Hundreds of nurses rallied outside several Ontario hospitals on Thursday to demand that CEOs improve staffing levels across the province. The Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA), which represents 68,000 registered nurses, health care professionals and student affiliates, said it wants hospital leaders to implement registered nurse-to-patient staffing ratios to ensure quality of care. Such ratios represent the maximum number of patients that can be cared for by one nurse in a particular hospital unit. "Safe staffing saves lives and it makes your nurses want to stay," said Liz Romano, an intensive care nurse at Toronto General Hospital for nearly 45 years and bargaining unit president for the ONA at Toronto General and Toronto Western Hospitals.

I highly recommend the book The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper by Hallie Rubenhold and the free podcast, Bad Women (S1) by Pushkin which covers the same material (though the book has more detail).

It's not about the crime or Jack the Ripper, it's about the women who were killed, the majority of whom were not connected with the sex trade at all. Their lives are fascinating and so full of different experiences. The book is an amazing window into the lives of lower/middle class women and their struggles.

Though it's set in the Victorian era, the ways these women and others in poverty were treated and thought of is hauntingly familiar. Disability and mental health problems are a major factor in many of the women's lives as well.

Also, the British military backdated someone's marriage so their kids would be legitimate and I find that strangely satisfying.

Am i the only one who really dislikes the talon grayson shit? I genuinely don’t think the court of owls is very interesting in general, but their relationship to dick and hally circus specifically really rubs me the wrong way. It’s like writers took a story about normal, well intentioned people (that in some versions have mary and john being poc, which only furthers the racist stereotype that romani folks are “sketchy”) who were struck by tragedy, and made it into a whole ass conspiracy theory that ruins the point of multiple minor characters who already didn’t get much attention from the comics, but especially, it ruins the point of nightwing and his origin.

Do we really need another character who was raised to be a super secret and important weapon that is tied to random stuff across the whole universe? Don’t we already have two of those? Don’t you think it’s better when batman characters are just normal people??

Just. what was even the point of that??
