The Hampton Court Ghost refers to a figure seen on CCTV footage near the Hampton Court Palace in October 2003. A strange presence had started being reported by employees and visitors in early 2001 until this "apparition" appeared in court robes opening the door to the building. What is so unexplainable about the images is that the humanoid being doesn't appear to have a face.

HAMPTON COURT PALACE GHOST
2003
CATHERINE HOWARD?
In 2003, CCTV footage showed the doors on Hampton Court Palace flying open, on the second day the same occurrence took place but this time they could see a ghost figure in a Tudor style dress that is seen closing the doors. The doors opened again on the third day but the ghost didn’t make reappearance.
Those who have worked at Hampton Court Palace as well as visitors have recalled hearing or seeing ghosts inside the palace.
Many believe the ghost in the video is Catherine Howard, King Henry VIII’s fifth wife who was beheaded at the age of 18. Howard wasn’t a virgin when she married the king and was having an affair with Henry’s favourite male courtier, Thomas Culpeper. The king was at Hampton Court when Howard was to be arrested. It was said that she ran down the gallery of Hampton Court to try to reach Henry who was praying in the Royal Chapel. She was stopped by his guards, and she called out his name, screamed and cried. Howard would never see the king again and lost her head in 1542. It is believed that Howard’s ghost still haunts Hampton Court Palace to this day and people can still hear her screams.
There are those who don’t believe the footage is of a ghost, and it was possibly just a joke created by those who were working at the palace. There are also those who believe the ‘ghost’ is actually just somebody working at the palace who is dressed up in costume, who went to close the doors.

Sir Christopher Wren
Tumblr media
Wren in a portrait by Godfrey Kneller (1711). Source: Wikipedia
Sir Christopher Wren died on this day in 1723 in the Old Court House of London. Every year Wren’s ghost appears on the anniversary of his death and glides through the first floor dining room of the House. His hands allegedly brush the walls and he seems also on occasion to convene a group of phantoms because the stairs leading to the dining room creak and echo with the sound of ghostly footsteps for most of the day. The Old Court House was not simply the location of Wren’s deathbed, it is also where he stayed when supervising the construction of Hampton Court, so his supernatural attachment to the place is understandable.

Ghost of Anne Boleyn
One of the most well-known and long-lasting ghosts in British history is Anne Boleyn. She was King Henry VIII's second wife and the mother of Queen Elizabeth I. Many stories say that her sad life and dramatic death have left her spirit wandering the halls of historical places connected to her life and death. Anne Boleyn's life was full of desire, intrigue, and betrayal in the end. Because she married Henry VIII, England broke away from the Roman Catholic Church. This was a significant part of the English Reformation. However, she faced defeat due to her inability to conceive a male child, and her opponents employed political tactics to undermine her. May 1536 saw the downfall of Anne, who faced charges of adultery, incest, and treason. She was found guilty in a highly questionable trial and was executed by beheading at the Tower of London.
Tumblr media
People say they most frequently see her ghost in the Tower of London. Workers and visitors have reported seeing the ghost of a white-clad woman, believed to be Anne, roaming the grounds. One of the scariest things that people have seen is a figure carrying a cut head. It is believed that this figure represents her spirit. This terrifying image serves as a stark reminder of the brutality of her death. Hever Castle in Kent, where Anne grew up, is also rumored to host Anne's ghost. People have said they saw her ghostly figure going through the castle's halls and grounds. Some people say they saw her standing at a window and looking out with a sad face. She may have been thinking about her better, younger days before the terrible events that led to her death. Another location where people claim to see Anne's ghost is Blickling Hall in Norfolk. She is believed to haunt the hall every year on May 19, the date of her death. According to the story, headless horses pull her ghost in a carriage, while Anne herself remains headless inside. People say that this creepy parade glides up to the hall, where her spirit then roams the building and grounds. The ghost of Anne Boleyn doesn't just haunt these places. There have also been reports of her ghostly presence at Hampton Court Palace, where she spent a lot of time when she was married to Henry VIII. People say that her ghost often shows up in the Haunted Gallery, where she used to be a big deal in the court's life.
Tumblr media
Various theories have emerged regarding Anne Boleyn's ghostly visits. Some individuals interpret her ghostly visits as a manifestation of her wandering spirit, seeking peace or justice following her wrongful execution. Others perceive them as remnants of her intense emotions, lingering in the locations where she resided and passed away. Her story and the stories about her ghost continue to interest and amaze people, mixing the supernatural with history. Anne Boleyn's ghost is a story that will never die, demonstrating how important she was in history. Her life was full of ambition, emotion, and tragedy, and she died too soon. Because of this, she is a fascinating figure in both historical and supernatural stories. The ghost of hers is a moving reminder of the rough times she went through and the dramatic events that shaped her life.

If there's a plot of some kind, I'm normally game to writing old muses. Most of them didn't last long on tumblr for an unknown fandom or what not, which happens. Other's I moved to discord just haven't writen them in years but the servers are still active for OOC chats. My Jane was just a self writing challenge & to fuck with an old friend So I probably won't write her again. I drifted many of my female muses ages ago when I came out or just switched platforms. Though there are a few I'm just not interested in writing.

The hills of Hampton Court were blurry with rain; reduced to swaths of aqueous gray and green, wobbling over the horizon, the earth’s distant curve imperceptible from the royal stables. Dudley glides a leather-gloved hand across his horse’s chest, the Jennet's heartbeat thrumming through the spectacular knot of muscles encasing her lungs, glowering as the beast swings her long neck and hinges her doleful gaze to his. ‘What is it, girl?’ Leicester murmurs, scratching behind her ears and earning an appreciative whinny from his – notoriously volatile – Hestia. ‘Where’s the harm in a little rain?’ He asks, the pitter-patter on the roof almost too gentle to hear: a soft drum, a splash into the sopping-wet ground, hissing and gurgling as it drains into the gutters. Hestia husks out a nicker, returning Dudley’s query with marked ambivalence.
They hadn’t much time to ready. Less than an hour to primp and preen, to saddle Hestia with the bulky weight of the Earl’s armory and caparisons, for come morning, Dudley would be, with the rest of the King’s middling retinue, riding hotly out to Dover; facing at least a two-day journey (three, if the grounds remained pulpy) galloping full out across the rutted, boggy fields of England, clods of deep-chilled earth flying from the hooves of King William’s destriers; speed and glory hampered by decorum and the lay-of-the-land, all forced to tarry behind the King and his ever-growing string of paramours. What lay ahead in Dover brought yet another lour to Leicester’s lips, deepening the lines of consternation flanking his mouth. He turns his face, dark as a cloud, to the sound of nimble footfalls crunching over a smattering of hay, a halo of humidity-wizened hair fanning about Elizabeth’s oval-shaped face. Hestia swished her tail, clouting against the stable doors. But with an ease for which he was lauded to command his geldings, Dudley held Hestia at bay, the stony arrangement of his brow not yet revealing the tempest of emotions he felt at Elizabeth’s presence.
Bess … Her name ghosts across his lips long before he musters the good sense to curtail such familiarity. ‘Your Highness,’ The Earl greets, his voice gruff, as Hestia releases a disgruntled neigh, white vapour blowing from her nostrils. Dudley then lowers himself into a deep bow before the Princess, one hand at his abdomen and the other conducting a flourish. ‘I hear I am to congratulate you, lady regent. You have all that you desire now – the crown jewels, your brother's power, and a court of ready subjects.’ Decidedly grim, he punctuates, ‘you must be thrilled.’

@edmcndd
Ever since the ascension that had come with the marriage to his most desired and unquenchable Anne Boleyn, Thomas had seen himself the attraction of many welcome eyes upon the grounds of Hampton Court. Of course, during the time of the late King, he had also entertained such wandering gazes with the call of sweetened poems or knowing glances — the attention itself was far from uncomfortable to he who had craved the spotlight in the same way a dramatic child did the eye of a parent. Between his love making or various writings across the known globe, Thomas had set aside hours upon hours for dramatic readings of sweet-hearted sonnets, his language then fluttering between welcomed ears with a smile in place for compliments laced with honey — and, gluttonous for their approval, the poet bowed for his crowd with the cry of gratitude, his hand suppressed against the broad expanse of his chest as he soaked it all in.
But, he was not simply a thespian willing his way towards stardom, but a high-ranking member of court. And as such, he had not only a role to play but a reputation to uphold — as the stepfather to a King, to a Princess and then the husband to an infamous woman, Thomas was pushed to up heave his love for adoration in place of serious remarks and well meaning nods of his head. As men came to him for the first time in his life to ask for the approval of a gift sent to the King’s quarters or to the Dowager’s reception rooms, Thomas found himself just beyond the comfort of well-stroked paths — but, that had been how Thomas had always preferred it, to tickle the fringes of life was all but a joy to a man often thrown to the gasping mouths of wolves.
Tumblr media
After a particularly serious conversation following the unfortunate demise of apparent traitors, Thomas had sought a moment’s breath whilst tracing the outlines of the infamous Tiltyard where he had once partook in one or two jousts in the name of the old King. Whilst the ghosts of old friends, memories and taunting opportunities began to flood the arena, the real world continued around him — just as such till he found himself face to face with a person he had not quite realised was there. Whoever it was, Thomas was not one to sour a selfish expression, and instead welcomed the younger man in the same breath he did any other. “There is no Joust today, surely we are starved of such a showing! Alas, I am far too old to venture such a joy these days, but you are right for the picking. Have you ever had the pleasure? Surely you are not that young,” he smiled, the royal guards following their usual routine, as the husband to the Dowager welcomed a new course of conversation in the oblivious patterns that had always coloured his every interaction.

A Historic Love | An Anne Boleyn x Henry VIII one-shot (The Tudors/historical fiction) | Fanfiction
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another one from whem I was utterly obsessed with ''The Tudors'' Hahaha That's a great show! Totally historically innacurate, but a great show nonetheless.
Written by Shakesboo (also known as ''me'')
Enjoy!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary: The ghosts of Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII can be seen running through the corridors of Hampton Court. That's their curse: ghosts don't move one. They stay...Stay...Stay...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My golden velvet dress danced like rays of sunlight as I ran through those tireless hallways. And he was behind me. He always ran after me.
My chest felt like it was on fire, even though I knew I wasn't tired at all. It was this game. Hunting and being hunted. The thrill of escaping the person you love and waiting for them to catch up to you only to run away again. We were so good at it.
My shoes slid across the hardwood floor as I heard his footsteps close behind me, heavy and impatient.
I turned my head slightly over my shoulder and caught a glimpse of the golden glow of his clothes closer than I would have liked, and picked up my pace. I heard his playful laugh as he sped up to keep up with me. He knew exactly what I was doing.
“Anne…” He sang with every syllable of my name. I used to love hearing him say my name, the things he loved most about me, tell me how much he loved me. Tell me you love me again, Henry…
The paintings and the tall, tall windows became a blur as I walked past them. I braced my hands on the wall to make the last turn and caught a glimpse of my beloved smiling at me. Oh, that smile… It was what used to make my day every morning. Until he decided to direct it at someone else.
When I realized it, I was in a large ballroom, with large windows with fluttering curtains and the ceiling full of unlit chandeliers.
I finally gave up running and let him catch up with me, holding me tightly around my waist from behind. He was smiling, I could feel his chest vibrating against my back.
"I got you…" He whispered, his voice melodic and sweet as honey.
I closed my eyes for a second and slowly turned my head towards him, feeling his warm breath caress my skin.
Henry… I missed you so much, my dear…
With one hand, he moved the hair away from my neck and began to distribute kisses along it, then at the beginning of my collarbone and back to my neck. His warm lips left trails all over my skin. Oh my God…
"Your neck… I love your neck." That's what he used to say. Yes, Henry… I know how much you love it.
I was so inert in that caress that when I realized it, his lips were glued to my ear, gently pulling my earlobe with his teeth.
“I will love you forever, Anne Boleyn…” He didn’t remember, he didn’t remember anything at all. But why would he remember? These are my memories, not his. This is the Henry I loved, not the real him.
I smiled broadly and before he could whisper anything else, I broke free from his arms and began to twirl on the smooth floor, lifting the skirt of my dress in waves along with me. He looked at me with shining eyes and a slight smile on his face. He was proud of me. I was his masterpiece on display, and I wasn’t going to make a fool of myself.
I kept twirling, and twirling, and twirling…
And suddenly I felt his hands on me, holding me facing him by my waist. He looks into my eyes, and I can almost see myself in those blue irises. So much love, admiration, affection.
It was at those times that I forgot that he was the king and I was just a lady, holding Her Majesty's heart in my hands. It was in those small, rare moments when he was just Henry and I was just Anne, and I wouldn't trade those moments for all the crowns in the world.
I know that soon this memory will fade and collapse like water, that everything will go back to being dark, cold and empty, but I don't mind looking into those perfect eyes for just a few more minutes.
And that's when he kisses me.
First a soft touch, then he invests more pressure and heat against my swollen lips, reminding me of the hot nights we spent together so long ago. So long ago.
I don't want this to end… I don't want to be separated from you… I don't want this memory to end… I don't want, I don't want…
Why did you do this, Henry?
Why did you have to do this?
We were so perfect for each other.
Oh yes… So perfect.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So... What did you think??
I'll see you later ❤

The Ghost of Hampton Court
In our travels to discover the myths, legends, and mysteries of the unexplained dive into the short and devastating reign of Queen Katherine, the fifth wife of King Henry VIII. From loveable teenager to treason... remembering what history wants to forget.
Friends, I have recently been doing some research on Executioners during the 15th,16th, and 17th Centuries. It’s a grim topic, I know, but it’s interesting to look into the study of societal norms and religious beliefs. Now, before you start asking me questions, please note that I will write a blog about it soon. And I have an idea for a future book…. But I digress. As I dug through the dusty…

Simone Rocha FW24
From Luke Leitch's review for Vogue:
A finely designed duet between the specters of sex and death, this spookily stimulating Simone Rocha collection played what we desire (but can’t automatically possess) against what we’d powerfully prefer to avoid (but will inevitably all end up getting).
We gathered in the 12th century St. Bartholomew’s Church, hung heavy with incense and quite probably ghosts, and a venue where we had previously seen spring 2022. When Rocha was researching Gaultier’s archive—which she noted with almost ghoulish relish is stored in boxes termed ‘coffins’—she was invited to view the mourning dress of Queen Victoria in the British royal archive at Hampton Court palace. Victoria famously wore black every day after her husband Prince Albert’s death in 1861 until she joined him 40 years later. Said Rocha: “It was really wild. I’d be in Hampton Court looking at these pieces that were all about security on the body and mourning as a front and form of protection, and then I’d be in Paris looking in Gaultier’s coffins at these super promiscuous perverse pieces.” What united them, she realized, was boning.
Corsetry thus ran through this third collection. Its delicate superstructure embraced the abdomen within tie-detail nylon parkas and rompers. Its contours defined the darting in little sheer jackets worn north of pantaloons, some of the many womenswear looks in which Rocha worked to place the models’ breasts on twin metal-beaded podiums shaped perhaps after lips. “There’s the perversity of being adorned, and cupped, in these organza corsets: it’s really stimulating on,” said Rocha. She countered this emphasis with faux-fur hip-emplacements that were accented by shoes, earpieces, and the hems of translucent trapeze dresses worn over more ballooning pantaloons, or the furry buckles that swung from the back of sheer pencil skirts. In menswear, this attention was transferred to the shoulder where twin shooting patches in more faux fur or glass beading stretched from scapula to pectorals.
The fabrics were pressed to seem recently disinterred after long slumber, perhaps in a coffin. One dress was embellished with, and many bags were shaped after, a shaggy, warped-headed black or brown dog with startling red beaded eyes that Rocha modeled after the Church Grim, a spectral canine once believed to be our final companion on the road to oblivion. Tonight Rocha gave us a gorgeous, deathly, lascivious send-off to remember. It was just as Queen Victoria once described “too great intimacy with artists”: both “very seductive, and a little dangerous.”

Did you know:
Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard were beheaded in the exact same place?
In 1784, Mary Rose Tudor had a snippet of her hair taken from her resting place?
King Henry VIII and all of his wives were related through a common ancestor, Hing Edward I of England?
Catherine Parr's coffin was opened multiple times and abused in many ways?
Henry VIII changed the law so that Jane Boleyn could be executed? He made it so that people who went 'mad' could still be executed.
Catherine Howard's ghost is meant to run down the haunted gallery screaming out at Hampton Court Palace?
During Elizabeth I's reign, they mixed white lead and vinegar to make pale complexion foundation, which is very poisonous?
Catherine Howard's remains still haven't been found?
Thomas Seymour tried to marry 13 year old Princess Elizabeth Tudor when he was 38?
Uhh, that's nice.
