Day 9: Humanity

Tbh I don’t know how to visual depict humanity lmao, so I did a quick drawing I didn’t full finish it it’s more of a lazy draw and color, like crayon drawing , I’m not sure if I’m going to continue doing the other 3 prompts (day 2: Nostalgia, Day 6: Snow, Day 8:Barbatos) I’m not sure if I’m saying this cause of my sleep deprived self at 3 almost 4 am, but I need a break, from being sick since November in different ways and my body being a little bithc to attending events, and moving around. I can say at a least I’m tired and would like at least a day off or a couple hours (cause I know my punk ass would like to start drawing again) 🤡 I am a house cat that likes to have uneventful days and stay home, but I’ve been dragged around.

Enough about me complaining, I’m still happy to say at least I participated the majority of the event, which I am proud of, Ngl I thought my limit would be like 2 or something lmao, but I’m proud of myself of being able to do 6 prompts! It may not sound a lot, but that’s a lot to me. I did have fun and I absolutely love drawing old man he is definitely my favorite character (like everyone else lmao) I hope his old self has a happy and wonderful birthday, and that he was the best birthday! 🥰💕

I frickin love that you're doing these fanfic birthdays so much, and when I first got the notification that you sent this one, I smiled SO big. The Viper & The Wild Thing - specifically the first part, The Cold Offends Me - is one of my favorite things that I've ever written. Oberyn Martell was the first Pedro character I fell in love with, but I was also in love with him as a character before I ever saw him on screen since I had read the books. I remember being enamored by him and Ellaria and all things Dornish, and I still am, for the record. Give me a show entirely about the kingdom of Dorne and I will be a happy girl.

Writing for Oberyn happened sort of unintentionally, though, despite being head over heels in love with him. I was (as is my way) already working on several other wips (some things really never do change) but then @something-tofightfor launched like... an all out assault, honestly, for multiple days where she just sent me gifs and screenshots of Oberyn being Oberyn. And then, in a BURST of creative juice the likes of which I have not seen since, I wrote the whole first part in one day. Start to finish. In one sitting. Who did I think I was, doing that?

I really and truly wanted to have a new part to this story ready to share tonight to celebrate three years of Oberyn and his Wild Thing, but my mistake was in thinking I could be brief with it, so it's not quite ready yet. I'm optimistic that it will be by Sunday night, though! So there's that! And in the meantime, here's a little snippet:

“Close your eyes for me.” Oberyn’s request came in the form of a contented purr as he dropped his plush lips behind your ear. “Just for a moment.” 

Eyelids already hanging heavy from the weight of your sated bliss, you hummed and did as he asked without hesitation. “For as many moments as you wish, my Prince,” you murmured through a loose grin, leaning your head back against his shoulder. 

Bodies still joined, his left arm snaked more tightly around your waist to keep you in place on his lap. His fingers spread over your side, their tips pressing into your flesh. Your stomach flipped as you realized that the way he was holding you, with an almost ferocious urgency to his grip, was the same way you’d seen him fill his hands with Ellaria’s waist when he kissed her. 

“Just one,” he insisted, “I prefer to see them open and looking into mine.” You felt the slightly crooked ridge of his nose drag over your temple before he shifted behind you, prompting you to sit up. What is he doing back there? Every cell in your body was still vibrating with pleasure at a frequency that made it impossible to guess at his actions. 

You gave a dizzy little laugh, warmth blooming in your chest as your left arm draped over his where he held you. “I think we may have to move if you want me to look into your eyes.” Though I’d be happy if I never moved again.

“No, we will not.” He kissed the corner of your eye, and then pulled back, unwinding his arm and using both hands to situate something hefty and cool around your neck. “Open them, Wild One.”  Again, you did as he asked without question, blinking twice and then sucking in a gasp at what you saw reflected back at you in the mirror on the other side of the room. “Oberyn.”

As for moments I just had to gif?! There's been a fuck ton throughout the years and the men. 😅I'll answer under a cut for length and lets see what all my old lady brain can remember. 👵 I apologize in advance for how long this could potentially get and just how random the gifs probably are. I never feel inspired to gif cool scenes with witty dialogue, I just gif for thirst reasons because I'm a dumpster of a human. ETA: It got really long and didn't even scratch the surface tbh.

For Rob, I'll start with this one. I feel like I post it every time someone asks me about my favorite gifs or moments but listen, that man's god damn belly makes me feral. The context of the scene is also just peak Dad™ for me so it was 10000/10, absolutely had to gif this the second I watched:

This is an interview but you know when you first start checking out a new dude and you see gifs from interviews/shows where they look particularly tasty and you're immediately like I must find this and watch it or else I will perish. That was this interview for me. And how could it not be? Again...BELLY. Hairy belly. Just big, soft, delicious man meat. And thighs. As soon as I found it I had to gif it for myself so I could make it as obnoxiously big as humanly possible.

I watched this zoom live and the moment this motherfucker turned his head my brain said "gif it". Profile? Nose? Greys?

And this shot too. This man was fucking born to smile, he puts his whole ass into it.

This. His arms here. This scene was dark af but I knew I had to gif it anyway. I adore the shape of this man. It feels so fucking real to me. Soft belly, sizeable arms that still look natural. It's realistic, it's comfy, it's fucking sexy. He's just fucking man-shaped.

I don't even have to tell you why because I know you get it.

I'm an American what do you want from me? 🤡 I'm just kidding, it's not because of the gun. 😅IDK if you've watched Downton, but Thomas is just such a fucking capable man. There isn't a task they set him to that he doesn't excel at and I just felt like it was always overlooked and underappreciated by everyone around him. That shot and scene inspired an entire gifset I made about him being a man of many talents.🤓

I can't even explain it, I just knew I needed it. He just looks so man sized. And fuzzy. Just...go off daddy.

I can't post all the gifs from this scene/episode so I'll settle for this one. But I knew immediately I'd be giffing it until my fingers hurt (that legit happens y'all, I'm old 👵) Not only did he spend some time in this episode being the soft, caring uncle but he did it in a cozy sweater and it was like they were sure to hit all my weaknesses at once. Soft cozy men? 👀Then they were kind enough to give us the most beautiful close-up shots of his face. And the boy just has a beautiful fucking face.

For old times' sake, I'm gonna include some Jon just for you but to be fair, I liked him for seven damn years so there were a lot. Too many to list or even remember. But here's a few that maybe aren't the obvious shots!

This one. I remember everyone losing their shit over his ass but I was losing my mind over that "soft flash of belly" (really, I was always fangirling the hardest over scenes where Jon looked softer than he really was so we shouldn't be shocked I eventually left for a man with a beer belly 😅)

THE CONCERT.

(I'm just going to bullet point some of my favorite moments here in your ask instead of personally message you)

HER OUTFITS. SLAY, QUEEN!!!! 👑 The stripping of each piece was done so quickly yet effortlessly.

I was absolutely crying on the inside. 🥹🤧

I love how she told us a story that somehow correlated to the song before she sang. The way she transitioned into each song was done so smoothly.

Idina talking a little bit about mental health. Just another thing to add on my long list of why I love her. The way she transitioned into the topic, though, was clever. I don't know if she did the same for California, but for us, (if I'm remembering correctly) she first sang an up-tempo jazz song and then proceeded to discuss the topic.  I, too, have anxiety, you beautiful human being. I hope Idina is aware of how loved she is by many, because she is. ❤️ 

The story she told before she sang "Do You Want to Build a Snowman" was great. Speaking of that song, her cover of the song was AMAZING! (I tried snowboarding in 2021 and found out the hard way that I can't do it either! 🙂 So.. cheers to her and I for trying to be cool.)  

"No One Mourns The Wicked" - I had no idea what to think about it to be honest, but I love how she went hard with it to the point of headbanging. Gotta stan her for that, lmao. It's honestly not one of my favorite songs.

I never saw If/Then, but "You Learn to Live Without" is beautiful. I loved all of the slow, sentimental songs.

THE FINALE. I don't know about you, but for us, after she sang a sentimental song (I forgot which one), she said, in a monotone voice, “Goodnight, everyone, thank you.” with a straight face and then walked off. Me: 😯🤨😕😶 I was very confused, because there was one specific song she didn't sing... As the audience kept cheering, I thought to myself, 'There is no way in hell she just did that. There is no absolute way she went through a whole concert without singing that song...!'

I DID NOT DRIVE 45 MINUTES FOR MY QUEEN™ TO NOT SING DE-

She came back to the stage with a robe on. I am so proud of myself for staying. 😮‍💨 Nobody was leaving, so that's when I realized "Defying Gravity" was the finale song. 🥹 I kind of figured it would be, but was that little stunt really necessary?? Lol, great acting, Idina, great acting. And GREAT JOB FOR ALMOST GIVING ME A HEART ATTACK!

Overall, this was an incredible concert. I'm honestly still speechless and processing everything, so I'm sure there's more that I will remember later today, but that's all I'll write for now. I am definitely going to New York next year for my birthday to see her new musical! This was a great way to end July!

Aaah this makes me so happy!! 🥹 The dress made me think of the one in the “Brave” music video. I think my favorite is when it’s the nude dress with the black ribbon around the waist. I had never heard “Twist It” (the mental health song), but it made me laugh so much! She briefly mentioned her husband being a therapist in the Oakland show, which I always enjoy because he and I have the same job/license lol. I love that she kept a little of “Dear Prudence” for “Do You Want to Build a Snowman.”

“No One Mourns the Wicked” was so surprising for me, but I loved it, and I loved that she used part of the San Francisco version! “You Learn to Live Without” is one of the earliest songs I was obsessed with for her (I think she started singing it on tour about a year after I started liking her?) and I was just hoping she sang it again, that was amazing for me. And yes, the whole encore thing haha! I know she did an encore in 2015 which is why I knew she wasn’t done (plus she hadn’t done defying gravity), but I still had that “wait, what” moment.

His heart is white-hot and aching, all the pain of his progenitor’s end pulsing through him as he curls in on himself. The gazes of the other gods weigh heavily on him as the universe swims into focus. Their whispers ripple across galaxies to wash over his still-tender form, awakening in him an anger that beams into the darkness as his eyes open, twin crimson spheres cutting through the endless night.

This was such a fun style experiment!! I wrote it for a zine and it was by far the shortest fic bc I decided to go with the dialogue-less option; it felt better suited to the space vibe.

I looked up so many astronomy facts for this too, which was fun bc I'm a bit of a space bitch (even though I probably fucked it all up for the ~narrative~ lmao). Did you know! Beta Capricorni, one of the stars in Capricorn (Dabi's sign and mine - we share a birthday, and it is my favorite BNHA factoid), is commonly known as Dabih, derived from an Arabic legend saying Beta Capricorni and Alpha Capricorni, aka Algedi, were "the lucky stars of a slaughterer."

I really really want to dive further into the concept of gods being birthed from dying stars at some point - there's so much I didn't get to in this fic just bc of limits and themes and such, but I think it's fucking cool even if it's not popular.

I don’t want your apologies.” Sylvain arches a brow. “I just want you—” (And oh, those words on their own are nearly enough to unwind that barbed wire, but somehow it hurts worse knowing it’s not what Felix really means.) “—to be better.” Felix takes a deep breath, turns to the kitchen counter, and fiddles for a second too long with the tabs on the pizza boxes. “I hate watching you hurt yourself.”

Man, where do I start with this one. I picked at this fic for over a year and a half before deciding to finish it for a bang, and I'm so happy about how it turned out. One theme that shows up a lot in my writing is "love is an action and a choice," and I think this fic showcases that beautifully.

Sylvain's so fucked up here and I love him so much. This timestamp from the middle of a breakdown and subsequent guilt about said breakdown just...really hits home. And Felix being there - CHOOSING to remain there - through that one and all previous ones? clenches fist They're in love, your honor.

I just think it's important to show that being kind of a shitty person doesn't preclude you from being loved, nor should it.

“No need for sorry,” Oda says, the words automatic. “That’s not your place.” It’s the wrong thing to say, comes out nothing like he’d intended. Dazai flinches as though he’s been shot, curling up into himself and away from Oda before scrambling to his feet. There’s no easy grace in his movements today, only a quick, jerky retreat before Oda comes to his senses and darts after him. He wraps a hand around Dazai’s forearm to tug him back, and there’s nothing but rawness in Dazai’s eye when he turns around. “Let me go,” he says icily. “It’s not your place.”  “Dazai.” “Fuck off,” Dazai mutters, shrugging Oda’s hand away. “I’ll go die alone, then. In my place.” “Hey,” Oda says, soft as anything as Dazai’s turned half away. He holds his palms out, the same way he would for a stray or lost child. Dazai takes a shuddering breath. “I’m sorry,” he continues. “Your place-” “An executive doesn’t have a place,” Dazai says. “A weapon doesn’t need one.”

This was the spiritual precursor to in the morning i'll be with you, and upon rereading, I realized I wrote pretty much the same fic twice 😅 There's just something that hits EVERY time about softness in the face of bluntness about doing and wanting terrible things. I chose this one instead of in the morning because of one of the places the two fics diverge, actually.

In this fic, Oda actually says "I love you" to Dazai and Dazai does not take it well, and it feels important to me that not every I love you is received with an equally passionate "omg I love you too." But like I said for the Sylvix above, it's also important that it's expressed, even if it hurts or isn't received or reciprocated.

“I don’t need anyone,” Kaoru whispers. He’s always been good at making bad decisions when it comes to Kojiro; this is another in a long line of failures and he’s not willing to admit yet that maybe Adam fucked him up past the point of no return. “It’s fine,” he mumbles when he hears Kojiro shifting. He’s too afraid to watch him walk away. “You can just go.” And instead of leaving, Kojiro shuffles forward and hugs him. Kaoru is surrounded by impossibly gentle arms and the scent of pine, and though he’s used to the latter, he hasn’t been touched like this in a long, long time. “I’m not going to go,” Kojiro says softly. His face is buried in Kaoru’s shoulder, lips warm where they brush across his skin. “I’d say sorry, but I’m not, Kaoru. I don’t want to.”

God this fic actually kickstarted my writing motor after being really burnt out and plateaued on skill for a while. While it's not my most technically skilled fic (I don't think any on this list are, tbh?), it was fun to write and it's still fun to read.

I loved being able to take a softer turn with Kaoru's anxiety as opposed to some of the harder mental health issues I'm used to expressing in my writing. And Matchablossom were really just out there on screen being Like That at all moments, huh? Their dynamic is just such a joy to play with, whether it's softer like this or harder like some of my other SK8 fics.

“Everything I’ve done, everything I’ve made of myself, and it still isn’t enough. You know they always said shoot for the stars? I didn’t just shoot, Shiro, I helped save those stars. Where is there to go from there? There’s no coming back down to Earth after you’ve seen realities collapse around you. There’s no normal.” “It doesn’t need to be normal,” Shiro says. “I WANT normal!” Keith’s chest heaves, throat raw with the force of his insistence as his truth is birthed into the world. Twenty-five years’ worth of longing shake themselves loose from inside him and when they bleed out, so does his energy. He sinks to his knees, shaking as he repeats the words again and again. “I want normal. I want to be normal, Shiro, why can’t I be normal?”

This fic is just 9k of me bleeding my truth onto the screen, I'll be real (it should also be stated my self-destructive behaviors aren't physically harmful, that's artistic license). It hurt to write and it hurts to reread bc not much has changed in the years since I wrote it, but it's good, and I stand by the rawness of the narration. Dealing with a personality disorder and suicidal ideation (especially unmedicated and without therapy - bitches be rawdogging reality and I'm bitches) fucking blows. It's exhausting, and it makes you feel inhuman.

This scene especially knocked a few realizations loose for me, bc I don't remember writing it; my head just shut off, and then I looked at the page and went "ah. Oh dear. This feels like something I need to unpack, huh." And here we are, several years later, still unpacking lmao
