Victor Frankenstein (1957): The Could-Have-Been Tumblr Sexyman

Tonight I watched 'The Curse of Frankenstein', the first of the Hammer Horror Frankenstein series, and all I could think was that if this film had come out more recently than the late 1950s, Victor Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) would have been the absolute lust object of the best and most unhinged Tumblr-goers.

Look at this man. He is elegant, he has a thousand great Victorian-era outfits. He has cheekbones for days and pretty blue eyes. He's tall and thin as a rail. He exudes a palpable aura of superiority and bitchiness at all times.

But all this gentlemanliness is a facade, barely covering the feral wet-possum-man hidden underneath. He's twitchy, he's weird. He has absolutely crazy blue eyes. He's obsessed with SCIENCE.

He's committed unspeakable crimes! So many crimes, and is constantly one scene away from being roughed up (mostly choked, because I swear the director of this movie had a thing about Peter Cushing getting choked by Christopher Lee ... it happens a lot).

He is absolutely, undeniably a freak and a monsterfucker.

He would be cancelled a thousand times. He is the absolute worst. A terrible human being. He would be so many people's Problematic Fave(TM). He would have so many Tumblr-goers cheering on his crimes and hoping he gets worse. And he would! For multiple slutty, slutty sequels.

And he was played by a genuinely sweet actor who adored his wife, liked painting miniatures, and was very open about being best friends for life with his looming, 6'5" oft-costar (who another large chunk of Tumblr would be absolutely feral about, but that's another story for another day).

Truly one of the great losses of the passage of time (and the fact that the Hammer Horror flicks really do take a certain sort of taste to actually enjoy), is that Peter Cushing's Frankenstein doesn't get his moment as the Tumblr It Girl of some fabulously-dressed, unhinged, crime-filled, bitchy Halloween season.

‘The revenge of Frankenstein’ sure is a movie that I am really normal about- All the Frankenstein Hammer movies really jgiohgoirejfoi (so normal I made a uquiz based of them)

Anyway I was in the mood to paint and I’m really proud of how it turned out ! (first time in my life I don’t fuck up Peter Cushing’s face-)

the class commentaries in Hammer's Frankenstein movies are never particularly subtle

Victor is a wealthy man who abuses the bodies of the working class and disabled in every possible way, from literally using his position at a poorhouse to steal limbs and organs from the most vulnerable people in his community to preying sexually on his maid and orchestrating her death when he’s done with her.

he degrades every single person he entangles into a collection of useful parts and functions and does away with the rest, sinking to lower and lower means as the series progresses and he refines his science.

his monsters are never truly evil but he taints them through his own violence. the original monster's brain is irreparably damaged when Victor murders the man he’s stealing it from. and the second 'monster' is a disabled man, who flees from Victor's 'care' once he realizes that he’ll be toured and put on display like an animal.

the premise of Must Be Destroyed goes far beyond mad science shlock, as Victor inserts himself insidiously into the lives of a couple who are just trying their best to provide for a sick relative. he blackmails them and takes over their home, has them at his beck and call while they become all the more isolated and powerless to escape.

it’s a very natural progression of the previous films and I vaguely knew the premise but I was still really caught off guard by just how goddamn scary he is in this one

Frankenstein Created Woman (1967) studies

I really enjoy this one- don’t be fooled by the name, the Woman is basically Frankenstein’s genderqueer kid. I also think the introduction of medical soul-transference and a pseudo-slasher plotline were clever. In a series of good films, it’s a highlight

Frankenstein is the cuntiest man alive, so sexist he's gay, his main appeal is how divorceable he is <3 And yes I know they're his ""assistants""... but it's way more fun to read them as queer
