I have a headcanon that Natasha got her callsign because she was in a nasty crash early in her career where her fighter went up in flames. She managed to escape it but not without getting a horrible burn over her upper back and up into her hair. It eventually healed but she was left with a large burn scar visible above her neckline with a lot of her hair not growing back due to the scar tissue.

She was insecure about it for a while, hesitant to tie her hair up and put her scars on display. But then someone called her "Phoenix" saying that she "rose from the ashes of her fighter" and she gained a whole new level of confidence once the nickname caught on. Eventually, it stuck for good and became her callsign. She wears her hair up often now, proudly showing off her scars, her history.

Totk Zelda is a scientist and engineer in her own right and this is a hill I’m willing to die on.

Now, with that said, I think it would be really cool if she made a gun. Totk gave us zonai cannons, so it’s possible that engineer/scientist Zelda would find a way to miniaturize them and make them handheld.

And imagine if post botw she had made a gun with sheikah tech. Totk could’ve started very differently:

Link, pointing at dehydrated Ganon: Hey Zelda, what’s that over there?

Zelda: Oh shit, basement must be haunted.

Link: Huh??

Zelda, ready to field test her new gun: Basement’s haunted.

Ganon doesn’t stand a chance. My girl will shoot his dehydrated ass point blank, because Zelda is awesome and badass like that.
