Just as a reminder, if you spot someone illegally parked in a handicap spot or you have complaints about your landlord providing sufficient handicap parking or whatever, this site exists. Fyi.

Snapped a pic of this while I waited for my turn at the ortho dr today. In Feb 2020 I was out doing chicken chores and my dog & my daughters dog were running full-speed and crashed into the side of my knee. Fast fw past 3 rounds of phys therapy, 3 cortizone shots, 2 mri's, 1 meniscal repair, 1 knee brace and 1 new cane...today I got another injection -ouch😖 and a form for a temp handicap parking space...emphasis on the *temporary* because I'm trying to hold out hope things can still get better. I may cry the 1st time I actually use the parking plackard 🥺 But I am thankful for it. Onward!

Specialist: *shakes his at at the fact that there is one single accessible parking spot in the entire parking lot* *puts two accessible parking signs next to owner's face*: "WHAT ARE YOU???"
Owner: "... an idiot sandwich?*
Specialist: "BRO NO! YOU ARE JUST A GIANT F*CKING ASSHOLE! WHY IS THERE ONLY ONE HANDICAP SPOT AND WHY THE F*CK IS IT OVER 100 FEET FROM THE ENTRANCE BUILDING" *hits owner on the back of the head with one of the signs*
Very Silly Concept: a show called "Accessibility Nightmares" but it's structured exactly like Kitchen Nightmares. An accessibility specialist goes to different establishments and helps them make their businesses more accessible.
The accessibility specialist asks why the door at the top of the small set of stairs has a wheelchair symbol on it. The owner replies that's the accessible bathroom. The camera zooms in on the specialist as they process this information.
A customer with a service dog comes in to a restaurant. The hostess tells them they don't allow dogs. The accessibly specialist looks over at the hostess like
And there are web accessibility episodes too. The accessibility specialist stares at the white text on the light pink background of the home page like
The specialist asks why not a single product picture has alt text, and the business owner says "Well I mean, it's makeup, why would a blind person be shopping for makeup?" The specialist just
The specialist asks the web designer how a screen reader user is supposed to complete the captcha portion of the password reset process when there is no audio alternative. The designer admits they don't know.

Florida Male Sprayed With Bear Spray, Shot, Killed After Dispute Over Handicap Parking Spot – Orlando Florida reporting
Sarasota Florida police say Minor, a disabled amputee, got into an argument with Jonathan Arias, who was fishing with friends near a pier.
"What's your problem?" Arias asked.
"I'll show you my problem," Minor responded, before spraying Arias with bear spray, police said.
According to the arrest report, Arias then walked around Minor's vehicle to the driver's door where Minor was sitting.
Minor fired several shots, striking Arias.
Arias' wife ran toward him, and Minor pointed a firearm at her with his finger on the trigger.
"Get out of my face, (expletive)," Minor told her.
A witness traveling with the couple stated she heard 7-8 shots and saw a weapon in Minor's hand.

I personally, only use the handicapped spots because I have severe asthma, limited lung function, and fibromyalgia, so on really cold days, snowy days or rainy days. It makes it easier.
I just wish older men and women would be nicer about it, yes my illnesses are invisible, no it doesn't make me any less eligible for the spot. 😔😔😔😖😖
using disabled stalls, seats, and parking spots without needing them is not innocuous. these aren't just things that make disabled people's lives easier (although that's reason enough). they prevent us from being injured or in distress, and allow us to take care of our needs. removing our access to that can put us in danger. stop it.
also, to the invisibly disabled people reading this - including mentally ill and neurodivergent people - if you need these accomodations, please continue to use them. your needs matter. do what you need to stay as safe and healthy as possible.

Whenever people use the loading zone to park or get their kids stroller out I film people and try to open my car door as hard as I can
Disabled parking spots are not your "I'll be right back" spots.
If you hinder a disabled person from getting into or out of their vehicle safely, then you deserve to have your car hit or scratched or towed.
