Tell us about the founders of Med-x:
Founders are,
Vishay Gupta (36)
Director Marketing – Ibibo Group – 2014 – 2015
Senior Product Manager – Dabur India Ltd. – 2007- 2014
2. Abhinav Sharma (36)
Director, KM Hospital, Gwalior since 2008
Practising as a Laparoscopic Surgeon since 2008
Senior Resident in Cardiothoracic Surgery in RML hospital, Delhi –2007 – 2008
3. Indroji Rao Kadam (33)
Director, Sumi Life care, Pharma CFA & distribution – Since 2011
Director, Swami Samarth college, Gwalior – since 2007
Vishay further talks about all of their motivational stories,
“My entire family has been from service class and that’s how I was groomed from the beginning. Study well, get a job and then keep growing. But after working in corporate sector for 3-4 years I knew I wasn’t meant to work for someone else. But getting out of the job mould and actually starting up took time. With the startup culture developing in India I decided to work with one to get some exposure and 1 year at Ibibo helped to understand how startups work and I got the confidence that even I can do it and that’s when I took the plunge.”
Talking about Abhinav, he says,
“After his Post graduation, he wanted to settle abroad as most of his peers did but had to come back to Gwalior for some Family reasons. But after working there for some time he realized the need of good healthcare in Gwalior and decided to continue working there. He visioned providing good healthcare facilities to other tiers 2 cities where it is much needed, but setting up hospitals would have been highly capital intensive. With Med-x he saw the opportunity to reach tier 2-3 towns across India and realized his dream of being able to contribute to the healthcare needs in these cities.”
For Indroji, he has to say,
“Being from one of the oldest Maratha family to have settled in Gwalior he is very proud of being from Gwalior. He always wanted to do something which puts Gwalior on the forefront. Seeing the startup culture expanding in India he wanted to start something from Gwalior which he could be proud of. The moment we discussed the idea of Med-x with him he was all excited and ready to give his all.”
How did a laparoscopic surgeon, a pharmacy businessman and a former Ibibo employee come together? And from where did the idea of med-tech startup come?
I was introduced to Abhinav through a common friend as he was looking to partner someone for a hospital app that he wanted to make. We clicked in the first meeting itself and while brainstorming on different services we could add to the app we decided to start Med-x. Indroji is a school friend of Abhinav and in the pharma distribution business. He was also exploring new opportunities and was an ideal fit to partner us in Med-x and that’s how three of us got together. The 3 of us spent a couple of days together figuring out the business model and also understanding each other better. We gelled pretty well and since then we have been working together to make Med-x big.

How was the initial response you got?
We launched by distributing pamphlets on the first day in Gwalior and were hoping that we get some queries. But by end of day, we had 11 confirmed orders, which was way beyond what we had expected. We were pleasantly surprised and since that day there has been no looking back.

We have tie ups with reputed labs in different cities. We take orders from customers and pass on the leads to these labs who arrange for pickup of samples and report delivery.

We have tied up with Thyrocare for lab tests.

What does make Med-x different?
Simplicity of just ordering over a phone call which is answered straight without any complicated IVR, clear focus on tier 2 cities, same day delivery if ordered before 2 pm, high fulfillment rates.
Tell us about your views on ‘Startup in India’:
It is still in initial days and more clarity will come once some startups actually become eligible and qualify under the criteria mentioned. As far as we are concerned the measure of the success of a startup is if the customer find it useful and keep coming back and at the same time the business is not losing money in achieving this. This keeps things simple and easy to measure.
Where do you imagine Med-x in a few years?
We want healthcare to be just a call away for the whole of India. We want to be focused on delivering medicines/healthcare products at the best price, at the right time and ensure everything is available. We want to keep adding other services that our customers may need like – health checkup, hospitals bookings, doctor visits, diagnostics and general lifestyle consultation.
Tell us about your future plans:
In the next 2 years, we are looking to be in 40 cities in India and focus on getting our operations right. We will also keep adding services as we grow and learn.
Your message to the world:
Our endeavor is to make health care affordable and convenient for everyone. A lot of healthcare facilities are accessible in Metros but the same kind infrastructure is not there in other towns despite the fact that healthcare needs are the same everywhere. With growing age and lifestyle issues, healthcare expense takes a major hit on one’s expenses and we want to ensure that this hit remains minimal. At the same time, we want to promote a healthy lifestyle in India.
C4N India congratulates Med-x for their unique initiative and they wish them all the best for their glorious future!

No, we don’t have an app but the website is responsive and easy to use on the mobile. We are also working on developing the app.
How was the initial response you got?
We launched by distributing pamphlets on the first day in Gwalior and were hoping that we get some queries. But by end of day, we had 11 confirmed orders, which was way beyond what we had expected. We were pleasantly surprised and since that day there has been no looking back.
Current figures:

More than 50% customers repeat orders
One center added every month since launch- current presence – Gwalior, Indore, Bhopal, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Lucknow

We have tie ups with reputed labs in different cities. We take orders from customers and pass on the leads to these labs who arrange for pickup of samples and report delivery.
Tell us about the other products available at Med-x apart from medicines:
Med-x intends to replace your chemist and hence we provide everything that a chemist stocks – OTC products, Health monitors and equipment and household products.

We have tied up with Thyrocare for lab tests.
How many cities have you covered till now?
6 – Gwalior, Indore, Bhopal, Jalandhar, Lucknow, Amritsar
