I have a headcanon that in some high schools Sam took a music class and picked up on some piano.

Accepted. Sam always wanted to do something more in high school than just attend, but he couldn’t join a sports team - they’d leave before he even made it through a week of practice. When he saw the grand piano sitting in the choir room of Lake Forest High, he was taken with it immediately. He’d sneak in there during his lunch period, and he quickly made friends with the band director. He taught Sam a few notes, the proper positioning of his hands, and even a simple song or two, but Sam knew he would never learn more than that. Not after John found his sheet music and burned it with some bones on their next case, reminding Sam that anything other than hunting just wasn’t where his head needed to be.
