Rewatching take back the falls, and one little detail made me want to turn to gf's resident watsonian analyst: if bill already told ford his story of how "a monster" (Implying somebody else did it) destroyed his dimension, then why is he studdenly admitting it was actually him who actually 'liberated' it, thus erasing any possible sob story he could cash in to convince ford to give him the equation?
answer one: it's possible Bill already found out somehow that Ford learned who actually destroyed his dimension from the Oracle
answer two: what would the sob story be? "Remember how a monster destroyed my dimension? Yeah, that was sad, right? It's got nothing to do with the situation but could you give me the equation anyway?" At MOST he might could try "I need to invade because I'm homeless :,( please let me out of the barrier" but then (Bill probably expects) Ford would go "what's in it for me/my dimension?" Well, """liberation,""" but Bill has to convince Ford he HAS liberated a dimension successfully
answer three: we know he's told at least some of the Henchmaniacs he liberated his dimension. We know he puts them through grueling hazing when they join the gang and that he claims the immediate pre-portal era torment was just him hazing Ford in preparation for inviting him into the gang. It's possible the "I liberated them" story is part of his standard Henchmaniac-recruitment spiel, and presenting himself like a hero + getting them on board with seeing him that way is, for him, a key part of ensuring his newest minion will view him the way he wants to be viewed. (This has been my headcanon for ages; pleased some evidence in TBOB/TINAWDC can be used to back it up.) Conversely, the moment where he says a monster destroyed his dimension was a brief moment of sincere vulnerability, even buried as it was under subterfuge even then—but that's NOT the image he wants Ford to hold of Bill & his universe, so he has to "correct" it even if it means he's less pitiable. If he's KEEPING Ford, Bill wants his respect & admiration, not his pity.
answer four: Alex has said in an interview that they considered having Bill give a much more convincing (dishonest) speech about how him conquering the world was actually a good thing, and the reason we instead got Bill going "I'll make a more fun world!!" *depicts himself eating earth* is because he's getting impatient & rushing and not up to his peak manipulative abilities. I apply that to everything Bill's doing from the moment he discovers the barrier onward: he's not having fun, he's frustrated, he's getting sloppier and sloppier in his efforts to get the equation, he quickly drops from charming manipulative host offering a deal with the devil, to just plain old torturing Ford (and Bill's been manipulating humans long enough to know torture is one of the worst ways to get them to do what you want), to flat out "give me the equation or I'll kill your family I swear to god I am SO tired I just want that goddamn equation why is this so hard." Just blithely retconning the story he told Ford thirty years ago and thinking YEAH FORD WILL JUST ROLL WITH THAT seems like part of his competence/patience downward spiral.

Do you think killua realizes the intense feelings for gon are actually romantic in nature? He is still a kid, one who was pretty sheltered in life until recently, so I doubt he has a full grasp on the full spectrum of human emotions, especially since he probably had to repress them a lot as a child/interacted very little with people outside of his family.
I personally think he has at least some idea of the nature of his feelings by the time they separate, though it's debatable to what degree. Even though you're totally right that he's grown up isolated from most of society and his emotions were suppressed growing up, he's shown having some awareness of romance and sexuality (examples: his reaction to Leorio wanting to feel up Leroute in the Hunter Exam, knowing what shibari--a type of bondage--is in Yorknew, his panic/misunderstanding about what Gon meant when talking about going on "dates" in the past, and understanding the potential situation with Meruem having Palm/a woman with him in Chimera Ant arc). His parents are married and he does have older siblings, and he presumably had internet access as well, so those might be potential reasons why he's less naive than Gon.
I think the Palm situation may have forced him into some kind of tipping point when thinking about the meaning of his feelings. Plus, he was the one who used the word shinjuu (lovers suicide) to describe what he was planning to do with Gon, which is a word that seems to imply some awareness on his part. Surely he would have heard of that in the context of doomed lovers, which is most commonly how it's used.
There isn't enough to go off of in canon to say for sure he knows, though--and I've discussed lately how the friends vs comrades crisis within him may be "coding" for him trying to understand his romantic feelings, which would lead one to think maybe he doesn't totally understand, or perhaps he's in denial to some degree even if he does partially understand his feelings.
I personally think he has a jumble of thoughts and emotions about it that are hard for him to untangle fully, and they may shift constantly. By Greed Island and beyond he seems pretty smitten, so it's unlikely that he wouldn't notice his feelings and consider what they mean as time goes by, but at the same time he might struggle with admitting it fully to himself, and even if he has internally admitted it to some degree he might go back and forth on how much he's willing to explore or deeply consider it. It's very possible he has some level of shame about it--feeling he "shouldn't" be having these kinds of feelings about his best friend, especially with how vulnerable even just their friendship can be for him.
Post-separation, I could see him grappling with these feelings and trying to push them away, while still trying to preserve the "normal" friendship part of their relationship. After all, in Chimera Ant arc these intense feelings only made things more painful and difficult for him, and I'm sure he believes Gon doesn't reciprocate. I don't think Killua will succeed in getting rid of these feelings even if this is the case--hopefully eventually he'll be able to express them to Gon in some form.
So anyway, that's my half-analysis and half-headcanons on the matter. I go back and forth somewhat myself on how much awareness I think he has about it, but with how analytical and contemplative he is I do think it's something he would internally consider a lot, so it feels unlikely to me that he has no idea at all, especially post-Palm date. I'm curious what others think as well, as there isn't a clear-cut answer for this. Thanks for asking!
#hxh#hunter x hunter#killua#gon#killugon#gonkillu#asks#guyinmink#my posts#meta#headcanons#this is really subjective so I can definitely see people having a variety of opinions#I just think it's a realization he's come to gradually but struggles with a lot and probably tries to push away

Director Cyrano, does the bb academy admit students of any age, much like naranja-uva does? I am considering a transfer soon, but I'm still catching up on college credits during the midyear.
(Ooc side note: also, I am the one that posted the hateful anon. Me thinking it was harmless role-playing is no excuse for triggering traumatic memories of bullying for @bbleague-crispin or @elite-amarys or any of the other blogs. I am absolutely sorry to all of you and will try to be more careful of what I post in the future. I totally understand if you don't accept my apology, I just figured you had a right to know).
Yeah, of course! If you’re able to go to school, and that’s what you’re interested in, we accept everyone! For younger students up to 16 we accept them through the… uh…
Board of education. Yes, thank you, Velly. And for those over 16 is self administration :) so of course you can join us!
Ooc under cut :)
((Hey! It’s totally cool (your honesty is the best part) and I’m assuming the other mods have said this already, but I totally understand where you were coming from. I think a lot of people tend to send these types of things, so don’t worry! And at least you have admitted to your mistakes.
((I don’t mind in character anon hate, just seeing as my mental health is a bit up and down if I were to receive it on a ‘down day’ as such then it could probably do more harm than good. But I will tell everyone when I don’t want to receive it, otherwise I think everyone should have fun, and of course let everyone know where their boundaries lie. If I don’t feel like answering an ask (in this situation anon hate) then I’ll keep it to the side until I feel ready to answer, I guess :)
((Thank you again for your honesty! I love to see everyone getting along around here, we’re quite a close community I feel haha :)
Ps I think Cyrano’s forgotten all about the incident. When he sleeps it’s like a sink drains his brain of all useful information

Precise Confrontation
A short fic about Amarys confronting a school bully. Content warning for threats of violence. Please note this is an off screen post - your characters will not have knowledge of this occuring outside of the described camera footage. That said, they will likely be able to piece together that something happened if they are able to somehow access this footage.
That's all! Hope you like it. Writing Amarys in her feelings is fun, but writing her in Kill Mode is ALSO fun
EDIT: Also this has nothing to do with @guyinmink , who sent the anon that inspired this. They're cool we're all cool. Guy in this story is just a random made up dude I prommy.
21:07
Amarys was precisely on schedule. She always was, but it was particularly important that she stay on schedule this time. She had a very brief window of time to do what she needed to do, and if she fumbled or missed even a second it would ruin everything. But that was why she had to be the one to do it. Drayton would be annoyed that she had taken this task on by herself. It was a task made necessary by her love for her friend, and she knew he would be upset that she had taken sole responsibility for executing that directive without him even though he shared her fondness for Crispin (perhaps even moreso). But Drayton would not have been able to get the necessary information, and even if he had he would have carried out this task without concern for discretion. Which most certainly would have resulted in discipline.
No. That outcome was unacceptable.
Lacey also had the Director’s trust, of course. There was no doubt in Amarys’ mind that she could have gotten the target’s identifying information as well. But Lacey was not suited for this task. She was skilled in diplomacy and negotiation. She was charismatic and likable. She was not the type to confront a bully with force. And, according to Amarys’ analysis, force would be the only thing that would affect actual change.
Amarys had a great deal of respect for Drayton and Lacey. Neither of them were suited to properly handle this task. Amarys could handle confrontation. Amarys had the Director’s trust to get the necessary information. And, most importantly, Amarys had knife-like precision in her timing.
21:10
3 minutes, 16 seconds to navigate the halls towards her destination. She turned a corner and locked eyes on her target. He had left the last meeting of the Architectural Club and taken the average amount of time to walk to his locker. Given the late hour the halls were empty except Amarys and her target, and it was unlikely that anyone else would walk down this exact hall at this exact time. Amarys knew that for a fact - she had checked the schedules of all other members of the Architect club, the teachers of the surrounding classrooms, and the other students whose locker was in this hall. She had calculated this.
21:11
Amarys walked down.the hall, her steps sharp and quick. She walked slightly faster than the average student at Blueberry Academy. It wasn’t long before she was standing directly behind her target. Her heels clicked together as she came to a stop. She pivoted to face him. He hadn’t turned around to look at her yet, he was still preoccupied with his locker.
21:12
The hallway went dark. Every single light shut off at the exact same time, leaving Amarys and her target shielded from the view of the security camera currently facing Amarys’ back. There would be no footage evidence of Amarys’ confrontation. She watched as her target flinched at the sudden darkness, and then spun around to meet her eyes as she stood still as a statue behind him.
“Fucking hell,” he said, jumping backwards at the sight. “Uh, Amarys, right? Do you know what’s going on with the li-”
“812 Bouldevare Avenue, Anville Town.” Amarys did not leave time in her schedule for exchanging pleasantries. She went directly to work.
“Huh? What are you-” he tried to speak again, and was once again cut off.
“2442 Sinclair Drive, Anville Town. 34 Mavis Crescent, Nimbasa City.” Amarys took a step forwards, trapping him between herself and the wall of lockers.
“What the fuck?” He flinched backwards, his back now flush against the steel doors of his own locker. Amarys saw him tense and, predicting an attempt to flee, shot her arm out to block him. Her hand slammed into steel, quick and sharp and strong. She had been correct about his attempt to flee, and he all but crashed into her arm the moment it shot out. “What is your problem?!” Amarys’ eyes had adjusted to the dark, and she could see the fear in her target’s face as he spoke. Good.
“Dorm 3587, Tower C, Blueberry Academy.” She concluded her list. “I assume you know what all four of these places have in common?” Her voice was steady, and did not betray even a hint of the anger she felt while talking to her target. Her eyes, however, with their cold, hard, focus very much did.
“I don’t- I don’t understand. What do you want?” He flinched back further, but did not break his terrified eye contact.
“Hm.” Amarys had hoped he would have made the connection between these addresses for her, but had anticipated his lack of cooperation. Her RotomPhone drifted up out of her pocket to float at eye level, screen facing the target. “Linux.”
There was a slight thud above them. Amarys and her target both turned their gaze upwards to see Linux, Amarys’ Metagross, clinging to the wall above them. They looked somewhat like a large, murderous spider up there, and clearly had no issue holding onto the wall. They had been waiting near the ceiling, keeping out of the view of the camera until their trainer showed up and the lights went out. Now, with the attention of both their trainer and their target on them, they started to crawl down the wall towards the pair. Their legs moved quickly, one at a time, hitting the wall with a low thud as they descended.
Amarys’ target whimpered as Linux approached, but he seemed too frightened to do much else. Linux stopped a couple of feet above the pair, and their eyes gained a faint, red glow as they accessed something on Amarys' RotomPhone. Electronic copies of school records and census files flashed across the screen.
“These are the addresses for your previous residences.” Amarys continued, snapping her target’s attention away from Linux and back to her. “Linux is quite skilled in accessing these kinds of files. I want to ensure that you know that. It does not matter where you go, Linux will be able to track you down.”
She leaned in now, smooth and steady. Her target tried to lean away, but was stopped by the metal locker behind him. Amarys held his gaze, her eyes boring into him. When she spoke her voice was low and dangerous. “It has come to my attention that you enjoy sending vitriol to my friends. Did you think we would not see what you sent to Crispin?”
“No-no. I didn’t- Amarys I-” He stuttered. The hand that Amarys did not currently have planted against the locker shot out, grabbing her target’s chin. She tilted his face up to look at her, pleased that she was taller than him. Her grip was strong, and even though she was not blocking his mouth it was enough to shock him into silence.
“There is no point in lying.”
“I-I-I-I’m sorry, I didn’t think-” His sentence sputtered out on its own this time.
“I see why you prefer to do your bullying from behind a screen. You are unskilled at communication. But let me make one thing perfectly clear.” She paused, blue eyes practically drilling into his.
“If it comes to my attention that you have sent any of my friends this kind of abuse ever again, I will find you wherever you are and I will crack your jaw into pieces simply so that I can wire it shut myself.” Her grip on his jaw tightened to make her point. “Do I make myself clear?”
“Uh-huh.” He grunted, attempting to nod despite her grip on his chin.
“I cannot hear you.”
“Yes! Y-yes, I understand. I’m sorry-”
“Good.” With that Amarys quickly straightened up, releasing her target’s chin and taking a step backwards.
21:16
The lights in the hall suddenly clicked back on, and the camera behind them was blinded by the unexpected brightness. The lens only took a split second to adjust, but it was enough for Amarys to quickly return Linux to their ball, the flash of the return fading just before the moment Amarys knew the camera would have readjusted. She adjusted her glasses, and pulled an envelope out of her bag. She brusquely held it out to her target, who was still leaning against the lockers, shaking and sweating.
“This is a work order.” She announced, returning to her regular demeanor now that the lights had righted themselves and the camera was recording them. “There are several repairs and upgrades we would like to request the Architectural club make to the League Clubroom. You will find an itemized list herein.” She continued to hold the envelope out to her target. He stared at it blankly. “Take it.” She ordered.
He took it. She returned her hands to her sides. “Please send me an email once you have figured out a timeline for these repairs. Goodbye.” She gave him a curt nod, and then pivoted 90 degrees to continue down the hallway, leaving just as suddenly as she had appeared.
As she walked away she mused about her one miscalculation. She had expected him to get violent. Linux was certainly most displeased that he hadn’t. She would have to take him out for a battle soon. Perhaps Crispin would be willing to indulge them.

Do you think TGAMM will ever address how Scratch died, or would that would be a little too deep a subject?
Honestly, if you'd asked me after episode one aired I probably woulda said no. But now? With all the jokes of things dying on-screen and now a tasteful and poignant reference to Kristallnacht????? I'd be more shocked if they didn't.

Have you read the fanfic resilience on ao3? Its basically this story about bradford being a repressed, totally-not-a-villain dad to a baby webby and it seemed to really align with your interpretation of bradford.
I have very recently. Like at the end of last month, I think. I'm actually friends with the author and we have a lot of similar views on Bradford's character. They're a lovely person to talk to and I'm very glad I met them!

If shere Khan evey appeared on Ducktales, who do you think should've voiced him? Obviously, no one is going to be able to match up to the late Tony Jay, but I think, assuming they could've afforded them, Patrick Stewart or Jeremy Irons couldve done a great job.
Idris Elba.
Voiced him in the live action film.
He did a very good job.

Do you believe bill will eventually get better, even if it takes close to an eternity? Or do you think that is just his destiny, to forever be in denial of his mistakes?
I think on a long enough timeline change is inevitable. One way or another, Bill can't stay the same for an eternity.
He isn't necessarily getting better, though. Meds could leave him brain damaged, brain dead, or dead-dead—that's a real risk in psych wards from overmedication, errors, or adverse reactions to drugs, and I doubt Bill would have complained about the place being overmedicated unless the drugs were actually doing something to him. He could crumble under the stress and end up complying with whatever it takes to get him out of there and leave as a broken husk of who he once was. Or he could get more traumatized, more angry, more defiant, more hateful, spiraling on into infinity.
Psychiatric hospitals are, by and large, awful places to be. In fact the only time I've ever seen positive reviews of a psych hospital are from people who have been to multiple and are relieved their latest one is so much better than normal. A very common happy outcome of a psych hospital stay is literally "I absolutely needed to be there and going was the right choice, and I'll be traumatized the rest of my life because of it." And that's when the psych hospital did well.
The Theraprism uses solitary confinement + total sensory deprivation—which humans use as a torture and interrogation technique—as a punishment. I don't think they're doing it well.
I think Bill can improve—mainly because, frankly, at this point there's not a lot of ways left his situation could get worse—but if he does, at this point? It'll be in spite of the Theraprism, not because of it. It's pretty common in psych hospitals (particularly forensic psych hospitals, where all the patients also have the stigma of being criminals) for the treatment to hold patients back more than help. Things like patients that have committed more violent crimes being scrutinized much more than other patients and thus rated as more unwell than other patients displaying the same symptoms. Or patients objecting to taking a med that makes their mental condition worse, and being written up as noncompliant for it and pushed further back from being released until they agree to take the drug that makes them worse. Or patients having innocent behaviors reinterpreted as signs of mental illness ("keeps a journal" = "pathological need to write").
But he could improve. Maybe being cut off from his powers & his enablers will cause him to think over his life for the first time; maybe he'll make actual emotional connections with fellow patients that help him improve; maybe he realizes "this is the worst place ever, I've GOT to turn my life around" and starts checking out self help books from the hospital library. There's even a very slim chance he might get a competent psychiatrist who listens to him, doesn't assume he's incapable of self-insight just because he's mentally ill, and sees him for more than fifteen minutes once in a blue moon—all of which aren't traits you find in psychiatric hospitals as often as you might hope.
Dandelions can grow from the cracks in sidewalks, and people can improve in shitty psych wards.
But I expect the Theraprism will have to reform before Bill reforms.
I expect even more that Bill will find a way to escape before either thing happens.

This is a question that rarely gets asked, but do you think Kikyo Zoldyck has a hidden side to her? I don't necessarily mean a good or softer side, but a reason to explain why she is the way she is? One post I saw brings up the fact that she had grown up in Meteor City, a place where the residents have very warped ideas regarding your place in the world/relationships with loved ones (exhibit A: The Phantom troupe). I'm willing to bet she has a lot lot of generational trauma from growing up in that hellhole and then being whisked off to Kukuroo Mountain as a teen bride (considering she had Illumi when she was 18) in what must have been a very drastic and disorienting change in social standing. Hell, she probably didn't even have parents, or if she did, then they probably weren't really good ones; she literally has no idea what being a mother truly is, and if she had to claw her way up in the world to the point of being able to marry Silva, then no wonder she doesn't bat an eye at torturing her own children (after all, gritting her teeth through all the suffering and hardship worked out great for her in the end, didn't it?). In fact, I wager that is why she (and by extension Illumi) is so fixated on Killua being the heir. Why would her darling son ever give up a life of wealth, privilege, and security? Why won't he appreciate her sacrifices and all that she had to do to get this life? It also adds a lot of dimensions to why Illumi or Kalluto are the most devoted out of all the Zoldycks; since they spent the most time with her, they probably were exposed to her anxieties and fears the most.
Again, none of this is to excuse the abuse or trauma she inflicted on her own children, but it does add a lot of depth to her beyond being a nagging wife.
Thank you for the very thoughtful and fascinating ask!
Togashi tends to imbue his characters with a sense of humanity even when their appearances are brief, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if Kikyo has reasons like this for the person she became and the decisions she makes. Very few characters in HxH can be considered purely "good" or "evil" in any sense--above all, they're portrayed as being humans with their own individual interests and motivations (which are understandable to a degree even in cases where the actions they lead to clearly aren't excusable).
I do like that, even with her small role in the series, we're left with little tidbits of her that are intriguing and in themselves lead to a sense that we can connect a narrative to them--like the fact that she's from Meteor City, must have been young when she married Silva, and the mystery of her visor and why she wears it/what function it might serve exactly. It's entirely probable her background explains her emotional instability and attitude around Killua, though of course at this point we don't have enough info to say for certain what her full backstory might be.
The way you filled in the gaps would make a wonderful basis for a fanfic, honestly!
I'm not sure if we'll ever get more solid info on her in canon with how much remains unanswered and unfinished in the series as it is, but regardless it's amazing how even the small bits of info we're provided on her offer enough for you to put together this compelling writing on how she came to be the way she is and how it affects her children. I would love it if we get more info on her and the rest of the Zoldycks in the future of the series, but regardless this makes a great argument for the potential basis of her character, and it connects well with the facts we do have on her. Thank you for writing this up!

If you had to ask, what would Kyoshi's flaws be? We all know that every Avatar (hell, every human) has one, and as Yangchen/Kuruk shows, she will inevitably leave some sort of fallout that Roku has to deal with. But what kind of problems would she have realistically left for her successor, given that she lived 230 years and wasnt able to fix or solve? ( The Dai Li I think is a non issue given they were still kicking around in aangs time, so Roku probably didn't have to deal with that)
Thanks for the ask @guyinmink!
I would say Nyahitha describes her flaws pretty well: she has no control over her emotions, she’s incredibly stubborn about what she wants, and she idolises Yangchen to a fault.
I would also add:
* Her tendency to go to (often violent and dirty) extremes to get what she wants.
* Her lack of a strong internal moral compass, forcing her to rely on other people such as Rangi to stop her from going too far.
* Her letting her personal feelings influence her thoughts and actions. Her anger toward her parents leads her to being a jerk to Kirima, Wong and Lek whenever they bring up Jesa and Hark, and she treats Lek badly just because she’s resentful and hurt that her parents abandoned her and “replaced” her with Lek. Her attitude and feelings of resentment toward Kuruk block her from communicating with him, which for a long time prevents him from giving her knowledge about Yun and Father Glowworm that she really needs to know.
* Her recklessness and lack of care about her own safety and well-being, which probably stem from her low opinion of herself and her low self-worth.
She also has some deep-seated biases, especially about her parents and Kuruk, that she has to grow out of. She is so fixated on how she thinks and feels about Kuruk and her parents that it’s difficult for anyone to give her a different perspective, because she just won’t listen due to her anger bubbling up. It’s only when she sees Kuruk’s story for herself and learns how Lek met her parents that she finally starts realising that she may have been wrong about them. Her bias against the daofei is also something she has to grow out of.
Her resentment and personal feelings also end up blinding her to the reality in front of her (eg. that she is the Avatar, that Yun isn’t who he used to be and that she won’t be able to bring him back), and are an obstacle she needs to overcome if she is to defeat Yun.
As for the fallout she would leave for Roku, I think her relying on threatening/scaring the political leaders of the Four Nations to keep them in check would cause them to fear and dislike the Avatar and made it harder for Roku to work with them at first.
I can also imagine that her living for over 200 years made the people so used to her and her method of dealing with things that it’s even harder for them to adjust to a new Avatar, so Roku has to really prove himself more than previous Avatars did.
Some conflicts might also break out after her death that Roku has to deal with, directly or indirectly caused by how she dealt with political leaders and criminals while she was alive. Maybe also some spirit-related conflicts break out as well, since it doesn’t look like she really focused much on the spirit world during her lifetime.

All My Native Pokémon Posts
Since I have been asked several times by several students which Pokémon may exist in their local region, I decided to condense all of my answers into one text post similar to the Pokémon in our Biomes Master List.
I encourage all my students to continue asking wonderful questions about which species might be present in their area! Let me know if you would like to know the starters available to your area, the first route rodent or birds, early bugs or cave Pokémon! It has been a lot of fun researching the local landscape and ecology of areas that I personally have not had the pleasure of exploring for myself!
With that being said, have a look at the list below if you are curious about the Pokémon in your area because I may have already written about it. But as always, if you have any other questions about Pokémon Ecology, ideas for new posts, or even just comments and feedback please let me know!
