So with the Wicked movie coming out soon, I’ve been thinking about how much I really just want a pro-shot instead. But unfortunately, it will never happen.

In order for a broadway show to be released on Disney, it needs to meet the following criteria:

1. Is based on actual historical events

2. Takes place in NY

3. Main character has no parents or money

4. There’s a mass rebellion against an out of touch old man and it’s really obvious that the really powerful out of touch old man should win, right?

5. Wrong, they win the mass rebellion!

6. The aforementioned penniless orphan main character gets together with a really rich girl

I guess we’ll just have to watch enough Hamilton and Newsies to feed our theater kid souls.

I was supposed to go to laundry. They were playing Hamilton in the media room next to the laundry room. So now I’m watching Hamilton because like a dumbass theatre kid I couldn’t resist the siren’s song.

One thing I’ve learned through my years of consuming live theatre and bootlegs of live theatre is that you can almost always tell when someone used to be a Newsie.

They always have this like indescribable quality about how they move even compared to other incredibly well trained dancers. I think it’s just because Newsies is such an insane, other level caliber of dance that it just brings them to another quality of movement.

I don’t know how to describe it. I just know that whenever I watch something the Newsie always stands out.

I saw the Mean Girls Musical this weekend and I have to say it was a great show. I, historically, haven't been a fan of the Mean Girls cast recording and didn't even finish the Mean Girls bootleg that I found on YouTube.

When my former teacher offered to bring me to see the show as a graduation present, I was a little scared we'd walk out disappointed.

Little did I know I had fallen for an old trap. NOTHING beats a lives musical performance. Even really good pro-shots like Hamilton and Newsies just won't hit the same way.

The actors where giving 100%, the music and acting was more fun than I remember, it had most of the more iconic bits in the movie without the early 2000's offensive shock value comedy the movie occasionally fell into.

All things considered, it was good. Was it the best or most groundbreaking performance I've ever seen, live or otherwise? NO! But I walked out of the theater with even more love for the artform than when I walked in and I thought that was impossible.

This is why Broadway doesn't have to worry about pro-shots disrupting ticket sales. The experience of live theater is just so different and so much more electric than watching it on a streaming platform. Theater and its stories deserves to be accessible past that, though. The people who have the extra money to go see live performance will still pay to go see it but not everyone can. Those who can't still deserve a chance to see these stories in the context of a stage show.

Guess whose Hamilton obsession is coming back?? 😭

Yup!! I think it’s because my smart home device kept automatically playing Room Where it Happens while I put on some songs to listen to while drawing on the past couple weeks or so.

Now, this show is so excellent all around (yes, some people call it overrated, but come on, people, it got popular for a reason, and I still love it) but can we agree that Room Where it Happens might be at least one of, if not the best numbers??

Leslie Odom Jr. is so incredible. I can’t get enough of his voice and just his overall performance as Burr.

Anyway, I guess I was also thinking about Hamilton again, because fun fact, my sister went to the same college that Lin-Manuel Miranda went to, and one of her friends got to meet him in person:

My sister is insanely cool. I still can’t believe she went to the same college as him.

Finally, random headcanon time because I’m still thinking about Geneuary, but I like to think that Gene is a Hamilton fan and harbors a crush on Hamilton without really realizing it.

This was partially based off the fact that Mabel from Gravity Falls canonically has a crush on Hamilton (she doesn’t remember his name, though 🤣)
