What a wonderful time to be alive. Watched Frieren with some friends, ate mooncake (red bean, which to me is tied with matcha as the best flavor), and now I'm thinking about my Architect on Standard Island AU.

The Architect has to go out with a bang. What better reference than Standard Island?

It's highly idealistic for characters to say "end the war", but in that kind of environment where the time is looping back, I suppose it would be within reach of "end all wars". Or maybe I've been reading too much Cipher Academy...

It's September 17!!! Which means it's the birthday of everyone's (my) favourite pharmaceutical doctor🥺🥺🥺I love her so much 🥺🥺🥺

It's no surprise that she's my current obsession and a lot of my brainrot is based on her orz so ofc I had to do her justice for her birthday! Which is today -- September 17~

Since Sept 17 this year is also Mid Autumn Fest I was hoping to draw her eating some mooncake maybe with Ceres or Vail or Elise 🤔🤔🤔 Let's see if I can squeeze in a sketch tomorrow.

As for how she usually celebrates her birthday? I imagine usually with her friends and Vail XD Maybe this year, they had hotpot and mooncakes 🤣* I imagine her favourite filling might be low sugar red bean or lotus seed. I tried to draw some lotuses in the BG of her birthday art but uhhhh I free handed them so they might not be the best. The flower in her hair is supposed to be a lotus too but I didn't look at a ref before I drew it so it's not accurate LOL SOME FUN FACTS FOR THE UPCOMING CYBERPUNK VIS NOVEL THAT'S DEF GOING TO COME OUT BEFORE 2030 (pls believe and cope with me)

Fun fact 1: The events of the campaign take place right after had a girl's night out with Elise + Ceres 😭

Fun fact 2: In the campaign, her birthday present from Vail is Meng, her ragdoll cat :3

Fun fact 3: The diamond-shaped green gemstone necklace she's often depicted wearing was Ceres' gift to her!

Comparing this year to last year's piece, I'm super proud of my improvement. I tried to keep everything almost the same except her hair is a little longer since it's been a year~ I think the main improvement is me being able to draw hands sometimes now XD (I REALLY TRIED FOR THIS PIECE T_T) Maybe you might notice other improvement I've made? 🥺

Let's also compare last year's Lei bday art (2023) compared to this year's (2024). For some reason last year's art looks really wonky in terms of the face even though I actually drew the sketch on pencil traditionally??? Also ofc there's no hands drawing LOL And the hair is shorter but for some reason there's no green dye? Although in this year's piece note that the green dye migrated cuz she didn't dye her hair so it simply,,, moved down LOL as her hair grew

But to blab more about Lei's birthday while we have space 🤔🤔🤔 CONSIDERING THE MODERN AU where Lei + her friends are in university (and med school LOL)... I imagine the first year they threw her a surprise birthday party cuz Gigi is very good at planning parties 💅 But they can't do that every year or she'll expect it!

Lei is half Chinese so that's why it's really cool her bday this year falls on mid autumn fest! It's extra cool cuz she already has some moon motifs with her flower symbolism being moon flower + an unreleased parallel for the witch au/ fantasy au + celestial themed wallpaper i was going to draw... I HAVE TOO MANY OC BRAINWORMS NOT ENUFF SKILL OR TIME

Elise would likely go with perfume, scented candles, or jewelry like earrings -- something she knows Lei would like or use!

Gigi's gift is her presence in Lei's life (IM JOKING BUT ALSO THIS IS TRUE). She'd probably give Lei a pretty outfit that she'd like Lei to wear + it would fit Lei perfectly -- SHE MIGHT EVEN SEW OR DESIGN IT HERSELF???

Vail's birthday gift for the first year is Meng AS IT IS CANON but for this one I imagine they already have Cillin + Meng so 🤔🤔🤔 maybe this year it's his d- I'm kidding... sorry LOL probably something like earrings actually XD since he's gone shopping with her. German Halloween Traditions

Halloween wasn't exported to / celebrated in Germany until the mid-90s, so as a result it is not celebrated everywhere in Germany and the older generations are not happy that it is a thing.

Younger adults, teens, and kids within the past 25 years have certainly embraced it, however, and the Germans have come up with traditions of their own for Halloween.

That being said, here's a rundown of German Halloween traditions and the holiday's history in Germany.

History

The Special Carnival Group (Fachgruppe Karneval) of the German Association for the Toy Industry (Deutscher Verband der Spielwarenindustrie, DVSI) takes credit for exporting Halloween to Germany in the 1990s. DVSI claims that in 1991, the German amusement and toy industry was badly hurt after the First Gulf War led to the cancellation of Karneval, so they looked for alternatives and started promoting Halloween to Germans in 1994. [Source] Dieter Tschorn in particular takes credit for this and has named himself "the father of German Halloween". [Source]

As it happens, the 31st of October is the date of another important religious holiday in Germany: the Reformation Day. Reformation Day honors Martin Luther's Protestant Reformation (when the Roman Catholic Church was split) and is an official holiday in Protestant regions--primarily in the states of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. This puts it in conflict with Halloween, which is seen as a pagan observance. Traditions

Halloween Pumpkin (Halloween Kürbis)

Jack-o-lanterns and other carved squash are an increasingly-common decoration in some neighborhoods on October 31st.

Pumpkins are also sold earlier in the season at pumpkin festivals and autumn fests, but those are smaller and primarily for eating.

Europapark (largest amusement park in Germany): Halloween-themed decorations and events throughout October into November

Trick-or-Treating

Known as um die Häuser ziehen ("going around the houses"), trick-or-treating is not as popular in Germany as it is in the USA, but young children do enjoy it.

German version of the phrase "trick or treat?" is "Süßes oder Saures” (sweet or sour). A slightly more sinister variant is "Süßes sonst gibt’s Saures” ("sweets or there'll be sour things").

If houses are covered in Halloween decorations or displaying a pumpkin outside, this is usually a good indication that they will be giving out sweets. If you don’t want to be bothered by people ringing your doorbell, it’s a good idea to turn out the lights. [Source]

Costumes

German Halloween costumes tend toward the scary, spooky side of the spectrum, especially where adult-oriented Halloween parties are concerned.

Unlike the USA, people in Germany do not wear costumes to work on Halloween. Primary / secondary schools might hold events for the kids to dress up, play games, have snacks, usw., but many companies do not observe Halloween. It's best to save wearing your costume for a party after work, during the evening.

I must say, for the record: Imelda x Poppy is a rather old ship.

The very first Imelda x Poppy fic, as well as the Very First Imelda x f!MC x Poppy Fic, that I can remember and trace back, have been written by @/crimsonedquill in Autumn 2023.

Then the ship had gotten into the Kneazle Fest at @hohogwarts-kekacy and around the same time window @phinik started to post screencaps of the two (dec-feb 2023/24).

The very first artwork for the ship I recall was made by… oof, I don't remember the usercap anymore, but it was an art where they're at a ball and wear dresses. The art was attributed to a fic where the two are a happy couple. I think it was April 2023.

I suspect the ship has been around for longer though, since those who shipped f!MC with Poppy also shipped f!MC with Imelda, like imeldafcknreyes did (we remember you, love, hope you're all right). There was bound to be an overlap + old discord servers might share some lore on if the ship had been around in the servers around Spring and Summer of 2023. UPD: hogwartslegacyreactions had some entries about Imelda x Poppy as well; don't remember the dates but the blog had been posting ship entires since mid-Spring to mid-Summer of 2023.

Before Madeline the ship was niche, however. Very niche. If not super niche. Barely anyone shared anything of them until mid-Spring of this year. We're very glad to have Maddy joined us 🤧🤧💓💓💓

海上生明月，天涯共此时。 The moon, grown full now over the sea, brightening the whole of heaven.

不堪盈手赠，还寝梦佳期。 So I leave my message with the moon, and turn to my bed, hoping for dreams.

“Looking At The Moon And Thinking Of One Far Away” (望月怀远) by another Tang poet, Zhang Jiu Ling (张九龄, 675-740 AD). This poem was written when the poet Zhang Jiu Ling was demoted. It expresses the feelings that he missed his family or lovers at a full-moon night. Above the ocean, the bright full-moon rises slowly, the poet wished his family or lovers far away were sharing this moment together with him.
