Day 11. Details for @redthreaded's #fallforcostume  This one comes from my 1/2 scale costume I designed and built for a Getty-sponsored UCLA course in grad school. The assignment was to do an artistic response to the Ensor painting "Christ's Entry into Brussels 1889". My piece is called "Imperial March" and was about the social/political unrest in Belgium that Ensor depicted in the painting. Most prominently it was about King Leopold II of Belgium who was the imperial conqueror of the Congo as well as a fairly unpopular ruler at home. The details, which included 1/2 scale metals, a crucifix, and bells in the shape of hands, were all 3D modeled and printed by me. Though I love the overall silhouette of this costume, the story in this one is definitely in the details: each one was another piece of the story of Belgium at the time.
