Just started the Malabrigo Ultimate Mohair KAL. Finished this week and we'll see how it goes and if I finish.

I'm using Malabrigo Ultimate Sock in Cereza and Maalabrigo Mohair in Heirloom Vegetables. The pattern is called Chevron Delight Shawl by Lora Marin and it is available for free on Ravelry. I'm using size 7 needles with size 8 to cast on and size 11 to cast off.

My cat is helping hold the project down so it doesn't fly away.

wait let me just show you the rainbow we made I think it's actually pretty cute

this week is pride in my city and we've done a rainbow-project all spring with my kids at preschool and we've had this huge rainbow flag on our wall and I just feel like this would be the perfect time to make them understand part of what that flag actually means but they are so tiny. I once tried to tell to the oldest kids in our group that the flag has different colors that come together to create a beautiful rainbow, just like all of us kids in our group are different and when we all come together is when we're at our very best. They listened to me for like 10 seconds before they were like "I like blue the best" "No I like blue!!!" and started fighting.

Aha, I shall affix a very small floating shelf beneath the K/S print. To punctuate it. That will nicely fill the space. One of those halfcircle or smallcircular shelves suitable for a single teacup. Wooden, probably. Someday I’ll find it.

Notes On Writing - The Oasis

I find myself struggling to get lost in writing the way I used to. I feel like the long bouts of binged writing sessions have left me. Now I find time on train rides, between classes, and before bed. No more getting drunk on words.

The sound of kids philosophizing on the jungle gym. The breeze that only comes by intermittently. The distant smell of traffic. All these are now spaces to write. Spaces to find clarity. Spaces where my thoughts are my own. And I am in between.

I look at a page, half filled with words about words, and realize my drunken nature is no more.

Sometimes I am as confused as a child running in the sun as they complain of the heat. No moments of shade will come until I slow to a stop and rest. Knowing that searching for an oasis is as vital as anything else, I can find respite in words - Like a drink of freshwater.

I am happy to pour myself a glass, but like a twisted Christ, my words have gone from wine to something packing less punch. I don't know what it was about those times before. Those times where bitters & salt rimmed my scenes. There was something different.

Now my words sober me.

I find clarity at the bottom. No more stained halfcircles beneath them. Just a thin trace of humidity leaving marks on the coffee table. The kind that wipe away easy.

Is it that I am a reasonably happy person? Or maybe I am just happily reasonable now. You see the trouble with triton, is that we are unsure.
