I’m looking for a fanfic that I read YEARS ago! I don’t know what platform it was on, because someone had printed it out and put it in a binder. But all I remember is that it was inukag and Kagome was a servant (slave?) to the inu family, and maybe someone was a king? There may have been a fire or some sort of tragedy at the beginning too, but other than that I can’t remember anything else
Hello Nonnie!
The Fic Finder team would like to thank you for making us all feel our collective ages in realizing the fic you were looking for is fourteen-years-old and yet every member of the team was already out of high school (or even college).

Slave To Your Heart by Gywnne (M)
Kagome, a great priestess, is captured and given to a demon prince for his birthday. She curses fate, her treacherous sister, and the entire evil demon race...but what happens when she sees that not all demons are evil? How will her views change when ultimately she must rely on her master to help her to return home?

Round 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda for Gwynne:
I mean were it not for Chef chickening out, she would have fully succeeded in engineering a plan to kill absolutely every powerful person in the world of Galavant except for Galavant and Isabella and Sid who hadn't arrived yet but she later gets on just fine with.
My money’s on Gwynne. She’s got the brains and ruthlessness to carry out schemes while also being sincere enough to form alliances that won’t betray her, and being a servant means others will underestimate her until it’s too late
Gywnne already thinks she's in GOT tbh. Her poisoning plot is very red wedding. She failed because she's in Galavant.
Gwyn is smart enough to avoid situations that would put her in danger. She keeps allies at arms length and avoids enemies, can throw down if she needs to but knows to do that as a last resort, and most importantly: knows when to hit the fucking bricks.
Honestly I think Gwynne is crafty enough and she's in a low enough position people won't expect her (or suspect her). She's not royalty or a fighter
Not only would Gwynne survive GOT, she would win it. She DID win it when she nearly killed every significant character and threat to her, she only failed because Chef was in Galavant and not GOT. (But a reminder that she would then have killed Madalena, another of the people's top choices for winner here. I don't think she'd bother taking out Tad Cooper because he's nice but there's good reasons to assume he'd die in a GOT world.)
Propaganda for Tad Cooper:
In bearded dragon form no one would bother with him since he's nonthreatening. In dragon form he'd be a target but he's also a dragon and breathes fire so he'd certainly be able to fight back. It's established that Galavant has killed a dragon, so clearly there is an in-universe way to kill dragons but it's also told as a brag so it's got to be difficult at least.
tad cooper’s gonna win solely because he isn’t enough of an apparent threat for anyone to kill on GOT until he’s grown up
I think tad cooper’s gonna win solely because I SUPER BELIEVE IN YOU TAD COOPER!
Tad Cooper is a big target by nature of being a goddamn dragon. Everyone and their mother would be coming up with a strategy to take him out. What's worse, he's a loyal dragon--more specifically, he's loyal to Absolute Buffoon™ King Richard. By nature of Richard being a figure in power many would want deposed and his biggest piece of protection being a living WMD that Richard's enemies would be planning to take out first, I'm afraid Tad Cooper is toast.
We've got to remember that Tad Cooper isn't a dragon that no one is after, he's either a totally defenseless little creature that no one's after or he's a threatening dragon that everyone would be after. And even in his defenseless and unthreatening state, he's probably in the blast zone of any attacks on Richard since he's kept in Richard's coat, and let's be real, Richard would be being attacked so much.
He nearly did die in the finale of Galavant when Wormwood smacks him from Richard's hand, he just survives because it's Galavant not GOT.

You know it’s killing you right? This sadness.”
Seungcheol wasn’t judging his friend, and it was never his intention either, but he couldn’t help feeling like trash for trying to force himself into his friend's thoughts. He just wished he could go into their mind and pluck away at all the bad memories.
A loud scoff resonated through the room, forcing Seungcheol back into reality.
“Cheolie. I’m fine.”
Their words came out weak and a piercing silence followed after their sentence.
“Seriously, don’t worry about me. I’m still truckin’ along.”
The words were hollow. Just silly noises to distract Seungcheol from his concerns. The worst thing was that it almost worked.
Seungcheol wanted so badly to believe his friend, he really did. The desperation for things to be good threatened to overwrite any rational thought. If he needed to pretend, so be it. He would be happy to oblige.
But when he saw the too-dark under eyes and the terrifyingly prominent lines of cheekbones, he knew make-believe was impossible. His friend was eroding and if he didn’t intervene it was going to eat them alive.
“You need to listen to me. Sooner or later this isn’t going to be something you can joke about. You stopped going to therapy into the first year of grieving. You gave yourself no time to heal. It was straight to business, class, work, responsibilities.”
He regretted it. The words came out too harsh and Seungcheol felt like an asshole. The only response he received was silence. His friend avoided eye contact and remained silent.
“I-uh.” They stuttered over their words as they stood. “I gotta go-”
This was it, this was the moment his childhood friend realized they didn’t want him around anymore.
“Y/N, wait!”
Tumblr media
December 29
Seungcheol’s phone blared through his bedroom. For the past four days he was waking up to his ringtone and a list of missed call notifications. Rolling over, he ignored the phone as he pressed his face into his pillow. After finding the bag in the river he shut himself in his room.
He used the excuse of needing to think so that he could stay awake late at night, hoping that his friend would call or text. It was a fantasy that he knew he had to throw away, but he didn’t have the willpower to bring himself back to reality.
His phone rang again and with a groan he swiped it off his nightstand and answered.
“Hello?” His voice was rough and in desperate need of water.
“Hi. May I speak to Seungcheol Choi?” The voice was feminine and unfamiliar.
“This is he.” He replied.
“My name is Gywnn Harris, I’m a detective working with the local police department.” Her tone was polite and calm. “I’m calling to inform you that I am leading the investigation of the disappearance of your friend, Y/N L/N. If you’re able I would appreciate it if you could give me any information before their disappearance.”
Seungcheol sat up in his bed and leaned against the headboard. “I’d be more than happy to give anything that would help with the investigation. Should I see you at the station?”
“That would be ideal, anytime before noon is best.”
“Alright, I’ll be there shortly.” Seungcheol stood from his bed and hung up the call after exchanging goodbyes.
There was a moment of hesitation as he turned his attention to a water damaged, leather, messenger bag. After his brother found it in the river, Seungcheol took it upon himself to deliver it to the police. But upon seeing its contents he decided against it.
He unlatched the flap of the messenger bag and fished out a small sketchbook. The pages were filled with sketches of nature: trees, flowers, and animals, specifically birds. Among the drawings were entries, poems and short stories.
Memories.
Seungcheol flipped to a random page and read one of the poems.
My shoes feel like they are made of cement. Every step is heavy and slow. One misplaced step and I’ll sink Into the undertow
Both of the friends he lost had an interest in the arts, a painter and photographer, but the one art they had in common was poetry. Seungcheol could never bring himself to pick up a pen to draw or write and he only took pictures of food and his family. He was always more of an observer. He read his friends poems, studied the paintings and admired the photos. Now that both of them were gone there was no more creativity.
The world was growing gray around him and it was suffocating.
Seungcheol closed the journal and tucked it back into the bag.
“This is ridiculous.” He muttered to himself as he hid the evidence under his bed.
Tumblr media
The police department wasn’t far from his family’s residence, just a short drive into town. Life had returned to the buildings as Christmas had ended, no reason for the shops to be closed anymore. Thankfully the police station wasn’t busy.
As Seungcheol entered the station, he observed his surroundings. Everyone was working at a steady pace, mingling or organizing stray papers. He wasn’t surprised, a stolen bike or simple vandalism was the most exciting thing these small town cops were offered. Even then, those incidents only happen once every few months.
He approached the front desk where an older woman with mousy brown hair and wire framed glasses sat, looking over some papers in her hand. She perked up when he noticed him before her.
“Good morning. I’m looking for Detective Harris?” Seungcheol kept his tone friendly.
The woman took note of Seungcheol’s question and after filing away a paper, she stood, pointing to the back of the room.
“Detective Harris is usually at her desk, it’ll be on the left side of the room, dear.” Her voice was pleasant but raspy with age.
Seungcheol gently smiled and nodded as he thanked the woman. He swiftly made his way in the direction of Detective Harris’s desk, not wanting to waste any time. As he scanned the name plates of the desks he stopped at one that read: Det. G. Harris
The woman sitting at the desk had her nose nearly pressed to the monitor, a blue glow reflecting off of her skin. Her black hair was choppy and tied back in a messy bun, a few pieces sticking out and obscuring her face. She looked up from her screen as Seungcheol approached. A smile spread on her lips as she stood.
She held out her hand. “You must be Seungcheol Choi, nice to meet you!” There was a brassy quality to her voice that the phone wasn’t able to pick up, she sounded older than she looked.
Seungcheol reciprocated the handshake. “Please, just Seungcheol. Cheol if it’s too hard to pronounce.”
“Nonsense! My grandmother is Korean, I’m familiar with the language.” She pointed to a chair behind Seungcheol. “Pull up a seat. This will just be a few questions, shouldn’t take too long.”
Seungcheol did as he was told and obediently dragged a chair toward Detective Harris’s desk.
“Alright.” She started to say as she pulled out a notebook and pen. “We’ll start simple. When was the last time you saw your friend?”
“Christmas Eve. I spent most of the afternoon with them. I’d say it was around four in the evening when I last saw them.” Seungcheol was detailed in his response. “We didn’t talk after that, I sent a text at midnight, but they didn’t even open it.”
When Seungcheol’s speaking faded into silence the only thing that was heard was the scribbling of pen on paper. After another moment of writing Detective Harris met Seungcheol’s gaze again.
“Did they say anything odd when you two were hanging out?”
Seungcheol had to think about his answer. It was the usual banter and Christmas Eve isn’t usually a happy time for the two of them so anything would appear bleak.
“Nothing out of the ordinary.” It was a half truth. His friend was usually on the gloomier side, but nothing they said alerted him to anything dangerous.
“Okay.” Harris responded as she continued writing. “Was there anyone in Y/N’s life that had a want to harm them?”
The question took Seungcheol off guard. He thought about the people that surrounded his friend’s life. There were coworkers, but not many friends and the only family they had was their father.
“They uh- didn’t have many friends. It was really only me and their father. A few people they worked with at the local cafe, but other than that, there weren’t many people they talked to.”
More scribbling followed by a moment of stillness. Detective Harris took a breath before she spoke.
“I spoke with Y/N’s father yesterday. He said his child struggled with depression, did you know this?”
Seungcheol sighed and pinched his nose bridge as he felt a dull ache in his forehead. “Yeah- Yes, I knew about that. I spoke with them about it often.”
He was hoping to keep his friend’s mental health hidden from the detective, but daddy dearest soiled that plan.
“Were they contemplating their life?”
Seungcheol snapped his eyes back to Detective Harris, his expression must have been a sight to behold because even the detective appeared as though she regretted the question.
“No.” He spoke in an even tone, voice low. “They may have had their ups and downs, but they were never suicidal.”
Another lie, but Seungcheol didn’t care. He wanted to make sure that the police would search for his friend, not a corpse.
Tumblr media
The new year brought no new evidence and no closure to Seungcheol. Every day passed with more anxiety and less sleep. Detective Harris had no new leads and each conversation between himself and her had the continuous connotation that his friend committed suicide.
He took each day with a grain of salt and a heavy heart. Working behind the counter of his family’s hardware shop became mundane, he had no enthusiasm or energy to help his father and brother with any in-home repairs that needed to be done. His friend’s father hasn’t been much help either. Seungcheol had been visiting, bringing food his mother made over to feed the man but the conversations were bland and many things were left unsaid.
Sitting at the dinner table, nearly two weeks since losing them, his family ate in relative silence aside from utensils hitting the plates. Though his family could be loud during dinner, bringing up old stories or things they heard around town, these days it was hollow. Most times as of recently Seungcheol brought his food to his room, eating as he read over their journal night after night.
There was no way his friend would have killed themself, he had no doubt that they didn’t. They had only lost their spark, lost in the grief that they didn’t let themself process and instead pushed it aside to busy their mind and body.
His mother had turned on the TV to fill the void tonight, letting the local news play without much thought.
“ Tonight, we tell you with heavy hearts that evidence regarding the missing person’s case for Y/N L/N has surfaced.”
His heart stopped. His family visibly paused hearing the broadcaster’s words.
As he raised his head, tired eyes locking on the screen, he watched the scene change to Detective Harris standing along the river, much further down than he was with his brother those two weeks ago.
“Hello everyone, this is Detective Gwynn Harris. I have been the lead investigator regarding the L/N case and tonight I bring not so great news. At 6:30 tonight, the department received an anonymous call stating that they found a bag belonging to the victim with an empty bottle of prescription painkillers and a series of poems that it seems they wrote themselves. Upon further investigation when the team arrived, there were pictures folded within the pages of Seokmin Lee who was a close friend to the victim.” Harris sighed, her face clearly showing despair yet she held it together. A second camera was zooming in on the bag in question. Seungchoel had seen it days prior on the floor of their room.
“ The department and I will be taking this evidence and releasing it back to the family once everything is collected. With this new evidence, we are ruling this missing person’s case a suicide. I send my condolences to their family, friends and loved ones, thank you.”
The scene changed once more, the news reporter sitting up straighter and reading off the papers before her. “ Two years ago we reported on the missing person Seokmin Lee. The case was a town tragedy seeing he was said to be a sunshine to everyone he met. No body was recovered however a vigil was held for him and tonight we heard from Detective Harris where the circumstances were similar. That is all we have for-”
He couldn’t hear it any longer, his blood was boiling. He needed to see their father.
“Cheol wait-” His mother’s words fell on deaf ears, barely getting his shoes on before grabbing his keys and wallet.
Speeding was the least of his concern when he reached his friend’s childhood home. The lights in the living room were on, he had half a mind to bust the door down and demand to know what was going on. He had been at their house that week and went through some of their things. He knew that bag was kicked under their desk since the strap had snapped over time and it couldn’t be worn outside anymore.
Seungcheol marched up to the door and banged his fist against it, jaw tense, muscles rigid. When the door opened, his friend’s father was shocked to see him, words barely seeming to sputter out.
“Oh- Cheol. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner, I just got the call-”
“That’s bullshit and you know it.” Venom laced his words, chest raising and falling in deep breaths to keep the anger within him at bay. “What did you do?”
Bewildered, the older gentleman took a step back, “I don’t know what you are talking about, Seungcheol.”
“I asked; what did you do?” He repeated, staring daggers into the other. “You and I both know they haven’t used that bag in years, even before Seokmin- Even before everything happened. It was tossed aside in their room and I even pointed it out to you in some sorry attempt at a joke that they never threw it away.”
Seungcheol was outraged, so much so that he was calm. Deadly calm.
He stepped inside and shut the door behind himself, watching as their father stepped back.
“Do you think I’m an idiot? Do you think I would just believe that crap that Harris spouted about on TV?” His nostrils flared in anger. “What are you trying to play at?! What kind of parent purposefully makes it look like their child killed themselves?!”
The yell caught the other man off guard. He held up his hands in defense. The facade he put up faltered.
“Cheol, you don’t understand it all, it's complicated.”
“Complicated? Complicated?! That you are faking their death?! You planted that and called it in yourself! Don’t even try to lie to me!”
“You don’t understand the forces at play, Cheol! I didn’t have a choice!”

hi! this is sir gywnn! her name is Guinevere, her nickname is Gwen, and her title is Sir Gwynn. uhhh yeah! i think her role in the gsa is pretty self explanatory. uhhhh sir arthur is her husband. i think this was all fairly obvious. there is no uxoricide to be seen here, no sir.

Guinevere and Sir Arthur!
I would've gone with a more lovey-dovey pose, but they seem much more like a battle couple than anything. I had fun with these two despite Arthur being almond shaped lol.

The National Labor Relations Board is poised to release a number of decisions in the next two weeks with the potential to significantly alter the nation’s labor doctrine in favor of unions, as Democratic board member Gywnne Wilcox’s term draws to a close later this month. The cases, which have been fully briefed, are part of an effort NLRB General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo outlined two years ago to overturn roughly 50 board precedents. The board has already adopted several of her desired changes to labor law, including protections for workers using profanity and limiting handbook provisions that could interfere with employees’ rights to organize. Wilcox, a former union lawyer who has served on the board since 2021, is up for confirmation in the Senate, but lawmakers didn’t bring her renomination to a vote before the August recess. Her current term will end Aug. 27.

Before I jump into talking about my current read and my thoughts on it, I just want us to all take a moment and appreciate how pretty my Kobo Libra Colour is. I love that I can post colored covers and not need to photoshop most of them now. 😍
⚔️⚔️⚔️
✨️✨️ Currently Reading ✨️✨️
One of my current reads right now is The Daughters' War by Christopher Buehlman. I have been craving a high/epic fantasy and decided to dive into this arc.
I have had Christopher's book-The Blacktongue Thief, on my tbr for a while now and wanted to read that one sometime this year. It's been just sitting there on my eReader, eager to be read.
With that said, The Daughters' War is a prequel to The Blacktongue Thief, so I'm not feeling lost as I read this book.
With The Daughters' War, we follow Galva. Galva is such a fun character to follow because she is set in her ways, stubborn, caring, and hilarious. She wants to prove to her three brothers that she belongs in fighting for the war. Speaking of the war, there is an infestation of Goblins, and it's the humans vs. Goblins.
I'm not super far into this book, but I'm excited to see where this book takes me and how Galva nativgates with this war and deals with the invasion of Goblins. I feel that Galva is going to find that not everything is black and white and have to decide what to cherish, how to grieve, and what is good/evil.
If you are a Brandon Sanderson, John Gywnne, James Islington, and a Mark Lawrence fan with the amazing storytelling, the humor, and grit, then you will love this.
I'll post another update on my thoughts or just post a review once finished since this book is so good.

Completed my first read of 2024 tonight! As promised, I'm tracking my reading/ratings of each book as I finished them in 2024 here with you all! I will be tracking all of my book reading ratings and thoughts with #halislibrary if you would like to block the tag/don't want to see these!
The Hunger of the Gods by John Gwynne
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Completed: January 3, 2025
BOOK DETAILS
Book 2 of 3
High fantasy/epic adventure world
625 pages of actual reading
It's written by John Gywnne which is reason enough to read it
The third and final installment is supposed to be coming out in 2024, but remains unnamed so I'm not entirely sure
READ IF YOU LIKE:
Action sequences
A lot of monsters, lore and gods
Norse mythology in general
Tales of vengeance, honor and blood debts
Difficult character journeys/characters who struggle a lot to reach their goal
Extensive world-building but easily digestible - would be easier if you're familiar with Norse mythology already
Multiple POVs for narration
Strong female characters
Angry Mommy Who Wants Her Child and Revenge
Gods with petty sibling rivalries
THINGS THAT BOTHERED ME:
My copy had a ton of printing errors that I found very distracting. There were over 20 misplaced commas, quotation marks, spacing issues and in one instance a character was named entirely wrong (as in they referenced the wrong character in the sentence) so I found that weird and wildly distracting but it was obviously manageable/didn't impact the actual story - might trip up slow readers/anyone who struggles with reading.
A little bit of Middle Book Syndrome. They Go A Lot of Places and Then More Places and Do A Lot of Things But Not A Lot Happens. Think of all the walking and stopping and doing of Lord of the Rings.
Every time a character almost wins, they either actually lose or immediately suffer something else. This is fine mostly, but can be really frustrating when something you've been waiting to happen for over 600 pages goes wrong. This is a very personal issue, I get frustrated easily.

Book asks!
🧾What is the most memorable book ending you’ve ever read? Did it leave you satisfied or wanting more? 📗If you could have a conversation with any author, living or deceased, who would it be and what would you ask them? 📘Are there any book series that you’ve been meaning to start but haven’t gotten around to yet? Which ones are they?
🧾What is the most memorable book ending you’ve ever read? Did it leave you satisfied or wanting more?
I think I've gotta say this is Last Argument Of Kings by Joe Abercrombie. The feeling I was left with upon ending that book is hard to put into words. Judging by my huge collection of all the rest of Joe Abercrombie's books I think it's safe to say it left me both satisfied and wanting more haha
📗If you could have a conversation with any author, living or deceased, who would it be and what would you ask them?
I mean it feels almost cliché to say, but I have to go with J.R.R. Tolkien. The idea of just sitting down with the guy over a cup of tea and discussing the world building and characters of Middle Earth, that'd be the dream
📘Are there any book series that you’ve been meaning to start but haven’t gotten around to yet? Which ones are they?
Bruh, of course there are, there's SO MANY 😂 I mean, can you really call yourself a reader if you don't have mass stacks of unread, not even started books in columns around your room?
Okay but series that are highest up on the list are John Gwynne's Bloodsworn, all the ROTE stuff past Liveship Traders, and Malazan Book of the Fallen
Also got several series where I've read the first book and not got round to the rest of them, including Liveship Traders, Mistborn, and The Faithful and the Fallen (John Gywnne again)
So yeah, safe to say I've got a fair bit to get through. Better get on with reading it all! 😂

Burnt Ivory King(Dank Souls 2) - - AVAILABLE APPOINTMENTS: ⬇️ Dallas, TX: April: 1, 14, 16, 20, 21, 27 - - - Notes: despite of the negative publicity Dark Souls 2 has this boss fight is easily one of my favorite fights in all of the soulsborne series! For many reasons this whole DLC was amazing: you rescue and gather knights from around the castle, then join forces to plunge into the depths of chaos and liberate the corrupted King and his knights! Also the lore and energy around this King is beautiful, he sacrificed himself much like lord Gywnn but in a much greater act of selflessness. The Ivory King seems to be one of those rare pure souls in the series. - - - LORE: The Ivory King was once the ruler of Eleum Loyce. His origins are said to trace back to the kingdom of Forossa, where he served as a high ranking knight. The Ivory King was described as a compassionate and strong ruler, always the first to swing his sword in times of need for the good of his people or for his homeland. When a lost child of Dark named Alsanna sought to sustain herself using the powerful king, he granted her protection and comfort despite possibly knowing her true intentions. At an unknown point, an ancient Chaos was discovered deep below the land. Legend holds that the Ivory King used his magnificent soul to build Eleum Loyce and contain the spread of Chaos. A grand cathedral was built in an attempt to appease the raging flame, but the Chaos would not be sated. Eventually, the Ivory King sensed the degradation of his soul and left Eleum Loyce without a word, leaving everything to Alsanna. He traveled deep into the Chaos until he and his knights were corrupted by the flames. At some point after the King's departure, the ivory gates of the city were flung open, and the land grew cold and lifeless. - - - If you’re missing my travel dates or availability you may swear your loyalty to The Unkindled Email than you will get first dibs on appointments, travel dates, new merch drops, monthly newsletter and more! Propaganda for Jester (Steve Mackenzie):
He's smart enough to immediately flee the battle at the end of season 2 so we know he won't die in battle, he's willing to side with whoever's most convenient, he's well-liked, with the only time he was actually in trouble being when he decided to stop being Madalena's boytoy.
Gywnne already thinks she's in got tbh. Her poisoning plot is very red wedding. She failed because she's in Galavant.

Books on my Reading List
Hello dwarflings (and wandering travellers). Thought I would like to share with you my ever growing reading list. I swear it grows 3x faster than me reading through a book. This list will be a mixture of books I've already bought (I think it's turning into an addiction) and books I NEED. Yes need haha.
Fantasy:
Tower of Fools - Andrezej Sapkowski
Fury of the Gods - John Gywnne

200 Films of 1952
Film number 188: Breakdown
Release date: July 16th, 1952
Studio: Pegasus Productions, Realart Pictures Inc.
Genre: sports noir
Director: Edmond Aneglo
Producer: Edmond Angelo
Actors: Ann Richards, William Bishop, Anne Gywnne, Wally Cassell, Sheldon Leonard
Plot Summary: Terry Williams was framed and sent to prison, but he gets an early release to become a prizefighter. Managed by Pete and his brother Nick, he gains notoriety for consecutive and swift K.Os. Seeing this, powerful people want him to fight the current Heavyweight Champion in a massive charity event. Pete knows he’s not ready, though, and is terrified it will put his life in danger.
My Rating (out of five stars): ***
Hey ladies, do you ever think dating a boxer would be kind of fun? Well you sure won’t if you watch this movie! Actually, this was an entertaining boxing flick with some interesting colorful characters and a good deal of suspense. It came with punches, but it also had a sensitive underbelly. (minor spoilers)
The Good:
Wally Cassell as Pete, Terry’s disabled manager. He played the character with such sensitivity and pathos, he broke your heart whether he was feeling joy, sadness, or fear.
Sheldon Leonard as Nick, Terry’s tough guy brother. He was so good in this! He was perfectly cast.
Anne Gywnne as Nick’s wife and Punchy’s former girlfriend. Sometimes she succumbed too much to the melodrama and overacted, but despite that, there was something I really liked about her. She had an interesting look and wasn’t just a stereotypical sweet and fragile wife. There was a strength underneath her brokenness.
The bond between the brothers was extremely moving. Seeing the thuggish Nick respond to Pete the way he did made me a little teary more than once.
There were lots of colorful characters that were relatively well fleshed out. I think this was due to a mixture of the writing, the casting, and the acting.
The story was quite suspenseful. I knew something big was coming at the end, and waiting for it to unfold made me feel the right kind of apprehension and unease.
There was one twist I didn’t see coming near the end.
The final fight scene was pretty epic. For a low budget film, it was very impressive and almost traumatic to watch.
The Bad:
In my opinion, the biggest flaw the film had was its tendency to cross over the line into histrionic melodrama. In the more theatrical moments, the writing and the acting went way over the top, to the point of distraction.
The music was also a big part of the above issue. It was waay too much- you'd almost think the score was for a tragic opera! It was another distracting thing when the story got dramatic.
I liked William Bishop as Terry, but I didn’t buy him as a lower-class parolee. He had a refined air about him that worked against his believability.
The whole romance plot between Terry and June was... something. It was too sappy and soapy, and it seemed fanciful that a high society millionaire would marry an amateur boxer who just got out of jail.
Oh my god was there a monumentally awful “falling in love montage!” We got the usual vignettes like the two of them eating a romantic dinner, slow dancing, walking hand in hand, frolicking outdoors... but everything was connected by daily calendar pages flipping over! It was montage cliche after montage cliche.
The plot with Punchy was often too much. At first I liked him as an ominous character, but then it became the most breathless sweeping melodramatic stuff you could imagine. We also never got any news at the end about a possible surgery he could have, which was sad.
Some of the sets had really low ceilings that made me feel claustrophobic, which was disturbing. I know the budget was miniscule, though.

Vox Maxima Gallery 2: The Kraivh Empire
The world is broken; wounded, and one in seven in the entire empire expunged. A billion are missing and amongst them were workers, guards, scholars — and those missing people have left a wound across the entire world. Thankfully, the strong leadership, the head of the Kraivh Assembly, have been able to hold the institutions of the world strong in this great, yawning disappearance.
The armies of the Kraivh defend the borders. The Osteotheruges pick through the graves and memorials, trying to find the truth that has been lost. And even Emperor Kraivh, The Eternal Undying himself has assigned his closest blood to the quest of solving the great question, beginning the quest meant to solve that mystery, and in the process, bring back a satisfactory answer to be spoken in in the Vox Maxima.
Vox Maxima is a custom magic set created by Talen Lee. It’s composed of 187 cards, with 71 commons, 60 uncommons, 41 rares, and 15 mythic rares. Vox Decima is a custom Magic: The Gathering set, with at least one card spoiled a day, on Cohost, Kind.Social, and the r/custommagic subreddit.
WOTC Employees: This post in full presents unsolicited custom Magic: The Gathering card designs, which I understand current employee practices forbid you from looking at unsolicited. You shouldn’t be here!
And now, the gallery of cards:
The Empire being what it is, is organised and regulated, and every source of power and authority within it owns some of that Imperial Blood to it; important figures like Rudel III, Gywnn XI, and Aszyt’s Rebuttal stand on the borders of the Empire, opposing those factions that seek to encroach on the stability the empire offers. In the empire, the use of skeleton servants has successfully met the needs of the missing billion people, and also means that most citizens that aren’t necromancers don’t need to care about the works or will of the military at all. This is a necropolity, a space where the ruling power is directly fed into the necromancers who control access to life and death. People are healed, even from death, and cared for by the great machinery of the Empire. Even the dead can contribute to the Empire, where bones are valued, and the Emperor (be he loved) stands at the head offering everyone stability in this time of strange missing memories. Nobody remembers him taking power, but the empire is there and with his immense responsibility upon him, he has dedicatd effort to ensuring everyone has
These cards represent (mostly) the cards relevant to the Kraivh Assembly, the church worshipping the Necromantic god-emperor Kraivh, who holds the world together despite the loss of a billion lives. He is the Vox Maxima, and they speak with his voice. The Assembly is its top echelon – the necromancers (osteotheurges) that the world leans on. It’s notable how the aesthetics of necromancer valued here; skeletons are treated as proper and clean forms of necromancy, but zombies? You won’t find a zombie in the Kraivh Assembly. No, that’s untidy.
What these cards are trying to present, in world building and mechanical terms, is the idea of a massive, ponderous, institutionally supported empire. There are people who operate within that empire, there are individuals who are given power, but also that power is represented as being dynastic, and interconnected, and ultimately hierarchal. The Kraivh faction in its core is composed of a sense of religious order (white), a sense of emotional need to survive (red), and a willingness to do anything to survive (black). Ultimately, the entire Empire is built like a Platonic philosopher-king perspective; the empire is the artwork of a powerful individual, driven and focused on expressing himself, in the form of his empire, where art and poetry and infrastructure and contribution are all highly valued. Still, the emperor’s ego is overwhelming. There are parts of the Empire that are guarded by and respond to things that he specifically thinks of as his against his ego. Which makes sense, I mean he’s a god-emperor of a skeleton army.
This also introduces a card that’s going to be part of a cycle, with Cazas II. She is one of a small number of cards in the set with no flavour text, and whose card is meant to represent a character who exists in this world, is okay with her place in it, but in the course of the story learns about some event, something that was kept hidden, represented by engaging with the saga. This is a card made for commander, with the ability to be played or replayed as conveniently. In Cazas II’s case, she is a member of the ‘core group’ that works together to pursue the story with Niamh, along with her other sisters, and Cazas is the one who, in the course of the story learns about the event known as the Greatest Sin.
The Greatest Sin, as it might not surprise you, was a mass human casualty event in which the Emperor used for some purpose that related to the empire. But of course, knowing about this, finding the proof of this, is not necessarily the same thing as working out what it means, or how she’d react because of it. And it’s important, Cazas is a white character who has a red-black strain to her – so she may be accepting of the greater good that the Emperor follows, or using the religion of the Emperor as her guidance here.
Some specific card notes:
Cruel Trade is an engine card inspired by Malevolent Awakening. I like when there’s an uncommon engine card,
I do think that some cards like Cleansing Exchange can be printed at common. I don’t like staple removal being rare, so I tried to design a version that could be non-disruptive for common environments.
The wording on battlefield post feels, to me, hard to parse – the vibe is that you can get a creature and an equipment, if their total mana value together is 3.
I only just now realise that there’s multiple instances of simple treasure hate. Weird.
Rudel III is our second Eminence character. This is a really specific idea, the notion of what can a suicide aggro deck look like in commander? The aim was to make a character whose whole thing was to make it so that this card wasn’t just an automatic combo option, and so, the deck he fuels has to be able to win the game through making all other players lose. The wording is specific: ‘you can’t win the game’ means ‘you win the game’ effects don’t work. You still win the game if you’re the only player left – other players can still lose.
‘Cremains’ is a real word, it’s the term used for the leftover ash and bone fragments from when a body is burned.
Kraivh IV represents the challenge with naming and name length. She even has had to have her counter type changed just to make the name shorter!
