And her Brazillian handball rival, Tamires Morena.
I hadn't ever watched handball, but I decided to check it out and all I can say is... these women are *not* playing around.
Okay, I mean, they are *technically* playing around, but they are quite fierce as they are doing it. Every single one of them is just pure agility and muscle and most of them are quite tall.
Albertina twisted her knee during their Olympic match. Tamires saw the medics were too short to be an effective crutch and decided to take matters into her own hands.
Well... arms.
Her very sizeable arms.
It was a heartwarming moment of sportswomanship—the 6 foot tall Brazillian Amazon picked up the 6 foot 1 inch Angolan in an epic display of effortless strength. It was like she was carrying a bag of feathers.
My favorite part was when the coach was all...
"Thanks for your assistance, ma'am, but I'll take it from here."
"I am helping!"
"I'm glad we could work together on this."
"And now I will give you the universal "pat-pat" signifying a mutual and equivalent accomplishment."
These two actually compete against each other in Romania's handball league and when they aren't violently hip-checking each other on the court, they are longtime buddies.
Just gals being pals.
Once she was safely on the bench, Albertina told Tamires...
"Thank you very much, my friend. Only you could lift me up. I was very hurt."
Tamires told reporters...
"We love to sit down for coffee and chat. We don't have much time to go out at night, but we are lifelong friends.”
I would like to submit this as my latest installment in my ongoing series...
Where I find something that can be *respectfully* admired for a combination of beauty and an unrelated x-factor heightening said beauty.
Previous installments include...
Not to be a lesbian but... here is a cool lumberjill (along with an explanation of the kinetic chain (and a bird explodes)).
Not to be a lesbian but... here is a gymnast teaching a stuntwoman how to do cool flips (and then the stuntwoman gets the zoomies).
Not to be a lesbian but... the lumberjill returns to teach you self (lower your) defense(s).
Not to be a lesbian but... here is a really tired-ass bear.
Okay, that last one does not fit thematically, but I just love that tired-ass bear.
Before the closing ceremony I just wanted to put together my olympic story from all the gifsets I made during the games. I didn't catch everything! and others will have the more famous memes etc. but these are the highlights and memories for me of an amazing olympics in Paris. I hope you remember some and treasure them too.
What a story, what an amazing journey and I'm so thankful for all your likes and reblogs along the way. It made getting up every day so much fun and the whole thing that much more special.
