while we’re on the subject of birthdays-

can i just talk about billy’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad 18th birthday (that ends not so terribly)

so it starts with steve telling billy he’s really sorry, baby but his parents are dragging him away to visit family during billy’s birthday and there’s nothing he can do to get out of it, so billy’s upset but heather comes to the rescue and says that she’ll do something at her house for him instead

but then

neil says that billy has to be home for his birthday because birthdays are for families and hawkins was supposed to be a fresh start and some other bullshit that all just equates to billy not being able to leave the house on his birthday and he’s obviously upset because now he can’t see steve or his friends

but he agrees anyway because he knows arguing with neil when he has his mind set on something is pointless

and then the 29th rolls around

and billy does stay at home

and everything’s fine

until it isn’t

until billy says something, until neil takes something the wrong way, until billy uses the wrong tone of voice and then suddenly billy’s storming out the house and trying not to cry because he just wanted one good fucking birthday

and billy gets in his car and just drives because he’s in a mood and steve’s out of town and life’s bad and awful and he hates everything and he ends up sat in his car at the quarry, smoking and moping and thinking that nothings ever gonna get better

and then another car pulls up beside him

steve’s car

and billy doesn’t even have time to register what’s happening before steve, heather and robin are climbing out of the car and bundling into the camaro, steve in the passenger seat and the girls in the back

and billy’s like how did you know i was here how is steve here what’s actually happening right now and robin says something about max calling her to tell her billy walked out the house so robin called heather and while they were wondering what to do, steve called and said he made it back early and wanted to surprise billy

and billy’s just sitting there, speechless, taking it all in, bottom lip definitely not wobbling

and that’s when he notices this big ass box robin has balanced on her lap and she opens it for him to see inside and

he just laughs

because in front of him is the wonkiest, most shittily iced cake he’s ever seen in his life, complete with rainbow sprinkles, candles and everything

and then he really does cry

because he’s found his people

and they actually care about him

I wanna quickly thank everyone and all the wishes in the inbox im yet to reply to, you’re all really sweet- I never had such a blow up for my birthday online so I really did bring a tear to my eye to have my 18th, the most important one be celebrated as much as it was. It was really sweet so thank you all again for the wishes and the bits of art 💕✨
