Queen's first live album was recorded at various venues on the European tour of 1979, between January and March. It was produced by the band and engineered by John Etchells, who also recorded the concerts. Live Killers was the first Queen album to be mixed at the band’s own recording studios, Mountain Studios in Montreux, Switzerland. It was also their first double album.

The front cover features a photo of the band taken by Koh Hasebe during the Japanese tour of April 1979, and shows the band at the end of the night almost in silhouette, against the massive Pizza Oven lighting rig as it descends to the stage and faces the audience.

The '79 European tour - Queen's biggest up to that point - began in Hamburg Germany on January 17th and comprised twenty-eight shows in seven countries over a six week period, concluding with three shows in Paris on February 27/28 and March 1st (all of which were filmed).

It is no secret that some of the Queen band members were not entirely happy with the final mix of the album, but even so the fans loved it and it was a significant hit

What if Disney World Had an Olympics?

I was amazed at people managing to recognize the renditions of famous video game soundtracks that played during the Parade of Athletes the opening ceremonies of the Summer Games in Tokyo that I imagined what it would be like if Disney World had an Olympics as mentioned in the title of this mashup. I was also amazed at the renditions of Disney soundtracks that typically play on the WDW Today Channel in hotel rooms that I decided to use footage of the Parade of Athletes for the Summer Games in Atlanta and set it to those renditions, including some that I though were too amazing not to after some rigorous searching, one of which happens to be from a video game itself I had fond memories of playing myself! I'm just glad I decided to also use some royalty free sound effects of a stadium crowd continuously cheering to maintain the exciting atmosphere. After all, it's no wonder I came up with a personal additional reason for delaying the former a year later than intended due to COVID, because the latter was when I started keeping track of those events during my experiences growing up! Here's what to expect in this mashup in terms of the chosen music:

Napoleon, Joseph and the Tascher marriage

Just when I start to feel sympathy for Joseph, he keeps reminding me that the arseholey trait runs in the family…

As I mentioned earlier, Napoleon was peeved because a certain Jean Henri Robert Tascher de la Pagerie, one of the many cousins of discarded empress Josephine, had passed from his, Napoleon’s, service, to that of Joseph without Napoleon’s permission. Either because Tascher really was so madly in love with one Marcelle Clary, niece to Joseph’s wife Julie, as Napoleon seems to think, or maybe for other reasons (according to a footnote, Tascher had already attached himself to Joseph in 1806, i.e., in Naples). In any case Napoleon is not happy with him, as he writes to Eugène already in April 1810, after having told him details of yet another marriage of yet another Tascher boy (Pierre Claude Louis Robert).

Compiègne, 26 April 1810

[…] As to the other Tascher, I take no interest in him; he has failed me too badly for me to concern myself with him. This little rascal abandoned the French cockade in Madrid without notifying me, obeying an impulse of love, and forgetting all the duties he had towards me, especially before this circumstance. I am indifferent to what he does, to whom he marries, and I don't want to interfere at all. I do not speak of this to the Empress; but you know my principles on this matter; I shall never change them. I believe this young man to be frivolous and of a bad character. I send you back the letter from the King of Spain [Joseph]; I approve of what the Empress will do, but I do not want to give any sign of interest to an individual who has failed me.

He writes to Josephine in the same vein two days later:

Compiègne, 28 April 1810

[…] As to the other [Tascher], don’t talk to me about him, he has taken the red cockade [i.e., Joseph’s] without my order, I shall not receive him again.

So, seems like Monsieur l’Empereur feels slighted because this young man preferred Joseph over him. He also makes it clear that he is the one who gets to decide if somebody can join Joseph’s entourage or not. This is clearly a brother thing between Napoleon and Joseph.

(Did I mention that I get strong sibling rivalry vibes from everybody’s 1810 correspondence?)

Anyway, on to Joseph and how he felt about this matter. Obviously, he already had sounded out the Beauharnais side of the family about it at an earlier date, as Napoleon above writes about sending back one of Joseph’s letters that Eugène must have forwarded on to Napoleon. In July, Joseph writes to Julie:

Madrid, 16 July 1810

My dear friend, I have received your letter, brought by Tascher. His cousin [i.e., Joséphine] writes to me that the Emperor authorises him to marry your niece Marcelle; she agrees, according to what his brothers tell me. Tascher today has 50,000 livres of income in property, he has a position, he is honour itself: you must not hesitate to give him your niece; he is better than the option proposed to you.

I note that “honour” apparently has a lot to do with “income”, according to one Joseph Bonaparte. Also, there was apparently another marriage option that Julie may have preferred.

I therefore intend that Mademoiselle Marcelle should marry Monsieur Tascher, if she finds him suitable. I commit myself to him and his cousin [Josephine], to whom I do not want to break my word, less so today than at any other time [reference to the fact that Josephine has just gotten the boot by Napoleon]. Answer me in a precise manner, and Tascher will return to Paris.

Joseph repeats his explicit wish to make this marriage happen in a letter three weeks later, again to Julie:

Madrid, 8 August 1810

[…] I have written to you that I wish for Marcelle to marry Monsieur Tascher, who has just bought 40- to 50-thousand livres of income in biens nationaux [national assets, i.e., property seized by the state, most often from the clergy].

I think I want to introduce Joseph to Mrs Bennet from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. They should get along perfectly fine.

But let’s not be too harsh. After all, money is not Joseph’s only motivation. As he mentioned above, he also wants to show some support to poor Josephine in arranging this marriage for one of her relatives. Unless...

Madrid, 7 September 1810, again to Julie:

[…] If you felt that the Emperor did not want Tascher's marriage, no doubt against his will, it must not happen; in this case, he [i.e., Tascher] himself is too reasonable to enter into such a marriage: but the Empress Josephine has assured him otherwise.

Dear Julie, if it looks as if Napoleon is not happy with this, here’s your line of conduct: Tascher and Joseph are totally innocent. Just blame everything on Josephine.

Well hi again. I didn't think I'd be back here but... here I am.

I'm currently sitting at a table by the drill field, listening to sad music and crying a lot. An internet friend of mine committed suicide a couple nights ago, and I just found out today. So I'm using my free day to exist in my emotions.

As much as I am deeply hurt by the news about my friend, I think this is just a means for me to fully access and feel my emotions about Ozzy and Trent.

The last Ozzy texted me was April 10th. The last time Trent texted me was April 11th. The last time either of them said anything in our group chat was April 5th. I have been the last one to send a message in all three circumstances, and I was ignored in all of them as well.

It was only a matter of time. Oz told me that the problem was that I never made plans with them anymore, but I never made the plans to begin with. And that's not just for them, that applies to everybody. I am just not a plan maker. So it was confusing to me how the problem was something that had never been a problem for them before. Because I wasn't making plans with them, they stopped making plans with me. And stopped talking to me altogether. I don't know how to even reach out at this point.

I miss them so severely. I feel like I've let them down as friends. They were my people. They were the ones I leaned on when I had nobody to go to. They were the people who made me feel grounded and sane. Now I get sick to my stomach when their posts come up on my feed.

I have so much love for them still, but I don't believe they have any for me. It's just hard knowing they're out there living their lives happily without me, when I find it impossible to be happy without them.

I'm exhausted with life. I think all the time about how drained I am and I'm only 21. There's so much yet to come and I'm already tired and ready to throw in the towel. I can't do sixty more years of sickness and losing loved ones and political nightmares and senseless drama and resume building and fighting and crying myself to sleep and searching for purpose. I just can't, I don't have it in me.

Admittedly I have thought about suicide. A lot lately, actually. I haven't made a plan or anything, but I do think about it. At least three times a week.

The only way I've been able to put it into words lately is that I feel like I'm living the life of someone who has already died. It feels less like I'm living in reality and more like I'm inhabiting the memories of someone dead. I don't know what that means. But yeah.

Other quick things:

I won building supervisor of the year at my staff banquet! Yay me :)

I graduate in from college in two weeks!

I'm going to Florida with Dylan and his family the week after graduation.

Yeah that's all from me, I just needed to vent in here again. Maybe I'll be back later, who knows?

So I was thinking (as one does) and I just...

What if souyo were each others' romantic inverse? Like through how they love outwardly in platonic, familial and romantically compared to how they best receive or want to receive love

Yu, who never had even superficial friends, whose family abandonned him left right and center, and fears his ties are cut when he's no longer useful, feels like he's not worth anything inerently to those he holds dear.

Yosuke, who is essentially the back-up friend, who cant seem to get on the right foot with anybody, and up to this point hasnt been able to make anybody stay in touch, feels like he isnt going to be anybody's first choice, or their second, or even last.

But together, and for each other they give exactly what they need?

Sure, Yu may have fallen a little right at the start but their friendship and their relationship hold because he wakes up everyday and Chooses To Love Yosuke. Going out of his way to make sure he spends time with his best friend, that he notices when he needs a hand to hold. The way Yu loves everybody.

Yosuke has to of course go through his whole bit about learning to love himself enough to love outwardly and vice versa. But once he comes to terms with deserving friends (and also unlearning that homophobia/misogyny ofc) he finds that his friendship to lovers relationship with Yu is super easy. Because of course he can love his best friend in every way under the sun, he feels heart first and acts on it. There's no need to even think or choose. The same way Yosuke loves everyone

happy friday and happy sweldo, everybody! im so happy na sweldo na plus its the start of the long weekend for me!

medyo pangit yung pagkabukas ko ng tumblr kasi the first thing i see are these mochi donuts and now i want to buy some and try them out eh wala ata sa grab na pwedeng pag orderan so now its leaving this weird feeling inside me na i kinda wanna still find some options but at the same time i dont really want to buy anything

I think that Tom sees himself as Goncharov, but he is actually more akin to Andrey. He just doesn’t know it yet. The white suit in deal with the devil scene is a direct reference to Andrey’s outfit in the much overlooked café scene in which Andrey and Goncharov are secretly trying to come to an agreement which may spare both of their lives. However, we as the audience already know it is doomed to fail. Tom is unknowingly already holding the gun to Greg’s head, thus making Greg one of the true Goncharovian characters of the story. As someone who has been a wrestling fan for almost 18 years...I am so happy that John Cena has been around as long as I've watched WWE. He was one of the first WWE superstars I was introduced to when I started watching with my now husband and he's been one of the few constants over the years who's career I have paid close attention to. I'm a huge fan of his show Peacemaker as well as many can tell by my likes and posts🤣. It's nice to see him back in the wrestling ring where everything started for him. I wish him a happy 20 year anniversary and also wish him many many more years of success inside and outside the ring. Thank you Mr. Cena for being entertaining inside and outside of the ring and thank you for being such a wonderful person! May you continue to be blessed and happy!

I must say, as big as the Peacemaker fandom is on here, I'm really surprised there aren't more Happy Birthday wishes for John Cena in the Peacemaker tag. Now I know a lot of the fans ( myself included) love all the characters in their own way, but we really need to show Peacemaker himself some love on his birthday. Cruz was born on 28 April 1974 in the town of Alcobendas, province of Madrid, Spain, to Encarna Sánchez, an Andalusian hairdresser and personal manager, and Eduardo Cruz, an Extremaduran retailer and car mechanic. She has two siblings, Mónica, also an actress, and Eduardo, a singer. She also has a paternal half-sister, Salma.

She is a Spanish actress. Prolific in Spanish and English-language films, she has received various accolades, including an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award, in addition to nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and four Golden Globe Awards.

Cruz made her acting debut on television at 16, and her feature film debut the following year in Jamón Jamón (1992). The Ledge #584: Birthday Week!

When I put together each and every episode of The Ledge, I try really hard not to repeat myself too much. If I play a new single one week, the next I'll more than likely air a b-side or album track. Certain songs do end up appearing in multiple shows, but more than likely due to whatever themes I've selected.

That fact has always been in the back of my mind whenever I put on birthday shows. Obviously, during my birthday week I want a show of nothing but my favorite songs of all time, but at the same time I don't want to repeat that same show each and every year. But it dawned on me earlier today that repeating myself once a year is no big deal! Who remembers what I aired a year ago?

Plus, honestly, while I have not doublechecked, I'm sure this year's birthday celebration of my favorite songs is quite unlike previous editions. My tastes are ever-evolving. Some artists have emerged as new favorites. Others have maybe dropped down a peg or two. Plus, I'll admit to purposely selecting different tunes by perennial favorites. Let's be real. I can play almost any song by bands like The Clash or The Ramones...or almost every band in tonight's show.

As for the "52 weeks of Teenage Kicks", I've got a relative rrity from Hagfish. Originally released on 1995's Happiness EP, it also appeared on European versions of their second album, Hagfish Rocks Your Lame Ass. (And since this was my birthday show, I ended the episode with The Undertones original.

The band scored its only major hit in the fall of 1968 with "Time Has Come Today", an 11-minute opus written by Joe and Willie Chambers and highlighted by echoing vocal effects and Keenan's drumming which gave the song a psychedelic feel. "Time Has Come Today" was edited for release as a single and spent five consecutive weeks in September–October at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100, just missing the Top Ten.

Willie Chambers (born March 3, 1938) is a singer, guitarist, and former member of The Chambers Brothers, a rock band in the 1960s with hits "In The Midnight Hour", "I Can't Turn You Loose", and "Time Has Come Today". He continues to be a regular attraction at various venues in Los Angeles and further afield.

Later incarnations of the group included session guitarist Steve Hunter (known for his work with Alice Cooper) An album recorded in 1972 for Columbia, Oh! My God, has remained unreleased until October 28, 2022 when it was finally made available through multiple digital platforms. Although the group disbanded in 1972, they reformed and moved from Columbia to Avco Records and released Unbonded (1974) and Right Move (1975). In 1976 the brothers released Recorded Live In Concert on Mars for the Roxbury label. They have toured irregularly since.

They were signed to support Maria Muldaur on her Gospel Nights album. They also made commercials for Levi's Jeans.

Originally from Carthage, Mississippi,[3] the Chambers Brothers first honed their skills as members of the choir in their Baptist church. This arrangement ended in 1952 when the eldest brother, George, was drafted into the Army. George relocated to Los Angeles after his discharge, and his brothers soon joined him. Beginning in 1954, the foursome played gospel and folk music throughout the Southern California region, but remained little known until 1965 when they began performing in New York City.

Consisting of George (September 26, 1931 – October 12, 2019) on washtub bass (later on bass guitar Danelectro and Gibson Thunderbird), Lester (b. April 13, 1940) on harmonica, and Willie (b. March 3, 1938) and Joe (b. August 22, 1942) on guitar, the group started to venture outside the gospel circuit, playing at coffeehouses that booked folk acts. They played at places like The Ash Grove, a very popular Los Angeles folk club. It became one of their favorite haunts and brought them into contact with Hoyt Axton, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Reverend Gary Davis, and Barbara Dane.[6] When Dane spotted the brothers there, she knew they would be perfect to do these freedom songs that people wanted to hear then. Dane became a great supporter, performing and recording with the brothers. With the addition of Brian Keenan (January 28, 1943 – October 5, 1985) on drums, Dane took them on tour with her and introduced them to Pete Seeger, who helped put the Chambers Brothers on the bill of the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. One of the songs they performed, "I Got It", appeared on the Newport Folk Festival 1965 compilation LP, which was issued on the Vanguard label.

Lester moved to New York and formed a band with former Electric Flag bassist Harvey Brooks. Guitarists Willie and Joe would find work as session men; George went back to singing gospel music and would later become a deacon of his church. Keenan retired to Stamford, Connecticut where he set up his own recording studio, and died of heart failure in 1985

American Session Drummer, Lee Szymborski, also from Stamford Connecticut, was hired by George Chambers to replace Brian Keenan in 1980, in Los Angeles, CA., and performed live with The Chambers Brothers at the Hollywood Bowl's Fourth Annual Survival Sunday Anti-Nuclear Benefit Concert, with Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Stephen Stills, Bonnie Raitt, Graham Nash, Gary U.S. Bonds, Peter Yarrow, Kenny Rankin and others in Los Angeles, CA. on June 14, 1981. Lee Szymborski also performed live with The Chambers Brothers and Etta James for two shows at McCabe's Guitar Shop, 3101 Pico Blvd. Santa Monica, CA. July 16, 1981. Lee Szymborski left The Chambers Brothers and joined the critically acclaimed Louisiana Cajun group; "The Savery Brothers" in San Diego, CA.; also playing recording sessions notably with Legendary Country Music Artists Merle Haggard, Doug Kershaw, Johnny Paycheck, Asleep at the Wheel, and Juice Newton. Lee Szymborski currently records and performs in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In 2006, guitarist Willie Chambers sat in with a group called Vince and the Invinceables at a benefit concert for Arthur Lee of the group Love and delivered an acclaimed performance.

In 2015, Joe Chambers was appearing at venues such as Harold's Place on Pacific Ave. San Pedro as The Joe Chambers Experience.[

In 2016, Willie, Joe, and occasionally George, along with their nephew Jerry Warner on bass, Crazy Tomes on guitar, and LA drummer Jon McCracken, reformed as the Chambers Brothers to do shows in the Los Angeles area;[20][21] including the Grammy Museum at L.A. Live.[22]

George Chambers died October 12, 2019, at age 88.

Joe Chambers collaborated with Marva Holiday, recording their version of "To Love Somebody".

Summer of Soul

In 2021 the Chambers Brothers appeared in the Questlove music documentary "Summer of Soul," about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival.

Members

In 1970, there was some confusion whether The Chambers Brothers were still with their label, Columbia. The source was an article in the March 28, 1970 issue of Record World. Apparently, singer Judd Hamilton was at a party for an American International Records signing and there was confusion about the Chambers Brothers signing to the label and whether or not Hamilton was a member of the group. The next issue of Record World, (April 4) clarified that The Chambers Brothers were not with the American International label and were still with Columbia Records. It also stated that Hamilton was not a member of The Chambers Brothers.

There was another error, this time by Cashbox magazine, in the April 18 issue. Cliff Chambers who had his own label Cyclone Records and composed “Finders Keepers” and “Somebody Ought to Write a Book” was credited with being a member of The Chambers Brothers while he was signing a contract with Kent Records. The error was picked up and Cashbox wrote in the May 9 issue (Cliff Chambers Not Ex-Chambers) that the group's manager, Charles H. LaMarr said that Cliff Chambers was never a member of the group and that the Chambers' included Joseph Chambers, George Chambers, Willie Chambers and Brian Keenan.

John Castellano joined the band as a guitarist, touring with them during 1971 and 1972. This came about as a result of the brothers finding out that Castellano's mother made the clothes that Jimi Hendrix wore. They headed out to Bath Avenue, in Brooklyn to have the clothes fitted and heard Castellano playing on guitar. Eventually Castellano came on board.

Today’s featured resource is Brevity Magazine’s archive of craft essays.

When the poet Tom Lux revised his own work, he used an approach he referred to as “lenses.” He took multiple passes over a poem but only focused on one aspect per pass. If he was reading the poem through the “cliché lens,” for example, he only looked for clichés. Then he might take another pass with the “verb lens,” looking for passive voice and questioning every verb ending in -ing (e.g. the dubious “looking” and “questioning” in this sentence). Then another pass with the “line break lens,” and so on.

Lux’s approach can be useful for nonfiction writers, too, because it gives you a specific and limited job for each pass. As an added benefit, your understanding of your manuscript and its architecture will deepen with each reading draft, so that after several passes with different lenses, you’ll see the bones of the manuscript more clearly than you could after the first or second read.

Pies have a reputation.

And it’s immediate—no talk of potential

Regarding a pie. It’s good

Or it isn’t, but mostly it is—sweet, very sweet

Right then, right there, blue and red.

It can’t go to junior college,

Work hard for the grades,

Work two jobs on the side.

It can’t slowly build a reputation

And a growing client base.

A pie gets one chance

And knows it, wearing as makeup

Those sparkling granules of sugar,

As a collar those diamond cutouts

Bespeaking Fair Day, felicity, contentment.

I tell you everything is great, says a pie,

Great, and fun, and fine.

And you smell nice, too, someone says.

A full pound of round sound, all ahh, all good.

Pies live a life of applause.

But then there are the other pies.

The leftover pies. The ones

Nobody chooses at Thanksgiving.

Mincemeat? What the hell is that? people ask,

But the unchosen pies have a long history, too.

They have plenty of good stories, places they’ve been—

They were once fun, too—

But nobody wants to listen to them anymore.

Oh sure, everybody used to love lard,

But things have changed, brother—things have changed.

That’s never the end of the story, of course.

Some pies make a break for it—

Live underground for a while,

Doing what they can, talking fast,

Trying to be sweet pizzas, if they’re lucky.

But no good comes of it. Nobody is fooled.

A pie is a pie for one great day. Last week,

It was Jell-O. Tomorrow, it’ll be cake.

Part 1

Time for Mango Ice Cream, I said.

It’s April 29 already. Summer slips by in a jiffy.

The Ice-Trays are still in the Pantry, she said.

I’ll wash them and dry them.

I’ve stewed the slices of the Bambaiyya Alphonso

( Rs 1200 for 6 - Rs 200 for a Mango - would you ever believe it ? )

Lovely slurpy sugary Mangoey Syrup with bits of juicy Pulp

Floating tempting in the Golden Goodness of it

Blended it all with thick creamy Milk -Are you ready?

I asked, and she was, and we poured the mixture

Into the Ice- Cream Tray and put it in the freezer.

I can hardly wait for lunchtime. It’s only 11 o’clock now.

Part 2

It freezes fast. If it doesn’t , I’m happy with a slushy slurry—

Who wouldn’t be ? Mmm- yumm - I’m humming

As I cream the roasted Courgettes with Garlic and season them

With Salt and Oregano and set out Crusty Bread

I can imagine the Dainty Ms Mango Ice- Cream

Turning up her pert tart- sweet Milky Nose

At the garlicky smell of the Courgette Chutney

And saying , “ Wash your hands and gargle

“ Before you sit down to dessert . How do you think

I feel about that Raw Garlic smell ? Ugh ! “

I’m embarrassed at the earthiness of my tastes

But damned if I’m going to gargle in the middle of my meal

I’ll settle for a glass of still earthen-pot cooled drinking water

To clear my palate between courses, though. Lovely lunch.
