I personally, only use the handicapped spots because I have severe asthma, limited lung function, and fibromyalgia, so on really cold days, snowy days or rainy days. It makes it easier.
I just wish older men and women would be nicer about it, yes my illnesses are invisible, no it doesn't make me any less eligible for the spot. 😔😔😔😖😖
using disabled stalls, seats, and parking spots without needing them is not innocuous. these aren't just things that make disabled people's lives easier (although that's reason enough). they prevent us from being injured or in distress, and allow us to take care of our needs. removing our access to that can put us in danger. stop it.
also, to the invisibly disabled people reading this - including mentally ill and neurodivergent people - if you need these accomodations, please continue to use them. your needs matter. do what you need to stay as safe and healthy as possible.

The loneliness and depression you feel when your best friend does things with other people and you aren't even thought of to be invited. Yes she's known them a long time, yes she can do things with other people. But all I want is to be asked..hey tiff we might be going to do this, you wouldn't want to come right? It's simple. Just ask me. Offer for me to go. It's not that hard. No wonder I am so isolated.
