synopsis when missing seungcheol turns into you wearing his sweater and socks. pairing seungcheol x fem reader genre fluff word count 1.3k hani’s note cheol calls reader baby, sweetheart and doll. this idea literally just came into my brain because of me taking a sweater out of my wardrobe…inspo by this reel btw hehe!

his sweaters smell like him. like fresh laundry but also a strong masculine scent. it’s comforting, as if seungcheol is all around you. whenever seungcheol isn’t around, you wear his clothes — whether that be his silly looking socks with characters on them, his shirts or his sweaters — and in a sense, they’re grounding, warm and not to mention so cosy. which is why you lay in bed with his sweater. but now your feet are cold. so, you get out of bed for the top drawer, bracing yourself for the cold biting at your feet and face. at the sight of a folded pair of shark print crew socks (seungcheol’s favourite), you jump back in bed and pull the socks on.

a cold draft sneaks in from somewhere and into the bedroom where you’re laying. every few minutes, you’re wiggling around in the blankets you’ve wrapped yourself in, trying to gain as much heat as possible. that draft is beginning to provoke agitation in you and you wonder if you even closed all the windows.

there is no way you’re going to get up (again) to check in this cold, though. you had switched the radiators on, surely you’ve closed all windows and you had closed the doors to rooms that weren’t in use. this was all in an attempt to keep the heat in because you were starting to freeze.

the clock reads 10:18 PM, seungcheol isn’t home yet. he had shouted a quick ‘don’t wait up, sweetheart!’ before he had left in the morning and yes, you weren’t going to wait for him at first but god, you miss him so bad right now. you don’t think you could fall asleep without seeing him first.

reaching out of the blanket for the remote, you decide that the best thing to pass the time with is to watch something. so, you switch on the tv and flick through before settling on whatever seems interesting enough to hold your attention until seungcheol arrives home.

multiple yawns had left your mouth by 11:06 PM, seungcheol was still not home. you begin to doze off after a few minutes, eyes fluttering closed every few seconds before you open them wide and squeeze them to stay awake.

a key turns in the lock, it reaches your ears and has you alert. seungcheol’s keys jangle and you know that the jangling sound is the little batgirl keychain colliding with the wall as seungcheol plugs the guitar key into the wall mounted key holder (your keys held a batman keychain — seungcheol had bought these for you both, opting to have each other’s characters).

as seungcheol sets his coat in the closet near the front door and his shoes on the wooden shoe rack, he turns around and almost goes to slump onto the couch when he catches you staring at him through the open bedroom door.

seungcheol tilts his head a little and smiles at you, “i thought i had told you not to wait up, sweetheart.”

“i know but i wanted to wait for you.” you watch as he walks out of eyesight and hear the tap run, a glass filling up with water. seungcheol walks into the room as he takes a sip from the glass and then takes a seat on the edge of the bed next to you, the glass hanging from his fingertips where his forearm rested on his thigh.

“you missed me? oh, my baby,” he coos and lifts your hand to his lips and gives it a quick peck. he gulps down another sip of water and there is half left which he gestures for you to drink the rest, “all this waiting for me and i bet you haven’t even hydrated yourself, silly girl.”

you shake your head as the water runs down your throat, “not true, i am so hydrated!”

“really?” seungcheol’s lips twitch, trying not to smile as he notices your dry lips. his hand holds your jaw and his thumb is on your bottom lip, “why are your lips chapped, then?”

at this, your tongue darts out to lick at your lips, “what do you mean?”

seungcheol shakes his head, he reaches for the vanity table drawer and takes out a lip balm. its cherry flavoured, his favourite. you set down the glass on the bedside table.

his hand tilts your chin and applies the lip balm to your lips and oh, that concentrated look on his beautiful face. lips parted, eyes shining and focused on your lips, trying so hard to not get the balm anywhere other than your lips.

and when he’s done, he asks you to rub your lips to together so that the balm is spread evenly. he watches you intently as you follow his instructions.

seungcheol carefully moves your head around (at this point, you’re just letting him do whatever, it’s endearing to watch him do things like this) to check that the balm hadn’t smudged anywhere else then he lets go, “there, all done! now, make sure you drink a lot of water if you don’t want chapped lips, okay?”

you nod your head slowly as a response and he gets up to put the lip balm away. seungcheol turns around and squints at you, “are you wearing my sweater?”

“huh? yeah, it was getting cold and also, i missed you,” you explain, “wearing your socks too!”

he looks at the end of the bed where you stick out your feet from the blanket, “you can have all of my sweaters and socks if you look that adorable in them, doll.”

the nickname makes your heart skip a beat. doll. it sounds lovely coming from his pretty lips.

seungcheol smiles and you reach for his hands which he gives. you tug with all the strength you have to quickly press your lips to seungcheol’s, pulling back with an audible ‘mwah’ and you make sure that the lip balm he applied had transferred to his lips too.

seungcheol’s dimples form on both cheeks as he laughs with his gummy smile. full cheeks become rosy and seungcheol shrinks a little in his place. every time you pull your little ‘mwah’ trick, seungcheol gets so shy and you love it. you adore his shyness.

“you’re so silly,” seungcheol ruffles your hair, “i’ll go get changed, be right back,” he pinches your cheek and leaves the room.

when seungcheol re-enters the room, you immediately raise a corner of the blanket to invite him over. he climbs onto the bed, except not next to you. seungcheol hovers over you then lowers himself down onto your chest, his legs between yours and his arms going under yours to hug you.

your heart melts at the sight of his head on your chest, being able to feel his chest rising and falling against your own and his hair tickling the base of your neck which you run your hand through, giving him a slight massage. reaching for the blanket you threw to the side, you pull it over both your bodies to stay warm.

“good day at work, cherry?”

seungcheol’s chest vibrates as he hums, “yeah, and jeonghan dragged me to dinner and he paid, can you believe that? i mean, he always ‘forgets’ his wallet at home!”

seungcheol’s after work stories never fail to make you giggle. it’s the way he tells them with big eyes and even acts them out sometimes.

after the laughter stops from both of you, seungcheol speaks up again, “but i’m tired after that. i would have been home earlier to cuddle with you but jeonghan…” he laughs again, “he wouldn’t let me go! now, i just wanna lay like this with you.”

“yeah? i got you, i’m right here,” you rub his back under the blanket and seungcheol moves his head to kiss your collarbone.

a few minutes later, you’re positive that seungcheol has fallen asleep with the way he becomes heavier and heavier the deeper he sleeps — you feel like your hugging an actual bear — so you give him a quick kiss to his forehead and hold him closer to you before dozing off just after him.

First off, I am mildly annoyed that Arlong doesn’t have a last/family name, soooooo……..

Hani and Arlong decided to use Arlong’s sobriquet “Saw” as a family name.

Without further ado…

——Taro and Tiger Saw——

Taro Saw is the eldest of Hani and Arlong’s many children. He is the only of their children to share a fishman type with anyone in the family. He definitely takes after Arlong in more than just looks; he definitely has his attitude, too!

Taro takes no shit, on either his behalf or his family’s. If anyone makes the mistake of dissing his family (or friends), they’re gonna find out just how sharp that nose is!

While he can be aggressive, he also has a very kind heart. When he’s not out n about with his siblings and friends, he’s home helping Hani around the house or anyone else that needs help.

Tiger Saw, named after the hero of the Fishman District. He is more timid than his siblings, but he makes up for it with his soulful and empathetic nature.

Tiger’s name is not only for Fisher Tiger, but also because he is a tiger shark fishman. Hani and Arlong knew they wanted to name at least one child after Ti, and there was no way they could pass up naming their lil tiger shark Tiger.

Tiger usually likes to spend his time quietly, either reading or taking long peaceful walks through the sea forest. He always makes sure to meditate on positive mantras twice a day, hoping that his positive thinking will somehow seep into the rest of the world.

Taro and Tiger are particularly close. Taro knows his little brother is sensitive, and he’d die before he let anyone take advantage of that. 😤

“Now, no peeking!”

Came the muffled voice of the host king as half of his body was engulfed inside a giant, velvety red bag.  He yanked his head back out and with an exasperated expression, he adjusted his Santa Claus beard and hat.  “Your gift—Kyoya…I know it's in here somewhere.” The blond dove back into the Santa bag in search of the gift.

“You think Santa would keep him if we stuffed him in there and mailed him off to the North Pole?” Hikaru glanced over at his brother who was snickering at the comment. “Not funny!”  Tamaki cried from inside the bag; he couldn’t see but he could still hear!

It was Christmas Eve—Japan’s romantic view of this festive night was not lost on Tamaki.  The host club decided to put on their own magical wonderland; Mori was dressed as a reindeer while Hani wore green elf attire.  The twins dressed as twin marionette toys, and Haruhi looked like a Christmas angel, much to her chagrin–she refused the Mrs. Claus outfit outright. Likewise, Kyoya refused to wear the head elf costume Tamaki had picked out. 

“Senpai, maybe you left it at home?” Haruhi pointed out while the blond dug deeper and deeper into the bag only to come up empty again.  A frown marred the prince’s handsome features as he looked longingly into the bag. “Maybe I did—I’m sorry, Kyoya.” Tamaki looked over at his best friend dejectedly. 

“Hey boss! No need to look so glum,” Hikaru began, “Yeah���you know there are other ways to show your love and appreciation for someone on Christmas eve.” Kaoru finished.  They walked around Tamaki like sharks swimming around a stranded swimmer. 

“What do you mean–?” The blond asked warily; he couldn’t trust these two. 

“You knoooow, the age-old tradition of…,” Hikaru glanced at his brother and Kaoru produced a green leafy sprig, tied with a red string at the end. “Mistletoe.”  The twins said in unison.  Mistletoe?  Tamaki glanced over at Kyoya, and a dark blush tinted his cheeks.  The blond yanked his Santa beard from his face. “No way!!”

“Who knows, maybe it would set a good example for the children to see Mommy and Daddy kiss–just a thought. Why, are you afraid?”  Hikaru shrugged his shoulders and smirked at their illustrious king. It wasn’t that Tamaki was afraid, it wasn’t uncommon in European cultures to share affection in such a way–a peck on the cheek wasn’t a big deal, even between two men.  "No!! That's not it at all!" Tamaki cried. However, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of nervousness at the thought of kissing his best friend.  His stomach felt like it held a million fluttering butterflies inside.

Still…he had forgotten Kyoya’s gift at home.  He was able to give everyone else their gifts, except his best friend and that thought alone ate away at the blond; he had to do something. 

With a huff, Tamaki snatched the mistletoe from Kaoru and strode over to Kyoya.  Tamaki gently grabbed Kyoya’s chin and—with his other hand—held the mistletoe high above their heads.  The blond leaned in close and brushed his cheek against Kyoya’s before he placed a soft kiss on his best friend’s cheek. He lingered there a second longer than what was necessary; Tamaki pulled back and looked into Kyoya's slate-grey eyes. He offered his best friend a bright and genuine smile.   “Merry Christmas, mon ami.”

Some may asks, why do such a brief moment could leave a giant print in your heart? (Well,nobody asked. Never tell anyone about my problems,except J. Told hani but it is just because i had to go cgk with her 😂. This is the reasons why i need a journal. I need to empty my brain every now and then to keep me sane) OK, back to the question. Simple. It is something you longed for your whole life. And it's happening! This is the reason why i decided to write it in a journal. I'm afraid one day when i wake up, the memories are fading and i thought it was a dream.

Well, now it's the second day in CGK. Starting my day with 'pemandangan indah di pagi hari' went to his house early in the morning so we could go to work together. He.... Welcomed me..... TOPLESS!!! Glad the pants is on. Or i wish it is not? HAHAHAAHA. Ok, serious mode. First things that i noticed: electronic cigar n Ash tray. I thought he quitted? But didnt asked anything tho. Dont ask something people doesnt want to tell you. Next : piles of laundry. Cant help myself not ironing them. Its the least I can do, it might help him for another few days ahead. When i stood in the centre of the room, with this thought in my head, he approached me. I unconsciously hugged him 🫣😶‍🌫️ he told me, my friends are coming down soon. Malunya smpe ke ubun2 wakk 🤣🤣 so embarassing! Ck!

While doing the laundry, apparently he put decolgen n panadol on my backpack. 🥹 si pendiam yg perhatian sekali sih ternyataaaa. He didnt say anything too, just simply put it there. 😭😭 so so sweeetttt. The next sweet thing :koper juga uda masuk mobil ternyata! 🤣 amazing! No talk, action only! 😂😂

next, breakfast. Stopped by Indomaret to get coffee he said. But he sneaked out to ATM. 🤣🤣 caught him in action. What is wrong with going to ATM? 😂😂 my wallet almost empty everyday 🤣🤣 heading to mie bagan yutek. it is the first time i have it and i love it. 😂 my tastebud is more to savory sweet and this one match my preference. Things that i noticed from him while eating : freaking neat 🤭 one of Virgo traits, as bert is also like that. He wiped his table when a single drop of the soup spilled. 🤣 is he nervous or he is actually like that? The way he sit and eat also catch my attention 🫠 when i talk to him while he is eating, he didnt lift up his body or head but only his eyes and eyebrow and his mouth is full of food but stop munching 😂😂 he did that most of the time when we were eating. He eats slow, while me, eating like hungry shark 😂 i always eat quick, no time to lose! 😂

done with the food, he sent me to serpong, park his car anddddddd... He did sth i didnt expect at all. Shocked and blushed of course! 😳😳😳😳 he did it once before, that was quick and very light one. This oneeee., hmmm.. A bit more powerful than before but still short. 😂 understandable, since it is in a broad daylight, public places, needs lot of courage to do so 😂 im so nervous and avoid eye contact with him 😂😂

Skipped to the evening, he came to fetch us after work, send us to have dinner and go play soccer. Highlight : this silly fangirling thing I have, im happy to be able to hold and hug his backpack 😂😂 girl! Come on! 🫨🫨 then another highlight, he gave me an orange. 😂 so random! I kept it and eat it after I reached home.

After dinner, get back to hotel, prepare for ajeb2, me being pickup by his friends, awkward situation actually, but I'm mastering the art of breaking the ice . Talked a lot to them and after we reached there, si anak bauk kencur ini, didnt know that nobody, NOBODY brings backpack to club 🤣 Yok has asked me do i need to leave the backpack in the car. But i insist, I'll carry it. LOL.

Then while waiting for him, I talked a lot, drank a lot, but good things is, yok keeps reminding me to drink water to keep me sober. After a while, finally J came! He sits right next to me, looking at me with this look. Arghh! I meltttt🫠🫠🫠 rasanya pengen kuterkam 😂😂 then of course after dison come, he keep pouring drink for me and asked for toast. The moment i realized i started to drunk is when i stood up next to J and cant control myself for not hugging him and start sniffing his neck 😂 i feel aroused by the music's beat but then i tried to sober up and go back to my seat. Not long after, i asked him to go back to the hotel. He drove so fast. Me, scared to death and sober up instantly 🤣

The rest of the night will be off the record. Too many highlights i wish i could write here. Okay, spilling one of them : 내 인생에서 가장 긴 키스를 했어요. I just cant stop. 😂 everything is so lovey dovey, leaving me sweet memories, perfect image of him and now, he turned out to be like this, hmm.. I just cant relate. Which one is the real J? I have warned him for not being too sweet but he ended up bewitching me. Ck!

“seungcheol!”

seungcheol copies you and shouts back, “doll!”

“can you come here, please?”

he doesn’t answer but you can hear shuffling which is probably him getting up from the couch and slipping his feet into his shark slippers.

when seungcheol walks through to the room you’re in, you hold up the bow you made in the air, letting out a small ‘ta-da’.

seungcheol smiles at the way you hold the pink ribbon, “this is so cute, doll, you made it yourself?”

“mhm!” you straighten up at the paise and smile proudly.

“‘s super cute, just like you” he pinches your cheek and pulls it a little, making you scrunch your nose. you whisper a ‘thank you’, shy at his sweet words all of a sudden.

“hey, can you give me your arm for a second, please?” seungcheol gives you a confused look but holds out his arm for you.

you take his arm in your hand, wondering how to make it work with the black button up he’s wearing. maybe, he could fold his sleeve up?

“cheol, can you roll up your sleeve?”

he does as you request, unbuttoning the buttons on his cuff and sliding the sleeve up. with how big his bicep is, his sleeve doesn’t go up as far as you would like so you suggest he takes his arm out of the shirt altogether.

seungcheol lets his shirt hang on the other shoulder after taking his arm out of the sleeve. you think you might start drooling at the sight but pop the thought bubble and get back to what you wanted to do.

unraveling the ribbon, you take it under his arm and remake it into the shape of a bow. the pink against the tan skin of his thick bicep, veins running down the arm. you’re sure there’s some type of unexplainable feeling stirring in your stomach. and it’s sort of mesmerising to look at the contrast between his bulging muscle and the tiny pink ribbon. you almost groan out of frustration at how seungcheol never fails to look so attractive.

“is this what you wanted to do, doll?” he moves his arm to look at the bow you made. you don’t answer, still staring.

“sweetheart, you’re staring,” his hand goes to your chin to lift your head, both your eyes meeting.

“oh…sorry,” you say, quietly. seungcheol’s eyes seem to be searching for something in yours, moving back and forth. pushing down on your toes to tiptoe, you reach up to seungcheol’s face to kiss his soft lips. it’s not a desperate kiss, just a quick one but you push your lips hard against his. when you pull back, your head finds its place in the crook of seungcheol’s shoulder and your arms around his neck.

his hand comes to rest on your back and his other on your waist, “is something wrong, doll? hm?”

because of the way your bodies are pressed together, his voice vibrates through his body and onto yours when he speaks, and the hand that was resting on your waist now running up and down your side makes you shiver yet somehow it doesn’t bother you.

“nothing. y’ just so pretty, cherry,” you mumble into his neck. seungcheol can feel the way your lips brush against his skin as you speak but he doesn’t move even if it tickles him.

“thank you, sweetheart,” he presses a quick kiss to the side of your head, “so are you, you’re the prettiest girl in the world.”

seungcheol’s words make you shrink in his hold and he can tell. his words definitely have an effect on you, an effect so huge, it makes you want to curl into a ball in the corner of the room.

“my pretty girl.”

My Top Songs of 2019

It’s that time of the year again when I take a look back at all the great music that was released throughout the year and choose my top 10.  Quick disclaimer as usual: These are not what I think are the best songs of the year.  They’re not even my favorite songs of the year.  They’re simply the top 10 songs that have defined my year.  (See the end if you’re interested in the rules of the selection of this top 10; also, most of this was written in 2019 but some was written in 2020).

10. “Think About Us” - Little Mix featuring Ty Dolla $ign

“When you're dancin' in the club And the nights are getting hard Do you think about us?”

Everyone knows that I have a weakness for girl groups.  UK’s Little Mix isn’t exactly my favorite, but admire how strongly they’ve stuck together as a group.  Their chemistry is undeniable, both as people and as vocalists.  To me, “Think About Us” was the standout track from last year’s LM5, and the addition of Ty Dolla $ign was the little shove it needed to be great.  The girls shine with their vocal prowess both on their solos and together on the chorus, and Ty$’s verse splits the track nicely.  The accompanying video is mesmerizing.  Each of the girls look absolutely stunning, and they have individual sets representing the different parts of a relationship, with Perrie as the butterflies-in-my-stomach beginning and Jade as the icy, cold end.  The lyrics are quite vague, but I think that’s the intention.  It’s applicable to any stage of a relationship; it could be a love song or a break-up song.  With it’s fun beat, it’s hard to pick if you want to dance to it, belt it out, or try to do both, but it’s definitely been an infectious part of 2019!

9. “Lonely for You” - Armin van Buuren featuring Bonnie McKee

“No, you're never gonna see me cry I already got a brand new life Don't you know I'm moving on And everyday I'm stronger? I don't even know you're gone”

The Netherlands’ Armin van Buuren has a recipe to get trance music to pull at your heart, and one piece that makes this apparent is “Lonely for You.”  With the assist from US’s pop hit writer Bonnie McKee, this track is different yet familiar, a haunting disconnect to match the mixed feelings of the lyrics.  From light synths to disco-esque drums to pure piano, Van Buuren’s track pushes and pulls the same way the tumultuous narrator’s lyrics go back and forth, with McKee’s vocals surfing on the top.  The music video has a couple choreography emphasizing the push-and-pull theme, and McKee looks fantastic as usual.  Van Buuren’s Balance is full of more emotionally-rich tracks for both happy and sad times, many of which utilize beautiful piano to highlight amazing vocals.  “Lonely for You” is an altogether addictive track that was perfect for all the lonely nights of 2019.

8. “Antidote” - Mr Hudson

“You of all people After all we've been through Started out an angel And now you get away with murder”

As a huge fan of the UK’s Mr Hudson, I waited basically a decade for his sophomore album, and it did not disappoint.  While When the Machine Stops features several tearjerking songs, “Antidote” is on the next level.  The song takes the subject of betrayal and perfectly captures how trust can die.  The genius is in its simplicity.  Not a single instrument starts until the entire first verse is complete, letting the lyrics speak for themselves.  Even when the instruments do come in, it’s just soft percussion and synths.  As much as I love vocal runs and ad-libs galore, the straightforward melody had me humming this song for much of 2019.

7. “Me & You” - EXID

“Oh 야야야 더 이상 우리라는 말 하지 마마마 안 봐도 뻔하잖아 야임 마마마 지금 날 어디서 속이려 들어 그건 네 엄마마마 한테나 가서해 baby I don't care”

As I mentioned in last year’s post, 2018 was the year I fell in love with K-Pop, mostly due to Blackpink at the time.  As much as I love Blackpink (and got to see them live this year!), their limited discography didn’t leave much to be loved.  Enter EXID.  This group is stacked: arguably South Korea’s best female rapper in the game LE, one of the best vocalists Solji, and the girl who is absolutely beautiful, sexy, cute, and smart all at the same time Hani (who may or may not be my ultimate bias, sorry Rosé).  Their previous single “I Love You” missed my 2018 list because it was released so late in the year, but it turned out to be my most played song on Spotify this year.  In fact, several of their songs were on that list.  Like many of their previous singles, “Me & You” is an infectious dance track utilizing each member where they excel: Hani with her soft, sultry vocals, a splash of LE’s sick flows to split up the song, Hyelin’s powerhouse vocals to bring up the first chorus, Solji’s even more powerful vocals to take the song to its climax, and Jeonghwa on the dance break (low key kinda sounds like she’s singing “Baby Shark” but that’s a jam too I guess).  The duality of the track is what makes it stand out, with the pretty vocals and simple verses largely contrasting from the deep and dirtier synths of the dance break.  The video plays with this duality by featuring EXID as brides in white versus clubbing in neon.  The rest of the WE mini album isn’t quite as dance-y but is fun to vibe to nonetheless.  The group unfortunately may be over, since Hani and Jeonghwa are leaving their record label, but they’re at least sticking together for their activities in Japan for now.  So many more K-Pop hits were released this year, some of my favorites being Mamamoo’s “Gogobebe,” SEVENTEEN’s “HIT,” Super Junior D&E’s “Danger,” Park Bom’s “Spring,” KARD’s “Dumb Litty,” NCT 127′s “Highway to Heaven”, NCT Dream’s “Boom”, Ong Seongwu’s “Heart Sign,” and another release to be mentioned later on this list.

6. “Heartbreak” - Hunter Hayes

“Another, ‘Almost perfect’ Didn't work, but totally worth it Better to have loved and lost my mind Than lose the nerve to even try”

I remember watching the 2013 Grammy’s and watching Hunter Hayes lose all three of his nominations, at that point becoming the “Leonardo DiCaprio never wins an Oscar” meme to me and my friends.  He went on to lose two more nominations, but honestly, I always liked his music (and Grammy nominations are no small feat in the first place!).  While 2017 was technically the year I had my first date and 2018 was the year I had my first girlfriend, 2019 was the year that I really put myself out there and dated the most.  And yes, there was a lot of awkwardness and stupidity and mostly me messing up, but that’s just a part of life.  And “Heartbreak” perfectly captures all those feelings.  From the guitar to the bit of twang to the drums, this song is unabashedly fun country, and the optimistic lyrics always made me feel better.  It’s like a c’est la vie Rascal Flatts’ “Bless the Broken Road” before he found the girl. The accompanying video is also fun with a groundhog day theme as he tries to win over a girl.  The album as a whole is a fun listen, with “Dear God” being the other Wild Blue (Part I) standout to me.  Here’s hoping Part II comes out with some vibes in 2020!

5. “Tempo” - Lizzo featuring Missy Elliott

“He look like he could gain a little weight Lick the icing off, put the rest in your face”

Lizzo exploded this year, and I’m not mad about it.  She has confidence and charisma galore, and her resulting music is mad bouncy, earning her several Grammy nominations for next year, including Best New Artist.  Her songs like most of Cuz I Love You can be quite loud and in-your-face, which is fine, just not exactly my style.  However, get her on this more subdued R&B beat and throw in a Missy Elliott feature, I’m in.  This will make any upbeat R&B lover dance, and the music video is the kind of hot and fun you would expect (with a cowboy hat you may not expect).  Missy also made an imprint this year with Iconology which is her first group release since 2005′s The Cookbook.  I’ve always been a fan of her work, and this is a perfect feature for her.

4. “NONE of this has been about you” - Spencer Sutherland

“I'm afraid that you would hate me if you knew, That I've become insensitive, It's true, But even if you do”

Spencer Sutherland’s “NONE of this has been about you” off his debut EP of the same name has a lot of elements about it that I would personally want in a song of my own.  It starts off with a very simple piano and vocals with a tinge of soul.  As he continues to sing, he puts more soul and emotion into his voice, and splashes of harmonies start to come in.  A couple short riffs later and just a second before the drop.  Although, it’s not a dance drop.  A choir drops in for the chorus with some drums to announce that, in fact, none of this has been about you.  The song eventually escalates to Sutherland’s soaring ad-libs over the choir.  Beyond the musical stylings, I enjoy the message of this song.  Sure, the narrator is telling someone, possibly his lover, that his struggles are personal and not something she or he should worry about, but I also like to take it as a reminder not to always worry about others or what they are thinking.  For example, 2019 was the first full year I had an ex, and a lot of that time, I was worried about posting on social media because maybe she’ll think this or that is about her.  Honestly, I don’t recall ever “subtweeting” about her.  We’re good.  Any breakup song or black and white photo I post has nothing to do with her.  So this song is a nice reminder to keep it pushing and stay in your own lanes.  The remaining songs on Sutherland’s EP were all also on repeat throughout the year.  The man’s just got a solid voice, and I’m glad he’s continuing a soulful pop sound that is rarer than before.

3. “Beautiful goodbye” - Chen

“다시 시간을 되돌려 처음 만난다면 가로등 옆에 서 있지 말아요 미소 짓지도 왼손으로 머릴 넘기지 마요 그래야 내가 그대를 지나칠 테니까”

Now, when it comes to a piano and vocals, nothing dominated my year more than Chen, especially his debut solo single “Beautiful goodbye.”  I won’t repeat all the reasons why I love his voice so much (see last year’s post), but long story short, he’s my favorite male vocalist right now.  Don’t get me wrong, I love EXO and the energy they bring to their songs, but a full EP of just Chen really lets the listener feel his artistry, pulling on heartstrings every which way.  In this song, the narrator is recognizing that his relationship is dead but proposing that they can hold onto it just for a bit longer until they peacefully part in spring.  There’s a respect to their relationship and what it has done for them that they can take with them as separate people before they part ways.  Chen’s voice takes the listener on an adventure, starting soft and simple then escalating and crescendoing to unveil the hardened pain in his voice.  It’s not a sudden angry breakup, it’s more subtle and more somber.  In the end, his soft vibrato and the final notes of the piano leave the listener in just as an uncertain position as the narrator; is it better to hope it stays winter forever or hope for spring to come?  While I also wanted some upbeat songs from Chen, his April, and a flower EP followed by Dear my dear is chockfull of beautiful and emotional ballads.

2. “Never-ending Summer” - Cyn

“What if we don't ever have to say goodbye? I wanna keep living like we'll never die If you're mad then I'm mad too You're crying, I'm sad too I'll watch your back for you, watch mine”

Newcomer Cyn’s “Never-ending Summer” is, to me, an experience.  It took me a while to appreciate its simplicity, but then it became so addictive that it itself became never-ending.  The guitar or synth (or whatever that instrument is) plays on loop to emphasize the never-ending nature of the song and gives a dreamy vibe that’s somehow both modern and reminiscent of the 70s.  Cyn’s simple vocals evoke a carefree feeling reminiscent of running on the beach and all the accompanying imagery with her photoshoot and lyric video.  It makes sense that Cyn is part of Katy Perry’s record label Unsub Records, as this song feels somewhat like Perry’s hits off of Teenage Dream including “California Gurls” and the title track, albeit much more in Cyn’s own understated style.  This summer, I learned how to surf and have fallen deeper in love with the beach (even though a stingray stung me my last time there), and this song would keep the surfing mentality continuing throughout the year, even when it gets too cold for it to be summer (or, even if my foot is bleeding to death).  Doesn’t hurt that Cyn is unbelievably cute too.

1. “Lovebird” - Far East Movement featuring Lay

“I can sleep here alone, but you know it's better with you You could be by yourself, but you know it's better with two”

As I grow as a person and become more proud of who I am, I think it makes sense for me to become more proud of my Asian heritage as well as support Asians and Asian-Americans out there, especially in the music industry as music means a great deal to me.  That said, it’s important to me that I don’t support people just because they’re Asian as if it’s some kind of nepotism.  That kind of segregating mentality can also be unhealthy.  Far East Movement are technically a one hit wonder; they have yet to outdo their 2010 hit “Like a G6.”  However, this year I found out about their record label Transparent Music that has been around since 2016 with a goal of unifying eastern and western music.  Their previous album aptly named Identity features a ton of artists from both sides of the word, from Hyolyn and Loco to Macy Gray and Soulja Boy (shoutout to my favorite song on that album, “Freal Luv” featuring Tinashe and yet another EXO member, Chanyeol).  To me, music is about unification.  It is about bringing a deeper understanding through melody and rhythm.  Those are the simplest terms I can put it.  I hope this is evident through this list that I appreciate people and music from all kinds of backgrounds.  Even if my tastes lean one way or another from year to year, I hope my lists maintain diversity and well-roundedness.  Somehow, Far East Movement has managed to capture this sense of unification in “Lovebird,” featuring Chen’s EXO bandmate from China, Lay.  It’s not the most complex song; in fact, like many songs on this list, it’s quite simple.  The synth bends in a carefree way that celebrates togetherness along with the lyrics, and I find that beautiful.  2019 was a year of growth and life, and “Lovebird” was the perfect song to accompany it.

I really enjoy that post where it's obilgatory for all new Nanba inmates to either get their nails painted, put on gloves, or bandage their hands because that's just a thing they do there. I also like the chibis Futamata Shou made of Cell 13 painting their own nails. Nana's not much good at nail polish, so he'd have to have someone do it for him so they don't turn out a mess.

And yes, Nana is terrified and obviously unfit to lead a gang. Not quite for reasons Kiji imagines though...

The Naming of Nana

I wrote a thing. Sorry it’s so long. I decided to post it separately in case anyone else wanted to read it, because idk if other people can read stuff I put in reblogs.

All characters belong to Futamata Shou. I just wrote about them.

Kiji tapped his foot impatiently as he waited in the hallway.

Honestly, it was almost the middle of the night, how come the transfer was taking this long?

He’d been waiting here for over an hour for his newest inmate to be brought in from Strangeday Hall. His poor, beautiful Cell 6 were probably getting restless waiting for him to return with their new member.

Hani hadn’t taken the news too well that they were going to have another person in their cell, pouting unhappily even when Kiji had offered to let him use the bathroom first the next morning. Still, it was understandable; that child had a routine he liked, and was wary when something new came along and disrupted his pattern.

That was of the reason no. 0341 and no. 0319 had to be moved out after two weeks and a month respectively in Cell 6. The arguments between them and Hani over living arrangements just became too much to bear.

Trois had promised to be on his best behavior and look after his new cell mate, the darling, but he always did that. Even when the pretty face turned out to be an awful lout, like no. 0396, Trois was always the bigger and more beautiful man and came to his supervisor rather than sink to their level.

Still, Kiji supposed, at least those inmates were good-looking enough to get into Cell 6 in the first place. The number of times he’d been told a new inmate would be good-looking, only for them to be slightly above average in person, made him want to scream.

Hopefully, there would be no such problems with Johnny Powers, no. 07, when he arrived.

If he ever arrived that is.

Finally, the buzzer on the door to the outside sounded. The massive steel contraption opened, and a pair of guards marched the new inmate in.

“At last! What took you so long to get him here?! Don’t you know I hate to be kept waiting?!” He scolded them.

One of the guards saluted. “Apologies Supervisor Mitsuba, sir! The transfer ship ran into rough conditions and its arrival was delayed. It only arrived five minutes ago, sir!”

He sighed. “Well, I suppose that can’t be helped, no matter how annoying it is…” and turned to examine at his new inmate.

Kiji’s first reaction was disappointment.

He’d been told no. 07 had the looks of an angel. This child’s features were fairly delicate and soft, but the awful, awful haircut he sported almost ruined the whole image! Long in the sides and stupidly short in the back to accommodate for the large “7” tattoo, who had ever thought cutting in bangs almost at his hairline was a good idea?! Seriously, Kiji thought he could see flecks of red where whoever had done this got too close to the boy’s ears!

The “7” looked fairly raw as well, as though the tattoo had just been done recently. That might explain the partial blotchiness of the boy’s face and the prominent bags under his eyes if he had been crying during the procedure.

Kiji felt like he would cry if he had been given such an atrocious haircut as well.

“Johnny Powers, inmate no. 07?”

“Y-yes sir.” His Japanese, though heavily-accented, was accurate and added to his “foreign” appeal at least.

The look of abject terror on his face wasn’t particularly attractive though. His eyes were large enough without fear widening them to such an unsettling degree, staring up at the supervisor like a mouse pinned under a hawk’s gaze.

The child trembled violently under Kiji’s scrutiny, little hands clenched into white fists at his sides. When the supervisor reached out to grab one, the boy flinched away from the gesture, cringing in fear as though he expected a blow to come.

Kiji blinked. He had thought corporal punishment was banned in juvenile detention centers in the United Kingdom.

But, then again, Powers was a special case. The youngest and most prominent gang leader in London’s criminal underground, only recently recaptured after violently breaking out of Strangeday Hall and murdering a fairly incompetent private eye in a smuggling bust gone wrong.

The idea that some of the guards at Strangeday might want to repay the thirteen-year-old for the casualties of his escape, while repulsive and a breach of conduct to the Supervisor of Building 3, was not entirely out of the question. There were not any visible bruises, but it had been a few weeks since he had left that facility, so any that were inflicted there probably would have healed by now.

There was some arguement in his file over whether Powers was truly the mastermind behind the violent subjugation of nearly all of his rival gangs in England and abroad, or if he was simply a puppet leader for the less promienet adult members of his organization (including his own mother), who could offer him up as a convenient scapegoat should the need arise.

Based on the shuddering and teary-eyed child before him, Kiji was becoming more and more inclined to agree with the latter assessment. He reached out again, slowly this time, and gently took 07’s hand in his own, peeling the fist open with little resistance.

His nails were unpainted and had clearly never seen a manicure before in their existence. They weren’t bitten short, thank goodness, (Kiji could never stand nail-biters), but the uneven edges and hangnails showed that they had never been cared for as they should either.

The supervisor of Building 3 considered his options briefly.

No. 07, while not the cherub the reports had promised, was just good-looking enough to qualify for Cell 6.

If Kiji were to take him under his wing, he could easily keep an eye on the boy and monitor him for signs of sociopathy (if he truly was the one in control of his gang) or mental abuse (if he was more of a puppet than first suspected).

If he decided to place him in another cell, or send him to another building, he could maintain his high standards for his beautiful Cell 6 and save himself some stress in dealing with a potentially troublesome inmate. But he would not have as much access to view the child’s day-to-day mental state as he would if he kept the boy in the cell he personally oversaw.

The monkey probably would not be interested in adding an unrelated— and possible rival— gang member to his mostly rehabilitated collection.

The dog spent most of his time down in solitary keeping the combusting inmate company, and Kiji was not sure the actual dogs he employed would be much help if the boy had a psychotic episode or a mental breakdown.

If no. 07 were placed in Building 13 on reassignment…well, the gorilla was known for his brutality more than his delicacy when handling his inmates. Plus the inmates themselves…

Kiji sighed. The things he did for beauty. “My name is Kiji Mitsuba. I am supervisor of Building 3 here at Nanba Prison, and will be personally overseeing your rehabilitation in Cell 6. Nice to meet you, no.0307.”

The boy gulped and bowed his head. “I-it is n-nice to meet y-you too, S-supervisor Mitsuba-San.”

Well, at least the child knew how to be properly respectful in Japanese, even if his speech was a bit formal.

“Now!” Kiji clapped his hands together, making 0307 jump. “While your hair seems to be completely unsalvageable until it grows out a little more, we’ll have to focus on bringing out your natural qualities that whoever committed this crime against beauty tried to hide. You’re part of the beautiful Cell 6 now, and like it or not, we beautiful people have an image to maintain in order to shine for those around us.”

The fear in 0307’s face slackened a bit, as surprise began seeping into his features for some reason. “…y-You actually think I’m b-beautiful, sir?”

Kiji raised an eyebrow. Of all the reactions he had been expecting, that had not been one of them. Most of his inmates knew how beautiful they were and exactly how to flaunt their good looks. Had 0307 never been told about how people idolized his looks to the point of exaggeration?

The disbelief in the child’s expression and words wasn’t explained by that alone though. It was almost as though 0307 believed himself to be average—or even ugly.

Kiji’s decision was steeled. Of all the crimes he could not forgive, forcing a beautiful person to believe that they were not was one that really set his blood boiling. “Of course! Only beautiful people are allowed to enter Cell 6, and you definitely fit the criteria! We just need to tidy you up a bit before introducing you to the your new cellmates, and then you’ll be perfect.”

Shock consumed the boy’s features. Then, like a rose opening its petals to the sun, he blushed. “T-thank you very much, Supervisor Mitsuba-San.”

“Please, Mitsuba-San is my father. Call me Kiji.” The guard smiled, and opened the door to the rest of the prison. “0307 is a bit of a mouthful though. You deserve something much cuter…how about “Nana”?“

0307 paused and mouthed the name to himself. "I-I think I would like that very much, Kiji-San.”

“Nana-chan it is then. What color would you like for your nails, blue or brown?” The third inmate of Cell 6 eagerly followed Kiji through the door, looking a little less scared than he had before.

One month before the 2016 U.S. presidential election, an “Access Hollywood” recording of Donald Trump was released in which he was heard lewdly talking about women. The then-candidate and his campaign apologized and dismissed the remarks as harmless.

At the time, the authenticity of the recording was never questioned. Just two years later, the public finds itself in a dramatically different landscape in terms of believing what it sees and hears.

Advances in artificial intelligence have made it easier to create compelling and sophisticated fake images, videos and audio recordings. Meanwhile, misinformation proliferates on social media, and a polarized public may have become accustomed to being fed news that conforms to their worldview.

All contribute to a climate in which it is increasingly more difficult to believe what you see and hear online.

There are some things that you can do to protect yourself from falling for a hoax. As the author of the upcoming book “Fake Photos,” to be published in August, I’d like to offer a few tips to protect yourself from falling for a hoax.

1. Check if the image has already been debunked

Many fake images are recirculated and have previously been debunked. A reverse image search is a simple and effective way to see how an image has previously been used.

Unlike a typical internet search in which keywords are specified, a reverse image search on Google or TinEye can search for the same or similar images in a vast database.

Reverse image search engines cannot exhaustively index the vastly expansive, ever-changing content on the internet. So, even if the image is on the internet, there is no guarantee that it will have been found by the site. In this regard, not finding an image doesn’t mean it’s real – or fake.

You can improve the likelihood of a match by cropping the image to contain only the region of interest. Because this search requires you to upload images to a commercial site, take care when uploading any sensitive images.

2. Check the metadata

Digital images often contain rich metadata that can provide clues as to their provenance and authenticity.

Metadata is data about data. The metadata for a digital image includes the camera make and model; camera settings like aperture size and exposure time; the date and time when the image was captured; the GPS location where the image was captured; and much more.

The importance of the date, time and location tags is self-evident. Other tags may have a similarly straightforward interpretation. For example, photo-editing software may introduce a tag that identifies the software, or date and time tags that are inconsistent with other tags.

Several tags provide information about camera settings. A gross inconsistency between the image properties implied by these settings and the actual properties of the image provides evidence that the image has been manipulated. For example, the exposure time and aperture size tags provide a qualitative measure of the light levels in the photographed scene. A short exposure time and small aperture suggest a scene with high light levels taken during the day, while a long exposure time and large aperture suggest a scene with low light levels taken at night or indoors.

The metadata is stored in the image file and can be readily extracted with various programs. However, some online services strip out much of an image’s metadata, so the absence of metadata is not uncommon. When the metadata is intact, however, it can be highly informative.

3. Recognize what can and can’t be faked

When assessing if an image or video is authentic, it is important to understand what is and what is not possible to fake.

For example, an image of two people standing shoulder to shoulder is relatively easy to create by splicing together two images. So is an image of a shark swimming next to a surfer. On the other hand, an image of two people embracing is harder to create, because the complex interaction is difficult to fake.

While modern artificial intelligence can produce highly compelling fakes – often called deepfakes – this is primarily restricted to changing the face and voice in a video, not the entire body. So it is possible to create a good fake of someone saying something that they never did, but not necessarily performing a physical act that they never did. This, however, will surely change in the coming years.

4. Beware of sharks

After more than two decades in digital forensics, I’ve come to the conclusion that viral images with sharks are almost always fake. Beware of spectacular shark photos.

5. Help fight misinformation

Fake images and videos have led to horrific violence around the globe, manipulation of democratic elections and civil unrest. The prevalence of misinformation also now allows anyone to cry “fake news” in response to any news story with which they disagree.

I believe that it’s critical for the technology sector to make broad and deep changes to content moderation policies. The titans of tech can no longer ignore the direct and measurable harm that has come from the weaponization of their products.

What’s more, those who are developing technology that can be used to easily create sophisticated fakes must think more carefully about how their technology can be abused and how to put some safeguards in place to prevent abuse. And, the digital forensic community must continue to develop tools to quickly and accurately detect fake images, videos and audio.

Lastly, everyone must change how they consume and spread content online. When reading stories online, be diligent and consider the source; the New York Evening (a fake news site) is not the same as The New York Times. Always be cautious of the wonderfully satirical stories from The Onion that often get mistaken for real news.

Check the date of each story. Many fake stories continue to recirculate years after their introduction, like a nasty virus that just won’t die. Recognize that many headlines are designed to grab your attention – read beyond the headline to make sure that the story is what it appears to be. The news that you read on social media is algorithmically fed to you based on your prior consumption, creating an echo chamber that exposes you only to stories that conform to your existing views.

Finally, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Make every effort to fact-check stories with reliable secondary and tertiary sources, particularly before sharing.

Meet Jina ep.2

w/ Hani

okay, so Jina and Hani’s Favourite thing to do is EAT

they never get full

its what they bonded on when they first met

so what better for hani’s episode than to go to a restaurant and have lunch.

like last time Jina calls her special guest

“Jin-ah, hello”

“unnie, do you want to come to lunch with me we can get whatever you want.”

“yes i am STARVING”

“okay dokey ill meet you there in half an hour”

“alright, Bye”

Jina grabs all her stuff and gets in the car

once she is there she sees Hani standing there impatiently jumping up & down.

“what took you so long i’ve been waiting for ages

“im right on time, you were way to eager”

“whatever lets just eat”

so they go in and get a table

they order their drinks and meals and then Jina suggests they play a game while they wait

starting with would you rather 

Jina asks would you rather travel to the past or future

“future”

Hani asks would you rather be able to teleport or be telekinetic

“teleport”

Jina asks would you rather fight a shark or a lion

hani bursts out laughing saying she wouldn’t want to be in either one of those situations

the next game is the say anything challenge where you have to say a word each and you cant repeat or stutter

they both start out strong but as soon as Jina says a word that’s already been said all hell break loose

it was sort of like the domino effect 

now they cant even get passed too words without one of them messing 

usually Hani though cause shes laughing too much 

then the food comes and it goes silent cause they are too busy eating

all you can hear is the slurping and munching of food.

its not lady like at all but the clearly don’t care.

after the food they start up a convo about their lives 

Jina talks about Marley her cat and how she lost him for a whole  day only to find him in her underwear drawer sleeping.

they also talk about their childhood and stories as JYP trainees when they first met

after they stuffed themselves with food and had a chat they leave the restaurant

Jina and Hani say an outro

“i had the best time having a lovely lunch with my Best friend”

“yes the meal was delicious thank you for treating me Jin-ah”

“your very welcome”

then to the camera

“thank you for watching, ill see you next time with another guest”
