Something sparked in Azriel's chest, but he only nodded his thanks and left. He could picture it, though, as he ascended the stairs back to the House proper. How Gwyn's teal eyes might light upon seeing the necklace. For whatever reason... he could see it. But Azriel tucked away the thought, consciously erasing the slight smile it brought to his face. since acosf came out i had this feeling that gwyn and az could have a beautiful connection, honestly I love both of them and think that the little moments when they coexist together are really cute and wholesome. I love that they love music, they’re warriors, they’re determined and love loveee that Azriel’s shadows are calm and curious around gwyn.🌌🦇🗡️✨

"Below the Edge of Darkness" is a book about a marine biologist, about bioluminescence in the sea. It has tentacles on the cover.

"life and light in the sea" is not a nod to e/riel.

But of course some e/riels are convinced it has to do with Az based on the title alone and the use of "light" and darkness. Because one clearly thinks of Elain when they think of anglerfish. 🤦

If we're trying to spin the selection she had displayed, a book on flowers and women's roles in medieval society would lean Elain and a book on the ocean would lean Gwyn. Or even House of Many Waters at some point.

Sneak Peek: The flight was as magnificent as it was yesterday. When they landed, their gazes met, but instead of a similar glimmer of joy, his face was the usual mask of stoic indifference. Her heart dropped, just as her body did when he discarded her as soon as his feet hit the ground. She barely landed on her feet, when she saw him flex his hands as if he was disgusted by her touch. Just like that, the intimacy of the moment was gone, as insecurity crept its way inside her heart, and eclipsed her earlier joy.

Was he disgusted by her? Was it because of her past?

Suddenly, her Illyrian leathers felt too exposed. She felt too exposed. Did she allow her wishes to cloud her judgment- once again? Just because Elain and Azriel weren't a couple anymore, that didn't mean she and Azriel would become one. She would never force him to share her romantic sentiments, no matter how much she wanted him to, but that didn't mean he could treat her with such blatant aversion.

With furrowed brows, she glared at the Shadowsinger who didn't seem bothered in the slightest. The only thing she saw was his retreating figure, as he walked away to examine the surroundings, not sparing her a second glance. His shadows searched for any possible danger too, except for one lone tendril of smoke, which floated in front of her as if to say I'm sorry.

Despite the decency of the one shadow, she felt an intense burning in her chest, as she vowed to push away the thoughts racing through her brain, to focus on the anger flooding her veins. Until she realized she was outside the library, and her breathing became more labored- what if someone found her here, what if somebody attacked again, what if- she halted her racing thoughts, as she forcefully pushed them into that dark prison she built inside her mind. Guarded by thick iron bars, hidden from sight and mind- even from herself.

“I forgot how good it feels to have the full sun upon my head.” She peered up again. “Forgive me if I spend some time gawking at the sky.”

Gwyn was the first priestess to brave her fears and step foot outside the safety of the library.

One small step with huge impact that ultimately led to her becoming a Valkery.

I Imagine her being momentarily transported back to Sangravah and the freedom she felt there. The pure euphoria of those liquid rays of happiness, after having lived inside the confines of the library for so long.

now that i'm almost through with acosf, i can finally give my opinion on the (non-canon) ships

elriel: could be cute, but is very boring at the moment. like, i can see the vision (aesthetically speaking) but nothing in canon would make me want to read that story (500 pages of rhys trying to keep them apart? no thank you)

elucien: so much potential for the story, and i can see an interesting dynamic between them. I also just hope Elain leaves the nightcourt and we finally get to see some other locations, its getting boring here.

gwynriel: probably the best one for Az and i really would like to see more of the them as a spy/fighting duo. And his shadows dance for her?? thats so cute

emorie: visually yes, but I don't like Mor. she is just a cardboard cutout and i didn't even realize she wasn't there for most of the time in the last book

azris: that would be the best story but sjm is too much of a coward to make them happen.
