Finally done! Post dividers based on the Guild Wars 2 races! As always, free to use for your posts and/or fansites! Crediting me is optional!
More dividers here.
--
I wanted to try something a little different adding the cultural spears for each race. Also added a plain bar variant for those who don't particularity like the spears variant. Enjoy!
--
Icons used were grabbed from the Guild Wars 2 wiki [ x ] These look best with dark themes (sorry I live in dark mode -.-)
I do have a ko-fi if anyone feels like sending a little thank you for the stuff I create on here 💞

i havent been keeping particularly good notes abt how my characters are reacting to plot beats (well ive Tried i definitely kept up revyls journal during its ps but ive fallen off aksjd) because imma be honest i havent been invested in the story till scarlet got introduced but i wanna keep doing it and posting it on here
#talking tag#gw2#this current tension with revyl coming into contact with the court again is Inchresting though....#since one of the npcs you report to is priory maybe taz and revyl are the ones mainly in charge of helping marjory with the antitoxin#and while the two of em are out fighting krait taz finds out....rotating them#revyl struck with the fear of god that it might be taken back into the court because it was too valuable an asset to lose#and that its relationship with co commander irene is not only ruined forever#that irene will just!! attack it!!! ah!!!!!!#ok this goes in the journal tag now with all this rambling alsjd#journal: gw2

AI Art
Hi! I heard down the grapevine that some people are thinking of using/have been using art and screencaps in the gw2 tags to build AI Art! So my official stance is; fuck your AI "art" that's just made from stolen assets. I do not support it or usage of my work in it, I'm too tired for this shit 🖕 Thanks! <3

January's Guild Wars Journal
I've spent the last year or two really dragged into Guild Wars 2. I could gush about this game for hours, and I figured the best way to do that was to keep a monthly log of what I see and do. But first, we might need some context.
What the heck is Guild Wars 2?
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/924889b63e7d0bc17d75b149fa5eecb2/5748e38796e68f72-bc/s540x810/8dfb350af3d4ac51f74d04b975104923711fd325.jpg)
Guild Wars 2 is an MMO, and one of the best on the market in my opinion. I've dabbled in MMO's as a kid on a shitty laptop, they barely ran well and were usually F2P games that I couldn't afford to actually get into. The genre didn't really click with me until I played Final Fantasy XIV. A great game I poured over 5 years into that I feel like I mostly outgrew. No fault to the game itself, almost entirely my tastes changing as I got more familiar with the genre.
I floated from game to game until my buddy dragged me to try GW2 and man it was almost immediate. It's focus on exploration and attempts to encourage you to participate in the world hooked me in ways I didn't expect. The overworlds are these sprawling maps with ever increasing verticality. So far in my experience with the base game, the zones are filled to the brim with detailed interactions and a variety of boss events that often require at least 2 people to keep it from being too overwhelming.
This is Golmelo. She's not my first character, but she's the first one that clicked with me after I started playing again.
She's a Sylvari, basically a tree person. They're born fully grown and are magically connected by "The Dream." It's kinda hard to describe as anything other than a shared subconscious. At the center of this all, The Pale Tree. A sort of benevolent God-King, for lack of a better term, to the Sylvari.
Currently in the plot, I'm in the middle of a grand plot involving Dragons, these supernatural forces of nature that corrupt the very land, and the various factions of Tyria who attempt to weaponize them.
But I'm not doing that right now.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/bab3ede681b7235033d03c364af6d4f3/5748e38796e68f72-47/s540x810/8afc76a0c404c64a939a4727ef8bed87a96c72d8.jpg)
Guild Wars 2 is crafting heavy. I'll go into the details of it later, because it's a good, albeit mildly overwhelming, system. All you need to worry about is that, in this game you don't find your legendary weapons. You craft them. In this case, I'm going after a hammer.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/26d358f85e14daf8eafd64941648c47d/5748e38796e68f72-c3/s540x810/4e24b5de89587f3ad124ab62c392cc134e326cde.jpg)
Mind you, I try to look up as little as possible for this game, but I've been needing to flex that a bit for this thing. That grid of icons are a list of crafting materials you get as rewards from completing tasks. Multiple high level materials with a requirement of 250 each. What appears to be raid/boss drop currency that I have to trade into specific npc's. And my current objective, that is the most practical to me, 100% completing the map of the base game.
If you haven't played GW2 it's kind of hard to tell you how dumbfuck big this game's map is. It's something you have to experience the first time by opening the world map and saying "Truly, it cannot keep going," only to keep scrolling with increasing distress.
So I'm doing 2 birds with one stone. I slacked on my crafting when I was first leveling cause I didn't get it at and was like "eh I don't need it" < Fool
But that's fine because being forced to run around and play catch up on areas I kinda ran through anyways, I can grab a bunch of the mats I missed the first time. It gives me a good supply for those low levels.
I'm currently cutting through the eastern part of the map, which includes the Shiverpeak Mountains and farther East of that is Ascalon, the land Unable To Catch Breaks.

![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b7c2c3d2b4265564241f2a86faa38b0d/5748e38796e68f72-cb/s540x810/bbe7ddbdfba20bc0244a771936b67db4c13aa7b4.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/533a9d0579cec2567ade8c66a26df155/5748e38796e68f72-47/s540x810/615cb9e249edeb800643adc963f1eac74e0f45fb.jpg)
No seriously, that place is half "haunted forever war" and half "dragon crystal zombies".
Despite my very first character being a Charr and remaking one recently I never properly leveled any, so I just stayed away from their leveling areas. Being on this side of the map is brand new to me and I'm surprised by the new things I keep finding. Yeah I'm seeing a lot of reused enemies and assets here and there, but the locations are unique and the situations they have me in are different enough to create memorable moments.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/9504277cc3dae8666a2ddc73df18f1f3/5748e38796e68f72-8b/s540x810/76beb0213a3e668b7167aa1eca6d3e72d482b856.jpg)
I didn't even do the event for this thing, I just went "ew" snapped a pic and left.
Speaking of weird things, check out this "melted mercury" lookin' stuff I found over in The Fields of Ruin.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/372d39bc7d07ce0bf015fe191213173b/5748e38796e68f72-21/s540x810/8945cbc940d058c1d9da84711398c122543b697f.jpg)
Funny enough, the main plot of the original release is about one specific Dragon rising up to be an immediate threat to all the races of Tyria. But, as I run around completing these maps, that's not a unique story. Other dragons, albeit more dormant, are also bringing about the apocalypse in their corners of the world. So much so that these groups are meeting on their own accord (including the rivaling Human factions). I'm sure this is a bigger point in the Charr's personal story, but the other races don't see this at all.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/96a4b74422c2067b24c7f58320f125d3/5748e38796e68f72-ba/s540x810/75e2779e6c52dc42a8eec86f5f594cc5176a980e.jpg)
This whole camp is a shared effort for the Charr and Humans to also come together and put their centuries of war aside.
It's moments like these that make me appreciate my friend in HS loredumping Guild Wars 1 on me more than a few times. Despite this game coming out 10 years ago seeing what I know to be a big deal between the two races is very satisfying to see first hand.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/741583ee9e55d85e13f9c068b207d7fc/5748e38796e68f72-58/s540x810/07a63b1082d2137dd535b5101d5139888c43a790.jpg)
(quick intervention for this amorpheous mass of a party that I watched go through this group of mobs like locusts)
As of writing this I'm 94% done with my world map completion. After this I'm probably gonna pivot to PvP to change things up since I've been at this for a few weeks (not playing everyday obviously). That will be fun to get into since it'll be a good way for me to really learn how pvp goes. I started on this around the last week of the month so the next post should be around this time or earlier.
UPDATE FROM LATER IN THE EVENING:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7ec1ceb733768dc32ffbf39ae9855b1f/5748e38796e68f72-8f/s540x810/dbbd1776d6c4909b7a783e19e56e1868eab6804d.jpg)
We fucking did it bois.
This is off to a good start.

Hi, thanks for hosting the gw2 centric art fight! Before joining the discord, are there any rules or details as to how it'll work?
Hey there! The general game works like this;
You make your thread in the appropriate discord channel, these have your characters and content preferences [what you do/might/don't want to see with your OCs] these are archives that folks can go through and view regarding your characters and learn about them without too much direct interaction with you, if they want to keep the art a surprise!
once you've gone through hubs and found a buddy to 'attack' with a creation, you draw for them and post in the submission channels [they have their own mini template, but simply put, you mention your name, the names of the opponent/s you drew in that attack, and if you want to estimate it, an estimate of your points, a simple breakdown of points can be found in another channel called game assets
theres no limit to the amount you can submit for others! but, we encourage folks to attack new people each time [as you get extra points for attacking someone you haven't done something for yet!]
theres nothing stopping you from contacting people for clarification, or making a thread in the find an opponent channel if you have a specific artwork in mind that you want to find a character for [for example, if you wanted to find a character to draw with a food item, or a specific character profession :>]
at the end of the game, the mods will go through and total up the final scores, the winning team will influence the next game slightly!

Meet a-Yao (mesmer -> chronomancer, because i said so) and Sang-er (ranger -> soulbeast, because ditto) as they show up in GW2
Meng Yao grew up in the Risen-infested lower wards of New Kaineng City. His mother was once a singer of some prominence until it got out that her boyfriend was in fact a married man, and a high-ranking Minister at that! It barely made a blip on his career, but completely ruined hers, getting her banned from most of the clubs and teahouses frequented by the elite.
As a child, Meng Yao was forced to develop his talent as a mesmer almost entirely on his own by dodging undead and scaring off city guards who would have taken advantage of his mother.
When the Aetherblade fleet crashes down on Shing Jea Island, re-awakening Cantha to the rest of the outside world, Meng Yao finds an opportunity for lucrative work when he comes across a group of extremely strange-looking (Cat people? Plant people? Giants?) outsiders putting down Risen. They're following someone they call Commander into the Echovald Forest to continue getting rid of Aetherblades, but had to pause to fight. They may or may not actually need a translator (their accents are atrocious, but they can somewhat speak Canthan, and it's been hundreds of years, so he can't really fault any language changes) but if he wants the job, he can have it.
For the money they're offering, he jumps at the chance.
Meanwhile, Nie Huaisang grew up in the Echovald, dodging gangs and cultists and big hungry beasts his whole life. The Nies were once a prominent family, but had supposedly died out even before the Ministry of Purity began its purges, and the few members left are perfectly fine with that reputation because it gives them more freedom to move about if people think they don't exist.
His magic as a ranger makes it easier for him than most, since he can charm most things that would try to eat him with no problems. Unfortunately it also makes him a desireable asset to the Speakers and an annoyance to the Jade Brotherhood, who both target him with frequency.
And then the fucking sky pirates and their undead and those creepy shadow monster things showed up and so did the weirdos chasing them all.
Nie Huaisang and Meng Yao end up almost literally crashing into each other when things start getting truly chaotic, and Huaisang winds up more or less accidentally swept into the group of explorers Meng Yao was traveling with.
Which winds up with both of them caught in the middle of what could be the end of the world.
They're ordered to help get miners and civilians away from the battlefield, but as the battlefield keeps growing and reality falls apart around it, they quickly realize that if the strange outsiders don't win, there's not gonna be anywhere to run to.
And then the end of the world stops.
And the last of the original elder dragons dies.
And... damn, what do they do now?
"Want to go get dinner?" Huaisang asks, which is as good an option as any, really, since they were only side characters in this whole story.

I think it's about time I give a bit of an update about the nature of my content moving forward. It's rare that I address directly the people who observe my activity, but it's probably important that I disambiguate the odd state of my online presence right now.
Ever since the Icebrood Saga came out for Guild Wars 2, I've made no secret of my disdain for the state and utter betrayal of the Charr as a whole by the developers. I know they were just redirecting their primary resources to work on an upcoming expansion, but when they gave the charr the spotlight, they fumbled, and ended up embarrassing them instead of fleshing them out. This total flop more or less eliminated any enthusiasm I had for the game, on top of my growing dissatisfaction with MMOs as a whole, and I started becoming distant from the Guild Wars 2 community in general, which translates pretty consistently with the recent performance of my posts. That in conjunction with the problematic state of Twitter burning everyone out on social media, and my recent occupation with my own new narrative project and slow going commercial asset production, has caused a variety of setbacks. People are either indisposed from social media for the time being, or are disinterested in content that does not pertain to Guild Wars 2, or both. This basically means I'm starting from scratch with building up a reputation around my future content. I haven't had much to share lately because the work I'm doing now is very backend and foundational, setting the stage for me to start making more comprehensive artistic and literature content for my own projects in the future, but it's been slow going, and demoralizing. The only interest I can generate around my exploits is when speaking to people directly about it, and even then, it's short lived. I'm not going to blame the algorithm, because it really appears as though my participation in social media has lacked any rhyme or reason lately. There's no purpose there to draw people in just yet, but I hope I can fix that soon enough. Anyways, this is basically the official announcement of my discontinuation of Charr content. I might make a Memeberfall here and there, I might accept a commission from some GW2 friends every once in a while, and there is also a remote possibility that I might make a lore accurate Charr avatar base for VRChat somewhere down the road. But from this point on, I'm going to be producing content more or less exclusively for my own narrative project, The World of Relm, and I am pretty much done with Guild Wars 2. I'm hoping to draw the people I've attracted from the Guild Wars community into my own world by inspiring some plot points and worldbuilding by the Guild Wars story, (I also want to make a Charr-like species for Relm) and so if you're interested, I do appreciate you sticking around. But if you're only here for the battlecats, I totally understand if you'd like to free up some space on your follow list, because I've put all that behind me now.

Tell me 1, 2, 10 and 13 from the GW2 Ask Meme 3 for August!
Ask Game
I have this au idea where August becomes his Ultimate Self, fully realizing the extent of his powers and manifesting the abilities and applications of a Chronomancer, Mirage, and Virtuoso. The general idea is that in this au, Gaius gets assassinated during the Rally, and August goes "aight, time to make my old man proud." and takes over the Legions to ensure No More Conflict.
August isn't really great at things that require direct confrontation. He's plenty of capable in a 1 on 1 fist fight, but muscle isn't really his thing, and he's not particularly physically impressive, anyway.
10. I think if Tyria at large knew about his background and some of the shittier things he's done, there'd be some backlash, but like, he's charr. Very notably, he's not actually much in the public eye of Tyria, because that defeats the purpose of him being a spy, so while folk know him, and obvious the legions know him, I don't know that it'd be much, just on account of the asset he's turned out to be--and how I think, whether it's true or not, it'd very much be read by charr as being thanks to Gaius' guidance.
13. Lmao I actually can't think of anything, I'm so sorry to disappoint you here.

Just Wait it Gets Good
Just Wait it Gets Good - This morning I talk about GW2 and the existential problem facing aging MMORPGs of having a clear point where the story massively improves.
There will be some potential Guild Wars 2 story spoilers in this post so be warned. Hey Folks! I have been busy this week with work and finishing up all of the assets so that I could make the Blaugust 2023 announcement yesterday. When it comes to gaming, I have mostly been focused on catching up with my Ranger with the story content in Guild Wars 2 and preparing them for the expansion drop in…

I wonder how Guild Wars 3 will look like. I wonder how it's going to be build. To make a new MMO actually pop Arenanet has to be innovative. It has to be actually fresh for the market or it's going to die quick.
What are going to be the themes? Dragons are killed and we fought gods.
Is it even going to be the same world? Same universe? It'd be cool to see GW world change again after ages, but in the same time it'd finally change genres from fantasy to sci-fi. Making further advancements into sci-fi would surely alienate lot of players who play GW2 for the fantasy aspects.
Not even speaking how much the maps would Need to change to make them feel fresh once again. With GW1 changing to GW2 it wasn't as much of an issue as many capabilities advanced. But GW3? You'd need to change a lot, i'm just saying.
WIll it even be another MMO? Well, i think they should do another MMO, but will whatever they do just be enough to satisfy anyone?
And like, my another worry. Will the development of writing/art AI influence Guild Wars 3? I do think it likely will, but how much will it influence is another question. If it's the same world they could reuse lot of assets (though i guess they'd reuse them either way). If it's another world they could do lot of randomizing AI and pretend there was any thought behind it.

tumblr's formatting is a pain but posting this excerpt from a thread with someone who's trying to make use of my (old, bad, but working) guild wars 2 optimization code
my problem with, like. life in general. is that, you know, these problems are interesting to talk about and potentially maybe solve. but like. you can only do one thing if you spend this much time on the thing, or even on talking about how the thing could maybe be done with an immense time investment
me:
some difficulty initially did come from—let's do another simple example: viper or sinister, bursting or smoldering. the optimizer used to start at "all viper" and end at "all sinister," which meant that you would see all bursting builds in the beginning and all smoldering at the end. this both made a theoretical heuristic removing options that did not wind up anywhere close to the top n not work, and from a practical user perspective made you need to wait a long time to feel like you knew roughly the right build
I changed it to start with, in this case, viper-sinister-viper-sinister-viper-sinister etc, and it changes one gear piece per run. this relatively quickly covers most of the possibility space for gear, which means that after the first few seconds in many cases, you see the sigils and runes become relatively static; at that point pruning every non-viable sigil and rune feels reasonable
but when you enable many options, like 4-5 affixes, a) getting to the point where every rune/sigil combo has filled much of the probability space can take a while (minutes+), and b) sometimes the optimal build really is fairly unique, particularly if you have something like a minimum boon duration set
if you do concentration or bursting; ritualist or viper or [options here] with a minimum boon duration that winds up being all ritualist, until you actually run 100% ritualist, busting sigil will never show up on the top n list because every single other build requires concentration (but you do not want to cut it off, as it's actually the optimal build)
these problems should all be solvable, I'm fairly certain, at least to a degree, but I didn't put that much work into experimenting with better algorithms because keeping up with patches to keep the current system working took/takes so long lol
so anyway tl;dr I didn't figure out an obvious way to make it fast enough that you could just enable the entire list of potentially relevant options
(the other person I'm working with):
true
we need some pog A* then for sure
when you getting to it
me:
my main idea for a speedup was: every combination of gear is some percentage affix a, some percentage affix b, some percentage affix c, etc. rather than using the actual permutations of the affix options, find the optimal percentage of each affix for any given combination of runes and sigils. this should be very easy computationally; I think it's just gradient descent
then, find a way to enumerate every combination of gear that is within n% of the optimal mix, and exhaustively calculate damage for every one
I'm pretty sure it would work, but I don't have the math background to code gradient descent on an n-dimensional space, I don't have an obvious idea about how to enumerate combinations close to a certain mixture (math again), and most importantly, gw2 equipment items don't actually match up that closely with "a backpack is 1.2% of your stats so add 1.2% of full viper" and I don't know if that would be enough to screw it up
but if someone with the math and coding background wanted to try it, I would love to know if it works lol
anyway all of that aside, I think one of the gear optimizer's primary assets is its UI for selecting options, given that we do at least currently need to only select relevant ones, and I don't know if that's worth taking advantage of or if there's a good enough way to do it as just a server app
#I could have written like. an entire fanfic. in the time this conversation took#okay no I would have written about two paragraphs

So, yeah we enjoy tinfoil hat theories as much as the next guy, but having grown up watching Game Theory, taking two years of game design courses, and countless hours spent overanalyzing story details for fun, legit we don't think that the Wizards Tower people are going anywhere.
Is Nayos going to no longer be as important? Probably, but the Wizards Tower cast is going to be the driving force for a long time to come.
Don't you think it would be odd for Anet to openly say that they already have the next couple of expansions planned, when they've been dying to talk about the Wizards Tower for DECADES? How would they even have that kind of rapid fire creative direction to be able to plan the story that far ahead?
It's because, incredibly likely, the player base needed to get INTRODUCED to the new "dragon cycle," the new "raison d'être" for the Commander to keep being busy. And wouldn't you know it but Anet now has a convenient reason why the Commander can dimension hop and see all kinds of strange new things in the Mists - because the Wizards can open doorways between other realms!
Also, right after finishing the story, the Wizard Tower hub changes. Now you have a bunch of Kryptis hanging around and interacting with other NPCs. It's entirely possible that you might have a few Kryptis joining for future adventures.
Peitha is probably going to be stuck in Nayos now to help fix what Eparch did, and when you talk to Zojja in the final story, it sounds pretty likely that this is a final goodbye for her character. So not everyone is going to be coming back after SotO, which is to be expected, but the majority probably will.
Anet has been.. decently consistent with trying to keep the same voice actors over the years, and if a voice actor is unavailable the character in turn usually isn't. So this was probably going to be the last time Felicia Day works for Anet. And the same can be said for any other characters - all of Dragon's Watch is seemingly gone from the story, but that probably has to do with several of the voice actors wanting to go on to do different projects (because, for some of them, they've been with GW2 for close to a DECADE)
So with a bunch of voice actors retiring and now Anet brought on a whole new cast of characters for SotO, you can bet that if they can avoid spending MORE time and money trying to find and hire ANOTHER cast of voice actors for ANOTHER expansion, they will. Game design is already so costly in terms of time and money it's insane. Reusing assets is so common in any game because everything takes so much time. It's insane. The crunch culture is horrible in that industry and mad respect to Anet for trying to steer away from that.
Sorry. Tangents aside: it's cheaper for Anet to reuse the characters and voice actors from SotO as much as possible and makes the most narrative sense.
the more i think about my opinion the more i feel like, man. i liked SOTO... i liked Pre-Nayos SOTO at least. i find the Wizard's Court interesting. i find the new characters interesting and now just... it's over. soon we'll probably have new hub that probably takes up fucking another one of my shared inventory slots (anet container for all the scrolls WHEN) and new characters and a new plot. and the more i think about the more i feel like... we're ending right as it began.
i want to like these new characters more. they were fun for the brief time i got to see them and talk to them and see their side stories flesh out. hell even maybe see the main gang meet Dragon's Watch!!!
like i keep imagining, idk. the finale of Midnight King is more or less Eparch literally consuming all of Nayos (for gameplay reasons we can still play it's just treated as "before" the final story step) as Eparch seeks to obtain god-like power further in the Mists. maybe there's a refugee crisis with the kryptis loyal to Peitha who now need a new homeland: let's say Cascade Woods. Peitha also is now somewhat lost and directionless in the face of what is unconditionally an overwhelming defeat for her and is no longer certain she can be a worthy King for her people. the Wizard Court being forced to reveal itself to Tyria at last as Eparch's threat now becomes world-destroying. and then after a period of 2-3 years irl, the final climactic battle with Eparch to end the Wizard/Demon/Kryptis Saga once and for all to prepare for the next great adventure. a new Saga taking a few years.
but it began and ended.... and it's just over now. and i can't stop thinking almost every issue i have with SOTO could've been resolved with "i wish it had more time. i wish we could think about this for another two years and see it develop." but it's just. it's over. and the dialogue in the Tower even seems to be pretty final. like, i have NO doubt we'll see these characters again, but for now it's just... over.
so i'm genuinely curious. does anyone else feel the same? does anyone else feel like Secrets of the Obscure should have been the first installment of a new Saga, a trilogy or duology of expansions with a more streamlined focus by keeping the same writing team so the plot doesn't change multiple times before moving onto the next? or was it fine by itself?
i'm genuinely curious! and i'd love to hear your reasonings too!
#soto spoilers#there's a reason why we didn't pursue that career choice. but we're stubborn and wanted to complete the program anyway

Rui's turn! my sweet, gentle flower boy who also happens to be, quite by accident my strike/raid/dungeon main
[ Name ] Ruisehart/Rui
[ Species ] Sylvari
[ Height ] 6'4"
[ Age ] 18-28 [36-46 by more normal age conventions]
[ Class ] Necromancer Reaper
[ Cycle ] Dusk
[ Gender ] Male, He/Him
[ Status ] Married
[ Orientation ] Demisexual
When Mordremoth appeared, he concocted a potion that was intended to put himself into a suspended state of animation for 5 years, hopefully, when the threat of the dragon would have long passed over, not wanting his advanced knowledge of minion creation and preservation to fall into the wrong hands. However, with the whispers already starting to creep into his thoughts, his ratios for his potion failed, resulting in his death through poisoning. Prior to this, Rui was a simple funeral director, skilled in making bodies presentable for open caskets, complete with deeply complex floral displays to honour the dead. How close he could work to a specification and how meticulous he can be are his biggest assets. He would also frequently handle pet burials and occasional taxidermy, which briefly led him to meet Slei during his rougher days.
After the events of Heart of thorns, Rui is found in his death state by Tai. Unwilling to see such a fate befall a well loved companion, despite it being extremely one sided, Tai shares their lifeforce with Rui, skirting the lines of the Necromancers code to not bring back the dead in the form that they died. Rui is led on to believe that his potion worked by Tai [who thumbed through his research notes] and doesn't find out the truth until much later. [LIKES & DISLIKES] ✔ Tea ✔ Flora ✔ Good manners ✔ Peace and quiet ✖ Loud noises ✖ Needless death ✖ Wastefulness [ A b i l i t i e s /p e r k s] Empathetic Rui is very well tuned to his fellow sylvari before his eventual loss of connection to the dream after he poisons himself. Mild mannered Able to keep a level head even around the most destraught greivers and in generally perilous situations, his even temprament tends to be quite infectious and helps others around him calm down. It's speculated that the delicate scent from his flower assists with this. Patient Rui is a funeral director and mortician, his work is slow and methodical and he has patience in spades! he's a very good listener as well. Speaks to the dead A more controversial thing that Rui can do, is temporarily raise the dead and speak to them about their cause of death [in the event that theres no witnesses and the resulting body from an incident is in fair enough condition to be reanimated and speak, similarly to the DnD ability!] or, in the event a body isn't claimed by friends or family, he'll raise them to make sure they get closure and the ceremony they would have wanted, free of charge. [Trivia] He has odd horns that stick out of the back of his head, they feel like thorns
He gets quite dry easily. He has a healthier glow and more color to his leaves after a drink.
He lacks a shine in his eyes that is hard to notice, post death. His general appearance in his hands, feet and general leaf shapes across his body are slightly reptilian in appearance, yet still textured like leaves. Rui shares some of Tai's power post resurrection and as a result he can no longer speak to the dead because they just stay reanimated and don't eventually go back to 'sleep'. He has only made this mistake once and is too scared to try it again because of the consequences. Despite being an absolute pacifist, Rui is a reasonably skilled fighter and the reason and origin of this is unknown. I cornered and unable to get out of a confrontation it's very likely to end badly for the aggressor. Rui's minions have little outfits, and names! They also have a mummified appearance and less fleshy than the standard GW2 minions. Buddy, flesh golem Buster and Georgie, bone minions Squiggles, blood fiend Ripley, Bone fiend sometimes he also has jagged horrors that assist him with things, however these minions are temporary and wither away too quickly for him to bother naming them. standing illustration of rui is by https://twitter.com/lohenwolfe
