SN1 vs SN2 for Haloalkanes
-- depends on substitution of alkyl halide
Methyl -- CH3-X -- favors SN2 -- SN1 does not occur -- this is because the methyl carbocation is too unstable
Primary -- R-CH2-X -- favors SN2 -- SN1 is rare -- primary carbocations are unstable
Secondary -- R2-CH-X -- SN2 favored in aprotic solvents with good nucleophiles -- SN1 favored in protic solvents with poor nucleophiles
Tertiary -- R3-C-X -- SN2 does not occur -- this is due to steric hindrance -- SN1 is favored

Haloalkanes and Haloarenes already exist in the environment; surprise? During the Vietnam war, haloarenes were used as herbicides to deplete jungles so that that war would become easy.

Reminder that the para-isomers are high melting as compared to their ortho and meta-isomers. It is due to symmetry of para-isomers that fits in crystal lattice better as compared to ortho- and meta-isomers.

thankkk youuu sooo much! I really loved the book you recommended, Cotton's Basic inorganic chemistry, and all the advice.
actually, I'm in high school but in my country, the syllabus is designed in such a way that we have to go in really deep(basically for the tough entrance exam) so everything you told from orbitals to CFT was relevant. so thank you<3
can you please suggest a book for ochem as well?
I have to cover everything from the nomenclature to haloalkanes and haloarenes, alcohols, phenols and ethers, amines, ketones, etc.
You're very welcome! Also, holy cow, what an ambitious approach to education 😳 In that case I think I can safely rec the textbooks I used during my ochem course in uni: Vollhardt & Schore's Organic Chemistry would be my first choice. For some reason I found it a little chaotic at first, but once I adjusted to its style I actually preferred it to the other course book. The explanations are very clear and comprehensive, there are step by step mechanisms, and these guys are like. Really dedicated to consistency lol for example the leaving group will be drawn in the same color throughout the whole textbook. I gotta appreciate that.
This other course book was McMurry's Organic Chemistry. It wasn't bad, but I thought sometimes it went way too deep for a basic ochem course. It really depends on the person though - some of my course mates liked this one better.
Good luck with everything! 🍀

11 and 12 Jan
29 and 30 DOP
hi everyone 👋🏻 hope your doing well, so today like I had the best day and I'm kinda happy .
Today I realised how helpless I am when it comes to saying I love you or I am sorry or thanks to my sister (every brown desi family issue) so basically I was in a fight with her over some badminton game yeah ik I was a little disrespectful (definitely not a little) but we were not talking for like 3 days but today she was not home and she sends me some takeout food and I felt bad and I thought that I should just text her thanks and sorry but it took me a while to write that and she didn't even responded like I was dying from inside she just left me on read and comes home and we are talking again like nothing happened.
Things I did :
Completed Electromagnetic induction ✅
Completed human health and diseases ✅
Completed Haloarenes and Haloalkanes ✅
And also played badminton ✅
And cleaned my room (basically my mom did I just moved the bed for her which counts right ?)
Okay see you all bye take care
