I think you made a post once about the TRio's love languages once, what would you say the coordinators' are?

my TRio one was super in depth and because the coordinators have Less Material this one probably won’t be as meaty. because love languages are about how one gives love as well as prefers to receive it, i’m tending towards that because we see how they show affection moreso than how they respond to it.

May - Quality Time: this one was hard to pin down for me initially but now that I have it in my head, I think it’s the safest bet. May finds joy in experiences, and I think the best thing a person could do for her/what she’d be most likely to share with her loved ones is those adventures. She’s always excited to take her friends on dates to new food places or shopping areas, and half the fun of May’s Expeditions is including them in those moments. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that May immediately sidled up to Ash after approximately half a day on her own, and fell in love with pokemon as soon as she had some to devote all her time to.

Drew - Gifts: Obvious choice but correct nonetheless. Drew is the definition of calm waters running deep--there is, at any given moment, a lot of introspection going on inside his head, and he’s wise beyond his years, but articulating those feelings & emotions to the people he cares about isn’t exactly his strong suit, which is why he stays fairly quiet and uses tokens instead. There is rarely a point in spending breath on words when a rose will suffice for May, when a battle will suffice for Ash. He speaks his fondness for people wordlessly but loudly nonetheless.

Harley - GOD, MOST OF THEM?: I’m having SO much trouble pinning him down to just one, mostly because Harley gives us a lot of fake affection and it’s hard to swat all that out of the way and find those genuine moments. Acts of service comes to mind first when I think about how he threatened Team Rocket and crashed May’s sulk fest all in the name of cheering her up, and babysat them in the dark pretty much unbeknownst to May. It also comes to mind when I think about how he lent Jessie his pokemon and worked his ass off to win her a contest, or how he volunteered to work at the Saffron Pokecenter in gratitude. But then words of affirmation also comes to mind, thinking about how much he hypes Jessie up in both the truce episode and in AG187 where he’s telling her she has to come to Johto with all of them because she’s such an amazing coordinator. BUT THEN ALSO physical touch because Harley is physically incapable of being around a person without holding onto them in some manner. BUT THEN ALSO QUALITY TIME BECAUSE HE IS CONSTANTLY JUST... GOING OUT OF HIS WAY TO WIGGLE INTO HIS FRIENDS’ LIVES? APPEARING AT RANDOM?? HELLO I AM HERE TO PLAY??? I think acts of service probably has the most points here but Harley’s just a very affectionate person gfhdghfs.

Solidad - Words of Affirmation: Solidad has established herself from the get-go as someone who likes to sit down and have long heart-to-hearts with her friends, and when we’re privy to one of those conversations she come across as a person who speaks sagely and warmly to those she cares about. This same episode is dotted with her praising aloud other coordinators she’s impressed by, in Harley’s case literally showering him with compliments backstage. We aren’t given a lot of her, but hilariously enough I’m 100% sure of this. Solidad is someone who loves with words, with conversations, with communication.

solidad: like the easy answer here is slowbro. like she sees a second, slightly more poisonous slowbro and is like oh that is my Friend. but i can also rly see her w Mr. Rime!!! that dude belongs in a contest hall

2. A Lycanroc:

may: unevolved rockruff (shush its not cheating)

drew: dusk

harley: midnight

solidad: midday

you could flip drew and solidad (dusk goes really well with solidad because she’s like 95% Sunset Colours) but i think midday just fits her personality/aesthetic more? dusk just seems more Right for drew because it requires very specific care to evolve right and it has those striking green eyes. and i just kinda reflexively associate drew w/ sunsets because a lot of his most meaningful scenes take place at dusk sdfgsf.

3. a traditional starter:

may: tepig!!!!! i have no basis for this other than its ears look like her bandana (though i guess grookey and scorbunny would work for that too sfhfg)

drew: DARTRIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like he never evolves it into decidueye it stays a dartrix fghfghf

may: my kinnie fingers are physically resisting typing this. i dont want to type this. i am like sitting here psyching myself up you know what we’ll do this one last.

drew: grass!! i know he looks the part but a lot of people HC that drew likes spending time in nature because he grew up in LaRousse which is, like, a fully roboticized city. there’s cute little parks dotting it but basically everything is grey and futurecore and automated and the General Consensus is that drew was desperate to get out and just BE in the natural world, so even though he only has one grass-type in canon, i think a gym paradise for him would just be decorated in hanging vines and rose gardens. 

harley: quintessential dark-type trainer. literally could not be moreso. already wearing the outfit. regardless, will make 5 more. this is not a question.

solidad: i’m settled on ice, i think! like its between that and flying gvdhgd. ice specialists tend to either be rigid and unmoving or have that wild air of grace/beauty about them, and solidad has that in spades tbh! something about ice specialists just feels, like, untouchable in the same way solidad does to a lot of coordinators meeting her for the first time, so that’s the General Vibe im getting.

drew: my heart is REALLY saying xerneas for this one. cannot elaborate. thats just what i keep coming back to.

harley: legit difficult because i could see him with a LOT of ultra beasts but i think it’s hoopa. if it’s hoopa he can just get all those ultra beasts anyways. which is too much power for harley of all people to have so i’ve decided his hoopa doesn’t do shit except bake donuts with him and then eat all the donuts. the donuts are not half bad. 

solidad: ARTICUNO BABY. again cannot elaborate. heart just says articuno

harley has SO much love for other coordinators he sees potential in and he so badly desires, like everyone else in the contest fam, to mentor them. but he has a super fucking adverse reaction to talent when it comes with a lack of confidence, and thats why he hates may so much in the beginning, because beyond the bad first impression she makes on him, she’s really fucking talented. he thinks she’s amazing but she talks like she’s an absolute amateur and his idiot cactus brain can’t comprehend that. he thinks its some kind of cutesy facade to gain the upper hand, either that or it just grates on him because he’s frustrated with her lack of awareness.

it’s noooo shock that he starts really loosening up on his shitty treatment of her when she starts slinging shit back in his face, until eventually he’s fighting for her and to keep her spirits high. harley’s... honestly very extroverted and paternal? you can see it most in how he treats jessie, but it’s absolutely there in how he interacts with drew & may too.
