Absolutely.

For published books: Jennifer E. Smith got me into writing again after a long break. I adore her YA and I'm currently reading my first Adult Book by her.

Polly Atkins - just... ugh... - her book "Some of us just fall" I can't recommend enough, it's so touching. If possible, listen to the audiobook she narrates herself. I could get lost in it.

Emily Henry too, though I have to skip the spicy scenes, so I don't really recommend her that much.

For Fanfiction authors (I'm just naming my top four here, so if you're not on there, doesn't mean I don't admire your work😘):

@star-trekkin-across-theuniverse with her plotting and research and just... those stories don't seem to age. Whenever I'm done or sick or just need a refresher, I go back to her fics. My favorite: Cover you in Oil

@revasserium - for that flowy, dreamy way of writing where you use so many comparisons you get lost in the atmosphere of the moment. No one describes a kiss like her (pointing at her last Zoro fic)

@shoulmate for the gut punch of a plottwist, satisfying endings and just the sweet sweet taste of a perfect little drabble. Also her team dynamics are so amazing. Her Gen pics are so amazing.

@amjustagirl for the character development and characterization. You can tell she's thought her stuff through. The Storm Chaser Universe is something you can read again and again (my favorite is the Kita fic although it's a really close call because all of them are amazing).

Fanfic Recs: Kuroko no Basket

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but let me say it again. Kuroko no Basket is one of my first (true) loves. It inspired me to write again after going into a hiatus, so it holds a very special place in me. My favorite KnB fics are mostly canon-compliant fanfics that explore the facets of the friendship portrayed in anime/manga. Love for friends IS one of the thematic cores on the series, imo, and the manga effortlessly shows that, too.

Without further ado, here is my first set of recs!

Canon-compliant fanfics

Crossroads, and Other Places We Met by deplore

Author’s summary: A list of things in the Generation of Miracles’ metaphorical closet: many, many basketballs, most of which are discolored and leather-worn. Lucky items that Midorima has left behind, more for the others than for himself. Single shoes that have long lost their partners and almost forgotten what it is like to be whole. Empty snack bags and ice cream wrappers. A single skeleton. It’s been almost three years, and it’s about time to clear everything out.

Thoughts: My absolute favorite, pun unintended. A very realistic take on the aftermath of the WinterCup where dented friendships are mended. Will warm the cockles of your heart, 10/10.

Ask A Stupid Question by desdemona (starblessed)

Author’s summary: It all started because Momoi and Kuroko were tired of being considered the "innocent ones" among the Generation of Miracles. Kuroko, in his infinite wisdom, decided that if they were going to be given the reputation, they might as well take advantage of it. It was the worst idea of their lives.

Thoughts: Laughter-filled fanfic. Read how Kuroko and Momoi’s plans backfire on them. The GOM (+ Nijimura-san) never disappoint, after all.

The Bridges Between Us by courtingstars (FallingSilver) 

Author’s summary: Sometimes you need to say, “I’m sorry,” but you have no idea where to start. After the Winter Cup finals, Kuroko meets with the rest of the Generation of Miracles. But old wounds and a year of separation have damaged their former friendships. The distance between them may be too far to bridge—and at least one of them has other plans.

Thoughts: Verbal closure and apologies are sometimes required to close the wound and heal. This fic shows that really well. It also gives us an interesting, albeit realistic take on Akashi’s “split personality”. Great read.

Anticyclone by orphan_account for half_sleeping

Author’s summary: In which Kise buys an apartment, everyone tries to move in, the Generation of Miracles grow up (or fail to grow up, as it happens), and existential quarter-life crises occur.

Thoughts: Kise-centric fics have always been interesting for me. He’s chaotic, but to be honest, amongst the six GOM members, I think he’s most normal.

Five Times the MiraGen Accidentally Flashed Momoi... by Lys ap Adin (lysapadin)

Author’s summary: Five times Momoi accidentally got more of an eyeful than she'd bargained for (and one time she didn't). Satsuki raised her eyebrows just a bit. "Dai-chan, for pity's sake. Put little Dai-chan away, no one wants to see him."

Thoughts: So much love for Momoi! I’m glad to have found one that accurately portrays her being sweet but also sassy and able to hold her ground with the boys. Tons of laughter for this fic. I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one, too.

Definitely a KnB staple fic! Also, umisabaku has mentioned in the notes that the songs And We Run and Filthy Halls really set the mood for this series, and inspired most of the chapter titles as well. They are currently my favorite songs at the moment, and I highly recommend having them play in the background when you start off this series to get a feel for the tone.

Comments:  Part 1 of the gen series Morning Light. Very angsty! Also, I consider this one of the fandom staple fics - it’s a must read! Here are two really good playlists put together by the author titled It’s a New Dawn and When Did The Sky Turn Black. Two songs that I really think really fit with this fic are Kingdom Come by The Civil Wars and Brother by NEEDTOBREATHE (this is one of my favorite songs acutally, and it makes me feel so ANGSTY).

Comments:  PacRim AU - can I get a Hell Yeah?!  A couple good song recommendations for this fic are Do You Feel Alive and Same Old War.

Summary:  Kuroko was found beaten and unconscious, hanging by his wrists from a basketball hoop in Kaijou's gym with a message cut into his chest and stomach: HEY GENERATION OF MIRACLES. HOW DOES IT FEEL? The GoM are determined to find who hurt him and make them pay, but along the way must face the mistakes they made in middle school, and realize the pain their actions caused others.

Comments:  A good song to pair with this one is All We Do by Oh Wonder.
