lemme just say something real quick on mone's new program. (posting this here too because idk. taking advantage of no word count limit ig)

we are all worried about mone because she is training with an evil abusive witch, but i don't think it helps anyone if we only think about how exhausted she looks. we can't change her situation, the most we can do is show her that she has our support. also, the dark eyes program is quite different from what she has done before, so it would take some getting used to. i'm not a skater so obviously i'm not the best person to judge her situation, but i believe it's better not to get too worried at this early stage about something that might turn out to be a non-issue later. again, we can't change things anyway. it's only been the first outing of the program, and we don't know how it will develop later. i think the best thing to do right now is wait and see what happens.

and i'm not trying to downplay what's happening to skaters at kinoshita or anything - we know what hamada does to them. i'm just saying we should count our blessings where we can. and i truly do think that mone's skating and this program in particular are a blessing to all of us.

i know i give abe insane amounts of shit for worrying and fretting to an unhinged degree but i actually think him speaking up about pitch count to momoe’s dad was admirable. Like he saw what happened to haruna after he got overworked, of course he isn���t going to immediately trust an adult in this scenario and also doesn’t want to see that happen again. And I think he does have a bit of a point that mihashi loves pitching so much that it could be possible he would pitch through pain, or not notice he’s overdoing it, and with mihashi’s personality, it’s unlilkely he’d be able to properly speak up for himself if that were to happen anyway. it’s not hard to imagine an alternate version of events where he DID have too high of a pitch count, and abe didn’t speak up about his unease, and mihashi tried to hide any issues from him or didnt notice them until it was too late or etc etc etc, and ended up in a bad spot. idk abe trying to take a stand on his behalf for his sake is sweet lol and it takes guts to stand up to a much older adult coach like that (not that abe has ever been lacking in guts). im glad that mr momoe assauged his fears and also that he fully explained to them that he truly and earnestly won’t let them get hurt, and that he has their best interests in mind, and explained how everything he wants them to do will benefit them. idk, i like this part of the manga

I also only posted about the results bc I shared the nominations before not bc I personally find any value in that. I never watched any edition or video from the award not when Yuzu won and not now. Fanyus were right to boycott this award and I will do that too.

“Thank you for coming in, Mr. Uchiha, Mrs. Uchiha.” The principal tapped his fingers against the desk, an exhausted note to his aged face.

“You said Sarada was facing suspension,” Sasuke began, eyes narrowing as the child on the other side of him squirmed in her chair at the reminder. “What happened?”

“My daughter’s never been a troublemaker in her life! I don’t know how it happened, but this is not how we raised her.” Sakura added with a glance of concern to the little girl.

“Ah, yes. Well.” Clearing his throat, the older man pulled a sheet of paper out from the little stack on his desk and turned it so they could read. “Today at recess, she got into an altercation with a boy from another class. There are several witnesses as well as the recess monitor herself, who can verify if needed.”

“Yes, but what happened?” Sasuke pressed, leaning closer to the desk. “That can’t be all. Sarada doesn’t pick fights unless provoked.”

Here, the man paused. He glanced towards Sarada, who up to this point had been quiet. “Sarada? Would you mind telling your parents what happened?”

All eyes on the dark-haired girl, her face flushed with embarrassment and a twinge of upset. “He called Chocho fat, Mama. I had to hit him.”

Sakura’s brow furrowed. “Your friend, Chocho? Chouji and Karui's girl?”

“Yes.” Sarada folded her arms across her chest. “He’s a bully. He always picks on her and I’m tired of nobody doing anything about it.”

“... So you hit him.” Her father deadpanned, his face unreadable.

She pouted. “I didn’t hit him hard…”

“Sarada, I get that you were upset for your friend, but you have to understand that hitting others is wrong.” The principal persuaded, a frown wrinkling his face. “You needed to tell Miss Kuroi--”

“Miss Kuroi knows he’s been bullying Chocho and she doesn’t do anything about it!” The little girl exclaimed.

“Hold on. Wait.” Sakura held up a hand, a stern look directed towards her daughter. “You’ve tried telling an adult.”

“Yes.”

“You told your friends.”

“They saw everything.”

“And your friends told the adult.”

“She just told him to ‘play nice’.” Sarada’s stare was almost as searing as her mother’s as she air-quoted it.

Slowly,  she turned her burning stare on the principal. A bead of sweat trickled down his face. “Why are you allowing your staff to overlook obvious signs of bullying? This is ridiculous. We pay you a good sum of money for a good education for our daughter and this is what you call ‘teaching’?”

“U- um, well, Mrs. Uchiha, Miss Kuroi is new here, and isn’t quite used to our code of conduct…”

“So instead of taking the time to teach your staff how to deal with this, you would rather be content to wait until someone gets hurt - like my daughter punching a bully because he’s hurting her friend - to reap the consequences?” She scoffed, folding her arms, brow pinched. “I am a licensed children’s psychologist, Mr. Hamada. I’ve seen firsthand how abusive behavior between children will lead to emotional and mental issues later in life. I've been that bully before. I know how damaging that can be to a young mind.”

“This is unacceptable,” Sasuke agreed, irritation in his voice. “What about the boy? Has he gotten consequences for what he did?”

“Not for being punched, he hasn’t!” The principal balked. “My staff has had to discipline him once or twice for bad behavior, but he’s done nothing to be suspended over.”

“According to the student handbook, repeated abusive behavior is liable for suspension, regardless if it’s a student or staff member. So you would rather let him bully other students and cause them harm than admit you messed up somewhere?” Sakura’s voice was very close to raising, but a hand on her shoulder from her husband made her take a steadying breath. “Mr. Hamada, I will not be accepting my daughter’s suspension. In fact, if you do suspend her for fighting, we will personally take her out of this school and find somewhere else for her education. I will not allow adults to be bad influences for my daughter in a place preparing her for the adult world.”

“Bad influences? Mrs. Haruno, surely--”

“You will reverse the suspension.” The mother’s voice was a deadly quiet.

“I- I can’t just veto a decision that my staff and I have come together to make,” he protested weakly, shrinking under the father’s glare. “The best I can do is reconvene and-- and have a parent-teacher conference with the Akimichis as well…?”

“And the boy’s parents,” she firmly added.

“And the Garous,” the principal said quietly.

“Make a date, then we’ll talk about suspensions.” The pink-haired woman grabbed her purse and her husband’s arm, rising from her chair. “We’ll be taking Sarada for the rest of the day.”

“Of course, ma’am.” Mr. Hamada nodded rapidly, dabbing at his forehead with a handkerchief from his pocket. “You, uh, you have a wonderful day now.”

“We’ll certainly try,” Sasuke flatly answered, taking Sarada’s hand and leading her out of the room behind his wife.

As soon as the door was shut behind them, Sarada looked up, worried. “Am I in trouble?” She asked quietly.

Almost immediately, Sakura’s fierce expression melted into something soft, and she knelt before her. “No, Sara. In fact, I’m very proud of you. You did the right thing.”

“But… but I got in trouble for punching him.”

"Well, yes, but you did everything I told you to do in that situation: you notified an adult, you got witnesses to tell an adult, and you tried to de-escalate. You only used force as a last resort, not a first."

“You showed restraint.” Sasuke chimed in, making her look up at him. There was a strange sort of amusement in his face. “Had it been your mother, the kid definitely would’ve kept a wide berth after that. You really would've gotten suspended.”

“Anata,” Sakura groaned, cheeks burning red. "I'm not that hotheaded anymore..."

"No," he agreed with a chuckle in his voice. "You're fierce."

Sarada giggled at her mother’s embarrassment, stepping closer for a hug. Her perfume tickled her senses pleasantly, as did her soft pink hair against her cheek.

“C’mon,” the dark-haired man gestured towards the door. “Let’s get some ice cream.”

The joy in his daughter’s face brought a smile to his own as he walked with his good hand pressed gently against Sakura’s back, the little girl’s arms wrapped around her mother’s.

Class of Heroes AU: More Headcanons!!!

As a treat, folks, after which I might be done for a few days. Unless I think of something I just HAVE to share, lol. Have some more Headcanons!

*Ondine is the youngest of seven daughters. Their names are Olivia, Ophelia, Octavia, Olga, Oona and Olympia.

*She and Kagami are in Mendeliev’s class (Yen Sid in this AU.) Her classmates, especially Denise and Aurore are protective of her because of her naïveté and lack of knowledge of the surface world. They and Kim have had to get her out of dangerous situations where her curiosity got the better of her.

*Kim was raised by his two mortal fathers after his uncle’s henchmen turned him into a mortal. (His biological parents are, of course, Zeus and Hera.) He buys them a huge house once he’s successful as a hero.

*Xuppu serves as Pegasus, but he actually likes Ondine because she’s just too darn sweet. He’s always nosing Kim out of the way to receive affection from her.

*Kim was NOT very well-liked back in his hometown for his lack of control over his strength. He was often shunned and called horrible names for the accidents he caused, as well as his lack of intellectual prowess. This, and his discovering his true heritage, was what made his fathers decide to send him to the school.

*In this AU, Kagami has three younger brothers: Daisuke, Daijiro, and Daiki. True to Brave, they are demon spawn. (Their father died in battle.)

*I’m changing something from a previous post: Plagg is still Mushu, but Tikki is now Cri Kee. She is silently judging you.

*Adrien does not fence in this AU. His preferred weapon is a certain cooking implement.

*Nino has a tendency to add ‘Bibbidi-Bobbidi’ before other B words. (“What a Bibbidi-Bobbidi bummer, bro!”) Some people think it’s funny, others find it annoying.

*Ivan has mild kyphosis(I had to look this up), which causes him to slightly hunch over and have mild to moderate back pain.

*Alya works jobs at diners before and after school to bring in extra money for her family. She is one of few students who work.

*Mylene has a habit of sometimes speaking in rhyme, especially when she’s really happy about something. Ivan thinks it’s very cute. (This is a nod to the original animated film.)

*Max likes to listen to Fall Out Boy (heh) while he works on his machines. What? Nerds can like rock music! (He is Hiro Hamada, to clear up confusion!)

*He transferred to Francois Preparatory Academy from a prestigious tech institution after an…incident that he doesn’t like to talk about.

*Sabrina (Pinocchio) was part of a puppet show as a young child. She often has nightmares about the abuse she suffered there, and Aurore is needed to come comfort her.

*Cosette is incredibly close with the other four members of their band, sharing a sibling-like bond. It calls and face-times with them on a regular basis, and has introduced them to all of her new friends.

*When Lacey gets especially angry, her face turns bright red and she’ll launch into a rant in ‘fairy-speak’ (the squeaking noises that the humans hear in the TB movies). Her wings also start fluttering rapidly and she sometimes slams into the ceiling…

*When Marc was young, he accidentally struck his younger brother, Kiran, with his ice magic. Their mothers, the queens, didn’t blame him, but sadly they died in a shipwreck only a few months later. After that, the cruel royal advisor convinced Marc that he was a dangerous monster and isolated him from the kingdom and his brother.

*Zoé has a list of 65 different chores she has to do for Chloé each day. They eat up a lot of her time, but not as much since her friends started helping her. They’re working on convincing her to make Chloé do them herself.

*Denise prefers to sleep outside amongst the trees, because it reminds them of their stump back home. Simon brought them a pillow and a blanket one night because he was worried about them.

*When Reshma is agitated by something or someone, you can tell because poison ivy starts sprouting up around her feet.

*Bustier is still a suck-tastic teacher. She will scold Kim and Marinette harshly for damage they cause completely by accident (her clumsiness and his strength), she berates Ivan for bad posture despite it literally being a physical health condition, she frequently suggests that Adrien should cut his hair because it looks too feminine, she regularly threatens Alix with legal action for incidents with her kleptomania despite her almost always returning what she takes, she forces Juleka to sit in the back of the room and doesn’t often allow her to speak lest she ‘frighten’ other students, she has outright referred to Sabrina as an ‘it’ (meaning an object, a non-living piece of wood, not the pronouns, which are completely valid.) and a ‘toy’ rather than a girl, and of course, she lets Chloé get away with everything.

I’m looking for ideas for Lila and Felix, baddie and anti-hero respectively, as well as a fitting new name for Mor’du. Be sure to check out my poll about Chloé!

Diamond is Unbreakable: Episode 2 Review

Clever animation, fast edits, and emotional poignancy.

The drama present in the second episode of Diamond is Unbreakable is impeccable. It’s an episode that effectively ties the battle between the protagonist and antagonist to the characters involved, and it is perfectly paced, constantly using quick shots and bursts of animation to display its action clearly and effectively. Not a single cut lasts longer than it needs to, and every line of dialogue and action is also motivated by the ways in which these characters have already been established while simultaneously adding new depth to them.

The perfect example of this comes with the death of Ryohei, Josuke’s grandfather. We admittedly don’t have much reason to be invested in Ryohei’s death yet, but the desperation with which Josuke attempts to revive his grandfather gives us the emotional tie we need, and it reveals to us the same kindness and compassion that Tomoko told us about in the last episode.1

Jotaro’s speech adds to this as well, explaining the kindness of Josuke in the face of brutality, as well as bringing up the idea of the Joestar family curse here and the danger resting upon Stand users, a theme of this series that means that Josuke, simply by virtue of being part of this story, is probably going to experience even more pain and suffering.

Angelo himself is fascinating as well, mostly thanks to the phenomenal voicework of Kenji Hamada, who imbues the sociopathic criminal with an instability rivalling that of Mark Hamill’s interpretation of The Joker. This is a character who, after accidentally stepping in dogshit, turns on the owner and forces his Stand through his mouth and out his ears using the blood that spurted in his mouth from the head of the severed dog he just bit off.

That action, more than Jotaro’s monologue, establishes Angelo as the worst and most dangerous criminal part of society, blending in with humanity but turning violent at the slightest offense, and so it’s incredibly fitting that when Angelo is on the ground, begging for Josuke to pass the judgement along to society, he is turned into a landmark monument in Morioh for tourists to look upon. The villain here is made a public spectacle, and Josuke leaves it to society to judge him with all his grotesque nature revealed.

Stray Observations

1It is obviously more effective this time around, by virtue of showing rather than telling.

Josuke punches through the chest of his second innocent person this week. It’s pretty crazy, and I love how much Araki abuses “healing powers” to put as much body horror on display as he can. (Though to be fair, David Productions is more indulgent here than he ever was).

Now that we’re on the second episode, I have a bit of a confession to make: I can’t stand “monster-of-the-week” formulas. It takes a lot of work for a series to get me invested enough in its characters that I can care about their struggle against a new, generally meaningless antagonist, and there are very few series out there that pass that muster at all. (Other exceptions: Doctor Who, Fringe, Young Justice, and Supernatural (when it’s at its best)).

Here’s another confession: I adore Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, but I also don’t care that much for Stardust Crusaders, because of the first half’s intense reliance on Stand-of-the-week without ever bothering to give stakes or investment into each new enemy. There were exceptions of course; Enya, Hol Horse, and Empress come to mind, and this problem is nonexistent once they arrive in Egypt, but for the most part, each new antagonist served as nothing more than an obstacle in their path that they had to overcome in order to pursue the goals they actually cared about, which makes for boring, unnecessary conflict. (There’s still a decent “camp” value to a lot of the fights, and they’re beautifully animated and acted, which is why I was able to keep watching, despite not really caring about anything going on).

“I never thought a Stand that uses water could be so terrifying.” But you fought Enya, Jotaro. And her stand was fog! Fog! Good grief.

Uhh…so, this is going to take some thinking. Mostly because I am confused by what you mean, exactly. Uhh…

Rapunzel:

Well, obviously, I love to fall back on the whole "Destined Sun and Moon" thing with them, but when that's not an option, I like having her recognize he has a crush and growing closer to him.

Or, even better, them meeting in a way different from canon and falling in love by chance.

Then there's the case of "The Love Doctor", where it's purely sexual and otherwise they're friends.

Varian flirting with her while he's being a villain is also really fun, with her trying to convince herself she hates him for what he's doing but slowly falling in love.

Or, in the case of "The Secret of the Black Rocks", they're both trying to deny catching feelings while stuck together for long periods of time while on their way to the Dark Kingdom.

Cassandra:

Honestly, I prefer AUs where Varian is nineteen so it's not as questionable to be with her, a 23 year old woman. While the concept of "teenager" didn't actually exist until the 1900s, apparently, it's just better for them to be closer to the same age.

Though, I do enjoy writing fics where Cassandra has to contend with Varian's overprotective dad and the age difference, haha. So much drama!

They make a cute couple, when she's not being a cold-hearted wench that uses him for her own ends.

Eugene:

Varian is his stalker. Literally his stalker. At some point, I will write a modern AU where he is actually being as creepy towards him as Marinette is to Adrien in "Miraculous Ladybug", because he is a massive fanboy and stalker. Why did he have some of his hair from a ponytail that got cut off years ago? Why did he have his broken knives, his boot, his old, damaged satchels? Why did he have such perfect Wanted posters when the old guy that makes Wanted posters couldn't get any of them right?

Varian's stalker tendencies towards Eugene aside, I could see them actually being a cute couple, once Varian was older or in an AU where he's nineteen and not fourteen. I really like exploring his fanboy side about Eugene, even in "Untouchable", where he was stalking him by watching him through the rocks with his powers for years.

Andrew:

Typically, I prefer them to be platonic. But, in situations where they aren't platonic, if anything happens before he's an adult, then I fall back on Asshole Andrew, who is the abusive asshole that features in a lot of my old V&7K fics, though I have yet to actually have him do anything to him during their time together taking over, usually having Andrew get revenge on him after Varian is on his journey. But, generally, I prefer to keep it platonic. He needs an older brother-figure he can count on.

In an AU where they aren't platonic but he's still not an asshole, I can see Andrew being a complete gentleman and starting off by flirting with Varian by complimenting his works and then he'd show off his own and they'd gradually fall in love over time while spending time together.

And then there's their messed-up relationship in "Your Biggest Fan", where Andrew is basically his prisoner/sex-slave/guinea pig for all his crazy sex gadgets.

Juniper:

Gonne be honest…never even once. I just can't really see them as a couple, so I have no idea for how it could go.

Hugo:

Hugo is Varian's fan, whether he admits it or not. It's just hard for him not to admire someone that brought a royal family to their knees before magic intervened. No self-respecting criminal wouldn't admire that kind of accomplishment.

Going by concept Hugo, Varian and Hugo make jabs back and forth while Hugo is blatently obvious about his criminal acts and Varian is trying to hide who he used to be. They don't even admit they like each other until the very end of their journey, and so they don't do much until they're settled into Corona. Hugo and Varian trade off on who is the dominant one in the bedroom and the kitchen, because Hugo is too determined to prove he's better than Varian to admit that Varian's cooking is way better. Varian humors his burning scrambled eggs because he loves him too much to tell him they taste bad.

Going by my own lore, Hugo and Varian are friends-with-benefits while Varian explores things in the bedroom with other people and Hugo internally screams about wanting him for himself and cursing convincing him that it was normal for scientists to have open relationship and free love.

In an AU where Hugo meets Varian while he's a villain, maybe got caught trying to steal from the castle when Varian was in charge, he would probably start off strip-searching him to make sure he didn't take anything and then interrogate him with truth serum and then convince him to "stick around" to try to get Hugo's boss "Donella" to "come for a visit". He would flirt with him and, if he's an adult in this AU, totally seduce him into banging.

Nuru:

Honestly, I have never actually thought of them being together in any way but platonically. Maybe that will change, eventually, but right now I don't have any ideas.

Yong:

Not a single shippy idea for these two. Absolutely none. I ship Yong with Kiera and that's it. No one else.

Faith:

Varian and Faith first met when Varian was working on chores for Cassandra and they bonded over frustrating adults and living up to the expectations and dealing with disappointments from their family. During Varian's criminal stint, Faith spoke in his defense until her mother told her to stop, for her family's sake, and later helped Varian with the takeover.

When Varian is Royal Engineer, she supports him by bringing him snacks so he doesn't have to leave his important work to get food and they grow closer and he asks her out one day, which she is flustered about but agrees. Rapunzel catches wind of it, "helps" makes the day "special" and while Rapunzel is cleaning up the mess, they sneak off to have an actual private first date.

They go on several dates for a year before Varian asks her to marry him and she accepts.

As a married couple, they're both doting parents and Varian is a doting husband both in and out of the bedroom.

Vex:

Aside from them meeting briefly in TREL, I haven't thought of how things might go for them as a couple.

Willow:

No. Absolutely not.

Arianna:

Canon-wise, I could see him getting together with her after Frederic passed away to spite his grave. I don't see him actually having romantic feelings for her, especially if he's a villain.

For other situations, see "It's a Deal, Then" and there's mention of them being in bed together in "The Love Doctor" but, again, not romantic.

Gothel:

No. No, I'm sorry, I can't, I just can't. I try, all I see is her in a mother-figure role to him. It's not happening.

Zhan Tiri:

Zhan Tiri would approach him in disguise to try to take advantage of him, either for his alchemy or the Moonstone.

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III:

…No. I don't ship it. At all. Aside from daddy issues and inventing, I don't see them actually finding anything in common. But, then, it's been a while since I watched the movies/series.

Dipper Pines:

Dipper and Varian would absolutely nerd out and get into trouble together and spend time together, and then Dipper starts catching feelings and chewing his shirt and Rapunzel gets it out of him and bullies him into confessing to Varian.

Once dating, they pretty much do the same stuff as before, but there's kissing involved and some screwing.

Mabel Pines:

Mabel would start off picking Varian as her new Crush-of-the-Week but realizes after a while that it's not a crush, and he likes her back, and she starts to panic because she has commitment issues and she starts hiding from him and Dipper talks sense into her and she starts actually dating Varian, but she wants to "take it slow" because commitment is scary to her.

Hiro Hamada:

Weird to put this here and not Gideon, since I have never, not once, written anything with Hiro or Hiccup, but okay.

I think they'd be cute friends, but I don't really see Hiro being into romance. Maybe it's just me, but he's always seemed to be disinterested in that kind of thing. But then, I've never seen the series. Maybe he falls in love with someone. Dunno. Honestly, I don't know enough about Hiro to think of anything.

Big hero 6 est un film d’animation de Marvel Comics sorti en 2015. Le film se concentre sur Hiro Hamada, un garçon de 14 ans, prodige de la technologie et principalement de la robotique. Il développe des microbots mais suite à la mort de son grand frère causée par des enemis, il va rassembler une équipe de super héros utilisant leur technologies pour combattre contre les personnes malveillantes qui de leur côté utilise cette technologie pour le mal.

Ce que je trouve intéressant dans ce film, c’est l’enjeu/ la morale que l’on peut tirer du film. Ce film a pour but de sensibiliser les plus jeunes vis-à-vis des technologies à travers une histoire divertissante, en expliquant l’impact qu’une technologie peut avoir. Celle-ci peut d’un côté être novatrice et utile mais aussi destructive et abusive. Cela se reflète bien avec la vie réelle et toute les nouvelles technologies qui sont dans le but d’accroître le savoir et la performance des machines. L’enjeu est qu’il faut prêter attention à l’utilisation des technologies

he was also one of the few ppl to stand by amber heard for example. ray fisher vouches for him to this day, after all the issues he's had with wb over work abuse & racism under whedon & johns & hamada. like he's not perfect, but there was a reason i was a fan of him for so long.
