*Fun Fact: Because of Haiti’s new found freedom and France’s need for money, France and the United States negotiated the Louisiana purchase for $15 Million Dollars which nearly doubled the area of the United States at that time. #History #BlackHistory #KnowYourHistory #Haiti #1804 #Independence #HaitianIndependence #HaitianIndependenceDay #FirstBlackRepublic https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm4EcvNAUMT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Long Grateful Sentimental Post So Check This Out Right New Years Day Coincides With Haitian Independence Day. 🇭🇹 At The Crib We Eat A Delicious Soup Called Soup Joumou (Lot of Meat & Vegetables That’s Good AF) Them We Go Out & Celebrate With Big Parties In All White Fashion , & Dance The Night Away . Here Pictured From Left To Right Is My Sister Her Mom Tessa & My Mother. (Same Daddy Obv) Now Her Mom Is Like A Mom To Me As Well. She Was My First Step Mother & Gets The OG Title Cuz My Dad Is On Wife No. 3 Now. Hopefully No More Step Moms. We Love Her Too Though Lol. Tessa @Petittessa is also a Capricorn like me and we share a lot of similarities. since I was a little boy she’s always helped looked after me. When I use to travel to Haiti as a kid prob as young as 3yrs old to see my father & family she worked as a Flight Attendant with AA. Somehow her and my Dad made it so that whenever I was on a plane going to Haiti or Miami or back to NY she’d be on the plane ride with me. I probably talked her ear off about nothing but she just listened , maybe occasionally laughed and probably ignored me, I never noticed. A situation like that where she’d have to take care of a child that’s not hers could have been problematic but I never once felt like I was a burden or somebody else’s kid. When I was around her I was her son. When I lived in Fl during my HS yrs me & my sister got much closer. Moms & I spent alot of time hanging out at her house catching Haitian Vibes with all the other company. It didn’t hurt that my sister & I share our Birthdays in January a day apart so those 2 for 1 parties prob made our parents decide to work together a lot more out of convenience lol. Anyways all these years later our Blended Family is still tight as ever and I wanted to share this photo cuz I thought these beautiful women in my life looked amazing. Wishing My Momma Tessa A Happy Birthday. I appreciate you Love Ya Favorite & Only Step Son Nickola #Blessed #MyBeautifulBlendedFamily #HaitianIndependence #HappyBirthday #MadamTessa (at Miami Beach, Florida) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm9jWSwJ94g/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

@Regranned from @welcome_to_haiti - Victoria "Toya" Montou (died 1805) was a female soldier and freedom fighter in the army of Jean-Jacques Dessalines during the Haitian Revolution. She was the person who raised Dessalines, Dessalines was given to her by his dying mother in a forest right after being birthed. Toya was in the forest looking for plants to help her commit suicide.( watch my PREVIOUS POST) ( I had to slightly edit, because Wiki don't have all of the faccts) Toya Montou was not the only woman to serve in the Haitian army during the revolution, but mostly, the names of the female soldiers are forgotten; other exceptions are Marie-Jeanne Lamartiniére, who served at the Battle of Crête-à-Pierrot in 1802, and Sanité Belair. Before the revolution, Montou had worked alongside Dessalines as a slave. She was described as intelligent and energetic, and shared a close relationship with Dessalines and the same hatred toward slavery. During the slave rebellion and civil war, she fought as a soldier in active service; on at least one documented occasion, she commanded soldiers in action during battle. In 1804, Dessalines became emperor. When Montou was dying, the emperor demanded the doctor to treat her as he would him, and stated that Toya was his aunt who had shared his feelings since before the revolution. She was given a state funeral with a procession of eight sergeants and Empress Marie-Claire Heureuse ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ #LAKAY#WELCOMETOHAITI #HAITIANSBELIKE #1804 #AFRICA #AFRICANBLOOD #WESTINDIES #WESTINDIAN #ISLAND #HAITI #AYITI  #ISLANDLIFE #carribean #CARIBBEAN  #LAKAY #CARRIBEAN #CARIBBEAN #HAITIANSBELIKE #AYITI #FIRSTBLACKREPUBLIC #SOUPJOUMOU #BLACKREPUBLIC #DUTTYBOUKMAN #BOISCAIMAN #HAPPYNEWYEAR #HAITIANAFFIRMATION #HAITIANINDEPENDENCE #HAITIANREVOLUTION

From @welcome_to_haiti - Toussaint Louverture 📷 of @jimmyjeanlouis as #TOUSSAINTLOUVERTURE François-Dominique Toussaint (20 May 1743 – 7 April 1803), also known as Toussaint L'Ouverture or Toussaint Bréda, was the best-known leader of the Haitian Revolution. His military and political acumen saved the gains of the first Black insurrection in November 1791. He first fought for the Spanish against the French; then for France against Spain and Great Britain; and finally, for Saint-Domingue against Napoleonic France. He then helped transform the insurgency into a revolutionary movement, which by 1800 had turned Saint-Domingue, the most prosperous slave colony of the time, into the first free colonial society to have explicitly rejected race as the basis of social ranking.  He died betrayed before the final and most violent stage of the armed conflict. However, his achievements set the grounds for the Black army's absolute victory and for Jean-Jacques Dessalines to declare the sovereign state of Haiti in January 1804. Toussaint's prominent role in the Haitian success over colonialism and slavery had earned him the admiration of friends and detractors alike. Giving thanks to all the ancestors who fought for freedom and liberation!! May your memory and contribution never be forgotten. The Haitian Revolution (1791–1804) was a revolt from enslaved Africans in the French colony of Saint-Domingue, which culminated in the elimination of slavery there and the founding of the Republic of Haiti. Jean-Jacques Dessalines (20 September 1758 – 17 October 1806) was a lieutenant to Toussaint Louverture who led the revolution, after Louverture was captured the Haitian revolution continued under Dessalines who defeated the French becoming the first ruler of a independent Haiti under the 1801 constitution. He is considered the founder of Haiti. The Haitian Revolution was the only revolt of enslaved Africans, which led to the founding of a state. Furthermore, it is generally considered the most successful slave rebellion ever to have occurred and as a defining moment in the histories of both Europe and the Americas. The rebellion began with a revolt of enslaved African in August 1791. It ended in November 1803 with the French defeat at the battle of Vertières. Haiti became an independent country on January 1, 1804. #haiti #haitianindependence #haitian #revolution #freedom #africanspirituality #revolutionary #revolt #indepenceday #independence https://www.instagram.com/p/BsGV3NHH5Dg/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ygne5ggpsu8j

✊🏿💪🏿🇭🇹🎨 #ArtIsAWeapon Happy #HaitianIndependenceDay #Art by @akomicsart (reposted) - I am #AdbarayaToya, also known as #VictoriaMontou. On Jan. 1, 1804, Haiti declared its independence from France and established the first post-colonial free Black nation. No other country before or since has obtained its freedom from imperialist rule by enslaved people who bravely and successfully rebelled. ____________________ Reposted from @remezcla Originally from the Kingdom of #Dahomey (currently #Benin), Adbaraya Toya was a #midwife, a #warrior of the “Dahomey Amazons” a #healer and one of the women who sat on Dahomey’s council. She was abducted and enslaved in Saint-Domingue (modern-day Haiti), where she was renamed Victoria Montou. She secretly began training others in the art of war, including one of Haiti’s founding fathers, #JeanJacquesDessalines. She taught him and many others how to fight in hand-to-hand combat and how to wield a knife. She commanded her own brigade in the Haitian war of independence. To honor her contributions, she was honored with a state funeral in 1805. https://remezcla.com/lists/culture/herstory-haitian-women-to-celebrate/ #Haiti #HaitianHistory #HaitianIndependence #SlaveRevolt #Rebellion #sheroesofthehaitianrevolution #akomicsart #thorobredbooks #BayyinahBello #akomicsartiamseries #dahomeyamazons #dahomeywarriors #theliberators #TraScapades #ArtIsAWeapon https://www.instagram.com/p/B6y7ZejgBxZ/?igshid=vjm2i128mqor

@Regranned from @welcome_to_haiti - Suzanne Bélair, called Sanité Bélair, (1781 – 5 October 1802), was a Haitian Freedom fighter and revolutionary, lieutenant in the army of Toussaint Louverture. Born an affranchi in Verrettes, she married Brigade commander and later General Charles Bélair in 1796. She was an active participant in the Haitian Revolution, became a sergeant and later a lieutenant during the conflict with French troops of the Saint-Domingue expedition. Chased by Faustin Répussard's column of the French army, the Belairs took refuge in the #Artibonite department. Répussard launched a surprise attack on Corail-Mirrault, and captured Sanité Bélair. Her husband turned himself over as well to avoid being separated from her. Both sentenced to death, her spouse was to be executed by fire squad and she by decapitation because of her sex. She watched Bélair's execution, where he calmly asked her to die bravely, and went to her own execution as calm as he, refusing to wear a blindfold. she was featured on the 10 gourd banknote of the Haitian gourde for the "Bicentennial of Haiti" Source :Wiki Famn vanyan ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ #LAKAY#WELCOMETOHAITI #HAITIANSBELIKE #1804 #AFRICA #AFRICANBLOOD #WESTINDIES #WESTINDIAN #ISLAND #HAITI #AYITI  #ISLANDLIFE #carribean #CARIBBEAN  #LAKAY #CARRIBEAN #CARIBBEAN #HAITIANSBELIKE #AYITI #FIRSTBLACKREPUBLIC #SOUPJOUMOU #BLACKREPUBLIC #DUTTYBOUKMAN #BOISCAIMAN #HAPPYNEWYEAR #HAITIANAFFIRMATION #HAITIANINDEPENDENCE #HAITIANREVOLUTION
