"Okay, promise not to freak out?" Kenji clicks open the door, letting you step in behind him.
"What? Do you have a child out of wedlock or something? Cuz that'd just make you an assho—" Your jaw drops at the kaiju in an enclosure, blinking incredulously as your brain struggles to catch up with the information.
Kenji winces as you don't seem to move at all.
"Did you fuck a kaiju?"
"NO." Kenji groans. "I need a babysitter. I'm losing sleep over taking care of her and Mina can only do so much as a robot."
"She looks like she's about to burst into tears because of me. How the hell do you trust me with this?" You raise a brow, taking a step back as the baby pouts.
"Hey, Emi." He steps closer, tapping the glass gently as he motions you over. "This will be your babysitter, alright?"
"Glad you didn't call me mommy." You take a single step closer, holding both of your hands up as Emi tilts her head to blink at you, making a sound.
"Mommy's gonna have to wait for after the first date." Kenji hums. "They're gonna take care of you when daddy's gone, alright? Mina, lower the walls."
The walls around Emi's enclosure fall down, and the kaiju picks you up gently, giving you a shake and squeeze, messing up your hair in the process, but Kenji gives you a thumbs up.
"Take good care of her, will you?"
"Wait, can we circle back to the mommy part. When the hell did I agree on a date?"
"This is our first date."
You raise a brow, still upside down in Emi's grasp, and sigh. "Your daddy's awful."
Which makes Emi burst into tears, but you don't really find it in yourself to care when Ken has to rush over and console her. If he'd play dirty, then you'd do the same. Though, you would have agreed if he didn't take the roundabout way of asking you out.

SO!
As I promised I'm going to be elaborating about my "Ultraman Rising birthing imagery" post. And right now you either are going "Moony, what the fuck are you even talking about?" Or "How could you say something so controversial yet so brave?"
Well my friend, find out under the cut!
Let's roll the clip shall we?
This is the scene in question
First and foremost, Ken's entrance;
As you may have guessed these shots are supposed to symbolize the water breaking. Don't see it yet? Don't worry we're not done.
Secondly, these shots;
The way Ken is laying down, trembling and holding the baby close to his chest is very reminiscent of a person who just gave birth holding their baby close to their chest, for reference;
BUT IS NOT JUST THE POSE! It's the audio too! If you re-watch the videos you can hear Ken is audibly shivering and breathing heavily like he just did a lot of physical exercise. I know I know, it's because he was just swimming, but please keep in mind that all these factors, combined with Emi being just born, it makes the scene LOOK like he just gave birth.
Thirdly, Mina's medical analysis;
When you watch this scene, you quickly come to the realization that it is supposed to be a literal doctor checking on a baby right after they were born. In this case, Mina has no idea what a baby Kaiju should be like, but still makes an effort to help Emi and Ken.
Fourthly, the part where Emi is biting the collar timer;
Now if you go and rewatch the video (again) you can hear how Emi is making suckling noises. Now, I know this because I have been close to babies while they nurse, and they do make noises, not as exaggerated as in the movie, but they do. There's even a little "pop" sound when Ken pulls her away.
And that's about it! If you have something to add, please please please do! I'll be delighted to read your thoughts. And also it would make me look less insane lol.
+Bonus
See how Ken's hands close around new born Emi? 🥹

"friends who have dinner once a week" - 2.5k words
ultraman: rising (2024). kenji sato x reader
master post. ao3 link.
next: ch2. "friends who reconnected and who certainly don't want to be more"
where you're left sitting alone at a restaurant and your best friend thinks it's funny to use ultraman-caused traffic jams as a reason for why he's late.
---
30 minutes. You told yourself 30 minutes.
30 minutes and then you’ll stand and leave because you have the dignity not to wait around.
Because you know that if he doesn’t show up by then, he won’t show up at all.
You are seated at the corner of a neighborhood restaurant. It is family-owned, with recipes that boast three-generation longevity, yet it still maintains a calm and quiet atmosphere at this hour in the evening. Just enough for a celebrity to blend in without risk of being hounded by overeager fans. You have carefully taken this into consideration when you selected the spot. When you had proposed the time and place to him, you particularly noted that he may like their famous yakisoba.
You wonder whether he places as much thought about you as you do with him.
“Hello, are you ready to order?” You are asked. You have only had a water and a side of popcorn karaage.
It’s time. Half an hour of sitting all alone in a booth too big for you was getting a little humiliating. You should stand and go.
“Yeah, I’ll have a platter of the signature yakisoba?”
Oh what the hell.
You gave a smile to the waiter.
“The solo serving?”
“Oh no, I really do mean the platter.” Your smile aches a bit as the waiter kindly reminds you it is good for two to three people. “Yes, I have company.”
And if said company does not show, you will have the noodles packed up and sent to his house. How sweet.
You slump in your seat as the waiter leaves. You’re trying your best to be understanding— you really are, but this is getting too much for you. Your eyes flicker towards the TV above the restaurant bar, playing the news of a Kaiju attack in Roppongi.
Maybe he got stuck due to the traffic? You soothe yourself as the screen shows Ultraman getting struck by the tail of the raging monster.
You scoff. No way. It’s too far from the Dome.
Everyone uses Ultraman as an excuse to be late to work. You will not put it past the amazing Ken Sato to do the same.
He stumbles into the restaurant half a serving of yakisoba later.
You pause mid-chew to watch how his eyes dart all around the restaurant, frantic and panicked. You glare at him even if he can’t see you. You did pick a booth that would be easy to hide in. It is working well in your favor as you see him hopelessly look for you. At least he has the decency to feel bad about arriving an hour and a half late.
He talks to the waiter, who starts guiding him towards your booth. You sit up straighter, ready to give him the coldest shoulder you could muster. Ready to tell him off for his perpetual tardiness. For wasting your time.
His eyes finally meet yours, and his posture fills with relief. “Hey!” He leaves the waiter behind as he jogs towards your table. Fuck.
“Took you long enough.” You do not know why you greet him so warmly as you stand up, and he leans in to give you a side hug before sliding into the booth with you.
“I was so scared for a minute that you already left.”
Your smile stretches a little tighter. “I was just waiting for your usual text saying you can’t make it. I guess I got a little worried since you didn’t send me anything this time, Ken.” You try to keep your voice even and pleasant, wrestling down any inner goblin that threatens to spill out what you truly feel.
“I am so sorry, it was a little traffic with the KDF and the Kaiju business. Got really distracted trying to dodge the debris on my bike.” He sounds genuinely apologetic. He always does.
“Did you see Ultraman?” You ask.
“Huh? What about him?” He has a little jump at the start.
“He fought the Kaiju?” You tilt your head. “In the middle of the streets.”
“Oh yeah, he did. Quite heroic I must say, from what I saw.”
You wish you could call him out for lying like that to your face, but you notice the rigidity of his shoulders and the forming bruise on his face. You decide to let it go. Again.
“Rough practice?” You say, sympathetic. He looks like a wreck. Maybe he just lied so I wouldn’t have to worry.
Ken makes an exaggerated stretch, his cocky attitude seemingly unbruised. “You could say that again. But don’t worry, I’m on top of my game.”
You remember the news coverage of the past few weeks saying that he is at an all-time low in his career. Every poorly timed dive into the dirt and rough swing of his bat have been televised for the nation to see. He notices the concern etched in a growing frown you couldn’t control.
Even if it has been a few months since he arrived in Japan, he knows you well enough to brace himself for your eventual comments about his deep-set eye bags. You don’t say anything.
“Yakisoba?” You push the platter towards him. “The noodles aren’t that warm anymore though.”
“I’ll be fine. Haven’t eaten all day so I just need something in my gut.” He waves off your comment as he begins feasting like a man starved. He groans, delighted with the savory sauce and chewy noodles. “Man, you sure know how to pick ‘em.”
Your chest puffs a bit at the compliment. You were about to reply when his watch beeps red. You glance down at the watch face as it says ‘CHECK-UP NOW’ at the front. “Am I keeping you from an appointment?”
He inhales two more mouthfuls before saying “Nah. Wanted to get here as soon as possible. I’ll get to it after we call it a night.”
“You’re keeping your doctor waiting?”
He snorts, holding his chopsticks in one hand and reaching for his water with the other. “She’ll manage. I want to be here with you.”
On any other day that would have warmed you up, but this time it left a sour taste on your mouth. “Really? I wouldn’t have been able to tell.” You say before you could stop yourself.
He pauses, before setting down his glass. “Huh? What do you mean by that?”
You panic. You do not want it to come out like this. Avoiding eye contact, you fumble to find the right words. “I-It’s just…you’ve been leaving me hanging lately that it…yeah.” You finish lamely.
“Ah…” He looks like he got slapped across the face, cringing from the guilt. “I’m so sorry— I don’t mean to. You know how much you mean to me. You’ve been my only friend since I’ve moved back here.”
“Only?” You cannot believe it. It has been more than two decades since the two of you were sneaking around his father’s laboratory, trading baseball cards underneath a steel table as your parents discussed science and business. More than two decades of him in the States, where the only contact with each other is limited to video calls and your occasional family trips to Los Angeles (you do not count your impulsive flights).
He sucks in air through his teeth. “Hurts to admit it but yeah. I haven’t…vibed with anyone else lately. I’ve just been swamped with all this work and—“ he took a deep breath. “—At least I didn’t leave you hanging tonight?”
You bite your tongue. Not now. Don’t say anything now. He obviously has so much on his plate.
But can’t he understand that you are busy too?
“Yay…?” Fuck. Why do you sound like that?
He fully put down his chopsticks now. “You’re kind of off tonight.”
“Oh, I’m off?” You feigned ignorance.
“Yeah…you have a problem?” He raised one perfectly sculpted eyebrow.
“I should be asking you,” You try to be sincere, because you are. You are worried about how hard he has been pushing himself lately. Instead, your words are stilted, defensive. “Well…You…”
“Me…?”
“I— I mean how has adjusting back home been?”
He seems uncomfortable when you say the word home . Ah. You slump back into your seat, cursing yourself for making this awkward.
“You don’t have to answer that I just…”
“Is this about my stats?” His words are sudden, cutting.
You blink, lost at the direction this conversation is suddenly going. “I’m sorry?”
“Because I’m well aware this is my weakest season and I don’t need a lecture from you right now about how it’s been going.” The yakisoba was growing cold on the table.
“Kenji you know I hate talking about business when it’s just the two of us. This isn’t about your play.”
“Oh so this meeting wasn’t about pulling my player sponsorship?” He barked sarcastically. “Because that’s just what I needed! On top of the threat from Coach to trade me to the Tigers. Me, Ken Sato. Traded!”
You throw your hand up, signaling a pause. “Woah slow down, I don’t know anything about that. You’re going to the Tigers?”
“No!” He snaps. “My coach just threatened me.”
“Why would he threaten you?”
“Because of my stats this season! God I thought you were paying attention.”
“I am! I have to because I have to monitor your progress.”
“So this is about your sponsorship.”
“It’s not about the sponsorship! I only wanted to see you!” Your heart is pounding. You forgot he can get mean. Really mean. You know he was like this but he was never like this with you. “Fuck, man, can’t we just be friends who meet up for dinner once a week?”
He senses his mistake, and tries to reel himself back in even if he already got himself worked up and overheated. “I just don’t need another thing on my plate right now. Hell, I didn’t feel like going tonight but I dragged myself out here for you.”
If he can be short-tempered, so can you. “Do you want a fucking medal?”
“I didn’t say that.”
“If you don’t want to see me then I think we’re done here.” You grab your bag and stand up. “I paid for the meal already. Get it packed. It’s still good microwaved.”
“Where are you going? Sit down.” He begins standing up himself. “I didn’t mean it.”
The waiter stands awkwardly nearby, unsure about whether he should intervene. Both of them are drawing attention. Some other dining customers surreptitiously pull out their phones. That’s the baseball player right? Ken Sato. And that’s the scion of the—
He follows closely behind as you leave the restaurant. You see your bodyguards already preparing the car to leave, but before you can approach them he quickly grabs your wrist. “Wait. Please.”
Sighing, you turn around to face him.
“Can we talk?” He was careful with his words this time. “My bike is parked there. Can you at least hear me out before you go?”
“Kenji–”
“ Please .”
Something is different about him tonight. Or maybe it didn’t start tonight, but it has been like this ever since the season started. For a moment, you can place yourself in his shoes. You feel his constricted breaths, his fatigue. Something is wrong.
“Okay.” You signal to your guards to wait, before following him towards his bike.
The gravel crunches beneath you both. He leans against his bike as you stand in front of him, arms crossed.
He takes a breath, before saying a concise “I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“For talking to you like that.”
“I didn’t realize the famous Ken Sato apologized.”
He scowls. “Can you make this anymore difficult?”
“Okay, okay. I’ll ease up. Now what’s going on with you?”
He wrings his hands in the air before letting them fall to his sides. “I … A lot has been going on. I can’t explain everything but. I know that I’ve been messing up a lot lately and I really don’t want to mess this up too.”
“Kenji,” you say softly, taking a step forward. “You’re an ass but we’re still friends.”
He groaned. “God thank you”
“Wait,” you cut him off. “I’m still…hurt.”
He stood up straight at your words.
You shrug. “I have also been really busy. It isn’t easy following in my dad’s shoes, running the family business. I’ve only been doing this for a few months and already I feel like I’m ready to quit.”
Ken laughs. “I understand that way more than you realize.” There is a hidden meaning behind his words that you’re not sure you can pinpoint at the moment.
“Despite all that, I also know that I want to reconnect with you. It’s been so long since we’ve been in the same location, and I knew it would be hard for you to adjust back to living here. I want you to feel like you can rely on me but now it feels like I’m only a second thought when I constantly put in the effort to put you as a priority.”
“You’re my oldest friend,” he admits. “I didn’t mean for you to feel like that.”
“I know you didn’t and that’s the worst part.” You are somber.
“I can’t— I can’t put in the time to fix this now.” He is resigned, yet realistic about what he can offer at the moment. “But please give me time.”
You nod, bringing up a hand to rest on his arm. “Kenji, I’m not the type of person to abandon a friend when he’s obviously going through something. It hurts but I understand.”
The relief seems too much on his body that he takes a step forward and engulfs you. You hear your guards at a distance start to shuffle forward, but your hand signals for them to stand down before you return Ken’s shaky embrace. He is hunched over to rest his forehead on your shoulder.
“If you need me, all you have to do is say so…” You murmur close to his ear. “I’ll give you the space you need, just don’t forget that I’m here for you.”
He seems to shake a bit more in your hold, almost as if he’s struggling not to cry. He doesn’t though, and he releases you from his arms. “I’ll call you?” His voice much smaller than normal.
“The famous Ken Sato? Calling me?”
He cracks a smile, rolling his eyes. “Shut up. I’ll email your secretary for your availability so that the next time we meet, I will be the one adjusting to you.”
Huh. “That’s…oddly considerate of you.”
“You act like I’m normally not.”
“...So you’ll send an email?” You quickly change the subject, which doesn’t go unnoticed by him.
“I am considerate!” He defends himself.
Both of you stand in the parking lot well longer than a few minutes. You have said your goodbyes at least three times by then, but it is natural after the tense moment in the restaurant to just take in each other’s presence. You wave him off as he finally got onto his bike, exchanging promises that you will give each other time to figure out whatever you both needed to figure out. You trace the red of his rearlight through the streets until it no longer could be seen.

why I think Ultraman:Rising a one of the better movies in the last months
I watch ALOT of movies, and im not joking, I have alot of free time. and recently I have taken notice that alot of movies, especially animated ones, feel rushed. MAJOR SPOILER ALERT ultra man rising although a long movie, feels really slow. you get to meet Ken Sato. a cocky baseball player, but also; Ultraman! he accidentally picks up a kaiju baby, and is asked to raise it till the baby can go back to its native land, all while fighting the KGB.
ken sato is a cocky baseball player playing for ‘the giants’, with no family, and no friends. he is confident and full of himself, and sure he will make the Giants Great again. all on his own. he doesnt care about his team, and he doesnt care about his reputation. the night of his game he has to work on a Kaiju attack where he saves kaiju baby and takes them to his base. keeping it safe from the KGB, who want to use the baby to find Kaiju Island and kill all Kaiju
i've watched this movie on repeat since it came out, the buildup of the story and the small details and secrets that get revealed as the story progresses keep you guessing and grasping for more. the movie lets you form an attachment to the character, and doesnt rush you by telling you all the ‘lore’ as quickly as possible and then moving on to the problem and how they solve it.
Ami seems to play a key role in Ken his development, the ‘off the record chat’ seems to open his mind. he asks her how she juggles her job and kid, since he is having a hard time with it. ami says “...they are trying to discover who they are, and what they want. and the only support they have; is us. imperfect messed up us dealing with our own issues. trying to figure out who we are…”
this strikes ken to free the baby Kaiju, and teaches her Baseball. with trial and error the baby kaiju, named Emi later. explore their bond. safely in the base. the next day when Ken is on a promised follow up interview with Ami, Emi gets out of the base, follows a blip with one of Satos commercials on it. and climbs a tower. ken saves her for falling but breaks her arm in the process and has to ask his dad for help. all of this happens in roughly a hour, see how much that is? how much ive written down about Ken sato and how you got to know him? now this is not all that is shown in the movie, so do watch it if you havent. because this is just the tip of the iceberg. and there is another hour left.
and in that hour, Emi changes and learns alot. Ken his dad gets more involved. and i havent even mentioned the AI robot that helps ken during this first half of the movie. i dont mention the KGB and their underlying motive. this movie offers so much compared to others ive watched. lets take for example disneys Wish. (dont come at me disney i do still love you) it was fast, i barely got the plot the first time around and i felt rushed and hurried. i watched Wish $ times i still dont really get it. and feel like i havent seen all of the movie. and not just disney, but alot of ‘BIG’ companies lately, have made rushed movies that werent thought through. the story isnt rich and flavourful Pho. but more like a diluted murky beef broth, still good, but less satisfying. the animated movie industry ahs been through some hardship lately, new techniques. and mostly the animators, who work hard for little pay, under alot of stress to make good content cause our attention span doesnt last. and the internet is fast paced. ive made animations, by hand, and its so hard to get it looking good. im here to tell you, Ultraman;Rising is the movie id show people when they ask me “what do you want to do as an animator?” and i say “make something as good as this is.”
id also like to make it clear that yes, there are good if not better OTHER animated movies, but this is recent and is the best example in the moment.

Ultraman: Rising!
Sure we all know the Power Rangers reboot has been passed on at Netflix but instead we have this hot new piece of toku instead: Ultraman: Rising! And I finally got the chance to check it out last night.
I know Ultraman is one of the big toku/kaiju genre staples but it's never really been on my radar of things to watch. I'm not sure why! I guess Super Sentai/Power Rangers just has more of the it factor that appeals to me. So because of that I really have no context to the story besides it's a guy who can turn into a giant silver superhero that beats up kaiju.........or maybe it's an alien who looks like a human and the silver superhero is his true form? or maybe the human and the silver superhero are two separate beings that share the same body? idk. It's probably all three of those things depending on the series. But this film was marketed as a standalone that new fans could enjoy AND....the big one.....it's ANIMATED, so I felt more inclined to check it out.
And it was really really good!! I enjoyed it a lot!
Spoiler-ish thoughts on the film below:
= Let's get this out of the way: the biggest draw to this was the animation and art direction, and yeah, it slaps. The textures and stylization (always love 2D painted effect animation on explosions and things) and lighting were a full-course meal and the scenes where they focused on Ultraman's shining eyes staring through a window or computer screen were just SO striking. To the point where I feel that if I got around to watching the actual live-action Ultraman, it might feel a little underwhelming in comparison. Oops
= It does kind of fall in the cliches of the "selfish guy learns maturity by having to be a father" plot (with bonus "son is estranged from his dad and mom is missing but they work to improve their relationship" sprinkled in) which makes me appreciate The Return even more (sorry, I'm still Returnpilled) but it's still charming and I can hope if we get more movies they give a little more focus to Ami and Emiko (speaking of which, I know they weren't doing a romance this movie, but Ami having a daughter and the movie being about Ken raising a daughter? oh you know it's happening and I'm here for this because they're both so hot)
= I think Ken is also a better example of the "showboating egotistical hero who learns to mature" than most because the movie isn't afraid to show him vulnerable even before his character development. I was genuinely surprised at that scene where he starts crying out of the stress of balancing his baseball career and figuring out Emi
= Apparently there was some discussion that the movie didn't bring up Ultraman's origins which, as someone who knows next to nothing about Ultraman, that didn't really bother me? Obviously I can still give more benefit of the doubt than people who don't know much about the tokusatsu/kaiju genre to begin with, but even so, I was still pretty down with the concept of "this guy has the ability to turn into a giant silver superpowered man and passed the ability down to his son" - and I think in the age of superhero blockbusters in general the idea isn't that farfetched that it requires more explanation. In any case it's a bit of a moot point since future movies are clearly going to talk about Ultras and their origins more, based on the stinger.
= Is Emi a clear kid-appeal character meant to be shown off in marketing and merchandising because of how squishy and cute she is? Yes. Is she just so fucking squishy and cute and my newest baby child? YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES. I am not immune to monster baby. I think it helps that I always found the old monster screeches cute and applying them to a baby babbling was kinda genius in its execution. And I'm glad they kind of got the obligatory "haha babies poop and are smelly and gross" jokes out of the way early (yeah they had the whole "acid reflux" thing in the second act but I've seen way worse in other media)
= The subtitles calling Sato's Ultra form "Ultradad" and his Ultra mustache were both really funny
= Obviously I knew Ken wasn't going to die when he threw himself on Dr. Onda's mech (btw the mech was sexy) but I definitely expected a little more than just a busted arm with how they were building up how the blast would have "destroyed them all" kdjkfdj maybe they cut to after he had recovered a bit. Though in general I'm not quite sure of how durable Ultraman is
= Kind of a milf. reblog

Ultraman Rising
To The Stars and Beyond
Chapter 1: Bitter Reunion
Summary: Ken Sato has come back to Japan from LA to assume the role of Ultraman. While fulfilling his responsibilities as Ultraman, he has taken in a baby kaiju he discovered when Gigantron escaped from the KDF. Unexpectedly, he encounters his childhood friend and crush, Mireya Sayuri, an aspiring artist and photographer. However, their friendship is strained. Will their bond be reignited, or will it develop into something more?
A/N: Posting this again on Tumblr! This is my very first Ultraman Rising fanfic, I do hope that you will all like it as much as I do! After watching Ultraman Rising on Netflix, I became obsessed with Ken Sato and I just got started to write my own fanfic!
Anyway, enough of me babbling, please do enjoy reading my fic! There will be more chapters coming up soon! Hope you'll enjoy this fanfic as much as I do!
He was exhausted from looking after the baby. He was tired! Baseball, practice, watching over her, and making sure she gets fed. She does everything a human baby does! They never stop! He sighed deeply as he walked out of the elevator. A small smile crept onto his face as he discovered her peacefully sleeping in the basement. He took a sip of his coffee after a moment. Ken looked at the time from his watch and saw it was only 7 pm.
Ken pondered his options while the baby was asleep soundly. “Ken, if you want, I can watch over her, and you have some time for yourself.” Mina offered.
His eyes widened slightly and turned to the smooth orb beside him. “You sure, Mina? I don’t mind staying a bit longer.”
“I am sure. Go have some time for yourself.” Mina replied.
Ken pondered over the thought and glanced at the baby before sipping more of his coffee. A break wouldn’t be so bad. He shrugged. “Well, uh, I guess I would have some me time then. If something does happen, ping me.”
“Of course.” Mina nodded before turning her full attention to Emi.
After an hour of preparation, Ken rode his motorcycle around. He longed for Japan - the lights, the scenery, the food, everything. He cherished it. It was also where he met his first friend. He often pondered about her whereabouts and well-being. He parked his motorcycle in front of a museum.
Ken took off his helmet and entered wearing a baseball cap. He preferred not to attract attention when out. While he enjoyed his fans, sometimes it became overwhelming. He sought out places with fewer crowds. He strolled through the museum displays before heading to the art section. Ken grinned at the memory of accidentally spilling paint on his best friend, who then retaliated by splattering some on his face. He noticed photographers capturing a painting.
He stepped aside, allowing others to view the painting. Ken tilted his head to get a better look. His smile widened upon seeing a painting of a traditional Japanese temple surrounded by cherry blossoms at night.
Turning to the side, he noticed a lone woman gazing at a painting of the night sky with comets streaking across. He stood quietly beside her, appreciating the artwork in silence.
In the corner of his eye, he noticed a familiar woven keychain on a purse and caught a glimpse of her face before she turned away to look at another painting on the wall. Ken reached out but hesitated, not wanting to draw attention from the other people inside. He clenched his fists in his pocket. Kenji walked around the bench and lowered his head. He wasn’t sure whether he should talk to her after everything he had said during their childhood. Her name was Mireya Sayuri. She was his first friend in Japan, and she never judged him for who he was. And he never judged her for who she was.
He once saved her from bullies who were mocking her for looking different. Kenji defended her from all the bullies, and they became the closest of friends. They used to play together constantly. Even their mother’s scheduled playdates before he moved to LA. One day, he felt remorse for hurting her feelings and never had the opportunity to ask for her forgiveness.
Ken managed to sneak through the crowd, deciding it wasn't worth approaching her. He observed her heading towards the painting of the temple he had seen earlier and then noticed the signature in the corner. She had fulfilled her dream of becoming a painter. He smiled proudly and admired the painting once more. This was her night, her special event. Ken turned around and unintentionally collided with a server, his eyes widening as the drinks spilled on Mireya's dress, ruining her special night.
All of the guests gasped in shock and the security guard came to her aid. “Oh my god. I’m so sorry!” Ken immediately apologised.
He heard her softly sigh before their eyes finally locked. He found himself captivated by her brown eyes. He was about to say something, but she glared at him. “So, you came here to ruin this event because you heard I was here?”
Ken frowned, taken aback by her fearless demeanour and then scoffed. “W-What? No!”
Mireya rolled her eyes and left even before he even attempted to apologise. He groaned lightly. “Dang it! Mireya! Reya, wait––“
“Sato-san! Can you please sign my autograph?”
“Could we please take a photo together?”
Ken found himself surrounded by fans and guests inside the museum. Just as he longed for some peace, he also looked forward to reuniting with his childhood friend, who had grown into a successful and talented artist. It was shaping up to be a long night for him, and he yearned to return home, away from the bustling crowd.
Hours later after returning home, he looked through the albums that his mom put together. Ken chuckled when he saw a photo of him and Mireya playing at the beach, playing baseball with his dad. He brushed his fingers against the photograph with a wave of nostalgia.
“Hey, Mina?”
“Yes, Ken?”
Ken closed the album and set it on the floor next to him. “Did––Did you know Mireya had to move?”
“I am sorry, Ken. But I didn’t know that she moved away.” Mina replied.
Ken sighed softly and rubbed his eyes, stood up to his feet and rested his hands on his hips. “Ugh, I ruined her special night and now, she won’t talk or look at me now.”
“Perhaps, you should talk to her again and apologise to her,” Mina suggested.
Ken scoffed softly, shaking his head. “No, after tonight, she might not want to talk to me at all. Besides, she has her own life and I have my own.”
(~)
Ken winced in pain and massaged his shoulder. His game today was not going very well. He could barely keep his eyes open and couldn’t catch the ball. He was still exhausted after watching over the baby kaiju in the containment unit.
Right now, he could use a nice and cold bath to––“WHOA!” Ken stopped his bike when he saw Mireya right in front of his house and he was gonna crash into her if he didn’t stop in time. “What the hell, Reya?!”
“Don’t call me Reya.” Mireya crossed her arms.
Ken sighed sharply before taking off his helmet and running his hand through his hair. He chuckled nervously. “Hi.” He sat on his motorcycle in silence before he glanced at his house. “Do you...I don’t know, want some curry? I could cook. Just like the way our moms cooked––“
“I came here to give you all these,” Mireya said interrupting him and grabbing a box filled with his old childhood toys and books.
Ken frowned. “What? Wait, Rey––Mireya! Please, look I am sorry about the other night. I-I didn’t know that you were back in Japan. I-I missed you.”
“Missed me? After everything you’ve said?” Mireya asked, clearly hurt by what he had done. “You said you wouldn’t be friends with someone like me. Well, after seeing you on TV, I would not be friends with a cocky, selfish, ignorant, hot-tempered and egotistical man like you.”
Ken scowled, overwhelmed with anger and frustration before releasing it all. “Well, I wouldn’t like to be friends with someone who left without saying a word and abandoned me! You didn’t even bother to tell me, your only best friend, what was going on! Maybe you were just too afraid to even say it to my face!”
Silence and tension filled the air as his eyes widened in shock and dread of what he had said. Mireya gasped in shock at his words, which only served to worsen the situation. Ken's shoulders tensed; his eyes filled with guilt looking into Mireya’s brown eyes. “Reya, oh my god, I––“
Before he could apologise, he was slapped by Mireya in the face hard. He looked back at her as she breathed heavily and walked back to her car. Ken watched her drive away in her car before he let out a frustrated yell and kicked the ground in anger. Could his life get any worse?!
Later, following his brief interaction with Mireya, he released some tension by practising baseball swings in the basement. The confrontation during today's game and their argument only fuelled his emotions further. Ken shouted out and swung his bat until the virtual simulation vanished, leaving him facing the infant's and Mina's worried gazes.
He breathed heavily and steadily, then closed his eyes to calm himself down. “I’m sorry. It’s been a long day.”
“It is alright, Ken. I understand that your reunion with your childhood friend wasn’t all that you hoped for.” Mina said.
Ken shook his head. “It’s fine, Mina. It was my fault. All I do is make her even more mad at me. She’s different now, Mina. She was shy when I met her. Now she’s feisty, stubborn and well, hard-headed.”
“And so, did you like her back then?” Mina wondered.
Ken sat back down on the couch before looking back at Mina. He opened his mouth to answer her but didn’t get the words out. He sighed softly and buried his face in his hands. He remembered he had a crush on her. Okay, a huge crush on her. And looking at her now, god, she looked even more beautiful. Talented and feisty.
Ken leaned back on the couch and nodded. “I...I did. But that’s in the past, cause we’re not friends anymore after our big fight from earlier. I am Ken Sato, a famous baseball player. I don’t need her or talk to her anymore.”
(~)
The next morning, he fed the baby kaiju before he went for his photoshoot with his team. He needed to look good but still felt very sore after doing his Ultraman duties that he never wanted to do but he was asked by his mom to take up the mantle after his dad retired and got himself hurt. He walked through the hallways before his eyes widened when he saw Mireya was with the photography crew.
Why today of all days?! He sighed steadily and nodded to himself. He’s got this. He can do this. Ken approached the photography crew and greeted them politely before his eyes landed on Mireya who had a neutral expression.
All day he had tried to talk to her but she wouldn’t go anywhere near her. So, that goes to show that she doesn’t want to talk with him. Maybe it was for the best. Ken was in the locker room, taking a break and heard his teammates speaking among themselves and crowded the door.
He raised an eyebrow at them. “Hey, what’s going on?”
“Miss Sayuri is in the hallway, check it out. She looks hot!” exclaimed one of his teammates chuckling softly.
Ken tightened his jaw and gazed down the hallways, where Mireya was engaged in conversation with the other photographers and crew members. He noted her outfit and watched as she sorted through some photographs. He could see her dedication to her work and couldn't help but smile to himself at how much she had matured and...become more beautiful. Wait, was he really thinking that? He let out a soft groan and shifted his attention to his teammates, who were also watching her.
“So, you think she has a boyfriend or what?”
“She’s not married either. I see no ring.”
Ken couldn't explain why he felt protective of her. He disliked how other men in the hallways stared at her as if she were a prize. However, he couldn't intervene. He and she were not on speaking terms and were unlikely to become friends again.
“Alright, you lot. Get ready for your photos. Sato, you are with Miss Sayuri.” Coach Shimura announced before instructing the other players to go into separate rooms to go on with their photoshoots.
Kenji turned to Mireya who also looked shocked that she would be the one to handle his photos. He could hear his teammates groaning and muttering in disappointment. He could feel his heart beating rapidly but he shook it off before putting a smirk on his face.
“Hey...looks like we’ll be paired off for the photos.” Ken winked at her. “Looks like we’re stuck together.”
Mireya rolled her eyes. “Mr Sato, if you could follow me please.”
Ken kept quiet and followed her to one of the private rooms. He saw all types of equipment in the room and then saw her laptop filled with photos of the Giants, Coach Shimura and him warming up in the field.
“Wow, these look good.” Ken complimented.
Silence filled the room and he glanced over his shoulder before sighing softly and taking off his helmet. “Mireya. Look, I want to apologise for what I’ve said. It was...uncalled for and I shouldn’t have said it. I was so angry at myself and I...” He sighed sharply. “I’m trying here.”
He saw her turning around with her hand on her hip and leaning against the table behind her. “And I should be apologising for slapping you in the face.”
Ken chuckled softly and waved it off. “Well, I do deserve that slap, though. That was a really good one, I should say.”
Mireya chuckled and bit her lips. “You have changed, have you?”
“Changed?” Ken playfully placed his hand over his chest. “Baby girl, I haven’t changed a single bit. I’m still the same Kenji you knew. But as a famous baseball player, that is.”
Ken heard her chuckling softly and saw her rolling her eyes before he was handed a baseball bat. He stared down into her eyes and realised how much he had grown a bit taller than she was now. He could see her brown eyes clearly and the world just stopped when they stood close to one another.
Mireya cleared her throat. “Um, just stand in front of the paper and we’ll get started.”
“Y-Yeah. I’ll do that.” Kenji nodded and stood in front of the sheets. “So, should I pose or...?”
“Whenever you are ready,” Mireya replied, grabbing her camera.
Ken nodded and posed with the bat resting on the back of his neck. His feet were apart, and he smiled while winking at her. He could tell she enjoyed seeing his confidence. She snapped photos continuously while Kenji switched to another position, holding the bat as if he were about to hit the ball.
After a few minutes, the photo session concluded, and Ken examined the photos with a smirk. “Wow, these are amazing!”
“Thank you, Mr Sato.” Mireya smiled softly.
“Reya, come on, no need for formalities when we do know each other.” Ken grinned at her.
Mireya shook her head with amusement. “You are one to never give up and like to challenge.”
Ken shrugged with a smirk on his face. “You know me too well, Reya. Now, what are you going to do with these?”
“They’ll be printed for the magazine. Later on, we’ll do a group photo with your teammates and Coach Shimura out in the field.” Mireya explained as she cleared up the table until her notebook fell on the floor.
Kenji and Mireya both bent down to grab the book and had their hands touching one another. He looked up at her and saw her looking down at their hands before gazing at him. He didn’t realise how close their faces were. He gulped softly and gazed at her lips, slowly leaning in before he heard a knock on the door.
“Mire? Are you about finished? Everyone is getting ready for the photoshoot in the field.”
“Um, yes we are!” Mireya answered and stood up while rubbing her hands together nervously.
Kenji stood up and passed her notebook back to her gently. “Here.”
“Thank you.” Mireya grabbed her notebook back before putting it back in her bag.
(~)
Later after practice and the photoshoot, Ken waited near the entrance on his motorbike and saw Mireya coming out with her co-workers. He put his hands in his pockets and approached her. “Hey, good work out there.”
“And you too, Mr––Ken.” Mireya chuckled nervously.
“Ah, see you remember to call me by my name. I’m touched.” Kenji playfully smirked at him.
Mireya rolled her eyes yet again before crossing her arms again. “What do you need Ken? The photoshoot is over. You are free to go home.”
“Well, I thought, maybe I don’t know, go to Tonkatsu Tonki, the same place we used to go with our moms. It’s my treat.” Kenji offered. He hoped to talk more and wanted to ease the tension between them.
“Oh, uh, I already made plans with my friends. I’m sorry.” Mireya apologised, pushing back her hair behind her ear.
Ken nodded in understanding and waved it off. “Nah, it’s okay, I understand. Figured you would spend your time with your friends.”
Then he saw a taller man walking up to Mireya and frowned at him, felt a pang of jealousy coursing through his veins and turned to his childhood best friend. “I’m sorry who are you?”
“Oh, I am Daisuke. One of Mireya’s assistants. I heard about you, Ken Sato.” Daisuke introduced himself.
Ken reluctantly shook his hand before turning towards Mireya who smiled awkwardly. He could tell she was uncomfortable and tried to move away from Daisuke’s grasp. He clenched his fists in his pocket and turned to Daisuke. “You heard of me?”
“Yeah, also, great game out there. It’s a shame no one can see the great Ken Sato continue his game when that monster appeared.” Daisuke chuckled.
“Heck, yeah, it was a great game until the kaiju interrupted it.” Ken remained composed, resisting the urge to confront or physically harm him for causing Mireya distress. “So, you and Mireya are friends?”
“Friends?” Daisuke scoffed. “She and I go way back. The two of us will catch up, won’t we darling?”
Ken glanced at Mireya, who gazed into his eyes as if silently seeking help. He became entranced by her eyes before Daisuke approached her, attempting to kiss her with a smirk. That was the last straw. Ken was about to punch Daisuke until he witnessed Mireya kneeing Daisuke in the groin.
“Oh....why?” Daisuke whined bending down, holding his crotch in pain.
Ken’s eyes widened and a smirk grew on his face. He was impressed by this change and he was proud that Mireya stood up for herself against the guy. In the corner of his eye, he saw Mireya’s friends coming to join in kicking his ass.
Once Daisuke was gone, Mireya let out a sigh of relief and he turned towards her, placing a hand on her shoulder gently. “You okay?”
Mireya nodded slowly. “I will be.”
Kenji watched Mireya’s friends scare Daisuke off. He sighed and turned towards her. “Let me take you home.”
“Oh, no it’s fine.” Mireya shook her head.
Kenji frowned and crossed his arms. “Seriously. It’s the least I could do.”
“I hope you are aware that I can look after myself.” Mireya mirrored his stance with her arms crossed.
Ken grinned, appreciating her sass and determination. He knew that she would be stubborn to ask for help. He chuckled and shook his head in amusement before stepping closer to her, just a few feet apart. “Well, I do not like you walking home alone.”
Mireya huffed and turned to her friends who silently encouraged her to go with him. He smirked before chuckling softly. “Your friends seem to agree with me.”
She rolled her eyes and ran her hand through her long hair. She couldn’t believe what was happening right now. “Fine! Fine! I’ll go with you. Only to get you to get off my back.”
Ken smirked triumphantly before grabbing a spare helmet from his motorcycle. It was a small white helmet and showed it to her. “Here...A spare helmet so your pretty head won’t get injured.”
She grabbed the helmet from his hand, and he chuckled in amusement. Ken donned his helmet and mounted his bike with her behind him. “Okay, hold on.”
“To what?” Mireya raised an eyebrow.
“Don’t you trust me, baby girl?” Ken winked at her, teasing her.
The response he got from Mireya was a slap on his head. He let out a breathy chuckle and revved up his bike. “Just wrap your arms around my waist. And I promise I won’t let you fall, baby girl.”
“Don’t call me, baby girl.” Mireya huffed, wrapping her arms around his waist.
The strength in her arms almost made him lose his balance on the motorcycle. He was unsure why his heart was racing. He released a calm breath. Ken focused on safely taking her home. “You might wanna hold on and navigate me where your house is, okay?”
Ken drove through downtown and returned Mireya to her home. He parked his motorcycle in front of her house, removed his helmet, and then turned to assist her in dismounting. “Nice digs.”
“Says the guy you live in a mansion across Tokyo Bay.” Mireya took off the spare helmet and ran her hand through her hair.
Ken chuckled and raised his hands in surrender. He did own a house overlooking Tokyo Bay, appreciating its tranquillity. It was preferable to his residence in LA. He glanced towards Mireya's house and whistled. “Your house has style. I like it.”
Mireya chuckled softly and crossed her arms before sighing softly, looking up at her house with a soft smile. “Yeah, it is nice.”
Ken smiled and strummed his fingers on his helmet. He rubbed his neck. “So, uh, yeah, great work. For the photoshoot, I mean. Guess, I’ll see you again?”
“And have your face be the first thing I would ever see? How lovely.” Mireya said sarcastically before walking inside her house.
Ken chuckled with a grin on his face. “Baby girl, you do love to destroy my ego, don’t you?”
He saw her turning around with her hand on her hip. Ken smirked at her and leaned forward on his motorcycle. He enjoyed riling her up like this. This type of banter reminded him of their childhood and he missed her. He missed being with her and wanted to rekindle their friendship.
“What I do enjoy is not seeing your face all the time and not having you flirt with me.” Mireya mirrored his smirk.
Ken chuckled and shook his head. He relished the banter they shared and admired her newfound sassiness. Once a timid girl, she had blossomed into a bold and self-assured woman. He was also proud that she had come so far in pursuing her dreams. He knew she was a talented woman. “Well, I’m looking forward to seeing you again, Reya.”

It's Ultraman Day!
Y'know, I first heard about Ultraman through the Godzilla fandom, and honestly, I kinda slept on it until very recently. Ended up getting into it when I heard about the upcoming release of Rising and found out that a decent chunk of content is accessible on YouTube. Okay, gotta admit those "Ultraman Without Context" videos were also a huge thing that sold me on the series, as a thorough enjoyer of Wacky Shit.
So, for Ultraman Day I'm gonna start briefly yapping about the Ultraman Stuff I've seen so far. It's almost entirely the newer stuff, but I might check out some of the older shows.
Let's start with the first series I checked out, Ultraman Blazar (as it was the most recent at the time).
Note there will be some spoilers here and there.
Blazar
-The series I started with, and it's pretty different to typical Ultraman faire. Has this...Not really darkness but I guess kind of a grounded sort of...moodiness? Dunno if that's the right word. The whole V99 Conspiracy plot gave it a distinct flavour that I haven't seen so far in the other shows.
-The fight scenes are pretty fire, as Blazar himself is an incredibly fun character to watch. The whole "feral" shtick took me a bit off guard at first, but it makes him really unique. The spear/javelin main weapon that transforms into different things is such a ccool concept for a "base" power.
-The dynamic that Captain Gento has with Blazar where the latter occasionally takes control is really neat, even when he's just doing it to observe. Gives the Funny Caveman an interesting bit of depth.
-I quite like SKaRD as an attack team, even if they never really score a single W for the entire series. Emi in particular is one of the best Human characters I've seen so far, probably since she essentially gets a whole side plot attached to her (The after mentioned conspiracy and wanting to find out what happened to her dad.
-I honestly did not expect to end up liking Earth Garon in particular as much as I did, even if he just gets his ass kicked constantly. I think the scene that truly sold me on him was in the episode where he's given his AI, therefore a real voice and personality. The scene where Emi is freaking out after being hit with the Monster of the Week's Fear Ray and Earthy tries to calm her down. Did not think he'd be chill like that honestly it was a pleasant suprise.
-One of the big highlights of the show was definitely the monsters (which I thing all of them bar Red King, Guigass and Demaaga are new?). Pretty much all of them have creative and memorable designs. I will go Blazar levels of feral if they ever reuse Dorgo, Nigikagachi, Molgusion, Deltandos or Zangill (If he counts) again.
-Speaking of Zangill, his episode is probably my favourite on its premise alone: Guy shows up to ask for assistance with collecting the wandering souls of all the Monsters of The Week that the heroes had slain. Including one who's Real Fuckin' Mad and tries to get revenge. It's so freaking cool. Makes you wonder about literally every other MotW show actually...
-At first I found Big Bad a bit anti-climatic. I think I walked into my first Ultraman series expecting some big badass final boss with an EEEEEEvil Alien Overlord or something. But instead, the main villain of Blazar is basically just Some Old Guy (who is fiercely determined to cover his crimes, fatal consequences be damned).
Honestly, from the other shows, he's currently tied with Rising's Dr. Onda for the best Ultraman Big Bad. I've been a little disappointed with the others I've seen so far, which I think I'll explain further when we get to them.
-Last thing, the opening song makes me feel like that Spongebob Ascending Meme. It's awesome (I especially like how they show the monsters, starting with a newspaper then going to TV camera footage and satellite images.)
Overall 8.5 WHOOOYS! out 10
Next time I'll probably yap about either Z or Decker (or maybe Rising?) when I get around to/ remember to do it.
#ultraman#ultra series#ultraman day#ultraman blazar#The one thing that would have given it a 9 was if Skard actually did manage to win just once without Blazar's help.#Although I feel like there was a deliberate choice on the writer's part to nerf them compared to other attack teams#Tldr: Space Caveman and Knockoff MechaGodzilla fight monsters while Girlboss Spy exposes Racist Old Dude.

Tag 9 people you want to get to know better!
Thanks for the tag bbys @choccy-milky @the-ozzie @keri-mcberry @ethniee 🩵
LAST SONG? - oh no, you’ve opened the Pandora box. When given the chance I usually couldn’t shut up about music and when asked questions like these I can never just say only one… Mostly for the purpose of finding kindred spirits 😶 Nowadays I often listen to RnB, Soul, Hiphop, 70s-80s hits, Jazz fusion, Jpop and Rap… but I do listen to a wide range of stuff, from Jazz and Classical to Rock/Punk and Metal (loove Paramore and BMTH), to Kpop (I’m an ARMY btw) and Anime songs lmao.
But I digress. The last 3 songs (yes even now I still can’t choose just one 😔) I listened to were:
Suuper sick 1976 Japanese funk track the I discovered, I dove into Minako Yoshida’s stuff and she’s suuper cool.
There’s this lovely playlist on spotify called “sade, erykah badu, lauryn hill vibes 🧚♀️✨” by someone called izzy eve and as a lover of all 3 i’m living for it 😫🩵
FAVORITE COLOR? - if it’s not obvious already, it’s light blue, could be baby blue, robin egg blue, or serenity blue 🩵 though most irl people would guess black, seeing 98% of the time I wear always wear black…
CURRENTLY WATCHING? - I mostly watch YouTube nowadays but yesterday I marathoned “Madougushi Dahlia wa Utsumukanai” (or Dahlia in Bloom in English). I’m a big fan of the red-haired, strong-heroine-anime trifecta (Red-haired Snow White, Akatsuki no Yona, and The Ancient Magus Bride), so I assume I’ll love Dahlia in Bloom and I was right. I’m just a huge sucker for heroes/heroines who are both passionate and skilled in their craft/hobbies, add with a little dash of obsession in the topic that they excelled in.
SWEET/SPICY/ SAVORY? - SAVORY. Same as you guys @choccy-milky and @the-ozzie , I’m an absolute sodium menace. Bags of chips and instant noodles (particularly Shin Ramyun, or Indomie) are my kryptonites…. I’ve been eating healthier these past few months though. I set a rule for myself to put in veggies and fruits and good proteins first before I’m allowed to eat whatever I want. But yeah, even tho I do love spicy and sweet as well, I’m addicted to salt 💀
LAST MOVIE? - Wow I don’t remember which one was the last one, it was either Ultraman: Rising or Women King (I know I’m late but God, Viola Davis was magnificent in that one).
RELATIONSHIP STATUS? - I leave it to you guys to guess lol
CURRENT OBSESSION? - Well, Hogwarts Legacy is a given, but besides that, a resurfacing obsession is The Umbrella Academy… 👉🏻👈🏻It’s my comfort show, comfort characters, comfort cast! Just got back into it again since it has ended. And with how season 4 being so…. lackluster(I wouldn’t call it total garbage like most brellies bcs there are things I enjoyed but I agree that it’s a mess and I hate that they ‘ruined’ many of the characters.), I started rewatching my fav scenes from previous seasons and started seeking for fics in Ao3 (my first time ever hunting for TUA fics even tho I started watched TUA the year S1 came out). Fic author brellies are such a blessing, I’ve read fics that are so much better than the experience of watching season 4, with all the emotional complexities they’re able to write and their creativity… just chef’s kiss.
LAST THING YOU GOOGLED? - Cyrillic alphabets lmao. I learned how to read them back during the pandemic out of boredom and curiosity… Yesterday I came across a Russian sentence on my friend’s laptop sticker and I forgot how to read “ю” and “л” so I googled it 😂
Non-obligatory tag, you don’t have to do it! ☺️ also idk who amongst you has done it already, sorry if you have 🥲 I’m just tagging HL people I genuinely want to get to know. @diana-bluewolf @rednite-dork @tamayula-hl @sallowly @sparxyv @ccelicaa @hummingmuggle @gogglesyoyinyin @applinsandoranges @alun1r @gce-hiiragimare @morelikeravenbore @vienguinn @alliezarin

Rise of Ultraman #1 *spoilers*
So being an Ultra Series fan since childhood, especially the original 1966 Ultraman and recently a fan of Ultra Q which is the first in the Ultra Series, I quickly got my hands on the first copy of Marvel’s Rise of Ultraman.
Okay, this is from my point of view and I know very well that different people have different taste and expectations but I guess I set mine a little too high. First of all, let’s go through the main characters that we see in this issue.
Shin Hayata (Ultraman)
Apparently Hayata hasn’t join the Science Patrol yet at this point for failing the test and unlike the original Hayata where he’s more of a calm demeanor, this one’s a bit cocky akin to that of Top Gun’s Maverick which tends to agitate Captain Muramatsu, among other reasons which are not yet explained.
Captain Toshio Muramatsu
Probably the most “chill” Captain of the Ultra Series that I’ve watched as he’s more a scientist than a military officer, as the Science Patrol was more of a research team to investigate and learn more about the extra-terrestrials but in this issue, I guess they’re more militaristic so he’s a bit on the edge and uptight, in a sense that he’s extremely particular about protocols and stuffs.
Akiko Fuji
The cute, lively and bubbly girl of the Science Patrol which probably caused a lot of Ultra fan boys to have a crush on her. Unlike Hayata and Muramatsu whose personalities are different now, hers is more or less the same but more serious.
Dan Moroboshi (Ultra Seven)
He appeared briefly so I can’t tell much about his personality differences with the original one but at least his uniform is exactly the same as the original, unlike the Science Patrol, which is a bit disappointing but I guess darker color is more realistic than the orange, kind of like Wolverine’s yellow spandex I guess.
But anyway, what I’m confused about this guy is that unlike Hayata, Muramatsu and Fuji which characters are brought forward to 2020, Moroboshi is still in 1966 and what’s confusing is that although he wears the unmistakable uniform of the Ultra Guard, he pilots the Science Patrol’s Jet VTOL.
What does an Ultra Guard member doing piloting a Science Patrol jet? If the Science Patrol existed in 1966, shouldn’t Hayata, Fuji and Muramatsu existed in that timeline as well? But if they’re here in 2020 then who were the original Science Patrol members? Dan later crashed his jet and encounters Ultraman. But isn’t Dan supposed to be Ultra Seven? I don’t know what’s happening but I’m definitely curious to find out in the following issues.
As an Ultra fan, I feel that it kind of uses the names of the original characters but lack the soul and spirit of said characters. Since it’s Marvel so naturally the dialogues, characters and stories feels more American than Japanese. So it feels like I’m reading an Ultraman Powered comic than the Original Ultraman. That being said, I wonder why Marvel didn’t do an Ultraman Powered comic instead? I love that American version as well, it’s unique and awesome in its own way and has tons of potential to be the next Pacific Rim.
Seems that Boom Studios is the only one that is able to capture the essence of the original Power Rangers into the modern world of today than Marvel does for Ultraman. A reason Power Rangers is successful I think it’s because the comic is based on the American version of Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger instead of Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger itself. So if they were to make a Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger remake with an American context I think the result would be what you see here in Rise of Ultraman.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not terrible but it’s just a matter of expectations. Perhaps for non-Ultra fans, it might be awesome to see a new kind of superhero which they have never seen before in the west. But I guess, it’s still early to tell since it’s only the first issue. I will still look forward to the following issues with great interest to see where the story is going.

Something that is worth raising about Ultraman Z - Delta Rise Claw
Hey guys. There is something I woud like to raise about Ultraman Z - Delta Rise Claw.... well, a few things actually.
1. Have you ever wonder if Delta Rise Claw really has five sluggers (One Z-Slugger and four Beyond Sluggers) instead of three like Alpha Edge?
2. Have you ever wonder if Delta Rise Claw has Zero Beyond's form in terms of its crystals and its Ginga Protectors?
3. Have you ever wonder if Delta Rise Claw inherited anything from Geed Primitive and Belial Atrocious?
4. Why does Delta Rise Claw have blue aspects on his upper and lower torso?
If you all say no, you're not sure or both, allow me to be your Professor on that topic today.
Question 1: Have you ever wonder if Delta Rise Claw really has five sluggers (One Z-Slugger and four Beyond Sluggers) instead of three like Alpha Edge?
Firstly, if you all think that Delta Rise Claw only has three sluggers (One Z-Slugger and two Beyond Sluggers) like Alpha Edge, well that's false. Because if you were to look at Alpha Edge's sides, well it's true that he has only three sluggers due to the fact that Alpha Edge's ears are at the sides.
However for Delta Rise Claw, he has the same three slugger gimmick on his head as Alpha Edge, but the only difference is that he actually has five sluggers on his head. Want to know where are the other two beyond sluggers are located? Well, it's simple, so allow me to open all of your eyes for ya. Since Delta Rise Claw is a fusion with so many traits and this form inherited a lot of details from Zero Beyond, Geed and Belial Atrocious, TsuPro decided that to make two Beyond Sluggers necessarily configured on top of Delta Rise Claw's head like Alpha Edge and have two other beyond sluggers to be the redundancies and use them as ear-like decoration-like details shown at both sides of the form's head, which you already now know that Delta Rise Claw's head sculp looks as similar as Zero Beyond's head sculp with Alpha Edge's head sculp in the mix of things.
You may see the three images shown above. It's really quite obvious when Alpha Edge, Zero Beyond and Delta Rise Claw are at their side views shown above.
Question 2: Have you ever wonder if Delta Rise Claw has Zero Beyond's form in terms of its crystals and its Ginga Protectors?
Well, if you have seen it already, yes. You are coreect to know that Delta Rise Claw has beyond crystals embedded on his arms and legs, including three beam lamps coloured blue and green on his head.
However, you missed some details out on Delta Rise Claw which can be seen if you were to compare it with Zero Beyond. Like for instance, the gold protectors on Delta Rise Claw's chest are based on Zero Beyond's protectors and some Gold Aspects are actually Zero Beyond's purple aspect-ike details. Now, you may be wondering why there aren't Beyind Crystals on Delta Rise Claw's golden protectors, right? Well, to answer your question, as much as I like Delta Rise Claw form so much, TsuPro made extremely too fine details on his torso, till they forgot that there were beyond crystals at its chest protectors. And thus, leading us to the result that we have today. Which I still love it in terms of the fine detail it has.
And if anyone of you are asking if Delta Rise Claw's shoulder armour take after Zero Beyond's shoulder armour, well yes as a matter of fact with a bit of Geed and Atrocious vibes combined to it to make its shoulder armour stand out well with the red and gold vibes on them, which will be explained in a while at the third question.
Question 3: Have you ever wonder if Delta Rise Claw inherited anything from Geed Primitive and Belial Atrocious?
Well, as stated in the previous post before, the red details/aspects and red armour pieces on Delta Rise Claw's shoulder armour pieces, protector (chest) and arms are from Geed Primitive in case you didn't know. For those who don't know, you may look at the pictures above and compare. And yes, Delta Rise Claw inherited something else from Geed Primitive as well. If you are observant if you watch Episode 15 closely, you see Delta Rise Claw fighting like Geed after plowing Greeza through a building, which is something Belial Atrocious would do but, oh well. So, we can say that Delta Rise Claw has inherited some detail aspects and fighting style from Geed Primitive.
For Belial Atrocious, it's very obvious. If you were to compare Delta Rise Claw's body and Belial Atrocious's body (Excluding the beyond crystals on Delta Rise Claw's arms and legs), you can already tell that Delta Rise Claw's body is based on Belail Atrocious's body with Zero Beyond and Geed Primitive's body detail aspects to be in a mix of these aspects shown above, which explains why Delta Rise Claw's shoulder armour is so smooth and armour-like instead of it being edgy like Zero Beyond's shoulder armour.
Since Belial Atrocious's fighting style is as similar as Geed's fighting style, we can say that Delta Rise Claw has also inherited Belial Atrocious's fighting style and his brute strength with or without the aide of the STURM Organs.
And in case you ask if Belial Atrocious's forearm and lower leg armour piecesare included onto Delta Rise Claw, well yes. You can say it is fused with Zero Beyond's forearm and lower leg armour pieces which hold the beyond crystals embedded into them which leads to Delta Rise Claw's forearm, lower leg armour pieces and his Beyond Crystals today on his epic debut on Episode 15, last week.
Question 4: Why does Delta Rise Claw have blue aspects on his upper and lower torso?
Well, honestly I do not know. But if I were to take a few guesses, his blue aspects are basically from Ultraman Zero's Luna Miracle form with Belial Atrocious's armour aspects on it to be in a mix, Ultraman Geed - Acro Smasher and, I guess these are the two guesses that I can come up with for now, folks, which explains why Delta Rise Claw is as super fast as Super Sonic. In my opinion, it would have been better of with purple like Zero Beyond instead of blue, but I guess TsuPro didn't want him to be so "girly", so I guess the blue detailing aspects would oughta most certainly do.
So, yeah. I guess that's pretty much it. And that's how we know that Ultraman Z - Delta Rise Claw has five sluggers; One Z Slugger, two usable Beyond Sluggers and two redundant Beyond Sluggers which are now in a form of Ultra-Ears on Delta Rise Claw, this form has Zero Beyond Protectors excluding Beyond Crystals on them and he has shoulder armour with the mix of Zero Beyond, Geed Primitive and Belial Atrocious shoulder armours/protectors, Delta Rise Claw has inherited something from Geed Primitive and Belial Atrocious, and why Delta Rise Claw has blue aspects on his upper and lower torso.
Oh my. Delta Rise Claw sure has a lot of things hidden within and on him when it comes to Zero Beyond, Geed Primitive and Belial Atrocious. But of course, if you all have any questions about this, don't hesitate to ask me questions. Or if you are in doubt, same. Just ask. I'll will answer your questions, anytime, anyday, anyweek, anymonth and any-year. Just as long as you ask, you'll be answered.
Welp, that's all for this review. So, see you all real soon and, see you all in the next Episode review and when the updates for Ultraman Z comes in.

Mayu Igaguri found the memories of the Ultramen who fought when she was a child was hazy, the idea that one of them were her dad becoming more and more ridiculous as she got older. The appearances of Ultraman Geed were few and far between the past few years, the other one hadn’t been seen since the incident in Okinawa. Everyone knew of the hero who fought monsters, but the monster just hadn’t been showing up.
It was after school on a Saturday afternoon, Mayu was walking through the mall, her friend Noa at her side as they window shopped. They chatted about school and about their classmates, before something in one of the windows caught Noa’s attention. She rushed over letting out a squeal of excitement, fawning over what she’d saw. Mayu walked over adjusting her glasses as she listened to Noa babbled about how adorable it was. It, being a little plushy of what appeared to be Ultraman Geed.
“Oh! Mayu, look how cute he is!” Noa cooed, pointing her finger on the glass to where the doll sat on the other side.
Mayu smiled, amused by Noa’s giddiness at the doll, “I guess it is,”
“You guess?” Noa gasped, using all her theatrics. Mayu knew that she was just being over dramatic, especially since Noa looked less offended and held a grin upon her face.
“I can see why you’d call it cute,”
“That’s ‘cause it is!” The two soon devolved into laughter. It was times like these that Mayu was glad for her and Noa’s friendship. They could laugh over the simplest things, like this silly little doll in the window of a store. Though they were laughing easily, it soon faded as the whole mall shook, like an earthquake. Around them, everyone devolved into panic and one word was being shouted over and over, the only thing the two could make out.
“Kaiju!” People here and there yelled.
“Kaiju?” Mayu asked, looking to Noa.
“It.. it can’t be a Kaiju, right?” Noa looked around in panic, “There’s barely been any Kaijus in years!”
Then, not far from where they attempted to run, the ceiling fell showing the legs of what was clearly a monster, some kind of dinosaur like thing. There were also more human like legs, blue with bits of silver, and Mayu swore she could see just the slightest bit of red. The two fought and somewhere, deep within Mayu, she felt a strong sense of deja vu, like she’d seen the giant fighting the monster before.
A scream pulled her attention from the fighting giants, pulling over to a bit of rubble and Noa, who was under and beam. “I’m stuck!” Mayu ran over attempting to lift up the beam. It barely budged, proving far too heavy for her.
“Run!” Noa yelled, “Just go! You’re not going to be able to get me free!”
“No!” Mayu shot back, “You could die if I leave you.”
“We could both die if you stay here!”
Then a flash of light, Noa screamed her name, and pain. So much pain. She felt herself fly to the ground, hard, but the pain on-in-throughout her chest was so much more distracting. It felt like she was floating, in a way. A darkness that threatened to consume her. Then all the noise from the fight faded more and more. Quiet. It was quiet, like when her mother was reading or her dad was in thought… Quiet, like when the burning energy inside her as a child left, aiding the giant of light. It was quiet and dark, and Mayu hated it. It was… wrong.
She heard a hum of sorts, like a voice that she just couldn’t quite understand. It sounded… vaguely familiar. Growing from the sound was a light, what started as a flicker grew, until it was nearly so bright she couldn’t stand it. Then the pain was gone and Mayu opened her eyes, sitting up, bringing a hand up to her chest.
“Mayu?” Noa sounded relieved, horrified, and astounded all at once, though Mayu was so confused she didn’t pay Noa much mind.
“…What happened…?”
“Ah, good, you’re okay,” It was the voice, the hum from before. In that moment, Mayu knew she’d heard it somewhere before, the presence created by the voice being a degree of comforting. Now where had she heard it…?
A name came to Mayu before she could even think about what she was saying, “Zero?” A hazy memory of her and her parents, her father’s arm in a sling, as the three of them waved goodbye to a blue, silver, and red giant. The giant had been working with her dad. They fought monsters, alongside Ultraman Geed.
“Come back and play again!” She had called out to the giant.
“Wait, you mean like the Ultraman?” Noa asked, sounding confused herself. She thought for a moment, before continuing, “That giant did look like the one that fought with Ultraman Geed…”
“Ah,” The voice, Zero, said, “You know of me.”
Mayu thought, for moment, recalling what her father had said all those years ago about his first meeting with the Ultra. Then she spoke, “You saved me,”
“Yes, well, I admired how you tried to help your friend, even though it put you in danger. Since I can’t exactly stick around too long on my own, it worked out.”
“You saved my father too.”
“Mayu, who are you talking to?” Noa called, concern in her voice.
There was silence from Zero, as he processed what Mayu had said. “Wait, you’re Leito’s daughter? You’re Mayu Igaguri?”
“Yes,” Mayu breathed, all the pieces she’d dismissed as she grew returning. “I am.”
There was silence, until Noa spoke, her voice wavering, “Mayu, you’re scaring me. Are you okay?”
“I… yeah,” Mayu said, “Let’s get you out of there.”
“You can try, but I don’t think you’ll have much better luck now than you did before.”
Mayu knew Noa was right, but she also knew that she had to try. So, with a huff she walks over to the beam giving a grunt as she tried to lift it. To both Mayu and Noa’s surprise, the beam lifted with a strange ease. Mayu, though shocked was care not to drop it until it was off of Noa.
“Mayu…” Noa said quietly, “How did you lift the beam? Did it have something to do with that Ultraman? After he beat the monster he became light and flew to you.”
There was a strange shift, as Mayu felt her hand moving not of her will. It pulled her glasses off and Zero spoke through her. “It’s due to my power that Mayu was able to lift the beam, yes,”
Noa’s face became shocked, “Wait-wait. What’s going on here?”
And so Zero explained, some of it reminding her of what she’d heard from her dad. She wasn’t sure how she felt about having to be Zero’s host, but she supposed it was better than her dad, who probably didn’t need more stress right now. Still…
“So why are you here, exactly?” Noa asked, speaking for Mayu, probably without even realizing it. “I mean, what brought you to Earth here and now?”
“Ah, right…” Zero said, “I came here because I was following an alien that had been summoning monsters to attack planets. The monster that showed up today was sent by that alien.”
In a panic, Mayu takes over, shoving her glasses back on her face, “Wait, hold up! You’re going to stick around? With me?”
“Well, yes…” Zero said, his tone the slightest bit sheepish. “I usually get hurt in fights and since I can’t remain on this planet without a host for more than three minutes… I’ll need a host so I don’t have to constantly fly off the planet and try to recover on my own.”
Normally, Mayu liked to pride herself on her ability to stay calm even when her heart was racing. Yet this was one of the times where she just couldn’t. She didn’t know anything about all this! The most confrontation she’d ever had was with some stupid bullies from her school, and all that led to was a few verbal spats. Her thoughts halted to a stop and she found herself only able to utter one word, “…What…?”
Noa seemed to realize there was another conversation going, so she sat down on some of the rubble, watching Mayu idly. Soon Zero responded to Mayu’s shock, saying, “I understand that this is a lot, but it’ll only be for a bit. Once we find that alien and deal with them, I’ll head off. I’m sure you’ll do great, after all, your dad barely knew how to deal with most conflict, so you can’t be any worse.” Were she a little less shocked, Mayu might have been offended by that last part.
“Okay… I don’t think there are really a lot of options here…”
“Exactly,” How reassuring of him.
“You’re really going to make me regret this.”
“So, what’s the plan?” Noa asked, hopping from the rubble she was sitting on. Mayu could tell that Zero was thinking before she felt him take control, once again pulling her glasses off.
“For now, go home and rest. I can’t rise again right now anyway. Tomorrow, we find Riku and tell him what’s going on, see if we can help. Then we begin our search for the alien behind all this.” Zero allowed Mayu to return to control as they left what remained of the mall. Noa, thankfully, wasn’t hurt, despite the rubble and the beam. Mayu took out her phone, noticing all the missed messages. Her mom, her dad, a few of her friends who knew she’d been at the mall.
“Ah, I guess I should call mom…”
Noa looked to her, “Oh, yeah, you’re right. Our parents are probably worried.”
Mayu dialed her mom’s cell phone, listening as the number ringed and ringed. Then her mom answer, “Mayu? Oh, Mayu are you okay?”
“Uh- Yeah, I’m… fine.” Should she tell her parents about Zero? She knew that her mom had known when her dad was hosting Zero, at some point. “A-okay. I’m on my way home.”
“That’s a relief. Stay safe, I’ll see you soon.”
“I love you, bye.”
Noa soon got off her phone, looking Mayu, “Are you going to tell your parents? About Zero?”
Mayu was quiet for a moment, “I… I don’t know.”
“You should. They already know me from when Leito was my host.”
“I know, I just… I don’t want them to worry.” Noa nodded, understanding, though the slight frown on her face told Mayu she didn’t exactly agree. Mayu knew that she should at least tell her dad, she knew that being Zero’s host would put her in danger. But that’s also why she knew her parents would worry. Her dad didn’t need more stress, not with how much stress he’s getting from work.
When Mayu got home, her mother wrapped her up into a big hug. There was an unspoken tension that melted away in that moment. Mayu was safe and that was all that matter.
“What happened?” Her mother asked, “The news said a Kaiju…”
“There was a Kaiju,” Mayu confirmed, “And a blue, silver, and red giant who fought it – like the one from before. But it’s okay, Noa and I got out and neither of us were hurt.” The two had already agreed on a story. Though Mayu felt a bit guilty about lying to her mom…
“That’s a relief,” Her mom said, combing her fingers through Mayu’s hair, which had become a bit of a mess. “You go clean up, now.”
“Yes mom,” Mayu smiled in response, though it fell slightly after she turned to leave. She heard her mother mumble something about Zero, though she couldn’t make much more out.
“Should you really have lied to her?” Zero asked when Mayu had made it to her room.
“Mom and dad don’t need to worry. Besides I didn’t lie perse…” Mayu responded, “I just omitted a few details.”
“Like you getting hurt and possibly nearly dying.” Came Zero’s dry response.
“I didn’t stay hurt, thanks to you.”
“You can’t keep it from them forever. Especially once we talk to Riku.”
“We’ll see, Zero, we’ll see.” She said, “And Riku? Do you mean the one that’s obsessed with Don-shine?”
“Yes, Riku Asakura, though you might better know him as Ultraman Geed.”
Mayu dropped the clothes she’d been holding, “Riku is Ultraman Geed?”
