I'm on St. P's altar guild and I wanted to set up the altar for this Sunday since it's my birthday, but I wasn't on the schedule. The person who is supposed to this weekend just emailed, asking for coverage. Got my wish, which makes me happy.

Not sure why I want to...in a way, it's soothing to go through the routine of setting up and I'm usually by myself in the church that early in the morning, so it's peaceful and quiet. I need something soothing and good right now.

I will never forget being asked to join the altar guild and meeting with J because I was so panicked about it. In the Catholic Church, one slightly off-centered cloth is seen as sinful and bad, an affront to God. I was terrified to do anything wrong. J looked at me, put his hand over his chest, and said that as much as he can embody a priest's role, he would never get angry or upset if something is forgotten or misplaced. He told me we all know where everything is--we'll just go and get it, even in the middle of a service. I was completely stunned.

Smiling, he then said: "God happens anyway"
