Who do you think is the best antagonist or anti-hero in literature? Answers will vary based on readers' preferences and likes, but one name I keep hearing and reading about is Thrawn. Introduced by Timothy Zahn in the '90's for Star Wars sequel trilogy (this was the original one before Disney bought Lucasfilm, now its part of the Legends series), many hailed Thrawn as the best antagonist written. He (Thrawn) is compared to Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty, 2 other beloved characters in literature, but IDK so I decided to immerse myself in the Thrawn trilogies myself. Chaos Rising is the 1st in the prequels Thrawn Ascendancy. The next one's, Thrawn Legends, is the 2nd trilogy about him. Both trilogies are adult sci-fi-military-political-thrillers. Chaos Rising gives readers a thorough background of Thrawn's people, their political structure, and technology, but not much insight into his ingenuity, which is part of his charm. He's insanely smart but some of his conclusions have to he held with suspension of belief, which is hard to justify if he doesn't have The Force. This is also written like a non-fiction textbook chapter you'd have to study for history class, which made it clinical and a little dull for me. I liked my history classes but I don't want to feel like I'm studying for an exam! Especially with the amount of times I had to go back and reread some parts. Hey everyone! Can you believe today's the first day of Spring?!? With the Coronavirus Pandemic constantly in the news since last month I forgot Spring starts this week! 🤦🏽‍♀️ It feels kind of surreal to barely see anyone outside, stores closed, and schools physically closed as if we're on a national holiday when - in reality - we're self-isolating due to a pandemic, the news constantly posting updates about confirmed cases, employees being laid off, and some employers holding off on hiring. It's disheartening. On the other hand, I don't get why people are complaining they're "bored," "have nothing to do," or can't "hang out" as if they haven't texted/messaged their friends ALL THE TIME before this! 🤦🏽‍♀️ This is suddenly a problem now that you have to stay home? SMH 😡 Oh well, now's the perfect time to catch up on blog hopping and reading! If you saw my latest blog post I mentioned I am officially finished with my classes and am now in the process of completing my final 😥 Feeling a little jittery but I'm ready to finish this course and move on with my life - aka adulting 😅 I'm SO over school! The Thrawn Ascendancy covers are some of the prettiest I've come across! My other favs are King of Scars and Wintersong. So i've finished Lesser Evil, the 3rd in this trilogy, and will have a review up soon. Overall this trilogy is ok, Greater Good (#2) being the strongest. There's a LOT of political and military world building, which gets tiresome if you're not into it, plus you need time to absorb the info, so try to borrow it from a friend, co-worker, relative, etc. I'm going to take a break, read something light, and then jump into the Thrawn Legends trilogy.
