RACER STAFF - NBC Sports reveals 2020 IndyCar schedule plans

NBC Sports has revealed its content schedule for the 2020 NTT IndyCar Series — its second season as the exclusive broadcast home of IndyCar. NBC Sports is set to provide more than 300 hours of IndyCar action in 2020 across NBC, NBCSN, NBCSports.com, the NBC Sports app and NBC Sports Gold’s INDYCAR Pass, highlighted by the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 24, on NBC. Highlights of NBC Sports’ 2020 IndyCar schedule: NBC Sports’ presentation of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 24, on NBC, NBCSports.com, and the NBC Sports app; Eight total IndyCar races on NBC, including the Grand Prix of Indianapolis on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on Saturday, May 9; the Detroit Dual at Belle Isle on the weekend of May 30-31, and the final two races of the season in Portland, Ore., (Sunday, Sept. 6) and Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif., (Sunday, Sept. 20); Extensive coverage on NBC Sports Gold’s INDYCAR Pass – NBC Sports’ direct-to-consumer live streaming IndyCar product – including live coverage of all practices and qualifying, all Indy Lights races, and on-demand replays. For 2020, NBC Sports has expanded its Indy 500 qualifying coverage, adding a second day of broadcast coverage and two additional hours on NBC. Indy 500 qualifying on Saturday, May 16, will air from 2-5 p.m. ET on NBC, followed by qualifying coverage on Sunday, May 17, on NBC from 1-3 p.m. ET. NUEVA CATEGORÍA PARA EL CAMPEONATO NACIONAL DE AUTOMOVILISMO 2018

En abril 2018 nace la categoría de automovilismo de circuito denominada BTCC (Bracket Touring Car Championship) a competir en el autódromo Pedro Cofiño.

La ahora llamada “BTCC” es un proyecto que durante años varios pilotos entusiastas querían lograr, siendo el 5 y 6 de mayo su primera presentación en el campeonato nacional de automovilismo 2018.

El proyectologró concretarse gracias al apoyo de las autoridades del autódromo y por la iniciativa de los pilotos Marco Bautista, Fernando Wyler y Juan Pablo Diaz, quienes se convirtieron en los directivos a cargo del desarrollo, promoción y administración de la categoría.

Para los directivos de la nueva categoría es “un reto” romper paradigmas respecto al uso de “bracket” o tiempo “limite” en una competencia de circuito. Actualmente ya existe una categoría en el autódromo que compite utilizando un “bracket”, la cual ha tenido mucho éxito.

La BTCC es una categoría profesional que se rige atendiendo reglamentación FIA con excepción del bracket.La categoría se subdivide en BTCA para carros que puedan hacer un tiempo en competencia de hasta de 1.2800 y la categoría BTCB para tiempo de 1.3100.

Los nuevos directivos indicaron: Estamos seguros que el proyecto será un éxito; Lograremos atraer a los pilotos inactivos que tienen sus carros guardados por diversas razones, Asimismo lograremos atraer a pilotos de la categoría iniciación para promoverlos a una categoría superior y principalmente a nuevos pilotos y amantes del deporte. Al establecer un bracket, de cierta forma se regulan los costos de participación lo que la convertirá en categoría perdurable en el tiempo y en el número de participantes, brindándole un espectáculo de primera categoría al público.

En la categoría pueden competir vehículos de tracción delantera o trasera únicamente, que su aspiración sea atmosférica de hasta 3800cc con un máximo 6 cilindros, vehículos sobrealimentados o “turbo” de hasta 2000cc y en todos los casos deben cumplir con tener roll cage o jaula de protección de mínimo 4 puntos de anclaje, cinturones de competencia también de 4 puntos, casco, guantes, hansdevice, traje de competencia antifuego, y principalmente, no exceder del 10% del tiempo de referencia en cada categoría.
