press your lips, very gently against his forehead, just under the bandage, “There you go. One kiss to make it better.”
One of his hands grips your waist, and the other one rests on the back of your neck, as he pulls you in and crashes his lips against yours. He adjusts you so that you’re standing between his legs, and leaning against him.
When he breaks the kiss, you’re breathless, and leaning all of your weight against him, though he doesn’t seem to mind judging by the way he’s grinning.
“That,” You say as you start to catch your breath, “is not how kissing it better works.”
“Sorry.” He doesn’t sound the least bit repentant.
“No you’re not.” You reply.
“Hm…no, I’m not.” He agrees, and his lips are against yours again, this time using his teeth to draw soft moans and whines from your throat.
The next time he breaks the kiss, you’re flushed and breathless, and your fingers are curled into fists against his chest. His grip on your hip is tight, grounding you in place. “So, I was thinking,” Jesse murmurs, his lips hovering over yours.
“Oh?”
“There’s this really nice cafe a few streets over, they have some really good caf and some of the best sandwiches on the lower level,” He says quietly, “You want to go get some with me?”
“Now?” You ask.
He smiles, “No, when your shift ends in the morning. We can have a breakfast date.”
You smile up at him, “I think that sounds like a plan.” You reply, “But, um…can you kiss me more?” You ask, a blush crossing your cheeks.
Jesse laughs, “Of course I can, mesh’la. As much as you want.” He replies with a grin, “For as long as you want.”
