I combined footage from my Detektiv Conan Blu-ray with audio from my Case Closed FUNimation DVD and made an HD English dub clip compilation for Episodes 57-58, "The Holmes Freak Murder Case."

#detective conan #case closed #video #funimation english dub script #i wasn't actually gonna post this video to tumblr because it's so long (because i have a lot of feelings about this case!)#but folks on discord liked it and i'm all about my funi dub propaganda so why not right?#the dub script here is just so fun--and does so well at making the dialogue *work* and sound natural in english #and has so much flavor! it does arguably too much in terms of creative liberties but things like #'can i really trust what a kid saw?' of the sub translation compared to 'and what were you smoking before you ran out there?' in the dub #are much more enjoyable to me #(other fun phrasings: 'the one who's always hangin' around you guys' (sub) vs. 'the little-bitty one with the great big brain!' (dub))#(and 'of course not! the reason i applied for this tour was 'cuz i thought i might find kudo' (sub))#(vs. 'who me? no no no. actually i signed up because i was hoping to run into jimmy here. but i guess i'm out of luck' (dub))#(and so many more! this script just has so much character)#and while it is a shame that the dub eliminated heiji's accent i do like the changed line ('i know it's you!')#'cause you've met shinichi *once* heiji lol #but yeah this is a fun case! i'm really happy to have finally hd'd the funi dub for it :')#one of my favorite things about the funi dub is that jerry jewell (shinichi's va) voices conan's thoughts #and it's so nice to hear *shinichi* and heiji deducting together (and the way they finish each other's thoughts and vibe... it gets to me)

I’ve been interested since you last posted comment, how does Gen do with other kids either around her age or a bit older? Is she the type to roughhouse?

At first Gen was actually afraid to get anywhere near other kids. It was somewhat of a problem for Kraw when he was trying to help her start navigating living a somewhat normal life. He was worried she wasn’t socializing properly, especially just hanging around him and his friends. She claimed she was fine with that, thinking it made her super cool and mature. He also noticed she would get destructive or get into things more when she was bored.

Kraw felt bad, thinking she was avoiding other kids because of her short experience in the orphanage, when he dropped her off there the first go around, thinking it would hold better prospects for her (Dumbass behavior Kraw, tsk.)

There are a few kids that hang out around the docks and they often come and see Kraw when he’s at the docks, wanting to know what kind of a catch he came back with. (They like the freaky sea creatures) Kraw would sometimes give them little things like scales or bones that he found. Whenever they were there though he noticed Gen would run and hide somewhere on the boat for a while. Kraw didn’t want to force her to socialize so he just lets it slide at first, thinking she’d gradually get used to them.

Unfortunately, her first interaction with the group is when they find her drawing on the hull of Kraw’s boat with chalk. Finally seeing the anticipated new kid on the block, they run up to her excitedly.

“Hey are you Gen?��

She reacts by screaming while thrashing her arms at the others. She ends up shoving one of the kids down as she rushed back up onto the boat to hide without saying a word, to Kraw’s dismay.

After making sure the kids are alright, Kraw apologizes and explains she might need more time to adjust and to avoid crowding her next time. The oldest one, who she shoved, seems to understand.

Later on Kraw asks her if she wants to talk about what happened. It was only after this that Gen ends up telling him a little about the Fever, and he begins to understand. He didn’t realize how deep her fear of other kids went, with her experiences with the rival gangs of strays who wandered the streets of the Fever looking for any unfortunate soul caught in the open at the wrong time.

After assuring her most the kids around the dock are friendly and just want to get to know her, she eventually seems more willing to try and socialize, slowly.

genuinely i think (one of) the biggest problems about the finale of fopanw is that nobody is willing to understand what dev is going through or gives him sympathy, and any sympathy that IS shown or anytime their thoughts are challenged, its undercut with jokes constantly. its so frustrating having the adults around him constantly being like yep you suck and if youre good its buried way deep i guess <3 as if he isnt like, a 10 year old being influence by an adult that is a criminal

its just so weird tonally because its like they want you to sympathize with dev and are absolutely aware hes a sad case, but still make jokes and put so much blame fully on him for his behavior as if every adult around him didnt fail him, INCLUDING peri

#also dont take this super seriously i dont hate this show in fact one of my fave eps was the time loop episode it was so good #this isnt even touching the surface regarding my thoughts but. yeah #and before peri defenders try to kill me i dont hate him i like him as a concept #but we can all agree he did a shit job right #and to give him credit dev is a hard kid and a hard first job at that but #half of the time he was hangin around his parents and constantly being shown love and affection and kinda just not talking to dev really #and the other half he complained about everything goin on as if he didnt have training for being a godparent?#but im sorry that comes with the job like more often than not #the kids are traumatized or goin through it theyre not going to just be nice lil guys #theyre like 10 usually. cmon #anyway yeah the finale was disappointing alas #i hope s2 has the same quality as the rest of the eps but esp the time loop episode <3 #animation chitchat

i am scrolling my dash and i scroll down to see gaster holding a little baby skeleton and im like ok sure whatever i have seen this 4 million times and then i scroll down more to see a school-aged child papyrus walking next to him and i go OOOOUOOUHHH!!!!!!
