Yandere Royal Gay AU pt 8
Part 7 is here. Check out my MASTERLIST for more.
You didn't want to open your eyes.
You had woken up a while ago and realised you were back home when you heard your father's voice. He was singing to you, more humming than actually saying the words but... you recognised the lullaby. It was something he used to hum to you when you were sick or couldn't sleep as a child.
It was incredibly personal, one of the few memories that you cherished with him.
So why did he have to do it in front of Keigo?
It took every fibre in your being to not get up and strangle him while pulling his eyeballs out.
"You have a soothing voice." Keigo whispered from your side, brushing your hair with his hand, while you clawed the sheets from under the covers.
Dabi smiled, feeling perfectly content now that he had his most precious treasures in front of him, safe and sound. "How are you feeling now? Do your wings still hurt?"
"Not as much. Emperor Kai's healers did their magic. I'll be flying again in no time." Keigo sighed as he looked at you. "Its her I'm more worried about, Dabi."
"Why? Kai already healed any minor injuries she had-"
"Physically, yes, she's healed. But what about mentally?"
"What about it?" Dabi pushed, eyes narrowing. Keigo sat up straighter. "Dabi, regardless of what AFO did or that you saved her-" "we saved her, Keigo." "- right. Regardless, she... she will be affected by all of it. That was her mother's homeland, her people, and AFO was her grandfather. You and I both know Y/n isnt one to just- just hate anyone or hold grudges. She'll be crushed by AFO's death, or all those villagers deaths. I mean, you did see how she reacted to Tomura's death-"
"That's enough." Dabi snapped, voice barely containing the rage he felt. "You will never speak of those names again, Keigo. What happened to them, what I did to them- it was a kindness! A mercy compared to the punishment that they deserved and would've gotten if it weren't for Y/n being there."
"But Y/n-"
"We will take care of Y/n. You and me, together will help her forget about those traitorous bastards and everything will return to normal." Dabi closed his eyes, pausing before opening them again. "We are all that she needs, Keigo. Now more than ever."
The blonde smiled softly before moving off the bed and over to Dabi, the latter gently pulling the blonde into his lap, hands cautiously settling on the base of his wings.
"I never doubt you, Dabi." Keigo whispered as he kissed him. "I trust you with my life, and Y/n's." Dabi smiled against his lips. He adored how protective Keigo was over you, and he's the only one who is allowed to be possessive over you.
"I know, love." Dabi murmured, tightening his grip on the blonde's hips when he tried to move. "Where are you going?"
"Gonna make something for Y/n to eat."
"The kitchen staff-"
"-will mess it up,I just know it. Just let me handle this Dabi. I'll be back soon, hm?"
Dabi sighed. "Dont take too long." He watched him leave before turning back towards you, taking your hand in his as he resumed humming the lullaby.
He traced his thumb over your wrists, staring at it absentmindedly as his mind went back to the events of the battlefield, heart swelling up with joy at his victory over AFO and his entire kingdom. His lips quirked up slightly as he recalled the screams of the people burning.
They deserved it.
They deserved it and so much more for what they did to you, for taking away his one and only child and torturing you in god knows what horrendous way they came up with.
Isn't that why you looked so miserable and devastated at the battlefield?
Dabi's eyes flicked to your face, widening when they met your own.
You were awake.
"Y/n!" Dabi squeezed your hand before getting up to sit on your bed. Taking your face in his hands as he looked at you with concern. "I- are you okay? How are you feeling now?"
Hollow eyes stared at him, your mouth remained sealed shut as you looked at him. But just before it creeped Dabi, you blinked and then tears started to fall down your face.
Dabi immediately (but gently) pulled you to his chest, practically sitting you in his lap like a child, arms wrapping themselves around you like a warm cocoon to calm you down as he continued to look down at you with even more worry when great sobs racked your body.
"Y/n? Oh baby- its okay, its okay! You're fine." He pulled your face away from his chest, cradling your face in his hands as his thumbs wiped away the tears from your cheeks. "No one is mad at you. I am not mad at you, more concerned is all. When you went missing, I- I thought you were dead. I thought you were dead and it hurt, Y/n. It hurt me that you died hating your father, and I never want that. I just-" Dabi closes his eyes and sighs before opening them. "I dont blame you for your actions. You ran away because of me, and while that may not have been the wisest decision, I understand and... I forgive you. You were misled by people you trusted, and they paid for their actions. Now, I want us to start anew again. Put everything behind us and become a happy family again. You, me and Keigo, together against the world, hm? How does that sound?" You all but wailed louder at the mention of that whore's name, but Dabi just percieved it as you being overwhelmed and pulled you tighter against his chest.
With one hand rubbing circles in your back while the other was carded in your hair, Dabi kissed your temple, smiling softly as you cried hard into him.
"Its okay. Let it all out, Y/n. I've got you, baby. I've got you."
And I'm never letting go. Ever.
-
Dabi left once you'd calmed down, saying that he was going to inform Keigo that you were finally awake. You of course, would rather gouge out your eyes than meet that murderer, but that idea was thrown out the window when your nanny knocked on your door, Inko looking visibly surprised to see you awake.
She all but rushed over to hug you, tears falling from her eyes as she pulled away from you suddenly, bowing her head as she apologised for touching you. You smiled sadly before opening up your arms, and Inko hugged you again. She was allowed to drop royal protocol, the woman had practically raised you.
A few minutes later and you heard Keigo and Dabi walking in the hallway. You pulled away from Inko and told her to tell them that you were taking a bath.
"Please! Just tell them you drew me a bath, I- I-" Inko didn't need to be told twice as she ushered you towards the bathroom and quickly shut the door behind her, right in time for Dabi and Keigo to barge in.
"Where is she?! Where's Y/n?" Keigo asked, whipping his around for you, as if you'd be hiding somewhere. Inko bowed, greeting the two men, raising her head only to see Keigo looking at her impatiently and Dabi raising a brow at her.
"Well?"
"The princess is taking a bath, your Majesty. I had recommended it to help heal her wounds better-" She began lying, but Dabi cut her off.
"Let me know when she's ready. Dress her in soft clothes, I want her to be comfortable. You will take care of it, hm?" Dabi ordered, and Inko bowed her head in obedience.
"Of course, your Majesty."
"Come on, Keigo. She'll be back soon. Why don't you continue making her lunch? We'll all eat here." Dabi suggested, his hand on Keigo's back guiding him out of the room.
You sighed as you heard them leave, closing your eyes as it dawned that you had escaped facing Keigo but only momentarily.
Inko entered the bath, smiling apologetically as she knew that you didn't like Keigo.
"I'll draw you a bath, princess. Why don't you wait on the bed, hm?" You nodded, going to sit on your bed just as someone else knocked on the door.
You nodded at Inko and she opened the door to see who it was before harshly whispering at someone to leave.
"Who is it?" You asked, standing up. Inko looked back at you apologetically before pushing the door open and revealing-
"Izuku." You whispered. Your childhood best friend was wearing his Knight armour as he beamed brightly at you.
"Princess." He greeted. "May I come in?" He asked only to be whacked on his head by his mom. "Izuku! She's busy and besides, the Princess needs to rest-"
"Its alright, Inko. He can come in." You nodded, as the woman let out a sigh of relief before going back to drawing you the bath.
Izuku walked towards you and you motioned for him to sit down next to you on the bed. "Its been a while." He started. You hummed. "It has. And I'm sorry."
Izuku gave you a quizzical look. "What for?"
"For how I treated you before I left." You looked down at your hands, playing with your fingers. "For snapping at you. That was uncalled for-"
Izuku grabbed your hands, his large rough ones engulfing yours. "You don't have to explain anything to me, Y/n." You shook your head. "I want to." You whispered, as your voice turned wobbly. "I don't want to lose- I cant- T-Tomura-" Izuku pulled you into a hug before your tears could fall. He patted your back and hushed you. "Shh, you won't lose me. I promise, I won't go anywhere."
-
You sat on your bed uncomfortably with Keigo and Dabi in the room. The maids had brought up a small table and chairs with food to your room, since Dabi thought it'd be best to dine here while you rest. You however, can't rest as long as that murderer is in the room.
Sure, Dabi killed your grandfather and killed many of the villagers, but you could see where he was coming from. Your father's reaction was somewhat reasonable since his daughter, his only heir, was kidnapped and he didn't know whether you were being tortured or dead. And you can see it however you want, but deep down you blame Keigo for AFO's death.
You blame him for the villagers deaths.
You blame him for your mother's death.
You blame him for Tomura's death.
"How's your soup?" Dabi asked.
"Its good." You said without looking up from your plate, just like the past 20 minutes. You can't bare to bring yourself to look up at him, unsure if your heart will break more at the sight of him whoring to your dad or if you'll end up raging and kill him on the spot.
"Of course it is. Keigo made it himself for you." Dabi locked eyes with the blonde, who blushed. "Dont you wanna say thank you?"
Here we go again.
There was a audible shift in the energy of the room. The tension could be cut with a knife, as Dabi once again forced you to interact with Keigo.
Keigo leaned towards the king. "Dabi, I don't think that's necessary-"
"Thank you." You said, finally looking up and directly at Keigo, a small courteous smile on your lips. "It tastes delicious. Thank you for going out of your way for me."
Keigo's mouth parted in shock, this was- this was the first time you looked at him with genuine respect- talked to him nicely. Even Dabi was surprised at your change in behaviour, he didn't expect you to actually be grateful, maybe spat out a forced thanks with a grimace but not this, not you actually finishing the bowl of soup.
"I- oh, it's no trouble. I'm glad you liked it." Keigo managed to say, looking at Dabi with confusion, but the king only grinned.
He was glad you were coming around, beyond happy that you were going to turn over a new leaf with him.
It's about time.
Just then, a guard came in, apologising for interrupting but requesting the king's attention for an urgent matter.
Dabi left, promising to return soon with letters from Enji and grandma Rei, and his siblings.
Keigo cleared his throat as the two of you were left alone. "Oh, you finished your soup! I'll give you some more- oh, where are you going?" He asked, watching you peel the covers away and get off the bed. "To the bathroom? Let me help you-" He moved to grab your hand but you snatched it away, before continuing to move to the bathroom.
You didn't close the door behind you, perhaps you wanted him to follow you if you fell or something. But when you got on your knees in front of the toilet bowl and locked eyes with him, Keigo knew he wasn't going to like what he was about to see.
In the next second, you had shoved fingers down your throat and gagged until you induced vomiting, emptying your stomach out.
Keigo rushed towards you, eyes wide in horror as he asked why did you do that. But you didn't answer him. Instead, you called out to Inko (who intentionally pushed Keigo away from you when she saw you on the floor, looking faint and out of breath).
"Princess! Are you alright? Should I get the physician?" You shook your head.
"No, just- just had some disgusting soup that made me sick. Could you- could you do me favour and get rid of it? I swear, just the smell of it in my room is making me lurch again." You commented while looking at Keigo.
Inko only nodded as she helped you back in bed before taking out all the food in your room, but not before asking Keigo to leave.
"My apologies, sir, but I think it'd be best to let the princess rest for now." She said, not sounding sorry at all, practically blocking his view of you as she stood in front of him, eyes staring into him boldly.
Had Keigo not been shocked by your actions, he would've had smacked her across the face for such blatant disrespect.
But Keigo left silently. He needed to process what just happened.
-
Two more weeks passed by, and you had received many letters from your loved ones and friends. Your father was still far too paranoid or perhaps it was his possessiveness that didn't allow you to have any visitors. The option of you stepping out of the castle was out of the question, even you knew that. But he could've let your grandparents see you, or even your friends who were actually there with him on the battlefield.
At least uncle Shotou was here. He sat by your side on a chair, while you were in your bed, back propped up against the headboard.
"They're all worried about me." You mumbled as you opened another letter. "I feel bad making them worry over me. Don't you think I should meet them to let them know I'm well?"
Shotou nodded. "I agree with you but your father still hasn't budged from his decision. He says that it's just not safe yet for you to meet people, and that you should still rest until you're better."
"But I am better! Any minor injuries that I sustained have healed ages ago." You whined. "Its just- its frustrating being alone in this castle!"
He tilted his head slightly. "You're not alone, Y/n. You have me, your father, the servants, the knights-"
"You know what I mean." You sighed. "Its okay if he doesn't want me too meet anyone else, but can't I at least visit... mum? I can go with him, or you, or even the guards- I just- I just need to see her! It's been too long."
Shotou heaved a sigh. "I had brought it up to Dabi, but... he said no."
You remained quiet for a few moments, looking down at your lap as your brows furrowed.
"He's mad at me." You mumbled.
Shotou's head shot up. "Y/n?"
You nodded, sniffling a little. "He's mad at me. That's why he won't let me meet anyone. That's why he won't let go see mom. He- he thinks it's my fault that I was with AFO." You bit your lip. "And it is. I did run away from him. But only because I was mad at him. I thought that some time away from each other would heal our problems. But... nothing changed. If anything, we're more far apart than we were before. He- he's punishing me. And people are getting hurt because of that- because of me-"
Shotou cut you off by holding your face and turning you to him. "Y/n, this isn't your fault. None of it is. And your dad, he's not mad at you. He's not punishing you. He's just- its just taking him some time to cope with all of this. You have to see where he's coming from, hm? He lost you- he thought you were dead. And now that he got you back, he's just- he doesn't want anything to hurt you, anyone to take you away from him again." He said, which made you cry even more and Shotou pulled your head to his chest, patting your back as your tears wet his garments.
After Shotou left your room, he went upto Dabi's office, hoping to convince him to let you meet Rei and Enji at least. But before he could knock, he overheard Keigo's moans and he immeadiately turned on his heel and left, hands clenching into fists at the thought of that disgusting whore.
He reached his room and sat on his desk, thinking of what to do to help you. Even if Keigo wanst there, Shotou doubts Dabi would've listened to him. So... if he wasn't going to do something, then maybe Shotou could help you?
You are the princess after all, the next heir to the throne. It is his duty to help you in whatever way possible.
Pulling out a sheet of paper, Shotou grabbed his quill and began writing away.
-
Keigo and Dabi laid in each others arms, Keigo's hand resting on Dabi's bare chest while the latter played with the blonde's hair.
"What's on your mind?" Dabi asked.
Keigo raised his brows and shook his head. "Nothing much."
"You should know better than to lie to your king by now, hm?" Dabi commented before asking again. "Come on, tell me."
Truthfully, Keigo was concerned over his last interaction with you. Why were you so hostile towards him? But earlier, in front of Dabi, you were so nice to him.
Keigo sighed, nuzzling closer to Dabi. "I'm just concerned about Y/n."
Dabi softly smiled. He liked it when Keigo worried over you.
"She'll be fine, Kei. She just needs to adjust to everything. Time heals all wounds." Keigo didn't reply and Dabi could see that he was still thinking about you. When you were gone, Dabi felt like this was the end of the world. He could only imagine the heartbreak Keigo was going through. They both loved you, and now that they had you back, their anxiety didn't go away completely. They still couldn't believe it, that you were still alive and well with them. In fact, the first night after they brought you home, Dabi didn't sleep a wink. No, he kept on checking in on you. Keigo, despite his injuries and heavy medication, was in a similar state.
"Why don't you go and check in on her? It'll put your mind to ease." Dabi offered, sitting up to pour himself some wine. Keigo nodded happily as he pulled away, kissing Dabi's cheek before wrapping a robe around him and scurrying out of the room, the king chuckling at the sight.
Even when you were a kid, Keigo often found himself watching over your sleeping form, something about it made him feel at peace. To see you safe and sound, in arms reach to protect you from any harm that should befall you... perhaps that's exactly what Keigo needed at the moment.
He made his way to your room, the guards at your door knew not to stop him- it was Dabi's orders. Keigo softly knocked on your door, waiting to see if you're still awake. After a few moments of silence, he slowly opened the door and crept inside.
There you were, lying on your side, tucked under the floral covers that reached upto your nose. Your hair sprawled out over the pillow, a few wisps framing your face under the glow of the lantern in the room. Your lips were slightly parted and Keigo smiled at how you looked the same as you did when you were a baby.
He walked closer and brushed the hair out of your face, and leaned down to kiss your forehead as his hands pulled the covers closer to you. He turned to leave but halted when he heard a whimper.
He looked at your face, which was now scrunched up as if in pain. Before he could do anything, you started mumbling frantically, your head moving side to side, your voice turning loud as your words became audible.
"No! No! Stop, Im sorry- STOP! STOP! STOP! KEIGO STOP-!" Keigo rushed to wake you up from your nightmare, only for your eyes to snap open as you began thrashing in his arms, pushing away from him as you began screaming for help, tears streaming down your face as you backed away so far that you fell off the bed, still shrieking for him to get away, just in time for the Dabi to burst in your room with your guards.
"DAD!" You yelled, your body shaking as he made his way towards you. "HE'S GOING TO KILL ME! HE'S GOING TO KILL ME!" You cried out, pointing at Keigo.
"Y/n, honey, calm down. He's not going to hurt-" Dabi tried to console you, taking your shoulders in his hands but you were inconsolable. He looked at Keigo, and the blonde saw the slightest flicker of doubt- no, accusation; an incriminating look in those cerulean eyes.
"I didn't do anything, Dabi. She was having a nightmare and-" he tried to explain himself, something he didn't think he'd need to do with Dabi.
"HE'LL KILL ME! HE'LL KILL ME! HE'LL KILL ME LIKE HE HE KILLED TOMURA!" You continued rambling on, tears streaking your cheeks, not taking your eyes off Keigo for a moment, as if afraid that he'd strike you at a chance.
Dabi looked at your face, concern arising at the raw fear in your eyes. Its only when a trail of crimson left your nose and your chest began heaving heavily did Dabi finally say the words.
"Keigo, leave."
The blonde took a step closer towards you. "No Dabi, I can help-"
Dabi snapped his head back at him and with unbridled rage in his face, he yelled at him.
"I'M ORDERING YOU TO LEAVE! NOW!"
Keigo's heart shattered at the venomous tone, and his face showed it. But right now, Dabi was more concerned about his daughter not having a panic attack or passing out. He could worry about Keigo later, you were the priority now.
You're the priority.
As Keigo left, Dabi picked you up and placed you back in your bed, promising to spend the night by your side. With the way your eyes remained wide open, he was worried you wouldn't sleep. But sleep finally overcame you as you were held by Dabi, your head lying on his warm chest, barely hiding the coy smile as he told the guard to inform Keigo that he won't be returning to bed tonight.
-
The next morning, when you woke up, you were still curled up in Dabi's lap. True to his word, he stayed with you the entire time, and it didn't seem like he slept much.
"How are you feeling now?" He asked, eyes slightly tired from the lack of sleep.
"I'm better, thank you." You whispered, getting off his lap. You looked up at him, brows knitting together as you tried to think of what to say next, or about last night. "I- last night... I-"
He waved you off. "We'll talk after breakfast. I think you're well enough to join us in the dining hall, hm?" You nodded as he got up and walked closer to you, cupping your cheek with one hand as he leaned down to kiss your forehead.
"My precious." He smiled before leaving your room, right in time for Inko to come in to help you get ready for breakfast.
Dabi returned to his room where he wasn't surprised to see Keigo pacing around, worriedly. From the dark circles and red eyes, Dabi figured the blonde hadn't slept.
"Dabi, I am so sorry-" He started but was cut off by Dabi wrapping his arms around him.
"Its okay. Not your fault." He sighed, pulling away to kiss Keigo on the lips. But the blonde wanted to still clarify himself.
"I didn't do anything, Dabi- she just- she had a nightmare and I was just trying to he'll her-"
"I know, Keigo. I know." Dabi stared into his scared eyes and his gaze softened. "But you need to understand that when I tell you to do something, you do it without question. Without a second thought. Y/n is- she's still a child, as much as she pretends to be a grown up, deep down all of these events have scarred her in way or another. We have to give her time and we have to help her, hm?"
Keigo only nodded before resting his head on Dabi's chest, wanting to be comforted as well.
"Let's eat, hm?"
-
The three of you sat on the dining table, eating in awkward silence. You and Keigo didn't meet each other's eyes, Dabi kept looking between you two, hoping one of you would finally start talking.
He cleared his throat.
"I'm sorry-!" You and Keigo said together. You spoke again before he could (as you should, according to royal protocol. But everyone knows the King's favourite isn't one to follow rules.)
"I am sorry, for how I behaved last night, Keigo. I- I was having a nightmare and-" you sighed. "-Its not your fault. I reacted very poorly and I shouldn't have pushed you away or been afraid of you, I just- I just-" Dabi grabbed your hand and squeezed it affirmatively when he saw remorse in your eyes.
"Its okay, really. I didn't mind it, and I know it wasn't your fault either. But I have to ask... was the nightmare about me?" Keigo asked cautiously.
You looked up at him before looking away, eyes slowly welling up with tears. That was enough of an answer for him and Keigo could feel his heart drop at the thought of you being afraid of him.
"I am- I think I just need- I need some time to get used to you again..." you say.
Dabi hummed, giving a quick glance to Keigo who nodded begrudgingly as well.
"Well, now that this topic is over, I was thinking of sharing some good news." Dabi said, making the two look at him. "Since you seem to be in good health, I was thinking you could visit your mother. What do you think?"
"Really?" You whispered in disbelief.
Dabi nodded. "Of course, I'd be accompanying. Don't want you fainting or-" you cut him off by a big hug and loads of "thank you's".
He let you be excused so that you could get ready while Keigo watched him with a slightly hurt expression in his eyes.
"So... I shouldn't come with you two?" He asked in a low tone.
Dabi met his eyes and held his gaze before softening them. "I think some space between you both would benefit for her. After last night, I don't think she's strong mentally, Keigo. Her mother is a sensitive topic as it is... I can't risk her having another episode like last night."
Keigo stared at his plate before nodding, not meeting his eyes. "I understand. E-excuse me." He left the room.
Dabi knew being apart from you was the last thing Keigo ever wanted but... he could make him understand later. For now, Dabi needs to focus on you.
-
"Thank you." You said to your father who was behind you, holding the reins of his horse you rode on together. He insisted on sharing one ride, and you felt closer to him while he felt content now that you were in his arms, safe and secure.
"What for?" Dabi asked.
"Everything." You looked down at your hands and then ahead at the road. "For going with me to see mom. And for taking care of her grave. For last night, when you held me."
Dabi smiled and kissed the top of your head.
Soon you two had reached the castle and were getting off the horse when Shotou came out beaming.
"Someone is waiting for you-"
"Y/N!" Rei yelled as she dropped royal protocol and practically ran down the stairs of the entry door to hug you. "My child!" She began crying into your shoulder as her arms squeezed your form so hard that it almost began to hurt.
"Honey, you're going to break her." A familiar voice said, making you pull back from Rei.
"Grandpa!" You squealed as the older man caught you when you jumped, spinning you around as you buried your face into his neck, arms barely reaching around his broad shoulders.
"My doll, my little princess." He cooed as he kissed your forehead, his own eyes getting a little misty.
"Enji, stop hogging her." Rei smacked his arm.
He frowned. "Honey, I'm not hogging her-"
"Yes, you are!" Someone yelled as they yanked you out of his arms and into their own. "I've missed you so much, my baby!" She cried as she rubbed her cheek against yours.
"Hello, Aunt Fuyumi." You chuckled as you patted her arms to let go but she held you tighter. Fortunately, Dabi came to your rescue.
"You're hurting her, Fuyumi." He said as he pulled you away and behind him. Fuyumi gave him a quick bow and "Your Majesty." Before punching his shoulder. "I was worried about you! Would it have killed you to write back to me?!"
"I've been... busy." He replied. "Besides, I needed some alone time with my daughter before you came to hog her."
"I can't help it that she's my favorite neice!" Fuyumi defended.
"I'm your only neice..." you mumbled from behind Dabi. "Also, Where's uncle Natsuo-"
A loud crash was heard, making Dabi immeadiately turn and push you behind him. Of course, speak of the devil and the devil shall-
"I'm here!" Natsuo huffs as he gets off the horse he just crashed into some poor guards (their unconscious bodies are being dragged away).
He walks up the steps and quickly bows to his parents and Dabi before locking eyes with you and manically grinning as he lifts you up in his arms and spins around, making you chortle as you slap his arms to slow down.
"Oh youre a sight for sore eyes, you little brat!" He came to halt and you had to grab his arms to stabilise yourself. He pinched your nose, making you whine. "I'm never letting you go alone now! Gonna take you to battles with me, if I have to. Missed you too much."
You smiled sweetly at him. "I missed you too, uncle."
The Todoroki clan had decided to stay a week or two over at Dabi's castle, much to his dismay. Of course he doesn't like the fact that Enji and the rest of his family will be breathing down your neck, but Shotou convinced him to let them spend time with you here rather than whisking you away to Enji's kingdom where it'll be harder for Dabi to keep an eye on you (and not to mention the trauma he still hasn't recovered from since that was the place he lost you last time).
While you were being coddled and spending some quality time with the Todoroki clan, Keigo was finding ways to stay out of their way. He had initially greeted them when they arrived, but from their cold attitude and death stares, he'd much rather be ignored by them. And it's not like he or Dabi doesn't know how the royal family dislikes Keigo, so Dabi would often leave you with his family while he went to console his lover.
By the end of the week, as much Dabi wouldn't like to admit, you had looked much better and healthier since his family came. You looked happier, brighter. They were all having dinner together in the big dinning hall. Dabi sat at the head of the table, Rei to his right, then you and then Enji because of course your grandparents want you squished between them. Fuyumi, Natsuo and Shotou sat to Dabi's left.
"Baby you need to eat more! I could see your ribs from here." Rei said as she put another serving of food on your plate.
"But I'm full-"
"No, you're not. Now eat those veggies, I don't need your pretty hair falling out." Rei cooed as you begrudgingly followed her orders. She then narrows her eyes at Dabi. "You too Dabi, eat your veggies. Only drinking wine isn't healthy!"
Dabi hummed nonchalantly. "Yes, mom." He said, eyes trained towards the door. He sighed before beckoning a servant, whispering something to him. The servant nodded obediently and left.
"Aww, are you really going to eat veggies? What a good mama's boy you are." Natsuo teased, only to be whacked on the head by Fuyumi.
"Yeah, I'm having them bring more food." Dabi smiled.
A few minutes later, the hall doors opened and in walked-
Concubine Keigo.
The man who had been good at hiding himself for the better part of the week, was now walking towards Dabi. He bowed to him first, before bowing to the rest of the family. Even though his siblings masked their displeasure at seeing Keigo, his parents, especially Rei, made no such efforts.
She threw a nasty look when Dabi had someone bring a chair and seat Keigo next to him.
"You're going to eat with us?" Rei asked, not holding back the disgust in her tone.
"Mother." Dabi warned.
"What?" Rei shrugged, slicing her steak elegantly. "I'm just curious. I thought this was a family dinner."
Dabi's eyes darkened. "He is family." He looked at Keigo before bringing his hand to his lips, kissing it softly. "And if he wasn't before, he will be now."
The table had went dead silent as they all looked at Dabi, anticipating the bomb he was about to drop on them. Somehow, you already knew you were going to dread the news he was about to share.
"We're getting married."
And just like that, the curtain of happiness drops, your world shatters.
"I was going to wait a few more weeks before announcing, but since Y/n had been feeling better and you all came, I decided now would be the best time. I had proposed to Keigo long before Y/n was kidnapped-" you stopped hearing after that, you couldn't even if you tried. Your heart was beating too fast, too loudly for you to hear anything.
Is your father really going to marry Keigo? The man who killed your mother? The man who killed Tomura? Did Dabi even care about you anymore-
"Y/n?" Dabi called. Under the table, Enji held your hand and gave it a squeeze, pulling you out of your thoughts.
You looked at Dabi and Keigo, who were holding hands.
"Congratulations." You smiled. "When's the date?"
Everyone was surprised at your composure, Keigo who was holding his breath finally sighed in relief while Dabi looked proudly at you.
You've really matured.
"Well, we were thinking later this week, since everyone is still here. What do you say, Y/n?" Dabi asks, sipping his wine.
You hummed. "Very wise. Let me know if I could be of any help." The dinner soon ended, and you could feel everyone's eyes on you (except for Dabi and Keigo, they were looking at each other like they wanted to rip their clothes off).
Instead of joining the family in the garden for a walk, you excused yourself and left for your room. And only after you had closed your door did you finally let the tears fall.
How could he do this to you? How could your father marry that murderous skank? Was it to show you up? To teach you a lesson? It couldn't possibly be- because he loves Keigo, could it?
"No." You whispered harshly, as you sat on your bed. If this marriage happens, it'll put Keigo in a much powerful position, and it'll br far harder for you to take him down.
And not to mention, by law, you would have to bow down to him.
Concubines never get to be more superior than legitimate heirs, but since Keigo was already a favourite, and your lack of a quirk makes everyone question your legitimacy as a heir and a ruler, you have no doubt that Dabi will make you kneel to his slut.
Someone knocked on your door. "Come in." You said, fixing yourself.
It was Rei and Enji, concerned looks etched on their faces. Looking at them, you couldn't help the tears that welled up.in your eyes again.
"Oh honey~" Rei cooed with open arms as she hugged you, letting you sniffle into her gown.
"I- I'm sorry-" you tried to say, as you pulled away only for Rei to pull you closer to her. She sat on your bed and positioned herself in a way so that you could lay your head in her lap.
"You don't have to be brave anymore, Y/n." Rei said as she ran her finger through your hair. Your tears slipped down your face as you watched Enji sit on the foot end of your bed, taking your feet in his lap and rubbing your ankles.
"None of this is your fault, Y/n." Rei said. "I still want to go and yell at Dabi for even letting that whore sit with us, let alone marrying him-"
"Rei." Enji warned.
She huffed. "Your grandpa says that wouldn't be wise." She kissed your cheek. "How about you come with us? Hm? I can talk with Dabi and convince him to let you come with us until the wedding is over-"
"No!" You shook your head frantically. The last time you went away, your father proposed to Keigo. Who knows what that blonde will do this time when you leave. Take away all of your mother's belongings? Kick you out? Make Dabi question your legitimacy?
"I- I already told them I'd be here to help them. Besides, I shouldn't be away from my father on this joyous occasion. Really, I'm happy for him- for them." You wiped your tears away as Enji and Rei looked at you with pity. "I just- I just miss mom a little."
They stayed with you the rest of the night.
-
After the announcement to the family, Dabi had announced of his wedding to his kingdom. The news had gotten mixed reactions, they cheered and congratulated Dabi out of fear, while also throwing pitiful looks your way, hushed whispers about "poor princess Y/n". Good thing was that you spent most of your time in your room, so you didn't have to bear the embarrassment much.
You were standing in Dabi's office. He'd called you, and Keigo was there too. You didn't think it would be possible for them to be more closer and show more disgusting displays of affection, but here they are, shamelessly eating each others faces.
"Y/n! How have you been?" Dabi asked as Keigo got off his lap, giving a quick squeeze to his bum (you wanted to burn your eyes with acid).
"I'm well, thank you." You smiled, trying to contain the contents of your gut. "You asked for me?" Might as well come to the topic before they start doing more...stuff.
"Ah yes. Well, since the wedding is approaching, I wanted to ask if you'd like to be the maid of honour?" He said, shuffling through some papers- invites.
"You want me to be your maid of honor-?"
"Mine? No. I have Natsuo. I was asking if you'd like to be Keigo's, since he has no one to walk him down the aisle, Keigo suggested you. And you two are close, so it seems like a good idea, no?" He said in a tone that made it seem more like an order than a question.
How could he ask you that? Has your father lost his mind? Is he that horny to not give a shit about his own daughter?
You looked at Keigo, who was standing there with a chalice, his golden eyes piercing through you, a satisfied smile on his lips.
Of course, he'd convinced Dabi to suggest something as preposterous as this. Perhaps as a revenge for earlier.
"I think it'd be better if someone else stepped in. Perhaps one of the other concubines?" You offered. You'd much rather eat a bag of nails than let his filthy hands hold yours as you walk down the aisle.
"No, no. Keigo isn't close to any of the concubines. Besides, I think it'd show the rest of the world of our united front. Put all the rumours about conflict among you and Keigo to rest." Dabi said, deciding for you.
"Yes, your Majesty." You said, bowing as you left the room.
-
The next day was rehearsal day. The servants were working hard to decorate evey inch of the castle, making sure to prepare for guests from far and away, perhaps because Keigo told them that this was going to be "the biggest wedding of history."
You were standing in the church with Keigo holding your gloved hand. Just because Dabi said you have to walk him down the aisle, doesn't mean you need to touch him. The gloves were only the smallest barrier.
"Thank you for doing this for me." Keigo said as you both walked down the aisle towards Dabi. Every fiber of your being was screaming to rip yourself away from him.
"Anything for my father." Your lips formed into a tight lipped smile.
Ignoring your comment, Keigo asked you something even more cursed. "Have you thought of how you'd address me now that I'm marrying your father?"
Bitch. Skank. Whore. Pig. Murderer. Ostrich. Ass hat. Pile of shit. Slut-
"I have more important affairs to be concerned about." You said, dismissing the topic, but of course Keigo wouldn't let it go.
"Well, I have and I'd prefer if you'd call me dad or papa. Mama is also fine, but spare me the royal titles. I don't care for them and I don't want you to be formal with me. We're family now." Keigo said as you both reached Dabi who took Keigo's hand from yours, both leaning down to kiss your cheeks.
You wonder if his touch would still linger if you placed a hot iron poker.
You were walking towards your room, when you passed by your mother's. Opening the door, you saw Inko was there as well, going through your mother's closet.
"Princess!" She turned around, bowing to you with a gentle smile. "Look what I've found!" She showed you some dresses, your mother's beloved gowns, her tiaras, her jewellery.
"I was thinking that you could wear them on the wedding!" Inko said, as she pulled out a beautiful baby blue gown with jewels and sakura blossoms embroidered on it. "They should be of your size, bit I'm happy to make a few alterations to it if you'd like!"
You smiled as you tried on the gown, it fit you perfectly. "And if you pair it with this tiara and your mother's favourite ring!" She placed the white princess tiara on your head, along with the turquoise ring that had diamonds around it, with a gold band. "Your father gave it to your mother on their wedding night. Your mother adored this ring so much, she often said the turquoise stone reminded her of your father whenever he went away om wars." Of course it did remind her of Dabi, his eyes had the same colour as the stone.
"I'll wear this." You said as you admired yourself in the mirror, happy at how you resembled your mother. "Will you have them polished for me?" Inko nodded as she took the ring and tiara from you.
At least there's something you could look forward to at this awful wedding.
-
Guests had started arriving two days before the wedding. Few had been invited to stay at this castle, while others had rooms arranged for them at the other castles nearby.
You had insisted on at least letting your friends stay at the castle, but Dabi turned you down, saying something about security concerns. But he allowed them to visit you during the day.
"Katsuki!" You giggled as you hugged the barbarian king, who only lifted you up and twirled you around.
"Stop acting like a buffoon. Set her down, she's a princess, not a cat." Momo chided as she fanned herself. Katsuki only huffed as he set you down.
"Empress Yaoryuzu-" you started bowing but she hit the top of your head with her fan lightly.
"Forgetting how you're supposed to address me?" She asked, raising her brow at you. You sighed before giving a peck on her lips.
"Hey! What the heck that?!" Katsuki asked as he pulled you behind him. You placed a hand on his shoulder to calm him. "Katsuki, it's just a traditional greeting in her land."
"Yes, but I don't expect uncultured barbarians to understand what traditions mean." Momo snickered.
"Alright, that's it-"
"Enough!" You yelled at them. "I have bigger matters to handle than to stop you two from fighting like children. So if you insist on bickering, please do it outside of this palace and on your own time. Do I make myself clear?" You glared at them as they finally nodded.
The "matters" that you need to handle are about you making sure that when Keigo marries Dabi, he doesnt get to sign a contract that states all about Keigo's new powers and "governing" opportunities. You need to make sure that Keigo doesn't get more power than needed, that he doesn't get a superior title to you, the legitimate heir, and that he doesn't get to add a clause or two that would benefit him and harm you.
A familiar servant passed by you, gave you a nod. Of course, you had initially thought of finding ways to stop the wedding altogether, so you had a servant bribe some concubines and knights to flirt with Keigo, if only to arouse rumours and better yet, catch him in a compromising position.
But you knew that with the wedding approaching, Keigo would be more cautious than ever, and it's not like Dabi would take off the veil of love off his eyes to even suspect that Keigo is cheating on him.
You sat in the garden after returning from the office, asking your uncle Shotou if the contract for marriage had been drawn up. He told you no, that its still in the works and should be coming in tomorrow evening, and when he asked why you wanted to know, you'd made some excuse about wanting to see whether your father was going to have new stamps made with Keigo's face in it.
He only chuckled, but both of you knew Dabi wouldn't be above doing such an abomination.
"What're you doing here alone, bub?" Dabi asked as he sat down next to you. "Everyone's inside, waiting for you."
You smiled softly. "Just... needed some air. Nothing to worry about."
Dabi hummed as he gazed ahead at the tree line. "I know everything is happening so fast and is hectic, so I haven't had the time to talk to you but-" He looked at you and smiled with soft eyes. "- I want to tell you how proud I am of you. For being so mature, for handling everything with such grace. I know this news wasn't easy for you, but I am grateful that you have accepted Keigo and have chosen to be a part of my happiness."
Chosen? There was never a choice.
You leaned your head on his shoulder. "Of course, dad. I will always love you."
He kissed your forehead. "And I, you."
-
The next day went by blur, mostly because of the guests and servants running rampant. Momo and Katsuki were in the backyard, away from the party, and you only spared a few glances when they began to duel. You couldn't deal with them right now, not when you had to go and read the marriage contract before Keigo could sign it.
You were on your way when you heard Inko arguing loudly with someone. For a sweet lady like her, it's not normal for her to yell at anyone. So, you went to check out the commotion first.
"THIS IS NOT THE JEWELLERY PIECES I SENT FOR YOU TO POLISH!" Inko said furiously, slamming her hands on the table. You peeked at the man she was yelling at, recognising him as the royal jeweller. "WHERE IS PRINCESS Y/N'S RING?!"
"I- um- they-" the man stumbled over his words as you finally let yourself in.
"Your Majesty!" They both bowed, as you waved them off. "What's the matter Inko? Where's my mother's ring?"
She shot a furious glare to the man, who cowered. "That's what I'm trying to find out."
You stepped forward and looked at the man with a calm smile. "Where's my ring? Did something happen to it? Did you lose it?" You asked and you could only imagine Inko's murderous intent if the man said that he did lose it.
"No, princess- I didn't lose it! The ring- the ring it's with- concubine Keigo!" You face never dropped as fast as it did in that moment.
"What? How is this possible?" You interrogated.
"After- after I took your jewellery from Inko, King Dabi had called me in to display all of the royal family's jewels, including yours! When he left the room, he told concubine Keigo to pick anything he'd like to wear in the wedding ceremony, and- well- he picked the late queen's ring, saying that it'd remind him of the King's eyes." He explained helplessly, but you had already left the room, storming up the stairs to take back your ring.
You didn't even have to go to Keigo's Chambers as you found the concubine standing in the hallway, a drunk blush on his cheeks, and wearing something glimmerd in the dim halls-
Your mother's ring.
"Y/n! I've been looking for you! Come, come to papa!"
All sense of logic and manners went out the window as you stormed towards him and slapped him so hard across the face, that he fell.
Keigo hadn't even begun to recover from the shock of being slapped when you began punching him.
"WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE!?" You screamed. "WAS IT NOT ENOUGH FOR YOU TO KILL MY MOTHER, TAKE HER THRONE, MARRY MY FATHER, THAT YOU HAD TO TAKE HER RING AWAY TOO?! THOSE ARE MY THINGS! THEY BELONG TO ME, YOU FUCKING SLUT!" You shrieked as Keigo tried to dodge your hits without hurting you.
His eyes went wide when you wrapped your hands around his throat and began choking him. "I'm going to fucking kill you! I'm going to end this for once and for all!"
"Y/N!" Someone yelled as they ripped you away from Keigo. "HAVE YOU FUCKING LOST IT!?" It was Dabi.
"YES!" You screamed. "I HAVE LOST IT, JUST LIKE YOU HAVE WHEN YOU DECIDED TO MARRY THAT FUCKING WHORE! IN FACT, I HAVE LOST A WHOLE LOT MORE THAN YOU! I HAVE LOST MY MOTHER BECAUSE YOU BROUGHT IN THAT FUCKING BITCH! I HAVE LOST MY GRANDFATHER BECAUSE YOU WERE BUSY SCREWING AROUND WITH THAT WHORE! I HAVE LOST MY ONLY FRIEND, BECAUSE YOUR MURDEROUS LITTLE SLUT DECIDED THAT I DO NOT DESERVE TO HAVE ANY HAPPINESS! AND I HAVE LOST MY MOTHER'S ONLY LEGACY BECAUSE YOUD MUCH RATHER GIVE IT TO YOUR NEW BED WARMER THAN TO ME!"
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Dabi yelled, getting dangerously close to your face. "I WILL NOT TOLERATE ANYMORE INSULT AND DISOBEDIENCE FROM YOU! TOMORROW IS OUR WEDDING-"
"FUCK YOUR WEDDING! EVERYONE KNOWS YOURE GOING TO BE MARRYING A MURDERER AND ID MUCH RATHER KILL MYSELF THAN BE A PART OF THAT SHITSHOW!" Dabi went silent at your words, deathly silent. Then... he chuckled as he looked over his shoulder at Keigo who was already shaking his head, as if to stop him before he does something he regrets.
"Its about time she knows, eh?" Dabi said as he laughed.
"Dabi, dont-" Keigo started, but you cut him off. "Know what?" You spat.
Dabi looked at you, and his eyes held a cruel expression.
"Keigo didn't kill your mother. I did."
You couldn't- couldn't process the words that had left his mouth. So, you made him repeat himself.
"What?" You whispered. Dabi knelt down to your level, leaned closer to you so you could look into his eyes and see he wasn't lying.
"I. Killed. Your Mother." He said slowly, as if talking to a child. "I hated your mother, and the only reason I had been putting up with her for so long was because she was taking care of you. But one day, she thought she could threaten me by saying that she was going to leave me. I told her fine, signed the divorce papers and gave them to her. She wasn't expecting it, so she said she was going to take you with her. Now, that was something I couldn't allow. So, your mother decided to try to hurt me by poisoning you. When I found her plans, I confronted her and told her to either drink that same poison she bad for you or she was to leave tomorrow morning and never see any of us again. She instead chose to kill herself because she believed it'd be far more of a dishonour to return to her home as a divorcee and without child."
Tears slipped down your face. "N-No, you're lying. I saw Keigo-"
"Keigo tried to save her, but I told him no. I made him stop. The very thought of harming you was punishable. She deserved to die, and I had no sympathy for her when she dropped dead in front of me. I even had the antidote, but I chose to watch her die." Dabi said coldly. "All this time, Keigo had been covering up for me. He didn't say a word when rumors started, knly because he didn't want to have people see me as a murderer. He adored you, he's taken care of you, has quietly taken every insult you've ever thrown his way. And this is how you repay him?"
"Only Keigo and I have truly ever loved you. Your own mother wanted to kill you for her own selfish gains." Dabi said harshly as your world finally collapsed around you.
You couldn't say anything, do anything as you tried to make sense of his words, tried to find a way to that would tell you that he's lying. But you couldn't.
"GUARDS!" Dabi called. "Lock the princess in the hightower. Tie her to her bed, make sure she doesn't hurt herself or escape." He said before helping Keigo up. You couldn't protest as the guards dragged you to the hightower, didn't move a muscle as they tied you to your bed. All you could do was look up at the ceiling and cry mutely.
All these years, all this time, you'd been blaming Keigo, when everything that has ever happened to you was your beloved father's fault. The man you loved, the man you looked up to, the man you cherished... he had been the one who killed your mother?
The more you thought over his confession, the more you felt yourself age. By morning, you didn't have energy to even breathe.
The doors opened, you continued to look up at the wall, tears brimming your eyes.
Dabi walked in, and you didn't need to see his face to know he was still mad at you. No, the anger was practically radiating off him.
"You are to get ready and smile as you walk Keigo down the aisle. If you do something stupid, I will have your friends hunted down and killed. Do I make myself clear?" He didn't wait for an answer.
-
"Princess, please, at least eat something." Inko said pushing the slice of bread to your lips, but you didn't part them. Simply looking ahead in the mirror with a blank stare as the maids did your hair and makeup. "Izuku, she hasn't said a word since morning! I'm getting worried."
Izuku nodded and signalled the maids to leave. He turned your head towards to him and smiled warmly at you. "Y/n... princess, what's the matter? Tell me, so I can fix it, hm?"
Some things can never be fixed.
You didn't say anything, only looking at him with that hundred yard stare, and Izuku couldn't help but feel a little spooked.
He helped you walk towards the church where Keigo was already waiting for you. He was dressed in a white fitted gown that was sleeveless and backless, and had a fishtail. The dress itself had body chains made of gold and Ruby and sapphires sewed in an intricate pattern. And his veil? He didn't opt to wear one.
He looked at you and smiled kindly, although you couldn't really tell the difference at this point. "You look beautiful, Y/n." He held out his arm for you. "Ready to walk me down?"
You didn't have the energy or want to link your arm with his. Inko had to help you place your arm around his.
The doors to the church opened and the choir began singing hymns. The guests turned to look at you and Keigo, who was beaming as he looked at the end of the aisle where Dabi stood, a satisfied smile on his own face.
Your body felt weak, too weak and... different. You were dragging your steps, which fortunately no one could tell since they were hidden under your gown. At some point, it felt more like Keigo was walking you than you were walking him.
You weren't smiling at all. No, you still had the blank stare on your face, which luckily few people noticed since everyone was focused on Keigo.
"What's wrong with her?" Momo whispered to Katsuki as they saw your face. "Why does she look so... disturbed?"
"She must've seen your face." Katsuki remarked, although truth be told, he was also very concerned. Something felt off. Very off.
When you reached the end of the aisle, Dabi took Keigo's from you, and as rehearsed, they both kissed your cheek, but not before Dabi whispered-
"You forgot to smile. Behave."
Shotou guided you towards your seat in the front row, where you were sat next to your grandparents.
The officiant began the ceremony, but you couldn't pay attention to his words. All you could focus was on the turquoise ring on Keigo's hand.
"Y/n, are you alright?" Rei asked, a frown on her face. You didn't reply, opting to look at your father now.
Your father, your dad, the man you trusted more than anyone, the man who murdered your mother, who had murdered Tomura, who had murdered AFO, who had-
You couldn't breathe, you felt too warm, too hot, everything was burning inside you.
"You may now kiss the groom!" They locked lips, only breaking apart when someone screamed.
It took you a few seconds to realise that it was you who was screaming, only because-
Your hand was on fire.
By the time Dabi or anyone else reached you, your entire body had been engulfed in wild blue flames. Flames that were so hot and out of control, that neither Dabi or Enji or even Shotou could control them. Rei tried to use her ice, but it evaporated before it even came within 6 feet of you. The flames began spreading, making the guests panic and leave the church.
Shotou was the first one to piece it together. "Its her quirk!" Immeadiately, Enji and Dabi began giving you commands on how to control it, to calm yourself, to listen!
Dabi even tried to approach you, maybe if he were to touch you, you'd listen. But your fire was too hot, and you backed away anytime they tried to come closer, only screaming in agony as you burned yourself.
After 5 minutes, only when you fainted from pain and exhaustion did the flames stop. Your body... the aftermath made it beyond recognisable. Parts of your limbs were burned so badly, you could see the bone, while the rest of your skin had charred and burned well enough to know that no nerves will be working there.
Despite everything, you were still somehow miraculously breathing... barely. Dabi couldn't believe the nightmare he'd just witnessed, but his disbelief could wait as he gathered you in his arms and yelled at Shotou to get a doctor.
Everyone left the church, except for Keigo. He had dropped to his knees and was trying to wrap his around the horrible sight he'd seen. Be was trying to compose himself, trying to lie to himself that this... this was not his fault.
He knew he was wrong.
-
Dabi couldn't peel his eyes away from you, he needed to make sure that your chest rose and fell evenly. The moment it stopped- it wouldn't- but if it did, he needed to be there to resuscitate you.
Emperor Kai was fortunately right outside the church, waiting to be of assistance. It was a good thing he was from the land of healers, he was able to stabilise you.
While Dabi kept his eyes on your burned form, Kai opted to talk with Shotou. "It was her own quirk that brought out those flames, seemingly she got the dominant Todoroki quirk." He commented, glancing your way. "What she didn't inherit was the skin resistance to bare those very flames. She burned herself quite badly, and it doesn't help that the smoke from her own burning has damaged her lungs as well. She's still in a critical condition, I've done all I can. All we can do is wait and watch to see if her body can heal itself."
He also explained to Shotou that since its very rare to get a quirk at your age, that's why you couldn't control it. Kai reasoned that the reason your quirk did develop at that moment was probably because you were under some stress, maybe something had tipped you over emotionally, making your quirk appear so fiercely and harshly.
"Like an outlet, when we cry when we breakdown. She burned herself to release that stress." Kai explained.
Shotulou had walked him out of the room, only after ensuring that no one else was around did he ask that question.
"Her chances of survival... what are they?"
Kai's blank stare didn't give away the type of news he'd give. "Anything is possible, but it all depends on her body's ability to heal itself, her willpower to live. Medically speaking, I've done everything I can. Now, only she can save herself."
Can you save yourself, Y/n?

POV: Aventurine Wants to Tip you (a waiter) but doesn't Bring any Cash
Tumblr media
Aventurine x Reader
Last time, in Fortified Wager Ch. 6...
“Thank you, I really appreciate it.” Smiling gratefully, you extended your hand toward him. For the time being, you decided to play your role as a waiter perfectly— “This is just a little something.” —Or at least, until you saw what he placed on top of your palm. You stared at it, then back at him, then back at it again. Until you were fully sure what it was, your eyeballs threatened to pop out of their sockets. “Wait...!! This is...!!” You shot him a look—or, more precisely, at his collar, which now seemed a bit more plain. Because the sparkling golden collar chain, studded with gleaming indigo gems, was now in your hand. Aventurine smiled as if troubled. “I don’t bring cash with me, so I hope this will do. It’s one of my collections. If you take it to a gold store for appraisal, you should be able to earn a bit of money.” “This, but this is...” You couldn’t comprehend anything, and your palm felt so heavy all of the sudden. He doesn’t bring cash so he gives me THIS instead—?! Briefly, you glanced at the pile of metal suitcases behind him. Granted, if he gave you any of those money—Big Baddie’s money—you’d absolutely refuse. Otherwise, how were you supposed to face Teo and the twins? Regardless, on its own, it was still an issue!! You had to return this somehow!! “—As expected, this is still too cheap, isn't it?” Despite how arrogant the question might sound, his tone was earnest. There was even a hint of innocence in it. Heck, he even seemed guilty for some reason. Then, Aventurine grabbed the lozenge-cut emerald studded on the fabric of his chest. He ripped it off so carelessly that he tore the front of his uniform as well. As a result, his already open chest became even more exposed. After that, he placed the emerald on top of your palm, just like that. “WOOOW!!!” “OMG!!!” Screams erupted all around you, mostly from women, as camera flashes rapidly went off. Aventurine’s fans. They were watching. What just happened...? Meanwhile, you could only sit there dumbly as your logic went haywire. W-why is he doing this? Is it because I refused his black card? So, now he thinks I accept payment in GOLD?! Also, also, because he thinks the payment is lacking, he adds ANOTHER gemstone on top of it? Then, Aventurine started to explain while staring intently at your face. “This is the most precious item on my person right now.” M-most precious...? Aventurine added, as if he were aware he was making a mistake. “I can also throw in my ring.” As he said that, he began reaching for the sapphire ring on his right index finger. Isn’t this just robbery in broad daylight?! If you didn’t put a stop to this, would he strip himself naked?! Moreover, why did he look so earnest the whole time?! He kept glancing at your expression, as if the world would end if you didn’t get paid enough!! You felt so guilty! It felt as if you’d forced a gorgeous peacock to pluck off its own feathers until you were satisfied!

Brunch
Summary: Another, better emotionally equipped male would probably just ask Tav out. Like on an actual proper date at a nice venue rather than sticking to their monthly meeting for brunch as a pathetic excuse for spending time with her. But that was the crux of the problem. Astarion had absolutely zero clue as to how to be in a relationship.

“Sorry, I’m late,” Tav stumbled gracelessly into the cafĂ©, her cheeks flushed from the heat.
“Quite alright, darling. I have already ordered,” Astarion replied, his eyes sweeping over her in appreciation.
Tav, being herself, misjudged his look and self-consciously pulled on the front of her dress, unsuccessfully trying to get it to unstick from her clammy skin. Everyone was suffering from the heatwave, and they looked it, except Astarion, of course. He, unlike Tav, looked as cool as a freaking cucumber. Silver curls falling just so, his white shirt fresh, sleeves rolled up to bare his forearms.
“I’m just going to go and splash some water on my face, it’s boiling hot outside today. I don’t know how you can bear it. Here, hold my bag.”
She thrust her tote into his hands and walked off in the direction of the bathroom. Astarion wasted no time in rummaging through it because really, what else did she expect? If she didn’t want him to snoop, she shouldn’t have handed him her things and allowed for him to have ample time alone with said things.
Tav was quick to come back, she didn’t even bother taking her bag back from him when she sat down. Sweet, trusting thing that she was.
“How you’ve been?” she asked and reached for her glass of water.
“Good. Won the case, quite predictably. The other guy’s lawyer was completely out of his depth.”
Astarion didn’t even look up from his phone as he said that. Tav wasn’t even annoyed. He’s been like this as long as she’s known him. For all intents and purposes, he appeared to be disinterested and careless, but actually Astarion noticed much more about others than he ever let on and could even be quite sweet, on a very, very rare occasion.
She was glad that their friendship survived over the years, even if they only met up for brunch once a month. She would like to see more of him, but with how busy Astarion was, it was frankly quite a miracle that he had deemed her important enough to meet up with any regularity.
Astarion and brunch, who would have thought that he would even entertain the thought of something so mundane?
When Tav first met Astarion all those years ago, they were all dirt-poor students, roommates trying to get by. Actually, she was still eyeballs-deep in student debt, unlike Mr. Big Shot lawyer, who was doing very well for himself evidentially.
“How about you, dearest? Anything exciting happen lately?” Astarion questioned.
Tav knew what he was alluding to and was quite prepared to lie through her teeth. Because her latest attempt at a relationship was not going well, but she would never admit it to Astarion. She didn’t need his ‘I-told-you-so’ smirk.
“Good, good.”
Astarion scoffed and rolled his eyes at her woefully inadequate attempt at lying. And to him, out of all people. He did not buy it. Because he knew exactly what Tav looked like when she was actually excited about someone.
“Thought as much. That’s why I went ahead and dumped him for you.”
“Excuse me?!”
She noticed that the phone in his hands was not actually his.
“You cheeky bugger, I can’t believe you swiped my phone and managed to unlock it! And who gave you the right to end my relationship, hm?”
“Tav, two pity fucks because for some reason you were feeling charitable do not count as a relationship. I did you a favour.”
“You’re the one to talk. You’ve slept with tons of people for much less than puppy dog eyes!” she shot back.
“If you are referring to the time Gale and I got shitfaced and got it on in the public garden, let me assure you, the stars that night were beautiful. It was a magical, unforgettable evening.”
“Sure it was,” she laughed and grabbed her phone.
She couldn’t stay mad at him for long and he knew it. Besides, he was right. She wasn’t that into her now ex. She only went out with him because he kept asking and she thought that it wouldn’t hurt to give it a go and make it work. Because, truth be told, it’s been a long, long, long while since she’s been on a date, so she thought that a nice dinner with a conventionally nice, smart, attractive person was not a bad thing for her.
Their order arrived. Full breakfast and coffee for Tav, just black coffee for Astarion. He sipped it slowly, enjoying the way Tav dug into her food with gusto.
“Mmm
this is awesome. Sure you’re not having any?”
“Food? Here? You’ve got to be kidding me,” he grimaced. Even the coffee was foul. He could only imagine what the food was like.
“Yes, I know, I know. Your taste is way to refined to dine on something so greasy and disgusting.”
“Yes, because some of us actually have class.”
“I would throw my bacon at you, but it would be a waste of good food. Consider yourself lucky that this is delicious.”
Her attention back on her food, Astarion was free to look at her at his leisure. He knew Tav hated summer, she was no good with the heat. But he quite liked seeing her all sun-kissed, new freckles dotting her skin, hair swept up to bare her beautiful neck.
Astarion would never admit it even if he was threatened with decapitation, but he liked talking to her, watching her. Tav was probably the only person he actually enjoyed spending time with nowadays, but it was not always so.
Astarion was not very fond of Tav when they first met. Actually, that was an understatement. She annoyed him constantly, especially when she was trying to be friendly and welcoming. He could not understand what her deal was. In his experience, people were never nice just for the sake of it. There were always strings attached. So, her doing the whole sweet girl-next-door act left him entirely unimpressed and irritated. If only he could afford the rent, he would not even bother with roommates. As things were, he had to put up with two.
Except over the years he noticed that her kindness was not reserved to the few that she could possibly gain something from. Tav was helpful, thoughtful and empathic towards everyone, which immediately drew people to her. He suddenly found himself a part of a friendship group which gravitated towards Tav. Them liking her was definitely the only thing they initially had in common.
Whilst Astarion enthusiastically threw himself into his studies during the day and even more enthusiastically enjoyed recreational activities with different partners after hours, he gradually came to appreciate her and was glad that Tav became something of a constant in his life. She was a clueless, naĂŻve, sweet fool, but she was his fool. Not that she was stupid, she was quite intelligent, but rather too wide-eyed and hopeful for this world. People like that did not go far and Astarion was planning on going very far and making the most of every opportunity, no matter the cost.
At one point, sometime between cramming for his finals and helping her study for hers, Astarion toyed with the idea of sleeping with Tav. It wasn’t the first time he thought of it. Over the years, he entertained the idea in passing on several occasions with the level of enthusiasm one has when selecting a sandwich for lunch. That is, the same lukewarm interest that most of his conquests would receive. But over the years, Tav wormed her way into his heart. She was not just an annoyance, not just a roommate. They became friends, even if Tav was the one doing all the heavy lifting when it came to maintaining the said friendship. She was just always there and Astarion was very much taking her presence in his life for granted.
However, the realization that their studies and therefore time together would soon be over made the elf see Tav in a different light for the first time. And so he wondered, if she wasn’t just a roommate, just a friend
Whatever in the world could she be?
If anything, Tav was quite beautiful. Not staggeringly gorgeous, like some of his ex-lovers, but very pretty in her own way. Astarion was sure that if they had sex, it would be a fantastic experience for both of them. Especially for Tav. She would actually get an experienced lover unselfishly fulfilling her needs for once. But then he thought of something that he cared squat about when it came to others and very much when it came to her.
Tav’s feelings.
She wasn’t a prude, but she didn’t just sleep around for the sake of it. She would probably start reflecting on what it meant for their friendship, worry that it was going to screw everything up. And that was why Astarion didn’t go through with it. Although he was really tempted.
Predictably, they drifted apart after graduation. Predictably, it was his fault. He was the one who constantly cancelled plans and didn’t turn up when she invited him and others to outings. Tav went on to get her teaching certification and he continued on his path of becoming a lawyer. He worked hard and partied harder. His life was a kaleidoscope of faces he couldn’t remember, except those that he regularly spent time with for work.
It was fun, great fun, such great fun, he kept telling himself. It was exactly what he wanted. To take the big city by storm and make it his. To get away from his past, from the memory of scrimping and saving, living in borderline poverty as a child. Feeling helpless as his mother worked every waking moment to provide for his future, them constantly worrying about making ends meet. That was why he made damn sure that no one knew anything of his past. And that meant detaching himself from everyone who knew him before he became Astarion AncunĂn the successful lawyer, who was now well on his way to getting a promotion and yet another pay rise.
A little under a decade passed. Astarion rarely gave Tav or any of his former friends much thought. Then, one balmy summer afternoon he saw her in the busy city street, surprisingly talking to Halsin, the environmental lawyer he went up against a few times, out of all people. Astarion felt as if someone sucker punched him. Stunned, Astarion found himself stopping abruptly, not paying attention to people bumping into him. Tav was wearing a pretty sundress that bared her delicate collarbones and shoulders, the light fabric whispering against her skin, her unbound hair framing her face. And then she laughed at something Halsin said, a genuine, full laugh, and smacked his biceps playfully. Astarion felt a wave of something that he could not quite recognise. Another, better emotionally equipped person, would recognise the feeling as longing. To Astarion it was just an unpleasant, hollow feeling that he was quite unfamiliar with.
Whatever it was, it compelled him to cross the street and start walking in her direction. Tav was just turning around when she collided with Astarion, which may or may not have been on purpose on his part.
“Ouch, sorry. I wasn’t- Astarion?”
He inwardly preened that she recognised him immediately. Clearly, he was just that unforgettable.
“Hello, darling,” he practically purred, steadying her gently.
“Wow, it’s been years! Fancy bumping into you like that, literally,” Tav chuckled, feeling quite drab next to him. “Well, I would love to catch up, but you probably have some place to be, all dressed up like that.”
Ah, that was true. He did have some place to be. He always had some important meeting, or trial, or party to go to. But that meant letting her go and that was definitely unacceptable.
“Actually, I am quite free this afternoon. How about getting some brunch?”
“Brunch? Really? Didn’t think you’d be the type, Ancunín,” she teased him a warm smile. “But sure, why not.”
He immediately regretted suggesting brunch, out of all things. But he was never very good coming up with something when put on the spot. And yes, brunch was something boring married couples and the elderly enjoyed, but there they were, walking down the busy street and into the nearest café.
And that was how it became their monthly thing. Meeting up for brunch on Sundays.
Another male, who was better versed at recognizing his own feelings, would have probably just asked Tav out by now. Like on an actual proper date at a nice venue rather than sticking to their monthly meeting as a pathetic excuse for spending time with her. But that was the crux of the problem. Astarion may have had a wealth of knowledge when it came to casual flings and friendly fucks, but he had absolutely zero clue as to how to be in a relationship.
And by gods he wanted to! It was embarrassing how much he wanted to. He wanted to wake up next to her every day, to have her move in with him, to have Tav around constantly, give her presents, see her face light up beautifully, whisper sweet nothings into her ear as they got lost in each other. You know, all that sappy crap that couples found so endearing. He wanted all that sappy crap.
But to get to that stage, he had to actually make the first move. He was kind of hoping to entice Tav into propositioning him first, but she was either incredibly dense, bless her heart, or just pretending not to notice that he was constantly flirting with her. Though perhaps it could have something to do with him parading a staggering number of lovers in front of her over the years. He admitted to himself that if tables were turned, he too would doubt that the other person’s interest was sincere.
And so Astarion decided to go for it and ask Tav out. Because he couldn’t stand the thought of her going on yet another date with someone who was not him.
He cleared his throat. “Tav?”
“Hm?” she looked up from her food, half-way done. It was truly impressive how she could devour huge amounts in no time at all.
“I have this thing that I’m supposed to attend, a charity gala dinner of sorts. Would you like to come?”
“You mean to tell me that Astarion Ancunín can’t get a date for the evening?” she teased. “I find that very hard to believe. But sure, sounds like fun,” she smiled, looking quite excited.
He deflated a little. Because whilst it was a ‘yes’ on the outing, it seemed like Tav thought he meant going together as friends. He sighed into his cup. It would have to do for now. At least he would have someone he actually wanted to talk to throughout the evening. And he was curious what Tav would choose to wear. He rather hoped it was something backless.
On Monday, Shadowheart stopped by his office, knocking on the open door to get his attention.
“Got a minute?”
“For you, dearest? Of course.”
She walked up closer to his desk, delicate heels clicking on the hardwood floor and then the sound being swallowed up by the expensive carpet.
“I heard you are bringing Tav along with you to that charity thing,” she began slowly.
Astarion scowled and took his gold rimmed glasses off. They were non-prescription, as everything about him including his eyesight was perfect, but he rather liked how sophisticated he looked when wearing them.
“And how, pray tell, do you know that?” he drawled, annoyed to have Shadowheart out of all people find out about his plans.
“Astarion,” Shadowheart gave a longsuffering sigh that was meant to show that she doubted his intelligence, “I know you don’t pay attention to anyone unless there is something to gain, but you do remember that I used to hang out with you and Tav at uni? Of course, not,” she scoffed at the blank look he gave her. “You didn’t even recognise me when I first started working here.”
Astarion vaguely remembered that there was a goth chic hanging out with Tav from time to time, but he was otherwise uninterested in anyone that he wasn’t involved with. He barely said ten words to Shadowheart back then. Her being snarky and mean should have been reason enough for them to hit it off instantly, but not so. Years later, when Shadowheart first started at the company, the silvery blonde hair, the professional-looking pencil skirts and heels, and the much softer manner with which she carried herself were polar opposite to the way she looked when they were in their early twenties.
“Get to your point,” he huffed, really not in the mood for whatever Shadowheart had to say.
“Look, I like Tav. She’s not like you and me. We are pragmatic, narcissistic, ruthless,” she accentuated her words by closing the file he was looking through sharply in his face. “Which makes us perfect at what we do. But, for some reason, Tav seems to like you well enough to keep putting up with you as a friend. But do you really think that you two are on the same page about what is going to happen once you bring her home?”
“Ah, yes. The relationship advice that I didn’t ask for from the person who is as terrible at relationships as I am. Good talk,” he opened the file again to signal that their conversation was over.
“I’m serious. You can’t just screw around with Tav. She is the type that is for keeps and shit.”
“Tsk, I see Karlach’s potty mouth is rubbing off on you,” he admonished the half-elf with a smirk.
“Perhaps in more ways than one,” Shadowheart all but purred.
“Do not need the sordid details and to save you the trouble, never will in the future.”
“Oh really?” she raised her eyebrows in surprise, flipping her long hair over her shoulder, “I thought you lived to gossip. When did you become such a bore?”
“Since I had this terrible, headache inducing environmental case thrown on my table,” Astarion rubbed his temples, trying unsuccessfully to fight back a yawn.
“Halsin?”
“Who else. As if it is possible to save that fucking lake for those damn ducks. What is it with that man and ducks?”
She chortled. “Good luck with that. Who knew that he would be so proficient at what he does, right? Wasn’t he the one who was caught streaking couple nights before his graduation? I think we were first year students at the time.”
“It was him, shouting something along the lines of being one with nature. Nice ass though.”
“Nice ass indeed,” she agreed. “But we are digressing. Don’t just sleep with Tav to have yet another notch on your bedpost. If you want to try to make it work with her, go right ahead. Gods know she’s had a crush on you long enough. But if not, well
Expect to be in for a world of hurt. Karlach will hound you and impale you with one of those new swords she bought for her weapon collection she thinks she snuck past me a couple of days ago.”
“You are living together?” Astarion actually looked up, giving her his full undivided attention.
“So it seems,” Shadowheart smiled, a proper, genuine soft smile which rarely graced her face. “Think about what I said. And don’t do anything rash.”
After she left, Astarion tried to focus on his computer screen and the papers in front of him, but his thoughts kept drifting to what Shadowheart said earlier.
Tav has had a crush on him for years. Surely not! He would be the first to know if she had feelings for him, right? And what confused him the most that instead of being elated, relieved that she wanted him, he felt a sick kind of dread.
Shadowheart was right. What was he even thinking? He was not ready for an honest-to-gods relationship! Especially with someone like Tav! Someone he cared about too much to just say ‘thanks, but no thanks’ if something went wrong.
He groaned and massaged his temples again. Why did he even ask her? He couldn’t just cancel now, could he? Although
why couldn’t he? It would be easy enough. Make up an excuse of some sort. Tav would probably forgive him. One could hope.
That same evening there was a pounding on his apartment door. Shadowheart was furious, that much he could tell just by checking the doorcam.
“Can I help you?” he opened the door and Shadowheart stormed right in.
“Cut the crap, Ancunín!” she snapped, eyes blazing and clearly ready for a confrontation. “Tav called me. Apparently, you haven’t the balls to actually admit that you like her, so you just cancelled the date!”
“It wasn’t a date,” he said pathetically, sounding like a petulant child even to his own ears.
“That’s what she said too. That it was just you two going as friends,” she mocked. “So, tell me, what set you off? Was it me telling you that she likes you? Is that it?”
“That has nothing to do with this!” he bristled, his hackles raised. “I simply decided that I don’t want to take anyone.”
“Sure you did,” she rolled her eyes at the obvious lie.
Astarion chose this moment to regroup, sensing that Shadowheart had one over him. And under no circumstances was the obstinate elf stooping so low as to admit that he was afraid of dealing with feelings. Letting out a breath, he ran his fingers through his snowy curls, letting his lips curl upwards into a smirk. It was a familiar act, comforting in a way. Playing the rake has served him well over the years.
“Besides, why would I even want Tav in that way? I could have anyone, literally anyone, just like that. I could have you right here, right on the floor, right now, if I wanted to.”
“Excuse me?” She scowled and crossed her arms over her chest, unimpressed by his insinuation.
“You heard me. In fact, I think that’s why you are really here,” he took a purposeful, predatory step towards her, taking his glasses off and giving her a slow, practiced smile. He tilted his head forward a little, letting a rogue curl fall out of place, dropping his voice to a sensual murmur. “Want me to throw you one, Sha-dow-heart?”
Her eyes narrowed into slits. In hindsight, perhaps challenging her was not one of his brightest ideas. But then again, how many of his snap decisions were?
“Do it,” she lessened the distance between them, so they were standing almost nose to nose. “I said do it. Throw me one, Astarion.”
“Excuse me? Wha- what about Karlach?” he stuttered, panicking and unsure of what to do next.
“Let’s just say we have an understanding, of sorts. So come on then. Right here, right now, on the floor.” Shadowheart trailed a delicate finger up and down his chest, bringing her other hand up to pop the top button on her shirt open.
“What do you say?” she murmured, looking up at him through her long, fluttery lashes.
Shadowheart was a picture and she knew it. There was no way any living, breathing creature would turn her down, especially when her intent was all-too-clear.
Astarion gulped. “I- I think you should go.”
“I knew it!” she jabbed him hard with a manicured finger, making the elf wince. “I knew that you were full of shit! And you know why? Because you like Tav, you clueless idiot! So do yourself a favour, stop being a fool and call her! Take her to the party, don’t take her to the party. But tell Tav how you really feel or I swear to gods, I will give her number to everyone who has been clamouring to ask her out. I have a list a mile long of people who would happily sweep her off her feet the way that she actually deserves! Your move, Ancunín.”
And with that she stormed out, slamming the door shut for good measure.
Astarion did not call Tav. Not that evening, not the day after, and not the day after that.
He hated how much of a coward he was. And Shadowheart was right, Tav deserved much more than his half-arsed attempts at asking her out.
On Friday evening, Shadowheart stopped by his office before leaving for the day and sat down on the sofa opposite his desk, crossing her shapely legs as she looked at him with an unreadable expression.
“Halsin asked Tav out, you know. And she said yes. They are meeting for drinks tonight, probably right about now.”
Astarion did not look up from the papers strewn across his desk. “Thank you for that information, not that I asked.”
“So I take it that you don’t care?”
“Not in the slightest,” he waved her question off, as if it was completely inconsequential and unimportant, lifted the cup of coffee off his table and took a sip. He definitely would have to pull an all-nighter, with the workload being absolutely impossible.
“Good, good. That’s what I thought too. Which is why I told Tav that it wasn’t slutty at all to go all the way on the first date.”
He choked on his coffee.
She quirked an eyebrow and waited a beat for her words to sink in. “And then, being a good friend, I made sure that Tav had three types of condoms in her bag. Halsin looks like a big boy, but you never know what size they might actually need.”
Astarion could not reply because he was still trying to cough up his lungs, but the look in his eyes spoke volumes.
“But never mind that, I’m sure you have a marvelous evening ahead of you,” Shadowheart smirked, getting up and smoothing the front of her pencil skirt out. “I, for one, am meeting up with Karlach in an hour, so have a nice weekend.” With that she walked out of his office, her heels clicking in a way that could only be described as smug.
Astarion told himself that it didn’t matter to him if she slept with Halsin. Hells, it didn’t matter if she slept with half the city! It was none of his business. He had their monthly brunches to look forward to. The next one would be in a couple of weeks, or 26 days, or 624 hours. Not that he was counting.
And that was how Astarion found himself standing across the street from the place that he heard Tav go on about. He guessed correctly, she was indeed at that exact restaurant.
Astarion scowled as he saw that she actually made a real effort for this date, looking absolutely delicious, if he said so himself.
He could have taken her there. It could be him sitting across from Tav now. Reaching out to wipe a bit of sauce from the corner of her mouth with his napkin, she really was a messy pup sometimes, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear. Leaning forward to-
“Oh, hells no,” Astarion hissed, watching as Halsin leaned forward to whisper something in Tav’s ear, making her blush prettily.
“You deserve it, you know.”
He jumped at the familiar voice. Karlach was looking at him with a smirk, Shadowheart standing next to her tiefling.
“What are you doing here?”
“On no, Shadowheart, Astarion’s been discovered!” Karlach stage whispered. “Spying on a person on her date like some kind of creep.”
“And you two? Don’t tell me you just happened to stroll past this particular restaurant at this exact time, hm?” Astarion mocked, his back rigid as he placed his hands on his hips.
“Oh, we are nosy, alright” Karlach admitted readily with a shrug. “But we are rooting for this date to be a success. And I bet Shadowheart that you would turn up. Pay up, baby!”
Shadowheart grumbled and got her phone out, sending the money to Karlach. “You see, I had some faith in you. Should have known better.”
“Well, thank you very fucking much,” he bowed with a flourish and turned away from the two. “Now if you two excuse me, I have a date to crash.”
“What do you think you are doing? There is no way you are going there!” Shadowheart hissed, grasping his forearm and making him squirm. The woman was deceptively delicate, holding him in place easily with a vice-like grip.
“And why the hells not?” Astarion spat, finally managing to push her away with his other arm.
“Because Karlach here will throttle you if you make one step towards that restaurant.”
“Fine,” he grumbled. He survived this long by knowing to pick his battles wisely. He could perhaps take Shadowheart in a scuffle, but Karlach was a different matter entirely. Yet, he was not above being a petty bitch about it.
“Shadowheart wanted me to throw her one,” he hissed spitefully.
“Yes, she told me about that conversation you had,” Karlach grinned, completely unfazed by the hostile looks the two elves were giving each other. “Because my baby always tells me everything.”
“Baby does,” Shadowheart nodded without looking away from Astarion but squeezed Karlach’s hand, her shoulders relaxing somewhat.
“Ew, talking in third person,” he sneered. “It’s such a disgusting, coupley thing,”
“How would you know? Not exactly an expert,” Shadowheart countered quickly, making him scowl.
“Come on, let’s get you home,” Karlach patted Astarion’s silver curls good-naturedly. She really did feel sorry for him, firmly believing that the elf was capable of getting his head out of his ass if given enough incentive. “Whatever happens now, happens. You missed your chance.”
“Shadowheart? Is that you?”
The three froze as they saw that Tav was walking towards them, smiling broadly.
Shit.
She saw them. The three weirdos stalking their friend whilst she was on a date. Not their proudest moment.

Uncle Buck ‱ Part 4
Misterwives
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Single Aunt!Reader
Summary: Your nephew Benji overhears a conversation. Not liking what he's hearing, he takes matters into his own hands.
Word Count: 3.9k
Masterlist: One | Two | Three | Four | Five | Six | Seven
A/N: Sheeeeeesh. This one's longer than the other parts. Take this as my Happy New Years! treat I guess haha. Pt 1 just passed 4k notes and my mind is absolutely blown.
Everybody thank @kilikina34512 for our latest Benji hijinx 😏 Enjoy! and thanks again for all the love đŸ«¶đŸ„°
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bucky joined both of you at "The Screamery" that following day. A themed ice cream shop you and Benji both love that is decked out in classic horror movies.
Benji ate what seemed like his weight in ice cream. You caved and bought him a banana split sundae which Dracula dropped off at your table in a sundae boat the size of Benji's head. Strawberry syrup was drizzled on top to look like blood and a fake candy eyeball took the place of the cherry on top. You knew it would be too much for him to eat all of it, but figured you can always bring the leftovers home.
Benji pointed out all the memorabilia around to Bucky, filling him in on both his personal favorites and yours.
After arriving back at the house, Bucky stuck around for a cup of coffee and this was the point where you royally fucked up.
It's now a few days after, reaching midweek.
"We've decided we're just going to be friends," you explained to Nora as you sat on your bed.
"What?? Why? Was this his decision or yours?" Nora stood in front of you with her hands on her hips.
"Well, both..? I think
"
"You think??"
"He didn't disagree."
"Y/N! Of course he didn't disagree if you decided you didn't want to be with him."
"It's not that I don't want to be with him. I do really like him. He has been nothing but super sweet and kind with our insanity."
"Yeah, it's always a real bummer when a super hot guy brings you flowers and enjoys hanging out with you and your family," Nora rolls her eyes.
"Yeah, I get it. I'm an idiot, okay?"
"Why are you self-destructing? I've seen the smile he gives you, are you kidding me? Smitten. Same goes for you."
"I don't know! I panicked. Holidays are coming up soon. I didn't want to drag him into more nonsense than we already have. We've probably been way over the top and too much for him to want to deal with. We practically kidnapped the guy over the weekend," you ramble on, "Plus what you said with the whole super hot thing. Like come on, how are those cheekbones and that jawline-"
"The eyes."
"The eyes! How is he even real? It's ridiculous."
"No, you're ridiculous. Please explain how the conversation happened, did he tell you this was too much?"
"Well, no
not exactly. We were just talking and my brain kind of went into this red alert mode and I started rambling like an idiot about how nice it has been hanging out and I vaguely remember saying something along the lines that we make a great couple of friends."
"Couple of friends?! Are you for real right now? Did you hit your head and not tell us? What the hell is wrong with you!"
"UGH!" you shout while slamming a pillow over your face.
Benji overhears the conversation from the hallway and shakes his head. Making sure both his mom and aunt were distracted with their conversation he grabs his hat and gloves, putting them on and then grabbing his jacket and tossing that on as well.
He does one more look back when he gets to the front door and quietly makes his way out, closing the door at a glacial speed so no noise would be detected.

Bucky was seated next to Sam at a local bar, beer in hand. Bucky explains what happened last with Y/n.
"I don't blame her for not being interested in me."
"C'mon man, that can't be it. You couldn't shut up about the great time you had bowling with her and how awesome her family and friends were. I was expecting a wedding invitation in the mail by now."
"Now you sound like the small one."
"Love that kid. He really is something else. I hope there's a video out there of him asking you to marry Y/n at that event. That was the best thing I've seen in years. Oh! Maybe I should give him my address so he knows where to mail my invitation," he grins, "We could also play the clip at your wedding."
Bucky glares over at him.
"Who am I kidding, your glare is right. He probably already knows my address. Y'think the kids gonna take this news of you just being friends well?" Sam asks.
Bucky's phone buzzes in his pocket. Pulling it out the screen lights up alerting a new call, listing an incoming call from NYPD.
What could the NYPD want? "Um, I'll be right back, I'm just gonna go-" he holds the phone up slightly and points towards the exit.
He answers as he walks to a quieter area, "Hello?"
"Hello, is this Sergeant Barnes?"
"Yes, is there something I can help with
?"
"We have a Benjamin Barnes here, he was found at Chestnut Park when he approached one of our officers. He said he got separated in a crowd and asked us to call you. Is this your nephew?"
"Yup," Bucky sighs, "That's my nephew, alright. Is his mom or aunt not with him?"
"No, sir. We checked the surrounding area but he wasn't able to spot them. Your phone number was the only one he could remember. Are you nearby to come collect him, or do you have an address we can bring him to? He wasn't sure what his address was either."
How convenient he didn't know his address or mom's phone number, but could probably rattle off all 50 states with their capitals if you asked him.
"I can come and get him."
"Officer Mills is with him now, they are near the east entrance of the park."
"Thanks." Bucky shook his head as he disconnected the call. Walking back over to the bar quickly to close his tab, "I gotta go," he tells Sam as he places cash on the bar.
"What's up? You need some help?"
"Small ones at it again, he must have heard something. Just got a call that my nephew, Benjamin Barnes, is at the park right now. He conveniently got separated from his mom and my phone number was the only one he knows," he answers with a knowing look.
"This kid deserves an award. Please can I come? I'm begging. I need to see this for myself."
"No." Bucky rolls his eyes, starting to walk out without another word. He holds his arm up to flag a cab.
Sam quickly tosses his own cash down and grabs his jacket, running to catch up with the super soldier.
"Are you going to call Y/n?" Sam asks as he finishes adjusting his jacket after he finally catches up.
"No, Sam. I thought I'd collect the kid and take him in as my own," he answers sarcastically, opening the door to the cab as it stopped in front of him.
"Well, he would probably be an excellent member of the team."
"We are not a team."
"Whatever you say, blue steel," Sam quickly opens the other side and slips in.
Once they're close enough Bucky spots Benji next to a hot dog vendor, chatting with the officer. Benji looks over and spots the two approaching through the crowd.
"Uncle Bucky!" He grins, looking over at the officer that was waiting with him, "My uncle is here, Officer Mills," he announces while pointing over at Bucky.
"Sorry for any trouble this might have caused. Thanks for having someone call and waiting with him," Bucky shakes the officer's hand.
"No problem, Sergeant Barnes. Glad to help. I was surprised when he said you were his uncle. Maybe you guys should start workin' on teachin' this guy his address and stickin' with his guardians in a crowd," Officer Mills instructs, looking down at Benji at the last part.
"Absolutely, I'm certain his parents will have a lot to say," Bucky answers, also giving Benji a pointed look.
After the officer walks away wishing them a good evening Bucky pulls out his phone.
"Alright, nephew, where is your mom?"
"She's at home
"
"And why are you not at home with her?"
"I thought it was a nice day for a walk
"
"Uh huh. Does she know you're out for a casual stroll on your own right now?"
"...Not so much
"
Bucky shakes his head and starts to open the contacts in his phone.
"Does anyone know you're out here?"
It was Benji's turn to shake his head.
Sam sits down against the ledge of the wall next to Benji. "You can't be out here walking by yourself, little man."
Bucky goes to tap on your contact, his eyebrow raising when he notices your name now seems to be under "Future Y/n Barnes 💌" with a photo of you laughing while eating ice cream he doesn't recall taking. He looks up at Benji with an eyebrow still raised.
Holding the phone up to his ear, it rings a few times before going to voicemail.
Bucky glares at the phone. He's about to start a text when the phone starts buzzing, "Future Y/n Barnes 💌" pops up on the screen with the ice cream shop photo on full display now.
"Hello, Y/n."
"Hey, Bucky
Sorry I just missed your call. What's up?"
"Do you happen to know where Benji is at the moment?"
"He's been in his room for a while, why do you ask?"
"You sure about that?" He questions while looking over at the roughly 4'2" boy in front of him that is currently in an animated conversation with Sam.
"Well, I was until you asked me that
his room has been blasting Party Rock Anthem for maybe half an hour now, but as far as I know he was in th-" Bucky hears loud music suddenly playing from your end and Y/n mutters a Benjamin under her breath, "Please tell me you have him."
"Well, not sure if he's achieved a cloning system, but I certainly have a close look-alike standing in front of me right now."
"That little punk... I'm so sorry, Bucky. Where are you? I'll come get him," he can hear you starting to rush around as the music shuts off.
"We can come to you, we're not far. We should be there in a few minutes."
"Thank you so much, Bucky. I really really appreciate it. I should probably go tell Nora her spawn escaped. Damnit, she's going to flip her lid
 I'll see you soon."
"Tell her he's fine. Sam is with us too, we'll see you soon."
Bucky hangs up and joins the pair, "Alright, pal. We're dropping you back home. Your Aunt Y/n is expecting us now, and she's telling your mom about your Houdini act."
Benji's shoulders slump, "Do we have to?"
"Well, you kind of live there, and you're 8 years old. You can't be walking around by yourself. Especially without telling anyone. It's too dangerous out here by yourself, bud."
"I know, but I really needed to talk to you."
"What was so important you had to pull this stunt? You know my phone number," Bucky fixes another look at him while crossing his arms which sparks a small giggle from the boy.
"My tablet was charging and I didn't have a phone available.. I heard Aunt Y/n talking to my mom," he starts to explain looking ahead of them as they start their walk back.
"Okay?"
"Please don't give up on, Aunt Y/n."
"Not sure what you heard, pal? But we're still friends?"
"Friends is so lame! She didn't mean it. She said she panicked, but she really likes you. Even mentioned how um, handsome you were," he adjusts his answer with a side eye, "Also, she was worried we were too much for you. You don't think we're too much, do you?" He looks up at Bucky with a pout fully engaged.
"Well, Benjamin Barnes," he jokes, "I can't say you've been flying low under the radar here, pal. You certainly know how to make a statement," he ruffles his hair and puts his arm around his shoulders as they continue their walk.
Sam laughs and offers a fist bump to Benji.
Bucky continues, "But no, I wouldn't say you've all been too much. Just an adjustment. A nice one," he adds.
"You've managed to make robo-buck over here smile more than I've seen since I've known him," Sam comments. "Did you know when I met him, he ripped the steering wheel right out my car from my hands? Punched right through the windshield," Sam makes hand gestures to go along with the story. He and Bucky both glare at each other, Sam's has a smirk to his however.
"Whoa!" Benji shouts, "Can we try that with the car over there?! I wanna see!!"
Bucky huffs and pulls Benji along.
"Ignore everything Samuel says. Pretend he's not even here. I know I certainly do," Bucky mutters at the end.
"I was talking to.." Benji pauses, "Prudence.. about reincarnation. She says you knew Y/n in another life, but you never got together in that life, so your hearts are like puzzles with missing pieces and when you get together the puzzle will be complete. I know this because I'm younger and pure, so I'm more in touch with cosmic forces."
"Wait, puzzles, cosmic forces
Why does that sound familiar?" Sam asks, squinting ahead in thought.
"BENJAMIN DAVID RUSSELL!"
"Dang, full government name. Nice knowing you kid," Sam lets out a low whistle.
They were still about 5 houses back, the front steps to their destination visible up ahead. Nora stood outside their doorway with her arms crossed.
"Get your scrawny butt in here, right now!" Nora points to the door.
"Farewell fellas, it was nice knowin' ya," Benji sends a salute and a wave to the pair as he slowly walks the rest of the way ahead of them.
"Inside, let's go," Nora instructs, "Straight to your room. You'll notice your speakers are no longer in there and the door is left open, keep it that way."
"But mom!"
"Nope, I don't want to hear it right now. Inside, move it."
Benji disappears inside and up the stairs.
"Thank you so much for bringing him home," Nora greets Bucky with a tight hug.
"Hi, I'm Nora," she introduces herself to Sam, "Thank you so much, truly I appreciate it," she pulls Sam into a hug as well.
"Great meeting you, big fan of your kid. Probably not what you want to hear right now though."
"Ha. Yeah, never a dull moment around here. Please come in and join us for dinner. We have some lasagna that's about to come out of the oven. It's the absolute least I can do to thank you both. You can fill me in on what scheme he pulled this time."
"Oh, we wouldn'–"
Sam cuts Bucky off, "We would love to!" He slaps Bucky on the back and then gives him a slight shove forward towards the doorway.
Y/n hears more voices and walks into the living room from the kitchen to join them as they file in through the front door. Following the same steps Nora had done previously, you greet Bucky and Sam with a hug while thanking them.
"Food should be ready in about 10 minutes. You guys wanna grab a seat in the kitchen? I'll grab some drinks. Theo should be here any second, you can fill us in on the latest shenanigan," Nora sighs walking over towards the fridge.
"I need more stories on this kid. Has he always been like this? I'm a little offended he didn't ask me to be his uncle," Sam jokes following Nora into the kitchen.
Bucky looks over at you.
"Hi
" you offer a small wave.
"Hi," he smirks back.
"Should I be worried about what has come out of his mouth this time?"
His smirk stays as he places a quick kiss to your cheek and walks into the kitchen without further comment.
Your eyes widen, "Wait, where are you going?? Bucky! What did he say??"
Tumblr media
The adults all sat at the kitchen table.
Theo arrived home right as Bucky started his explanation of getting a call from the NYPD to collect his nephew.
"I spoke to him quickly before I went to talk to Y/n earlier. I should have known something was up after the 5th Party Rock loop. It just kept going. I assumed he was working on a dance routine or something," Nora looked over to Theo.
"Never trust Party Rock Anthem," Theo shook his head solemnly.
"Party Rock was not in the house tonight," she answers with a deadpan tone.
"Everybody just wants a good time," Theo continues while standing up, "but he's definitely gon' make us lose our minds.."
"We just wanna see you - shake that," Nora points over at him.
"Ev'ry day I'm shuff-shufflin'." Theo dances over to the staircase, "Prisoner number 6-2-4, your gruel is ready!" He shouts up the stairway.
Benji speeds his way down, "Hiya Dad, how was your day? You're looking great today. New shirt?"
"Wow, only butt-kissing level 5? You've done better than that. Let's go, menace." He walks back into the kitchen
"It's wild here and I love it. Hey Buck, we could be brother-husbands!
Misterwives? Co-husbands??" Bucky glares at him, "We can workshop it later," Sam sends him a wink with a nudge.
Nora laughs while your cheeks heat up across from them.
Tumblr media
"Can I show Bucky something upstairs?" Benji asks as everyone cleans up from dinner.
"In your room?" Nora asks, suspicious of more shenanigans.
"Uh, yeah
? Please! It'll be quick."
Benji grabs Bucky's hand and leads him up the stairs.
"This is my room," he points towards the open doorway leading to his room as they walk by, "but this is what I wanted to show you," he opens a door at the end of the hallway that leads to another set of stairs going up to the attic space.
"Ta-daaa!" Benji flips the switch at the top of the stairs, turning on the soft string lights set up around the room. A blanket fort with lights was set up surrounding the large plush sofa, various pillows and piles of soft and fluffy blankets scattered along both the sofa and the floor in front of it. Fake candles and lanterns dotted around the area. A large stack of movies rests on the floor next to an empty bowl labeled "popcorn" and a dusty bottle of wine.
A large projector screen was set up across from the sofa fort with lights also surrounding it, and in the middle was a projector on top of a tripod facing the screen.
"This is our movie hang out room. I made some additions to it. You and Aunt Y/n should have a movie night!" He grins up at the stunned brunette.
"Pal, this is
wow.. This is a really cool setup you have here..."
Two sets of footsteps joining them can be heard, "Benjamin if I come up here and you have Bucky locked up or something, I swear- whoa," you stop short and look around, "What's all this??"
"A movie night for you and Bucky!" Benji bounces up and down, arms out wide.
"What the shiiii-zz," Sam corrects himself in present company, "This is incredible. Now I'm really doubling down on misterwives. Does that popcorn machine over in the corner work??"
After a heavy back and forth debate, Benji somehow convinced Bucky to stay for a movie and Sam to come back another night for the next family movie marathon.
Benji had grabbed Sam's sleeve and tugged him to follow back downstairs.
"Will you sign my Captain America car Bucky got me? What's your favorite kind of car? Do you have a car or do you just use your wings? Can I see redwing next time??"
"Good luck, Sam!" You called down to him.
"Night lovebirds!"
You look over at Bucky, "I'm sorry for self-destructing the other night
I didn't want to overload you. There's been a lot of schemes by an 8 year old going on," you motion around you.
"Well, friend," he gives you a cheeky look, "with how hard Benji has been working on his schemes, your avoidance skills have been understandable. I don't blame you for not wanting to be with some well past his time grump like me that has a questionable history an-"
"That's not what I meant. I just wanted you to have your own choice in all of this. I know how persuasive that little punk can be. I feel bad we've essentially kidnapped you multiple times now."
"Not exactly kidnapping if I've been willingly showing up. I'll let you in on a secret though. When we walked out at the start of that event, I noticed both of you before Benji even walked up to ask his question. Benji was fidgeting, tugging at your sleeve and you- and your hair," he chuckles, tugging at a rogue brightly colored curl, "caught my attention almost immediately. Something was already pulling me to both of you before the schemes even began and I'm honored for whatever crazy reason it brought me here."
You hold your pinky up, "Promise you'll tell us if the crazy gets to be too much?"
He hooks his pinky around yours and tugs you in, his lips brushing against yours. You eagerly return his kiss, pushing up on your toes slightly to better reach.
Bucky pulls back and smirks, "Do your worst."
"Don't let him hear you say that," you laugh pulling him back in.
-
You both moved to the sofa as you looked over the stack of movies Benji set aside, "Of course
such a punk."
"What?" Bucky asks, trying to see the titles you were looking at.
"I really should have seen this one coming. There seems to be a theme going on here with his selections for us," you turn the stack towards him.
The Princess Bride,
Arsenic and Old Lace,
The Wedding Singer,
Corpse Bride,
My Big Fat Greek Wedding,
The Proposal,
Just Married,
The Wedding Planner,
27 Dresses,
Bride of Chucky,
and Shrek.
"Arsenic and Old Lace? Is this a wedding movie too?"
"Kind of? It starts with a couple from Brooklyn eloping at city hall. Mostly it's about two older aunts poisoning men and shoving them in their window seat
Fun times. The back says it's from 1944, have you heard of it?"
He shakes his head, "I shipped out in '43."
"Right. Well, one of my favorite lines from it is highly relatable. He goes I probably should have told you this before, but insanity runs in my family
it practically gallops. I should print that on a custom welcome mat for our front door," you laugh.
He holds up Shrek next, "and this one with the green guy
?"
"I actually think you'll enjoy the friendship between Shrek and Donkey in that one. Their banter reminds me of another pair you may know," you give him a side eye glance.
"He's friends with a donkey? What is the green guy supposed to be? He doesn't marry the donkey, right?"
"Yup, we're watching this one. Pass the popcorn bowl, pleease. I'll go fill it." You grin as you kiss his cheek.

"I’m so in love already with Benji! I could see this boy somehow getting lost at the park and telling a police officer, “Can you call my Uncle instead of my mom? He’s the Winter Soldier!” and having Bucky come get him just to keep from getting in trouble with his mom! 😂"

Cruel Summer | Chapter II: Before It Sinks In
Pairings: Neteyam x (f)Human!Reader
Word Count: 5.5k words
Warnings/notes: angst, allusions to/mentions of smut, friends-with-benefits, mutual pining, 18+ minors DNI
Synopsis: After the Sully kids get attacked by the newly found Recombinant Soldiers, Jake makes the tough decision to leave the Omatikaya. Neteyam is forced to say goodbye to you, to your relationship and to the life he always dreamed about.
A/N: So I decided to split what was originally supposed to be one chapter into two, and this way I get to make good use of the amazing song that @karma-is-a-cat-purringinmylap was amazing enough to turn me on to, that just happened to work like a glove (the first non TS song in my works!!!)! I think I will try sticking to shorter chapters, as I feel 10k chapter might be a a bit overwhelming overall. Now, did this chapter make me cry several times? Yes. Will it make you cry? I'm hoping you will tell me soon ;)
enjoy besties ily xoxo

Suspended in the air, I hear myself breathing
Hanging by a thread, my heart is barely beating
â€ąâ˜œâ”€â”€â”€â”€âœ§Ë–Â°Ë–â˜†Ë–Â°Ë–âœ§â”€â”€â”€â”€â˜Ÿâ€ą
Neteyam watched as you ran towards the lake that he wanted so badly to show you, he was practically buzzing by the time he got to Hell’s Gate. He found this little spot accidentally a few days ago while on a hunt, and it’s been on his mind ever since, exuberant at the thought of you in it, at the thought of your face splitting in a wide smile and your eyes widening taking it all in. He thought of the little squeal you would make as you saw the waterfall and way you’d jump off his back immediately and make your way without thinking of your clothes, or the mask, or anything else. The scene unfolding in front of him was exactly the way he pictured it, a testament to how long you’ve been in each other’s lives, how well he knew every facet of your being, like you were just an extension of his own self, like you were a complicated poem he’s dedicated his whole life deciphering and could now recite by heart, could now dissect it and appreciate it endlessly, to its full potential.
You didn’t look back as you just hurriedly made your way to the edge of the water, taking off pieces of clothing as you did, until you were in a lace thong and bra, that Neteyam has seen multiple times before. He could see it every day, every minute of the day, it could be tattooed on his eyeballs and it would still not stop the way his mouth instantly filled with saliva and his head felt dizzy from all the blood travelling downwards. You were the most beautiful woman he’s ever laid his eyes on. Actually, beautiful did nothing to describe you. Beautiful had nothing on you. Neteyam wished he was more articulate at times like this, he wishes he would have read all the hundreds of books residing in the big library in Hell’s Gate where you loved to spend your time, in order to find the proper word to describe you. In order to validate his postulation that there was, in fact, not a single word in all of the English language, or Na’vi, for that matter, to encapsulate what you meant to him, how he viewed you.
A splashing noise is all he heard as you jumped quietly in the water, and he followed suit, a little concerned when you wouldn’t resurface, until it dawned on him you could breathe underwater with the mask on. When you did resurface, you were standing right underneath the waterfall, the biggest smile in the world plastered on your face, and Neteyam couldn’t help his own that blossomed like how the flowers in the morning bloom did, like how his love for you did.
Neteyam couldn’t remember his life before this. Before tangled bodies and insurmountable pleasures. He couldn’t remember who he had been, what used to occupy his mind and thoughts, what feelings, middling and insignificant, used to plague him before your being took over everything, over every second of every day, over every dream and nightmare, over the past, present and future. Neteyam knew he fucked up. Knew that he lied to you that day, when he told you he wouldn’t fall in love with you. Because he did, he fell like from a distance so far removed he could no longer see the ground. And yet, Neteyam knew the ground was there, and that gravity was pushing him towards it, and that whilst the fall was freeing and exhilarating now, while now it felt like flying, once it ended, it would crush all his bones, and his spirit, and his soul.
“This might be the best thing you’ve ever shown me!” You were screaming loudly, trying to be heard above the booming noise of the waterfall crashing down in deafening roars, and he laughed at how enthusiastic you seemed, how wild and free. You’ve always been like that, Neteyam mused. You kept to yourself in the labs, and in the village, around the scientists and other people, around his mother and the clan - but when you were around people you loved, people you were comfortable with, you were uninhibited and unconfined to expectations, and fears and limitations, at liberty to be yourself, to shine brighter than any star in the sky.
“What are you doing over there, Teyam? You know I don’t like to be kept waiting!”
He shook his head, but said nothing as he removed his cummerbund and knife belt and dove in the warm water, swimming until he reached you. As soon as he did, your arms and legs encircled him like they always tended to, automatically and without thought.
You looked in his eyes, and the glimmer in it made Neteyam’s mind freeze and go blank, made his heart thump in his chest and sweat pool on his skin, that was promptly washed away by the undulating water.
“I want to kiss you.” Neteyam couldn’t help the words coming out of his mouth, a confession and a plea all in one, a futile one in the face of untouchable facts, such as the fact being without your mask will kill you.
You smiled and placed a soft hand on his face, tracing his lips gently, and he shuddered under the touch. “I want to kiss you, too.”
“Thank you, Teyam. This is beautiful.”
“I’m glad you like it, ma Vol. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to bring you here. It was the only thing on my mind, the thought of you and m-“ Neteyam realised his mouth was running faster than his mind could keep up, a rare occurrence in his life, but fairly common in your presence.
Your eyes were wide and full of surprise, and fear started creeping on your face, unannounced and unwelcome, although not completely unexpected. He shouldn’t have said that. Every time things got a little too
intimate between the two of you, any time either of you pushed the boundaries that you both established, boundaries that you needed to abide by above all, it took a while to fall back into step, to get things back to normal, to mutually forget and pretend it never happened. He didn’t want that to happen again. Things were going great for you two, and he didn’t want to lose any time with you, any time he could be loving you instead, any time he could be making you writhe underneath him, any time at all.
“I - I just meant
 you know
 I -“
Your slender fingers found his lips again and at the small pressure you put on them, he stopped talking. Your eyes softened and your surprised expression melted into one of muted happiness, of unspoken affection, of forbidden feelings.
“I know.”
You spent hours swimming and giggling, splashing water at each other, enjoying how, when both submerged, the difference between you didn’t seem that extreme, the discrepancy in your bodies and your heights nothing that couldn’t be promptly overcome. You talked until your lungs were running out of breath and your voices hoarse, just catching up and discussing everything that’s been going on since you hadn’t seen each other.
Right behind a waterfall stood a layered rock formation, which happened to allow for perfect positioning so that, when sat on it, your and Neteyam’s faces were at the same level. You smirked as you slipped your finger in the band of his loincloth and tugged at it until he took the hint and got closer to you. He didn’t have time to protest you taking off your mask recklessly and smashing your lips against his, a kiss so passionate and deep, it pushed any rational thought out of his mind and replaced it with desire and a tingling ache, one that he knew too well, one that seemed ever-present around you.
“Vol..” he tried to speak against your lips, but you just shook your head and deepened the kiss, pushing your tongue past his lips until it met his, entangling in a suave dance until you were panting and heaving against him. He tsked annoyed at your foolhardiness, and watched patiently while you fastened to mask on yourself again and took deep, settling breaths.
“You take my breath away
get it?” You laughed and then laughed some more at how unamused he was. “Come on, it’s funny.”
“You putting your life in danger foolishly is not funny to me.”
You smirked and shrugged indifferently. “Well, not everyone gets my sophisticated sense of humour.”
“God, I hate this mask.”
Neteyam knew how much you hated it. He hated it, too. He’d give anything to be able to kiss you freely, to caress your face, to feel your lips and your soft skin, to see your eyes reflecting the colours of the nature surrounding you instead of a piece of glass doing it instead. Fortunately, Neteyam always knew how to cheer you up.
“Vol
” he started, voice so low and soft it was almost purring. His long fingers traced your beautiful body, and each freckle adorning it, until he reached your panties, that he skilfully pulled down your thighs, until you were hanging on to them by an ankle. “Just because you can’t kiss my lips, doesn’t mean I can’t kiss yours.”
Neteyam watched as your upper body leaned backwards until your back hit the rock wall, pushing your head back and closing your eyes in anticipation. Your hand found its way to his hair, that you grasped tightly and pushed him down, and he laughed at your already needy and disheveled demeanour. “You know, Teyam? You’re definitely the bestest friend a girl could ever ask for.”
â€ąâ˜œâ”€â”€â”€â”€âœ§Ë–Â°Ë–â˜†Ë–Â°Ë–âœ§â”€â”€â”€â”€â˜Ÿâ€ą
I haven't fallen yet, but I feel it comin'
Tell me would it be too much to ask, if you break it to me gently
“What?” Neteyam could hardly believe his ears, could hardly believe that the words coming out of his dad’s mouth were his current reality, and not a nightmare his mind concocted to make him ill, to keep him awake until his eyes started burning in his skull.
“We are leaving. Tomorrow.”
Neteyam watched in pain as Tuk cried silently and immediately felt the pang of fraternal instincts kick in, urging him to pick her up and hold her close in his arms, let her cry it out in the crook of his neck.
“But why, daddy? I don’t want to leave.”
His dad’s stiff posture melted at his daughter’s words, that he could never resist. His eyes softened and he sighed, taking his mother’s hand in his.
“Because we are in danger, baby girl. We now know the humans brought Avatars with them, that they brought the best soldiers back to life to hunt and kill me. And they will stop at nothing to do it, including hurting you.”
The only thought spiralling violently in Neteyam’s mind, as usual, was you. His heart was pounding aggressively in his chest, the increased heart rate making his ears hurt and his head dizzy. What did this mean? How would leave? Just the family? What about you and Spider? You were family to him, and to the rest of the Sullys. Maybe not to his mother, but even she would never want anything bad to happen to you. If you did come, would you make it in another clan? Would they ever accept two humans as one of their own? The Omatikaya barely did, and you have been part of their lives for 19 years. What if you didn’t come? He couldn’t leave you. He couldn’t lose you. What was he supposed to do?
No. No, he couldn’t leave. He wouldn’t leave. He wouldn’t leave you, he promised you, he promised himself. No matter what would ever happen in this life or the next, Neteyam knew you were the only constant he cared about, the only person he wanted to take with him and keep for the rest of time. He would tell his father no. For the first time in his life, Neteyam would tell his father no.
“Kids, I can’t risk putting you in danger. I can’t risk putting the Omatikaya in danger once more, leading them to war. I have too much to lose.” His eyes flickered to his mother, that was sobbing silently by his side, but tried to keep it together for her family and be brave, have a strong heart.
“We have too much to lose. If we go, we can keep them safe. The clan
” His father looked intently at his kids, eyes focused on Kiri and Neteyam. “
The humans.”
The humans

Leaving would protect the humans. Leaving would protect you.
I'm waking the next day, without you beside me
And who I hold on to today, tomorrow will just be a memory

You and Neteyam’s friendship had a lot of boundaries, for good measure. It was necessary when you were doing things normally reserved for couples, or mates, when you were doing things to each other that no one else would approve of, or understand. One of the rules of the game was that you wouldn’t sleep together. You used to, when you were younger, but that was when your relationship was platonic, back when things were
normal. Now, you thought sleeping together and cuddling would be too intimate, too inappropriate, and it would lead to feelings, feelings you were trying to avoid, feelings which might get in the way of the harmless fun you were having, feelings which might make everything
complicated. It was all just fun. Just fun.
That being said, as it turns out, you were both really bad at following your own self-imposed rules, and so it didn’t take too long for you to break them all.
Deep, satisfied pants were all that could be heard in the big recreation centre that Neteyam knew by heart by now. It was dark, his freckles the only light that reflected in your eyes, the only light you needed.
“Well, we’re definitely getting better at that.” you said with a small chuckle. That might have been the understatement of the century, but you didn’t want to scare him by telling him that if it was up to you, you’d have him tied in this room with a chain only loose enough so that he could do this 24/7, but just tight enough so he’d never leave.
You were laying with your head on his chest, as you always seemed to after a long and exhausting session. You loved the feel of his smooth, muscular body, that, despite your size difference, was somehow the most comfortable pillow you’ve ever slept on.
“I’m exhausted. I feel like you and Lo’ak forget sometimes that me and Spider aren’t Na’vi, and yet you work us like we are.”
“Stop complaining, Vol. I need you to be strong and agile, ok? I need to know you’re safe and that you can take care of yourself despite this tiny frail body you possess.”
You raised an eyebrow and scoffed annoyedly, mumbling mostly to yourself.
“Didn’t see you complain about my ‘tiny, frail body’ 20 minutes ago when you were fu-“
“Stop, Vol. You know what I mean. The humans are going to be back at some point, we both know that. And you spend too much time in this place, with your experiments and your books and your shows. I know you don’t like being in the village, and I know that my mother and the villagers give you a hard time sometimes, but at least when we go tracking, or hunting, or practicing, I want you there. I need to know you’re safe, ok?”
He stopped talking, and he sighed deeply, tightening his grip on your body. When he spoke again, his voice was barely above a whisper, laced with intense emotion.
“I don’t know what I’d do if anything happened to you.”
You nuzzled your face in his chest and mirrored his grip on you, smiling softly at his concern and his words, that ran shivers down your spine and fluttered butterfly wings in your stomach.
“The worst thing that could ever happen to me is losing you, Teyam. Everything else, I will handle like the big girl I am.”
He kissed the top of your head, and you stood like that for a while, enjoying the comfortable silence. The thought of this moment ending hurt you deeply, so much so, you couldn’t fathom it. So you decided not to.
“Don’t go. You’re comfortable and I’m cold, and my room seems uninviting by comparison.”
He chuckled imperceptibly. “You love your room, ma Vol. You’ve written songs about how much you love your bed.”
“I love you, more.”
He sighed once more, but pulled you closer and settled down for the night. “I love you most.”
â€ąâ˜œâ”€â”€â”€â”€âœ§Ë–Â°Ë–â˜†Ë–Â°Ë–âœ§â”€â”€â”€â”€â˜Ÿâ€ą
I would look back at all of this and wonder why I stayed in here
Just to watch you disappear
When Neteyam reached your room in the lab complex, his heart was in his throat and his knees were wobbly, and he was almost reminiscent of his Uniltaron and how the worm made him feel, like he wasn’t there anymore, not fully. Like he could see his body from outside itself, like his was mind watching everything unfold from a safe distance. His movements felt robotic and untethered, no thought outside of how was he supposed to do this? How was he supposed to leave you? How was he supposed to tell you that it’s over, that maybe you won’t lose him to another woman but you still will lose him nonetheless. Neteyam was trying to think which one was better. In a sea of two impossible choices, two unhappy endings, two roads reaching the same endpoint, which one was the lesser evil? And was there ever a third path? Was it ever possible, for you and him
 a happy ending?
He used to think so, used to hope so. Used to love the daydreams and nights picturing it, so clear and vivid in his mind, it was like it was all unfolding in front of his eyes. You, tall and blue, laughing like you always did, taking your Iknimaya. The two of you, riding from dusk til dawn, discovering secret coves and falling asleep on green moss, where he would be able to kiss you freely, where he would be able to link to your thoughts and feelings and know that this was it, his most formidable desire come alive. His family, your family, carefree and happy, full of kids' laughter and formidable first steps, full of joy and love, full of him and you. That's all he's ever wanted. A family with the woman he loved. Not the woman he was promised to, not whichever new one they'd have to find for him in the Metkayina, the woman he loved. The only one.
But now, as he was standing in this room, that he may never see again, listening to the shower that he knew you were currently in, the dream feels further away than it ever has, further each minute, until it was slowly fading from view, so dim and dwindling, until it was gone from his life, gone from his mind, forever. Until only hurt existed, only the gaping hole left behind by your absence, by all the shattered dreams and the shards of broken hearts, his own and the one he knew he'd break tonight.
The anxiety that burned every part of his body also made his tail jerk violently in every direction, and he was pulled out of his nightmare by the sound of trinkets getting thrown on the ground.
“Shit.”
Neteyam thought he’d have more time. Hoped that he could gather himself and his thoughts, hoped he would formulate a plan in the few minutes you would still be in the shower. He knew you would have heard it, so he knew he didn’t have that luxury anymore. He still didn’t know how he could ever make the words come out. How he could ever go through with this.
As he kneeled on the floor to collect the broken vase that was now a fitting image of his soul, he heard the door to the bathroom open, but his eyes remained fixated on the task at hand, unable to look in your eyes, whose memory, whose incandescent beauty would haunt Neteyam for life. He tried to speak past the overbearing lump in his throat.
"Sorry. I wish I could control my tail better, but it's always an accident waiting to happen in these tight rooms."
The silence that befell the room was stifling and suffocating, and Neteyam felt the gaping hole enlarge, felt it taking over his entire chest, seeping into every ounce of his body, spreading like wildfire.
When you did speak, Neteyam almost wished you didn't. Because your voice did nothing to improve his condition, but worked as a perfect catalyst for further breakage, further pain. It was sad, and muted. It was disappointed. It was everything he never wanted your voice to be like when directed at him.
"Why are you here, Neteyam?"
"What do you mean why I am here? I can't be here?"
Neteyam spoke without thinking. He felt adrenaline taking over him, his body knowing he wouldn't be able to do this without the emboldenment given to him in this moment.
"You can, you just never are anymore."
“Vol
come on. You know it’s different now than it was in the village, in Hell’s gate. We’re going to get caught.”
“Yeah, well, we wouldn’t want to get caught. God forbid anybody knows you fuck me in your free time.”
“Vol
”
Neteyam didn't understand why he was fighting you about something so trivial. It didn't matter. None of this mattered. None of this mattered, and yet, Neteyam felt compelled to speak his truth. No matter what form it came in.
“I know you’re upset about today. I’m sorry.”
“Why would I be upset about today? You did what you had to do. I mean, she’s going to be your mate soon, right? It’s her hands that should be healing you anyway, not mine. Those are going to scar, by the way.”
Neteyam hated to admit it, because he fancied himself a good person, a person who is respectful and caring and conscientious, but he couldn't have cared less about her if he tried. In fact, his engagement being broken might be the only silver lining in the sea of black dread. He only cared about you. In fact, the distance, and the tension, and the silence and the pain, it was too much. He needed to feel you. If this was his last day with you, he'd be damned if he spent it not feeling your body, and your warmth, not looking in your eyes.
You were so easy to manoeuvre on the bed, it would have been laughable under any other circumstances. Not tonight. When he got on top of you, and felt your bare thighs touching his, and your hand wrapped around his arm, and your eyes boring into his, he felt so much love it was overwhelming him, so sure, for the first time in his life, of that you were the only one he'd ever love, that he was irrevocably in love with you for the rest of time. So regretful of the time he could have spent loving you, and telling you, of the time he spent hiding, only to never get the chance of confessing, never get the chance to follow through on his promises.
“Stop. I know you are upset. I wish it could have been you. You know me, Vol. You know I wish it could have been you.”
Your subtle head shaking made felt sharp bursts of pain shoot through him, like his queue was connected to an electrical socket.
“You should go, Neteyam. This isn’t right. You’re engaged to someone else. I watched her today, watched how worried she was about you, how desperate to help you, to take you away so it’s just the two of you. You’re going to mate with this girl any day now. There’s no room for me in your life anymore. Not like this, anyway.”
He sighed and got off from on top of you, no matter how loudly his mind was screaming otherwise. He wouldn't do anything you weren't comfortable with.
“The engagement is broken.”
He wanted to stop. He could just stop and not say anything else. He could just end it there, and watch as your eyes widened in shock, then settled on a happy, relieved disposition that he saw so vividly in his mind's eye, it was almost as if was happening. He could just not go. He could stay, and love you, and make love to you, and keep you. It would be so easy. Nothing's ever been as easy as falling in love with you.
Leaving would protect the humans. Leaving would protect you.
“Because I’m leaving. I’m leaving the Omatikaya, and so is my family.”
Far beyond my reach is the future you promised
Now what I never even had, I have every reason to miss
"What did you just say?"
You heard him wrong. You must have heard him wrong. You wiped his tears off your face and sat up, feet dangling off the bed.
"Vol..."
"What did you say, Neteyam?"
You felt anger pick at you like you liked picking at your nails when anxiety took the better of you, and it hurt, and it burned, but anger was better than sadness, so you let it burn until you were ashes on the ground.
"My dad said we have to leave for the Metkayina clan. They're looking for him, trying to kill him. If we go, the clan will be safe. You will be safe."
"Are you kidding me right now? Please tell me it's one of those jokes like the ones Spider and Lo'ak love making that I don't get, but they find hilarious, for some reason. Please, Neteyam. Please."
You were begging, you realised. Outside of the intimacy of your bedroom and the cover of darkness, you never begged. You have never begged anyone for anything in your life. And there you were. Pathetic and weak. Begging a guy, the guy, to spare whatever was left of your heart with just a few words. All it took was a few words.
Neteyam wiped tears off his face and stood arrested in your room, arms limp by his side, like he couldn't move. Like you couldn't move.
"I'm not kidding, Vol. Trust me, I want nothing more than to be kidding. I want nothing more than for this to be a stupid, childish joke. But it's not. We are leaving tomorrow."
You were too stunned to speak, so you opted for the only other reaction your body seemed to be able to produce: laughter. You laughed. Loudly and obsessively, louder than you should have, louder than you ever have. It was so ridiculous, so ludicrous, it felt like the only appropriate reaction.
"This can't be real. This can't be happening."
Neteyam knelt by your side on the bed, and took your shoulders in his hands, urging you to look in his forlorn eyes, red and puffy, just like yours were.
“Vol, don’t you understand?! This is going to protect you. This way you get to be safe. I need to know that you are fucking safe, and if that means I go, then I go.”
There it was again, the anger picking at your brain until it buried everything else, until it was the only thing.
“Oh, that is such bullshit! Stop acting like you would choose to stay regardless of your family’s choice, even if it kept me safe. You have never been able to choose for yourself, never done anything outside of what Jake ever said, what Neytiri said, what Mo’at said, no matter how bad a choice, no matter how much you didn’t want it. I’m supposed to believe that it would be different now why?"
“It would, Vol, because it’s you!” he shook you gently as he said that, eyes so intense, so serious - so truthful.
"So stay. Just fucking stay. Please."
“Even if I stay, I still have to mate with her, don’t you understand?”
You knew that he was right. There was no win for you. For either of you. This life was cruel, and it gave with one hand and took with both, always leaving you with less than what you started. You weren’t one to question the meaning of life or the fairness of the universe, but now, taking in the man you loved more than anything in the world, the man who you knew loved you, you wondered what was the point of it all? Why were you here? Was there really that much cruelty reserved just for you? Were you how humanity was paying for its horrible missteps on Pandora? Were you an experiment, a toy put on here just as a Voodoo doll for Eywa, and every time she pricked another needle in you, it would reflect back on Earth and on of the people banished back to it? It felt like that sometimes, and it definitively felt like that tonight.
"I can't believe this. I can't believe you."
It suddenly felt much like you exchanged moods in between you, his despondent, wretched one passed on to you and replaced with your anger, strong and unwieldy.
“God fucking damn it, Vol! Do you think I want any of this, do you think this is my choice, that this would ever be my choice?! I'm trying to protect you! I'm trying to make sure you are safe, that the clan is safe! What the hell do you want from me?!”
He was angry and desperate, tears obvious in his eyes, as was the flush in his cheeks. Your eyes were leaking endless streams that you couldn’t push back, that you couldn’t remove from your cheeks in time before they were replenished, like they were begging to be seen and acknowledged, like the pain wouldn’t be denied - it wanted to be felt, and it didn’t care who it had to go through to do it.
You felt emptiness envelop you like a shroud at the situation that settled in and had time to stew in your mind with each passing moment. It was over. All over. The dreaded ending, the wreck it would leave behind, it was greeting you like a warm friend, announcing its arrival.
I'll just shut my eyes, forget that you were mine
How do you go from making one your home
And then just letting it all go
Your voice was numb and flat, quiet undulations with no emotion to give them any fluidity or any life. Your words were just a means to an end.
“Nothing, Neteyam. I don’t want anything from you anymore.”
You turned your back to him, unable to look at his skin on which traces of you still lingered, at his eyes in which you always saw the window to his soul, and your soul, the meaning of life and your future happiness encapsulated, his lips that traveled your body like a curious wanderer, finding Valhala in between your thighs, his hands which held your face and touched your hair, which pushed you closer to him or on him. A glance at any of these things and you would crumble, and you would shatter in a million pieces that no one knew well enough to put back together apart from him. You were a puzzle only he knew how to solve, and in his absence, you were all alone, and broken, left to mend your own cracks, knowing full well you’ll never be able to be put yourself back together quite the same way you were before.
“Vol
 please.”
“Leave, Neteyam. Just go. Just fucking go.”
Stay. Please. I love you. I’m so in love with you. Don’t leave me alone. I don’t want to be alone. I don’t want to lose you. Please. Please. Please.
The sound of the door sliding closed behind Neteyam was the last thing you heard before he was out of your life, leaving everything you had behind.
So I breathe and let you go
How do I breathe and let you go?

A little rant on patch 6 and the implications for bg3's future
Okay, bear with me for a sec its gonna go somewhere eventually. My first bg3 run (thats spammed here on this blog) i played ascended astarion/dark urge romance where i picked the reject bhaal and become the absolute ending.
as it was my first playthrough on release i was vibrating off mt seat and i didnt really have elaborate HCs or anything, i was just doing a quick evil run until the bugs get sorted out. i didn't think much beyond "yes this dude would want the shiny stones for himself"
first time i saw astarion enthralled, i was confused. he asked me to do it, he was quite insistent on it since the beginning of the game. i was confused for a couple of hours, digesting the entire game i just played. Then it hit me; the game was calling me out. it was telling me ive been stupid for not having seen this coming and at that point i felt awe.
it was right, everything pointed to this, it was right in front of my eyes all i needed was to connect the dots that the game laid out quite visibly and i was just too caught up to see.
'well my durge would never do that' didnt matter because thats exactly what the companions thought. Gale thought the powers of an insatiable weave wouldnt corrupt him, that he'd stay true to himself, shadowheart thought shar had blessed and her she'd guide her, that she could be her true self under her influence, astarion thought he'd be free, that he'd cherish the bond he'd made with the player but at the end of the day power reveals; and when that power is acquired through the corpses of thousands its quite evident that Absolute power corrupts absolutely. IT WAS IN THE FKIN NAME.
it was a shining bait i was so focused on getting my hands on that i didn't look back to see the mountain of corpses i had to step on to get there. the game was telling me 'HEY LOOK AT EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE TO GET HERE, LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE OTHERS WHO THOUGHT THEY COULD ACHIEVE THIS, DO YOU THINK YOU'D HOLD HANDS AND SING KUMBAYA WITH YOUR FRIENDS AFTER ALL THIS?'
just as there was never an option where frodo could stab saurons flaming eyeball and sit on his throne with the ring on his finger and sam at his side, there was never an ending i could get my 'happy ending' the way id like it to. i wanted frodo to remain in middle earth and have some peace in the end, i didnt understand how he was 'too changed' to remain and sam wasnt when i first read the books. i was angry even, that i didnt get what i wanted. it wasnt like tolkien haphazardly put together an ending out of his ass bcs he didnt know what to do with the characters, its not that he didn't think while writing that the fans would hate it, he wrote a story that achieved its catharsis by reaching its narrative conclusion. it couldnt have done that any other way. it was deliberate. i may not have understood or agreed at the time but it was the story he wanted to tell, and it wouldnt be one of the greatest stories ever told if the writer wanted to please a 10 y/o like myself.
it was never out of character for my durge at all, i was just blissfully avoiding the NARRATIVE.
months later we get this absolute narrative abomination:
Tumblr media
and all i can say is im worried.
im worried bcs this is a clear disrespect to the story they've written, im worried bcs if they can do off with huge plot elements and beats such as this just like that it shows a lack of commitment to their own plot and if a huge Point of the game can be treated like a minor mistake than what else can? was is just a lack of oversight that laezel gets killed under vlaakith? can it be waved off if enough vlaakith loving gith players come together and shout loud enough that they want to ride alongside their queen with their gith gf?
what part of the game is tangible to hold on to, and after two years worth of patches that are made to appease the fans at the expense of the story, will it still be the game i fell in love with?
i dont blame the fans for wanting, i blame the devs for delivering. that they could sacrifice the integrity of a pretty straightforward story bodes ill tidings for the future of this game.
yes i wanted this feature, but i was glad i wasn't given it. i may have been confused and slightly miffed that i didn't get to reign supreme with my evil bf, but i immensely respected the game that could call me out on it. i wish they could show the same respect to their own writing.

I Think You're Holding The Heart Of Mine(Part Seven)
Tumblr media
warnings: mentions of drinking, angst, Gojo being silly, my own interpretations of what the Six Eyes can see, smoking word count: 1.9k pairings: Nanami Kento x Fem!Reader summary: Ino tries his best to put in a good word for his mentor, while you decide to go on a mission with Gojo. Meanwhile, Nanami is left in his apartment, completely lovesick. taglist: @beneathstarryskies a/n: Honestly, I was debating on posting this or not on Tumblr considering what happened with someone putting community labels on all my Nanami stuff...but I didn't want the Tumblr community to miss out!

Tumblr media
You’re driving yourself crazy with the thought of Nanami’s wife. Why would he kiss you? Why would he promise to take you out on a date? You’ve known each other for so long, so why would he hide something like that from you?
You’re pacing in your office, unsure if you want to jump out the window and sneak away from the school for today or if you just want to leave in front of everyone and cause a bit of a scene. You eyeball the window, thinking to yourself that it’s not that high of a jump. You’re pulled from your thoughts by a knock at the door.
“Who is it?” You ask, your voice sounding almost strange to you.
“It’s me, Ino.”
You freeze in your spot. How are you supposed to face someone like him right now? You’re mentally cursing yourself. You don’t even want to talk to anyone right now. And yet still, you open the door for him. He has a sheepish grin on his face.
“How are you holding up? I didn’t get to see you when you got back from the mission with Nanami-sama.”
You swallow hard, “I’m okay, Ino-kun. Just trying to get back to a normal routine.”
There’s a silence that hangs heavy in the air. You know he’s not here to talk about the mission. You know he’s here to talk to you about what just happened less than thirty minutes ago. The rumor that’s been spreading like wildfire. The one about Nanami’s supposed wife.
“I don’t know what’s going on between you and Nanami-sama,” Ino finally says, “but I want you to remember that he isn't a bad man. He would not lead you on.”
You bite your lip, looking away. The fear of your deep feelings for Nanami coming through and being written all over your face suddenly overwhelms you. Tears sting your eyes and you try to turn away completely, but Ino grabs your wrist gently.
“Listen to me, sensei. He wouldn’t hurt you like this. I haven’t ever seen him look at someone the way he looks at you.”
This causes you to gasp and you look at Ino with teary eyes. He smiles at you once more, then you suddenly pull him into a hug. He’s always been such a pleasure to work with, but him saying that really comforted you.
“Thank you, Ino-kun. I’m just so scared that it’s all just a trick,”
He shakes his head, “No way. This has got to be a misunderstanding.”
You try to convince yourself that he’s right, but it still aches deep inside of you. If it turns out to be true, if Nanami has a wife, then you’ve been played like a fool. There’s a part of you that wonders if you could even manage to deal with that. You figure you’d be so heartbroken, you’d probably want to leave the sorcerer world completely once more.
“Trust me on this one,” Ino implores. “I know him and I know he’d never intentionally hurt you. I think he loves you, sensei.”
This was like a dagger to your heart. Because you know that if Ino is speaking the truth but that Nanami has a wife, it’s going to get way too complicated for your liking. You wish partially that you could rewind time. You’d rewind it to when you and Nanami were in that onsen and you’d finally just confess. At least then if he would tell you he has a wife, you’d be able to stop the kiss from happening.
“He’d never hurt you intentionally,” Ino repeats.
đ“†©êš„ïžŽđ“†Ș
“You comin’?” You hear Satoru ask you.
With your bags packed, you follow the strongest sorcerer towards the doors. He had been the one to suggest you two go on a mission together. One that was out of town. So even though you’ve barely been home for a full day, here you were getting into the car with Satoru and with Ijichi at the wheel.
“No train rides this time, usagi-chan!” Gojo teases you a little as he opens the door to the car. You step inside, getting settled for a decently long ride out of the city.
Once your bags and things are neatly packed in the trunk, Satoru joins you in the back. Ijichi takes his place in the driver’s seat, but not before taking a careful glance at you through the rearview mirror. Everyone seems to be walking on eggshells around you, which angers you. You weren’t the one who lied about having a spouse.
Satoru sprawls out on the backseat, laying his head in your lap. This causes you to chuckle, and he smiles. He’s doing all he can as your friend to be able to cheer you up. Then he does something he doesn’t do often; Satoru Gojo takes off his blindfold and he looks up at you.
“Your aura looks
dull,” Satoru pokes fun at you, but you can’t help but smile.
“Dull huh?” You roll your eyes.
“Not the shade of green that it usually is. Luscious fields of green have turned into a damp swamp.”
This causes you to groan and you flick his nose in response. He whines and holds his nose in pain, then you watch as he jokingly pretends to punch you, but instead he just laughs.
“I’m surprised you didn’t use Infinite on me,” you state.
Gojo shrugs, “I don’t like seeing you sad at all. I didn’t want to make you even more sad.”
Growing up without knowing that you were a Sorcerer until you were a teen made things difficult for you. You were one of the only ones in your family that could see curses, just like Kento. So when you came to Jujutsu Tech, Gojo had become something like an older brother to you. And even now, he was trying to be a good friend.
“I’m not sad,” you spit out.
Gojo laughs, “As if. I can read you like a book, usagi-chan.”
You roll your eyes at him, but there’s a faint smile on your face. He sits up, wrapping an arm around your shoulder to pull you in even closer. Then he presses a soft kiss to your temple.
“You wanna talk about it?” he finally asks.
You sigh, “Talk about what? There isn’t much to talk about.”
You look out the window, trying to hold in your tears. Now that you weren’t at the school, and even if Ijichi is present, you just feel like breaking down crying. You always hold yourself up as much as you can, trying not to show too much emotion when it’s not necessary. But right now, your heart is aching too much.
“Maybe you were right,” Satoru chimes. “Maybe he was a womanizer.”
This makes you laugh, unsure of how to react properly to this. It’s just so silly, but leave it to Satoru to make a comment about that. Even if it’s about stoic and proper Nanami Kento. You wondered if maybe when he was a salaryman, maybe he liked to toy with the hearts of women.
“It seems like it at this point,” you mutter.
Gojo’s eyes widen, “Oh! So the honeymoon inn worked! Did you guys
you know, fuck like bunnies?”
You roll your eyes and push him aside, but this time he puts up his Infinity. You get shoved aside and you stick your tongue out at him. “No, we didn’t. Why does everyone use that term?”
He shrugs, “I heard Itadori say it and I liked it. You and Nanamin should fuck like bunnies.”
“Not happening
especially since he has a wife.”
Neither of you know what to say. The car ride becomes a bit more silent than you’d like. You feel Satoru holding your hand, gently rubbing his thumb over your knuckles. You’re soothed by the small action.
“I don’t think that was his wife,” he finally confides. “I don’t have concrete proof, but Nanamin isn’t that kind of man.”
You hold onto those words until you two pull up to the hotel just outside of the city. Maybe this mission was exactly what you needed. Maybe you just needed to put some space between you and Nanami.
đ“†©êš„ïžŽđ“†Ș
Nanami’s POV
It’s really no wonder you left in such a hurry with Gojo-san. I bet you never want to see my face again. I’m ashamed that I wasn’t quick enough to dispel all these rumors, but I think the damage is done. The slightest bit of hope I had was when I saw Ino-kun leaving your office. I wonder if he tried to put in a good word for me.
Here I am, practically tearing my hair out, drinking whiskey. It’s lonely in my apartment, but I suppose it’s what I deserve for not acting quicker to stop Tara’s brash decision. And what’s worse is that she’s having her abortion tomorrow. I’m going to be there with her just like I promised her, but it’s just so difficult.
She’s still texting me, which doesn’t make me feel any better about the situation. I wish I could just wash my hands clean of her, but I know she needs support right now. This can’t be easy for her, and I have empathy. But I’m really regretting a lot of things. I just never thought that Tara would show up at some point.
I sink another glass of whiskey, then I pick up my pack of cigarettes off the coffee table. I’m almost desperate to text you, but I know that you’re with Gojo-san. I think you’d probably just ignore me anyway. I light up my smoke, inhaling the sweet nicotine.
My thoughts are plagued with the regrets of not telling you how I feel when we were on the mission together. I should have just kissed you more. I should have shared that bed with you, and I should be the one on that mission with you today.
Tears sting my eyes as I pour myself more whiskey. I’m just getting drunk and I know I’ll regret it in the morning. It’s so seldom that I do this to myself, but the thought of losing you forever has been swirling in my mind. Just the thought of never seeing your pretty face again, never hearing your angelic voice.
How am I supposed to live without you?
Words as sharp as daggers hurt me when I imagine what you might have to say to me. The things you’d accuse me of, and I wouldn’t even blame you. I know I have to fix things with you, but it’s too hard to think about it right now. I’m not someone who wallows in their own self-pity, but I’m too lost in this melancholic state of mind to shake out of it.
I scroll through my phone, and I see you posted a picture on social media. It piques my interest, but there is a feeling of jealousy that passes over me when I notice it’s a selfie of you and Gojo. He’s got his arm wrapped around you, and you’re both making silly faces. Despite the fact that you’ve always told me you view him as an older brother, I can’t help but feel my blood boiling inside of me.
When you come home, I vow to myself that I’ll treat you better. I’ll treat you like the queen you are. Nothing else matters
but you.

Making my own bookcloth
Back in february I went to a convention for all kinds of crafts and found a lot of cool materials I wanted to try in lieu of bookcloth. This was my first foray:
Finished book!
Tumblr media
In a workshop back in 2023 I learned how to back normal cloth with silk paper so that it can function as bookcloth. I was taught, that this is necessary because otherwise the glue would press through the cloth and be visible on the front. With this dragon scale styled cloth I wasn't afraid that would happen. It is very thick and has kind of a plasticky coat. So I disregarded all of that advise and just tried to do it like I would with regular bookcloth:
Tumblr media
I noticed very quickly that the cloth kinda soaked up the glue and I needed a lot to get it wet and sticky enough. Than I ran into the problem, that my newly fashioned edge cutter was a little to narrow for such thick material. I had little holes at the corner where the cloth didn't quite overlap. It also would not really stick to the carton. First I tried pressing it down with my fingers, than with a vise. Nothing worked, it just wouldn't stick. That's how I learned there's a second reason for backing the cloth: So that it will fucking stick. The glue is not suitable for things that are not paper. So you have to adhere paper first to the cloth and then you can connect that paper to the carton.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is how I learned to do it:
Iron the cloth until all the creases are gone. Otherwise they will stay permanently. Leave the iron on. Dilute your glue with wallpaper paste (I used the regular one for paper from a hardware store and used the strongest water/paste ratio; the paste/glue ratio I kinda eyeballed approx. 1:3). Then put it in a laquer dish like in the picture and use a roller without this really fuzzy stuff (this one is more like foam). This will help you put the glue on very quickly and evenly. Lay out the silk paper (normally you should measure the cloth larger than you need it and the silk paper a little smaller than the cloth so that you don't have glue remnants everywhere. I already cut mine so the silk paper is larger here). Roll on your glue (very quickly but make it thin and even). Then wait. Test it with your fingertips. It should still stick but not be really wet anymore. Otherwise it will press through your cloth and you will have stains. If it gets to dry it will not stick. Then carefully stretch out all the creases. If you think it is right, put on the cloth, flip it and go over the silk paper with an iron. Be careful not to rip the paper (this will happen if it was still to wet). Check that the cloth isn't creasing. Try to get it as flat as possible. After the paper is dry, flip it again and go over the cloth side.
After I did that I had less problems. The cloth still needed to be pressed with a vise because it was so thick, but it held.
Tumblr media
I mismeasured the back of the bookblock though and had to do it all over again... Well, you learn through practise and the second attempt was much prettier as well.
I used marbled paper I got from that retailer from hell and then I again fucked up with the Cricut (forgot to mirror the letters). Otherwise I am very pleased with the result and my cousin (the recipient) was also quite happy.

Binding Details
Bookblock was premade from schmedt.de
Endpapers from the retailer from hell (that I'm not gonna link)
Cloth from taschen-zubehoer.de

“Huening Kai!”
“Kai Kamal Huening!”
“Kai!!!”
What was it? Who is it?
Was it another Dragon attack? Did the remaining knights accidentally burn themselves from an imprompted Barbeque again? Did Huening Kai forget to leave his plushies out of the washing?
Huening Kai rubbed his eyes awake, bedraggled, back
not at all sore because he wasn’t sleeping on a deflated air mattress under a thin yellow tent in the middle of nowhere, no.
He had awoken from his king sized bed, plushies providing him company and comfort. The sliver of light that had passed through the crack between the curtains, absorbed into his crystal suncatcher casting the barely decorated room into this mellow liveliness.
The banging from his left side only grew louder.
“Kai wake up!”
Huening Kai sighed.
He unlocked the bedroom door in his mint green pajamas and dragon slippers that had its own fuzzy tails and wings and hyper-realistic ruby eyeballs with seven centimeter eyelashes.
“Yeonjun
” Would you please stop knocking down my bedroom door this place costed me an arm and leg not to mention water bills and taxes.
Yeonjun, wet hair tucked in a pink hand towel, face covered in a thick balm of lavender facial scrub, wearing his most favoured pink bathrobe with the fuzzy ruffles at the sleeves and hem, went on to say in a rushed tone, “I know I know it’s super early I get it but Kai.”
“Hm?”
Soobin came out of no where, in that black business suit of his, running down the hall while fixing his tie, “We have customers. A lot of customers.”
What

Oh!

Oh. Right, Huening Kai thought, still rubbing his eyes, It’s opening day.
Yeonjun grabbed Huening Kai in the most visceral literal sense while trailing behind Soobin. The trio spiraled down the steps, the restaurant empty but not at all quiet.
Chittering, it sounded at the front door
all the way to the village.
Huening Kai blinked.
The line up for customers started from the village all the way to his restaurant.
And the first few people at the door were his lethargic palace buddies, Taehyun and Beomgyu holding boxes of cookies, and your parents.
“Hello Kai,” your mother says, holding a wagon of boxes of cookies twice her height, “We thought we’d make a quick delivery for the opening day so we came as early as we could, right hon?” She turned to her husband, holding only a handful of floral banquets in his arms.
Because the rest came in boulder-sized sacks tied to both Taehyun and Beomgyu’s backs.
“Mhm! Picked out all the best flowers in my shop. We’re looking forward to eating some good food!”
“Mhm, katsudon is our favourite
” Your mother’s eyes trailed towards her husband’s, reminiscent in every sense of the word.
“Oh yes it is~” Your father sighs dreamily.
The customers behind them must’ve noticed the couple talking not to themselves but the glass walls
the people inside the glass walls.
Screaming and the tossing around of fansigns and aegyo heart eyes ensued.
Taehyun and Beomgyu’s eyes twitched, backs at a forty-five degree angle leaning forward, eyebags ablaze twitching internally screaming, ‘help us, please, let us out of our misery.’
Yeonjun and Soobin stared back at Huening Kai.
Soobin went, “
 You’re the boss.”
Huening Kai didn’t need to think twice.
He walked towards the glass door with a great big smile, so big, so brave.
He flipped the ‘closed’ sign backwards, reading out, ‘Welcome to Kamal’s Katsudon!’
The flyers Taehyun had initially ordered the previous week to be given out to the entire village, the free cookies your mother baked for Huening Kai and his first handful of customers as well as the flower banquets your father had prepared both for the customers and to decorate the restaurant in, the grand opening of Kamal's Katsudon went smashingly.
And you were the marketing genius behind all of this, smirking to yourself when you watched from your room, the intense line-up of hungry customers trailing like a horde of ants straight into the restaurant. Well done to everyone, truly.
The stress you felt when working unwavered you. Typically.

You stared out your window, the sun asleep, the line-up of customers completely gone by now. And so was your to-do list of Queen’s orders, all mostly done. Everything sewn together far earlier than its designated deadline.
You stared out your window, the to-do list, the window, the to-do list
 the window

Rubbing your darkening eyebags, you began the gruelling five minute walk to Kamal’s Katsudon.
And it was the prettiest thing ever.
A verdant row of puffy bushes nestled amongst the sidelines of the sandy-yellow dirt road, trees packed with thick fresh leaves and scaling trunks, a walk over a quietly frantic stream just up ahead, looming with a decent amount of fireflies and gray pebble stones.
Props to Soobin’s construction team for crafting such a mesmerizing soul-enriching five minute walk.
At the end of the road stood the restaurant, glowing, seriously radiating the warmest brightest light in the forest. It was only near the restaurant you realized how orange the tree leaves were, falling pitifully like snowflakes on a calm winter day, except the air wasn’t at all dry and crisp, it smelled of a mother’s kitchen on a sunday afternoon: fried chicken, curry, tea.
The full moon stood high, and judging by the window walls, it was
 closing hours.
There you stood, gazing upon the now retired knight, in a kitchen apron, wiping down counters behind the countertop

The doorbell rang for the thousandth time that day.
Yeonjun could feel his bones squishing down into cubic blocks.
Soobin didn’t give a flaming damn that Yeonjun had bunched up his wiping cloth against a curry-stained table. His eyes simply remained glued onto his intriguing mysterious book.
Huening Kai did, though, and so he straightened his shrimp back and says behind the counter, “Sorry, we’re clo- oh?” Huening Kai stops whatever he’s doing and races around the counter.
He recognizes this girl from anywhere.
The door closed behind her, the beauty in a black cloak releases her hoodie. “Surprise, surprise.“
Yeonjun slapped his dirtied cloth down.
Soobin snapped his book shut.
Everybody cheered, “Y/N!”
Huening Kai had ushered the both of you to a quiet corner of the restaurant, a seat against the window walls, away from everything else.
To save Yeonjun from dish washing duty, all you had ordered was a cup of barely tea.
Two cups of barely tea had landed on your table instead.
“You came
” Huening Kai says, taking a seat right infront of you, back twice as big as the chair. To say the man looked out of breath was an understatement. Huening Kai smells so terribly pungent of herbs and spices, apron stained, constantly breathing shallow breaths while wiping the sweat off his neck.
It was the look on his face, however, that evoked a different unotable feeling inside of you— lips slightly apart to take in breath after breath, creases around his eyes and the tight skin around his face.
It sort of kind of mirrored you on a busy day, just a couple hours ago, in fact. “Busy day, huh?”
“Tell me about it.” Huening Kai exasperatedly rolled his eyes which was, at the moment, the funniest thing ever coming from someone typically unwavered by anything. “Your parents really outdone themselves with the free rose and cookie giveaways, we’re all out of supplies for the next two months
”
“Whoa. Um.” Mission successfully failed? “Did you notify your supplier about the stock shortages?”
“Yeah.” Huening Kai casually notes, pointing at the back of his seat towards a designated spot in the restaurant, a mini shelf of storybooks and a big red bean bag perched next to it. “He’s right there.”
Soobin quietly flips to the next page of his book, sinking butt first deeper into the beanbag.
Huening Kai sighs deeply. “We’ll manage. Is everything okay on your side?”
“Hm?”
“Seamstress duties, I mean.”
“Oh. Oh yeah, everything’s alright. I just completed a couple errands today, actually.”
“Ahh
" Huening Kai shifts in his seat, staring out the window walls every once in a while which, you can't blame him, was a type of beauty you don't pass by every so often, "well, if you’re not too busy, I wanted to
ask if you’d like to join me tea plucking this weekend?” He straightens up. “For work. It’s for work, but it’s a relaxing type of work. I thought we could catch up because even though I’m not a knight anymore and I don't work under the royal family anymore I...”
“No, don’t worry about it Kai, I get it, we’re still friends, no question.”
“Yeah
 Yeah, of course.”
“Mhm! Tea plucking does sound wonderful, by the way.”
Huening Kai’s eyes light up. “You think so?”
You did. You really did think it would be time well spent with Huening Kai after so so long. And
perhaps you could take a break from your own duties every once in a while

Your mouth moved faster than your thoughts. “Yeah, I do. I’ll do anything as long as it’s with you.”

~ Chapter 2. 02 ~
I apologize in advance for any spelling or grammar mistakes and how poorly written this fanfic is. English is not my first language and together with my dyslexia ass things can go wrong I'm sorry.
Tumblr media
I watch as Hyun-su slides down against the wall opposite of me, taking out his phone from his pocket. I was still trying to control my breath from what just happened with my head facing the floor when I heard Hyun-su talk.
"I might as well just kill myself now."
A frown came on my face while I lifted my head.
"What?" I breathe out?
"At least then." He paused for a second before continuing.
"I can die a human being."
the whole time he was looking at his phone not giving me one look.
I was about to tell him he shouldn't do it. At least not yet, when I heard voices coming from outside the window. With a confused look, I stood up and walked to the window.
Carefully I pushed the curtains to the side looking if anything was in front of the window but there was nothing. I thought I just imagined it when I heard it again.
"What's that?" Hyun-su came standing beside me clearly hearing it as well.
I swallow thickly and with shaky hands, I slide the window open. The both of us looked outside trying to see if we could see the source of the voices.
"Look," Hyun-su whispered.
My eyes traveled down to where he was looking and saw a man hanging outside the window with ropes. What the hell was he doing? A little girl's voice was heard before we could see her head peeking out the window. The man looked up at her and that's when I recognized them.
"Mister Kim?"
I could see Hyun-su looking at me out of the corner of my eyes.
"You know them?" I nodded my head looking up.
"Yeah. I sometimes babysit his children. Su-yeong and Yeong-Su. They don't have a mom anymore and Mister Kim has to do it all on his own. So sometimes I babysit them when he has to go to work and stuff." I explain, before looking back at them.
The moment I looked back at them, my eyes widened. A monster, an eyeball-looking monster came from behind something right toward them. I heard Hyun-su saying get out of there, but the monster was already beside Mister Kim.
The moment he laid eyes on the monster his grip on the rope lossen before losing it completely.
His scream together with the kids filled the air while he fell. I felt Hyun-su look away, but I couldn't. His screaming was soon replaced with an awful sound when he hit the ground. My legs were shaking underneath me while tears began to fill my eyes.
The kids were screaming for their dad which quickly changed to just regular screaming when the eyeball monster appeared in front of their open window.
"Su-Yeong, Yeong-Su," I whisper looking down in shock from what just happened.
Someone grabbed my shoulder pulling me away from the window. I blink a few times before seeing Hyun-su close the window and the curtains.
The both of us were breathing heavily, trying to process what the hell we just saw. In the background, I could hear the kids screaming in fear, but I couldn't move I was just looking at the closed window.
Something inside of me was screaming to do something, to just move, but I couldn't.
The light of the outside hit my face making me snap out of my daze. I watch as Hyun-su throws his computer screen out the window.
I was about to walk to him asking why he just did that when the sound of hitting something filled my ears. Hyun-su jumped back closing the window quickly, making me more confused.
I took a step forward, but he quickly moved away from the window taking me with him.
"What.." I try to say, but he just puts a hand on my mouth cutting me off. My hand went to his trying to protest when the ringing in my ears came again, followed by a shadow casting over my face from the outside.
My eyes widened when I saw the eyeball monster standing in front of our window. Hyun-su let go of me to pick up the stick he had laid somewhere before moving back to where I was standing.
The two of us stood there looking at the monster while it looked at us up and down. I was scared that if we would move, it would do something.
Its head turned around revealing another eye, who looked more pissed than the other one before it burst through the window.
Before it could reach us Hyun-su had stabbed it in its eyes. While it was injured and trying to see again we ran to the door when I felt something smacking my body into the wall knocking the air or of me.
I tried to open my eyes and see what was happening, but when I did everything was blurry. I moved my arms around trying to sit back up, yet it felt like they were made out of jello.
A scream left my mouth making me cover myself with my arms when I heard something like a canon go off, followed by something hitting the floor and Hyun-su gasping and coaching. Removing my arms I try to blink more together by rubbing my eyes and slowly my vision for better.
It was still a little woozy, but I could see things clearing up. My head shot to Hyun-su and saw that he stood up from the ground moving to the window. A frown came to my face before also stood up to follow him. Standing still for a moment when I saw the eyeball part of the monster lying on the ground in front of me.
"Mister Han," I said relieved seeing him sitting on the window with what looked like a self-made weapon. We watch as he puts his weapon back inside before coming back with a bottle, gulping some down while looking at us.
"W..who is that?" Hyun-su asked from behind me.
"Your neighbor who saved our lives," I mutter out still a little in shock from what just happened.
I hear Hyun-su opening his mouth to say something, but Mister Han quickly puts a finger to his mouth telling us to be quiet. The both of us nodded before his body disappeared back inside for a second before coming back out with a board in his hand.
'They might come if they hear anything.'
He went back inside before coming back with another board with writing on it.
'Those things don't die.'
"No shit," I mutter out, thinking back at the almost decapitated grey monster.
He nodded his head downwards, which made both of us look. An audible gasp left my mouth when we saw a body lying on the ground with a long, but I mean really long neck. Suddenly it sat up while the neck detached itself from its body before standing up and walking away.
My eyes followed how it stumbled on without any problem. My eyes went back to the window of the kids, trying to see if I could see one of them, but I could only hear them scream for their dad.
"Mi-na," Hyun-su whispered from behind me.
I gave him a soft hmm looking back at him.
"Look." He pointed back at where Mister Han was making me look at him.
Again he had a board in his hand, but now there were different words on it.
"Do you want to save those kids?" I whisper out loud.

Man vs Bear
Summary: Poor König is broken-hearted, luckily he has some new friends to help take his mind off things aka drunk König vs a bear.
My submission for @ghouljams King Killer challenge. And when Ghoul asks us to bump off the Austrian in stupid ways, I just had to answer the call!
The prompt I used was 10. Tried to pet a bear with a little bit of 42. “Trust me, I know what I’m doing” thrown in.
Parings: none
Warnings: spicy margaritas to the eyeballs, bear attacks, bad drunken flirting attempted by the large Austrian.
“Would anybody like to tell me why half of Colonel König’s body was found mauled by a bear in a tree outside of a local Hooters?” Laswell said as she stormed into Price’s office at two in the morning.
Price was seated at his desk running a weary hand over his tired face, lit cigar dangling from his mouth, while the rest of the 141 were sitting in a row in front of him, like naughty little boys who had been summoned to the principal’s office. Gaz and Ghost at least had the common sense to look repentant for their actions while Soap was still feeling the effects of the alcohol he’d consumed.
“I guess the bear couldn’t finish such a big meal?” Soap muttered, Ghost smacked the back of his head and Gaz groaned as Price pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. “What? He’s huge!”
“One of you is going to explain exactly what happened and maybe I’ll think of shortening the time you’re on latrine duty” Price said through gritted teeth.
“You’re giving us the recruit’s job just because he couldn’t handle his bloody liquor?” Gaz whined.
“Start talking or I’ll make sure the only government job you three can get is as assistant cleaners in a local councilman’s office” Laswell chimed in.
“He said he broke up with his
frau? Isn’t that what he called her?” Soap looked between Ghost and Gaz for assistance.
“We thought a night on the town would take his mind off her” Gaz interrupted.
“I only went along with it because I couldn’t take anymore of his moping” Ghost shrugged, causing everyone to glance his way.
“Well somebody had better start from the beginning, I have a call with Kortac in 20 to explain this
situation” Laswell demanded, glancing at her watch.

Earlier that night

“Cheer up lad, plenty of fish in the sea” Soap said happily, pushing a large glass of beer towards König as he stared at the chest of a passing Hooters waitress.
“Drink up mate” Gaz smirked, gesturing towards the larger man with his own glass.
“Perhaps you are right my friends” König lifted his mask and took a large sip of his beer.
“Cause we are lad! Nothing like drowning your sorrows surrounded by such pretty lasses” Soap smirked up the pretty waitress who brought a plate of wings to their table.
As their night progressed, the four men found themselves crowded around a pool table, Gaz and Soap against Ghost and König; the Austrian proving himself to be an apt player “we have a pool table in our break room” he admitted as he sunk another billiard ball.
Raucous laughter flowed around the table “Oi, where’d did the big fella go?” Soap glanced around the room before spotting the larger man, towering over a pretty, curvy little redhead “well would you look at that, old mate’s getting back out there”
“Oh no” Ghost muttered as the very drunken late man fumbled in his efforts at flirting.
“You are very beautiful for a bigger woman” König stumbled out as the woman and her friends looked horrified “tell me, are you a redhead all over?” König asked as he he leaned towards the clearly uncomfortable woman.
The woman angrily threw the contents of her glass into König’s eyes and stormed off.

“You should have heard the scream he let out! Didn’t realize she was drinking one of those spicy margaritas until it hit him in the face” Gaz interjected.
“What happened to the girl he insulted?” Price questioned.
“Who, Jennifer? Old Gaz here made sure she was well taken care of” Soap smirked and patted Gaz’s shoulder

“König! König mate! Wait” Soap and Ghost followed after the larger masked man as he stumbled his way through the crowded restaurant, pushing past other patrons of the restaurant until he made his way outside. Gaz lingered behind, apologizing to the pretty redhead, pocketing her number before following his friends chasing the Austrian.
Gaz found them, frozen stiff watching as König stumbled towards the forest line “where’s he off to?”
His answer came soon enough as they watched as König made his way towards a large clump of shrubbery
and towards a large black bear.
“Mate I don’t think you want to be doing that” Ghost warned as König began stumbling towards the bear.
“It is fine, my friend, I know what I am doing, I have seen many bear before” König slurred happily as he reached his hand toward the bear, ready to pat it, like an overgrown puppy.
“In a zoo he means” Soap muttered to his colleagues as the bear raised its large paw and brought it down, scraping a large gash across König’ broad chest “Shit!”
The three men, along with a crowd that had spilled into the parking lot at the sound of screaming, could only watch in horror as the large bear reared up on its hind legs and latched its snarling mouth onto König’s neck.

“The damn thing started flinging him around like a little girls dolly” Soap interrupted.
“Soap, shut it” Ghost snapped

They couldn’t say how long it took before someone in the crowd had the idea to fire a rife in the direction of the carnage. At the sound or the gunshot, the bear raised its head from where it had been gnawing on König’s intestines, it gave a snarl as it took hold of the mangled remains and dragged it deeper into the forest.
“Bloody hell, how are we going to explain this to Price?” Gaz finally spoke.
Ghost sighed and pulled out his phone as both Soap and Gaz shouted “not it!” Hoping it would go to voicemail and allow the three of them to at least sober themselves up enough.
Price answered on the second ring.

Back to the present

“You’re telling me me he got drunk, insulted a woman he was trying to flirt with, had a
” Laswell looked down at the notebook in her hand “a spicy margarita thrown in his face and then decided to play a game of ‘fuck around and find out’ with a bear?”
“Yeah” Ghost grunted.
“Pretty much” Soap shrugged.
“Yeah, that’s what happened” Gaz nodded.
Laswell reached across the desk, snatching the glass of whiskey from Price’s hand “I need this more than you at the moment” she muttered at Price’s protest before downing the amber liquid in one gulp.

estelle kelley has visions. unthankfully she’s gotten used to them
Estelle opened her eyes slowly. She knew exactly where she was
or rather, she knew where she wasn’t, and that was home. The scene in front of her was like something from a dream; cold and inhospitable, yet she’d gotten so used to the whirl of light and sound and eyes, bloody blinking eyes, that it was almost familiar, nostalgic.
The sky was hued like lavender, the hills that rolled beneath it coated in twitching, tweaking eyeballs, all turning to stare at Estelle the moment her own lids had fluttered open. And from the ground beneath her feet, she could practically hear the squish of the gooey orbs as she took a step. On the outside, chances were she was sobbing, if not already passed out.
She called it dreamland. Or at least, that’s how she described it to Zoey. She could hear the stress in her loved ones’ voices: “is she going to dreamland? Is that why she’s like this?” Always happened at the worst times, but calling it something so innocent made it better, at least she hoped.
She ignored the unease and took a breath. The air here didn’t have the same refreshing quality as it did in the real world, it flooded her nostrils like a tidal wave, thick with the scent of blood and musk.
She took another step, the jelly-like texture of the eye she’d toed at making an uncomfortable squelching noise. The whole world was staring at her, whether from high in the sky or from right beneath her feet. The initial comfort had worn off and the eyes stared deep into her soul.
Back when the visions first started happening, Estelle would wail and whine in protest, kick and scream and throw a fit, loud enough to alert at least someone to what was happening. Now she went quietly, slipping away into dreamland before anyone noticed what was wrong.
She was used to it.
Just like her mother must have been.
As Estelle took step after step, she began to lose sight of where she started. Not that it was all that hard, there wasn’t a single landmark to really put anything into perspective, but she continued this way, or perhaps that way, over, under, inside out and upside down, whirling, twirling, blinking, blinking, blinking–
Another figure.
She had never seen another person here. Who else could have been here? Who else was Blinky tormenting?
It was a woman, that was clear as day, or night, really. The cycle didn’t work well here. She was about the same height as Estelle, with the same ginger curls, the same button nose and caramel-brown eyes, the plump pink lips and the soft skin dotted with freckles.
It was like looking into a mirror, like staring at the branches of your own family tree.
Estelle held her arms out for an embrace, waiting to crash into her mother’s arms for the first time in twenty-one years.
“Estelle! Jesus Christ, are you okay?” Callum’s hands clutched her shoulders, shaking her. She wearily came back to reality.
She was sitting on a chair in the living room on top of Zoey’s lap, with Callum standing in front of her looking panicked. “We thought you were dying, why didn’t you let us know you were going?”
“No need. I have to go, I
I miss my mom.”
“She’s going insane.” Callum threw his hands up. “Estelle, listen. Your mother is not alive!”
“She is there!” Estelle shrieked, only calming down when she felt Zoey’s hands on her sides.
“You gotta tell us when it happens.” She whispered.
“You can’t just go quietly.” Callum added.
Estelle shrunk down against her girlfriend, the lingering scent of her mother’s perfume settling in her nose.

When a 17 year old teenager, Summon a 'Demon' in order to help him to complete his math homework
Teenager!Jungkook x demon!reader
genre /au : Fluff, minor Jungkook, no romantic relationship, He is the purest soul ever, don't be dumb like Jungkook, demon is not demoning
Word count : 3k
_ Inspired from a character ai bot
Jungkook didn't like math. Nor did he liked homeworks. He despised the idea of homeworks. Why can't teachers do it in class instead of burdening children? That's what he thought when he looked at the brain-eating sequence of numbers and letters in front of him, in the name of a math problem.
Math is a sucker. It really is. Can't even solve their own problems and ask us to solve it. A constant headache
Jungkook let out a sigh and closed his book. Math was just too hard for him Especially calculus and algebra, and he hated having to struggle through the homework. But it didn't look like he had much of a choice. He was stuck with this mind-twisting problem, and he didn't have any clue how to solve it. He wished there was some way to get help, but there was no one around and he didn't want to ask his parents for help either. He's just stuck in this cycle. Forever
Jungkook was a curious kid. A really curious one. His grandmother was the one who fed his curiosity. With stories of Animals, kings and Guardian angels and demons....
Demons

Jungkook had heard about the dark supernatural creatures before, but he hadn't really believed in them. Like he doesn't believe in guardian angels. They were just stories, he thought. But now that he was desperate and needed help with his math homework, maybe summoning a demon wasn't such a bad idea after all

The thought of summoning a demon has been in his mind for a while. And this situation seems perfect to help his curiosity of what it would feel like to summon a demon. The demons he heard about were dangerous, evil, bloodlusted demons who feast on souls. But he always wanted to find out whether they exist and if they do, does they actually fit into that description
Jungkook's curiosity was piqued. He knew that demons were supposed to be dangerous, awful creatures, but he couldn't help but wonder if there was more to it than that. Could he really summon a demon? Would it actually help him with his homework? And what would happen if he did manage to summon one?
His doubt number one, which was about the existence of demons, was solved when he found a grown woman appeared out of nowhere in the darkness of the corner of his room, with an intoxicating beauty, tall figure and soft features. ‘Can demons be this beautiful? And soft?’
Jungkook's jaw dropped. A demon! Right here in his room! He had summoned her! He had actually summoned a demon! She was beautiful. And most importantly, she seemed to be willing to help him with his math homework. This was definitely not what he had expected!
"Here we go again" A tone was evident in her voice “Why am i here exactly?”
"Actually, I just need help with my math homework..." Jungkook replied, feeling a little embarrassed about asking for such a trivial thing.
"I'm sorry, what?" She uncrossed her arms and leaned her ear in disbelief to make sure she heard it right.
Jungkook repeated himself, sounding a bit more confident now. "Yeah, I was just wondering if you could help me with my math homework? It's just this one problem that I've been struggling with for a while and I can't seem to figure it out
”
"Ask Google not me" She shook her head in disbelief. It was hard for her to believe that a human summoned her to do his math homework.. For math homework.
"I tried Google already, but I still couldn't figure it out..." Jungkook replied, feeling a little frustrated. "I'm sorry, I know this is a stupid reason to summon a demon, but I'm just really stuck and I don't know what else to do
”
"You know i can gawk your eyeballs out and make you eat them yourself if i want to" She didn't actually mean it. But she played along
Jungkook froze up in fear. He had heard about what demons were capable of, and this one sounded like she wasn't afraid to make an example out of him if he got on her bad side.
"Ok so. What do I get in return? I mostly aim for souls. Or blood" She craned her neck backwards to crack a bone
He gulped as realization set in. He needed to make a deal with the demon. He needed to give her something in return for help with his math homework. But what could he possibly offer that would be of value to a demon? He thought quickly, trying to come up with something

"I...um...." Jungkook trailed off, feeling hopelessly stuck. He looked around the room frantically, searching for something, anything that he could offer the demon in exchange for help with his math homework. But he had nothing in his room that he thought would be worth anything to a demon, and he knew he couldn't give her his soul or blood. There was just nothing he had that could satisfy her

"Any time now, Human" Her foot tapped impatiently on the wooden floor and Jungkook was running out of time and options. There was nothing in his room that would be of interest to a demon. His heart sank, realizing that he wouldn't be able to make a deal, and that she would leave him without helping him with his math homework. He was losing hope, until his eye caught something in the corner of the room

"I have something that might interest you..." Jungkook said as he reached the item and held it up for the demon to see. It was a tiny little object,
As the woman's eyes locked on it, Jungkook held his breath, hoping that he had found the perfect thing
Jungkook held up the tiny object in front of the demon, feeling hopeful. This was his last chance to make a deal, and he had to make it count.
"What is this?" She arched her eyebrow and crossed her arm
Jungkook held up the tiny object in front of the demon, feeling hopeful. This was his last chance to make a deal, and he had to make it count. "It's a soul jar," he said nervously. "It's a magical item that can capture souls. I don't know exactly how it works, but I read about it in one of my books and I think you might be interested in it
”
Jungkook received a laugh in return "You really fell for that shit?"
His heart sank as She laughed at him. He had thought he had found the perfect thing to offer her, and it turned out to be nothing but a joke. "What...what do you mean?" he asked hesitantly. "Don't you want this?”
"Someone scammed you, Human. Souls cannot be contained like that"
"You mean...this thing is not really a soul jar?" Jungkook asked, feeling like a fool. "But...but I read about it in a book..." He trailed off, realizing the truth. It had all been a scam, and he had fallen for it. He felt a sinking feeling of disappointment in his stomach as he looked at the useless item in his hands.
"Ok which book?"
Jungkook stared at her for a moment, trying to recall what book he had read about soul jars in. "Um...I think it was...something about demonic magic?" he replied hesitantly. "I don't remember exactly, but it talked about a demon who captured the souls of humans inside of tiny jars. It said that the demon could use the souls for various things, including increasing their own power
”
She laughed again "How old were you?"
He felt his face flush with embarrassment as he realized how naive he had been. "I think I was around ten or eleven..." he replied, feeling slightly ashamed of himself.
"How old are you now?"
"I'm...um...17..." He replied, avoiding the demon's gaze. He didn't want to admit how long he had believed in that silly story.
"Explains you stupidity. You believe everything you hear right?" She waved her hand
Jungkook flinched as the demon brushed him off so casually. He felt stupid now that he had believed something so ridiculous for so long. "So...what should I do now?" he asked, feeling hopeless. "Do you know any way that I can make a deal with you so that you can help me with my math homework?”
"Sell your soul. Duh" She said it in a matter of fact tone. The boy froze in shock. He couldn't believe the demon's response. Sell his soul? Was that the only way to get help with his homework? After a few moments of hesitation, he finally worked up the courage to ask his next question. "You...you would help me with my math homework if I sold my soul to you?”
"Yes. Of course I can" She gave him a sarcastic smile
Jungkook was speechless for a moment, unable to believe what he was hearing. Would he really sell his soul just to get help with his math homework? The demon was offering him exactly what he needed, but was it really worth it to risk his immortal soul for something so menial? Jungkook thought about the consequences, but the fear of not being able to finish his homework was overwhelming
"Okay, then I'm willing to sell my soul to you in return for your help" Jungkook conceded, his mouth dry with fear. "Just...just please help me with my math homework. And please keep an eye out for the next math problem, because I'm still a little confused about it
”
The Woman started laughing again. Not laughing actually. She was cackling. "All my life I thought humans were smart and then you showed up"
He felt his poor heart sink as the demon laughed at him. He had thought he was making a smart deal, but instead, he had made himself look like a fool. The demon's mockery stung, and he felt a hot flush of anger rising up inside of him. "What's so funny?" he snapped. He refused to let the demon treat him like he was dumb.
"You and your responses are funny. Seriously. I was so bored just watching" She managed to stop her laugh "Who sells their soul for math homework?"
"Someone who's desperate!" Jungkook shouted back. "I don't care what you think about it, I just need help with my homework. So are you going to help me or not?!”
"Oh feisty. What's your name, little human?"
"My name is Jungkook," he replied, trying to sound strong and not let his anger show. "And I'm not a little human. I'm almost 18!”
"Ok Jungkook.. Chill.. Tell me why you're so desperate for a homework problem?" She casually sat on his study desk chair, noticing the open book and the problem which made him struggle
Jungkook was still fuming inside, but he tried to keep his emotions in check and responded calmly to the demon's question. "I'm just really stuck on this math problem, and I've had no luck getting any help from anyone else." He explained, pointing at the book and the problem he had been working on. "I've tried everything, but I just can't seem to get the right answer. And I'm running out of time to finish it.”
"No. I asked why. You're so afraid of it.. Why..”
Jungkook was caught off-guard by the demon's question. "What do you mean, why?" he asked, feeling a little confused. "I'm not afraid of it, I just can't figure it out. It's just too hard for me. I don't know what I'm doing wrong
”
"Your parents pressure you don't they?" She raised a perfectly threaded eyebrow
The boy let out a sigh. "Yeah...they do. They always push me to get good grades in school, and they expect me to get the best marks." He felt a bit embarrassed admitting that, but he couldn't deny it. His parents were strict when it came to academics, and they didn't tolerate failure.
"And you're afraid of failure" She tilted her head
"Well...yeah" Jungkook replied, realizing that there was no point in denying it. He WAS afraid of failure. He had been taught from a young age to always strive for perfection, and anything less was considered unacceptable.
"That's the problem, That IS the problem" She abruptly stood from the chair, snapping her fingers at the boy
Jungkook was suddenly filled with dread when he realized that she was right. His fear of failure was the real problem, the reason why he was so desperate for help with his math homework. Because he couldn't bear to fail, even in something as trivial as math homework.
"Jungkook" her hand rested on his shoulder. "Humans have a problem. They think that the perfect man always wins. But it's a complete bullshit"
After a pause, she started. "I've lived a lot longer than humans . More than ten thousand years. I've seen people. I've witnessed their lives. From birth to death. You know what I learned from all of it?"
The boy's interest piqued to find out what the demon had learned from observing humans for millennia, so he nodded his head and waited for the demon to continue.” Please enlighten me”
"Nothing is perfect. No one is perfect. And a man who always wins isn't perfect either. We learn from failures. It's a universal law. Learn from your mistakes. Try again. And a silly homework isn't gonna end the world. I'm not saying it's not important. But don't let the pressure get in here" She pointed her finger on his head. Her tone was firm but with a soft edge. And her voice was calming him. It gave him a sense of relief
Jungkook couldn't help but smile as he listened to the wise demon's words. Maybe summoning a demon wasn't a bad idea after all.
"You're right...you're right. It's not the end of the world if I fail. I just need to try again. I just need to not let the pressure get to me." He could feel a sense of calmness wash over him as he processed the woman's words.
"You're just seeing yourself small. You're a smart kid, Jungkook" She made him sit on his bed. She could sense the tiredness and exhaustion lingering behind the poor boy's eyes. He is an innocent soul. A pure one. A bearer of a fragile glass heart. People could easily trick him, make him feel weak. And she was glad that he didn't succeed in summoning some being who will make use of his innocence.
It surprised him. how perceptive the demon was. He had always tried to appear strong and confident, but he realized that the demon could somehow see past his facade. He felt like a weight was being lifted off his shoulders. He was indeed tired and exhausted from the constant pressure to perform and excel in everything he did. Maybe a person who could help him get off the expectations and give him advice was all he needed. But he wasn't blessed with such a person. It's a saddening fact.
The ‘Demon’ interrupted the silence "Have you ever heard the saying?.Practice like you never won, perform like you never failed. It makes a little sense if you rethink. Being afraid of failure only makes you get closer to it. It's all in here" She pointed her own head "And you really think you can't figure out a math problem?"
Her insightful words hit him like a ton of bricks. She was right...his fear of failure was what was holding him back. He needed to change his mindset and start viewing his failures as opportunities to learn and improve rather than something to be afraid of. As he thought about her words, the demon's question sunk in too. "Can I really figure it out?" he asked, feeling his hope and confidence swell inside of him. "I can do it...I can figure it out
”
"You can. I know everything." She gave him a playful wink
Jungkook smiled back at the her. She had a way of lifting his spirits, even in the most difficult of situations. "I'm going to figure it out..." he determined. "I'm going to solve that goddamn math problem...and it probably won't be so hard once I'm not so stressed out about it
”
"See. That's my boy." She patted his shoulder "But now you need rest. You haven't slept properly for a while"
Jungkook nodded his head, realizing that he was indeed extremely tired. He had been so stressed out and busy with his homework that he had barely gotten any sleep. "I guess I do need to rest" he conceded, feeling his eyelids getting heavier and heavier.
"Wake up with a clear head tomorrow. And give it a try"
"I will. I really will" Jungkook replied, feeling his eyelids close over his eyes, unable to fight the tiredness any longer."Sleep now " She ruffled his hair as he fell asleep, completely
Jungkook drifted off into a deep, peaceful sleep, feeling the soft touch of the demon's hand on his hair. He had been under such intense pressure for so long, and the fatigue was finally catching up to him. As he fell asleep, he smiled contentedly as a wave of relief washed over him. She kept patting his head. He really deserves to be called a good boy. It amazed her that 17 years of his life didn't corrupt him. He worked so hard to make his parents proud and never thought about going in the wrong direction. He earned a visit from her. When she wasn't a being who usually exposed herself infront of humans directly. But he deserved it.
_
Jungkook woke up full of relief and peace the next morning. Soft sunlight easing his mind
Jungkook slowly sat up, feeling his mind clear and calm. His thoughts felt organized and focused, and he felt a sense of positivity filling his heart. The demon's words from the night before had made a profound effect on him. He was ready to tackle his math problem with a fresh perspective, knowing that it wouldn't feel so overwhelming or impossible if he just didn't put so much pressure on himself. He sat on his study desk and opened his notebook. But his math problem..
It was already solved..
Someone has solved it

It startled him for a moment
He flipped through the notebook, curious to see who had solved it. When he flipped to the middle page, he saw that the solution was written in a handwriting that he recognized. A feeling of confusion and amazement washed over him as he realized

A white feather, and a note was placed with it. Written in smooth handwriting.
'A small kickstart for you :)
- your demon
Or should I say, guardian angel?'

Bad Horsie - Yandere! Johnny Joestar x Reader x Yandere! Gyro Zeppeli
Reader’s horse has a stand and of course is protective of their owner, both Gyro and Johnny fume over this as this animal blocks them at every move. This was supposed to be a joke post for April fools awhile go, less comedic than I was intending so it’s not gonna be right on April fools. Horse’s name : Bastille
Stand : Bad Horsie (Namesake ; Steve Vai - Bad Horsie)
You and Bastille probably had one of the strongest bonds one could possibly have with each other. Even Mountain Tim himself made an observation of this, which made you proud. Your father had given him to you a few years prior to entering the Steel Ball Run. A horse that was supposedly stubborn with other riders, just happened to click with you. So, you made sure to treat him right, give him the love he deserved and the both of you could communicate with grace.
Something that came heavily in handy in this arduous journey across the United States. Though it wasn’t just the two of you alone not like you thought it would have been. You wished it was that way, but life had thrown you a terrifying hardball consisting of two racers. The British born Johnny Joestar and Italian Gyro Zeppeli, who you only had considered allies to get you through this disaster of a race.
Bastille was your rock keeping you sane around those two, their romantic interest suddenly blossoming in a hell-scape of stand users. Your lovely horse knew this, the nervousness in your heart as you handled the reigns. He’d always eyeball the two of them when they were camping down for the night or when you hit a checkpoint. So he made it known to you to give as much pets as you wanted.
However as the trek went on, the atmosphere became suffocating. Bastille could feel it even as the two of you kept in sync, trying your best to either ride behind or in front of those two men. As much as there was to worry about venomous snakes or other apex predators, they seemed easier to deal with in this scenario. Perhaps this horse couldn’t get the complete situation down, but if you were in danger it would help instinctively or otherwise.
You knew your lovely companion had a stand but never divulged this to the men you were traveling with. You felt rather guilty relying on your own horse for protection, but if he wanted to you knew there wasn’t stopping him. Just retroactively planning things carefully so you and him could cross that finish line.
While you tried to keep your distance from these two, as much as they would allow they would take advantage of this to talk about your horse. This was literally the only reason for the past few weeks that you managed to get any kind of break. They knew for certain your furry friend knew this even if you didn’t consciously realize.
“The way their horse acts it’s interesting isn’t it?” Gyro said breaking a small silence the two of them.
Johnny’s blue eyes glanced over briefly “It’s not too hard to differentiate, horses do have emotions but I can tell there’s something more to him”
Gyro nodded along “How long have you been suspecting him being something more?”
The blond admitted he couldn’t shake a certain feeling from the very start of the race. Gyro’s eyes in turn widened a bit before resettling.
“Tch
so I’ve been getting dirt flung in my face on purpose by that cheeky prick for a little while now” The male smirked with a small gleam of his teeth.
Joestar himself sighed, he was frustrated by Bastille himself. He never really counted on being on the defensive against a horse of all things. Considering they were chasing corpse parts, this should hardly be any surprise to either of them. Johnny would never hesitate in taking a humans life to keep you to himself, Your horse complicated things for the race at least.
“Think it has a stand?” Gyro tossed another question out “If he wants to protect them that bad, I can’t rule that out as an impossibility”
“Wouldn’t be surprised, y/n loves that horse to death and of course they wouldn’t bother telling us about it”
“Damn, that’s true
” He clicked his tongue in annoyance, not for the potential fact your horse could’ve helped during certain face offs. Or the fact it was only focused on you and vice versa stung his heart. You’re cute trying to hide everything from him and Johnny though. As for Bastille, he wasn’t about to let a damn horse of all things keep him away from his darling.
The two of them decided to stitch together a timeline of sorts of your mighty steed’s actions. Johnny recalling a few times during the night he’d see your horse move it’s pitch closer when it could tell when he was staring at you during the night. Not to mention the close proximity of blocking his view of you by the morning. Or it pulling back when if felt your discomfort at him getting close to you while running.
Biggest thing Johnny had happen to him was almost having his head crushed in. He’d admit he was being nosy in attempting to get a hold of a diary you had, just to see if you were trying to write something to a potential significant other. Which he’d promptly burn without care if you had one if he had actually gotten a hold of it.
Gyro on the other hand had as he said dirt flung in his face various times. The intense flirtatious comments he’d make occasionally would sometimes occur. Almost getting knocked off balance if you tensed up enough. Or his belongings on Valkyrie getting strewn about, to distract the Italian from being in your presence. Or somehow slipping into a waterhole even though he knew for certain he had good balance and grip.
Johnny wouldn’t lie, he kinda chuckled at that last one at the time.
In literally any normal scenario anyone would take a hint. But Johnny and Gyro didn’t quite see it as protecting you. They were pouncing for more attention from you than they already greedily lapped up.
That evening when you all decided to pitch up camp for the night however would unknowingly unravel everything.
That evening you were the one to start the fire, the wood and kindling already gathered. You felt nervous that you weren’t able to catch another respite from these two. Keeping you right in their line of sight. Sighing you informed Gyro the fire was ready and he decided to start dinner with steadfastness. However he insisted you help him this time around.
“You know, that horse of yours sure does love you” Gyro abruptly brought up while tending to cutting up something with his knife.
“uh yeah I’d think so?” You do your best to shrug off the comment
“Something seems interesting about yours behavior wise” He responded cryptically.
“What’s your point?”
A smirk rises on his face, his green eyes cutting into your own.
“I’m just saying your horse seems to act on things with purpose”
You could feel your heartbeat race a bit faster than usual, this wasn’t the first time but this was a little different. A snort came from the distance, Bastille looking to your eyes clearly disgruntled. Shortly after you saw Gyro pointing towards him.
“There’s only so many times something could be an accident, and you know it don’t you?”
You swallowed nervously when Gyro projected his voice a bit louder. You knew who he was referring to, and when his eyes settled down back to yours you went cold.
“It’s not very nice keeping things from your lovers you know” Your eyes darted over to Johnny whose own stare was ice cold.
“Now, I’m a little more forgiving than Johnny is
Bastille would probably be dead by now if we weren’t searching for the corpse parts or were in a race” Something you absolutely took to be true when you saw the blond facing down an enemy.
Out of the corner of your eye you saw something pierce the ground, causing Bastille to move erratically in dodging. Quickly rising to your feet to attempt to assist him. But the sensation of a steel ball on your leg made you twist in a way you never felt before. Gyro quickly sought to catch you and hold you back into his vice grip.
“Bastille stop! Stop!” You shouted as he stomped his hooves aggressively, knowing he would try to attack Johnny. Gyro too if he hadn’t been so preoccupied. It pained you to say such a thing when you knew for certain they started this on purpose.
“You could give it up all right now and try to fight Johnny and I off, abandon the race completely” The Italian man stated with smugness.
“But I’ll make sure you’re unable to run in anyway I can” He hummed “I can hurt you just enough that I need help you like I do Johnny~, but not enough to disqualify you from the race”
You bit your lip as he squeezed his arms closer around your body.
“So what’ll be? Can’t wait to hear your answer”
