Perfection can be found in simplicity, agree? A single storey townhouse adorned with a niche of the Holy Family in St. Mark Street, Gudja, #Malta. BIL-MALTI Taqbel li l-perfezzjoni tinsab fis-sempliċità? Niċċa tas-Sagra Familja fi Triq San Mark, il-Gudja. THE STREET SHRINE IF THE SAGRA FAMILJA This privately-owned shrine portraying the Holy Family is set above the main door of a residence in St. Mark Street, Gudja. The niche has a flat console which supports two flat pilasters with two double Doric capitals joined together with a running entablature. The uppermost entablature is then crowned with two heavy cornices and a triangular pediment. On the apex of this pediment stand a small cross and a square pedestal. The statuary group is small in size. It shows the sitting figure of the Virgin Mary whilst embracing Christ and Saint Joseph standing behind them hold the wooden stem. The folds on their garments are rather rigid and un-natural. Judging from the patina of the stone, this niche seems to either have been recently restored to its former glory or possibly made new to replace an older statue. LISTED IN THE NICPMI The niche has been listed in the National Inventory of the Cultural Property of the Maltese Islands (NICPMI Inv. No. 1818; Date of Publication 27 September 2013). It was deemed to have ‘very high historical, artistic and architectural’ cultural heritage property value. (at Gudja) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpXJiIBIBIx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

December 2019 - Gudja, Malta
Christmas time is family time! The last time I flew back home for Christmas a few weeks ago, I decided to book a (much cheaper) flight with Air Malta from London Gatwick to Rome Fiumicino which included a 5-hour layover in the Maltese Archipelago. I took this chance to get out of the small international airport and take a walk in the surrounding areas before the second leg of my flight home.
The small village of Gudja, lies on a small hill a short walk from the Airport terminals. The town was very quiet (being lunchtime on a pre-Christmas Saturday) with the exception of the rumbling sound of airplanes’ engines during takeoff or landing, but I had the chance to see the lively main square being all set up for the upcoming Christmas celebrations.
In one of my strolls in the village, I came across a little cat colony living on the rubble walls along the Triq San Gorg, a narrow two-lanes street leading to the Ħas-Saptan area. I befriended this beautiful shy cat who kept looking at me from behind the stones probably waiting for me to give it some food, and I could not help but take my camera out to capture the beautiful, almost dazzling, green eyes that were staring at me.

Malta: Women, History, Books and Places by Susanna Hoe
A crater on the planet Mercury is named Maria de Dominici. Born in 1645, she was the first established Maltese woman artist. She, and other women in Maltese history, are little known about. But Malta is much more than Knights of St John and Second World War courage. This book tells their story through the waves of women who arrived in the archipelago of Malta and Gozo, starting with Sicilian farmers 7,000 years ago, and ranging through Phoenician, Roman, and Arab times, until women of European extraction, but speaking an Arabic-influenced language, established a Maltese identity.Best known of those who have made their mark are, perhaps, Mabel Strickland, newspaper proprietor, and Agatha Barbara, in 1982 first woman president of the independent Republic of Malta. But the lives of less-known women of all classes who flourished in the islands over the centuries have also been reconstructed here, from Betta Caloiro, accused of witchcraft, who died aged 89 in the Inquisitor’s prison, to the Marchesa Bettina Dorell, with her grand palazzo at Gudja. Itineraries take the reader to those places.British women, such as Emma Hamilton, Hester Stanhope, Florence Nightingale and Vera Brittain, began arriving in Malta in 1800, during and after French Revolutionary occupation; and many settled there temporarily or permanently, from governors’ wives to shopkeepers, hoteliers and teachers. As often as possible, the history of women in Malta and the places in which they had their being are told and described through the writing of women: archaeology, history, travel, memoirs and literature.

What is our location?
Hi guys, it’s me again
In this post I’m going to tell you about the location of our whereabouts and our internships, which I indicated on this map.
The residence of Nafisa, Shaniva, Rik and me is addressed in Ta' Paris, Birkirkara. Toon and Anton stay at a student house in Gudja, a municipality with about 2900 inhabitants.
Our internships take place in different businesses. Nafisa is doing her internship at the Malta National Aquarium, I think the distance between the residence and her internship company is the longest of us all. Rik does his internship at Media Today, it’s not so far from the internship company of Shaniva and me. We do our internship at Studio Moda, a company in the furniture industry.
And last but not least, the internship company of Anton and Toon. They have their internship at VLR Property Management, a company in Valletta, the capital of Malta with 5700 inhabitants. I could not find the exact location of the company so I indicated where the company is located around.

Second week blog post Malta🇲🇹
Monday I was sick and I didn’t go to my internship. I had to send my supervisor and stage Malta an email that I was sick then stage Malta told me I had to go to the doctor and the doctor told me that I had an inflammation in my stomache so I had to stay home till Thursday. The whole time I just was staying in my bed, I went showering and then eating. After that Shaniva and I went shopping in the Lidl and made some food and went back sleeping.
Tuesday Shaniva was also sick, her lip was all swollen up. There we were: both sick in bed. Shaniva went to see a doctor and I stayed home in my bed. Then I got a phone call from Shaniva, she said that she had to go to the emergency in Mater Dei hospital. She couldn’t go alone so I went with her. She picked me up with the ecabs. When we arrived at the hospital we had to register at the reception desk. We met a girl that knew our Teacher Mr. Geerts, she helped us to go where we needed to be. We needed to wait till they called Shaniva’s name. We waited there for 6 hours and they helped her only 2 times. It was already late so we went home. We quickly made some food because we were so hungry. There was a lady coming to our house from stage Malta to check up on us and she told us there is a virus in Malta that makes everybody sick. She was really nice and she took care of us and went back home.
Wednesday was a calm day, Shaniva and I were just sick in bed we made some food and we went straight back to bed.
Thursday I had to go to the health centre to see what was happening with me because I was still in pain. I had to do some test. She also told me to do some test in Belgium when I’m back there. She gave me a doctor’s certificate for Friday till Monday. I went home worrying and so I called my mom and told her everything that the doctor said. After that Shaniva and I made some food for us and ended our evening watching Netflix in bed.
Friday I was still a little bit in pain but I didn't want my last weekend to end like that so we went out with some friends from stage Malta to Gudja we had so much fun in their house and then they asked us if we would go out with them to Paceville in Saint Julian. We had some much fun we met so many people we had a great time I will never forget them.

Facing the southern tip of #Malta, this church is one that many of those flying in and out of Malta see - and they probably thank Our Lady for a journey safely completed. THE CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF LORETO IN GUDJA Il-knisja tal-Madonna ta’ Loretu fil-Gudja. Next to the runway of the Malta International Airport, on the outskirts of the village of Gudja known as ir-Raħal il-Qadim, we find a church set in the peaceful countryside. The church attests great devotion and is dedicated to the highly venerated Our Lady of Loreto. IT COULD HAVE BEEN DEMOLISHED! Astonishingly, a few decades ago this church came close to being demolished to make space for an enlargement of the airport… THE ORIGINAL CHURCH Before the church we find present today, the original one that once stood here was a Medieval church located in the midst of a lost hamlet that was known as Casal Qadi. Although the exact construction date of that church is unknown, it is thought to have been built by the church's most prominent benefactor, a member of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem and the Prior of Auvergne, Fra Imbert de Molines. Knight Fra Imbert de Morine did so as thanksgiving for his safe keeping during a Turkish battle which took place in the area during the Great Siege of 1565. Two high mounds of stones nearby are said to cover the corpses of those of the enemy who died in the encounter. Fra de Morine provide all that was necessary for the church and even bought a house close to it in which he lived. This church is thought to have been the oldest church dedicated to Our Lady of Loreto in the Maltese islands. It is now the sacristy of the church we find present today.
