I really wasn't going to include the west end version of Hadestown in my dramatic analysis/criticism/comparative essay or whatever the fuck this autism project is, but now I couldn't imagine excluding it? I really need to start making more informed decisions

If there are a million Reeve Carney as Orpheus fans in the world, I am one of them. If there are only two Reeve Carney as Orpheus fans in the world, I am one of them (Eva Noblezada is the other). If there are no Reeve Carney as Orpheus fans in the world, Eva Noblezada and I are dead 😔
#hadestown#hadestown obc#reeve carney#eva noblezada#seriously im sick and fucking tired of the reeve carney hate on tiktok#'jordan fisher is the only orpheus that matters' 'jordan fisher shouldve originated orpheus on bway'#'they should replace the obc recording with jordan fisher' 'jordan fisher was the best thing to ever happen to hadestown'#shut up!!!!!!!#i adore jordan fisher but you are missing the point of theatre and hating on reeve in the process!!!!!#you can have a favorite but that doesnt mean the actors who are not your favorite shouldnt exist in that role!!!!!#but also your favorite is wrong!!!!#reeve carney brought more autistic swag to orpheus than anyone could possibly recreate!!!#he was naive he was soft spoken he was unaware of social expectations!!!!!#jordan fisher has such a raw powerful voice and thats not what orpheus needs!!!!! hes just a lil guy!!!!#hes just a lil guy who accidentally had a battle of the bands with the devil and won#because he has nothing in his brain except sing and love his girlfriend!!!!!#i love jordan fisher in everything ive ever seen him in and i adore his voice but please stop putting other actors down#im not a huge fan of the way jonjon briones plays hermes but im not out here talking shit about him!!@#or saying he should never have had the part in the first place#(btw i was joking about the 'your favorite is wrong' thing because - again - literally defeats the point of theatre)#please find ways to say that jordan fisher is your favorite without putting reeve carney down#and also please give reeve carney a chance and dont dismiss him just because he is less conventionally attractive#and hip in popular media and on social media#please give the role a chance for what it is and not just which actor you already like#i was pissed when i first found out they were taking damon daunno out for the obc and adding reeve#the only thing id ever seen or heard him in at that point was the live action rocky horror with laverne cox#and he was fucking riffraff#i was mad!!! i didnt think he could do it!!! but i love the show and i gave him a chance and now hes my all time favorite#between both touring casts ive seen and the pre bway cast recording and jordan fisher#just please stop being mean and give him a chance

I'm sure it has been said a million times already (it's a sad tale, but we post it anyways) but heartbroken the new live London recording of Hadestown cuts so much, especially from act two.

There’s something to be said about listening to the full Hadestown album on repeat
Something about themes, something about motifs, something about knowing how how it ends and still begin to sing it again like it might turn out this time

I love sung through shows and the shift into a new song is one of my favorite things. I tried to pick the ones that actually transitioned into each other (ie didn't have a definitive button at the end or dialogue), apologies if I missed any.

Was listening to one of the best soundtracks of all time (Hadestown Original Cast Recording, not OBC idk how much the song changed for Broadway) and realized that Wait For Me is so insanely perfect for Jack after the events of Dance with the Swan?
He would obviously be the Orpheus in this situation (no clue who would be the Hermes, though). Just look at these lyrics
Tumblr media
“She called your name before she left, but I guess you weren’t listening.”
Gee, why does that sound familiar? Oh, right!
Tumblr media
That’s such a perfect parallel!
Tumblr media
Do I think it’s funny that Jack’s name is literally in the song? Yes. Yes, I do.
Tumblr media
I picture this as what Eternyx (or wherever they’re headed on that boat) becomes when Night Swan has the Just Dancers under her control, and navigating it would be insanely dangerous for anyone, but especially for Jack.
Tumblr media
And of course, the chorus of the song. This is pretty self-explanatory, I think. I imagine Jack would have had a similar thought when he saw what happened to his friends.

Everyone is losing their shit over this version let me (a performer and musician) tell you why it's so powerful.
This analysis starts with the Original Broadway Cast Recording
This version is beautiful and it's the one we all know. But the London cast seems to hit so much harder.
Why?
Well it's a simple difference of: the original recording was recorded in a studio and polished, likely with many takes to get it perfect. And the London Cast version was recorded live from a performance.
No matter what it is watch/listening to a raw live performance of a song will be more powerful.
A live performer thrives with an audience, being alone or only beside cast mates in a recording studio, one can still sing beautifully. But being in front of an audience changes the way one performs.
TLDR:
The Irish Orpheus' "Wait for Me" hits so much harder bc it's a recording of him performing in front of a live audience.

Hadestown was beautiful and gorgeous and everything i had dreamed off and Tiago was on for Orpheus and my GOD if he wasn't the best Orpheus like.... big smiles, big gestures, naive which makes the breaking even worse to witness, and just overall adorable. After Hades and Persephone's dance he was like swinging his arms around and then when Eurydice says "you finished your song" he put his arms up and I DID!!! And he was so smiley and happy and aaaaaa
BUT there were a lot of understudies on and only 3 workers instead of 5 and I desperately want to know what happened to half this cast lol

The way Orpheus sings "see how he labors beneath that load" in Epic Ill in the live recording of Hadestown is everything to me.

What has become of the heart of that man
Now that the man is king
What has become of the heart of that man
Now that he has everything?
The more he has
The more he holds
The greater the weight of the world on his shoulders
See how he labors beneath that load
