Here are some fluffy/sweet post-canon Armand & Daniel Headcanons.

Daniel likes to play a game he calls “Apartment Roulette” where he picks a random apartment that he and Armand lived in (or used for storage) on the 1970s and goes to see if 1) It’s still there, 2) Still empty/still belongs to them, and 3) If any of their stuff is still there. He calls it his personal archeology project. Sometimes Armand goes with him, and occasionally Benji tags along (and asks a lot of questions.)  

Whenever Daniel travels without him, or he goes to court alone, Armand takes one of Daniel’s band t-shirts and wears it around or to bed. 

Daniel and Louis regularly coerce Armand into playing Trivial Pursuit or Trivia Murder Party (he prefers the latter). Sometimes Marius joins but he’s insufferable when he gets answers right and argues endlessly when he gets them wrong. Whenever Lestat joins in virtually, his connection mysteriously dies any time he’s losing. 

Daniel has his own room at Trinity Gate, but mostly lives out of Armand’s room, including using his closet and bathroom for his hair products. Occasionally he will clear out to give Armand space with someone else, but usually Armand just goes to the other person's room instead, or they all end up in giant cuddle pile in Armand’s bed (no one is complaining.) 

When Daniel was mortal, he occasionally took photos of things in the sunlight for Armand - their apartments, Night Island, the view from Night Island with the ocean, Daniel himself taken by a helpful random person, etc. Armand has saved the best of these in a box that he keeps in his closet at Trinity Gate. Sometimes Daniel pulls them out. He likes to remember not only how the sun looked in those places, but also the memories associated with the photos themselves. 

Daniel wears an array of offensive t-shirts and ratty jeans at Court just to see how long it takes for someone to tell him off and try to make him change. Usually it’s Marius and it doesn’t take long. Occasionally Armand beats Marius to the punch, depending on the t-shirt and the state of his jeans - Armand doesn’t want his fledgling looking like a feral vagrant (his words.) 

Armand owns at least one yacht, but he also had a sleek black speedboat at a marina in Manhattan that he and Daniel take out on the water sometimes because it reminds them of living in Miami and they like being out on the water together, just the two of them. (They also enjoy doing this when they visit Night Island.) 

Once in a while, when they want to travel but can’t decide where to go, they pull out a map and throw a literal dart and then hop a plane to wherever the dart lands. 

Sometimes when Daniel goes on a solo trip somewhere, Armand will surprise by joining him, but often plays a little cat and mouse with him first just for old times’ sake. (They both love this, it's a game to them.)

Two flavours of horny Marius thoughts available this evening

First, loved the title. Killed it as usual.

Ngl, initially I was mostly going to focus on Daniel’s monsterfucking tendencies and his depravity and Armand enabling his ass and helping him make a mess in his pants at church and how this fandom needs more church porn (all things considered) but then halfway through I had a fucking revelation lmao, and once it hit me I couldn’t stop.

Like I said, a masterpiece, I don’t even know where to begin! Armand-not-Armand whispering behind Daniel’s ear was the perfect blend of unsettling and hot. Calling him a child in the same way he was called a child. So vivid and bizarre and unnatural. It made me wonder just how much Armand shared with Daniel in such a way, how much he let him see. My guess is that… Daniel saw more than enough djdhdjssj, and Armand even made a point to remind him on the plane that once he turned him, he would never share his visions with him again. How much did he show him? How much did he reveal about himself when he chose to comunicate with Daniel like this? I had never really thought about their relationship in these terms (not beyond them communicating through the mind gift at least, and what happened with their shared dreams of the twins but that was part of a much bigger thing), but it was an undeniable part of it, and you explored it in a way that felt so perfectly Ricean. Unsettling, hot, so full of possibilities. Like, Daniel being devoured like the woman at the theater, and the vampire drinking from Daniel’s thigh in the vision, was it meant to resemble Alessandra? Insanity! 🥹

Ahhhh thank you DA 😭 I have this persistent worry that low feedback = the thing I tried to do didn't telegraph and as much as I like risk taking I can't help but wonder when the risks pay off.

But like they're not in a happy place in this fic so maybe that's the problem lol I usually have them so loving but being dragged to mass, forced to sit and listen to Good Friday sermons on death and resurrection and ever lasting life- Daniel would be hanging by a thread! He's sitting beside the person who can give him that but is denying him and he can't talk to anyone about it! And Armand won't talk to him about why and won't share his past! Of course he ends up crabby and snippy even at the end.

Re: the visions, I had this really strong intention that this is a variation on something that happened to Armand when he was taken to the cult. Not in an actual church, maybe, but he's blending himself with his memory of Santino here and creating a version of his own experience for Daniel. So absolutely that was Allessandra, that was sometimes Santino holding him up, some of those were words Armand himself heard.

And to me that puts his performance at the theater for Louis into perspective. Because people have caught on that this is also a repeat of that, but maybe not drawn the conclusion that the theater scene came from something even further in the past.

And YEAH I think a lot about what memories Armand might have twisted around and shown Daniel, that Daniel might have written off as straight up fantasies crafted for him until much much later. Or what acts he replayed with him without telling him it was something he experienced. I think Daniel learned a lot about him without even realizing it.

Love your love for post-canon Armand/Daniel, I’m the same 🫣 In part because I love reading different interpretations of what their relationship is like in the present, what has changed and what has remained the same over the years. It seems like people agree on most things but I love how certain things simply come down to personal interpretation. And look, I know that Anne should’ve included WAY more armandaniel content in the last trilogy but I appreciate the fact that she had a plan in mind for them, or at least a theme: them wanting to spend as much time alone together as possible post-reunion, which is a thing every time their names are mentioned together (them sneaking out in the rain, them wanting to go back to Trinity Gate). They’re in their “run away with me/anytime you want” era and I really love that for them 🫀

I’m so into post-canon Armand and Daniel and I'm so glad you are too! Anne didn’t need to tell me they’d get back together for me to believe they would—I firmly believe they always will, they’re soulmates and two sides of the same weird coin, plus Daniel is Armand’s only fledgling. They have a bond in love and bond in blood. And they’ve always been so absolutely feral for each other. I just can’t imagine them staying apart for long without extenuating circumstances. I believe they’re that couple who will have their periods of being apart (either because they’re doing different things or because they had a fight, lol) but they’ll always come back together. They’re magnetic and they love each other so much.

But I am glad Anne did give us little mentions that they were in fact doing things together and, correct me if I’m wrong, as far as we know Daniel and Armand are living together when the series ends. Which is good enough for me. Of course I would have loved Daniel to get more screen time. I mean aliens are involved! Let the guy talk about that! I want his perspective on that stuff! Or just to be included in the ending because he is such a vital character. He’s the reason the series exists! He’s the one who started it all. I mean, come on! ISTG Anne.

I love that you’ve pointed out how they seem to want to be alone together when they are mentioned in the last trilogy. I hadn’t really thought of it that way and now that’s my happy thought. Because it does seem in line with my prevailing in-universe theory for why we don’t get more of them together and that’s because they want their privacy. 

We know Daniel never wanted fame. He published Interview with the Vampire under a pseudonym. I can imagine he was vaguely uncomfortable with his story being out in the world once he realized people he knew might find it. (Which is a funny thought given how eagerly he devoured Armand’s story in TVL but like.. I don’t blame him there.) 

But also Armand and Daniel have been through a lot. Armand tried to end his life and has had to spend time recovering and then got saddled with two kids because Marius thought it would tether him to the world. Daniel thought Armand had died and he’d lost him and went mad for a while. Like they’ve been through some shit. I can absolutely see them deciding that they want some space and for their story to be kept off the published pages of Lestat’s books as much as possible and Lestat acquiescing because he clearly does love Armand. 

If they want some peace and their time together left out of the books, if they want to disappear together or run off alone for long periods, or even just sneak off to Paris when they’re at Court, or hole up alone in Trinity Gate with a “No Vacancy” sign on the door, frankly that’s beautiful and they deserve it. I love that for them.

None of us thinks we're owed ANYTHING but like... I came up in fandom in the 90s and 2000s, where people were sharing stuff in newsgroups and on forums and then livejournal. It was a community and everyone interacted with each other and shared their thoughts and commented on fics! Fics launched whole discussions and more fics about similar topics. Now it feels like fandom is so isolated, and people put creators in some separate box where they will consume what they create but not dare interact. And it's weird! We're all just part of fandom, flailing around and trying to have to fun.

Now there's this social media like button culture where people (not just in fandom) will leave a like and move on and that's fine except it doesn't feel as personal and creates this lonely atomosphere. It's so passive, as you said, and as someone who's spending a lot of their free time and brain power crafting fics because I'm excited about the characters or an idea and I want to share, putting it out there and getting nothing back is so demoralizing.

And then of course there's the insecurity. Most writers have it in spades so when we post something and the response is... lackluster... the first thought is often "Well, apparently this one sucks." It creates all kinds of doubt! And then if you're me, sometimes you feel stupid for posting at all and wonder if you should take it down. (I talk myself out of this and then more comments come in and I feel better - although lately comments are hard to come by after the first couple of days a fic is live!)

But I digress. It's just this whole thing and it's weird because no one owes anyone comments or compliments, but creating into a void is depressing and unsatisfying and it's going to lead to people not bothering to share what they make. And that's a bummer, because fandom is all about sharing and conversing and having fun as a group. Otherwise I can just tell my headcanons to my cats, who are always happy to listen.

But you always do your part!! I love your messages and they always make me feel like I've succeeded. So thank you so much again for your kind words! I really am proud of that fic and I hope people will start to realize that a quick comment is worth so much to fic writers. It doesn't need to be elaborate!

And LOL yes, I love the idea of Daniel being so busy battling digital zombies that he's just.. not involved in the last book. Armand calls from time to time and Daniel talks him off a ledge and then fights his way through another zombie-infested building. 😂😂😂 This is my current theory and I'm sticking to it.
