Day of Finnish Music +Käärijä part 2

December 8th is the day of Finnish music, so today l'm writing an updated post of Finnish music (and culture) references in Käärijä's music on the People's Champion (2024) album.

Paula Koivuniemi Tummat silmät ruskea tukka (dark eyes and brown hair)

Ready to Go * Only thing I have for this song is Käärijä using the term 'maitojuna', which is literally 'milk train'. It's a saying that if you go out to the big city and don't make it, you come home in a milk train.

Cheek & Yasmine Yamako Syypää sun hymyyn (reason for your smile) Directly referred to. These lyrics translate 'syypää' as 'a/the reason' and it's not actually wrong but 'syypää' denotes more guilt, more responsibility meaning. Especially with the following lyrics being 'rooliini tyydyn', I'm resigned to my role.

Cheek was a big deal for years in Finnish music but he's since retired. I wanted to add the Moomins video set to his Timantit on ikuisia which is the best thing he contributed to Finnish music but I can't find it right now.

Duudsonit or Dudesons is a group of men doing crazy shit like the Jackass dudes. Not adding a video because I never really followed them but there are lots videos on youtube.

Yllytyshullut (Dare crazies?) was a show from 1998 to 2003 where people on the street were dared to do a bunch of random things for not that much money.

Ruoska Käärijä referes to this commercial that is apparently a meme.

Autiomaa

Lucky Luke is a well known cartoon and comic book Finland. It is originally Belgian. The Daltons nickname comes from the antagonists of this series.

Sex=Money

Danny Kesäkatu Danny has been famous since the 1960s and still performs today, I think, he's 82 years old. Kadulla on kuuma lyrics refers to this song and he claims to be bigger than him, too. He tried to enter Eurovision in 1966 but didn't make it.

Huh hah hei

Addition to last year's post: Huh hah hei ja rommia pullo is from Treasure Island and I swear there's some kids pirate song using those lyrics but I can't find it.

Though Popeda also has a song with that name. So check that out.

It's Crazy It's Party

Risto Räppääjä ja Viileä Venla Mageet sanat . I mentioned Matti Nykänen (originator of elämä on laiffii) and others said the lyrics also reminded them of this, so here you go.

Jan: Turmion Kätilöt - Teurastaja

Explanation: honestly the pure reason I picked this is because I wanted a heavy metal song for Jan because he gives such stereotypical finnish heavy metal guy vibes. Also the lyrics are funny in a very ??????? way.

Kris: Haloo Helsinki! - Beibi

Explanation: Do I really need to explain this one? The song title is literally Baby. It's a mix of bokris and bakery lmao. The protag is making love at 6 AM to someone they thought they shouldn't really love but is now head over heels into them.

Bojan: Tiktak - Heilutaan

Explanation: The song's about life's struggles and being a bit lost but being able to trust in your friends to get you through it anyways. The mood is really cheery. Also the line "ehkä väsyttää vähän mutta nyt ei nukuta" (maybe a bit tired but we ain't sleeping now) is very Bojan to me.

Jure: Klamydia - Pienen Pojan Elämää

Explanation: The title of the song is "the life of a small boy" and the lyrics are about all the mischef boys get up to. Then in the 3rd verse it's revealed he didn't change that much growing up and why should he have if he's having so much fun?

Nace: Tehosekoitin - Maailma On Sun

Explanation: my take on the lyrics is that it's about being happy of what you have. The last few lines of the chorus goes "you're beautiful, you're beautiful and the world is yours" and idk it's giving Nace vibes to me because it's a comfort song of mine and Nace gives such similar positive vibes.

Cereal of choice: I have a problem with cereals I love them!!! My favourits are honey puff like cereals and those that are squares filled with chocolate or milk. Those are ddelicious GIVE ME CEREALS!!

Are you a visual, audio, or kinesthetic learner: I remember that we have to do this test at the Uni and I was like a mix. Most of the time I doodle while taking notes and when revising stuff I need to move around my room. Also, when I am thinking in general I need music or a podcast while pacing around and a small notebook where I can write down any idea that crosses my mind or doubt while revising something. I tent to do more than one thing at once so, pacing while listening helps me so... Audio-kinasthetic-reading learner

First pet: There is a festivity here Los tres Reyes Magos, Three Wise Men, that we celebrate durign the Xmas time. That night my neighbours dog gave birth to who would be my first truthful friend. I woke up and the neighbour told us that the mother couldn't pass the night. In a small basket they got both pups, one seemed so full of energy the other one was curled up and shaking. I got the curld one without a second though and hugged them. He would be my friend for more than 10 years. I miss him a lot. He got the name of my favourite journalist ever but I keep it for myself ;) Friends know his name.

Favorite scent: Baked cookies, cinammon, but mostly flowery scents like lavender and also, please do not laugh, there is this deodorant chocolate scented ...wow.

Do you believe in astrology: I prefer to keep my thoughts to myself on this one, yet I find astrology interesting but I would not let it choose my life or stuff like that. It is very interestign to have a look at it.

How many playlists do you have on Spotify/apple music: 10

Sharpies or highlighters: Highlighters! I actually enjoy the layers that you can do with them and they got this Cyberpunk effect when done right that I love.

A song that makes you cry: ‘Fucking Perfect' by P!nk or 'The crow and the butterfly' Shinedown.

A song that makes you happy: ‘Lady Domina' Haloo Helsinki! or 'Master of the House' Les Miserables the musical... I have a problem with musicals in general.

And finally do you draw/write/create? I write and draw, a different thing is that I have the guts to call what I do something creative or even worthy. But I just do it, hoping to get better eventually... hope is the key word there. So I do both and technically create since both are creations *badum tsch* I also do tons of memes so...that's creations too, isn't it? One day I may post here those abominations that I call memes.
